Awesome workbook! Hard work and difficult things to look at in your past and in your life, but very helpful in dealing with codependency and boundary issues. I highly recommend this for those wanting to work on codependency issues.....probably best to work through with a counselor or fellow struggler.

No matter where you are in your walk in life, no matter what your relationships with others is like, you will derive value in reading this book. A few pages may be challenging, but don't stop reading. The book is a good foundation for starting, repairing or building relationships at home, at work or wherever you interact with people. It is introspective, uplifing and perfect for a quiet weekend alone.

5 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled by the children.......2003-01-08

who threw a tantrum because this book included Christian principles and therefore gave it only one star. It's very easy to read and makes VERY CLEAR points. You can not read this book and fail to understand codependency (which most of us suffer to some small degree) and the solutions. If you don't agree with a few small points, don't whine and just skip them. Excellent, excellent book.

    Book Description

“There are three rules for running a business; fortunately, we don’t know any of them.”

In 1978, Paul Newman and A. E. Hotchner decided that rather than just distribute Paul’s own salad dressing at Christmas to neighbors, they would offer it to a few local stores. Freewheeling, irreverent entrepreneurs, they conceived of their venture as a great way to poke fun at the mundane method of traditional marketing. Much to their surprise, the dressing was enthusiastically received. What had started as a lark quickly escalated into a full-fledged business, the first company to place all-natural foods in supermarkets. From salad dressing to spaghetti sauce, to popcorn and lemonade, Newman’s Own became a major player in the food business. The company’s profits were originally donated to medical research, education, and the environment, and eventually went to the creation of the eight Hole in the Wall Gang camps for children with serious illnesses.

In these pages Newman and Hotchner recount the picaresque saga of their own nonmanagement adventure. In alternating voices, playing off one another in classic “Odd Couple” style, they describe how they systematically disregarded the advice of experts and relied instead on instinct, imagination, and mostly luck. They write about how they hurdled obstacle after obstacle, share their hilarious misadventures, and reveal their offbeat solutions to conventional problems. Even their approach to charity is decidedly different: every year they give away all the company’s profits, empty the coffers, and start over again. The results of this amazing generosity are brought to life in heartwarming stories about the children at their camps.

With rare glimpses into their zany style and their compassion for those less fortunate, Newman and Hotchner have written the perfect nonmanagement book, at once playful, informative, and inspirational.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars First Half is EXCELLENT!!!!.......2007-07-14

The first half of this book is excellent!! The authors may not have intended it, but the first half offers great business advice as it details the amazing story of how Paul Newman was able to get his homemade salad dressing bottled and sold in stores. It's also very funny. Just an amazing story of taking risks, not accepting "no" for an answer and following your vision. The only reason I didn't give this little book five stars is because the second half loses steam. The first half offers all the details of how Newman and Hotchner worked to sell their idea, but once the book shifts to pasta sause and the charity works, it's more an overview but they are not as involved. It's great that they helped that many charities and established the great summer camps for children, but those stories are told factually and not with the humor and insights of the creation of the salad dressing. It's still a very good book and I learned a lot from it. I will also be glad to buy his products because they taste good and they help a lot of people.

    5 out of 5 stars Entrepreneurship 101.......2005-03-31

Everything I ever needed to know about successful entrepreneurship I learned from SHAMELESS EXPLOITATION. 1) It begins with a creative product, not in the search for a way to make money (sorry, Mr. Sinatra). 2) It begins with a product that fills a hole in a market (in this case, salad dressing made with fresh ingredients, no additives, conspicuously absent from mainstream grocery store shelves back in 1980). 3) Time-honored production and marketing methods can also be time-ragged and not right for your product. 4) Ask questions of everyone you know. 5) Put out a little venture capital and don't overreach (these guys put out $40,000 and lived within those means). 6) Don't compromise the integrity of your product, find ways to accommodate it. 7) There are other ways to publicize the product other than expensive advertising. 8) A movie star's name means nothing; it's all in the product and the hard work that goes into it (sorry, Frank). 9) You have to love and believe in your product. 10) You have to love the process of getting the product out there. 11) If you build it, they will come.

Everything I ever needed to know about pursuing the common good I learned from SHAMELESS EXPLOITATION: 1) Just do it. 2) Invite everyone to participate. 3) Miracles can happen.

Everything you ever needed to know about this book: 1) It's a fast read. 2) It's an honest read. 3) It's an insightful read. 4) It's an inspiring read. 5) The part about the charities served by Newman's own will blow your socks off. 6) The authors are highly entertaining tour guides of their adventure. 7) There are a few recipes to boot. 8) It is refreshingly free of those simplistic aphorisms that plague most business world books.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful & Inspiring--and not your average business book. .......2005-03-28

This book is a fun light read, about a foray into business by the seat of their pants. This is certainly a sucess story that flies in the face of Strategic Planning.

Newman and Hotchner had great and expensive advise from the traditional gurus of business, and for their own reasons they went the exact opposite way, and it came through in spades.

This is realy refreshing in the business world, a smalltime producer of an innovative and all natural product subverting the traditional modes of business. Years before words like "all natural" and "organic" were in regular use at grocery stores, Paul Newman, of all people, was sneaking in under the radar and getting shelfspace and loyal customers.

Not only is their product good & fun, but in another 'accidental twist' they give one hundred percent of their profits ot charities. 100%! This fact alone was enough to make me read the book, and so many redeeming qualities made it hard to put down.

The book is light and not layden with industry jargon, has a bunch of entertaining anecdotes, cartoon strips, personal letters from customers and children, and a visually pleasing layout. The two are never self congratulatory, in fact they are more apt to poke fun of themselves and be modest..a pleasant aftertaste.

The second half of the book centers around the Hole in the Wall Gang Camps the pair set up for seriously ill children. These camps not only made a huge difference in the life of these campers but set off a series of these camps around the world.

The distance of our reach is far beyond what we ever dreamed.

This book will not disappoint, is fun, and a refreshing tale of business and life on your own terms.

4 out of 5 stars A day to read and worth your time.......2004-07-12

'Shameless Exploitation' is actually two books in one - you get the tale of how the 'Newman's Own' started as a germ of an idea in Paul Newman's garage. Newman was legendary back then for commandeering the kitchen of restaurants he would frequent and whipping together his own salad dressings. He and co-founder Hotchner make light of their lack of business knowledge, but it's worth noting that much of their success is based on their innate sense of what is right, for example their unwillingness to compromise on the freshness of their product.

The latter third of the book details the duo's efforts in starting up the 'Hole in the Wall Gang' camps for sick children. The authors are passionate about this endeavour, as well they should be. It's outstanding work they're doing. Newman personally drives these projects, sometimes through the force and magnetism of his personality.

In fact, that's the thing that stands out in the book - this is no 'slap the celebrity name on the bottle' exercise. These two gentlemen are intimately involved in all aspects of the business. There's a comparison in the book to other celebrity food bits good bad - Frank Sinatra's tomato sauce venture is one example. It ran aground in less then two years, an unmitigated disaster. The difference? Sinatra simply loaned out his name and looked to scoop up the profits. By contrast, Newman and Hotchner are in this thing heart and soul. Plus, the product is superlative. That's the only way to get repeat buyers.

As of the book's printing, Newman's Own has donated over $137 million to charity. When they write Paul Newman's epitaph, that first paragraph is going to be a real stemwinder to capture the essence of the man.

5 out of 5 stars The Paul Newman Story.......2004-06-17

This is the story of Paul Newman, aka the hustler, the sting, butch cassidy, cool hand luke and superman (almost). He is an Oscar winning actor, car racing champion, philanthropist (215 million dollars and still counting), successful businessman and an alien (I heard this recently through a psst..psst network). Read the book. It will expand your horizons. Anything is possible.

No education is complete without a large slice of Greek mythology. And there's no better way of meeting that literary quota than with the D'Aulaires' book. All the great gods and goddesses of ancient Greece are depicted in this big, beautiful classic, lovingly illustrated and skillfully told. Young readers will be dazzled by mighty Zeus, lord of the universe; stirred by elegant Athena, goddess of wisdom; intimidated by powerful Hera, queen of Olympus; and chilled by moody Poseidon, ruler of the sea. These often impetuous immortals flounce and frolic, get indiscreet, and get even. From petty squabbles to heroic deeds, their actions cover the range of godly--and mortal--personalities.

The D'Aulaires' illustrations have a memorable quality: once pored over, they will never leave the minds of the viewer. Decades later, the name Gaea will still evoke the soft green picture of lovely Mother Earth, her body hills and valleys and her eyes blue lakes reflecting the stars of her husband, Uranus the sky. No child is too young to appreciate the myths that have built the foundation for much of the world's art and literature over the centuries. This introduction to mythology is a treasure. 5 out of 5 stars Stands the test of time.......2007-09-18

I checked this book out of the library so many times as a kid. Now that I have kids, I checked it out once to see if they were interested. They weren't! But a little later they started catching on, so I bought a copy and now we are wearing it out! I find the layout handy- it leads from one story to another by way of family relations. That's a great natural story telling style. I also find that it serves as a gentle way to alert soft hearted kids to the possibility of violence in this world. It raises issues about life and death and the humor in all of it. We can read or not read as it suits us, and we can discuss and digest and ask questions. The colors and pictures give pause for thought all by themselves. The stories are in better detail than any other myth book I had come across, but then I am biased here.
It's great sharing reading with kids.

    5 out of 5 stars Perfect.......2007-09-15

For my money, *D'Aulaire's Book of Greek Myths* is *the* indispensable book of childhood. Every young person should have this in their home library.

5 out of 5 stars One of two books I'll be using for Greek myths.......2007-09-14

I read four books of Greek myths to decide which one to use for my 7-year-olds. This book contains a much greater number of myths than most and the illustrations help to hold interest. The stories are detailed without being too detailed for children. I appreciated their use of language - it didn't feel dumbed down, and still retained an ancient feel. It can be used as a great read-aloud or given to a child to read on their own (I'd say 3rd grade at least). We'll be using this book along with Classic Myths to Read Aloud by William Russell.

5 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended For All Ages.......2007-09-05

I read this book when I was very young. I was probably 8 or 9 years old. It was at a time when I loved reading about anything involving Greek mythology. Hands down, this had to have been my favorite book to read about the Titans, Hera's jealousy and even Heracles to name a few topics.

The book has a very unique illustration style. It's kind of plain but fits well with the content. The writing is awesome, and each story is conveyed to the nearest truth. Most if not all the major gods are present along with their biographies.

I've read many reviews saying it's mainly for the kids, but if you love Greek mythology as much as I do, then this book is ideal for you. I'm an adult and still love this book. If you're still a young person, pick up the book and discover the magic behind Greek mythology.

3 out of 5 stars Not Free SF Reader.......2007-09-03

A reasonably gentle and good introduction to Greek mythology, with some pictures to add to the entertainment. Here you get the stories of Zeus, of Athena and Apollo, not to mention Hercules and all the other gods and goddesses and the mortals and others that they chase, fall in love with, do bad things to or any of that sort of stuff.

      5 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended!.......2001-03-17

Curt Weeden tells corporations that social investing through charitable contributions can help society, and can be good business. Then he explains why, and how. This detailed guide explains ways to get the most out of each philanthropic investment, benefiting the non-profit organization and the company's reputation, employee motivation and bottom line. Weeden provides only a few examples of companies that have engaged in corporate social investing, but the introductions by Paul Newman and Peter Lynch are more hands-on because both are active in philanthropy. The book focuses on instructions for setting up your firm's social investing system. Suggestions cover choosing a non-profit recipient, figuring tax benefits, and other nuts-and-bolts issues. The book is oriented to CEOs and top corporate managers, though we at getAbstract also recommend it to academics, stockholders and fundraisers. If you are considering social investing, this is a good guide. And if you're not, it'll explain why you should. (Note: Tax matters discussed are

4 out of 5 stars A perfect book for our phony society.......2001-02-15

Today corporate America has joined the sanctimonious trend in our society under the "giving back" theme. I imagine what a breath of fresh air it would be to hear the following candid statement from a corporate CEO or Board Chairman after refusing to kowtow to political correctness:

"We sell a quality product that our customers value. We have provided our employees with the means of supporting themselves with dignity, good wages, benefits, and a good working environment. We have worked hard to create wealth for our investors who after all are people with varying needs and means - and not all of them fantastically wealthy. We pay our share of taxes. In summary we already gave back to the community! As for giving to charity - any of our investors has the right to give in any way or amount (time or money) to any organization he or she sees fit. They don't need us to make that decision for them."

The "giving back to the community" phoniness implies that while running a business you are obviously taking from others - you are a drag on society at large and need to give back to equalize things - Karl Marx couldn't have come up with a better slogan.

      5 out of 5 stars A Must-Read for Nonprofits.......1998-11-05

Nonprofit organizations, particularly grassroots agencies, would do well to absorb the lessons in Corporate Social Investing which demystify and challenge corporate giving policies. We've found it much more enjoyable than most business texts, and we found ourselves laughing at some of Curt Weeden's analogies on more than one occasion.

5 out of 5 stars A must read for nonprofit and business leaders!.......1998-08-29

This book lays out an easy to use approach for corporations and nonprofits who work together to get the most out of corporate contribution programs.

Working in a national nonprofit heading up the communications department with our corporate members, I have seen first hand the need for a road map in uncharted territory. This book provides just that to anyone interested in the field.

This is NOT just a business book -- it is a book that every nonprofit leader should be reading. This book could really make a difference in the way businesses and nonprofits work together.

5 out of 5 stars Nice Cookbook from a Great Company that Donates to Outstanding Organizations.......2006-03-11

I love Paul Newman. He does so much for kids and other charitable organizations. It's hard to believe an actor like Paul Newman would be so active in non-profit organizations. It's also nice that he does it through offering awesome products that help your family out too.

This cookbook is an awesome example of that. They contain mostly healthy recipes that contribute to a well-balanced and nutritious meal. While this cookbook isn't for cooking with the youngest of children, it is perfect for children over 5, even up to teenagers. One of the things that I love about this book is that it has a Vegetables/Sides category that is packed with vege meals for kids, along with suggestions on what to add to make even the ickiest vegetables appealing to the most of... ahem... Discriminating palates. :) The "Ten Tips for food and Kitchen Safety" tips are great for parents who're teaching kitchen safety.

The book is filled with anecdotal stores and letters from children and other people impacted by Paul Newman's "Hole in the Wall Gang" group. Some of the stories are hilarious (my favorite was the one from the 13 year old who said she likes Paul Newman's Dressing because it doesn't give her dad "the squirts").

For charitable purposes alone, that makes this book worth the investment. But something about knowing you've bought a cookbook that helps reinforce good eating, where you can teach your kids how to cook anything from Chicken Soup and Stone Soup, Tic-Tac-Toe Quesadillas, Peace Pasta, Three-Cheese Potato Gratin, Cheddar Muffins, and other great, family friendly meals... I don't know... It just makes you feel really good. :) I don't know what's best about this book... The recipes, the fact you can make them with your family, or the charities you support by buying it. Anybody who cooks needs this book!

Or maybe I'm a little biased... There's a recipe called "Newman's Very Own Lemon Blueberry Cake" which, I swear, tastes EXACTLY like my wedding cake... ;)

5 out of 5 stars God Bless This Company!.......2001-10-13

I am a loyal user of Newman's Own and Newman's Own Organics. This is a fun cookbook. My daughter and I enjoyed making the Jack in the Beanstalk Soup. It is nice to have a cookbook including so many of the Newman products. Lemonade Chicken Wings? Very tasty and a nice variety from the spicy.

Congratualtions Mr Newman. I hope this book makes the kids a lot of money!

5 out of 5 stars The Turkey meatballs and spaghetti is really good........1999-03-09

The books recipes are fun and easy. Some of My family members will not eat beef, and the Turkey meatballs and spaghetti was an excellent sub for beef meatballs.

        Product Description

Dangerous and difficult for both mother and child, what was the birth experience like in the Middle Ages? Dependent, in part, on social class, what pastimes did children enjoy? What games did they play? With often uncomfortable and even harsh living conditions, what kind of care did children receive in the home on a daily basis? These are just a few of the questions this work addresses about the day-to-day childhood experiences during the Middle Ages. Focusing on all social classes of children, the topics are wide-ranging. Chapters cover birth and baptism; early childhood; playing; clothing; care and discipline; formal education; university education; career training for peasants, craftsmen, merchants, clergy and nobility; and coming of age. In addition, three appendices are included. Appendix I provides information on the humoral theory of medicine. Appendix II offers examples of medieval math problems. Appendix III covers a unique episode in medieval history known as "The Children s Crusade."

In "Three Views on Creation and Evolution," several Christian thinkers defend differing approaches to the integration of science and theology, particularly with regards to Genesis and God's method of creation.

Paul Nelson and John Mark Reynolds support Young-Earth Creation, which argues that the account in Genesis should be taken literally and the `days' actual twenty-four hour periods of creation six to ten thousand years ago. Robert Newman defends the Progressive Creation view, which contends that the universe and the earth are very old, and the `days' referred to in Genesis are not to be taken as literal twenty-four hour periods, but rather as unspecified periods of time. Howard Van Til defends Theistic Evolution (or, Fully-Gifted Creation), whereby God created the universe with the capability to develop life. Additionally, a host of commentators, including J.P. Moreland, Philip Johnson, and Walter Bradley, offer responses to the individual essays or to the exchange as a whole.

Unfortunately, while I view the topic as a worthwhile one, I simply felt that this book did not contain enough meat to be valuable. Most of the authors spend the time trying to show that their view is consistent with a solid Christian faith or that it is, for some theological or practical reason, preferable. However, this does not really resolve the debate. The authors should have spent more time analyzing the relevant Bible verses and, especially, discussing the scientific evidence. This book does establish that all of the views, including theistic evolution, are quite compatible with a Christian faith and worldview, but it does not really advance the issue much further. Moreover, the authors of each section are not given the chance to respond to their colleague's essays. Instead, four separate authors offer responses. However, all of these reviewers are Progressive Creation advocates, which leads to a slightly biased presentation. If you are interested in the creation/evolution debate with regards to Christian theism, then Three Views on Creation and Evolution may be of some use, but is not highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars The Gift of God's Miraculous Intervention: A Clear Exposition of Christian Perspectives on the Origin of Life.......2006-06-22

For Christians, the issues raised by the different views on creation and evolution can be challenging. Can a "young earth" be reconciled with a universe that appears to be billions of years old? Does scientific evidence point to a God who designed the universe and life in all its complexity?

Three Views on Creation and Evolution deals with these and similar concerns as it looks at three dominant schools of Christian thought. Proponents of young earth creationism, old earth creationism, and theistic evolution each present their different views, tell why the controversy is important, and describe the interplay between their understandings of science and theology. Each view is critiqued by various scholars.

Paul Nelson and John Mark Reynolds provide a clear explanation of the differences between theistic evolution, young earth, and old earth creationism. Young and old earth creationism both share a view that there are discontinuities in biology and real design in nature. Yet theistic evolution does not share this view.

Robert C. Newman then explains that his approach is to harmonize both nature and Scripture. Theistic evolution is problematic because of its common refusal to let Scripture speak to matters of origins. Young earth creationism is problematic in that it does not permit science to speak. Wiester argues that the natural record provides many challenges to evolution--such as the explosion of life during the Cambrian period.

Finally Howard J. Van Till expounds his view of a "fully gifted creation" where the universe was created to bring life into existence through natural laws. He finds claims that Scriptures provide "privileged information" to be "embarrassing" because they show little regard for the "informed judgment" of the scientific community. Phillip Johnson finds Van Till's views self-contradictory: Van Till argues that God should "withhold" no gift from creation that would require God's intervention to create, but yet Christians of all stripes believe God has intervened in history.

This volume clearly expounds the pro's and con's of various Christian perspectives on creation. While this debate is surely not going to end soon, this book will bring a greater understanding and appreciation of "other viewpoints" to all interested.

4 out of 5 stars ID vs "Fully gifted creation".......2005-09-22

While there are three views presented in this book, the great devide is between Intelligent Design (represented by both Young and Old Earth Creationism) and Van Till's "Fully gifted creation". According to Howard Van Till God created everything at the Big Bang, and since the created Universe had all it needed from the start the dead matter evolved naturally to life to plants to fish to mammals to man. Creation did not need God to intervene so man could be created, it was from the start "fully gifted". All that was needed was time.

Nelson & Reynolds (Young Earth) and Newman (Old Earth/Progressive creationism) believe that Van Till is both biblically/theologically wrong and that also science shows that everything did not evolve naturally. The differences between the YE and OE views are quite insignificant, compared to the difference between Van Till and the others. Therefore, the editors gave as much space to Van Till as the other two views together. (A view that is missing is creationism that is only based on the Bible, which I believe has been and probably still is quite common.)

Nelson and Reynolds have dissapponted some reviewers, since they don't make a very strong case against the OE view. Instead they describe their view, give some reasons why it's intellectually acceptable to still be a YE creationist, and then make the reader focus on naturalism as the enemy. Until naturalism has lost its dominance, it would "not just be foolish; it would be intellectual treason" not to unify with other critics of naturalism, even if they disagree on chronology (p.100). In my opinion Nelson and Reynolds' essay is easy to read, informative, and focuses on the important issue.

Robert Newman argument for the OE view can be summarised in his words "I prefer to interpret nature as to avoid having God give us fictitious information" (p.109). In other words, what special (the Bible) and natural (creation) revelation tell us, should form our views. This poses problems for the YE view, since starlight seems to have travelled for several million years before reaching earth. If God created it to look that way, he has given us a "fictitious history" - misleading information. Newman considers the scientific evidence against a young earth to be strong, but he has also found some "biblical hints" (e.g. the "last hour" in 1 John 2:18 has lasted for 2000 years). Van Till's "fully gifted creation" faces similar problems. Newman thinks that it can fit (more or less) with Genesis 1, but in Genesis 2 man is created directly from the dust which doesn't square with a complete evolution from first life to man. Newman also thinks that the ID movement has mounted quite a lot of scienitific evidence against natural evolution as a complete explanation. When it comes to the description of Newman's own view it is appearant that the OE is the largest "tent" to be in -from persons who believe that God created the first life which evolved from there, to people who differ from YE creationists only in their interpretation of the biblical "days", they are all under this label. Newman himself thinks that the days were literal days, but that there was time *between* this creation days. That's about the oddest interpretation in my opinion ("the second day is actually the 109982783 day, but God rested between the first and the second day - although he of course didn't rest in the same sense as on the 7th day..." or what does he mean?), although I have respect for the OE view generally.

Van Till's case is based both on theological considerations and on his philosophy of science. The theological reason for believing that God created everything at once, and then it evolved, is that God would be cheap if He withheld "gifts" from His creation that He could have given at once. Van Till does not think that the Bible does or can speak specifically on how God created, since the authors did not have our scientific concepts. "Similarly, since the biblical authors had no working concepts of genetic variability, self-organizing molecular systems, genomic phace space, or natural selection, it would strike me as wholly inappropriate to expect the biblical text to offer any unique insights in the evaluation of the various specific theories that contribute to the modern scientific concept of biotic evolution." (p.208-9) Nor can science say that God created, since sience in about finding *natural* explanations. Evidence against Darwinism would, moreover, be out of line with the view that God created everything at once - which we are supposed to believe as Christians. While Van Till's essay is rhetorically skillful, and he makes some valueble points (even if Darwinism were true, we still have a Universe created by the Almighty God), I find his arguments to be very weak. A theology that excludes what the Bible might say specifically on the subject! And a philosophy of science that has predetermined what the facts may say! Believe it if you will.

Unlike many other counterpoint books, the authors are not allowed to reply on eachothers essays in this volume. Instead, four experts (biblical studies, theology, philosophy, and science) write responses. All experts are OE creationists (though the philospher, JP Moreland, has some YE leanings too), which make the responses a bit one sided. Fortunately, no one is of the exact same brand as Newman... The book is concluded with two postscripts. One by Richard Bube, who supports Van Till's view. The other by Phil Johnson, who is in favor of (and one of the leading proponents of) Intelligent Design.

All in all, many subjects are discussed, and the book is thought provoking in many ways, but the best thing is that it gets the focus straight: The main issue is between naturalism and a biblical worldview.

        5 out of 5 stars Outstanding Resource!.......2005-07-20

Though I've been a middle school coach for the past 12 years, I still am interested in getting new ideas to get my young actors/ actresses more involved with the drama process. I also taught a 3 week long Creative Drama class this summer with 3rd-5th graders and the many sound ideas in this book gave me a wealth of activities to choose from.

Whether you're a first time Drama Coach or a long in the tooth coach like me, this book is a MUST BUY! I particularly like how the authors used "famous actor" quotes to help back up the many acting activities in this book. I love the chapter entitled "Rehearsals with Heart" because this idea of treating young actors as people with talents to share comes shining through in EACH chapter! The "Leader's Guide" (near the end of the book) lays out a 10 session "suggested" guide for the novice or the veteran drama person to follow (wonderful idea!)

In a nutshell, THIS BOOK ROCKS and I've now got even MORE ideas to use with my kids when the spring production rolls around this year!

        Well Done!

I read this book after receiving it at a conference that Lenka Peterson spoke at. In reading the book, I realized that she had put most of the information covered in an 8-hour session plus enough to fill another week of 8-hour sessions. The book truly takes actions and in-person teaching lessons and makes them readily available to anyone anywhere.

This is a magical book, full of exercises and anecdotes that teach children to celebrate what they have to offer as potential artists, but mainly as human beings. I recommend it to anyone who wants to introduce children to acting and the theater. It is joyful, rewarding, wise and a lot of fun to read. Bravo/Brava!
