Book Description
Why is my voice making such weird sounds? When will I be able to start shaving? Why do I keep getting pimples? What is a wet dream?
Your body has been behaving very strangely lately. You hardly know what to expect from one day to the next. Karen Gravelle, with some help from her two young advisors, Nick and Chava Castro, has written a down-to-earth and practical book that will help guide you through this confusing time in your life. What's Going On Down There? answers any questions you might have about puberty, from what it is and what it feels like, to what puberty is like for girls, to how to handle the sexual feelings you may be starting to experience. Robert Leighton's funny and informative cartoons ease the confusion and exasperation you might feel.
Part manual, part older brother, What's Going On Down There? will give you the facts you need to feel comfortable and confident about this new phase of your life.

Dangerous Words, Beware!.......2007-05-25
Chapter 8, titled: Is This Normal? States, "it is not unusual for a boy to watch another boy masturbate or to masturbate with a group of boys. Nor is it unusual for two boys to masturbate each other." My 13 year old son was accused of sexual assault by an 11 year old boy (a friend) after the 11 year old suggested they masturbated together, they did so on three occasions. The charge came a year later, social services and the police visited our home. Our younger son was almost removed from our home. Our 14 year old was questioned by police, charged, fingerprinted and we had to hire a lawyer. This book states that boys masturbating together or each other is not unusual. Maybe so, but it is a crime, and your child could be charged with sexual assault. Especially when the other child, out of guilt, fear, or revenge perhaps, tells his parents that he wasn't a willing participate once he realizes his "young, boyish curiosity" was a crime. BEWARE!
Very Insightful.......2007-05-15
I bought this book for my 12 year old son and he finds it to be very interesting. It has opened up discussions on things he would normally not discuss with me which has helped us have great conversations. I recommned this book for anybody with young boys going through puberty whom are normally not used to talking about what's going on with them.
For boys who want to know the facts, this book has the answers!.......2007-04-10
What's going on down there? A general question, perhaps, but one that boys between the ages of ten and fourteen ask regularly about the changes their bodies undergo during puberty. In Karen Gravelle's book, What's Going on Down There: Answers to Questions Boys Find Hard to Ask, she describes the physical and emotional changes that occur in boys (and, to a lesser extent, in girls) during puberty. In addition, Gravelle discusses sexual activity, homosexuality, AIDS, and other related topics. Gravelle had help with the book; 11- and 13-year-old brothers, Nick and Chava Castro, served as advisors, asking questions and working with Gravelle to make the book's language easy to read and to understand.
I bought this book for my older son when he was ten years old. I liked the funny and informative cartoons, and my cursory reading before giving it to him left me believing it might help him navigate the storms of puberty.
I had not read the book cover-to-cover, but I did so recently in connection with an assignment for my master's degree in library science. I am glad I did. Reading the book carefully served to confirm that I made a wise purchase five years ago, something I suspected when I noticed that my older son had handed down the book to his younger brother a few years ago.
Although the book has a few weird and wonderful moments (like stating that many women don't find childbirth to be particularly painful!), I found it to be an excellent source of practical, no-nonsense information. Some parents might be uncomfortable with the book's approach. The author includes frank discussions of orgasms, masturbation, and abortion, and the illustrator has a drawing of an orchidometer so boys can measure their testicles to see how far along they are in the puberty process. For parents who want their sons to know the facts about their bodies, though, and for boys who need to know those facts, this book is the one book on the subject I would recommend first.
so very informative.......2007-03-06
This book is packed full of useful information, easy to read, and helpful drawings. A must-read for any boy going through puberty.
Great Information!.......2007-02-08
I mailed a copy of this book to my 10 year old step son, because he was asking his father questions about the process of becoming a man. I read the book thoroughly. I believe the book is excellent. There are a few points in the book that will make a parent uncomfortable, but it is information a young boy needs to know, and deals with situations he has likely seen on television or in movies. My step son's mother did not let him read the book because she felt he did not need to be exposed to the small section on homosexuality and masturbation. I ordered a copy for him to read at our house, and he told his father he was glad to have the opportunity to read the book. He stated that the book addressed questions he would never have asked his mother, and that the book also helped him determine where his friends had given him misleading or incorrect information about what to expect during puberty. Overall, this is an excellent book, and I hope that parents won't let their fears override an otherwise excellent method of providing a young man with the information he desparately needs to know.

Book Description
The Upside Down Boy is Juan Felipe Herrera's memoir of the year his migrant family settled down so that he could go to school for the first time. Jaunito is bewildered by the new school and misses the warmth of country life. Everything he does feels upside down: He eats lunch when it's recess, he goes out to play when it's time for lunch, and his tongue feels like a rock when he speaks English. But his sensitive teacher and loving family help him find his voice through poetry, art, and music.
Customer Reviews:
Captivating and lyrical!.......2006-12-12
My seven-year old was absolutely captivated by this book. It is a heart-warming story, perfect for those who know how it feels to be a newcomer and at the same time illuminating to those who do not. The words are poetic and lyrical. The playful illustrations are strikingly beautiful, full of color, emotion, and expression. It is especially appropriate for children who have moved or are moving. However, anyone can enjoy the poetic message of love and support.
Adjusting to New Culture.......2006-08-30
In this sequel to Calling the Doves, Juanito's farm-worker parents settle down so that he can go to school. Suddenly, everything Juanito does feels upside down, but a sensitive teacher and devoted family help him make a place for himself. A 2000 Smithsonian Notable Book for Children. (summary by the Latino Recommended Reading List from the Association of American Publishers's * Publishing Latino Voices for America Task Force)
We have to teach a proper Spanish foundation.......2005-11-18
Porque este empeno en publicar libros en un espanol tan mal hablado?? porque enredar a la gente con palabras como 'troca'?? Aparte de que suena horrible y naco, es super incorrecto!
The Upside Down Boy.......2000-07-11
This multi-cultural storybook celebrates diversity through both the telling of the story and the inclusion of two languages: English and Spanish. Juanito is the son of migrant workers from Mexico. Neither of his parents had the opportunity to complete school, but realize the importance of education. When Juanito reaches school age, his parents settle down so that he may regularly attend. At first the new schedules feel strange to Juanito and he is often doing the wrong thing during designated times. However, once he adjusts, he discovers his beautiful singing voice, artistic talent, and receives high marks for a poem he wrote. He and his parents are proud of the success Juanito finds in school despite the challenge of adapting to an unfamiliar language and culture. The vibrant illustrations promote the positive feeling towords multiculturalism portrayed in this picture storybook.

Bad Boys Down Under Review.......2007-07-19
I really loved this book the only thing was that it took a really long time to get to me.
Fun, fluffy read.......2007-02-16
This consists of three stories, which work best if read in order. I liked the 1st and 3rd best, but the 2nd was ok. The couples fall in love very quickly. I would have preferred a little more time spent building up to the falling in love. The love scenes are described so gently that these would almost qualify as young adult level. The guy in the 1st story is Cam, a high school dropout surfer who has a surfboard company and other businesses making him wealthy. He has a wild, fun personality. The guy in the 2nd story is a steelworker chosen to be a model in ads for Cam's surfboard company. The guy in the 3rd story is an accountant from California, who travels to Austrailia to do tax accounting work for Cam's company.
Not as good as I'd hoped.......2006-08-28
Unless you are familiar with this author or like the less, ahem, graphic love scenes, you will be disappointed in this anthology. The stories were okay but not really that imaginative. Hard for me to get invested in the characters much.
Pretty Good Bad Boys Anthology.......2006-08-19
This book contains three stories that are best when read in order. The down-under theme is well written and provides a sexy back-drop. Warren does a pretty good job writing here and her loves scenes are -as always- very hot! The plots are a bit unrealistic and the romances are rushed, i.e. broken engagement and falling in love in a week? But I expected that with the stories being only 90 pages long each.
If your looking for some steamy stories and don't mind easily falling-in-love characters, this one's for you. It's similar to the other Bad Boy Anthologies.
3 fun, sexy stories!!.......2005-10-29
Sizzling in Sydney
Sexy, successful entrepreneur Cameron Crane wants to expand his surf business into the US market and has hired marketing whiz, Jennifer Talbot to develop a plan. Cam's plan is to seduce Jennifer when she arrives from San Francisco to gain control of their business relationship. But smart, bold, and sexy Jennifer is on to his game and doesn't fall into his bed. Cam finds her resistance irresistible and wooing Jennifer becomes his number one priority.
Cameron's Australian humor and earthy good looks are powerfully attractive. Cam just oozes charisma. His keen business sense only adds to his charm. His attraction to Jennifer is understandable, as she is clever and smart. I loved the humor and sensual love scenes. After reading this story I was eager for more!
Surfer Boy
Lise Atwater, the ad-exec in charge of Crane's new American ad campaign is a work-a-holic. Her assignment is to take Australian Steve Jackson and turn him into the spokesman for Crane surf products. Due to a series of mishaps, hard working and serious minded Steve believes Lise to be an American party girl. From his picture, Lise is sure that the gorgeous Steve is a partying surfer using modeling to pay for his surfer lifestyle. Consumed with lustful attraction, will these two find they have a lot in common, including love?
Of all the heroines in this anthology, I am most jealous of Lise. Steve is a dream come true! Gorgeous, lusty and smart, I am crazy for this hero! Together these two are hot, hot, HOT! The love scenes are intense and I adored the romance between these two.
The Great Barrier
Dumped by his fiance, Mark Forsythe is on the rebound. Arriving in Australia to re-vamp Crane's accounting division, Mark is determined to live the playboy lifestyle, a different woman every night. Imagine his surprise to find the delectable and free-spirited Bronwyn Spencer living in his temporary housing and seducing him with come-hither looks. Unable to fight his powerful attraction to Bron, Mark re-evaluates his playboy agenda. But will Mark let hurt over his broken engagement ruin his chance at love and happiness with Bron?
Poor Mark never knew what hit him! If I didn't know that Bron was exactly what he needed, I'd feel sorry for him. The lengths she goes to in order to scare off other women made me laugh out loud. Mark isn't exactly a push-over though, and I love how he protects Bron from her brother's anger. These two are perfect for each other and their love story is both sensual and humor filled.
Bad Boys Down Under is a terrific anthology. All three stories are fun, sexy and filled with romance. Each short story was well written and fully developed. Well worth the lost sleep! Having recently discovered Nancy Warren, this anthology confirms my opinion. Nancy Warren writes great romances!

It was.......GOOD...............2003-08-30
I thought the book was very good but it made me mad how Nancy likes Mick rather then Frank. Frank didn't even seem BOTHERED by the looks Nancy and Mick gave each other. The mystery was a cool one but it wasn't exciting and it was kinda slow.
It was a good book but not the best.
This is spreading like bush-fire!.......1999-10-02
This book is the coolest ! It is not only the most excellant book that I've ever read, but the most thrilling, too! Nancy Drew had to keep up with the Hardy boys in the first part, but they had quite a job trying to catch her up in the end! GREAT BOOK, CAROLYN!
suspense.......1999-08-09
I think that Danger Down under is a real mystery.Nancy and George are in Australlia trying to help a friend of Nancy's old boyfriend, Mick, When they run into the Hardy Boys! The Hardy's are looking for a poacher who has been killing rare animals.Nancy and George decide to help the Hardy's on thier case too!Together they come up with a long list of suspects. Could all the suspects be working together? Could the two cases be linked? You'll have to read the book to find out!
Good book.......1998-12-11
Nancy Drew comes to Australia to help Mick Devlin, an old flame). Then she runs into the Hardy Boys who are visiting a family friend. Frank is just a little jealous of Mick. Exciting ending. and a few other suspenseful moments.
very good story adds different things in as you go........1998-04-14
This is a very good story. I just wish Keene would follow up on people in the stories in later books. Like Mick, you never get to see him again thus far in the series.

Customer Reviews:
Wild River.......2006-02-10
There are three brothers and their names Jason, Ethan, Abraham. The three brothers' own a saw mill in Dawson. One day this man named Donner took the saw mill away from the three brothers and he wanted to the brothers' to sell the saw mill to him. So Jason was reading in the news paper about a race to Nome. The winner of the race will get 20,000 thousand dollars. Nome is located in Canada. Jason got a hold of a good friend her name is Jamie. So Jamie comes down the Yukon on a steam boat. She and Jason all that night got together and checked the canoe out to see if it was in good condition. They packed their boat all up with their stuff. Jason and Jamie took the canoe to the starting point and got in. The gun went boom! Jamie and Jason got in fist place going down the Yukon. They ran into a big cotton tree so they had to go around it. They were racing against Donner, Donner cut down a Burch tree and the trunk of the tree put a hole in their canoe. So they made a raft and went up stream and traded the raft for a Burch wood canoe. Jamie and Jason entered the ocean and got a kayak from the Eskimos. The two of them went down the ocean. They got out and ran towards the building. I'm not going to tell you what happens. If I tell you I'll ruin the end of the book.
The Race.......2005-11-22
It's about a boy named Jason and his brothers, living in Dawson City. They have their own sawmill called Hawthorn Brothers Sawmill, where they work to make a living. One day all of the brothers were at a place eating, and a guy starts to kick this dog sitting there, so Ethan, the oldest brother, tells the man not to kick the dog. They got into a pushing match, but somebody in the crowd yelled at Ethan not to fight the guy, because he was pushing a former boxer Sydney Mauler. Then somebody said they should have a boxing match, and they had one two weeks later. Ethan ended up winning and becoming famous. He stopped working at the mill and started to drink and gamble a lot. He was winning everyday, and then one day he started to lose, and everyday he lost more and more until he was broke. Then a lawyer took their mill by having Ethan sing a paper when he was drunk, so they lost their mill. Jason's old friend Jamie Dunavant comes back to Dawson City and they fall in love. Jason told her he was going to Nome for to make money to buy the mill back. Jamie then found a contest. It was a race to Nome for two people and $20,000 the prize. It would be able to buy the mill back. So can Jamie and Jason win the race and get the mill back? You'll have to read the book to find out.
The parts I liked were that there was a lot of adventure and I like adventure books. The parts I didn't like were that it was kind of a love story and there were some boring parts. I would recommend this book to people who like adventure and love stories too. It`s the sequel of Jason's Gold, so if you liked that then you'll like this
Life Threatoning Adventure .......2005-09-28
This book is about a teenage boy and girl who like each other. The boys name is Jason and the girls name is Jamie. Jason has been waiting for Jamie to come back to the north. When Jamie does finally come back to the north, they both decide to join a big race down to Nome. The winner of the race gets 20, 000 dollars. Jason needs this money to buy back his mill that he and his two brothers owned, but lost.
I liked this book because it was a suspenseful adventure. I didn't really like how it was a love story.
I can compare this book with Gary Paulsen's book; The River.
I would recommend this book to people who like suspense, adventure, and love stories.

Book Description
Down, Boy! is a tongue-in-cheek guide to breaking in a new boyfriend. It's a comprehensive manual that covers the finer points of finding a boyfriend (for example, the "rescue" from an entirely inappropriate woman); the major boyfriend groups and breeds (sporting, hound, working, terrier, toy); how to identify them and choose the one that best fits your needs and lifestyle; and guidelines for first dates and bonding with a new boyfriend. Also explored in depth are the types of training behavior (Pavlovian and Skinnerian), obendience, and activity; rewards and punishments; establishing communication, including basic commands as well as nonverbal cues; exercise, feeding, and grooming of the boyfriend; and determining when he's ready to go "off-leash," with tips for taking him out. Down, Boy! is funny, hip, and content-rich. Enhanced with quizzes, charts, FAQs, and (fictitious) advice from Elizabeth Taylor (the only woman known to have married a man from each breed), it's a lively read and even includes some solid, practical advice for starting and maintaining a romantic relationship.

not really a book for guys...but hilarious for girls.......2004-11-03
i liked this. it was funny and there were lots of true-life moments in it, especially the parts about what kind of dog he was/is.
a casualty of marketing driven publishing.......2004-09-23
This book is attractively printed eye-candy and I picked it up as a captive audience. I'd still prefer a 3 month old issue of Time in a dentist's office. Not funny, and dimly smart.
Oh boy.......2004-06-10
Ok, I'm a guy, but this was pretty funny. My friends wanted to figure out what "breed" I was, and my girlfriend says I'm a terrier. Is that good? I don't know.
Hilarious and practical!.......2004-05-28
Down, Boy is a cheeky guide to finding the perfect mate using the principles of dog training. The book is very affectionate toward men and their quirks and personalities -- and is actually practical, too (and smartly written). A very fun read, with quizzes and charts and the inspired advice of Elizabeth Taylor.

Book Description
Once there was a boy named Roddy who wanted a pup to love and care for. And once there was a pup named Jet who wanted a boy to love him and care for him. How Roddy and Jet find one another makes for an exciting story that can be read from front to back or back to front. Illustrated by Caldecott Medalist Ed Young, this heartwarming tale, which is really two books in one, is sure to be a hit with young readers-no matter which way you look at it!
"Children will be drawn to the story for its artistry and the fun of manipulating the book." (School Library Journal)

My son loves this book!.......2002-09-19
He asks me to read it to him every night!
It has 2 stories connecting in the middle: a boy looking for a puppy and the puppy looking for a boy. Great book!
Great book for a new dog owner!.......2001-01-14
Ed Young's wonderful illustrations perfectly complement Dorothea Seeber's two-part story of a boy and a new pup finding each other. I enjoyed the book as a tale for the individual new puppy owner. However, it would make a great read-aloud for a group of children K-2. The illustrations are bright and clear. The story is one where children can anticipate the turn of events. When you turn the book over and start reading again, what fun! I highly recommend this book.

Sitting Down To Eat.......2002-07-23
This book is put to good use in my Kindergarten classroom. All of the characters are adorable and the children love to hear me read the story out loud. I have created a super lesson where I have the children act out the story wearing costumes that I created resembling each animal. What a wonderful way to learn about sequencing. This offers me a great way to kick off our learning about how to use ordinal numbers.
Great for all ages!.......2001-09-20
This is a great read-aloud book, with a fun rhythm to it. I am an elementary school librarian and took this book to school to read to my first and second graders. They had a great time joining in on the "refrain" each time. I wasn't sure how it would go with my older kids, but even the fifth graders got into guessing what animal would come next. Many of my students understand very little English, but they were all enthralled by this book and joined right in. I have long been a fan of Bill Harley's storytelling, and this story coupled with Kitty Harvill's eye-catching pictures is one my favorites! I will be recommending it to fellow librarians in my school district. As a side note, this would be great to use in conjunction with Jan Brett's "The Mitten."
Open the door and stand back!.......2001-08-05
This is so well done, and it appeals to our 17 month old Grandchild who picks it up and giggles outrageously! The animals are those which any child can relate to, and the counting lesson is slipped in as an after thought. Learning couldn't be more fun.
Noah Had It Easy!.......2000-09-25
Reads a lot like "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" by John Archambault. This rythmic, rhyming, counting book involves various jungle animals, and a small boy sitting down to eat. The animals pressure the boy into inviting them into his house, one-by-one.
The text definitely does have a nice rythmic flow to it, which will keep children listening, and anticipating as the house gets more and more crowded with animals. A very, good counting book.
Amusing and entertaining.......2000-06-02
This is a terrific childrens book. Different animals keep arriving uninvited for dinner until not another one will fit in the room! My kids makes up voices for each character and the end surprise keeps them asking to hear it again and again.

Book Description
We longed for someone to say, "I love you," or, "Hey, fellas, let's go fishing or camping," or, "How about a trip to the ball game? Maybe an ice cream soda; come on guys, let's go to the movies or maybe the zoo." These are things that normal families do, but for us they were just dreams that would never come true! We were forced to stay outside in the woods down back on a daily basis. No child should ever have to endure the agonies and traumas that we did. We were starved, sexually abused, beaten, and neglected and placed in one foster home after another for sixteen years. We were constantly told that we would never amount to anything, and there came a time that we started to believe that "love" was a word that was never used nor were the words "Mom" or "Dad." No one ever told us that they loved us, but then again-IS THERE ANY LOVE DOWN BACK?

Amazing coincidence to a powerful book.......2007-09-25
Mr. O'Neil was invited to speak at our Rotary Club in Pittsfield Massachusetts. He described his difficult childhood growing up in Pittsfield in foster care. He described a particular foster home where he was starved and not allowed to enter the house except at dinner and bedtime. He and the other boys had to spend their time "down back". They would dig through the neighbor's garbage looking for something to eat. During the speech he mentioned a kind lady who would give them food and how hungry they were and how good it tasted. Mr. O'Neil overcame his early adversity and went on to a successful life as a Marine and Police Officer.
At the conclusion of the meeting, one of our members stood up and said that he grew up on the street where they lived and the lady who gave them food was his mother. She had also called the foster care system and alerted them to the terrible living conditions. It was a powerful affirmation of how a caring person can make a difference in the life of someone else.
