Cool Book!.......2007-05-18
If you love Star Wars & love nice books, this is the one for you. Lots of info & pictures. Huge book, and heavy!
Dissappointed.......2007-01-18
Very dissappointed with the product. It showed up in several pieces when I open the box. The sleeve is all torn up and falling apart. 2 bottom corners of the books is all smashed up. Not sure who's to blame - the packaging guy or the delivery man. Informed customer service about getting a replacement - unsuccesful - all I got is a freaking $10 credit on me next purchases. After this disaster, not sure if there is a next purchase.
A Great Book.......2006-01-20
A great Star Wars reference book. As others have said the amount of information is staggering. Well worth the price. And a special thanks to the special girl who bought it for me.
"Impressive.....Most impressive, but you are not Jedi yet," until you buy this book.! .......2006-01-18
A STAR WARS FANtastic book!! I'm pretty curious about things, how things work, how to do this and that, and how movies are made. If you are like me and love Star Wars, you will love this book! A little pricey, but worth it! This is a definite must have for all Star Wars fans!! It has alot of rare and exclusive photos, and information on the making of the movies. It is all together a beautiful book to be displayed, and is great for any fan who is curious about the movies!
The bible of Star Wars .......2006-01-11
Star Wars related books are legion, but the hands down best-and the champion film-tie-in book period-is the [massive (15"x10.5")] Star Wars Chronicles. Just mentioning the book's title can make diehard fanboys cream their trooper armor. Yeah, it's that good. Home costumers, model makers, artists, and prop geeks especially lust after the Chronicles for its rich mine of simply stunning and often unique OT reference photos. Next to a genuine Graflex or MPP lightsaber hilt, the Chronicles is any Star Wars fan's most prized possession.

Amazing Resource.......2007-08-31
Over 3,000 photos. Beautifully printed. The definitive (dare I say ultimate) visual reference on the Star Wars prequels. Highly recommended if you can get over the price tag.
Some Pics too small und useless! .......2006-11-29
This is a fantastic book and a Must Have for SW fans!
BUT compared to the first book this one has a problem:
Due to the sheer amount of photos some are very small and hardly visible.
In fact those small photos are pretty much useless.
Other than that this is the Bible to the SW Prequels.
Star Wars... Nothing But Star Wars.......2006-07-19
It's Star Wars! How can you not like it? Although the prequels have not been well received, this book is beautiful. It comes closest to the full archives of the Star Wars universe outside of George Lucas' head. The trilogy has always been aesthetically beautiful, one can only wish that the dialogue for the prequels could equal it.
Great for any fan of Sci-Fi.......2006-03-22
This book is well worth the price, not just for the detailed and amazing pictures, but for the vast information that is included within each section of the book. If you own the first Chronicles this one has to be in your collection!
Great and amazing Item.......2006-03-18
As a matter of fact, I must say my first real love was Star Wars Chronicles, first edition from 1995, Not only because of my likeness for the old Trilogy, but because of the data and images about characters, weapons, landscapes, behind-the-scenes images you can find in the great book.
Now I must say, I was interested in this new book just because I read the names and credentials of the authors although my interest in this new George Lucas creation is not my favorite trilogy and I could say something about it. Then I thought, "well, maybe today's young kids will love this second trilogy more than the first one, and their hearts will bit for Darth Maul even more than for Darth Vader". If someone had to write this book, there's no other choice than these huge star wars knowledgemen, these fanfiles Yodas.
Now, Star Wars Chronicles the Prequels is a "had to be written" book and it's absolutelly amazing with its more than 3000 images about the Prequels, all those characters, all those ships, all those light sabers... all those worlds.
Now, Star Wars Chronicles, TP has won a proudly place beside my old and dusty Star Wars Chronicles. Don't you doubt it: this book is your next "need to have".
And why don't I give it a 5 Star rate? I think Chronicle Books should think a bit on Spanish translation for this wideworld phenomena book. I'm absolutely sure they will reach a really important market here.

Somers' Soone Debut!.......2007-09-20
New author James Soone debuts his first novel in a seemingly new series that comes off reading like a mix of Star Wars vs Terminator.
Both genres of both film and novels here are quickly apparent in the prose. Well, that can be good...and also bad.
We felt that James Somers holds great potential, but overall after reading the first 1/3 of the novel, we got a feeling of lack of quality in terms of much-needed descriptions and characterization. Unfortunately, those came as run-of-the-mill.
On a more postive note, Somers never lets up in pure high-octane action/adventure. But after reading Best-Selling authors for many years, action/adventure is not enough. It is just a couple of important elements, yes, but cannot hold up the whole novel idea as a whole.
There was also the major problem of editing. Numerous mistakes here made this reading experience a headache at times. But James Somers CAN write. And we would look at a 2nd novel of Soone.
And hope for a more well-rounded novel.
from Wayne Thomas Batson, Author of The Door Within Trilogy and Isle of Swords.......2007-03-17
The Promising First Step in an Ultra Cool Space Epic!--that's what I'd call James Somers' Chronicles of Soone, Heir to the King. Being an author myself, I read a little differently than most people. I read like a scientist, analyzing every inch of the story: the craft, suspense technique, character development, general hook, etc. After all the analysis, I'm impressed.
Please realize this is Mr. Somers' first book. Of course it has rough edges and some editing foibles, but whose first book doesn't? If the story's cool, most readers {except perhaps, for book snobs, lol} can forgive a few errors in the written craft. Rather than technical precision, what readers should look for in a first novel are the following: an intriguing hook, sparks of creative genius, and a story worth hearing. CoSM has all of that.
An Intriguing Hook: CoSM begins with a mysterious, but utterly black betrayal...the underpinnings of centuries frought with genocide. An enemy, who while not exactly sympathetic, has motives we can understand. The hook comes when you realize the rabbit hole is A LOT deeper than you first thought. WOW, I couldn't believe how the story just seemed to balloon with each new revelation.
Sparks of Creative Genius: Somers' strength is plotting. No bog down scenes here. It just keeps amping. Wait until you meet the cyborg assasin Vale. He alone adds a rogue suspense mechanism worth the price of admission. The Vorn, the Barudii, the transdimensional rift--all very cool elements.
A Story Worth Hearing: CoSM has definite spiritual themes. There's truth in this book, but it is not preachy in any way, shape, or form. Somers somehow tells a thrilling story that simultaneously makes you think about yourself and the world in a pure light.
Order a copy of Chronicles of Soone now, and like me, look forward to the release of Rise of Lucin, CoSM2!
An action packed read with spiritual overtones.......2007-02-06
Everything an action sci-fi fan could ask for: Full of battle scenes packed with blazing swords and "ray" guns. From the opening scene I was captivated. Woven into the action are moral dilemmas and tragedy, coupled with a unique perspective on the battle between good and evil. An excellent read.
You Must Get This Book!.......2007-02-03
THE CHRONICLES OF SOONE: HEIR TO THE KING, by Rev. James Somers is a no-stop roller-coaster ride of adventure, terror, love and hate. The plot starts out pretty straight-forward, but then does an odd, but enjoyable twist. Soon the reader becomes caught up in a maze of adventure, battles, wisdom, love, hate and sorrow that is hard to find elsewhere. For his first novel this is a most remarkable story. It is in some ways simple and straight-forward, yet in others it is almost unbearably complex. As a mystery writer I like the fact that I couldn't quite get a handle on the story. I mean, I could never predict what was coming next. With the introduction of new terms, that make their way into your vocabulary as if you'd know them all your life, the clan of Barudii warriors and the races of Castaillan, Vorn and Baruk all seem to make sense. I would love to say more, but if I did I'm afraid I would start giving away pieces of the story that would take away from your uncovering them for yourself. Treat this story like a gold mine in which you have found a vein of gold. As you follow that vein and mine it just as it seems to thin out and threaten to disappear altogether it breaks open into a new and larger vein. And this Somers is able to keep up throughout this epic novel. You just know the next one is going to be just as fantastic. - David Brollier; author of THE 3RD COVENANT
(You're wondering why I didn't give it a 5? That's because of some mechanical problems with the writing that the editors failed to pick up on or imposed on his otherwise great story. Otherwise it would definitely have been a 5)
Exciting and fast paced, great story line.......2007-01-26
The action never stops in this story of futuristic war pitting races of humans with various super powers and mass produced war clones. I became wrapped up in the families involved in their struggle of survival in this centuries old war. James tells a story as only the best authors can. You will not be disappointed when you read this book.

Book Description
In
Shadow Moon and
Shadow Dawn, George Lucas, creator of Star Wars, and Chris Claremont, author of the bestselling X-Men adventures, created a new world of myth, magic, and legend unlike any before. Now they bring their epic trilogy to an unforgettable conclusion in a novel of blazing imaginative brilliance...
Elora Danan has done the unthinkable. She has slain the dragons that were the embodiment of the soul of Creation. It was a desperate act--the only way to save the dragons from the Deceiver, who would have used them to rule the Realms. Yet in Elora's possession are two last dragon eggs. To protect them, Elora spellbinds herself to her faithful companions Thorn Drumheller, the Nelwyn sorcerer and her sworn guardian, and Khory Bannefin, the long-dead woman warrior whose body is inhabited by a demon's offspring. It is a dire spell that ensures none of them will betray their cause...even at the cost of their lives. And if one of them dies, the magic of the eggs is lost forever.
Pursued through a land of shadow predators by the dreaded Black Rose, the Deceiver's commando assassins, Elora and her allies must reach the free city-state of Sandeni. There they will be reunited with old friends: the brownies Franjean and Rool, the eagles Anele and Bastian, and the young warrior-scribe Luc-Jon. But Sandeni is besieged by mighty armies fueled by the Deceiver's sorcery, warrior wizards, and engines of evil magic. With defeat all but certain, Elora must convince the Sandeni people to continue the fight. What she doesn't tell them is that the greatest enemy lies within her. For the Deceiver is her own dark twin from a potential future of unimaginable evil...an evil that lies dormant in Elora's soul. And the only way Elora can stop the future is to befriend an enemy whose insatiable appetite for destruction could destroy all of Creation. Or is that, too, part of the Deceiver's plan?
Seamlessly weaving together the many strands of this rich tapestry,
Shadow Star is guaranteed to satisfy its many fans...and leave them breathless.
Customer Reviews:
Chronicles of the Shadow War, Book 3.......2007-01-27
I found this the least satisfying of the the Trilogy. It did not hang together as a story, at least for me. I found that all the love interests between the characters had little development and/or reason. It seemed artificial although the imaginative action moments might make for a good movie-I was disappointed in the Chronicles as a whole for reading. It was unclear and fuzzy what the main principal was representing.
A Masterful Conclussion.......2004-09-09
Perhaps the best in the series, this book manages to wrap up the story that started so loosely in the first book.
It preaches patience, racial tollerance, and courage. It asks us to look at the darkest parts of ourselves and see what we might become if ONE thing in our past had occured differently. It shows us that the best way to heal ourselves, and sometimes the world, is to embrace that darkest part of ourself, to great it with understanding and love. It shows that sometimes, a story or a sond can be a mightier weaopn than a sword.
Once again, another definite read for anyone who plays D&D, especially if you play a bard. Elora is now fully formed with much of her origin told in this book.
Plenty of action, lots of magic, some philosophy, and just enough love story to keep the romantics happy, Shadow Star is a smashing conclusion to the trilogy.
A good book, but lacking.......2003-09-13
Overall the entire series is wonderful, it explains much of the why of the movie Willow.
The problem lies in the writing style, although both George Lucas and Chris Claremont are both wonderful at what they do they stumbled at some points in the novel, being overtly descriptive and having the characters jump into unexpected actions to cover the transition into the next plot point.
The books cannot stand on their own, you have to read one to understand the others.
Despite my complaints about the books, I loved reading every word. It was hard to follow at times, but it was still a wonderful series.
I wish to draw your conclusion in a new direction.......2002-05-15
I found this trilogy and sequel very enticing. I believe all three chronicles of the Shadow War were professionally written. I myself did not drag along in these books. In truth, if you drag along in any book, then you shouldn't be reading its genre. You don't just read a book looking for battles or other appealing factors to you. If you choose to start reading a book, then you should finish it. These books contained a vast amount of details that help the story along. If books did not contain such details, then the story, plot, theme, and characters would be dull as dirt. You see, books need detail to emphasize its components. It seems as if you are discouraging readers of Fantasy and or Fiction to read the Shadow War trilogy. I did not find the Shadow War trilogy hard to read or difficult and I did not become oblivious to what I just read, later discovering that they were in another area, and not knowing how they got there. No one can rightfully judge a book and discourage others not to buy it because they dislike it. Thus I believe that the authors of the commentary on the book Shadow Star and its two prequels who were odious to the trilogy should change their opinion to at least be neutral instead of offensive.
Entertaining, yes, but satisfying?.......2000-12-24
Actually this is a review of the comlpete shadow war trilogy. When I bought the first book of this series, I was caught completely off guard, since I never would have expected such a colorful and enthralling continuation of the seemingly well-rounded up story of Willow.
The chronicle starts quite simply in the first book, but just gets more and more developped thruout the series, with new twists and discoveries coming up at every corner. That makes this series so interesting and drives it on for a long time.
Yet the most compelling aspect is the detailed and lively description and application of any kind of sorcery and magecraft. The moments when Thorn Drumheller or Elora Danan delve into the mysteries of magic and nature (i.e. the rides thru the earth/fire) are first class.
Alas, as mentioned by other reviewers, the complete chronicles hold several contradictions at some points, and also key occurances are only described briefly (is it just my lack of imagination, or did I miss the moment that made Thorn+Anakerie believe that Elora 'killed' Khory) or, worse, just mentioned on a side note. And there's of course this highly unnecessary last chapter, which really doesnt give any new informations other than stating trivial blahblahblah and leaving the reader with a half-hearted cliffhanger that doesnt really encourage to go on with this tale.
Still, for most of the series the positive elements prevail and since I'm a fan of twisted, intricate plots and time jumps and detailed sorcery, it was entertaining enough to earn 4 stars.

The director of the Lucasfilm Archives says that before Return of the Jedi, it just never occurred to anyone to formally store and catalog the accumulated "stuff" associated with the Star Wars films. Stormtrooper helmets and lightsabers were crammed next to models of tauntauns and sandcrawlers in closets and cubbyholes. Only when George Lucas was surrounded by all this junk for a Jedi publicity shot did the Lucasfilm folks realize what an amazing collection they had.
That collection only grew when Lucas scored with the popular Indiana Jones trilogy, which added all manner of whips, swords, and idols to the archive. This photo-packed book chronologically surveys the collection's highlights: props, models, storyboards, backdrops, and sketches, spanning all six films. Fans of either (or both) series will be gratified by a glimpse at these oh-so-cool artifacts. Unfortunately, the text isn't quite as edifying as the pictures. Behind-the-scenes insights, such as the fact that Imperial Walkers were a late substitution for Norwegian army tanks and that Indy's shooting of the swordmaster in the market was a fatigue-induced ad lib, often take a back seat to unnecessary plot recaps and equally superfluous explanations (for example, that the Force is sort of like chi). Of course, the artifacts from the archive are the real attraction, and they don't disappoint. --Paul Hughes
Customer Reviews:
Good Films, Good Book.......2005-06-17
I love archival books like the "From Star Wars to Indiana Jones: The Best of the Lucasfilm Archives" and this is one of my favourites, it's got tons of images from all the Star Wars and Indy movies. The text is somewhat unsubstantial, however the layout and design make up for any flaws. All this and quality you can expect from the best "Making Of" guy in the buisness, Mark Cotta Vaz. This makes for perfect coffee table reading for any film buff and a great price too. A great addition to any film fan's bookshelf.
Great Collection........2002-04-29
This book offers an inside look at the huge collection of the Lucasfilm Archives. Conceptual art, models, props, puppets, masks, and various other movie making elements from the original STAR WARS and INDIANA JONES trilogies are examined and the last few pages look at three or four items from other Lucasfilm projects including WILLOW and HOWARD THE DUCK. The text is more than just element descriptions and some of the information is interesting and rather fascinating. A great book for any STAR WARS and/or INDIANA JONES fan and a must for a Lucas buff.
Why George Lucas will always eclipse the Star Trek Franchise.......2001-11-29
This book is proof positive why George Lucas and Speilberg will always be superior to the Star Trek Franchise with their brand of movies. The pictures in this one are a must have for any fan of Star Wars or Indiana Jones. The complete story boards. Not just crude renderings. The masks, the designs that didn't make it into the movie. The characters in all their films are not by formula. All the Star Wars aliens and models from Return of the Jedi are in this volume. You can see how closely the story boards match what would eventually would become the movie.
Great pictures.......2001-07-26
Fun book to peruse. I'd have liked more details about construction of props or pics of props being built. Also, more "Star Wars" than "Raiders" despite the title.
Why Didn't Someone Think of This Before!.......2000-12-07
Last year a good friend loaned me this book, with the comment, "You're gonna love this..." I picked it up on a bus ride and started to read. That night, I finally put the book down after finishing the entire thing. This book is phenomenal. I have always loved Star Wars, and the chance to look at many of the models, etc. was a treat. The prototype monsters, characters, etc. were also a plus, but my favorite section was that dealing with the models of the Imperial ships. The Indiana Jones section was also incredible, and this was another favorite of mine. Although there has been a lot of hype around Star Wars stuff, and many books have been published around the making of the movie, Indiana Jones has had less coverage, so this book was a great resource. Just goes to show what can happen if you dig around in there for a few hours!

"Lone Star Preacher".......2000-07-20
"Lone Star Preacher": Being a Chronicle of the Acts of Praxiteles Swan, M.E. Church South Sometime Captain, 5th Texas Regiment Confederate States Prov. (Currently available on Amazon.com)
This one was written by none other than Capt. John W. Thomason USMC (author of "Fix Bayonets"). The story is a compilation of a number of short stories written for the Saturday Evening Post back in the 20s and 30s. "Praxiteles Baby" (actually a thinly disguised story of Thomason's Grandfather) is a transplanted Virginian who is a Hell Fire and Brimstone Preacher in Texas at the beginning of hostilities. His wife (also a firey Southern lady) is depicted reading "Uncle Tom's Cabin" by firelight and casting the volume into the fire muttering about that "Stowe Hussy"... Praxiteles seeing that his flock will need guidance in the coming hostilities, joins up with the 5th Texas as a Chaplain to see to their spiritual needs. After the first battle, he is found in the woods with a clubbed musket dripping with some sort of gray matter and is made a Captain of the 5th Texas by a general who sees his actions. The rest of the book is an entertaining and in many ways factual story of the Southern Texans in the late War of Northern Aggression. Thomason's narrative style is much like his graphic descriptions of the Marines in Belleau Wood and is definitely worth the read. An extremely talented artist, he illustrates his own books. Examples of Thomason's WWI sketches can be found illustrating the Poem "Rifles" in the Rifle Poetry section of this site - I got permission from the Marine Corps Association to use his sketches - great stuff!
Thomason is a great historian (specializing it the Civil War) and has written very entertaining biographies on such as JEB Stuart. You can no doubt tell he is a man of Southern extraction and sympathies. I had a copy many years ago and loaned it to one of our chaplains and never got it back! Hee, hee... it's that good! I didn't know it was still in publication, but stumbled across it while surfing Amazon...
If you like stories about patriotic "Sky Pilots", this one is for you!

Book Description
Bargain Books are non-returnable.
Two decades have passed since George Lucas riveted audiences all over the world with the intergalactic epic Star Wars, the first in the celebrated trilogy that went on to become the most popular sci-fi saga of all time. Now, the Lucasfilm creative team is back with Attack of the Clones, the second movie in the prequel series. And Chronicle Books has captured the newest story in the pages of our mighty big little book. Attack of the Clones follows the story of the beautiful Senator Padme Amidala and the passionate and powerful young Jedi Anakin Skywalker, whose impulsive nature leads him astray. With enough action, romance, exotic locales, and epic battles to satisfy every Star Wars fan, this Mighty Chronicles edition faithfully captures Lucas's newest legend with 150 two-color illustrations and an adaptation of the script. Mighty Chronicles keep the Star Wars adventure alive long after the credits roll.

You Must Take This In Perspective.......2004-07-23
This book is not meant to be a complete account of the story. It is an abbreviated version meant for a quick read to get a gist of the storyline. Taking that into perspective, it is a good book to get if you are a Star Wars fan. However, if you expect a complete chronicle of the story, then you will be sorely dissapointed, like the last reviewer was. It is meant to be a collectible to be put on a shelf with the other abbreviated version of the other movies.
Halfway decent children's book.......2002-06-07
I'm not sure what I expected, but this wasn't it. The story is clear enough, but the writing style is very bland. An attempt is made at Yoda's style of speaking, but without much success. The illustrations are not quite right. There's no excitement here, either in prose or pictures.
Though it's a book for kids (my guess, ages 8-12), it seems to me the small size would put off most children.
I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone except a Star Wars completist.

"The Force is strong in this one."
Anakin Skywalker, otherwise known as Darth Vader, is arguably the central character in George Lucas's Star Wars story arc. His rise to Jedi power, descent into the temptations of the dark side of the Force, and ultimate redemption by his son Luke make for a fantastic modern myth, science fiction style.
This book and action figure set is a must-have for serious collectors--it's big and beautifully packaged in a pyramidal box. The 12" Anakin Skywalker action figure represents him as he appeared at the end of Return of the Jedi, when his spirit form stood alongside fellow departed Jedi masters Obi Wan Kenobi and Yoda. The illustrated book is a delightful tour of the part of Darth Vader's story that appeared in A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. (The information about young Anakin is gleaned from Lucas's early story concepts rather than the new movies.) An extensive catalog of Vader collectibles completes the package.

Worth Getting....Even If In the Discount Rack.......2003-06-17
First, be warned. The official Amazon Editorial has it right: the story within doesn't have much to say about the Anakin Skywalker we now know from Episodes I and II. The book, co-authored by Lucasfilm exec and author of the Star Wars Encyclopedia Stephen J. Sansweet, was published several months before The Phantom Menace's release and "the early years" of Anakin's life are based on early story concepts, not from the outlines or scripts to the sequels.
That having been said, readers will come to understand that the central figure of the six-movie Star Wars saga is really Darth Vader, and that he is really George Lucas' favorite character. The fiction and non-fiction look at this tragic hero-turned-villain is insightful and very comprehensive, especially in the chapter that chronicles Darth Vader during the time span covered by the Classic Trilogy.
Like the other books in the Masterpiece Edition series, the cover price is pretty high, but I found this edition on the discount bin at Waldenbooks. It was the only one left and the cover had a tear, but that was the box cover and not the book.
The large figure of Anakin Skywalker (as seen in Return of the Jedi but in non-ghostly form) is really beautifully rendered, although it does not have a lightsaber (the small figure -- which is NOT included -- paradoxically does).
Not a transparent rip-off, honest!.......2001-12-27
All the reviews saying this is way overpriced should think again. Just how much did all the original Star Wars toys cost when the first three films were released by George Lucas? And now they're all collector's Items and go for hundreds of DDuetschmarks in collectors auctions. So these people should stop whining and be grateful for the great things George Lucas is releasing to allow us to interact with his huge Star Wars Universe more. I think this producta llowes us much greater interactivity, as we can touch and get our hands around George Lucas's "Anakin" and watch it turn into his "Darth Vader" as we touch and read. It helps if you read the book while holding it, then the transformation is much more pronounced, until George Lucas's dreaded huge trembling "Lord Vader" can be seen and experienced first-hand. This product allows us to do this in our own homes any time we like, never before have we been allowed to see George Lucas's dark side so intimately! A great buy for any true Star Wars fan, you'll never get tired of taking George's "Anakin" out and playing with him! MYTFBWY! (May the force be with you!)
Big box with not much in it.......2000-08-13
The Book itself was very good even though I would of liked to of seen some stuff from before Anakin became Darth Vader but I guess that is being saved for the new movies. I thought that this product was DEFINATLY not worth the money you pay for it. It was very, very, very expensive for a figure and a book that had words on only half the page and not very good pictures. It's a nice collectible...but definatly not worth the money. And I agree with other reviewers...where's the lightsaber?
NO LIGHTSABER! I WANT A LIGHTSABER!.......1999-06-24
His belt has a hook for a lightsaber, and his hand is curved to hold a lightsaber, but he doesn't come with one! Since that lightsaber was the coolest one I've ever seen, I really wanted Anakin to be holding it or at least wearing the handle on his belt. But...sigh...
This is a marvelous peice but a little pricey.......1999-04-18
I think this is a good book and is cool because you get a Anakin Skywalker with it.I think everyone should have this.
