Book Description
She is one of the most recognizable women of our time. America knows Jane Fonda as an actress and an activist, a feminist and a wife, a workout guru and a role model. Now, in this extraordinary memoir, Fonda reveals that she is so much more. From her youth among Hollywood’s elite and her early film career to the challenges and triumphs of her life today, Jane Fonda reveals intimate details and universal truths that she hopes “can provide a lens through which others can see their lives and how they can live them a little differently.”
Fonda divides her “life so far” into three “acts,” writing about her childhood, first films, and marriage to Roger Vadim in Act One. At once a picture emerges: a child born to the acting legend Henry Fonda and the glamorous society princess Frances Seymour. But these early years are also marked by profound sadness: her mother’s mental illness and suicide when Jane is twelve years old, her father’s emotional distance, and her personal struggle to find her way in the world as a young woman.
By her second act, Fonda lays the foundation for her activism, even as her career takes flight. She highlights her struggle to live consciously and authentically while remaining in the public eye as she recounts her marriages to Tom Hayden and Ted Turner, and examines her controversial and defining involvement with the Vietnam War. As her film career grows, Fonda learns to incorporate her roles into a larger vision of what matters most in her life–and in the process she wins two Academy Awards, for Klute and for Coming Home.
In Fonda’s third act, she is prepared to do the work of a lifetime–to begin living consciously in a way that might inspire others who can learn from her experiences. Surprising, candid, and wonderfully written, Jane Fonda’s
My Life So Far is filled with universal insights into the personal struggles of women living full and engaged lives.

Hands down...one of the BEST EVER.......2007-08-15
This is one of the best-ever show biz (but any biz!) autobiographies I've ever read. Ms. Fonda has delivered her readers a real treat -- a thorough re-telling of her already familiar story with wit, pathos and a real desire to get to the truth and share them with her readers.
If life is a journey, she's taken a hell of a trip and it's to her credit that she pushes on and continues to fight the good fight.
She doesn't skirt around the controversy or try to shirk away her actions or culpability for any mistakes she made. She confronts it all -- head-on without fear or denial. She's to be commended for her honesty and for her uniquely American life and the truth she's pursued relentlessly all these years.
Many people are still mad about Vietnam (and but for her moment in the gun turret, wasn't she right about the whole sad affair?) but those are the same folks who think we're doing right by Iraq right now, so there's no winning that crowd over. They'll simply stay mad forever, even though she's the one who really shows her love for this country by trying to make it better and to hold its leaders accountable to the people who give them their power.
She's a remarkable human being and she can be extremely proud of this book.
I love Jane Fonda.......2007-08-11
This book is exceptional and explains in detail the life of Jane Fonda. Any fan of hers must have this book. A wonderful DVD is also included in the paperback edition.
WOW!.......2007-07-25
WOW! Sometimes, that's the only word that comes to mind when one's jaw drops.
I've watched a dozen of Jane Fonda's movies over the years (I was born in 1964) and a number of her father Henry's and brother Peter's and niece Bridget's films as well. But I never really took much interest in her beyond that - didn't know much about her personal life.
However, an interview in the L.A. Weekly recently in connection with the release of her latest film "Georgia Rule" (which I haven't yet seen) made me interested in her as a person. I then remembered that she had a autobiography out and I checked it out from the library this month and began reading it yesterday.
579 pages, with many b/w photos, most of which I had never seen before. Her developement can clearly be seen in these pictures: she went from tomboy to bombshell - talk about a late bloomer! The text is divided into three chapters/acts: a clever idea.
An important note: Fonda did not write this with someone else - she wrote it herself, which is rare these days for stars of her caliber. She is an excellent writer and very personal - it felt like she was talking to me directly. She reveals aspects and incidents in her life that few would have guessed, but she does it with grace. It is one of the most moving and fascinating autobios I have read, right up there with "Cash" by Johnny Cash, another big favorite autobio.
Her psychological insight is remarkable, her wit a joy, and her pain very real. Her story is proof that wealth and fame is no guard against misery, but unlike Paris Hilton and the likes, who are sadly famous for just being famous, the reader will care deeply about Jane Fonda.
She doesn't hate and has immense compassion and understanding for her family, for her three famous ex-husbands and even for her critics. She loves her now-grown kids and is doing much to help other kids with self-esteem issues. This book is a real eye opener - I had always viewed Jane Fonda as a strong and capable woman with no skeletons in the closet. I now know that she is indeed a strong woman - precisely because she has dealt with the skeletons and has overcome her troubles. This book is stunning and so is Jane by the way - she turns 70 on December 21. (She looks like Henry Fonda in drag, but in a good way, - the resemblance is uncanny!)
I'm on page 113 and I can't wait to get back to the rest of it. (the audio book version sounds fantastic - gotta get my little paws on that too).
Pardon my gushing, but thank you for writing this book, Jane - only you could have done the job so well. You state that you hope that by telling your story, you can help others. In that you have succeeded.
This book should be a Oprah's Bookclub pick so that it can reach even more people - especially women.
Good Read.......2007-06-09
After reading this book, I have an even stronger regard for Jane Fonda. I love that she has constantly evolved through her life and how she takes responsibility for her choices. I bet I would like her very much if I ever truly knew her.
The only thing about the book is that I wish there had been more in-depth information on the making of her films. She glosses over most of her films, and that was disappointing. But still very much a worthwhile read.
Jane Fonda's life is an open book.......2007-05-11
I always liked Jane Fonda, but after reading her autobiography, I now have a deep and sincere appreciation for her and her body of work, including her activism. I loved the brutal honesty she infused in the book. My Life So Far allowed the reader into some of the deepest corners of her life, which resulted in Jane allowing herself to heal. An added benefit was that the reader had the chance to learn some valuable lessons from Jane's experiences. Her life is a lesson for girls and women dealing with parental issues, sexual issues, relationship issues, career issues, motherhood issues, aging issues and more. Jane was able to capture her life so far in such an unapologetic and matter-of-fact manner that she became human and much less iconic. Great read. I highly recommend it.

All The Days of The Life of Alison Sweeney.......2007-09-05
As I have been a viewer for Days of our Lives since it started airing on television, I have watched Ali grow up and wanted to read about her own life and the struggles which she faces in her real life. The only thing was I was hoping for an email address so I could write to Ali and the book did not have it. I have tried her web site but can't seem to get it to work for getting a message to her. Her book is very good, I started it and did not put it down until I was finished.

Amazing book.......2007-05-13
This is a terrific book! Alison Sweeney is not only an incredible actress but she is also a sweet, down to earth person. When I read this book I felt like I really knew her. She has the same everyday struggles as we all do. It was so good to hear someone who is famous being so honest about her struggles such as weight loss. This book is so inspiring and uplifting. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
Grat Read even if not a Days Fan!.......2007-03-31
I have watched days on and off for years but was never a huge Sami fan. I picked up this book to read while recovering from surgery. I had heard Ali will be hosting Biggest Loser and I wanted to know more about her.
The book is written with such honesty, like Ali is talking to a friend.
I was impressed by the honesty in her weight struggles and social life issues growing up in show business. I think it would be an inspiring read for any teen/young women struggling with weight, self esteem issues. It is obviosuly a great read for Days fans too.
Book Looks Good.......2007-03-09
I have not had a chance to read the book yet. It was in great condition and looks like it will be good. I like Allison Sweeney so I'm sure that I will enjoy the book when I have the chance to read it.
All the Days of My Life (so far).......2006-11-06
The book was a very interesting insight into Alison Sweeney's life and how she is off camera. She sounds like a person I'd like to meet.

A book that is impossible to put down.......2007-05-31
I read it in 3 days. Just a great book (I don't think I would make it as a professional reviewer)!
Too Many Words Too LIttle Honesty.......2006-11-20
I love biographies and I loved the Donny and Marie show as a kid. I thought I would really like this book, but it was very poorly written. It is amazing to me the Donny Osmond had the help of a professional.
Donny spent so much of the book defending the actions of his obviously controlling father, a situation so common when children become entertainers. The book did not come across as real. He spent too much time trying to spare everyone's feelings. He spent too much time talking about how great his family was when they very clearly weren't.
There didn't need to be dirt, but it seems the author still has not come to terms with his family situation while growing up. I hope he writes a more honest book some day when he is older.
Best Autobiography ever.......2004-02-10
As much as I followed the Osmond Family careers, I read this hoping to find all the rumors to be false. It opened my eyes to how it really was for him in the limelight.
Glad to have the MAN back......the little boy grew up.
Very Spiritual, inspiring........2002-01-14
You do not need to be a Donny Osmond fan, or an Osmond fan for that matter to appreciate the message in this book.
Read this book, and learn about the Osmond's strength in their spiritual beliefs; learn about Donny's severe social anxiety dissorder, and how he copes with it.
I strongly recomend this book!!
Not an Osmond fan but loved the book.......2001-09-08
...While I will probably never be a fan of the music I really enjoyed the book. I think there are some important lessons here regarding raising children in the entertainment industry. Lesson #1 - Don't do it! Frankly I am a bit surprised that he did not end up another casualty of child celebrity or head into dark places like his friend Michael Jackson. I was most impressed with Osmond's honesty and candor. His handling of his devastating career collapse as well as his social phobia really make for good reading. Somehow I suspect we haven't seen the end of Donny Osmond. Even if you run screaming whenever "Puppy Soldier of Love" comes on you may still enjoy the book. I certainly did.

Book Description
One of America’s most popular music artists shares beautiful pieces of an unforgettable human mosaic, revealing pieces of a life in progress.
With her unmistakable voice and honest lyrics, Amy Grant has captured a unique place in American music. As the bestselling Christian music artist of all time, a crossover pop sensation, and the wife of country music star Vince Gill, Amy has lived much of her life in the spotlight, subject to adulation, speculation, and scrutiny. Now for the first time she bares her heart and soul to reveal thoughts on everything from motherhood and marriage to fame and forgiveness. Whether describing personal moments alone on a moonlit hillside or very public ones performing with the likes of Tony Bennett and James Taylor, Amy presents a captivating collection of beautiful reflections on life, love, and faith.
Includes Never Before Published Lyrics to New Songs
Rendered with the lyrical insight we see in her music, Amy reflects on the pieces of her life through the years, forming a vivid mosaic of memories rich in color, varied in texture, and united in their heartfelt design.
“Thanks to writing and remembering, I’m re-inspired to value both the mundane and magical moments. In trying to capture a few memories as best as I can, I give myself the gift of treasuring what has been so far a very full and meaningful life. I hope you will do the same with yours.” —Amy Grant
Amy Grant weaves original lyrics and poetry into a narrative patchwork of timeless candor in Mosaic. The pieces of her life so far provide stunning inspiration for her beloved fans. Mixing lighthearted reminiscences of her Tennessee childhood, poignant scenes from her life as a wife and mother, and down-to-earth insight from her celebrity stardom, Amy invites you into her world and gently leads you to fresh insights about your own.
Amy’s winsome personality and joyful authenticity radiate from each page, welcoming you into the satisfying company of a warm and compassionate artist—a woman who sees life through a unique and deeply personal lens.
Amy Grant got her start in the music business with a part-time job sweeping up a Nashville music studio, which provided the perfect opportunity to duplicate a tape of her original songs as a gift for her family. A studio executive overheard her recordings—and the rest is music history.
Since the surprising success of her debut album thirty years ago, Amy has grown into a music legend, with six Grammy Awards, twenty-six Dove Awards, and six pop chart-topping hits to her credit. An inductee into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame, she also was honored in 2006 with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

A good collection.......2007-01-08
This book is a collection of contributions to a Crusaders Website by people in the world of Christian youth work and Christian life in the UK. The contributors include Joel Edwards, Gerald Coates, Stanley Davies, Keith Danby and many others - some who were unfamiliar to me and perhaps most would be unfamiliar to the American reader.
Each writer's contribution is 5-8 pages long and most talk about the influence that Christ has been on their lives and how he has helped them to grow and to persevere through trials. There are guides for reflection at the end of each contribution.
Overall I found the book interesting and encouraging although as each piece was fairly short it was difficult to really dig deep into the underlying message. This would probably work quite well as a quiet time study guide rather than something to just read straight through.
Book Description
In always seeking to emulate her mother, Velma, Jeanne's intelligence and wisecrack humor have gone unnoticed, resting in the shadow of her mother's undeniable Southern charm and beauty. Witnessing her mother's deterioration first-hand, Jeanne realizes that heroes aren't born; they are made. Always an expert at analyzing others while neglecting herself, a series of traumas including her failed marriage and almost getting raped force her to reflect on her motives and goals in life; learning to stop pointing the finger at others, to free herself from worry, and to give herself more credit.
The Worst Day of My Life, So Far is in one sense a timeless story of a woman's journey toward self-discovery and confidence. At the same time, through the eyes of the tragedy of Alzheimer's, it is a timely legend, one that shows us that there are no dead ends in life, only long roads, often without the end in sight. Fairy tale is shattered and reality becomes an often overdue slap in the face. Through Jeanne, Harper helps us come to terms with thoughts and worries we may
have, but are too proud to admit. We're reminded that although we're conscious of our daily routine, we may be out of touch with reality, causing us question the truth, if there is one at all.
Customer Reviews:
Great book. Period........2006-06-11
Memoirs have been increasing lately as everyone is interested in everyone else's sordid tales. Even with the James Frey mishap (A Million Little Pieces), people are still eager to read memoirs.
I came upon this book quite by accident at a bookstore. I sat right down and read the first 3 chapters. I have no experience with Alzheimer's, but this book is just not about caring for your parent(s) with the disease. It is about self re-discovery later in life after you're done with the marriage and kid thing.
M.A. Harper walks to old marching tunes in New York City in the middle of the rain and you feel her pain. She's trapped in a grey world of forgetfulness. Her husband is never there for her, her kid goes off to college and begins a life of his own, and there she is taking care of her mother; being the sole caretaker.
This book is filled with acidic words that break down into comedic sarcasm, sometimes hopelessness, and will most certainly make you want to cry.
I don't believe I've ever read a memoir that was as biting nor as captivating. Even if you don't have any experience with a person who is (or has been) suffering from Alzheimer's disease, this memoir is a must read. You'll finish reading it and want to start all over again.
So far, so good.......2005-02-22
My grandmother has just been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and I'm already experiencing some of the feelings Harper does such a brilliant job of describing in this story... the guilt, the frustration, the hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel. From reading other reviews of this book, the author also does a great job of depicting how the disease progresses.
"The Worst Day of My Life, So Far" is about Jeanne, taking care of her mother, Velma who was suffering from Alzheimer. Jeanne promised her beloved father, C. Ray, that she would take care of Velma. Harper does a wonderful job of describing the love between her parents and the relationship she had with her mother. The characters are so well described, the reader can easily connect with them.
There, of course, are subplots in terms of her husband, son and brother and his family. All of the characters are woven well.
Harper's ability to tell with grace and humor the story of Jeanne, her relationship with her mother and the effects of Alheimer's on the once goddess-like Velma is well worth the read.
I didn't like all the Hobbit references. And perhaps I haven't been around my grandmother enough to be as hateful as I at times read Jeanne to be. Perhaps as grandma's disease progresses, I'll understand better.
Realistic and enjoyable at the same time!.......2005-01-03
As a person who has experienced Alzheimer's firsthand, I can say that Harper really captures what it is like to lose a family member while their physical presence still exists. The main character is not your average normal person nor is her realtionship with her mother typical. I think that gives the story more edge and readability. The Buchanan marriage is believable for its time as are the characters. The story carries quickly and seamlessly. Our heroine isn't the beautiful, perfect person, but a flawed and honest character. Great writing, great read.
Wonderful!.......2004-09-29
I absolutely loved this book. I could identify with Jeanne on so many different levels. I've known the worry, fear and frustrations of having to deal with a sick parent and could relate to many of the feelings Jeanne was experiencing. A beautifully written book, full of humor and sadness. I would recommend this book to all, regardless of whether they have had to deal with a sick parent or not.
What It Takes To Appreciate This Book.......2003-04-23
You have to be a wide reader. You must daily mingle with human beings, perfect, and not so perfect. You need wisdom and forgiveness for people around you who drive you crazy, perhaps elderly relative or teenaged children or spouses. You need honesty in regard to your own private feelings. Above all, you have to have a keen sense of humor and one that is not limited to only what is deemed conventionally funny. I appreciate this book very much and congratulate its honest author for having the courage to write it for those of us who "get it."

Like others, I became interested as a result of the wonderful movie "My Life So Far", which is based on this book. It is out of print, and very expensive in the USA, but reasonably priced copies are listed at Amazon UK -- http://www.amazon.co.uk
Movie is also a favorite of mine........2001-04-09
I've been looking for the book since viewing the movie My Live So Far. I agree that there must be a reprinting to satisfy the renewed interest. If you haven't seen the movie, do.

Haven't read the book, but the movie was so good, I would think a renewed interest in the printed book would occur.

Hooray for Edith Ann!.......2006-09-16
I adore this book! Edith Ann is so insightful, funny and charming. This book will truly brighten up your day and make you laugh. An absolute MUST for Lily Tomlin fans!!!
A Child's Eye View of Everything.......2006-01-27
As you read the pithy observations of Edith Ann, you have to imagine Lily Tomlin perched in the oversized rocking chair. I can hear her voice as Edith Ann says, "My mom says I have to be more positive and I say life has to be more positive too or it's just not going to work."
You can't help but smile (and sometimes laugh out loud) as you read Edith Ann's comments about being a kid. Sometimes she gives her opinions on grown up issues too. Fun...Fun...Fun
The book is 191 pages, but is a quick read with little sketches and plenty of white space. "Growing up can take a lifetime," according to Edith Ann.
Life at it's simplest.......2002-02-10
Edith Ann is charming. With the simplicity of a child, she faces fears that we all deal with. When I feel that I am losing any part of my childhood, I reach for this book. You should too.
Life's too complicated...Read this!.......1999-01-09
This book tells stories through the eyes of a child that are more of parables to adults that take life WAY too seriously. I've read this book several times, and each time it brings back a piece of my childhood that I shouldn't forget, and it teaches me things about life that I should always remember. Edith Ann's life thus far should be an example to our lives as we continue to complicate things and remain over-stressed...Read it!

The slightly darker side of Edith Ann.......2000-09-06
Remember the animated specials with Edith Ann in them? As much as I adore Lily Tomlin, as much as the little girl in the huge chair cracked me up, the Jane Wagner version, the smart, sarcastic, slightly sad little girl with the big head, is better. Her voice is perfect, and some of the things she says are things I say, or wish I'd thought of first. "Childhood is the leading cause of stress among kids my age."
