Audio CD review.......2007-07-20
I have to admit, at first it was a little annoying listening to Raymond changing his voice to imitate Mother. He sounds much more like Jonathan Winters' "Grandma Frickert" character than Mother Angelica.
But the content of this book is of course so good that I was able to tune that out and just become absorbed in Mother's timeless wisdom. Good job, Raymond!
Wonderful Words Yet Hurtful!.......2007-07-16
Her Words are worderful, yet could be very hurtful. Since she's giving us some thoughts to think about, let me give you some thoughts to think about.
What about the family in Tacoma, Washington, whose 12 or 13 year old girl was suddenly grabbed after watching fireworks and whose dead bady was found a few days later! Should they be giving the experience over to the Lord! Don't they have the right,at least for awhile, to be FOROCIOUSLY MAD AT THE LORD before they come to the point of being able to give it over to Him or perhaps would that be an example of praying to much for ourselves as Sister likes to say so much!
What about the lady who was dieing on the floor of the convenience store and people were walking over her and some even taking pictures? Wouldn't she have the right to be TREMENDOUSLY MAD AT GOD before she could give it over to Him, or, as Sister is so fond of saying, would that be praying to too much for ourselves?
What about the rape victims, the children who are in abusive situations within their own homes, etc.? The way that she sounds is that those of us who are in trouble can INSTANTLY give EVERYTHING over to the Lord.
I'm sorry Sister Angelica, sometimes that's not possible for many reasons. Sometimes the reasons are due to Post Tramatic Stress requireing a therapist and/or psychologist for medications.
Sometimes the Lord will use various types of professionals to help bring a person to the point where he or she can give everything over to Him. Within your book, you seem to recognize the fact that we should give everything over to Him, however, you never mention the need that sometimes that requires the use professionals and sometimes, depending upon the individual involved and the type of situation, even with the use of a professionals and even prayer, it might take a year or more to completely give everything over to the Lord. Sometimes, that's just the way the Lord's made us.
A Guide to Life.......2007-07-04
Mother Angelica, through her frankness and wit, provides us answers to the questions we all seem to ask at one time or another about life. She is a genius! Read her biography as well if you can. This book will give you information on how to improve your life, and her biography will give you the motivation. Her show on EWTN was a gem. They play reruns - catch it if you can to see her in action. She is simply stunning.
Fantastically inspiring!.......2007-07-03
Arroyo does a marvelous job of compiling this beautiful and inspiring book on Mother Angelica's everyday spirituality and life lessons. You can tell he was close to her and knew how to put this all together. This book was so inspiring to me because it speaks from such a practical stand point. Her lessons are not deep and theological but practical and useful for our everyday life struggles. I highly recommend it no matter what religious persuasion you may come from!
Book Description
Motherhood can be one of the most intense and transformative experiences of a woman's life. While many books explore the do's and don'ts of effective parenting, few offer guidance on navigating the tumultuous inner experience of being a mother, with all its joy, pain, change, and uncertainty. Your Children Will Raise You explores the profound inward challenges and rewards of motherhood, from first giving birth to the empty nest. The editor—herself a mother of two sons—has chosen some of the most insightful writings about the emotional and spiritual landscape of motherhood—twenty-four essays in all—drawn from the best books, articles, and essays, as well as two original essays. The authors speak from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, each exploring a unique dimension of the journey of motherhood. Your Children Will Raise You features writings by
Poet and novelist Louise Erdrich, who captures the sheer wonder and awe of early motherhood.
Ariel Gore—a self-described "hip-momma," fully in touch with today's youth culture—who reflects on the challenges of dealing with her own daughter's adolescent rebellion.
Journalist Joan Peters, who highlights the rise of the "Power Mom" and the risks of overparenting to our children and to ourselves.
Harville Hendrix and Helen LaKelly Hunt—husband and wife psychotherapists—explore why it is that our own childhoods so often come back to haunt us when we become parents ourselves.
Zen teacher Cheri Huber offers a spiritual perspective: sometimes it's us parents who need a "time out"—time to get in touch with ourselves so we can be more fully present and loving with our children.

Product Description
A moving first-hand account of Mother Teresa and her work, written by someone who worked by her side. As an idealistic young volunteer, author Susan Conroy spent a summer serving in one of Mother Teresa's orphanages and in the Home for the Dying. "In a city where I found hell on earth," she says, "I also found each day a deep sense of peace and incredible happiness."
It was an experience that changed her life forever. She learned why Mother Teresa had found real joy in working with the poorest of the poor. Along the way, she took striking photographs that have never been seen before now - photographs that show Mother Teresa at her everyday best. This is an account you won't soon forget, told with simple and loving directness by an eyewitness.

Compelling, Inspring, and Genuine.......2006-07-25
What moved me most about this novel is the genuine change of heart that transformed the author's view of the world. Mother Teresa was powerful in word but moreso in deed. First hand experience with Mother, at age 21, is not a claim many can make and the lasting influence of these experiences and the life lessons resulting are inspiring and real. This is an excellent novel which should have a genuine, positive influence on the hearts of any open minded reader.
this book is just more fluff for the brainwashed.......2006-04-20
I read this book while waiting for a train one afternoon. It's absolute nonsense. If anyone is really interested in understanding who Mother Theresa was and what she really cared about, I suggest reading Christopher Hitchens, The Missionary Position: Mother Teresa in Theory and Practice.
Deep Insight into Mother Teresa.......2005-11-12
I met Susan Conroy in Fall River MA where she came to present her book and experiences with Mother Teresa. The joyful and inspirational Susan amazed me with her patience as crowds surrounded her, looking for her to write a special message in their copy of her book. Susan reminded me of a recent guest on the Oprah Winfrey show, Maria Shriver, another joyful and inspirational woman. This book captures Susan's joy and inspiration, and the Mother Teresa experiences that have helped mold Susan's life. This book is a MUST for Mother Teresa fans.
A Summer With Mother Teresa.......2005-09-21
The author spent a summer with Mother Teresa as a volunteer, in several aspects of the work in Calcutta. The volunteers had special daily time with Mother and learned not only what she did, but why she did it. Well written book; Miss Conroy has a knack for expressing deep feelings but without sentimentality. A great source for anyone who wishes to understand the greatest woman of our time.
Wonderful, personal account of Mother Teresa.......2004-04-05
My spiritual book group chose this book for our book-of-the-month based on a member seeing the author interviewed. We all loved it; I think it's the most popular book we've read in six months. This is not by any means a complete biography, but a much more personal, and touching, portrait told through the eyes of a young woman. My whole family is now reading it based on my recommendation. People of all faiths will enjoy seeing the saint from a fresh perspective.

Thirsting for God.......2006-01-25
This audiobook was inspirational, though quite heavy with spiritual conviction. I found I could digest it in small pieces only. Although the words were meaningful, I thought the message of "seeing Christ in the destitute and dying" was repeated over and over, perhaps too repetitive throughout the tape. If you have read any other of Mother Theresa's biographies, you might have already heard these same messages. But it was nice to hear Mother Theresa in her own words.
Life Changing.......2006-01-09
I would rate these CD's on the scale of Life Changing. The spiritual teachings of Mother Theresa are simple but profound at the same time. It's no wonder God chose this small, simple woman to do such a great and wonderful work. She started by helping one person and left the world with over 600 houses world-wide! Humility is intertwined in all her teachings which state The Truth in a simple and loving way. Anyone who hears these CD's will certainly be affected in some way. They start off a bit slow in the beginning, but they pick up and transport you to a virtual retreat. Enjoy!
Mother Theresa comforts in her amazing way again!.......2003-03-12
I never tire of hearing the words of Mother Theresa and hearing them on this audio book was like being touched by God himself. This little bitty woman touched so many in her life. One has to fight the tears when listening to her stories and true life accounts of suffering. Yet, in the suffering she always points to the Cross of Jesus and the love of God. The Hope of God never ceases in those who come to him. She offers this hope to all who listen. A beautifully-written, compassionate, and endearing book. The author of this book brings Mother Theresa's words to life!

from what I hear..........2005-07-07
from what I hear, this is a great book. However my puppy pulled it of the counter the day I got it and chewed it into a million pieces. Once I order another I will give a better review.
A captivating way to open the skeptical mind to the spirit.......1999-10-10
I found myself relating not only the symbolism of the Arthurian Lengend to my own real life in this time, but also other symbols that had been in my life but without interpretation until after listening to the book version of Chopra's "Way of the Wizard." So much more of my life became clear to me. I might have preferred another reader (perhaps I will read the written version). Nonetheless, I found the book quite inspiring and highly recommend it.
Excellent Metaphysical message.......1999-02-10
Wizardry and sorcerory have had negative conotations. Carlos Castenada helped to portray sorcerors in a better light. This reveals Merlin as a Seer (like the prophet Samuel). This book is filled with terrific insights. It may be the universe teaching us about the next step.

One Woman's Journey ---- May Bless Yours.......2007-08-21
Angela Thomas writes candidly and hopefully about her recent journey as a single mom raising four children. If you're a single mother you'll relate to much of this book: even more so if you are woman of faith, trusting God to help you raise well-balanced kids in a one-parent household.
Please don't give up! Angela's journey can bless yours; you'll read stories here that may apply to your situation also.
As family counselors who specialize in single parenting issues, we are often asked to review books for publication. It can get tiring! Yet every once in a while something comes along that is a joy to read, and also a joy to recommend to others: this book fits that category.
It is a pleasure to recommend this book very highly, to any single mom and especially to single moms who are women of faith. May God bless your journeys and help you raise great kids!

missing something- reality check.......2007-08-03
After reading this book, I continued to struggle with the familiar nagging at my heart and the ache in my stomach, which speak more honestly to me about the realities of single motherhood. While I respect and appreciated many things that this author described about her own experience as a single mother, the heavy emphasis on religion, the reliance on a masculine form of divinity and the reference to the constant craving for a "hunky" male partner, particularly towards the end, left me feeling like this book was directed primarily at the white, high heeled, manicured, primarily Christian raised, middle class lifestyle type of mother. It spoke largely of this one woman's experience with the hopes that some of it might help other women, likely in similar circumstances. None of the descriptions of this book, nor the on line reviews identify the heavy extent to which the theme of religion, a male God, church, etc. are woven into the chapters. If something in this book resonates for white middle class women, great, the book is a success. But there remain thousands of women who do not fit in this group. Some of the serious issues that are often part of single mother hood and need real solutions, real acknowledgement, seem to be minimized or ignored. Dealing with abusive ex partners who remain involved in the children's lives, dealing with the emotional upheaval of depression, experiences of anxiety, trying to secure medical care for oneself and ones children, trying to find and get to therapy or good counselling, legal costs, not dating for years, not dating at all, having to manage house hold repairs, sick children, a full time job, shift work, all of these things alone....they just aren't dealt with adequately. The isolation of living in a smaller community, and not jetting off to other cities and countries, the lack of family resources and few reliable men who have time to mentor a son....they are realities for many many women. This book falls short for these women. The end of the book was disappointing...the reference to the fantasy of the dreamy man that is pined for and waited for, the end goal.......the hope for this dream to come true.....it promotes the message that a woman is not whole or enough without a man....that the goal is eventually to be with a man. This book seemed like an outpouring of one woman's story, and perhaps that was in itself therapeutic for the author. But for the other women out there who are also raising amazing children and get through the day with incredible integrity, courage and strength, women out there who don't have a personal assistant, don't jet off to big cities or other countries and do workshops or talks, don't have people stop them and tell them "you are beautiful",or "you know why we all love you", haven't dated for years, this book will feel alienating and out of touch with their reality and those "practical" challenges. Potential readers and purchasers of this book should at the very least be aware of this ahead of time.
Simply Angela.......2007-07-24
I love Angela's style of writing. witty, down-to-earth, and inspiring. This is an excellent book for those facing motherhood alone. It has some great ideas about creating a loving, safe, secure home for your children. It is written with a Christian perspective and gives you a lot of inspiration on looking to God for guidance and strength. I am a single mother of 4, also, like the author.
