Book Description
That stammer. Those basset-hound eyes. That bone-dry wit. There has never been another comedian like Bob Newhart. His comedy albums, movies, and two hit television series have made him a national treasure and placed him firmly in the pantheon of comedy legends. Who else has a drinking game named after him? And now, at last, Newhart puts his brilliant and hysterical world view on paper. Never a punch-line comic, always more of a storyteller, he tells anecdotes from throughout his life and career, including his beginnings as an accountant and the groundbreaking success of his comedy albums and The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart, which gave him fifteen years on primetime television. And he also gives his wry, comedic twist to a multitude of topics, including golf, drinking, and family holidays. Today, Newhart appears on Desperate Housewives, in hit movies such as Elf, and in theaters around the country. Reruns of his shows air constantly on Nick at Nite -- have recently been released with great success for the first time ever on DVD. With this book, Bob Newhart gives his millions of fans a first ever opportunity to sample his unique brand of humor -- including excerpts from some of his classic routines -- on the printed page.

entertaining book.......2007-09-25
A quick read. Very entertaining. I had listened to the CD and wanted to read it. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Very funny read.......2007-09-23
This was a very funny read from Bob Newhart. He tells the story of his
life in short interludes which put together a picture of a man at peace with himself and the world. His humor has always made me laugh, some-
times loudly and this book did the same thing.
I shouldn't Even be Doing This.......2007-09-19
Not a rib splitter. But a good, relaxing read. Lots of fun stories about Newhart and his celebrety friends. If you like Newhart's sense of humor, you will like this book.
Okay read.......2007-07-05
I didn't read the ad carefully when I purchased this product. Even though we thought it was an album of Bob Newhart's comedy routines we enjoyed listening to the book. It was a 3 CD book and we enjoyed alternating this book with the other audiobooks we had purchased.
Disappointed.......2007-06-22
I like Bob Newhart, but this book was not as good as I was hoping for. It was not a quick read.

Customer Reviews:
Groucho was right!.......2005-03-02
Save your money and for sure don't buy this book! The only funny thing stated in this book was from Groucho Marx. He said, "From the moment I picked your book up until I laid it down I was convulsed with laughter. Someday I intend reading it." In respect for Groucho, I would have this to say to him, I read the book and there was nothing funny or laughable except for your quote.
There isn't ANYONE who won't benefit from this book!.......1999-11-09
Every single line in this marvelous book contains wisdom, good sense, and simple yet profoundly logical advice that we should apply to every day of our lives. You'll find yourself reading lines over several times to better remember what they say about the importance of laughter, how it can be misused, and how it can add immeasurably to our quality of life. Written with intelligence and humor in easy-to-read, conversational style, the author shows us that laughter should not be "laughed off" as unnecessary, unproductive or frivolous. I found myself repeatedly saying "what a great thought" or "what a fabulous idea." For those with problems, illnesses or aspects of their lives that are not really funny, this book offers rock-solid solutions for using laughter therapy to help you deal and cope in dramatically better ways. Few, if any, of us don't have stress or problems that drain our physical and emotional reservoirs -- and so, this book has inspiring, universal appeal. Light bulbs will go on for you when you read this unique book that will help you communicate more deeply, directly and enjoyably with others -- and with yourself. Life is often tragic and very real, and this book proves that it is also enormously funny. I would buy this book as a gift for everyone you know! There won't be anyone who won't thank you a thousand times over for it!

Great for Art Class.......2007-09-18
I use this whole series in my Art Class to Elementary children. They love this extra activity. It builds their confidence that they can draw identifible things. They even take multiple instructions and create a whole picture. I ripped the book apart and laminated the pages into easy to use cards. Works great!
Perfect for Children.......2006-07-27
Very pleased with this How to Draw Book. Our Grandchildren--ages 5 and 7--- sat down and immediately started drawing people from the book. I was amazed! Easy directions for them to understand.
Book Description
In this landmark book, esteemed Buddhist teacher Sylvia Boorstein addresses this incisive question in a warm, delightful and personal way. With the same down-to-earth charm and wit that have endeared her to her many students and readers, Boorstein shows how one can be both an observant Jew and a passionately committed Buddhist.
Customer Reviews:
Interfaith understanding appreciated.......2006-09-25
I am not a religiously observant person, but Sylvia Boorstein's negotiation of two religious paths is appreciated as a welcome example of interfaith practice. We need more of the same within and beyond the communities of faith as we make the messy, dangerous transition from tribal sectarianism and exclusivist ideology to a society based on insight, compassion, justice and dignity.
This is a well-written and inspiring book.
A very personal point of combining Buddhism and Judaism.......2006-03-26
The writer tels us in her own intimacy and personal honest way how Buddhism is intergated with her born religous - Judaism and even may sometimes strengthens each other.
An entertaining and inspiring read.......2005-12-12
I must say, this is a great book. Its a bit of serendipity as I read it with cynical curiosity.
Boorstein uses her own story and insights to illustrate her experience with how spiritual traditions can play off of one another and for some people become more meaningful together than either one could do for those individuals.
By recalling her memories for the reader she gives an honest and factual explication of the subject. She approaches topics with no hidden agenda. What's more her writing style - which is humorous and very readable - combines with some great tidbits from her past to make this books quite entertaining.
I hardly put this book down from the moment I began reading it. I believe, and hope, almost anyone will probably like it as much as I have.
I learned nothing.......2005-02-11
The author does a good job expressing her difficulty in being a Jew and a Buddhist, and then tries to squeeze in a few ideas that try to bring the two together. I have studied Judaism for many years and I can say that she doesn't really know much about Authentic Judaism all she knows is what a Jew is in the modern western world, but that is not true Judaism.
True authentic Judaism doesn't have to be forced into symmetry with Buddhism, it is readily apparent how both traditions come from the same source and flow beautifully together. What is needed is for someone to explain what Judaism is.
There is a wonderful book that just came out and I strongly recommend it for anyone who wants to find out about this subject. I promise you wont be disappointed.
It is a conversation between a Torah Scholar (Akiva Tatz) and a Buddhist Jew (David Gottlieb) called "Letters to a Buddhist Jew."
Enjoy!
Good read but problematic.......2004-09-29
It's a good book in many ways but does require a certain familiarity with both religions, which can understandably put off some readers. I appreciated the author's examination of the issue because it echoes my own in many ways.
However, the teachings of Buddhism never, in any way, ask a Jew to negate any of the basic teachings of Judaisim, if I read correctly. One other reader cited the so-called irony entailed in working to make Buddhism and Judaism mesh while rejected "Jews for Jesus." Acceptance of Jesus as a messiah is a fundamental rejection of the Jewish belief that the messiah is yet to come.
I appreciated reading how Boorstein works to see the commonalities in her deeply held understandings.

Math Improvement the FUN way. .......2007-03-16
This product helped my grand daughter who was having math difficulty better understand math concepts. She was having fun at the same time.
Great Book.......2006-03-05
This is an awesome book. However it was a bit of a challenge for most of my students. But they really got into it...especially my boys.
Average All the Way.......2004-05-11
I was hoping this book would help reach more learners, but it is a standard word problem resource with below average "comics" on each page. My students are not inspired at all by the jokes, though younger students might be.
The word problems are no better than those in any standard textbook and in fact are probably much worse than those in more current textbooks. They are good for basic skills drill, but not much more.
If you are looking for math problems that are truly inspired by comic strips, the NCTM monthly magazines provide excellent and thought-provoking problems.
Fun and kids like it........2003-10-26
I used this book with my math students and they liked it. The comics are cute, but most of all, the math problems are very good and makes kids think. I recommend this book for grades 4 - 7.
Great comics.......2000-09-25
I've seen this book and others like it and enjoy finding cartoons to put on tests or worksheets to help ease the mood. I've had teachers that used this technique and it helped me relax while I was working. A great way to show your students your funny bone.
Book Description
"A fool and his words are soon parted," wrote William Shenstone in 1764; one might add that "A wit and his words are rarely collected." Here is the antidote: a dazzling survey of the funniest remarks, quips and observations from Ancient Rome, the Bible and Chaucer right up to The Simpsons and The Office. More than 5,000 of the very funniest remarks to have appeared on paper since, well, paper was invented.
The lines we all wish we could have said are arranged thematically and cover all aspects of life: from the world we inhabit to the things we eat, smoke and drink; from the way we move around to what and how we learnoh, and the pointlessness of football. Within each theme, the quotations are placed chronologically providing a real sense of the development of thoughts about each subjectas well as seeing how jokes evolve over the years and, in some cases, who "borrowed" from whom.
There is a short biography of each author, a brief contextual note for each quotation and an index of keywords to help you find your chosen witticism quickly. But do not be over-hasty when you use this book; it is a browser's delight, and should be enjoyed at leisure

Book Description
A Self-Help Spoof for the Life Impaired
Right here in this book store, you can find hundreds of them -- self-help books. They tell you how to improve your finances, lose weight, age gracefully, and influence people. But even after reading all those books, you're still a mess. It can only mean one thing: maybe life's just not that into you.
Once you open you mind to this possibility, you can quit beating yourself up. It's all about attitude. It's about the find art of whining. It's about losing your shirt, but keeping your dignity. It's about being dull and boring, but making it work for you. It's about losing friends and influencing nobody. It's about just saying no to dieting because, well, let's be honest, carbs just taste good.
A hilarious, good-natured spoof on more that fifty self-help books, this book will leave you feeling better about who you are and laughing your way to becoming the person God created you to be.
Customer Reviews:
Funny.......2007-09-24
Admit it... you read all those popular so-called self-help books and put their advices, exercises, recommendations, suggestions, plans, ideas, mantras, meditations, visualizations, affirmations, prayers to work only to find that none of that silliness works, and then you turned to this book and had a NECESSARY GOOD OL' LAUGH!... I admit it.
Absolutley Awful! .......2007-09-13
I really give this book NO stars.
This was the dumbest book I have ever read. By reading the reviews of this book before I bought it-it sounded like it would be really funny. It is soooo disappointing, I couldn't finish reading it. Wish I could return it! It's going right into the charity box.
VERY FUNNY.......2007-09-03
There was a lot to like about this book beginning with the concept. A book that rakes self help books over the proverbial coals is a premise you'd think would have been done long ago.
With that concept, the laughs come easy. As an occasional reader of Tony Robbins I found the chapter mocking his "The Giant Within" ("The Behemoth Within") to be hysterical, and the funniest thing I've read in a while. (In the chapter sending up the book, "Tony Robbins" is a giant of a man who lives in a run down tiny apartment so small he has to sleep with his feet extending into the apartment building corridor.) I also liked the scathing send ups of "The Rules" "Who Moved My Cheese", and "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" the latter a sanctimonious, patronizing financial advice book that was ripe for parody. The book correctly portrays self improvement authors as a group of vain men & women who love to put phony "Dr" credentials in front of their name and refer to themselves in first person.
I also loved the parodies of those little "positive affirmations" books with their piffy little positive thought balloons. Also the brilliant, hard hitting mockery of "Maybe He's Just Not That Into You" when all a guy has to do is sneeze for the authors to shout "dump that loser" had me laughing.
The reviews for this book are all over the map, proving how subjective comedy is. But if you're a halfway well read person who has a basic understanding of what a self improvement book is, you will LOVE this book. Also if you're a fan of satire, specifically movies like "Spinal Tap", and "Best of Show" you will love this book.
My only complaint is that some of the diagrams were a little bland. But the text sparkles.
Maybe Life's Just Not That Into You: When You feel Like the World's Voted You Off.......2007-09-02
Read lots of reviews before buying this. Cannot believe anyone would think this is a self help book or even a spoof on a self help book. The best thing about this book is the title. If you like real inane humor then this book is for you. Comparing it to the humor of Woody Allen or Gary Larsen is like comparing the Ritz Carlton to Days Inn. The humor is so corny that it brought back memories of the Three Stooges. If anyone wants this book I'd be glad to send it to them free just to get rid of it.
Better Than Other Books.......2007-08-30
As someone with slight though persistent mental problems who alternates between wanting to mock and embrace the self-help genre, I found this book hit just the right note. And it made me laugh. But, before taking my word, remember, I have mental problems.
