Excellent book.......2007-10-03
As a calligrapher in the wedding business I was looking for books to recommend to brides from my website. I found this book to be a little gem of information. It won't write your thank you's for you but it will guide you through the do's and don'ts using basic common sense. It has a helpful thesaurus and several sample notes to help you get past the writers block you will inevitably get when you sit down for this daunting task.
Ummmm....are you serious.......2007-04-26
This isn't the first time I've fallen for the mental game of "well, two people on Amazon loved it - it must be great" when purchasing an item. This book certainly falls into this category for me.
I read the book cover to cover in about two hours (nice feature), but only received two or three helpful "etiquette" pointers. Other than that, I feel you're buying a book of basic common sense when it comes to writing a thank you.
Thus said, I've always been a decent writer, so....this book is probably more helpful for people that have a hard time finding what to say and how to say it. I, personally, do not have many reservations in this area.
So, in short, this book was not useful to me, but, not to be completely negative, it might be a good inspiration for those that feel writing a thank you is an extremely daunting task - that's just not me. º
Excellent Book.......2006-01-10
This book was a wonderful tool I used when writing thank you notes after my wedding.I got many compliments on how well written they were from many of our guests. It has helped me write thank you notes since my wedding for many other occasions. I think it is important to write a "heartfelt" thank you note to someone who took the time to purchase a gift or give you their time. In fact, now I get irritated when I get a thank you note with 2 sentences!
I couldn't have written them all without this book!!.......2002-02-15
This book is fantastic! It helped me slog through the 179 thank you notes I had to write after my wedding. There were lots of great ideas of what to say and how to say it, and beleive me, after about the 25th thank you note, I needed all the help I could get. There is good solid, practical advice as to how to manage the thank you note writing task as well as inspirational advice to help you stay properly focused and, well, thankful. All in all, it was indespensable!
Book Description
Answering hundreds of questions about content, style, and etiquette, this will help newlyweds write thank-you notes that are both personal and appropriate.
Customer Reviews:
A litte dated, but overall very helpful.......2007-02-04
The task of writing 50-100 thank you notes for wedding gifts can be a little daunting, and this book was very helpful. They outline the anatomy of a thank you note and offer suggested wording, which I found more useful than the actual sample thank you notes. The language in them seems a bit dated.
Useless.......2007-01-10
I was really excited about this book but it was a huge disappointment. It really needs to be updated.
VERY USEFUL WITH OUR NOTES!!.......2006-12-02
This book was very helpful to get us through our huge stack of thank you notes!!!
Thank You Notes Are SO Easy & Appreciated With This!.......2006-02-06
I picked up this book on a whim this summer to help me thank friends and family for engagement gifts. I considered that it would be useful in the long run for wedding gift thank you notes as well. Sure enough, this book is essential. Though its topics are limited, it inspires the basics to compose a simple and heartfelt thank you note. If I were to change this book in any way, I'd add more 'template' notes for different types of gifts, like coffee makers, tea sets, and other common registry items.
The thank you notes I've written using the advice from this book were perfect. Friends actually commented on the notes and wrote me thank you notes for my thank you notes! No kidding! There may be similar books that can do the same job, but the concept behind this book and the resource itself make this a useful item to have as a bride-to-be or recently wed couple.
Just OK.......2005-07-07
There is nothing in this book that isn't reviewed by a larger, all encompassing etiquette book. It seemed like the suggestions didn't acknowledge the widely popular use of bridal registries. "Thank you for the crystal vase. It's just what we wanted." ...well obviously, if that's what you had registered for initially, right? It does, however, address some unusual situations. Fair content. Nothing special.

Very Useful.......2007-07-30
This book was great! While it is true that the book is a little outdated, I found the phrasing charming, and the attitude behind the samples provided was appropriately playful and sweet. Overall, this book really greased the wheels and got the creativity flowing for me when I sat down to write my own thank you notes. Unexpectedly, I received compliments on my thank you notes - talk about the proof in the pudding! Even better than that, my mother and my mother-in-law received compliments from their friends and family on how nice my thank you notes were, and the good will that created was priceless. I give the credit to this book. (However, I was smart enough to politely take the credit myself at the time.)
It was VERY helpful.......2006-06-05
My sister-in-law used this book and gave it to me when I got engaged. It was a complete lifesaver for me.
I did not copy these notes verbatim, but even reading through the "old-fashioned" phrasing in the sample notes gave me inspiration for writing my own. I find that the hardest part of thank-you notes is coming up with what to say after "Thank you for the ___." This book is full of ideas.
I am actually buying a copy for my new sister-in-law to be, because I want to keep my own copy around for birthdays and Christmas.
Helpful, but outdated.......2005-08-13
This book was originally published in 1968 and reprinted in 1985, so the advice is somewhat outdated. For example, it implies that sending thank you notes immediately after the wedding is absolutely necessary, otherwise you should apologize for not doing so as part of your note and include a reason. No bride I know these days spends her honeymoon writing thank you cards. Just as a matter of logistics, it's not possible, as the cards haven't been received from the photographer yet. That alone takes a month or so. So, right off the bat, there are a few issues that I have with this book, although it is helpful. There are general suggestions as far as wording goes, but again, most young brides I know would never use that phraseology as it is from the 60's and the wording would sound strange coming from us, although I understand the intention is for us to use it as a guide and to paraphrase. The only extremely helpful tip that I got from this book was not to write more than 5 notes per day (although it can be very tempting when you get on a roll!) as you will find yourself starting to write sloppy and making mistakes. People hang on to these cards as keepsakes and you want to make it worth their wait. Unfortunately, I could absolutely not locate any other more appropriate book to help me out. So, I would say if you are absolutely desperate for help, this book will do.
Outdated & Unhelpful.......2005-07-22
I bought this book to use when completing my shower thank you notes and it has not been very helpful. The sentiments are not heartfelt, but fake. The gift examples they give are not useful (telephone cart, sterling silver tea setting, chandelier) and it lacks helpful gifts like everyday place settings and everyday towels. The book desperately needs to be updated. Not for the Bride of the new millennium.
Useful Guide.......2003-01-26
Even though the book was first published in 1968, it served as a very useful guide for writing wedding thank yous. The section that eloquently illustrates how to word late wedding thank you cards is worth the entire cost of the book. A gem!

Writing Thank-You Notes: Finding the Perfect Words.......2005-08-30
The book has quite a selection of different thank-you, unfortunately, it didn't have any on the subject I was looking for, which was thank-you's for expressions of sympathy.
A Disappointment.......2002-06-11
I was extremely disappointed when I received this book. First of all, someone giving advice on writing thank you notes should know that it is improper to begin them with "thank you" as the first sentence. Secondly, the sample notes are so contrived that you probably would not want to pull ideas or words from them to write your own. I suggest you sample a different book if you are seeking help in the area of thank you notes.
A How To Primer For Writing Thank You Notes.......2000-01-02
Great resource for writing every kind of thank you note. This book is loaded with sample letters for every occassion. I enjoyed reading the book and will keep it in my office to refer to in the future. I feel I got my money's worth with this purchase.
A must for every household!.......1999-08-18
this is an excellent "How To" book on a subject that "should be" part of everyday life. It is written with humor and is easy to read. The examples and the text are helpful. This is a great gift for a young person starting out or anyone who needs a little reinforcement in etiquette.
a pleasure just to read.......1999-05-19
I saw this book at a bed and breakfast we were staying in. On my return I orderded multiple copies to give to friends. It is so well and I will say so sweetly written that everyone should read it just for fun. The author's use a common and kindly sense approach toward writing thank you notes that makes it fun to do rather than a task. They cover a range of reasons for thank you's as well as approaches. A must buy!
Book Description
Contains hundreds of fun and creative suggestions for writing memorable thank-you notes.

aLi LaUrEn SpiZmAn!!.......2005-08-13
This book warms my heart because it can enlighten people that saying thank you means a lot more than people generally think. Also, that there are so many different ways to thank someone; a letter or a phone call isn't always the most creative way to thank someone. Ali shows her readers that there are so many different ways to thank someone!
THANK YOU Ali for this book!

The Thank You Book for Kids.......2001-08-30
A great big THANK YOU to Ali Spizman for taking the time to remind all of us the importance of saying "Thank you". Being an elementary school librarian, I originally bought this book as a reference for my students. I soon found, however, that it was a great inspiration to me personally. Ali includes a tremendous variety of clever ways to make the often dull task of writing thank-you notes into an exciting exercise in creativity. This book should be required reading for all ages!
This book is a must for families!.......2001-07-13
As a mom of two young boys, I probably say thank you and remind someone else to say it about 50 times a day. It was so refreshing to read the words of a young woman who obviously knows the true meaning of the word and took the time to share her beautiful thoughts with others. It's also a fun read for parents and kids, filled with great ideas and a personal touch because the author includes letters she wrote to thank her friends, teachers, and even famous people (who were gracious enough to write back). After a long day of balancing work and family, this book really made my evening and is one I know we'll keep and use forever! I highly recommend it to other parents too.
Thank you Ali!.......2001-06-01
This is a book that should be on the bookshelf of every child's room! After seeing this book, your child will be thanking everyone. The book has creative and original ideas that will turn an ordinary thank you note into a memorable treat. The suggestions and sample letters will help your child write thank you letters with ease. Not only will your child enjoy reading it, they will continue to use it in the future as well. Both children and parents should be thanking the author for her brilliant work!
A Great Book for Encouraging Kids to Do the Right Thing.......2001-04-23
Sometimes it is so difficult to help your kids thank people when they receive a gift or a favor. This book actually does it for you. Inside this little book are terrific ways to let your child see that thanking others can be fun and worthwhile. Thanks to Ali Spizman, my child is now a pro. We've even "borrowed" a few of her lines for our own thank you's. A really worthwhile and creative book to have.
Book Description
It's 97 degrees at Camp Oogie Waaa Waaa, and Aunt Tallulah's goody package arrived from Antarctica. Will it be another long fluffy scarf? A pair of warm knitted gloves? A giant woven backpack? Follow along as love, silliness, and surprises are exchanged through the mail between Bettina and her nutty Aunt Tallulah. In hopes of inspiring children everywhere (especially her own) to write thank you notes, Carmela LaVigna Coyle wrote Thank You, Aunt Tallulah. Coyle brings us the story through a series of letters. Carmela LaVigna Coyle is the author of the bestselling Do Princesses? series; starting with, Do Princesses Wear Hiking Boots? and most recently, Do Princesses Really Kiss Frogs? Thank You, Aunt Tallulah is illustrated by the creative and talented Bruce MacPherson who has been featured in major publications, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post.

Cute Story - Too much for a Toddler.......2007-09-10
This is a cute story, but better targeted at the 5+ set. It's a longer story and takes a bit more attention and understanding than my 3.5 year old has at this point. I think it'll be a story we reread when she gets a bit older. Very nice illustrations. I bought this since WE LOVE the Fancy Nancy books, but this book is not at the same reading level nor same type of book as Fancy Nancy.
we LOVE aunt tellulah!.......2007-02-28
we love her - we giggle and laugh and love aunt tellulah and her knitting! This is a great book for 4-5 year olds!
Thoroughly entertaining and humorously original.......2006-07-14
Thank You Aunt Tallulah!, a "kid friendly" story by Carmela LaVigna Coyle combined with colorful cartoon-style illustrations from Bruce MacPherson, is the fun tale of the young Bettina in her first summer camp experience at Camp Oogie-Waa-Waa. Bettina corresponds through letters with her witty aunt Tallulah who lives in Antarctica. Captivating young readers ages 4 to 8 with Bettina and her aunt's exchange of packages ranging from clothing to film and pictures, Thank You Aunt Tallulah! tells two parallel tales, one of aunt Tallulah and her husband Reginald in their exploration of the South Pole, and the other of Bettina's interesting life at summer camp. A unique addition to school and community library picturebook collections, Thank You Aunt Tallulah! is very highly recommended as thoroughly entertaining and humorously original.
IT'S THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS !.......2006-06-21
For many of us one of the highlights of summer camp was receiving a "goody" box from home - that was because we didn't have an Aunt Tallulah!
Now, Aunt Tallulah is loving, kind, considerate and faithfully sends packages to her niece, Bettina, who is having a great time at Camp Oogie-Waaa-Waaa. However, despite Auntie's best intentions there seems to be some miscommunication. For instance, it's 97 degrees at Camp and Auntie sends Bettina a matching hand-knit sweater and scarf plus toe-socks. (Auntie loves to knit, although she does it in the dark so she's a bit unsure of the colors.)
Being a well-mannered young girl Bettina immediately writes a thank you note expressing her appreciation and remarking that the gifts "are going to fit me all through elementary school. And middle school. And probably high school. Maybe even college."
Youngsters will laugh at what comes in future boxes from Aunt Tallulah. Bruce MacPherson's colorful illustrations are just as smile provoking as the story, especially his take on the cute button nosed Bettina.

Another great book!.......2006-05-03
A departure from her "Do Princesses" series, this book demonstrates Carmela's flexible talent as an author. For a slightly older audience than "princesses" it is a perfect fit for my kids as they grow. And boys like it too! I say, "Thank You, Carmela!"

Great After Christmas Book.......2000-12-29
This book is fabulous for before, during, and especially after Christmas. I always use it with my 2nd & 3rd graders in January every year. The children and I love it! Samantha, a young Australian girl writes Santa a Thank You letter for all her Christmas gifts, and Santa writes back. This starts a whole year of correspondence back and forth. Santa writes about the animals and climate in the Arctic Circle. Samantha writes about life in Australia. The lush, detailed art work by Kerry Argent lets you know that this fictional book has a lot of "real" information in it. The children love comparing and contrasting Australia, the Arctic, and their home town. This book is great for teaching letter writing too. This book is a great gift for Winter birthdays.

Simply outstanding.......2003-04-24
Ideal book for all kind of Job hunting letters, one will ever come across, the letters are simple, heartfelt and not academic and dry like written by a school boy.
Some find it novel way of writing job hunting letters.
But effective believe me.
Great Examples of Letters for Job Seekers-And Fun to Read.......2003-04-06
After a section on writing effective correspondence, this book provides models of the many letters needed in a job-seeking campaign, including 1) telling your friends about your job hunt; 2) requesting a meeting; 3) announcing your availability for part-time, temporary and consulting work; 4) substitutes for resumes; 5) targeted mailings to employment agencies; 6) respnses to want ads; 7) guidance to references and information on your achievements; 8) introductions to hiring officials you do not know; 9) preparing your prospects for a phone call; 10) a response form that makes it easy for people to reply; 11) informing people who might help you find a "hidden" job; and 12) thank you letters informing people you found a job!
This is one of the best books in the hundreds I read for possible inclusion in the bibiography of Learning A Living; A Guide to Planning Your Career and Finding A Job for People with Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder and Dyslexia by Dale S. Brown.
