insurance handbook for the medical office.......2006-01-26
I was very disappointed in the 9th revision. Although the HIPAA compliance and e-commerce sections have been updated, the material in the workbook is exactly the same. That includes all the same editing errors from the last edition. I spend hours of my time "re-writing" these editions when they should be correct at publication. The same ICD-9 and CPT errors are still there. I am seriously thinking of changing books for my school.

Workbook for Pediatrics.......2007-07-18
Lame. This book does not help at all, i found it more confusing than the book, and if you read the book you would understand. This workbook doesn't help or follow along exactly with the textbook, i found it to be a waste of time.
Great reference.......2006-11-04

A Poorly Edited High-Level Introduction to the Industry .......2007-09-18
"Medical Billing and Coding Demystified" provides a very high-level introduction to the namesake industry. I was disappointed that the first 80 pages of the book provide no information about billing nor coding, opting rather to provide a background of the entire healthcare industry that, as a whole, is only useful to the reader if he/she has never been to a doctor in the United States. Given that the book has fewer than 200 pages of informative text, I argue that the book is fundamentally mis-titled.
The book is also poorly edited, missing various commas and hyphens that would enhance readability, not to mention the authors' collective credibility. In one instance, the word "loose" is used where the word "lose" is the intention. These types of errors may seem trivial, but I prefer that my professional refrences be more polished than this one appears to be.
A good starting point for revenue cycle management career.......2007-04-17
Medical office revenue cycle management in general and medical billing in particular can be excellent career choices for somebody interested in medical field and business administration but lacking formal medical education. This book helps making such a career choice decision by bringing up the complexities of medical billing and the challenges of getting the medical practice paid in time and in full. An overview of medical billing software is also an important addition to the book as no advanced billing operation today can exist without electronic claim processing. Other chapters in the book go beyond pure coding and billing functions, providing advice on finding a billing job and passing billing tests. By including end-of-chapter quizzes and a final exam, this book also makes sure you remember most of the important information acquired from reading it. A solid introductory text.
Some good info amid a lot of fluff.......2007-04-11
Perahaps 30 pages of the book have anything to do with medical billing or coding. The rest of the book presents a summary of everything from telephone etiquette to the duties of the office manager. This is really more of a sloppily written introduction to running the front end of a medical practice than it is a serious introduction to medical billing and coding. As such the book is really only of value to someone thinking of pursuing a job in medical practice management and just wants to get an idea of what it's all about. It's of little value for anyone actually trying to figure out how medical billing and coding actually works.

Customer Reviews:
Awesome Book!.......2003-05-14
Very informative. Great details. It goes over everything that a person should know.
Avoid this book!.......2003-03-23
I read this book as a required text for a Masters program in Forensic Science. Having read the previous reviews on the book, I was not expecting a particularly good textbook, but I do not believe that the other reviews do justice to how totally worthless this book is. I feel obliged to write a review of my own to balance the scales, as it were.
First off, the comment regarding the numerous typographical and grammatical errors in the book is grossly understated. I cannot believe that this book ever saw an editor's desk. I have randomly opened the book to several pages, and quickly found the following sentences, which I believe should illustrate my point:
- Most importantly [sic] by keeping the suspect away from the scene, any physical evidence found at the scene that originated from the suspect will link the suspect to the scene only at the time of the crime and not from the suspect having been returned to the scene for identification by victims or witnesses. p.53 (grammatical error, poorly written and confusing)
- Access [sic] the type of scene, the boundary of the scene, and the personnel and equipment needed. p 58. (should read, 'assess')
There are others, as well - alas, I have forgotten the sentence I came across while reading for class that contained a minimum of 5 errors. Yes. One sentence.
My most significant complaint, however, is that the book is simply not thorough. This is primarily due to the fact that it appears to have been written for idiots - all the major areas are touched upon, but there appears to be a fear that tackling them in detail would confuse people. So, instead, each technique is mentioned only in passing, leaving the reader with only a very vague overview of what goes on at a crime scene. Any person actually practicing in the field of forensic science is bound to be disappointed by its lack of depth, detail, and 'new' material. This likely also applies to anyone who has read any other books on the subject, whether they are active in the field or not.
For those who are interested in the subject and looking for a much better primer, I would suggest Fisher's 'Techniques of Crime Scene Investigation,' instead. While he does not have the friendly or chatty writing style that Lee has (the only thing going for Lee's book, incidentally), he is significantly more thorough. The book is also more well-regarded in the field, based on everything I have heard. This is not to say that Lee does not have a prominent name in forensics - quite the contrary. But, I would hate to think that anyone would purchase this book on his name alone. He should stick to spoken lectures, at which he is quite excellent.
amazing.......2003-02-04
i will like to ricieve a copy of this book.
Response to Review.......2001-12-28
Response by Marilyn T. Miller. I am compelled to respond to an earlier review. This book was a cooperative work of all three authors but was done under the direct guidance and care of Henry Lee. Crime scene investigation has been one of Dr. Lee's lifetime concerns. This book is the result of that dedication. The other authors owe a hugh amount of graditute to him for their participation in the effort.
Good... but not that good........2001-12-15
This book was an exceptional take-home package of crime scene processing information in an easy-to-read format. However, the chosen title for this work is egotistical and arrogant. There are a large number of typographical errors, but the book is actually quite useful. I must say, please wait for the second edition before purchasing this book.

Nursing book every nurse should have.......2007-06-29
This book helped me more than any other text book during nursing school. It takes a disease or disorder and breaks it down to the nuts and bolts. With every disease you get: a brief description of what it is, it's causes, gender and life span considerations, what to assess, primary nursing diagnosis, planning of care, common drugs used, what labs to look for, discharge guidelines, and what to document. This is all done in less than six pages on most diseases. This book saved me a tremendous amount of time, and I still use it in my nursing practice today. This book was my life line in nursing school, and I wouldn't have made it through without it. You won't regret getting this book. It can be a life saver.
Davis' Manual of Nursing Therapeutics for Diseases and Disor.......2000-07-06
This is a MUST HAVE book for all nursing student and health care professionals. The book is easy to read and provides all the essential details needed to properly care for patients. I utilize this book in all my classes. This is one of the best reference books that I have invested in.
