Great Buy.......2007-09-22
As strategy guides go, this one couldn't have been done much better. Graphically, the paper and coloring is great, but if you're expecting a ton of colorful Toriyama concept art you might be disappointed. As a reference it's one of the most useful I've purchased, and because Dragon Quest VIII is such a huge game, it really came in handy. Upon the first day using it I had already received alot of useful information I would have otherwise missed. Although not necessary to complete the storyline, this is an extremely useful resource for anyone trying to get the most out of their game.
another brady junk.......2007-05-17
just as most of their strategy guides, they use "no spoilers" as an excuse to NOT give you a lot of information. If you go by the stragy guide only, you will end up missing a lot of interesting places. There are much better walkthrus online, and free, too.
I buy a stragy guide for every RPG I own. The sole reason is to collect the artwork.
It's all right.......2007-04-11
I like the maps in the book and the alchemy list, but I was hoping for more of a walk-through.
dungeon_maps_only.......2007-02-27
this book simply dosen't tell you what to do. It provides maps and alchemy formulas only. For instance, I was in the libray about 20 hrs into the game. The book should have simply said what book to examine but it dosen't. The maps are okay, but the dungeons are usually smaller. The alchemy formulas are handy, but finding the items needed to make them are tedious. Right, now I have the ship and instead of telling you where to go, it provides a synapsis of the next town. Cross refercing it with the map it is usefull. Just be prepared to be frustrated that there are gaps in the walkthrough.
Keyword: Strategy GUIDE.......2007-01-05
This is not the usual spoiler-ridden, hand-holding walkthrough people have come to expect. This guide is just that: a guide. It gives you the maps, the items, the alchemy lists, the weapons/armors but it doesn't tell you every little thing you need to do. It tells you where treasures are, but not what's in them. It shows you who you need to talk to to forward the story but not how to go about doing it. It says where the quest occurs, but not what you need to do to complete it (though it will give you hints). This is what more guides should be like: supplementary material to flesh out the quest, not a book that plays the game for you.

Great guide for a great game.......2007-09-26
This is a really, REALLY detailed guide - perfect for such a deep and addictive strategy game. It has just about everything you could need to really blast the game apart. Only niggling issue is - some of the print is quite small (the book is paperback size) and hard to read especially late at night when my eyes aren't at their best! Heartily recommended if you like the game and want to really get into it - I bought it from Australia and had to pay an extra $20 for freight, but it is still worth every penny at that price.
Doublejump Rocks!.......2007-08-03
No really, they rock. Best strategy guides in the industry. Did I mention they rock?
DoubleJump Guides continue to Impress.......2007-06-05
I am blown away with every Doublejump guide I buy. The amount of detail they cram into these guides is insane. You can tell the writers at Doublejump have a passion for the games they create guides for, and a deep understanding of those games as well.
The presentation of this guide is excellent, as is every Doublejump guide. The paper feels thick, and the pages are colorful and easy to read. One thing I really appreciate is how they invert a section of the guide called "Spoilers" so you can be sure you won't flip a page and find out something you wish you hadn't!
As another reviewer has already said, I now consider buying games if they have a Doublejump guide. The extra price is well worth it, if only all guides could be this complete and well written!
Disagea 2 Strategy with a no-limit end-game........2007-03-01
Disagea 2 is a great game in many respects. It uses the old school boxes on a map , turn based system (which I happen to love) with a concept similar to games like Super Robot Wars or Final Fantasy tactics but with a twist. The characters are outrageous and there is no limit to how "powerful" you want to make your characters.. this can make for some crazy attacks with abnormous amounts of HP and crazy damage done if you choose to spend a of time with the game. All in all it's a fun game; one worth playing, with a high replay value.
Definately one of the best guides ever.......2007-01-15
I can hardly remember about a missing topic. It's detailed, complete and it has an open layout. If you like any of the previous Doublejump guides, you will be more than satisfied with that.
Book Description
Wed and widowed in one day, stunning socialite Amelia Sinclair’s honeymoon is anything but typical. Then again, neither is Amelia—rebellious and impulsive, marrying Robert Collingsworth was the one sensible thing she ever did. Now he’s dead and she must escape the vicious creatures stalking her—even if it means relying on a stranger. Well, maybe not a complete stranger. Amelia first glimpsed Gabriel Wulf years ago on the busy streets of London; since then he has haunted her dreams. But in the flesh, Gabriel is much more tantalizing than she ever dreamt, and much more complicated…
Gabriel Wulf, the strong one, the sensible one—the, and the curse that plagued them, were his only priorities; there was little time for women and none for love. Now, he must protect an enticing beauty—and not just from the dangers that prowl the woods around them. Gabriel has secrets, dark ones he’s sure Amelia must never know and could never understand. But she has already awakened his heart...and the beast within. Will Amelia be the key to his salvation, or the architect of her own demise?

The Cursed One- A Joyfully Recommended Title .......2007-08-13
Gabriel Wulf arrives at Collingsworth Manor just in time to save Lady Amelia Collingsworth from her husband. The mystery deepens when the only member of the household staff left, a young maid named Mora, tells a story of wolves who can turn into men in the forest around them.
Through the night Gabriel, Amelia and Mora fight to stay alive while they are stalked by the wild creatures until they are forced to escape; their destination is Wulfglen, Gabriel's familial estate. Gabriel is unsure if they'll make it there and if he can stop his growing attraction to Amelia.
Along the way Gabriel and Amelia give in to their attraction, but even if they make it to Wulfglen alive, Gabriel knows he can never be with Amelia now that the curse that effects all the Wulf men has struck him too. How could she accept him when he now resembles the very creatures they are running from?
The Cursed One had me on the edge of my seat from the first line to the last. As the danger escalates, so does the attraction between Amelia and Gabriel. The Cursed One is a dark, gripping story with engaging characters, a sensual romance, and a thrilling mystery.
The fight may be over for now, but danger still lurks. Perhaps we'll get to see the Wulf men or their sons or daughters again if the threat returns.

Third Book in Series is Cursed!.......2007-04-07
The exciting story and sexy Wulf brothers of London in the first two books I read in the series was lacking in this third book. I did not feel that Gabriel(another Wulf) brother and Amelia (his love interest) were fleshed out enough. Therefore I couldn't get behind these characters. Mora, the servant girl, was more interesting! Since this story is supposed to be about another Wulf brother I think I bit more information about his life and background were in order. Of course there was always brittle sparring between the Gabriel and Amelia and then every chapter or so Gabriel would some up her personality. 'her sense of humor' 'her kindness', blah, blah..yet I saw no indication of this! The plot didn't make sense to me. They were being chased by shapeshifters, yet Gabriel an Aelia seemed to outrun them on foot. The author spent much of the book repeating phrases as if she was out of ideas eg.'get to the safety of Wulfglen', 'our family is cursed','I must remain by myself'. Why not give us some flashbacks or fill out Gabriel's character! The ending got exciting for a few chapters, then fizzeled. Then it was back to 'we must get to the safety of Wulfglen' 'then I will be alone again, yadda, yadda, yadda. This 3rd instalment did nothing for me! It was the cursed one!
The Cursed One (Wild Wulfs of London).......2007-03-10
I loved this book. I love how Mrs. Thompson writes, I can see everything in vivid detail as I read the book.
Okay for werewolf romance.......2007-03-09
These books were not quite what I was looking to read. I read a short story by Ronda Thompson and liked it very much. I searched online and found her series of books on the Wulf brothers. Since I like to read a few books in a row from the same author, I ordered hers. The stories were sweet, but all the same. I guess I like my preternatural creatures a bit edgier and scarier. If you like romance novels, these are for you. Don't get me wrong. I read them all. The stories kept me reading, but I needed more excitement.
Book Description
A new age has dawned in the kingdom of Eileanan. But the flame-haired twins--Iseult the Scarred Warrior and Isabeau the apprentice-witch--must face their oldest fears...in the epic series that's not only "vividly depicted" (Romantic Times), but "a lot of fun" (Locus).
3rd in the bestselling fantasy series

Try To Stick With It.......2006-01-11
I first picked up this series a few months ago and have been enjoying reading each of the first 3 books. Although the entire series is obviously now available, I haven't read any further than Book 3 thus far.
This book is slightly more laborious than the first two, however equally as good because you get the impression that the scene is being set for the rest of the series.
There are a few little things that are beginning to distract me whilst reading though. Firstly, the way the character of Lachlan is so agitated by the presence of Isabeau. His hostility appears to now be out of proportion to the event that sparked it. Also, he seems to constantly be in a rage about something and although it cannot be easy ruling a kingdom (!), he is in danger of becoming very one-dimensional.
The only other thing that I find a bit distracting in this series, is that there are quite a number of place names and other names that also appear in other fantasy novels. It is hard to say who has borrowed from whom, if indeed that is the case, but sometimes I get the disconcerting feeling that there is not much new under the sun.
Overall though, a very enjoyable read and even though there are some slow places, by this stage you may have developed enough enjoyment of the series to trust that the author is setting the scene for upcoming novels and you will enjoy the series enough to stick with it.
A Solid continuation of the series.......2005-04-15
When I started reading these books, I was slightly worried that they'd blend together and I wouldn't be able to come up with separate comments on the individual books rather than the series as a whole. Fortunately, Forsyth has encorporated enough ideas that the books aren't really running together. I'm a little hazy at times on where one book ends and the next begins, but it's easy enough to flip to the back of the book and check. Each book is semi-independent of the others in that they do all continue the same story, but they have their own rising action, conflict, and resolution.
The first two books in the series dealt with restoring Lachlan to the throne of Eileanan, overthrowing Maya, the half-Fairge witch who ensnared his brother, the current, dying King, and has been forcing her will on the land. The Cursed Towers picks up after that, dealing with the other problems that plague Eileanan: the remaining supporters of Maya who want to put her daughter on the throne with her as regent, the Fairge who want to eradicate the humans from the land that they consider to be theirs, the mistrust and persecution of the Faerie races, and the Bright Soldiers coming in from the one area of Eileanan that never swore fealty to the King.
Of course, it doesn't deal with that all at once. All the problems are there, and they affect the actions of the characters, but only one issue can be handled at a time, and they're not all handled in this book. After all, there are three more books in the series.
I liked how this book divided the main characters not just with distance but also in the matter of their views. The conflicts between the various "good guys" added to the complexity and depth of the novel. I especially liked how Isabeau journeyed off on her own again to find herself, so to speak. Towards the end of the second book and definitely at the beginning of this book, I felt that she was becoming submerged in the fight to right the wrongs in Eileanan and also in her twin sister. I would have hated for Iseult and Isabeau to become mere extensions of each other rather than separate people with vastly different personalities, and I'm glad the Forsyth prevented that from happening. I also liked how she did it, because it was obvious that Iseult was the dominant twin personality-wise, and it wouldn't have seemed right if Isabeau had been able to resist the pull, especially given her emotional state. I thought the way it was worked was quite realistic.
Other than the dialect, which continues to grate on my nerves at times, the one thing that really bothered me about the book was just a tiny nit-picking detail. Lachlan's wings are the result of a spell that was cast upon him, transforming him into a blackbird. The Witches were never able to fully transform him back, and he was left with the wings. However, since they are the result of a magic spell, it doesn't seem to me that they could be passed to his child. There isn't anything in his genetic code that gives him wings; it's the result of magic. Still, the baby has wings as well. I'm sure that Forsyth came up with the baby's wings logically, but I didn't see it and that bothered me slightly.
Still, other than that I really enjoyed the book. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the first books in this series.
not a page turner.......2004-12-02
I puchased this book based on customer rating. I enjoyed the first two book, but this third book is not as good as the first two. It was a slow reading. After I read about 250 pages, I had to give it up. The story is good actually, but for some reason I'm not sure why, it made a slow reading. I agree with Katie's review above that
reading this book was rather a chore than a pleasure.
Recommend for Tad Williams fans, David Eddings/other,.......2004-10-04
As a self proclaimed book connisseur (or bibliophile)I'm ever hopeful when cutting my teeth on the first pages of a new book. With this novel from Ms Forsyth, I was at first repelled by the inclusion of all the o's this and 'o that, but found myself quite innured to it by the last chapters of the book.
In fact I would like to point out that this book can be read on it's own, without first reading bk.1 or bk.2. I had not read either the first or second and came fresh to this book, and did not find it in the slightest bit confusing as long as you suspend picking over the small details which are not particularly important, and wait they will be, lo and behold, revealed to you all in the goodness of time. --SO basically I'm saying, I really enjoyed this book--
It will now be my pleasure to go back and read the first two books in the series, and look forward to the 4th (& final?)novel.
The book doesn't stall and dwelling on boring things such as views and just how perfect the day was and dally on discriptions of exactly what people were wearing, and digress into exactly how people were feeling.
I like to be accorded the intelligence to discern from intelligent prose the mood and humor of the charcters.
Kate Forsyth should be commended on her portrayl of Maya the Ensorcellor because she has made her a truly compelling character.

Wow!.......2004-04-26
I swear, I haven't slept for days! I could not put this entire series down! The characters are well developed. You feel like you know them! You cry and laugh with them. I couldn't have asked for a better series!

Book Description
The top-ranked female poker player in the world reveals an insider's view of the World Series of Poker, a glimpse of her fascinating journey to the top, and keen analysis of winning hands
From the Introduction
I never set out to become a professional poker player.
I was schooled at St. Paul's School, where my father taught English; Columbia University, where I majored in psychology and English literature, and the University of Pennsylvania, where, at twenty-six, I was nearing completion of a PhD in psycholinguistics.
The afternoon before I was scheduled to meet the academic committee for a job interview, I drove my Honda from Philadelphia to New York, to see my mother. She wanted to have a little pre-celebration for a future that was mine for the taking, an academic career that would ooze prominence and prosperity.
Once inside the apartment, suddenly, a dam burst. A simple tin trash can stood below my mother's desk; I leaned over and hurled into it, again and again. The diagnosis? I was afraid to grow up.
That's when I ran away. Without a word of explanation, I fled to Montana, to marry a man I had never dated. And then, when money got tight and I felt beaten down by life in a leaky shack with minimal hot water, I got into my Honda and drove fifty-one frontier miles to the Crystal Lounge, in Billings. I sat down at the poker table, among thick- fingered cowboys and boozing rednecks, slipped off my shoes, tucked my bare feet under my butt, and as the dealer tossed me an Ace-Queen, I knew I was home.
This is where my life begins.
Annie Duke takes readers deep into the World Series of Poker as she wins millions, becoming the only woman to ever win two major tournaments in one year.

Stands Out From The Crowd.......2007-03-22
This is not one of the typical how-to hold'em books that have flooded the market. While there is a sizable amount of material focused on poker, it is not all hold'em either, it is really two great stories woven into one book.
The recounting of Annie's win of her WSOP bracelet in Omaha 8 is well told and interesting. There isn't too big a focus on hand-by-hand play. The tips she gives on this form of poker are great, too. This part of the book fueled my interest in expanding my poker prowess into this game.
The other story is Annie's bio. I was really intrigued to read about the roots she came from to the bracelet winning pro poker player she is today. And she includes the hard times in her life, too, which I found particularly poignant.
It is one of my favorite poker books, partly because it's not all poker, and one I'd recommend to anyone with a love of the game.
Who cares about her wasted life?.......2007-03-06
When Annie Duke dies, what are people going to say about her? "She had a messed up family life and neglected her four children, but she played a pretty good game of poker." Big deal. She's wasting her life, and this book is proof.
And the book is flawed. She describes a hand where she has a king-high strait, but claims to have an ace-high straight. Even amateur poker players like me immediately noticed that error. It's simply unacceptable in a book like this. The equivalent would be Michael Jordan mentioning the NBA's 35-second shot clock in his biography, when in reality it's a 24-second clock. It's laughable. When a professional poker player can't get the rules straight, I have to seriously doubt her credibility. Don't waste your time with this unless you want to be bored and become confused with the rules of poker.
Fun Read.......2007-02-09
Fun and entertaining read. This book is not a "How to Win" manual. Rather as the title suggests, a story on how Annie won. Fast and Easy read.
interesting but distant.......2007-02-06
Have you ever tried to tell a story to a friend or acquaintance, some personal epic filled with twists and turns, comedy and drama, thrills and chills and all sorts of gut clenching climaxes only to be met with a blank expression and a vaguely rhetorical "I guess you just had to have been there?" That was my reaction to this book.
It's an interesting insight to gambling culture and one woman's take on it, but after a while the two threads of the book (chapters alternate between her autobiography and her experiences at the World Series of Poker) begin to feel schizophrenic. Her history begins to read more and more like a recitation of rote facts while her descriptions of the hands she played in Vegas become more bombastic, which makes for an awkward reading experience. One chapter is a description of how she met this guy and they hung out and he moved back west and then she married him and followed him and so on while the next is a breathless explanation of how exciting it was when the three of clubs came up!
Given that this book is essentially focussed on her experiences in poker, this dichotomy is perfectly understandable, but towards the end of the book I was worn out by the constant yo-yoing of the narrative that I was simply relieved to be done with it.
Good read.......2006-11-25
A must-have for any poker fan. Annie Duke is one of the most visible figures in the game and this autobiography provides a great insight into her life told in her own words. She exposes almost every facet of her personality, from her continuing battle with anxiety to her unyielding drive to win. The only slight negative to this book is that she repeatedly builds herself up. She carries a tremendous chip on her shoulder. Annie also appears arrogant at times, which is one of the principal criticisms other poker players have of her. All told, however, this is yet another great poker book that belongs in the collection of a serious player.

Book Description
The Nobel PrizeDwinning author's great anti-Bolshevik diary of the Russian Revolution, translated into English for the first time, with an Introduction and Notes by Thomas Gaiton Marullo. A harrowing description of the forerunners of the concentration camps and the Gulag. --Marc Raeff
Customer Reviews:
Those bloody Reds........2007-09-05
Ivan Bunin would have you believe that the Ancient Regime in Czarist Russia was a kind, benovolent regime. Most historians know that is not the case. Bunin would like you to believe that it is. Bunin records his beliefs on the Russian Civil War. His observation was from Moscow and Odessa. He describes the brutality of the Reds and how they treated people. The Reds may have been more brutal, but both the Czarist and Communist regimes had very difficult problems with respecting human rights. Both killed people.
I found his memories of these days interesting. They should not be read as a disinterested observer of the new order. He was very vocal about the Reds, and viewed the Whites as a hope of mankind (which they were not). However, this story gives a view of the Russian Revolution from a member of a class that lost it all.
Footnotes out of Control.......2007-03-16
I don't recall ever reading a book where the footnotes left the strongest impression. However, "Cursed Days" by Ivan Bunin had that effect on me. The book itself is rather good. It is the author's diary during the period on and after the Russian Revolution. Bunin comes across as something of a monarchist who looks disdainfully on all the rabble that has created this cauldron of chaos. Frankly, I may have reacted the same way, especially given the observations he has compiled in "Cursed Days". I suspect most readers would sympathize somewhat with his perspective as well. I doubt there are many in the 21st Century who look back on the Russian Revolution as one of the major enhancements of the 20th Century (although, whenever there's an international economic summit, it seems to correspond with a convention individuals who probably DO think that highly of the Russian Revolution). Anyway, Bunin's day by day accounting of the facts, rumors, and impressions of the revolt are worth the price of the book. The book essentially comes in three parts; The author's observations in Moscow in 1918, his observations in Odessa in 1919, and excerpts of subsequent writing relevant to the topic of the Revolution. The first two segments generally carry an impression of the near-constant uncertainty that most people faced. There were threats of famine, murder, pogroms, counter-revolutionary backlash, etc.. Somehow, Bunin seems to make do throughout though there are times his own fears are candidly shared. Eventually, he is able to escape Russia although not all of his diary made it with him. I especially appreciated the accounts of the on-going civil war that is probably the least reported aspects of the Russian Revolution.
In regards to the footnotes that irritated me; they were at the bottom of nearly every page. Generally, I like fotenotes; at least the kind that supplement the information presented (as opposed to merely citing chapter and verse). However, the Translator and editor, Thomas Gaiton Marullo, somehow felt the need to overdo it. The best way to make the point is that he footnoted an explanation of every name, place, and periodical that was mentioned in the diary. Those accounted for roughly two-thirds of the footnotes and served as speed bumps to nowhere; at least they did for me. I didn't need to know the exact location of every town mentioned nor of the publisher or authors of every newspaper, magazine or book cited. I'll admit that about half of the names mentioned deserved a note or two but the other half could have remained in obscurity. I DID appreciate the comments on the various rumors that Bunin mentioned; Marullo lets us know which ones were true and which weren't. As a person who is in the habit of reading all footnotes on the bottom of the page, I was exasperated on how they interfered with the flow of the book. I would suggest that the reader would do better to just read the book and then go back over the notes later. You'll probably come away with a better impression of both (or at least a better impression than I had).
Bunin didn't call this book "Cursed Days" for nothing!.......1999-08-08
The previous customer review refers haughtily to the "hauteur" of Ivan Bunin, a "right-wing, upper class novelist." Say what? Bunin, a master of Russian prose, was understandably aghast as he watched the sudden, violent and senseless destruction of the glorious Russian culture. The reviewer sneers that "the folk, in Bunin's opinion, were ignorant, gullible, violent, dirty, and totally unfit to take a hand in government." Well, it sounds like Bunin got it just about right! Just look what the left-wing thugs ruling in the name of "the folk" did to Russia for the next 70 years.
Strangely, Soviet leaders decided that "Cursed Days" was unsuitable for consumption by "the folk." Hmmm... Talk about hauteur! Only in recent years was the publication of this amazing diary permitted in Bunin's homeland, and now - thanks to Thomas Gaiton Marullo's splendid translation - English-speaking readers can finally see that there were some people who weren't fooled in 1917. I just hope that modern readers will read Bunin's prophetic diary of those cursed days... and remember.

Picture of everyday confusion & fears of the 1917 revolution.......1998-08-28
This day-to-day diary of the confusion and fears that confronted those who lived through Russia's revolutions and their aftermaths in 1917-19 is well worth reading. However, it has its frustrations, especially a) the unremitting tone of hauteur by this right-wing, upper class novelist when confronted by the ascendant working class, and b) the editor's feeling that every rumor reported by Bunin, no matter how outlandish (St. Petersburg has fallen to the Germans; "The Red Army has been chased from Russia") requires his footnote assuring us that "The rumor was not true". Although both are very different in focus from this book, I much preferred Bulgakov's The White Guard, an autobiographically fictional account of his life during the same time period, with the same confusion, in Kiev, and Sukhanov's The Russian Revolution, 1917, an almost hour-by-hour description of the actual government takeovers in 1917.

THE EMPEROR'S NEW SWORD.......2006-01-21
When you hear the phrase "The Time of the Warring States" your first thought is probably going to be Japan circa 400 years ago. But as evidenced in this comic, Korea was going through the same troubles. The ruler of the land of Zhou, Moosunge, is supplied with the magical "Pachun Sword" by his scheming prime minister. While at first Moosunge plans to use the sword to protect his own land, his thoughts soon turn to conquering the whole country in a Hitler-like conclusion. Corrupted by the evil lies of the prime minister, the Emperor plans to kill his own brother, the expert swordsman Jaryoon, King of Hahyun. It also seems that the prime minister has enlisted demons in his hunt, which can brush off any attack Jaryoon can use. That's when he meets up with two siblings whose power might prove useful. Rey is the wielder of the "Pasa Sword", a sentient weapon that feeds on demons but can also possess its owner. Rey's bumbling sister Shyao chooses to fight with her magic spells rather than sullying her hands. The three will find that they have common enemies.
This book reminded me a lot of Ragnarok, another Korean production, but to me, Hui-Jin's artwork is superior. The action is a little hard to follow in the battle scenes at times, owing to the extravagant motion lines, but for the most part it is beyond criticism. The characters and plot have potential but are underplayed here since this is the first volume that merely has room to introduce the exposition with some fighting included. All in all, Chronicles is off to a good start.
PaSa Sword Rules!.......2004-12-03
Great Book! My fav.! My favrote caracter is, guess what, the PaSa sword! I like its atidtude. I also like Rey. I wish I could give it more stars! (weep)
Demons and warriors in feudal Japan.......2003-08-30
Chronicles of the cursed sword follows a pretty standard formula for a Manga of its type. The hero, Rey Yan, posseses a demon sword of awesome power and uses it to battle the forces of evil which are threatening the land.
While containing all the traditional elements this is not a bad effort and the artwork is very well done. The only problems the book has stems from the feeling that you have heard all of this before. There are several points of originality that I did enjoy such as the fact that the sword can posess Rey if he is not careful (a fact that he sometimes embraces cheerfully). The first book does hold the promise of a good series if the writer can break away from the genre and create some originaly.
Despite is failings this is a good read and I look forward to the second book's release in November.

The Really Cursed.......2007-09-21
The book starts off with action in a true den of sin, guns blazing, vamps dying and props to the men. They feel their testosteren flowing, but it isn't the regular type of machismo, this is the "holy" kick-butt type of machismo. The women of this piece are shocked and amazed that the men would go into the heart of Lilith's home, kill her pet and get out. "Lou" (short for Lucifer) is shocked by their boldness. There is a mole in hell, Eve and her group do damage and the Antichrist is born in a place I never would have guessed. Read and enjoy.
Trite, Tired and Terrible.......2007-09-18
I've followed this series faithfully and loved it so much I used any opportunity to talk it up to anyone who wanted to listen--and sometimes didn't! However, The Cursed was pure dreck. The comic interludes were awesome touches and so I delved into this book, expecting a rollicking ride the previous installments gave me. I was flabbergasted by the fact that Part I was filled with characters arguing and having sex--and the arguments were just stuff these characters have already argued about time and time again before. There was skanky villain sex galore and I grew tired of it because I've seen it before and it did nothing for the plot. In fact, after I struggled through this horrid book, I realized that none of these how paper thing these characters are. The same fights crop up again and again, the "love" triangles keep getting rehashed over and over, and the action is just so over the top. Where a good plot and well-placed sex once disguised the tepid characterizations, the horrible plot and meaningless sex revealed the series' weaknesses. I really, really doubt I'll continue with the series after this book.
Yuck!.......2007-09-14
Up to now I've really enjoyed this series. With this last one it seems as if she's forcing the story. I believe the series is over. It's always been difficult for me to get passed the dialect used. With this one it was harder than ever. To the point of detracting from the story. The plot seemed like it was the same as the last, just re-worked. I'm sorry to say I won't be buying or reading any more in this particular series.
It just keeps going..........2007-09-10
I declare when I open the book, a bright light of force opens up. I am trying to read another book until book 10 comes out but it just doesn't compare. L.A. Banks has an amazing imagination and has proven she has done her research to make her stories seem so real and interesting. Where does she come up with this stuff?
I love how Carlos keeps on evolving and LOVE Damali, she is the badest chic!!! You know evil will never win with those two on the scene. I loved how Eve is OUT for Lilith, her time will come! Lilith is going to make all of them kill her if the Devil doesn't first, she is such a conniving witch who ALWAYS gets away. All the characters are so lively, I can just picture. Oh, how I wish somebody would make this a movie series and I mean exactly what transpires cause it would be awesome to see the impossible happen!!
One Happy Reader.......2007-08-27
If you are a true fan of Damali and her crew, LA Banks does not disappoint once again. This books takes the fight of light versus dark to the next level by the tenth power! A real page turner and leaves you angry that you have to wait for the next book. I hightly recommend this book because it has so much depth that it's hard to believe that it ficition.
