Elizabeth, a beautiful princess, lives in a castle and wears fancy clothes. Just when she is about to marry Prince Ronald, a dragon smashes her castle, burns her clothes with his fiery breath, and prince-naps her dear Ronald. Undaunted and presumably unclad, she dons a large paper bag and sets off to find the dragon and her cherished prince. Once she's tracked down the rascally reptile, she flatters him into performing all sorts of dragonly stunts that eventually exhaust him, allowing her to rescue Prince Ronald. But what does Prince Not-So-Charming say when he sees her? "You smell like ashes, your hair is all tangled and you are wearing a dirty old paper bag. Come back when you are dressed like a real princess." (At least he has the courtesy not to mention that the princess's crown resembles a dying sea anemone.) In any case, let's just say that Princess Elizabeth and Prince Ronald do not, under any circumstances, live happily ever after. Canadian author Robert Munsch celebrates feisty females everywhere with this popular favorite, and Michael Martchenko's scratchy, comical, pen-and-ink drawings capture the tongue-in-cheek quality of this read-aloud crowd pleaser. (Ages 4 to 8) --Karin Snelson
Book Description
The Princess Elizabeth is slated to marry Prince Ronald when a dragon attacks the castle and kidnaps Ronald. In resourceful and humorous fashion, Elizabeth finds the dragon, outsmarts him, and rescues Ronald --- who is less than pleased at her un-princess-like appearance. Full color throughout.

read it before you buy it.......2007-09-12
All the hype made it sound like a book filled the sort of things you would want your girls to take to heart- except that the story line is weak and the writing lacking...not worthy of our time....
Great For All Girls.......2007-05-26
Get this book for all little girls (and not so little girls). Our little princesses should not dream about marrying princes. This book is about a princess who saves the prince, only to realize that he's not good enough for her.
The most AWESOME GIRL POWER fairy tale ever!!!.......2007-05-19
I was introduced to this story by my daughter's kindergarten teacher many years ago, and it made me laugh!
Since then, I've read and recommended this story to countless Girl Scout leaders and parents...it's the ultimate "Have confidence in yourself" fairy tale, and every 5 year old girl should memorize it!!! No more damsels in distress waiting to be rescued!
Buy this book and pass it on to future generation!
Corny, but cute.......2007-05-14
My kids thought this book was rather silly, but they liked it, so...
Princess Power!.......2007-05-06
For all of you parents, guardians, and supportive "others" in a little girl's life, PLEASE beg, borrow, or buy this book for her! Every princess needs to know that they can be strong, and it's OK to say No.

Customer Reviews:
A wonderful way to remember pi.......2007-01-25
I feel the age range given on the website should not be ages 4-8. This is appropriate for 8 and up. That said, my 5 year old enjoys it as just a fairy tale and I would not attempt any "teaching" to him. He listens as I read it to my older daughters and maybe it will seep in so when he's old enough to begin measuring, he will easily grasp the concepts.
This is a wonderful book - good illustrations and a clever story. The author works the math part in without it being cumbersome. A few times through this book and your child will have a good grasp of pi. At the least, it will be a good memory trigger if he/she needs help in class.
Great Book .......2007-01-09
This is a great book to teach kids about the number pi. This is a book that makes math fun and gets kids interested in learning math.
This book is a BLAST!.......2005-07-23
My kids love this book! They range in age from an 11 yr old girl to a 3 yr old boy and they all enjoy it! My son loves the story and the knights and adventure. And, he is learning something in the process. My older kids enjoy the story also but on a different level and it also reinforces what they have already learned! What a great concept! I can't wait for more to come out! We already own all 4!
Great for Middle School kids.......2005-04-11
I have use this book in my middle school classroom. The kids enjoy it. Yes, it is silly but heck so are middle school kids! Since reading the book and discussing it, the kids have a much better understanding of what pi really is, instead of just saying about 3.14.
Discovering PI in a mid evil kind of way........2004-11-16
Radius has to discover PI in order to save his father, Sir cumference from the evil curse of the fire breathing Dragon. I read this book to a fourth grade class and they really got a kick out of it. They wanted to learn pie along with Radius through his adventures to conquer the curse. This is a creative way to introduce a math lesson to children. There is even places to stop and let the kids try a couple problems. The activities include measuring and dividing. Teachers this is a must have.

Book Description
Far away on Wilde Island, Princess Rosalind is born with a dragon claw where her ring finger should be. To hide the secret, the Queen forces her to wear gloves at all times until a cure can be found, so Rosalind can fulfill the prophecy to restore the family to their rightful throne.
But Rosalind’s flaw cannot be separated from her fate. When she is carried off by the dragon, everything she thought she knew falls apart. The dragon sees beauty in her talon where her mother saw only shame, and Rosalind finally understands what her mother has truly denied her.
Carey has written a stunning portrayal of the complex relationship between a mother and daughter in a lyrical novel sure to thrill readers who love fantasy—and those who don’t.
Customer Reviews:
Well written Adventure story.......2007-08-26
A well written YA book. It was not dumbed down like some YA books are, the writing was smooth and kept the reader interested in the lead character.
The book tells a story of a princess, the 21st decendent of Queen Evaine, King Arthur's younger sister. The family was banished to the island when the Queen married a men that her father did not approve. The legend was that the 21st Queen will bring peace and honour back to the name of Pendragon.
Our heroine is the princess and only she and her mother know of her terrible secret. The poor girl has a Dragon's claw for her ring finger. Her mother keeps it hidden at all times under golden gloves, and goes to great lengths that the secret is never discovered. When the princess meets the female dragon, and later the dragon is killed, she is kidnapped by the dragon's mate to care for the pips (baby Dragons)
The dragon's see beauty where her mother only saw shame, and it is at the end of the story that the dragons give her the gift of Peace between Human and Dragon.
The adventures are exciting and the book should be recomended to any young Dragon Lover.
Absolutely a great book..........2007-07-18
We gave this book to our 13 year old daughter for her birthday this year. Her words when I asked how it was were, "The most awesome book ever!" This is coming from an avid reader... she breezed through this 302 page book in just three days. Right now she is reading the Bartimaeus Trilogy, but says she would like to read more by this author in the near future.
Fantastic read for young adult.......2007-07-18
In this young adult fantasy, Rosalind's fate was written in the stars, read by Merlin, some 600 years before she was born. Rosalind's ancestor, Evaine, was the younger sister of King Arthur. Evaine married an outlaw, was banished to Wilde Island, and erased from family history.
Three things are said of the twenty-first queen of Wilde Island; "She shall redeem the name Pendragon. End war with the wave of her hand. And restore the glory of Wilde Island."
The way her mother sees it, with England in the midst of civil war Rosalind will marry Prince Henry, future king of England, thereby fulfilling all aspects of the prophecy. But what if Rosalind and Henry don't get along? Not that they've even heard from the Queen of England, though they assume she is aware of the prophecy. Then there's Rosalind's ring finger. It's a dragon's claw. So far she and her mother have hidden it behind golden gloves, but that won't work forever. They MUST find a cure soon--a cure that is hard to find when potential healers aren't told what the exact problem is.
When an envoy from England comes to Wilde Island, things start looking up a little, especially after they slay the dragon that has been harassing the Island forever. What should be one of the most triumphant moments in their history turns horrifying when the dragon's mate returns to punish the people, and takes a special interest in Rosalind. Before long, Rosalind's life will never be the same, and it doesn't look like the prophecy could ever be fulfilled.
There is so much more to this book! So many more levels and layers to the story! Rosalind may be a Princess with a dragon's claw in a faraway time and place, but her relationship with her mother is something you could see in anyone's life. Her desire to be normal and accepted are the same things every teenager experiences. So while the circumstances aren't something we experience everyday, the people in them, and their reactions to them, are completely realistic and relatable.
Armchair Interviews says: Part fairy tale, part mythology, part legend, all around fantastic!
Dragon's Keep a keeper.......2007-06-29
"What a great story. The ending is unexpected." I am quoting the words of one of my 5th grade students. He requested this book as his prize for reading 200 books this year. He could not stop talking about the story. Based on his response I would recommend this book for young adults.
NOT BAD.......2007-06-09
THIS IS A GOOD BOOK AND I READ IT IN TWO DAYS, BUT IT'S MORE OR LESS LIKE ROSALIND'S DIARY AND I FIND THOSE KINDS OF BOOKS DULL. THERE NOT MUCH ROMANCE IN THIS (IF YOU HAVE READ DRAGON LOVERS YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN, IF YOU HAVE NOT READ DRAGON LOVERS YET READ THIS BOOK FIRST THEN DRAGON LOVERS). THERE'S NOT MUCH EXCITEMENT UNTILL THE LAST THREE CHAPTERS AND THERE'S NO VILLAN UNTILL THE LAST FOUR. AND F.Y.I. THE DRAGON CUTS HIS EGGS FROM HIS MATES STOMACH THEN TAKES THEM HOME.

Cimorene, princess of Linderwall, is a classic tomboy heroine with classic tomboy strengths--all of which are perceived by those around her as defects: "As for the girl's disposition--well, when people were being polite, they said she was strong-minded. When they were angry or annoyed with her, they said she was as stubborn as a pig." Cimorene, tired of etiquette and embroidery, runs away from home and finds herself in a nest of dragons. Now, in Cimorene's world--a world cleverly built by author Patricia C. Wrede on the shifting sands of myriad fairy tales--princesses are forever being captured by dragons. The difference here is that Cimorene goes willingly. She would rather keep house for the dragon Kazul than be bored in her parents' castle. With her quick wit and her stubborn courage, Cimorene saves the mostly kind dragons from a wicked plot hatched by the local wizards, and worms her way into the hearts of young girls everywhere.
While the characters are sometimes simplistically drawn, adults and children will have fun tracing the sources of the various fairy tales Wrede plunders for her story. Dealing with Dragons is the first book in the Enchanted Forest Chronicles, and most young readers will want to devour the entire series. (Ages 10 and older) --Claire Dederer
Book Description
Cimorene is everything a princess is not supposed to be: headstrong, tomboyish, smart. . . .
And bored. So bored that she runs away to live with a dragon . . . and finds the family and excitement she's been looking for.
Customer Reviews:
One bored Princess is about to have a ball!.......2007-04-11
Princess Cimorene is the daughter to the king of Linderwall...where the knights keep their armor polished for show considering nobody's seen a dragon there in years...
Cimorene HATES it at Linderwall. And she wants to do things, not learn exactly how and when she's supposed to scream if someone decides to come and kidnap her. Cimorene takes classes behind her fathers back for extreme fun. She tries fencing...until her father makes her stop. She tries cooking...until her father stops her. She tries magic...until her father stops her. You get the pattern. If things aren't already bad enough her parents are making her marry Prince Therandil. YUCK!
"I'd rather get eaten by a dragon," Cimorene muttered.
"That can be arranged."
With the advice of a "not" enchanted frog she ends up at a dragons cave and before you know it she's the dragon Kazul's princess. And also before ya know it she's on an adventure.
What happens on that adventure? Well...
She meets a powerful witch, a stone prince, snotty princesses, a kind princess, annoying wizards, mean dragons, and a talking frog.
She finds plants that hurt dragons, a dragons magical stone, and a fire proof spell...she's found A LOT of adventure!
Morgan from Creston.......2007-03-07
The book Dealing with Dragons is one of the most fantastic books I have ever read. It held my interest and made me feel good. Between adventure and happiness, Patricia C. Wrede catches your attention and makes you want to read it over and over again.
In the book, the characters were really willing to go and figure out why wizards have been snooping around the Mountains of Morning. That's one of the reasons I liked this book so much. My favorite characters are Cimorene and Kazul. As Cimorene runs away from the castle she meets a kind dragon named Kazul, who lets Cimorene live with her. Later in the book wizards secretly working with a dragon named Worag, who wants to be the king of dragons and is trying to get rid of Cimorene and her friends. In this it was a wild adventure for princess Cimorene.
The book Dealing with Dragons was not a boring book. The author Patricia C. Wrede was able to hold the interest of the reader throughout the story. The description of scenes was really descriptive and you could picture them in your head. There were sad and funny parts throughout the book. One of my favorite parts was when Cimorene and Kazul visited Morwen the witch. Cimorene rode on Kazuls back while she was flying over the tall trees. I was imagining that I was on Kazul too.
After reading this book, I learned many different things. I also couldn't believe how good this book was. The major situation was trying to figure out what the wizards were up to. This book will leave you wanting to read it over and over again.
Dealing with Reveiws.......2007-03-01
Dealing with Dragons, by Patricia C. Wrede, is really a joking, enjoyable tale of a fantasy world with a girl trying to escape normal life for a princess. Cimorene is princess of Linderwall, and when she's fed up with normal princess-ing and heads off, she gets involved with tons of dragons, witches, wizards, a jinn, talking birds and more. Cimorene loves fencing, magic, cooking, economics, Latin, and she can't do any of them because "It's NOT done". I'd say if this was real, it'd be in the early 1500`s. This really can absorb you and it seems you just have to finish it before anything else and I really enjoyed it. I hope you do too.
An Amazing Book!!!.......2007-02-28
Wizards, dragons, magic, and a run away princess. If you like those things then you will love "Dealing With Dragons" by Patricia C. Wrede. When Cimerone runs away to a little house in the forest, that a toad told her to go to, she meets some scary dragons. But almost before the dragons ate her, another dragon came and saved her. And now she works for the dragon, Kazul. When one of the dragons killed the king, all the dragons have to have a challenge to see who well be the next king. Will Kazul become the new king or will she die trying?
I think the theme for this book is that just because some people don't like something doesn't mean you shouldn't like it. Because some people thought Cimerone was crazy that she was living with a dragon and she didn't care about what they said. I think Patricia wrote this book to tell about people that have everything they could ever have and all they want is freedom to do what they want.
"That doesn't make it proper, dear," Cimerone's mom said. Cimerone never wanted to be a princess. She liked to do fencing, magic, and cooking. But she never liked being a princess. I would recommend this book to people that love to read about fantasy's and adventures. Also if they like dragons, witches, and magic they would like this book! I hope you will read it and like it just as much as I did!
A fun and enchanted book!.......2007-01-30
This book is great! It is for everyone! It is about a princess named Cimorene. She does not like being a princess. She does secret magic lessons until her parents find out. Then they try to get her to marry but she does not want to. She runs of and finds some dragons. She goes with one named Kuzul. She makes friends and finds an exciting new life. But something evil is about...I'm not going to tell the end but its great! You should read Dealing with Dragons, Book one of the Enchanted Forest Chronicles.

Book Description
Those wicked wizards are back--and they've become very smart. (Sort of.) They intend to take over the Enchanted Forest once and for all . . . unless Cimorene finds a way to stop them. And some people think being queen is easy.
Customer Reviews:
244 pages of bitchiness.......2007-02-08
I loved the first 2 books. And this one has some good stuff in it. But every single character is bitchy throughout the whole book!
It is funny to have, say, a bitchy cat, wizard, witch, magician, princess, rabbit, dragon or whatever. But they can't all be bitchy all the way through the book!
Amazing series.......2006-09-25
All the Enchanted Forest Chronicles are so much fun! Definitely at my top of Harry Potter fan recommendations. They're just such an amusing read; I even teach with them. Don't forget to read "The Frying Pan of Doom."
Love the characters!.......2006-09-19
Mendenbar and Cimorene, now married for just over a year, are celebrating the news of their first baby on the way when witch Morwen and sorcerer Telemain arrive on their moat-step with some disturbing news and a 6 foot blue rabbit/donkey named Killer. The wizards are, once again, up to no good. Upon investigating the source of Killer's unusual size, Morwen discovered more brown patches where the wizard staffs had leached magic out of the Enchanted Forest. Since Telemain and Mendenbar had repaired that particular problem, the issue was determined urgent. Once again a journey is required - this one is to retrieve the sword that is tied magically to the Enchanted Forest so that the wizards don't drain the forest of its magic - and its life. Morwen, Telemain, Cimorene, Kazul, Killer, and two of Morwen's cats embark down a dangerous road to save the lives of the inhabitants of the Enchanted Forest. Great sense of humor and dialog - although the timeline sometimes takes getting used to.
The sword is gone .......2006-05-22
Well. my story is Calling on Dragons. Its about wizards trying to take over; so they steal the sword. They are trying to get it back. Well Kazul , King Mandabar, Cermany, Tellmin, and Moren are at it again. Now they are after the sword.
My favorite part was when I found out that the wizards go through mouse holes. I think doing that would be cool. The wizards go through mice holes to steal the sword. They did make it, and they did steal the sword. That is my favorite part.
A Perfect Combination.......2005-08-06
I truly am delighted with this book and the others in the series! They are a truly perfect combination of mystery, magic and mayhem!
I've told my friends about them, and they love them too!
Product Description
Enter Alypium, a hidden world within our own where our old knowledge of magic is kept and strange and fantastical creatures abound. It is a beautiful and mystical place, but things are caving in. The king is hypnotized and his castle turned on its side. The very Substance that holds things together has gone awry, and whispers tell of evil plans to destroy everything. Twelve year old Erec Rex has been yanked out of the world as we know it and thrown unwillingly into this mess. As he learns how to get by in this strange world he also discovers some truths about himself ... and must learn the power of trust and love in order to save his mother, and all of Alypium. In this stunning tale packed with action, humor, a colorful cast of characters, and a riveting plot, debut author Kaza Kingsley brings us into a world of danger and excitement. For Erec, it is a world that is eerily familiar and inevitably intertwined with his future. To the reader, it is a fantastic escape that shall be taken again and again.
Customer Reviews:
Erec Rex: Excellent .......2007-08-06
I picked Erc Rex up at Barnes and Noble for no real particular reason. I started reading it after I had finished the last Harry Potter book. Though it took me about three chapters to get into the book, after I did it really flowed. Ms. Kingsley is quite talented and imaginative. I had never heard of someone using remote controls for magic in place of say a wand. When you look at her world she created as a whole it makes a person smile, in her world anyone can use / learn magic. Even though its fantasy its nice to think of such a place.
Erec is a boy of 12, and he has 5 siblings. The family is quite poor and has to move around. The day Erec's mother goes missing is the day his life changes and his adventure starts. I look forward to reading the 2nd installment in Erec's adventures this fall.
Engaging fantasy.......2007-06-14
At first, I thought this book was a little too much like Harry Potter but the author creates a complex reality and mythology that captured my imagination. It whetted my appetite for the sequel as it left many unanswered questions to ponder. This is just the book I needed to relax and get away from the everyday cares. I will definitely read the next installment!
Erec Rex, the Dragons eye.......2007-04-20
Erec Rex the Dragon's Eye
Kaza Kingsley
Erec Rex the Dragon's Eye is a fast paced cliffhanging "I want to read more" novel. It is similar to the Harry Potter novels; however I liked this book more. One reason is because it isn't as big, there are not as many hard to understand words, and there are only three books in the series. This book is perfect for readers that like stories about mystical places and dragons.
Have you ever not known about your past? This is Erec's situation. Erec's dad isn't in the story and his mother has disappeared. Erec is quite wise for age, and he is aided by his "cloudy thoughts". Bethany, a girl that has the gift of mathematics shares Erec's adventures. Bethany can also get annoying at times, but is quite friendly.
There is a cave that Aoquesth the dragon lives in. He is free and lives in a cave full of treasures. He also owns a cape of one of the foolish castle workers. Aoquesth tells Erec that he has a great power and will use it for good not, evil. Aoquesth also tells Erec that his father cared so much about him that he left a dragon's eye for him with the Aoquesth. A dragon's eye and an unthinkable amount of power, and one of the power's is to see into the future.
This book is so exciting and with so many daring feats. I love it! I think that this book would be great for Harry Potter lovers. Kids that want to read Harry Potter novels but aren't strong enough readers, will enjoy these books. I'm looking forward to reading the second book when it becomes available.

This book was fun and exciting up until the end.......2007-03-15
This book was fun and exciting up until the end. Instead of leaving me breathless with anticipation for the next book; it left me befuddled with a great big, "HUH?" The book was so well paced until the end and then we jumped from the party, to home, to the past...boom, boom, boom...too many scenes, too little information.
I found myself leafing back through the pages to see if any had stuck together and I had missed something important. No luck.
My 12 year old is reading it next. Maybe he can explain it to me.
Great read.......2007-02-01
Stories from mythology have always facinated me. There is something timeless about otherworldly powers and setting tasks before mere mortals. Erec Rex is a well-written addition to the mythological tales I grew up reading. I read the whole thing in one sitting and would recommend this book to any one who wants to spend an lazy Saturday curled up in a chair with a great story. Once I finished it, I gave it to a young friend who could not put it down.

Book Description
“A dragon darkens our dells. A witch haunts our woods. Bandits roam our moors” . . . King Stromgard swept on. “In the tradition of so many monarchs, I offer my daughter’s hand in marriage and half my kingdom to the prince who can rid us of these evils, restoring peace and prosperity to our realm.”
And so the contest in the Kingdom of Greeve begins. But Princess Margaret is not your traditional princess. Meg firmly objects to her parents’ giving her away, and she certainly has no intention of remaining in the tower where she is sequestered. Instead, she sets out to win the contest herself by enlisting the help of her good friend, her loyal maid, an eager guardsman, a young wizard, and a tenacious witch. Does Meg find her distinct place in the kingdom, or is she doomed to fulfill her royal duties?
Kate Coombs weaves a magical tale full of pesky princes, enchanted frogs, a beady-eyed scarf, and invisibility juice – a tale of wonder, but a story familiar to all who struggle to find their own place in the world.
Customer Reviews:
Amazingly enjoyable.......2006-12-25
I adored this novel. I have read dozens of books that have redone the classical fairy tale setting, but this is the best one I have ever had the pleasure to open. Coombs has a simple, yet elegant and easy to read writing style. The character interaction is hilarious, and the heroin is very likable and strong. Wonderfully done Kate Coombs! I hope there is a sequel.
A New Favorite.......2006-09-19
RUNAWAY PRINCESS isn't your grandma's fairy tale. The princess in the tower? Yeah. She has no intention of staying there. And all those witches, bandits and dragons? Misunderstood. Kate Coombs gives us a fresh take on the well-known fairy tale world with clever touches, endearing characters, and unique twists, all adding up to a delightful and entertaining read.
Following closely on the heels of Coombs' lovely debut book THE SECRET KEEPER, RUNAWAY PRINCESS does not disappoint. It's sure to become a favorite of discerning readers everywhere.
WOW! You got to read this!.......2006-09-19
This book was awsome! In my English class we had to pick a book for pleasure reading. I choose this one and believe me, it was PLEASURE reading. I couldn't put it down! The characters are so real and you find yourself rooting for them. This book is a clever twist on any fairy tale you've ever known. You'll find yourself laughing out loud and counting down the minutes till you can read it again. The twists, turns and halarious plot and characters make "The Runaway Princess" a must read!
Priceless Princess.......2006-08-13
Kate Coombs has done it again! Once again this gifted author takes a fairy-tale world and stands it on its head. Princess Meg stands up to her father and the Kingdom of Greeve will never be the same again. All the ingredients for a delicious romp through a world of wicked witches and fantabulous frogs await those clever enough to pick up this story. A winner!

Customer Reviews:
A great dragon book!.......2007-03-27
I'm a 7 year old kid who loves dragons, and this is my second favorite dragon book. (Ignis is my favorite. Ignis ) I like this one because the pictures are cool and the dragon looks great. This is one of my favorite books. I like it because the dragon is a good character and the prince looks better than in most books.
Not the Same..........2005-11-10
The original 1987 release of this book is worth 5 stars, make no mistake. The artwork is still worth 5 stars.
And when I saw it was out again, in a new version, I didn't look past the pictures before I bought it and ran it home.
Then I started reading. And I knew in my bones it couldn't be the same book. I would never have treasured a book that read this badly. So I compared it to a library copy of the original.
Though the authors are the same for this new release and for the original release, most of the text has changed, and for the worse in every case.
Many readers, working only from old memories (If they've seen the book before at all) will only notice that Childe Wynde has been renamed Prince Richard. The new version is shorter, but clumsier. the writing that used to flow ends up awkward. It also talks down to the reader, explaining and repeating itself where the original didn't.
One illustration has also been replaced (The climax page, which is also used as the new cover art) with a similar but inferior version. The rest are not only left alone, the colours are redone, a bit fresher and crisper. I'll grant them that.
Look for the original release. Pay more if you have to. The original is worth it. This is a cheap imitation.
A traditional English fairy tale revolving around dragons, wicked stepmothers, a prince and evil enchantment.......2005-07-06
Take a traditional English fairy tale revolving around dragons, wicked stepmothers, a prince and evil enchantment, add gorgeous paintings by David Wiesner, and retell the package for young readers with rudimentary skills and you have all the elements of a favorite book in The Loathsome Dragon. The story has the same basic structure but is more accessible to the younger audiences, here.
Not Loathsome at all!.......2005-05-28
I was so pleased to see this book back in print!
I raised my children on a healthy diet of traditional fairytales and beautiful art. This book was one of their favorites. We started searching for it when the grandchildren began to arrive, but couldn't find it. Somewhere along the course of years our copy had disappeared and though everyone in the family knew the tale by heart, we couldn't remember the title. (In our house it was simply known as "The Dragon book"--as though it were the ONLY book about a dragon.)
I stumbled across the Amazon listing and had it on my wish list for a couple of months before it was actually released. When the Amazon copy arrived, I sat down to read the cherished story and was transported not only to "Once upon a time", but to a more recent time when my children and I would read the book together and closely examine the pictures for a wealth of details.
This is a lovely book. David Wiesner's art is wonderful and the tale is told in a straightforward manner that would do a medieval bard proud. If you love fairytales or dragons, you will not be disappointed by the Loathsome Dragon.

We love the Good Knight!.......2007-02-19
We've been enjoying this series starting with Good Night, Good Knight and this is another good one but not our favorite (the other 3 are a little better: Good Night, GK, Get Well, GK, and Take Care, GK). The Little Dragons try to make a special birthday for the Knight but with predictably messy results. She found the story silly and fun. We would recommend all of the Good Knight books
