Best Book on Vegas for guys period.......2007-03-22
I just got back from my first trip to vegas and this book guided me every step of the way. From the best place to stay or eat to the top strip clubs and bars it covers it all in a very unique set up compared to all other travel guides. I wanna keep it simple so if your a guy who is going to vegas to for a "guys weekend" this book will greatly improve you trip!
Not just for men!.......2006-05-23
While this book definately isn't for families it can be applied to travelers other than just men. I just bought this book (I'm a 32 year old married woman)and found some great advice that can apply to anyone that is looking to let loose and have some fun.
I am soon traveling to Vegas with my husband and two girlfriends. The information on the bars and clubs was extremely helpful. We also plan to hit a strip club while there and this book helped us decide. While I've been to several local strip clubs, I have never been to one in a big city and it outlines some of the basics that are different than what I'm used to.
I have been to Vegas 4 other times in the past couple years, but this will be my first trip that is completely social. This will be an exceptional tool to have.
Great book, a must for Vegas.......2006-05-11
Hiram Norman and Dave DeMontmollin you wrote a great book.
This book is a must for a guy's weekend in Vegas. Plan your weekend in order that you make the most out of your stay in Vegas.
These guys tell you where to stay, where to go, how to meet & have a great time in Vegas.
Very insightful, very funny, very informative.
Interesting and Useful...But Not For Everyone.......2006-04-27
If you are a guy, and are a guy who is only in Vegas for one thing, women, you will enjoy this book. Whether you are a bachelor, a soon-to-be-married gentleman, or a "Night at the Roxbury" woman hound, you will do just fine with this, as it is just what you need. I do mean, need.
I can think of a guy I used to work with who considers himself "all that" and would go to Vegas JUST for the ladies and the clubs. I, on the other hand, enjoy ALL facets of the city.
While I love to read anything informative, this book teaches you things such as how to manage your money. Uh, watch the Travel Channel's shows on Vegas. It teaches you how to gamble. Again, refer to the TC or play in those online rooms. Those are both free. Finally, the book actually teaches someone, or tries to do this, how to eat a steak and how to enjoy a buffet. So, I guess this is a book notorious for the obvious. Or, maybe the ideal clientel has never experienced many elements of life.
I know I say this as someone who has lived just south of Vegas for a year, and I have visited both Laughlin and Vegas many times, but I am sorry. This book is worth nothing more than a read at B'n'N or Borders. And trust me, you won't need more than an hour, as a quick skim is all that is needed.
My one positive note, though, is that, even though I laughed at both the topics in this book and at those who probably think this literature really is the answer to finding a great time in this city, the information about hotels is truly useful. I was indeed happy that I read that section because I followed DeMontmollin's advice and chose a room at the Flamingo. Upon arriving at my hotel, I quickly understood his advice that this hotel was for the cultured and not for the "clubber," I was pleasantly surprised. This book offers a nice explanation of each "type" of hotel, as does it succeed in locating where you want to go with what you will need to expect to travel (walk or cab) to get there.
With a "3," I offer a mixed review. Very good at times, unforgetable at others. If you find this book for cheap on Amazon, less than three dollar, it will be worth the read. Otherwise, just use the three dollars in gas and drive to one of the main bookstores. Bring a notebook, and set aside one hour to jot down key ideas. Heck, just place what you want (phone numbers, ket notes) in your cell. Then, when you get to Vegas, you won't have to worry about looking like a tourist or an obvious dud. Yes, dud.

Little Black Book.......2006-03-22
Overall the book was ok. Honestly I was expecting a bit more from a so called "Vegas Insider". It did have a few helpful tips, and the rating systems for the hotels and Gentleman's Clubs were helpful in selecting where to stay and what to do. I would not pay more than $10 for it again, and it should be updated yearly, if for no other reason than things change so often in Vegas.

It was so good I bought 3!.......2007-08-10
I hate self help books. I hate relationship books. I hate fluffy new ager books.
And so on a trip to a New Age-y Bookstore I randomly found this book and flipped to the section of the guy Im after. Dead on. I laughed out loud and was surprised to find this book was none of those things I hate; it was actually funny, blatantly honest, and accurate.
How do you know its accurate? Try yourself. I looked mine up and I was like 'If this said 'she' it would have me spot on!' And trust me its not something one would aspire to (being flakey, being paranoid, etc).
I picked the book up again and switched to the section on someone I'd had issues with for years. Boy if only Id had this book back then because it was SPOT ON!!! The best thing is that even though it tells you HOW your guy is; it tells you how to get him, drive him crazy, and win him back. Basically mess with his mind. Excellent.
I loved this book so much I bought myself a copy, my sister a copy, and my best friend a copy. I've never been so excited over a book! I hope to spread the word. Good stuff. I hope Miss Kosarin writes another book like everyone said Id love to hear what she has to say about the women!
My friends and I really enjoyed this book.......2007-05-19
Other than entertaining, it was extremely accurate! I loved it!
Oh, you are a dear, Kosarin.......2006-11-17
I think this is the second book I have by Kosarin. This one made me laugh my self silly on a rather awful day. Nothing like pining over a man for years, wondering what is wrong with myself and then finding out that he was a Kevin Federline anyway.
When I finally bought the book, I went through my entire collection of astrology charts to read about all the men in my life, past and present. This book really hit it on the head, in quite a refreshing, hilarious way. Extremely insightful.
Buy it if you love astrology. Buy it because of men. Buy it for yourself. Buy it because The title is so much more inviting than, "He's Just Not That Into You." Maybe he's just a jerk that you cannot astrologically put up with and be sane.
Funny, incredibly written, and dead-on true.......2006-11-15
Prior to reading this book I didn't know much about astrology, but it was one of the BEST BOOKS I'VE EVER READ. Like most guys, I went to the section that described me based on my sign, and I felt like I was reading my autobiography! Kosarin is a phenomenal writer and her pop culture references are hilarious, but ultimately, what makes this book so great is that it's ACCURATE. I can't see how anyone interested in love, astrology, dating, or human nature, could go without reading this book.
"Wickedly" Fun Astrological Advice.......2006-11-14
I bought this book on a whim and found it to be a lot of fun. Now I know why my ex-boyfriends didn't work out, among other reasons. I brought it to lunch with my girlfriends and they're hooked too.

Leslie, a sweet-natured young woman with the mental age of an 8-year-old, just wanted to be friends with the high school football stars. When they invited her down into the basement rec room of a suburban home, she jumped with joy at being included. The young men raped her--with a baseball bat and a broomstick. In this vividly detailed book, Bernard Lefkowitz brings us into the daily life of Glen Ridge, New Jersey, the hometown of Tom Cruise. It's an affluent white community that values propriety, order, discretion, continuity, and a fantasy of the gentleman-athlete. Lefkowitz writes of the boys who raped Leslie: "'These Glen Ridge kids, they were pure gold, every mother's dream, every father's pride. They were not only Glen Ridge's finest, but in their perfection they belonged to all of us. They were Our Guys." What's ultimately most shocking about this crime is how ordinary it was, how predictable--how in one way or another it's happening now, all across America.
Book Description
It was a crime that captured national attention. In the idyllic suburb of Glen Ridge, New Jersey, four of the town's most popular high school athletes were accused of raping a retarded young woman while nine of their teammates watched. Everyone was riveted by the question: What went wrong in this seemingly flawless American town? In search of the answer, Bernard Lefkowitz takes the reader behind Glen Ridge's manicured facade into the shadowy basement that was the scene of the rape, into the mansions on "Millionaire's Row," into the All-American high school, and finally into the courtroom where justice itself was on trial.
Lefkowitz's sweeping narrative, informed by more than 200 interviews and six years of research, recreates a murky adolescent world that parents didn't--or wouldn't--see: a high school dominated by a band of predatory athletes; a teenage culture where girls were frequently abused and humiliated at sybaritic and destructive parties, and a town that continued to embrace its celebrity athletes--despite the havoc they created--as "our guys." But that was not only true of Glen Ridge; Lefkowitz found that the unqualified adulation the athletes received in their town was echoed in communities throughout the nation. Glen Ridge was not an aberration. The clash of cultures and values that divided Glen Ridge, Lefkowitz writes, still divides the country.
Parents, teachers, and anyone concerned with how children are raised, how their characters are formed, how boys and girls learn to treat each other, will want to read this important book.
Customer Reviews:
Brutal encounter in Glen Ridge........2007-01-27
I live less than a block away from Glen Ridge, NJ, so naturally, I was very interested to read this disturbing account describing high school jocks sexually assaulting, in a brutal manner, a retarded girl in the basement of the house where two of the perpetrators lived. I still recall reading about the incident in the news (at the time I lived in NYC), and wondering how kids could be so cruel.
In "Our Guys," Bernard Lefkowitz does an admirable job at covering some central themes surrounding the harrowing incident: i.e. the so-called alleged "consent" issue of the victim; the culpability of those who witnessed the event but did nothing to try to stop it; the ostracism of the one student who revealed what happened; the "jock culture" encouraged by Glen Ridge; the town's propensity to look the other way, and give every benefit of the doubt (and even support) "our guys," even when it was clear that something very ugly happened in that basement; the breaks that the perpetrators received from police and the Courts; the defense lawyers who attempted to portray the victim as a Lolita who was in control of the circumstances (one lawyer bizarrely repeatedly referred to boys being "magnetized" to her, and visa versa, when she developed breasts) and portray their clients as basically good kids, but "boys will be boys."
The book reads like a train wreck -- ugly and disturbing, but you can't look away. Lefkowitz, who completely convinces the reader that a crime certainly took place, isn't shy about making very definitive conclusions, which, at times, I took issue with. First, I can certainly understand the school's position in waiting until all the facts were known before taking any steps against the students in question. Let's not forget that Duke University recently came under fire for jumping to conclusions in the ongoing case involving the Lacrosse players and a stripper who initially accused three of them of rape. In the Duke case, of course, the "victims" appear to be the accused, and the perpetrator both the stripper and an overzealous, unethical prosecutor (it often just depends on what the facts eventually reveal).
Second, I don't think that Lefkowitz's attack on the "values" of the town of Glen Ridge, or the so-called "jock culture" in general, are entirely fair. The Scherzer twins and Archer Brothers, were, pure and simple, bad kids. You take away this one incident, and you would still say that. The fact that they were decent athletes and good looking may have contributed to their ability to get away what they did, but those qualities certainly don't cause one to be bad.
Third, some of things Lefkowitz describes are questionable in my mind. For instance there's a three day party at a classmate's house, where the drinking is rampant, and the students basically destroy the house. No neighbor calls the police for an entire weekend in a quiet suburb? How is that possible? A boy who repeatedly exposes himself during class and no disciplinary actions are taken? Most of the girls mentioned in the book seem to have weak characters and are completely under the spell of these boys. Where are those girls who despise these guys, as I'm sure their must have been?
Any parent of children of high school or pre-high school children will be frightened and horrified by "Our Guys." However, knowing a number of people in Glen Ridge, I can tell you that when they discuss the high school, they're proud of the academics, and athletics rarely comes up. Maybe things have changed. Or maybe Lefkowitz tended to over-exaggerate one of his central themes: that the Glen Ridge "culture" somehow created these bad kids who committed this, and other terrible acts.
A condemnation of bullying and playing favoritism.......2007-01-03
Horrific tale of the brutal 1989 gang rape of a mentally disabled teen committed by a group of New Jersey high school star athletes and a condemnation of the bullying and jock culture that spawned it.
This true story tells how the local community, the school board and the police sought to cover up and minimize their actions by demonizing the victim.
Read this one and wonder how certain people can ever sleep at night.
Gripping .......2006-11-02
A disturbing journalistic account of a gang rape of a mentally retarded girl by athletes in an upper-class New Jersey town. Bernard Lefkowitz doesn't just report the "facts" of the crime, as in many books in the "true crime" genre. He also analyzes the culture of an upper-class community to illustrate the masculine norms that fuel such crimes and hamper reporting and prosecution. Indeed, one of the most astonishing aspects of this case was that the elite circle of teenagers at the local high school all knew about the crime for many months before it was finally reported - by an African American boy who became a paraiah as a result. The book is incredibly well researched; Lefkowitz (a journalism professor at Columbia University) obviously immersed himself in the case and the community. [...]
Suburban horror.......2006-08-17
Beyond being an utterly gripping read, Bernard Lefkowitz's 'Our Guys' is an incredibly powerful indictment of the perverse cultural values that permeated Glen Ridge, New Jersey, in the late 1980s--and that continue to be America's dominant values. The bored, pampered, arrogant, sociopathic jocks (from affluent families) who gang-raped a mentally retarded schoolgirl for their amusement didn't just fall out of the sky. These evil young men were the pure products of a deranged culture that sanctifies (white) male violence, domination, winning, and hedonistic pleasures as some sort of birthright.
A shocking look at what norming sexism does.......2006-07-13
One of the boys in this case never went to trial because the victim's family and the victim herself were worn out by the process of trial and the community harassment that went with it. You see, the community sided with the good boys in the case, not with the victim---she was 'different' after all. Richie Corcoran went on to join the Army, despite his record, with the full understanding of the military. When he came home from a tour in Afghanistan to his estranged wife, he tried to kill her and her new boyfriend, and then himself. In the latter he succeeded. He was a wife beater and a rapist, and he was the product of his town and his father, who was a cop. Wonder what that guy's view of rape victims was?
"Our Guys" peels back the layers and layers of privilege that enabled these boys to abuse girls with impunity while the town said 'boys will be boys' and girls were given a choice of either submitting or desperately pretending it wasn't happened. The boys got bolder and bolder, and finally they were charged with rape. One has to wonder if there were other victims at other times. Much like the case of Greg Haidl, the sheriff's son who gang-raped an unconscious girl, this case revealed how dangerous privilege really is to women and girls.

Product Description
Audit Committees: A Guide for Directors, Management, and Consultants presents the history, responsibilities, and operation of audit committees. The Guide focuses primarily on publicly held companies, but also includes a short chapter on audit committees for not-for-profit and public sector entities. The Guide is written in a non-technical, active-voice, easy-to-read format. The book is useful for directors serving on audit committees, other members of the board of directors, CEOs, CFOs, legal in-house counsels, internal and external auditors, outside legal counsels, and other consultants to audit committees. It fills a "gap" in the existing literature in that it blends (1) observations based on real-world experiences from serving on audit committees, (2) expert knowledge of the standards of external and internal auditors, and (3) knowledge of the latest requirements from the New York Stock Exchange, National Association of Securities Dealers/Nasdaq, American Stock Exchange, and the SEC, including the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. Audit Committees covers subjects rarely discussed, such as the process for terminating an external auditor. This Fourth Edition also features a free, companion CD-ROM containing workpapers, including checklists and document templates that can be put to immediate use.

Customer Reviews:
Refreshingly honest.......2007-05-18
It may not be Shakespeare, but there is a time & a place for everything, & as far as I can tell Bonnie didn't start out with a silver spoon or all the added benefits. She worked hard for what she has & I'm rather tired of lemon mouthed critiques of people who get somewhere by sheer hard work.
I've a rather painful broken arm at present & her book has cheered me up immensely. Funny thing: the harder you work the luckier you get. I read everything from the highly serious to the frankly frivilous depending on what I need & sometimes the fluff is a relief from the 'great' literature.
I'd lay serious odds she has a happy well adjusted family & if she earns a lot doing what she does more power to her elbow! P.S. Im NOT Atticus actually, although we do seem to get mixed up at times.
Go Bonnie Go.......2007-05-05
I loved this book. It is SOOOOOO refreshing to hear a woman who has faced life full on without listening to all of the naysayers in our society who say, "You can't have it all and don't even try." Bonnie says, try and try even harder just when the going gets tough. Her message is an inspiration. Ladies, work have a family - GO FOR IT! What do you have to lose? Bonnie, I hear your message and I am INSPIRED! Thanks for sharing.
Some great advice, some harder to follow.......2007-04-09
Bonnie Fuller provides some good basic advice that should not be forgotten:
1) Never talk about your personal life at work
2) Don't whine to your boss about your health problems
3) If you are pregnant, say everything is fine and don't discuss your morning sickness
4) The importance of networking to get your next job.
5) Good shoes are important as well as your overall appearance
6) Don't date a guy who won't commit or you are wasting your time.
Among the totally exaggerated are:
1) Negotiate to bring your baby and nanny along for biz trips: eh, unless you're a big shot CEO, I doubt any employer would pay for that.
2) Bringing your newborn to the office: I work in an open environment where the President has an open office desk. I think the closed door word environment has decreased so how can you bring your crying baby?
3) Bonnie is a millionaire, I'm not. She can go to the gym and then taxi to work. I have to take the subway + streetcar. Not everyone can afford the luxury of a cab.
Overall, this is a fun read and I would recommend to anyone.
Light on Substance.......2006-12-04
I was looking forward to a book that would tell me HOW to manage it all... and that would share some stories (good and bad!) about another working mom who cares just as much about her power lunch as she does about taking snacks to her kid's soccer game. If anyone could do it, I figured Bonnie Fuller would be able to.
The book started off well. Like Fuller states in the early chapters, I am frustrated by the magazine stands full of headlines telling me to scale down, cut back, and simplify. (It's something I've strived to do for years with little success). I was also taken with the idea that this self-proclaimed Jewish Canadian geek would share her secrets about running with the big media dogs in NYC.
Unfortunately, little of the intervening chapters did much to enhance my knowledge of how to create -- and handle -- the life Fuller describes. Instead of hard-core details, we're offered platitudes like "Don't wait for a man before you begin your life" and "Stick to grey and black for professional clothes." Not exactly earth-shattering stuff.
I did enjoy Fuller's insider's look at the publishing business, scant though the details were. I really would have enjoyed a deeper book, rather than something that seemed to be written on her 20-minute lunch break.
really stupid .......2006-11-12
She thinks we are morons writing in that chipper "I'm always happy, never hurts, I'm a twinky" voice. I mean really? Who cares about all the jibberish she spews out about being the perfect peon in life! It would have been soooo much more interesting if she had actually written a real biography of her life and success and rise in the field. What does she have to hide? Too bad... cause this book stinks.

Jessic and Damon are at Vito's after school, one day.Damon asks her to be his girlfriend. She says, yes. They share a soda/pop at Cue Cafe , Brian and Kristen are wondering if their relationship might me in trouble. Damon or Jessica always has to babysit for Damon's little sisters,Kita[sp] and Sally, because Mrs.Ross works in a diner and can't afford to hire a sitter. She is also going out with a waitress's brother. A new girl comes to Sweet Valley Junior High,Larissa.Damon and Jessica break up before the dance.
Jessica + Damon = Trouble?.......2005-02-24
Just when Jessica and Damon finally begin to refer to themselves as a "couple", everything falls apart. Damon is feeling insecure at home now that his mom has started dating again, and has found Ben. Ben is kind and thoughtful, and always offering to do things for the family. That's why Damon can't stand him. He can't help feeling...replaced. But he feels guilty for acting so distracted and insecure around Jessica, and tries to be a better boyfriend by being "quiet and aloof" as Brian put it. But when he just comes off as strange to Jessica, she feels like something is missing between them, and tries to be a better girlfriend by being romantic...too romantic for Damon's liking. At the same time, Brian is second guessing how good of a boyfriend HE is to Kristin, and tries to make her feel more special, even though he's just embarassing himself.
Overall, this book was interesting, romantic, and entertaining. I think Damon and Jessica always have a problem in their relationship, which can be sort of annoying sometimes, but still fun to read about. I recommend this book to SVJH readers, and the SVJH series to those who enjoy teen dramas.
Great Book!!!.......2001-06-19
This book is a terrific book. All of the charactors have some kind of problem. I would say this book is sort of realistic and you could relate to it. I like it how Anna expresses herself. I also enjoy reading the parts with Jessica and Damon. It's a great book. I would recomend this book to the world.
Hilarious+Sweet=A Fantastic #14!.......2001-02-21
I think this was such a funny and romantic book. There's a hint of sadness in it though. What made it so funny was about Brian doing all these things like bringing compliments, chocolate candy etc... It all has to do with Jess and Damon. Read it! You'll like it!

A cool and entertaining commentary, as well as a memoir.......2007-03-20
The discussion of cars in this book was easy to understand, even to an amateur car fan like myself, and the stories themselves are extremely interesting. Although, after reading Peter Egan in Road and Track, it could have been funnier, but that might not correspond with the author's idea for the book.
A joyous read for enthusiasts........2006-03-20
A great collection of automotive journalism written by a man who is now a hero of mine. This book goes into the depths of being a car-guy that outsiders don't understand. It helps the reader identify with a cause, and defines the feelings we all have for driving, working on, and just being involved with cars. Great read for anyone into cars, from the fast & furious import tuner crowd, to the shadetree mechanics, to the nascar couch fans. A wonderful book by a very good writer.
Emphasis on "soul".......2005-03-29
For those who belong to the fraternity of car guys, but also for the many more who never had a father or older brother or favorite uncle to teach us the joys of driving, repairing, racing and automotive storytelling, Mr. Clemens steps in to become our gentle mentor. He opens his automotive world with every turn of the page, revealing that the real relationships for real car guys lie not with engines or sheet metal; instead, these are the catalysts to deep relationships with his children, parents, wife and friends.
It comes as no surprise that judges of the Ken Purdy Award selected Mr. Clemens and "Motor Oil for a Car Guy's Soul" as the best automotive writing of the year.
Car guy conversations .......2005-03-08
When two car guys (and I use the term in the same manner as the author, as a genderless label) get together, the conversation might range across a wide range of car-related topics: How is that trailer working out? What do you think of the new electronic technology being installed in modern cars? How was your last vintage racing weekend? Why did you pick that MG TD as a race car, anyway? That's what it's like to read "Motor Oil for a Car Guy's Soul." You'll feel like Kevin Clemens is an old friend by the time you've read his third essay (nearly all of them taken from his writing in European Car, Automobile, and the other magazines he's written for) and you'll enjoy hearing his thoughts and opinions on each of the topics he chats about. This is a wonderful book to take on a trip, or put on the bedside table, because it rewards even a few minutes of reading. Costing little more than one of the glossy English-published car magazines, it is great value for money, and even after you finish it, you'll find yourself mulling over something Kevin said, (or wrote, that is), and want to dip into the book all over again.

Product Description
After steering WordPerfect Corp. through its dizzying rise from sales of $400,000 in 1980 to $550 million in 1992, Peterson left the company. Here he details what it took to successfully grow a company to that size & what compelled him to leave. He reveals the trials & tribulations of an executive at the top of the business ladder. Starting with one software program designed to run on Data General computers, the company grew & changed along with the computer industry itself. The dizzying growth of WordPerfect, its misreading of the Windows phenomenon, & its battle with competitors like Microsoft offer business drama that is both instructive & intriguing.

His Memoirs of the Corporation.......2007-07-03
W. E. Peterson joined Word Perfect in 1980 as a part-time office manager, and left as Executive VP of Sales in 1992. He says their success was based partly on luck: the right circumstances at the right time. [Luck favors the well prepared.] They depended on their own efforts and finances, not on burning up borrowed money. [Did this concentrate their efforts on success?] This book has his views on what was the most successful software company of the 1980s.
He explains why "reliability was more important than price" (p.41). A word processor is a means to an end, not an end in itself. A $1500 product can be less costly than a $500 product that breaks down, once you include the effect of lost production and schedules. He says the demise of word processing departments in the mid 1980s was unexpected (p.60). Yet this happened to key-punch departments a decade earlier when on-line terminals were adopted. [Will Internet E-mail reduce the market for word processors in turn?] The problem of printer support in WP was solved by the use of tables; but this resulted in slower printing. [Are separate executable modules more efficient?] One very important item of their success was their evaluation of their product by consulting with the secretaries who used it. This is much better than an ad-hoc committee of non-users. His evaluation of other companies (p.100) is interesting. Using a "lines of code" rule alone may result in bloated and redundant code, which can lead to higher maintenance, overhead, and support costs. The story of the "free Hawaii trip" (pp.131-2) illustrates the difference between "goals" and "objectives". A fixed cash bonus is a goal, a Hawaii trip an objective.
In July 1991 Pete was informed that he was too hard on people and too many people were afraid of him. [He seems to have ignored this warning.] The stress of the delayed release may have been affecting a lot of people. If the VP of Development was giving lectures from a book, could this be a sign of a problem? Was there a problem from a "flat management" philosophy? Is it correct for any large company? Was there anything that would safeguard a company from Microsoft? Note that this clash of personalities did not occur when WP was profitable. "Victory has a thousand fathers", falling profits has a thousand finger pointers. When a small company has to redesign and redevelop its products this is a critical time. Many companies did not survive the new world of graphic interfaced personal computers.
