"How does a dinosaur say good night when Papa comes in to turn off the light? Does a dinosaur slam his tail and pout? Does he throw his teddy bear all about? Does a dinosaur stomp his feet on the floor and shout: 'I want to hear one book more!'? DOES A DINOSAUR ROAR?" Most certainly not. Dinosaurs give their mommies and daddies big hugs and kisses, tuck their tales in, and whisper "Good night!"
Every sleepy little dinosaur will recognize the tricks of the trade in these bedtime shenanigans. The chuckle factor is sky-high here, with giant, full-page pictures of cleverly identified Tyrannosaurus rexes, triceratopses, and Pteranodons. A variety of human mothers and fathers trying to put their dinosaur children to bed will bring the point home that the story may have something to do with human kid behavior as well. This good-natured nighttime book is sure to be a winner (even though it might inspire a few noisy dinosaur antics), especially as it's written by Jane Yolen, prolific Caldecott Medalist author of Owl Moon. Yolen and Mark Teague have teamed up to create a fun, silly, playful read-aloud. (Ages 3 to 7) --Emilie Coulter
Book Description
What if a dinosaur catches the flu?Does he whimper and whine between each "At-choo"?Does he drop dirty tissues all over the floor?Does he fling his medicine out of the door? Just like kids, little dinosaurs hate being sick. And going to the doctor can be pretty scary. How DO dinosaurs get well soon? They drink lots of juice, and they get lots of rest; they're good at the doctor's, 'cause doctors know best. As in their first dinosaur book, Yolen and Teague capture children's fears about being sick and put them to rest with playful read-aloud verse and hilarious pictures.

Love this book.......2007-09-07
I love everything about this book. My 10 month old will sit through this book and just look at all the beautiful colors and laugh at the silly things the dinosaur does.
Charming story, Captivating illustrations, Good message.......2007-08-15
Open the book to discover an enormous Tyrannosaurus Rex on a ridiculously small bed with his human father telling him it's time for bed. Each whimsical illustration tells the story of dinosaurs preparing for bed and asks if they pout, stomp their feet or cry at bedtime. In the end we learn that dinosaurs don't put up a stink, but instead give big hugs and kisses before going to bed. The illustrations are fun and the story is sweet with a great message subtly telling children the right way to go to bed. (It's perfect for any parent who has ever tried to put a stubborn child to sleep!)
Absolutely Wonderful!.......2007-07-21
My daughter loves this book. Mark Teague illustrates this book fantastically. The dinosaurs have so much emotion in their faces you can read your own childs face in each dinosaur. We have read this so much my little 3 year old memorized it. This is an absolutely amazing book and would be great to add to any collection.
the perfect goodnight book!.......2007-06-02
I have 3 year old twins and they love this book so much that they know all the words by heart, and it is fun to act out what is said on each page, we read several stories before bed, and this is their favorite one.
Love this book!.......2007-05-03
My girls and I love this book! It is the perfect rhyming book with ample opportunities to add life to it while you read. My girls love to stomp their feet on the floor, and we all stop when we get to "does a dinosaur" and real loud all three of us ROAR and they get such a kick out of that. They also like to show me the Mama and the Daddy at different points. We also have the clean up book and that is equally as good. And the illustrations are fantastic. A HUGE fan of this author/illustrator and I HIGHLY recommend this book.

Dinosaurs are great!.......2007-09-28
This has fast become my son's favorite book! He asks for it all the time and is also learning good manners too!
My grandkids.......2007-08-23
I bought this book for my grandson, (2), but my grand-daughter, (4), also loves it. The book is in a series and since my grandson loves it so much I am buying more of the series. I like it because he can't rip it up and the pictures are so clear that we can use it for educational purposes and they don't even know it.
Fun book but badly translated.......2007-07-12
I bought this book so my father who is Peruvian would have a Spanish book to share with my son. Unfortunately, he says that the translation is terrible. So, being a good Papa, he just makes up the story according to the pictures. My son doesn't mind because he so loves the dinos and their mischievous behavior.
I'm disappointed because I thought I'd be able to read it to him and work on my own Spanish which I won't be doing since it's not a good translation.
I got a second opinion from a Spanish-speaking friend and she agrees that the translation is not very good.
A DINO HIT.......2007-02-15
My three yr old grandson loves this book and he is currently very
fascinated by Dinosaurs. It gets the message across about a clean
room and at the same time it is laugh out loud funny. The clever
illustrations are a winner too. You won't go wrong with this fun
book! Thanks Amazon.

Book Description
What if a dinosaur's friends come to play? Does he mope, does he pout if he can't get his way? Does he hide all his dump trucks, refusing to share? Does he throw his friends' coloring books up in the air? Time and time again, children are told to "play nice." This brilliantly illustrated board book is packed with rhymes that will teach children how. Mark Teague's laugh-aloud illustrations, along with Jane Yolen's playful text, will show children that "playing nice" can be easy and fun. Perfect for parents to read aloud with their children, this book is as humorous as it is instructive.

Great Book.......2007-09-11
This book was a great continuation of all the dinosaur books in this series. My 3yr. old daughter just loved it!
Sounds Great!.......2007-09-11
I saw this book in Kohl's department store and my kids leafed through it while I hunted for backpacks & shoes. Books were not on the list that day, so we left it behind, but after seeing it in my son's Scolastic catalog, I think I'll order it from Amazon! Love anything that teaches positive manners and reinforces my instruction.
a must own for any child.......2007-08-12
My 16 month old daughter loves having us read this book to her over and over and over again, she never gets sick of it, love how it has all the different names of the types of dinosaurs too (even though we don't know how to say some of them!). Can't wait to get all the other "how do dinosaurs" books for her!
A HUGE hit!.......2007-07-15
My 2 year old loves books and when I asked the children's librarian for some suggestions for my dinosaur lover she suggeted all of Jane Yolen's dinosaur books. My son adores this one. I like it since it has a wonderful message about sharing with friends and we are working on that skill. We read it over and over and I am now going to have to purchase it to keep at home. The board book is a great size since we can take it in the car or in the diaper bag.
GREAT BOOK!!.......2007-05-12
These Dinosaur books are great for both boys and girls. I brought this book (and two other Jane Yolen Dinosaur books) into my sons pre-school
class and they all begged me to read more...These books are great and they teach lessons in a very funny way.

Book Description
Cows and horses, donkeys and mules, sheep and goats, pigs and fowl, even llamas are living on small farms and in backyard barnyards throughout the United States. But how and where are these critters being housed?
Author Carol Ekarius knows. In How to Build Animal Housing, she provides dozens of plans--with illustrated, step-by-step instructions--for species-specific shelters that are well ventilated, safe, appropriate for the animals, appealing, convenient, and a solid value for their owners.
The book is essential reading for anyone interested in animal health and welfare. It includes complete plans and step-by-step, illustrated instructions for sheds, coops, hutches, multipurpose barns, and economical easy-to-build windbreaks and shade structures. Ekarius covers new high-tech, portable structures made of plastics and fabrics, such as hoop houses and hen spas, as well as more traditional alternatives, such as straw-bale structures. Always practical, she enumerates the advantages and disadvantages of ready-to-build kits and modular barnyard buildings and includes designs for watering systems, feeders, chutes, stanchions, and more--the essentials that help owners keep their animals healthy and happy.
Ekarius wisely emphasizes the importance of careful planning, choosing an appropriate housing site, and complying with local zoning regulations; pest control, basic housing maintenance, and insurance costs are also discussed. Real-world advice from farmers and veterinarians on the types of housing and facilities animals like best enliven the text throughout.
How to Build Animal Housing is the most comprehensive and useful guide of its kind. For small-scale farmers, hobby farmers, do-it-yourselfers, and animal lovers, this book is indispensable.
Customer Reviews:
Love this book!.......2007-09-09
This book is absolutely fantastic for those who are just starting out. There are plans and pictures for every style and taste you may be searching for. It's easy to read...with great graphics.
handy.......2007-08-10
As a hobby, I enjoy capturing wild animals and putting them in cages. But I am fairly new to this hobby, so I do not own a lot of cages. This book has helped me learn how to build my own animal cages.
As a child, I enjoyed going to the zoo. But something was always missing in the zoo experience. Now that I am an adult, and capturing my own wild animals, I feel more fulfilled.
When I see an animal in a cage, it makes me feel important and powerful, especially if I'm the one who captured the animal.
Important details left out........2007-08-08
This is a great book for ideas. It falls very short on important details.
This book is about building animal shelters, but none of these plans
have a listing of the parts needed. This is doubly important because
these are complicated plans. I would like to build the rabbit house,
but now I am having to approximate what I need. The author needs to
remember that someone wanting to use this book might live 20 miles away
from the hardware store.
A little bit of everything, not enough details on any specific group of live-stock.......2007-07-24
I was looking for a book on how to build satisfactory chicken and duck housing. This book has a couple of plans for chicken coops, but not enough to buy the book. Why did I give it four stars then? Because the book is designed to give you building plans for various types of live-stock (pigs, hourses, cows, chickens, goats, rabbits, and others). The book does give you 60 plans like it says it does, but there is never more than 2 and at the most three on any specific animal.
This book does have a lot of good information in it beyond the housing plans. It has minimal spacing for your animals, safety and health of your animals, plus it has lots of good pieces of advice throughout the book that has been picked up over 30 plus years. If your like me and are looking to build housing for a specific type of live stock then this is probably not the best book for you (for chickens I would suggest "Poultry House Construction" by Michael Roberts). However, if your looking to build housing for various breeds of live-stock then this book would be a wise purchase. However, a materials list would have been nice (not enough books give them).
A little disappointing.......2007-07-16
I was a bit disappointed to find the plans in this book are USDA plans from the 1970s and were not in my view very creative or innovating or interesting. The rabbit house was just a shed of small cages, aimed at someone raising rabbits for food, I suppose, and not in any way pleasant for the rabbits.
Book Description
Ask someone who works with horses how best to communicate with a balky colt and she will tell you that horses do not respond to human cajoling. To be successful the human must understand and work with, not against, the horse’s instincts, needs, and fears. When a trainer resorts to human teaching methods — reasoning, begging, bribing, even hugging and kissing — the horse will become confused and unable to respond appropriately. But if horses are treated respectfully with methods they understand, everyone involved — animal and human — will be happier, safer, and more productive.
Horse trainer and instructor Cherry Hill believes that every human/horse relationship benefits from a greater human understanding of what motivates horses, how they experience the world, what makes them happy, and what worries them. Journey through the equine mind with Hill as she explores all that makes a horse tick. How do his basic needs dictate his behavior and mood? What touches and tastes appeal to his senses? How does his “flight or fight” instinct dictate his response to sudden movements?
Hill offers interactive experiments — fun for both horse and human — that bear out her findings on horse behavior. And her final chapter presents simple training methods that draw from the insights and information presented throughout the book.
Customer Reviews:
Winifred's View.......2007-09-28
I have purchased many books on horses and riding, but Cherry Hill's "..Think Like a Horse" explained and reinforced so much more about what I was questioning and experiencing with my horse. It is certainly a wonderful resourse for "newbies" like myself who have discovered the wonders of horse at a late age, but I believe it also holds a lot of insights for the more experienced riders/owners who care about knowing their horses at least as well as they ride/show them. I was looking for something to explain a particular change in my horse's behavior (after eye exams, blood work etc turned up negative) and I believe I found it in Ms. Hill's book. Winnie and I thank her for sharing her knowledge and wisdom in a book packed with information.
If I were a horse.......2007-09-20
If I were a horse, I would want this author to be my "keeper." This book is written with keen insight and clearly communicated to anyone who owns a horse, rides a horse or has dreamed of galloping across a great meadow as free as the wind. I highly recommend this book along with another book that embraces horses: It's called On the Trail of the Pony Express and the book follows Cherokee author, Jerry Ellis, for 2,000 miles along the Pony Express Trail by foot, horse, covered wagon and canoe from Missouri to California.
Wonderful book!.......2007-07-15
This is a delightful book full of information and insight from an often under-appreciated trainer. Cherry Hill covers everything from development to grooming to behavior to training.
Information which is normally strewn across several horse books comes together in this single volume. This is a must-read for every horse enthusiast.

Book Description
Bestselling author, psychologist, and world-renowned expert on dog behavior and training Dr. Stanley Coren presents the most informative, in-depth, fascinating book yet on dogs. Acclaimed for its solid scientific research and entertaining, eminently readable style, How Dogs Think gives you the insight that you need to understand the silly, quirky, and apparently irrational behaviors that dogs demonstrate, as well as those stunning flashes of brilliance and creativity that they also can display. It lets you see through a dog's eyes, hear through his ears, and even sense the world through his nose, as Coren presents a fascinating picture of the way dogs interpret their world and their human companions, and of how they solve problems, learn, and take in new information.
How Dogs Think also answers questions about our canine companions that have puzzled many: Can dogs count? Do they have an appreciation of art or music? Can a dog learn how to do something just by watching another dog or even a person do it? Do dogs dream? What is the nature of dog personality? Which behaviors are prewired into your dog, and which can you actually change? And, can dogs actually sense future earthquakes or detect cancer?
With sound behavioral science and numerous funny, informative anecdotes, experiments, and firsthand observations, How Dogs Think shatters many common myths and misconceptions about our four-legged friends and reveals a wealth of surprises about their mental abilities and potential. It will make you love and appreciate all dogs -- including your own -- in wonderful new ways.
Customer Reviews:
Not at all what I expected!.......2007-03-31
The book was not at all a fun read! Almost every chapter was boring and non informative. The book goes on and on and yet you still feel you have not read anything of intrest.
How Dogs Think: What the World Looks Like to Them and Why They Act the Way They Do.......2007-03-30
Fantastic Book! If you're a dog owner, dog lover or BOTH then this is the book for you. If you want to understand your dog like never before then do yourself a favour and purchase this book. It gives a wonderful incite through the dogs eyes how they see us and why they do certain things. This book certainly goes hand in hand with How to Speak Dog. A must read.
Questionable facts.......2006-03-29
The author cites research of mine on deafness, but gets the facts about my research wrong and gets the reference citation wrong. Hopefully he does a better job with the other research he quotes.
How Dogs (and Humans) Think!.......2006-03-05
This is an excellent book to give an overview of how dogs views the world as well as how that view compares to the view of humans. Dr. Cohen not only explains how dogs think but also how their senses work to perceive the world, again as compared to humans. The information is not just based on casual observations and anecdotal tales, although those are used, but also based on many laboratory studies over the years to give a good solid foundation.
This book is invaluable if you live with a dog, train dogs, work with dogs, or just love and admire dogs. I would consider this a must read for dog owners and especially trainers - after all you cannot teach if you don't understand how the mind receives and process the information you are trying get across. Dr. Cohen also does a beautiful job of dispelling many myths - like dogs don't see color - and provides the scientific proof to back it up.
Many of the studies used in this book go towards demonstrating how brilliant nature is in creating and how amazing the mind is - whether it is canine or primate!
Dog's don't think they are people, they think we are dogs........2006-02-06
In his usual thorough and "text-booky" approach, before he takes on the real question of how dogs think, Coren wants us to fully understand how information, used in the thought process, gets into the mind of the dog in the first place. To this end, he takes us on a detailed study of eyes, ears, nose, tongue and touch. Many implications for animal trainers are strewn throughout the entire manuscript. Along the way, he imbeds other useful suggestions for dog owners on how to get finicky eaters to eat, how to test your elderly dog's eyesight and hearing and how to compensate for weaknesses that commonly afflict elderly dogs. He even addresses the question of whether dogs have a sixth sense that allows them to predict earthquakes or anticipate exactly when their master will arrive home. Yes, I love the way he puts this section together and, no, I won't divulge his conclusion.
Did I say "text-booky"? How Dogs Think has been very thoroughly researched with over 241 citations. It would make a fine text book as part of an extensive canine trainer certification program like that offered by the Animal Behavior College http://animalbehaviorcollege.com for example. Coren can be rather technical at times, using and defining terms like "invisible displacement test", "implicit", "explicit", "episodic", and "semantic" memory. Bottom line, it's his approach that's both the good and the bad about the book. While it's what I was looking for, it may not be what you are looking for.
Finally, on page 290 (with less than 10% left to read), Coren asks the real question: are dogs conscious and do they have a mind similar to our own? His conclusion, they are considerably different from us in degree but not really all that different in kind. For example, although not necessarily something to be proud of, he cites evidence that dogs do lie. I've seen that myself.
One cold winter evening, our two youngest dogs were lying by my feet taking up all the high priced real estate. Their mother, who generally staked her claim first, came in and found her favorite spot taken. Her next step was to walk out on the back porch and bark "something interesting is going on out here".
< cite Coren > The young ones flew out to see what was going on and, while they were barking it up, mom came back in and lay at my feet.
Dogs are excellent keep-away players. How could this be so unless dogs are constantly working to figure out how we think? Empirical evidence says they play that complex game much better than we do. Coren's conclusion is that dogs understand how we think far better than we understand how they think. I'm willing to believe that.
He sites evidence that challenges many common beliefs. Dogs are not actually color blind but rather have eyes that evolution has optimized for hunting at dawn and dusk when color offers little survival advantage. Dogs learn very well from observation, particularly from watching humans. The "Theory of mind" actually does apply to dogs at least to some extent. This is so because the social brain of the dog is similar to that of a human in that both have evolved to solve social problems. Dogs can distinguish more from less, they can count, and even perform minimal addition. Finally, dogs can pass a very limited version of the Turing test.
Major author's message: dogs are much like we are. They are a little worse in some ways (dogs could never even come close to passing a eye test for a driver's license), but better in others (like hearing, smell, and seeing things in motion). Perhaps dogs don't so much think that they are people, but rather, think that we are dogs with some amazing strengths and some absolutely baffling weaknesses.
Book Description
How does a dinosaur eat all his food?Does he burp, does he belch, or make noises quite rude?Does he pick at his cereal, throw down his cup, hoping to make someone else pick it up? Just like kids, dinosaurs have a difficult time learning to behave at the table. However, with a little help from Mom and Dad, these young dinosaurs eat all before them with smiles and goodwill. As in their previous books, Yolen and Teague capture children's rambunctious natures with playful read-aloud verse and wonderfully amusing pictures.
Customer Reviews:
Top of the list.......2007-09-10
When I read this to my son, I act out what they're talking about on each page. He finds this to be quite humorous, and this has propelled this book to the top of his favorites list. (He's 21 months)
Great illustrations!.......2007-08-27
My two and a half year old is really into dinosaurs. My mother bought him this book and he loves it. The only problem is after I turn each page he says, "Mommy, what is that dinosaurs name?" It is interesting that scientists named these creatures such long and hard to pronounce names. But he learns and so do I. The illustrations are wonderful. If your child really enjoys the illustrations then I would stay away from the board books because the dinosaur pictures are much smaller so you don't get the full impact of the pictures as in the hardcover books. The advantages of the board books however, are that your child does not rip the pages and they are easy to transport for road trips. So no matter the format, if your child is into dinosaurs, they will really enjoy this book series and so will you.
How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food?.......2007-07-14
How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food? blends a child's curiosity and interest in dinosaurs and the parental desire to teach table manners. The story starts out showing colourful illustrations of various types of dinosaurs as they are in the act of eating in ill-mannered ways. The caption below asks if the dinosaur ate this way. For instance, "does he bubble his milk?" At the end of the story, the child gets an answer that dinosaurs always ate with the best of manners.
Though definitely not realistic in it's depiction of how dinosaurs really ate, this book is fun. It also allows parents to reinforce table manners in a new less openly nagging way. This book also includes a cute little mini rendition of the same story for kids to carry in their pocket or to read along with.
Once again, a hit.......2007-07-03
The dinosaur series is a hit with our family. This one is good to remind them about manners and being polite to others at the table. The one I got came with a mini book too so I can take it to restaurants for added emphasis.
Great book for children.......2007-05-17

My kids had me read the book twice in the past 4 weeks. Not a favorite for sure. Great pictures though.
Too Similar, but...same great pictures!.......2007-01-09
If you don't have any of the books in this series, definitely get one! But...unless you have a kid who is REALLY into these books the dinosaurs, etc...one is plenty because they are so similar i can't remember which one i have read! and my oldest son LOVES dinosaurs!
Dinosaur heaven.......2006-12-14
We have this book and several other from this series. My three year old thinks these are the greatest books ever.
The only problem I have with them is I sometimes have to read the 6 or 7 times a night.

An excellent book. My son loves it. He has the other 3-4 books that has been written by Jane Yolen and falls within the same dinosaur theme.

I am a story book reader volunteer for the head start preschool program. All of the how do dinosaurs do books have captivated my preschoolers and at the same time they are learning good moral character and proper manners. I believe I have all of them and feel every penny was well worth the spending.

Following up their bestseller How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?, Caldecott Medal winner Jane Yolen and illustrator Mark Teague have penned this instructive lesson on dinosaur health care. Each double-page spread features one enormous dinosaur looking wan and sniffly but mostly cranky, petulant, ornery, sullen, and disagreeable. The human moms and dads are visibly worried and/or frustrated by their sick dinos behaving badly. Witness the nice lady dragging her gigantic Styracosaurus out of the elevator and across the hall to the doctor's office: "What if a dinosaur goes to the doc? Does he drag all his feet till his mom is in shock?" The look on this mom's face will be familiar to anyone who's ever forcibly moved a child, who seems to have suddenly gained a million pounds, from one place to another. And of course, it turns out that dinosaurs don't misbehave when they're sick: "He drinks lots of juice, and he gets lots of rest. He's good at the doctor's, 'cause doctors know best."
The rhymes are somewhat forced, especially toward the end of the book, but Teague's marvelous paintings are bright and expressive throughout. Each dinosaur is cleverly labeled, and these aren't your run-of-the-mill dinos; dinosaur-obsessed little ones will crow over Parasaurolophus, Euoplocephalus, and Tuojiangosaurus. They'll also learn a little something about how to behave when they're sick. --Jennifer Lindsay
As in their previous book, Yolen and Teague capture children's fears about being sick and put them to rest with playful read-aloud verse and wonderfully amusing pictures.

Does your doctor fear the Doctors?.......2007-07-22
My daughter HATES going to the Dr. For any parent I advise getting a toy medical kit, and this book. We were introduced to the Dinosaurs in "How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?" and we fell in love. My husband reads it to her every night before bed. After she was in love with the "Diyos"(her word for Dino's), "How Do Dinosaurs Get Well Soon?" was a no brainer.
Too silly for me! I like real dinosaur books........2007-06-08
How Do Dinosaurs Get Well by Jane Yolen is a silly book about dinosaurs. They are sick and have to take their medicine. It is also about the dinosaurs getting well. I did not like the book because I do not like fiction. Dinosaurs couldn't go to the doctor because there weren't any doctors when they were alive. I would change the book because it does not show dinosaurs in their habitats.
Dinosaur books.......2007-05-28
My kids love these Dinosaur series. They're 2 and 5 and they love the names of these dinosaurs. I have all these books and i am looking forward to the new book from this series.
Can't go wrong with How Do Dinosaurs books.......2007-04-05
My 3 yo son loves dinosaurs. The first book of this series I picked up was How Do Dinosaurs Play with Their Friends. He LOVES these books! Even my 14 mo toddler daughter loves these books. They are fun and the words have a nice rhythm. And, they teach such nice little lessons to the preschool age. We now have all of the books in this series - except for the preorder How Do Dinosaurs Go to School, which we will be getting as well! You can't go wrong with any of these books! And, they are a great gift - even for book exchanges at school.
Great for children that are scared of the doctors.......2007-01-06
