Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

5 out of 5 stars Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

5 out of 5 stars For anyone who loves dogs, humans, life or God -- or wishes they did.......2007-09-06

Fr. Bill Miller is the kind of priest I wish every church could have. And when you read him, you feel he is the kind of friend whose acquaintance you are so glad to have made you want to keep him on speed-dial for the rest of your natural days.

I happen to love dogs, but this book of Bill's is hardly one of those shopping mall specials of the too-cute-for-words, well-intended but theologically suspect book of essays espousing "salvation through dog slobber" one sees so often. What the reader finds is a flesh and blood adult male (though that term is dangerously close to a tautology) who honestly wrestles with faith, doubt, love, betrayal, self-discovery, self-sacrifice, life, death and even cheese. And that's just when he is writing about dogs -- okay, dogs, and the people who love dogs, and some that don't...do you see what I mean? Bill writes normally the way most clergy wish they could preach on their best days, (and the way most people in the pews wish they did too) and yet he somehow never comes off as "preachy". Not even once. How does he do that? Beats the heck out of me, yet it makes this book an easy read though inarguably substantive all the same.

I'd like to say that I could recommend this book without reservation, but as an Episcopal priest myself, I am obliged to find exceptions to nearly everything. Thus, this book may not be for everyone. In fact, it ought to come with a warning label, alerting buyers to potentially embarassing social situations. When I was reading, "The Gospel According To Sam" inflight, the people in the rows around me became annoyed (or perhaps jealous) by the frequent, sudden if uncontrollable outbursts of laughter it caused. At the opposite end of the spectrum was the mortification suffered by my 16 year old daughter when seeing her fifty-something father with tears streaming down his face -- in public, no less -- when trying to retell the moving story (Chapter 9, "Eating Squirrel") of Bill's growing up in hard-scrabble Texas with a father who had no understanding much less appreciation of the boy Bill was nor the man he would become.

So, in all honesty, I cannot recommend this book to everyone. If you need a "how to" book on house-training puppies, this isn't it. Nor is it some canine-version of Christian apologetics*, its appealing photo of Sam on the cover notwithstanding.

But apart from those two exceptions, I would say just about everyone else will enjoy this book, will learn from it, and will (when finished reading it) eagerly await Fr. Bill's next efforts. And when you buy one for yourself, you may discover, as I did, you have to buy a second and third copy -- for my friends to read -- and return (eventually).

But they can't have my copy. Every so often, I feel the need for a good laugh...or a good cry...or the insight of a good friend. In the pages of, "The Gospel According To Sam," I know any one or all three may await.

...this is the book for you. Funny, earthy, wise, gripping, sad. If you love dogs and know they have souls, this is your book.
If you love piety and think churches are holy places, you will find other books better suited to your taste.
This is for those who search for God, and those who love and learn from, and also grieve for, pets loved and lost.

5 out of 5 stars The Gosel According to sam:.......2007-02-14

4 out of 5 stars Great book -- with one exception ..........2006-09-22

Wonderful story telling and I highly recomend it for all dog lovers. The next to last chapter doesn't seem to fit the rest of the book. The encounter with young girls detracts from the story line in my opinion.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent!.......2005-12-14

The Gospel According to Sam is a wonderful collection of true stories of one man's journey, his dog Sam and their sometimes impetuous adventures. Each story will warm your heart and make you laugh out loud.
I loved it so much, I am giving several copies this holiday season to a variety of people (Episcopal, Catholic, Jewish and a couple that doesn't go to chuch). The Gospel According to Sam is a book that anyone can enjoy and appreciate!

Third Edition: A thorough compendium on feeding most types of livestock. Nutrient needs of most classes of farm livestock can be found in many sources, but I bought the book especially because of the information dealing with feeding dogs, cats and rabbits.

I recommend the book to anybody interested in producing domestic stock or wanting to understand nutritional needs of their pet dog or cat.

I hope a future edition will include game and exotic stock, such as elk, deer, reindeer, mink, ostrich and emu.

Truly helpful in clarifying points in the lecture of a feeds and feeding class. Could, however, use examples of ration formulations.

The Santeria religion of Cuba--the Way of the Saints--mixes West African Yoruba culture with Catholicism. Similar to Haitian voodoo, Santeria has long practiced animal sacrifice in certain rites. But when Cuban immigrants brought those rituals to Florida, local authorities were suddenly confronted with a controversial situation that pitted the regulation of public health and morality against religious freedom.

After Ernesto Pichardo established a Santeria church in Hialeah in the 1980s, the city of Hialeah responded by passing ordinances banning ritual animal sacrifice. Although on the surface those ordinances seemed general in intent, they were clearly aimed at Pichardo's church. When Pichardo subsequently sued the city, a federal court ruled in the latter's favor, in effect privileging the regulation of public health and morality over the church's free exercise of its religion.

The U.S. Supreme Court heard Pichardo's appeal in 1993 and unanimously decided that the city had overstepped its bounds in targeting this particular religious group; however, the court was sharply divided regarding the basis of its decision. Three concurring opinions registered distinctly different views of the First Amendment, the limits of government regulation, and the religious freedom of minorities. In the end, the nine justices collectively concluded that freedom of religious belief was absolute while the freedom to practice the tenets of any faith were subject to non-discriminatory local regulations.

David O'Brien, one of America's foremost scholars of the Court, now illuminates this controversy and its significance for law, government, and religion in America. His lively account takes us behind the scenes at every stage of the litigation to reveal a riveting case with more twists and turns than a classic whodunit. Ranging with equal ease from primitive magic to municipal politics and to the most arcane points of constitutional law, O'Brien weaves a compelling and instructive tale with a fascinating array of politicians, lawyers, jurists, civil libertarians, and animal rights advocates. Offering sharp insights into the key issues and personalities, he highlights cultural clashes large and small, while maintaining a balance for both the needs of government and the religious rights of individuals.

This book is part of the Landmark Law Cases and American Society series.

We as a culture slaughter animals by the millions, in large death factories that inhumaely kill these animals and wrap the bits and pieces up in nice and tidy cellophane containers so Americans can eat meat without having to do anything as un-christian as kill a living being.

What RARELY, if ever gets mentioned is that in Santeria (as it is in all ATR's) The animal is ritually cleansed and killed, with the blood offered to the Orisha, and the meat is then eaten in a feast by the worshippers. The Kosher Jewish practice, the animals are ritually slaughtered in the most humane way possible.

Even in the bible, the Christian God demands blood/animal sacrifice

With my white-bread secular upbringing, Even I can respect and uphold the practices of animal sacrifice in the righteous manner that is practiced by folks who are true to the path of La Regla.

4 out of 5 stars Anthropology of Law Review of Animal Sacrifice and Religious Freedom.......2006-04-16

Law scholar David M. O'Brien puts together a solid, shocking, and courageous book that gives the reader a deep look into the intense conflcits between church and state. O'Brien stresses the relationship between culture and the law, and how many minority cultures in the United States are prosecuted for breaking the law in order to remain dedicated to their own religions. This book illustrates the controversies between the laws against rituals such as animal sacrifice versus the first amendment that grants the right to religious freedom. O'Brien focuses on a trial that took place titled "Church of the Lukumi Babalu Aye v. City of Hialeah" in which members of the Santeria religion of Cuba were being tried for performing animal sacrifices. Animal sacrifices are an integral part of the Santeria religion. Throughout this book, the technicalities of both the law and this culture are discussed, as well as the reactions of local authorities in Florida when these religious practices occured. "Animal Sacrifice and Religious Freedom" addresses the important question as to how to have a fair balance between the law and religious freedom. Many holes in the United States' legal socety are exposed throughout this work, and it makes the reader wonder how parallel modern day laws are with the constitution that this country was founded on.

4 out of 5 stars AnthroLaw review of the book Animal Sacrifice and Religious Freedom.......2006-04-16

The book narrates the judicial dispute between Ernesto Pichardo, a Cuban immigrant, and the city of Hialeah for the establishment of the Church Lukumi Babalu Aye. The Church practices the religion of Santeria, a mix of old African religions and Catholicism, and performs ritual sacrifices of chicken. The city passed a law prohibiting animal sacrifices and made the foundation of the church impossible.
The dispute goes all the way to the Supreme Court, raising issues about the limits of religious freedom and the protection of animals and involving diverse groups of the society. Although the Supreme Court justices unanimously decided that the city ordinances were discriminatory, the basis for the decisions differed greatly. Some of the arguments in favor of the end of the Hialeah's law against animal sacrifice were that is was generic, against the mistreatment of animals, and not particularly against that church. The arguments in favor of the Church were that the law was biased, created to attack the church and the religious values of the minorities, and not to protect the animals in general
O'Brien analyzes this dispute in a political, legal and cultural way, offering exceptional insights and important information that add new prospects to the discussion. The book begins with a presentation of Ernesto Pichardo's life and to the origin and practices of the religion of Santeria. Then it makes an explanation about the politic matters underlying the litigation and describes the evolution of the courts decisions regarding religious liberty. The last chapters of the book analyses the different stages of the litigation, providing "behind the scenes" information that go beyond a superficial understanding of the case.
The book is easy to understand and may interest the academic reader as well as the general public. The author's approach to the case clarifies the issues that motivate the litigation, and raises an important discussion about the limits for the religious freedom rights and for the creation of government policies, as well as the politic situation of the contemporary United States.

5 out of 5 stars Oh!! This is PRECIOUS!!! And it's a (mostly) true story!!!.......2007-03-14

Although I did NOT like the way they allowed Leo to roam the streets (Ack!! THAT is DANGEROUS nowadays!!!), I thoroughly enjoyed the outpouring of love and affection that this church and its members (including the childrens!!) had for its kitty, all through its life!!!

And the fact that the former pastor traveled 100 miles to be back for the service and burial, to honor Leo when Leo passed on -- THAT is love -- far and above that which most churches usually show to animals (such as the "love" shown to a poor cat who walked into another (different, not in that same area) church one day and was kicked out (literally) by a member of man"KIND" (not!!!)

    The illustrations are BEAUTIFUL too.

Save a life, spay/neuter and adopt a pet -- a pet is for life -- and, PLEASE - be a responsible pet "owner".

5 out of 5 stars Leo is magnificent........2005-09-11

This book was given to me to read to my granddaughter after my special cat passed away. My 7 year old granddaughter asked if cats go to heaven. This story shows all the love that this cat has given and the only logical conclusion is that they do go to heaven.

5 out of 5 stars Every church library needs this........2000-09-07

A recent survey found that the death of a pet is one of the times when children most want to talk to clergy---rivalled only by divorce. This book asks some difficult questions (what is the church? how do we deal with death?) and offers, in return, God's love. Churches which celebrate the Feast of St. Francis could have someone read it out loud after the service and lead a discussion. This lovely story will appeal to all ages.

5 out of 5 stars A great book for animal lovers.......2000-03-02

This book is wonderful for anyone who's ever had and loved a cat. It does deal with death, and is very sad at the end. A great way to help a child deal with the death of a pet.

5 out of 5 stars We laughed, we cried, we loved Leo........1999-07-18

My Grade three class thoroughly enjoyed the story of Leo. We were doing a unit on cats and Leo's story was one of the highlights. An excellent book.

Having read the church mice series as a youngster in the eighties, I was delighted to re-discover how wonderful the books are now that I am reading them to my 5 and 6 year old charges where I work. In comparison to other children's picturebooks that the kids enjoy, I am pleased to say that this one in particular has become a much requested favorite (and one I never get bored of!)We all love the illustrations.
