Book Description

Customer Reviews:
Mothers Day Lunch.......2007-02-09
The attractivness of this story is the special bond that has occurred with Henry and his family. He is so excited about Mothers Day "knowing" that he and dad will take a secret trip to get something special for mom. Arriving home they creatively make something together, that they think mom will just love! Mudge and his appetite just enhance the humor that makes this an all around fun story.
another Henry and Mudge.......2005-09-30
Another Henry and Mudge... we love the series (have everything offered in paperback), but this one wasn't quite up "Henry and Mudge and the Green Time" or "Henry and Mudge and the Happy Cat". My son, nevertheless, wants to make me a funny lunch next Mother's Day. If you love the series, get it. If you are new to Henry and Mudge, start with some of the first books in the series.
Kids determined to put together the best Mother's Day lunch.......2004-06-12

What better place to start than with Henry and Mudge & The Funny Lunch, Cynthia Rylant's zany story of kids determined to put together the best Mother's Day lunch ever ? against all odds?color drawings add to the appeal.

Customer Reviews:
Vacuums and other beasties that eat off the floor.......2006-09-20
YOU ARE A DOG: Life Through the Eyes of Man's Best Friend by Terry Bain is an entertaining romp with words as they might have been written by the family dog. Mr. Bain reveals to readers that the family dog is quite aware that you have many names for her; but more interesting is the dog's many names for the family members, names such as: He Who Leaves the Seat Up So That You Might Drink (it has been my experience with dogs that it is usually the male dog that drinks out of the toilet, not the female); He Who Smells of Garlic, Tastes of Salt, and Will Let You Lick His Feet (Grandpa?); She Who Does Not Allow Licking Ever (Mother-in-Law?); She Who Drops Food From Her Plate (and always has a diaper full), are but a few of these titles the family dog bestows on its family members.
YOU ARE A DOG informs the reader of the dog's relationship with the household itself, including his relationship with the furniture, the sofa monopolizing much of the spotlight. Terry Bain speaks of the dog's ability to mimic human expressions, especially the smile, which the dog often uses to deflect a scolding when he has been caught sleeping on the sofa. (In my house, it is the love seat, which my Border collie, heeler, and Boxer mix mutt sleeps on every night. I need to share with you here, dear reader, that this mix of mutt is the nuttiest on four legs, sometimes two. Her name is Maggie Peppers; but as crazy as she is, she would never drink out of the toilet: However, the male cat does, every chance he gets.)
Most significant of the household items to the family dog is the vacuum cleaner. While most all threats to the family members arrive from the outside in, the vacuum is already in the house, hiding in the closet, which is quite agitating to the family dog. She can smell the vacuum hiding in the hall closet, just waiting to burst, roaring, from its hiding place, intent on eating everyone and everything in its path. It is the dog's responsibility, therefore, to see to it this monster does not eat the kids, and that any food or nonfood items on the floor are eaten by the dog only. Hence, the vacuum is not only a danger to the family, but also a competitor for food, and must be destroyed, at all cost.
Terry Bain writes humorously about Fido's perception of training, traveling, visits to the vet, health and hygiene, and even doggie politics. If you are a dog lover, you will love this book. Highly recommended.
MAN'S Best Friend?.......2006-03-30
Dogs are not JUST man's best friend. I think the title lacks... obviously. Ladies, if you are feeling a bit offended I would like to suggest reading: "Woman's Best Friend" By Barbara Cohen & Louise Taylor. Ever since I can remember dogs have always been referred to as "Man's Best Friend" so not true.
Nice Try.......2006-01-09
When I got this book for Christmas, I thought I would treated to a sincere attempt to get inside the mind of my dog to view the world as he might. The jacket cover has this great picture of a deliously happy pup with his head out the car window. How many times haven't I tried to envision what a creature with a dog's sense of smell must be experiencing on our morning rides down to the town park.
What I got, instead, was a series brief vignetts ranging from one paragraph to several pages in length. I have to say some were cute, but many were hard to finish. They were grouped into categories that really don't organize material in any meaningful way.
Although you can certainly read 150 pages over a weekend, that approach doesn t work. But to be fair, the author might well have intended his readers to read one scenario each morning and to reflect on them throughout the day. That's an approach I can appreciate.
Wasn't that what "Dogs Don't Bite When a Growl Will Do" by Matt Weinsteinand and Luke Barker was about?
Let's put it this way, "It worked for them."
Do not underestimate the vacuum.......2005-09-13
I loved this book so much that I bought a half dozen copies to give to my dog-loving friends. The way that Terry Bain twists the everyday world from a dog's point of view is both brilliant and hillarious. I highly recommend this book to anyone that has a dog and ever has wondered what she was thinking.
Signed,
The One Who Sneaks Me Food From The Table.
If you have a dog, know a dog, or want a dog, Read this book........2005-08-29
If you have a dog you will recognize your friend in the humorous pages of this book. If you a know a dog, you will learn to know him better. But, if you want a dog--you will better understand the relationship you are adding to your life by acquiring such a creature.
The book is a warm, insightful and sweet monologue written from the dog's point of view.
A must read for all dog lovers.

Book Description
How do you draw your smelly dog? Your playful daddy? Your yummy mommy? See how one girl does it in this simple, clever picture book that's comprised of family portraits made out of objects. For example, her baby brother is so noisy—he's as loud as a whistle, a horn, and even a fire truck!—that she creates a picture of him with whistles for eyes, a horn mouth, and holding a fire truck. After the girl has described everyone in her family, (including herself, in great detail) she asks, "What does your special family look like?" encouraging readers to create their own portraits. With a list of objects at the end of the book to use as a guide, this is the ideal choice for budding artists everywhere.
Customer Reviews:
My dog is as smelly as dirty socks.......2007-09-20
As part of my friends and family unit I read this book to my preschool children. They loved the colorful pictures and creative objects used to describe and illustrate family members. The children then created their own art projects to take home and share with their own families using precut colored paper, pastels, markers, painted clothes pins, and glue. I would recomend this book to all educators and parents of young children.
Awesome kids book - this is a must for your children's collection.......2007-07-27
I read this book at Border's while waiting for the 7th Harry Potter book to be released at midnight. My son (10 years old) and It thought it was really a great book. In the book, a little girl uses objects to "draw" her family. For instance....Poor Schmutz, her dog, is as "stinky as one onion" (pictured as his tail), "as nasty as canned fish" (his front paws), "as icky as pepperoni" (his snout), and smelly as a dirty sock (his ears). The final pages instruct kids how to "draw" their own family portrait using "things". I loved the book because it was so imaginative and funny, but also because it encourages kids to develop their own portraits at the end which should definitely stir their creative juices. This is a wonderful book for all ages.

He also teaches his readers the power of friendship and forgiveness.Young readers ages six to ten, and also pet lovers of any age, will be captivated with Wuffy's hilarious adventures.
Customer Reviews:
Woof!.......2006-01-08
A charming, witty and touching book that never insults its young readers' intelligence. It is certain to delight children and parents alike. I look forward to the next installment in what I hope will be a series of books about the loveable, good-natured and clever Wuffy, the dog with a heart of gold. More, please!
Wonderful! Definitely worth your time. .......2005-12-24
Excellent book! I couldn't put it down either of the times I read it. It's funny, touching, and extremely well-written. Adults and children alike will (and do!) love it.
Lovely Stories.......2005-12-24
Very funny book about very sunny dog and his "Family".
I was smiling as long as I was reading.
Wuffy, You made my day.
Great read for kids of all ages.......2005-12-24
Wuffy the Wonder Dog is a collection of short stories featuring Wuffy and his best friend, Elizabeth. Elizabeth is a well-educated and sophisticated cat, and Wuffy never stops trying to impress her with his many talents. Wuffy always means well, but he gets into more scrapes than any dog I've ever met. In one story, he is a scientist experimenting on chocolate. In another, he's a doctor who cures sick little girls better than chicken soup. Each story has another unique situation exploring the many facets of this adorable but somewhat arrogant little dog. This is a wonderful read-aloud book for all ages, or a read-alone book for elementary readers. The gorgeous illustrations compliment the well-written story. I can highly recommend this book to any and all.
Wuffy will steal your heart.......2005-12-18
What a sweet book! Wuffy is charming, innocent, and funny, he instantly wins you over. The book manages to be both adorable and educational, and it will be enjoyed by both the children and parents. The book is broken into short stories that are perfect size for a bedtime reading.

Could it be a quadrillion dollar bill? Could it be real? Well, Agent Fondoo of the U.S. Treasury Department and his team of Secret Government Agents are determined to get that money back! But Steven and his best friends, Russell and Zoopy the giant dog, are more than a match for the Feds. After all, Steven is the president of the Flint Future Detectives Club, and the inventor of fantastic spying and detecting equipment such as the Snoopeeze 9000!
Customer Reviews:
Mr. Chickee's Funny Money.......2007-05-30
I love how the characters of Chickee's Funny Money have such "funny" names, like Zoopie, Agent Fondoo, and Mr. Chickee. The characters are hilarious! This book would be great for 8 to 12 year-olds (2nd grade to 6th grade). Mr. Chickee's Funny Money is adventure fiction. In the book, a boy named Steven sticks up for his old blind neighbor, Mr. Chickee, when all the other kids (except for his five-year old friend, Russell) make fun of Mr. Chickee. One day, Mr. Chickee wants to leave Steven's town to visit some relatives. Mr. Chickee gives Steven an envelope and tells Steven not to open it until he gets home. When he gets home, Steven opens it up to find a...quadrillion-dollar bill with some jumbled letters! He wants to know what it means, so he shows it to his Mom and Dad. Steven's Dad takes him to a government agent named Agent Fondoo. When Agent Fondoo saw the quadrillion dollar bill, he wanted to get it back. It used to be the government's bill, but Mr. Chickee somehow got it. Christopher Paul Curtis made the words pop out from the page, like when Steven's dad said, "'I'M NOT PLAYING WITH YOU, STEVEN DAEMON CARTER. STAY OUT!!!!!!!!!" My favorite part of the book is in the ending, but to tell you would give the entire book away. Two thumbs up for Christopher Paul Curtis!
Excellent book for youth.......2007-01-19
An excellent mixture of comedy and intrigue. Book positively explores the concept of relationships. Is a little week on supporting authority figures, but all in all a very good book for youth.
sorry - Not his best.......2006-10-29
The Wastons is one of by favorite books and I really liked Bud Not Buddy and Bucking the Sarge...but alas this one does not reach the same high standard. Compared to the Watsons, Bucking the Sarge is for an older reader and Mr. Chickee is for a younger reader. It does have some very clever ideas and some funny moments but it does not come together as brilliantly as his first two books.
What ever happen to the movie for the Watsons?
a laugh out loud book.......2006-07-13
My 6th grader couldn't resist reading this book out loud at the dinner table, chuckling the whole time. A didactic father who turns every event into an excuse for a math or history lesson, an overly patronizing mother who has read one too many child psychology books -- what child wouldn't identify with their long-suffering son, who sees right through them? I especially liked the fact that here, as in Bud Not Buddy, while it becomes gradually clear by the end of the story that the protagonist is African-American, that fact is no more and no less relevant than describing some other character as Irish. Highly recommended.

The book is about a blind man who gives Steven a quadrillion dollar bill but Steven does not know if it is real or not. He decides to take the book to the "Feds" to see if it is real of not. Well, agent Fondoo is offering Steven 2 thousand dollars for the quadrillion dollar bill but Steven knows better than that. The agent then start traking Steven. Read the book to find out what happens. It is a very funny and exciting book.
I like this book because of how the author writes. He writes simple buy yet, uses words that can get you tense. He makes you feel that you are a spectator who is in the book and you can see in your head of what is happening. If there is a sequel I will be wanting to read it and I wonder what will happen to Steven in his next adventure.
My favorite part in the book is when Agent Fondoo had to apologize to Steven and his parents and Russell's parents too. I didn't like how the way Fondoo treated the kids so I thought it was really funny how Agent Fondoo had to give Steven and his family a lot of things so he could apologize. I hope that the if the sequal comes out Steven will be able to find out who and how r. Chickee was invovled with all of this. So, read the book and experience how fun and exciting this book is.

Customer Reviews:
Kafka? H.F. Saint? Add Bethancourt!.......2006-06-11
I found this a very readable story. If Kafka can write about a man turning into a bug, and H. F. Saint can write about a man becoming invisible, and, for that matter, David Garnett can write about a lady turning into a fox, what's so crazy about a boy turning into a dog? I found I was eager to read the story, just to see what happened. I felt joy over each success of the central character and concern over each difficulty. A great book for those of us who remain boys at heart.
One of my all time favorites!.......2004-12-03
This is not a review, it's a flat out rave!....I am such a shill for this book!...I read it as a teenager and it still ranks as one of my favorite books... my big brother made me read it, and he hated to read!LOL...but he LOVED this book...I have ordered a copy and can't wait to introduce my own teenage son to this wonderful book...don't let the "children's book" category throw you,either...it deals with enough adult issues to keep all ages glued to the pages, trust me!...5 outta 5 and I echo the above poster's feeling...I wanna give it more stars!!
D.D.O.A.C Rocks!.......2001-08-13
Dog days of Arthur Cane is a funny and feel-good book. As soon as you begin to read this book, you start to see things through the eyes of Artur, teenage boy/Awful, mutt dog as he tries to plead his case to a range of people. As he tries more and more to get people to help him, he also becomes more accustomed to being a dog and begins to even enjoy it a little. A fascinating book that paints a vivid picture in your mind and wakes you up to the cruelty of some humans, D.D.O.A.C is truly stunning read, and after you've counted the humor, feeling, and plot of this book, you feel unfair for giving it only five stars.
The Dog Days Of Authur Cane.......1999-11-25
What can I say... It's brilliant!
"This books is about a boy, Authur Cane, who turns into dog" is what most people say about this book, but it's not. its about someone, just after a few weeks, sees how much people are cruel... and how loving people are too. Its about someone who relizes how much people are selfish and mean, but there are good sides to people as well. Ya, The guy does turn into a Dog, but the adventure that he takes you on is... well, I can't explain it. The book is brillian, the bad thing is a out of publish. You can't find it anywhere anymore. I know because My teacher look everywhere for the book and he could not find it. Finally he found it in the school libary. Nobody read it so they were going to give it away, then my teacher took it. He read it to the class. Brillian, funny, moving and drama, what can I say...
I can't explain it, just read it. I did (well actually heard it), and I love it!

Book Description
Wacky Wisdom
about the
Weird and
Wonderful Things of Life
that bring
Refreshment to Your Soul
Martin Babb's slightly skewed view of the world makes for engaging, enlightening, and enlivening reading as he waxes eloquent about the weird and wonderful things of life. Amid the humor, you'll find spiritual refreshment for your soul and wisdom for living life as God intended.
In this hilarious collection of brief writings about the funnier side of life, you'll find titles like:
"It's OK to Sing to Mushrooms, but Never Goose a Moose"
"What Would Happen if Beauty Ignored the Beast?"
"When Life Gives You Cicadas, Make Earrings"
"What Happens When You Squeeze a Chihuahua?"
"Did the Pilgrims Drive a Mayflower Subcompact?"
"The Best Stage for a Teenager Is the One That's Leaving Town"
Each humorous essay is just two or three pages long and concludes with an easy-to-swallow lesson. But you'll hardly feel the lessons for the laughter.
Take a much-needed break, put your feet up, relax, and prepare to laugh. Your soul will be hilariously refreshed.

No Sophomore Slump Here.......2006-12-19
You wonder when you read these kinds of books if the second one could be as good as the first one, but this one really is. It shows that everyday life is a sitcom in and of itself, but it also brings us experiences that we can learn from, both spiritually and in day-to-day life. It really causes you to think about the small things in life...like this author's amount of hair.
Unlike his college career and dating life, there is no sophomore slump in book publishing for Martin.
Five Star Rating for a book as-yet-unread!.......2006-12-07
Is it "fair" to rate an as-yet-unread book?! YES! Because the rating is based on enjoying Babb's previous book ("When Did Caesar become a Salad..."). Along with this "review" is my order for 10 copies of "It's a Dog Eat Dog World..."
