Adorable book which I gave to my daughter for easter. I think she really enjoys all the textures displayed; I know I do. I wish I had this book as a child. And its short in sweet, enough text and pictures to capture the minds of infants on up.

My daughter had been obsessed with the Sparkle and Shimmer series since she was 9 months. She loves to touch all the different textures. The pictures and text are all simple and appealing. We never get tired of these books and have read them about 10000 times!

I bought this book and it really is a "must-own" for all single guys. It's full of great ideas, from travel to sports to parties. But the best parts are the personal stories of real guys who have done hilarious things on the list. I want to meet those guys...buy it now and start checking off your own list.

Very funny book. Full of great ideas and ways to live life to its fullest. My favorite quote so far is from the Running of the Bulls: "Don't be afraid to tell (the ladies) how you are the #1 bull fighter in the state of Rhode Island." Great stuff... should be given to every guy on his 18th birthday.

And that's a high honor. Picked it up the other day. Full of great Ideas. From places to travel to festivals to my favorite (and I am going to organize this) the Big Wheel Pub Crawl. Awesome stuff. Definitely gave me some things to try and accomplish... like 499 of them.

Definitely a guy's book . . . .......2006-05-29

My boyfriend bought this book so I decided to check it out to see what kinds of things he "had to do" before it was too late. While this is definitely not written to appeal to me (the girlfriend) I found some of it quite funny. I could also see why it would appeal to my boyfriend and his friends. While I certainly hope he doesn't try everything outlined in the book (if he still wants to be my boyfriend) I think he would have a great time doing a lot of the stuff mentioned in it. I don't think I would ever buy this book for him but I would think about getting it for some of my single guy friends.

Even If you think you've done it all..........2006-05-20

This book is a phenomenal collection of stories that every guy (who considers himself so) can enjoy. Between the "I think I did that" and "Why havent I thought of that" comments, you'll find a down to earth manual that will keep you laughing as you reminisce over good times. My favorite part was the idea about crashing a wedding you've actually been invited to and becoming "that guy" ~ can't wait to try that one out! ;)

(on behalf of my 6 year old son). I like this book because nothing went wrong except one thing, and it was when bear said, "Hello" but it echoed. I recommend this book because it is a pretty good beginner book.

THE BEST BOOK EVER-COMING FROM A 27 YEAR OLD...........2005-06-04

I have the original printing of this book that my mom bought for me when I was little and I still read it to this day just for sheer enjoyment. This is the perfect book for toddlers (I read it to my little brother when he was very young and he loved it!) I considered giving away my copy as a gift to a friend of mind who is having a baby soon and I decided to buy her her own copy because I couldn't bear to part with mine. This is a book to pass down definitely!

A metaphor.......2005-04-12

I think one reason that people love this book so much is that it's a deeply spiritual book. The meaning is something like, "The unselfish love we give G-d is its own reward." OK, that's not it. But something like that.

Can't get much more inoffensive than this!.......2004-03-08

Children like stories where characters have mistaken ideas of what the moon is. The Caldecott winning book, "Many Moons" (which I HIGHLY recommend you run out and read immediately if not sooner) supposes that the moon is no larger than a thumbnail and made of pure gold. In this book, "Happy Birthday, Moon", a small cuddly bear supposes that the moon is like any other creature and, if you get close enough, you can have a conversation with it. Through a series of misadventures (echoes, trees, and winds) Bear comes to the conclusion that the moon would like a beautiful hat for its birthday. In the end, he and the moon have (in his mind) grown closer over the course of the story.

This is a fun book for parents and young children to share together. As the little girl and her puppy, Biscuit, hunt for Easter eggs, children will want to join in by lifting the flaps to discover where the colorful eggs are hidden. A little mouse joins the girl and her puppy on each page and some children will have as much fun looking for the mouse as they do looking for the eggs.

Hard to put it down!!.......2007-07-28

I enjoyed Mr.Tates' book very much.I plan on thru-hiking in a couple of years and his accounts of the pleasures and severities of the trail were laid out in very interesting details.I met Mr.Tate at an REI talk he gave promoting his book.It was a pleasure to meet him and listen to his lecture on hiking the AT.

I have had the pleasure of meeting "Model-T" this summer on the trail, while he was halfway through his 4th AT hike!!!! After listening to a couple of stories from him and learning that he wrote a book about his first trip, I couldn't wait to get back home and buy the book.
This book is extremely entertaining and gives a true picture of the life of a thru-hiker. I could hardly put it down until I finished reading every page. I hope I will have the time, the energy and the courage to hike the AT from Georgia to Maine one day just like he did.

Story Time on the A.T........2006-05-29

I loved the book. It is not a technical how-to book, but rather a story about adventure and people of the A.T. This story deals with that inner voice that we all have in dealing with our victories and defeats. If you are a married man, then you are well aquianted with the "LOOK". J.R. takes the LOOK, deals with the LOOK, and LOVES the LOOK and the LOOKER. Great advice for all men. However, a great read for both genders.

Entertaining Read for Family.......2005-11-30

Model-T takes you (and J.R.) along for quite a ride. This is the funniest and most captivating book on the subject I've read. There are a lot of details in the book--but that is what anyone who is really interested in thru-hiking wants to read! This is a very interesting window into his FIRST thru-hike that no doubt benefitted from his other 2 complete thru-hikes (a VERY rare accomplishment).

Mr. Tate's writing style is quite appealing, easy to read yet incorporating some of the most diverse vocabulary I've ever seen. At no point was I bored or tempted to skip ahead; most of the time I was wiping tears from my face (laughing too hard). When it ended I was tempted to read it again... but instead delighted in watching my wife read it (similar hysterical reactions--at one point, in an airport gate-waiting area several people asked if she was okay).

I've read some good books on the AT, but this is by far my favorite. Bryson's book was okay (the middle chapters in that book are painful to read at best), and managed to get the public/media's attention but if Walkin' on the Happy Side of Misery had received a tenth of that publicity I have no doubt that Mr. Tate would have inspired thousands of people each year to give it a shot. I want this one to become a movie.

a good hiking tale!.......2005-11-22

I have read the book three times so far, and I've been pleased with it every time. I enjoy hiking and dream of one day hiking the AT, and even if I never get to do it, Model-T takes me there and gives me a taste of what it's all about. It's a human experience and sometimes it's not pretty, and J.R. lets us know how it really is.

Hilarious.......2007-10-03

I found the book to be a great read for when I'm feeling unloved. Somehow, (children display this most) humans tend to find it enjoyable - the misfortune of others.
If you've been told that you have a dark sense of humor, buy this book. If you enjoy films by John Waters (Especially the real early days with Divine), buy this book.
Might wanna read it on the toilet if you've a weak bladder.

The Absurd, Twisted Answer to Page-a-Day inspirational calendars.......2007-09-17

This book is guaranteed to make you laugh out loud at least once...and that's just from reading the names of the "holidays." They're crazy and ridiculous and sometimes a little offensive but fun to read for their sheer absurdity.

Happy Cruelty Day! almost perfectly captures Bob Powers's quirky sense of humor on the page. I say almost because to truly see that you have to go see him perform live, but in lieu of that, this book is the perfect antidote to all those page-a-day calendars with supposedly inspiring quotes you get sick of by early February. Powers goes in the other direction and conjures up only the most unlikely, ridiculous, over-the-top and unique days to celebrate (while making you wonder how exactly some of these can even *be* celebrated).

The stories used to explain the holidays sometimes meander and you have no clue where he's going with them, and often still don't when you get to the end, but you've cracked up anyway. This book also makes a great gift, and as someone who's given it to family members, I can say that it's also a gift you can give to loved ones as well as enemies (if you were going to buy your enemies gifts, which you probably aren't, but still).

Works as a blog; does not work as a book.......2007-06-23

Anyone who loves Girls Are Pretty -- and who doesn't, really -- may be inclined to read a compilation of GAP posts in Happy Cruelty Day. I would vote against it. Or if you're going to read it, read it just like you'd read the blog -- a post, or maybe a couple, per day. Stylistically, it's not meant to be swallowed in big gulps. More importantly, I don't think there's enough wheat in it to justify all the chaff.

The editors would have made a better decision had they only picked out the 30 or 40 greatest GAP columns. Instead, they have a year's worth of columns spread over 400 pages. Books are just not the right medium for this kind of material.

Bob Powers brings the funny -- now in handy print form!.......2007-03-27

I have always been a fan of Bob's writing on the Web, so I was thrilled when I heard he had a book coming out. It's the kind of book you keep in the bathroom or bedside or with you on the bus to give you a jolt of wicked entertainment each and every day. It's evil and genius and the kind of book that will be passed from cool friend to cool friend. Buy a copy and be that first cool friend!
