Nick B. Herberger.......2007-08-02
I think this book gives it's readers some great nuggets of truth about truly living your college experience to the fullest. It is practical rather than theoretical and very easy to read.
The freshman year in college is a big deal, a HUGE deal ... it is a transition that few parents and students are prepared for. After working on campus in Student Life for many years I have seen how difficult this transition is first-hand. The Department of Education has shown that more that 1/3 of all new freshman will drop out before making it to their sophomore year and fewer than half of all new freshman will graduate from college.
"Been There, Should've Done That II" gives us some great "real-life" advice on how to weather the storm known as the Freshman Year in college!
[..]
An opinion from a teacher with twenty years experience teaching math/computers.......2007-05-29
As a college instructor with over twenty years of experience, I can say without qualification or conditions that this is a book that should be passed out to all students at freshman orientation. Unfortunately, the advice given in the book is of the after the fact type. By that I mean that the messages are those of experience that can only be appreciated after you have the experience of not having it.
My favorite sections were about interacting with your instructors and understanding that for most people, the major is of limited relevance. In terms of interacting with instructors, simply talking to them on a regular basis and showing interest in the subject is the best way to get yourself over the top if your grade is on the border. I have never failed to give the student who showed interest and a desire to succeed the higher grade when the issue is in doubt. Students who try to excuse their way out the last week have never gotten it. In conversations with my colleagues, that opinion is universal.
This is one of the best books about how to really succeed in college currently available. The best part about it is that it is interesting and lacks that dull pedantry that seems to be a requirement in all the "How to Succeed in College" pamphlets that colleges and universities hand out to their students.
Interesting idea... okay results.......2007-05-20
Urrgghhhh this book is so frustrating... I can not put it into words, well at least. I am not sure what I was expecting to get from this book, but I think I found some decent advice. That being said I think it really lacked any type of writing, I mean a little paragraph introduction would of been a nice addition for each section. All the advice was true, but unless you have no common sense or can not think critically it is all obvious. Some examples from the book, "Don't use an ATM at night by yourself", "Don't call a proffesor MR. or MRS.", "Don't skip class too often". There were a few that had decent advice, but the whole book was just that, sentences from former or current students. Which like I said is an interesting idea, but without any type of writing to go along with it, it is nothing special. So in my opinion there are books that are leaps and bounds better... all on this website, just search and you will find. This book is not worth $10.
at least it's in their language.......2007-05-08
hopefully this can prompt a high school graduate to think for themself and not assume college is like high school where it's fairly mapped out for you. you dont have to accept everything at face value and it does require some effort and thinking on your part. and it's all based on snippets from other kids in college written in easy form. it doesnt have all the answers but gives you an idea that there ARE questions to be asked!
THE BOOK THAT I WISHED I WOULD HAVE HAD.......2007-01-25
Of all the the books, advice, and other perils of wisdom that I was given before and during college, this is the one book I wished I would have had. I recently bought this book for my sister who will attending college shortly, and the book was read through from front to back in a matter of a few hours. I have a difficult time concentrating long enough to read, but even I found this book to be insightful and enjoyable. A MUST HAVE!!!!!!!!!!

Great book. Great reading. And most importantly, it has been tested in the field by the author. Highly recommended only because it is working for me too.

Customer Reviews:
This book may not be what you are expecting it to be........2007-01-03
I was disappointed with this book - it is not a bad read, but was not what I expected it to be.
The title of the book is "Never Order Barbecue in Maine" and from the excerpts I read online and the blurb, I thought this book would help me figure out what I am really good at to guide me into the right career path (I'm a graduating Masters student). This was touched on only VERY briefly.
I was also expecting this book to have an entrepreneurial bent, but it was instead solidly focused on being a good employee and working up the food chain. Perhaps I just got the wrong end of the stick here, but I was disappointed nevertheless.
Packed with ideas based on the school of hard knocks and life experiences........2006-11-07

Book Description
A laugh-out-loud, warmhearted debut about a woman reliving her youth (and not just the good parts).
Plenty of thirtysomething women would be thrilled to look like a teenager. But journalist Kathy Hopkins wishes she could be taken a little more seriously-or, at the very least, order a glass of wine without producing ID. Now her youthful appearance is forcing her into an undercover assignment she could do without: posing as a freshman at a small liberal arts college where, rumor has it, a secret prostitution ring is flourishing.
It could mean a career-making exposé. But right now, pretending to be eighteen means dealing with a Clay Aiken--obsessed roommate, late-night parties that test her aging body--and most embarrassing of all, a massive crush on a guy who's just turned legal. Suddenly, Kathy's got the chance to do it all over again, hopefully better this time. Fortunately she's a quick learner.

lol!.......2007-08-23
After reading Carol Snow's "Getting Warmer", I sought this book out and wasn't sorry! I had a smile on my face and laughed out loud several times. It takes place in Boston which I loved since I live in Massachusetts. It's the perfect beach read.
Let Down.......2007-07-14
I was expecting this to be a quick, fun read, but I was let down. Much of the time when the author was trying to be witty, I felt it was a bit awkward. It was hard to connect with the characters, the plot kind of dragged on, and the ending was weird and uneventful. I can't pinpoint it, but something was missing from this book making it lack the appeal to keep reading.
A Quick, Enjoyable Read.......2007-05-02
This book wasn't especially deep or thought-provoking, but it was a heck of a fun read. Carol Snow created a really fun and amusing character who I found very easy to identify with - she took me right back to the halls of my old college dorm and made me imagine the difficulties I'd have trying to fit in with a crowd of college kids 15 years my junior. Hilarious!
Ho hum chick lit.......2007-03-09
If you want a mindless read, this book could be entertaining. We read it for book club and it really didn't offer much fodder for our discussion.
Really, really funny.......2007-02-13
This is the second book by Carol Snow I read, the first being Getting Warmer, which I got at Target not too long ago. And I loved it! I laughed out loud more times than I can remember, and I actually underlined some of the lines because I thought they were so funny. I read this book in the course of 24 hours, which I almost NEVER do, but it went down smoothly and kept me really engaged.

Book Description
In Darrien Lee's much-anticipated sequel to All That and a Bag of Chips, readers meet up again with Craig Bennett, who is still wary of love even years after his affair with Venice Taylor.
This compelling continuation of the Craig Bennett and Venice Taylor saga reveals Craig to be still smarting from Venice's decision to marry her high school sweetheart despite the passion she and Craig shared during their college romance. Devastated by the loss, Craig has dedicated himself to building his company, Bennett Architectural, Inc., into a multimillion-dollar empire and rising to career success. However, his personal life is not quite as fruitful -- even though he has had several meaningless flings with beautiful, intelligent women -- due to the impenetrable wall of regret preventing him from reaching out to another woman. As fate would have it, Craig finds himself faced with a challenge that tests his will, trust, and capacity to love and forces him to confront the issues that have been plaguing him for the past seven years.
In Been There, Done That Darrien Lee crafts a fascinating novel complete with intricate relationships, life-changing decisions, and painful matters of the heart.

Love will find a way.......2007-08-18
The end of All that and a bag of chips left me wondering, but it was obvious what was going to happen. Sad, but not like I could do anything about it. I'd wanted Craig and Venice to get back together anyway. I think this was an almost perfect sequel to the first one. They'd been separated for years and found each other again after tragedy. Gives hope that there's not just one Soul mate for us our there.
L-A-M-E!.......2007-07-21
This book is ridiculously predictable and unrealistic, starting with the title. The first book in this series was pretty good, although amateurish. This sequel made me roll my eyes numerous times, from the MULTIPLE typos to the absolutely contrived story line.
I like happy endings, but it gets old when pretty much everything Venice could ever want is handed to her (AGAIN), while she whines and vacillates unnecessarily. Glad I got this one from the library! Check out Donna Hill's books for a more mature, captivating and well-written storyline. I'm hooked!
A complete circle.......2007-01-12
Getting pass the typos this was a great book, I've read them in order and is very happy I did. I an now hooked on this author's work.
Great Sequel.......2006-11-06
This was a great follow up to All That and A Bag of Chips. I really enjoyed following the story of Craig and Venice. I have great admiration for Ms. Lee, keep up the great work!
I agree with the title.......2006-08-06
I'd have to say that I agree with the title of this book, because I really felt like I had Been There, Done that when reading it. Why? Because this book had more typos and more unbelieveable stuff happening in it. So, why did I give it 4 stars? Because, if you put all of that aside, you still had a good story.
The main characters are back in this sequel to "All That And A Bag Of Chips", but this time tragedy strikes head on with the death of Jarvis. Some how, Craig and Venice find there way back to each other, but someone still wants to throw a wrench into their plan of being together.
Overall, it's still a good read if you can get past the typos, because I'm buying the next book "What Goes Around, Comes Around" just to see what happens to Craig's best friend Skeeter.

FUNNY and INFORMATIVE.......2006-10-31
Great book! I've dated all these guys...thanks to Cooper Lawrence, I realize the destructive dating pattern I'm on. I'm going to turn my tarnished past into a dazzling dating future!
I wish this book had been around when I was single!.......2006-10-25
Not only incredibly informative, but relatable & fun! Even though I'm currently in a happy, healthy relationship, I think if I had followed the simple guidelines this book suggests when I was single, it would have saved me a lot of heartache. There were several examples that hit home for me, courtesy of my dating past. I often found myself nodding and smiling along as I actually had 'Been there, done that.' Other instances just had me laughing out loud. I have recommended this to all of my single friends; it is an insightful read without taking itself too seriously, by an obviously knowledgeable, personable author.
Clever, Smart and Witty !.......2006-10-16
A rarity to find all 3 in a self-help book! But this author seems to have a nack for truth (backed up with research), common sense and an affable way of transmitting to a reader. Well worth the time. And this is what I call a perfect gift for many single friends !
Love it!.......2006-10-16
This book doesn't just give good advice, it does so with flair. I like that everything is tied to research, so it's not just a book with anecdotal evidence. The writer is really funny without trying, so read everything or you'll miss out on some great lines.

Who would've thought that Eddie Fisher, cheesy pop singer, pipsqueak Mouseketeer to the Rat Pack, speed freak and coke fool, AWOL daddy, discarded Liz Taylor boy toy, and husband from hell, could pen a memoir as entertaining as his talented daughter Carrie's? Granted, he has the help of autobiographer to the stars David Fisher (no relation), but still, it's startling how sleekly readable Fisher's misadventures are, and shocking that he comes off with raffish charm and a sense of humor.
Don't worry, there's not too much about Eddie's dull, madly successful singing career--he wasn't that interested in it either. He preferred women. Warning: as is the case with Robert Evans's comparably entertaining sex-and-drugs tell-all, The Kid Stays in the Picture, we can't know whether it's all true. Some of Eddie's alleged women have denied dalliance. Did he really get naked with Joan Collins ("the British Open") in Dean Martin's pool, screaming along with Dino and Brando until the cops came? Did he share Sue Lyon with Richard Burton and Judy Campbell with Sinatra, JFK, and Sam Giancana? (Eddie doubts Campbell's story that she passed documents from JFK to mobster Sam.) Did Jackie turn JFK onto amphetamine fiend Max Jacobson, the famed "Dr. Feelgood" who destroyed his own life and 30 years of Eddie's? Were Bob Hope's military-base shows really "sex tours"? His bitterness makes one doubt he gives first wife Debbie Reynolds ("the Iron Butterfly") a fair shake. Did Liz Taylor drive away, naked and hysterical, in her Cadillac when Eddie suggested she see a psychiatrist? Did Burton beat her, and did she try to steal My Fair Lady from her friend Audrey Hepburn? In a Munich suite once used by Mussolini to entertain Hitler, did Liz bite Eddie as he dug pills out of her mouth to save her life? Did Liz bed Rock Hudson and Montgomery Clift? Read Fisher and see what you believe. --Tim Appelo

enjoyable trash.......2006-08-27
yes, Eddie Fisher is full of himself. yes, Eddie Fisher is a has been(since the 1960's). yes, much of the book was tmi(too much info). i get it.
don't hate the playa, hate the game. lol
it is good trash. enjoyable, light, something to do instead of watching "I Love Lucy" reruns.
Very Interesting.......2005-12-02
I liked this book. There is a lot in it. Not just gossip from one side but how life was during that time period for people in Hollywood. It was not a boring book. A real page turner and well written. While I might not agree that everything in the book happened exactly as accounted... it is Eddie Fishers story and his perception of how it occured and how he felt about it.
Words Can(not) Express...........2005-09-18
.... how wonderful, talented, patient, loving, forgiving, honest, terrific, special and marvelous this man is - because he tells you that over & over & over & over & over & over again, page after page, as he wades through the ballbusting bitches and faux friends that have populated his fabulous and stunningly promiscuous 'life.' Eddie takes the kiss-and-tell theory to glorious new depths in this trashy book, which when I picked it up I had hoped was a TAD more objective and less venomous than it turned out to be. Thank God I only paid 33 cents for it at a library sale: at least I only over paid by 32... Eddie - get a REAL life and not one based on an obvious desire to hurt the ones who actually sustained a vital career, which you failed to do because your 'talent' was really a limited deal. Sheesh...
Defending Eddie Fisher.......2005-04-21
When this book came out six years ago, Eddie Fisher was doing a promotion which included performing in my town. His ex-wives, daughter Carrie, and various alleged lovers had nothing good to say to the press. I have never heard Eddie Fisher sing nor seen him act. But it sounded like a good read in the Hollywood gossip arena. Now, 6 years later, I have read it.
I guess that Eddie Fisher is the kind of guy that many people love to hate. Many of the Amazon reviews of this book are negative, although it was a best seller at the time of release. I really enjoyed this autobiography and I am generally suspect of celebrity autobiographies. Most celebrities write only the good about themselves. I don't believe that they are always truthful. They want good publicity. Not so, Eddie Fisher. Although he is now in his 70's, Eddie seems to want to set the record straight, at least as to how he feels about his life. I felt that he was truthful about his less than perfect life, his motivations, his feelings about everyone that he writes about including his ex-wives and children, and his tremendous problem with drug addiction.
I particularly enjoyed the beginning section where he describes his early life in Philadelphia and his quick rise to fame.
I had never known how Eddie felt about Elizabeth Taylor and Debbie Reynolds during those scandals of the late 1950's and early 1960's. I was a child during those times, but I have read all of the negative publicity. Debbie Reynolds, Elizatbeth Taylor, and Richard Burton were frequently quoted saying negative things about Eddie Fisher. Now Eddie has had his say and none of it is that much of a surprise. Although I am a fan of Richard Burton, his alcoholic and physically abusive relationship with Elizabeth Taylor was never a secret. And since Carrie Fisher has been writing her own autobiographical novels, the over the edge movie star mother (Debbie Reynolds) is no secret either.
I, personally, am glad that Eddie Fisher has finally gotten it together with regard to finding a loving and successful marriage, even though it took him so long to do so. I'm sorry that he's on bad terms with his over the edge celebrity daughter, Carrie, whose success as an actress and writer is intimately connected with her over the edge celebrity parents. I love her books but, by her own admission, her life is a mess. She must crave the lime light herself (like Eddie and Debbie) because she could leave any time and chooses to stay.
As a final note, I have enjoyed the work of all three of Eddie's ex-wives. No one has ever been more beautiful than Velvet, more perky than Tammy, or cuter than Cricket. But to be perfectly fair, these women married him and must have known something of what he was like, particularly with regard to his drug use. After some 40-50 years, these women should give him some credit for attractiveness or charm or whatever it was that attracted them to him when they married him. If he is expressing what he feels now about those long ago marriages, it can't hurt their careers now. I agree with Eddie's mother who blames Elizabeth Taylor for much of what happened to her son. I agree with Eddie Fisher that Debbie Reynolds is the one woman that he should never been married to. And I believe that Carrie Fisher, in spite of all the pain that she has endured by having a non-present, drug addicted father, is responsible for hew own life and that many have endured far worse. I know because I work in the field of child abuse.

Sleazy, Slimy and Degrading.......2003-12-10
This guy is such a joke. It's no fun to read about a has-been dishing dirt when you aren't even sure what details are true and which aren't. Plus he's so incredibly self-involved and egotistical - his head is so swollen that it would be impossible to measure its circumference. Carrie Fisher, by her own admission, has refused to speak to Eddie since the publication of this book, and I can't say as I blame her. I don't consider him to be all that self-effacing. Even when he tries, it comes out as whiny and defensive. The only way that this book ever could be considered as a good, interesting read is to go through and try to imagine how someone this conceited ever made it as huge as he claims to have done. Rubbish.

Book Description
According to Lieutenant General Bill Carr, an ex-Commander of Canada's Air Command, and himself a decorated WWII Spitfire pilot: "This book contains the most vivid, uncomplaining and honest descriptions I have ever read of what the WWII Bomber Command aircrews went through during the years 1939-1945 when they delivered no less than one-and-a-quarter million tons of bombs on Hitler's empire. From 1943 onward, the US Army Air Corps added a further three-quarter million tons to this total. And those young aircrew suffered incomparable losses."
It is the gripping life story of a decorated Air Navigator who, with his crew in a Lancaster, did a tour of operations in a Canadian squadron of RAF Bomber Command in WWII, spending nine months in the front lines. There are tales of night raids to Southeast Germany and 6 raids to Berlin. This milieu had up to 1 million personnel, 20,625 guns, 6,680 searchlights and about 400 fighters, a formidable barrier across Western Germany and around the targets, all with the prime purpose of frustrating the efforts to bomb, shooting down aircraft and killing crews being their preferred outcome. The tour terminated with bombing raids in France preparing for the invasion of Normandy. There are also interesting details of cultural life on the base, and in wartime Great Britain.
In addition, the life and times of growing up in New Brunswick, Canada in the 1920s are included, as well as stories of pre-war employment. There are also post-war stories of managing the family business, returning to the RCAF as a construction engineer, time as General Manager of the RCAF Association and proprietorship of Unique Decor Unlimited. Stories of retirement include much about worldwide travel.
Once you start reading, you'll find it so interesting you'll be reluctant to put it down!
