This is a must have book for the hardcore Abfab fan! That's all there is to say really! With great pictures, notes from cast members, jennifer saunders scribblings and info on shooting the episodes it is Absolutely Fabulous!
Good memories but little "real" content.......2003-05-07
This is a fun picture book that walks us down memory lane for this cult classic. The outrageous costumes and make up are fantastic. There are a few excerpts from the various shows, but many are handwritten and not easy to read. I think they could have added more "real" content, like detailed biographies of the cast members and some trivia facts about the episodes.
Die hard fans should love this, but they'll still feel something was a bit missing.

Wow...Absolutely Fabulous Continuity, is one of the best books that I own...I love all the letters from the cast members to Jennifer.Even though I cant completely read all the handwritten notes,but I would definately Recommend this book to any Absolutely Fabulous Fan!!!!Great Work once again Jennifer!!!!!

Britcoms for Beginners.......2004-01-03
I love britcoms, and British television in general, as much as anyone, but this book is lacking in one key are: no episode guide to any of the series! As far as I'm concerned, this should be the most important part of a book like this, and its omission is a big flaw. Without episode guides, it's simply a overview of Britcoms for beginners. It would only require one sentence for each episode and since some of the series are only 12 or 20 episodes it wouldn't have taken up much space. Still, if you just want a simple overview of Britcoms and a bit of trivia, it's ok.

This will tell you about a bunch of them, and some you've never heard of, but not too much on one program. If you're just getting into Britcoms, this is a good primer that will introduce you to the genre that so many of us think is far superior to the drivel on American TV!

There's quite a bit of interesting trivia and information in the booklet. It mentions the noteworthy shows of the 70s, 80s, and the 90s. If you want to blend in England or watch popular British telly, this is the book to get. Also the book notes some useful information on how it differs from American television, so I reckon that this might be a good read for students of television.

It's almost inarguable that Britain has more than its share of classic sitcoms: Are You Being Served?, The Good Life (Good Neighbors to Americans), To the Manor Born, Fawlty Towers, Yes, Minister, Black Adder, Red Dwarf, Absolutely Fabulous . . . the list goes on and on.
This book is a splendid overview of most of these that have made it to America. Each one gets several pages of text and a few photographs. The text provides an overview of the series concept, how it came about, and usually an episode summary or two to give one a flavor of the series. I found that I learned a little bit about the series I had seen and had some fond memories brought back. I also felt that I got a good idea of what the unfamiliar series were like.
An excellent book for the Anglophiles among us.

it was a great book. it was funny and easy to read as well as very insightful to the relationship and friendship between straight women and gay men. it helped me understand a lot of the issues that these couples go through were not unique to me and my best friend and gave a lot of insight on how to work out some of these issues.

I totally agree with the reader who was disapointed. Specially regarding to the judgement about those woman who feel atracted to a gay friend or also the part who says that being in love is a bad thing! What is necessarily bad in life? What is necessarily wrong in life? If you go beyond supeficiality, you can easily get that this is a very complex situation to be analyzed like that.

I am a straight white male, and I found this book to be very informative. Much of the information in this book can help a straight man get along better with straight women. The theme, at least from my point of view, is that straight women would like straight men to be more like gay men, with the exception being sexual orientation.
Change the Name Back!.......2002-12-18
When I bought the first version of this book, called A Couple of Friends, back in '96 or '97, I didn't even know any gay people personally, and it came out well before the TV show about such relationships. I bought it because of my interest in learning more about gays since a singer I like is gay. I found it a very easy-to-read and insightful book, but it soon started collecting dust on my bookshelf for a few years.
About two years ago, purely by accident, I developed a close friendship with a gay man. When I discovered I still had the book this summer and re-read it, I was amazed about how closely the relationship between my friend and I gibed with what was in the book.
So, I wondered if my buddy had even heard of the book, and I thought it'd be a good idea if I gave it to him for Christmas! Well, I discovered to my disgust that they had changed the name, and therefore the focus of the book. Inside, it's more or less the same. Almost to be expected, there are new references to the sitcom Will and Grace, but that wasn't what bothered me about it. What bothered me was that the title they gave the revised version of the book focused on, I believe, the wrong aspect of these unique relationships. The old title, A Couple of Friends, focused on the friendship. In fact, the subtitle was,The Remarkable Friendship Between Straight Women and Gay Men. Friends in huge letters in the title, friends in the subtitle. And that's what my buddy and I have. We're just a couple of friends, and we do indeed have a remarkable friendship.
Compare that with the new title. Big letters: Straight Women, Gay Men. As if that's the most important thing about the relationship! Then, in little bitty letters: Absolutely Fabulous Friendships. Almost absolutely inconsequential.
I think this is wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. The whole point of the first book is that my orientation and his orientation (or for that matter, our races) don't matter between us. Even though they are the inescapable components in our lives and help shape how we relate to our worlds, our friendship comes FIRST.
So, I bought it, because I want my buddy to read what it has to say about us and other friendships like ours. I hope he likes it. I know for SURE that he'll have his own outspoken opinion about it either way! But I'm also tempted to find an older copy with the original title and picture, because I believe it was a little more to the point than this supposedly "updated" revision.
I hope that one day the publisher will realize that what we have as friends isn't to be trivialized for the sake of attention-grabbing commercialism (Straight Women! Gay Men! Oh, No!!), and will restore future revisions to the more appropriate emphasis on men and women who live in two different worlds and yet are the very best of friends.
Fun, yet meaningful.......2002-11-19
Not only did I learn from reading this book, seeing as it contains a lot of good info in the form of actual interviews with gay men and straight women, but I had fun reading it. Its tone takes on an almost playful feel in some parts of the book, like in the section discussing the 10 most important lies gay men and straight women tell each other. I loved this book!

I love the show as does one of my best friends. When I saw there were 2 books out, I ordered them for her for xmas. All these are are the scripts from the show. No behind the scenes stuff, no commentary, nothing. They were such a waste of money. You get more info by going to the Ab Fab website.

Jennifer Saunders is a comedy genius and this has to be one of her best works to date. It reveals the completely obnoxious side of the quick fix 80's and 90's, with mood shifts that go from bizarre machinations to impulsive, thoughtless and wreckless PR.
Contemporary British comedy at its excruciatingly exacting best.

A brilliant example of comedy writing.......1998-06-08
Jennifer Saunders is a comedienne loved all over the world for her dead-on characterizations & biting satire. If you have seen the television show "Absolutely Fabulous," you know how Saunders can inhabit a character and make it her own. Now with this and her follow-up "Absolutely Fabulous 2," you will see just what a wonderful and inspired writer she is. The rapid-fire wit of her writing jumps from the page straight into your psyche. Hilarious characters, well written, and later well performed in the television series. This is a must for any "AbFab" fan, but I also highly recommend it to anyone who loves comedy or likes to read tight, smart & funny character plays.

This book is the perfect companion for any "AbFab" fan. If you don't know what "AbFab" is, perhaps you should buy the book anyway in order to read some of the best, sharpest, and most right-on satirical sitcom writing since the days of "All in the Family." Edina and Patsy are fashion-obsessed, substance-crazed, self-absorbed Baby Boomers. Saffron is Edina's prim daughter. Fans will find this book interesting by noting how and where the text differs slightly from the actual shows as they were put on tape. Some good bits are included in here that were left out of the final shows; due, I suppose, to time limitations. Well, cheers Jennifer Saunders, thanks a lot, babe!

Another great book added to my collection.When I was reading this book,i kept thinking back to when I was watching the episodes and I laughed a lot.It all made a little bit more sense to me,(Im not all that good when it comes to understanding everything that they say)This book is a MUST HAVE for any AbFab fan!

Buy this book-PLEASE! Do everything you can to get your little hands on it. You will not regret your purchase. J. Saunders is a comedic genius. She writes with the talent and craft that all comedians-turned-tv stars in the US dream they could posess. No comedian--not Jerry Seinfeld, Rosanne Barr, Jim Carrey--can write anything remotely as entertaining, funny, and completely fresh as Saunders. Not even Friends is this funny--and I enjoy that show.
No American sitcom can touch the level of orginality, spunk, finese, and energy of this British television show. In fact, 90% of the things done and said on this show are not permitted on American television (save the cable channel Comedy Central) because the show would be so funny (in comparison to all other US sitcoms) that it would expose the Grand Canyon-esque gap between it's sublime quality and the bloody mess that is American sitcoms.
(If you do not believe me, that US shows have become, well, redundant bird droppings, just watch any show starring a one-time-stand up-comic and see if they don't do the "I killed/lost your pet and bought a new one that looks exactly the same to fool you" number). Pure, uninspiring wishy-washy tv. I'm 24 and I swear that I have been watching the same show over and over again, no matter who they get to star in it or try hide this fact under a new series name. Sounds like you? Enter . . . Abosultely Fabulous.
Absolutely Fabulous 2 is truly beyond hilarious. My gosh! I do not know how J. Saunders and J. Lumley are able to transform mere words on a page to the masterfully acted characters of Edina and Pasty that they inhabit on screen.
I will never grow tired of reading or watching these episodes. Although this collection lacks the episode "France" which is also another favorite, the book features the scripts for the best ABFAB episodes ever. I am talking "Poor" "Morocco" and "Hospital"--they are the series finest and showcase Eddie and Pats at their best.
Buy and read this book while watching the corresponding episodes to see what I am talking about. You will not be disappointed unless you were expecting God to appear--oh, wait, that happens, (in Absolutely Fabulous the Last Shout which is absolutely required watching). Bye, Sweetie Darlings.

Having seen most of the episodes that are in script form in the book, it was really hilarious to read them and think back on the episode. Five+stars for this one!!!!!!!!

Jennifer Saunders is one of the world's greatest comedy writers. If you are serious about comedy then you need to see Jennifer's show, "Absolutely Fabulous" on Comedy Central Cable TV. Airs on Saturday afternoon 4p.m. (Pacific time). This comedy was so succesful the American Networks rejected it for being "too funny!" Go figure. In any case, if you want to learn some great comedy buy this book, and watch the TV shows. You can also purchase Jennifer's movie, "The Last Shout" and her TV episodes. Jennifer Saunders is top notch professional comedy to the utmost. James Russell/California.

Just what the world needs - someone writing a book on information that has not been fully researched on the subject of transgender. A 'drag queen' does or does not mean or represent that 1 + 1 = 2. Not all 'drag queens' are homosexxual. Period. Purchase a different book that has been resarch with today's information - not this one.

A great book by a great man.......2000-06-12
A highly addictive book, Karl Kruszelnicki's Absolutely Fabulous Moments in Science has 32 scientific stories about everything from time machines to cockroaches that climb into people's ears. A great display of "simple physics," this book, along with other Kruszelnicki books such as Pigeon Poo, the Universe and Car Paint, takes the reader on magnificent scientific journeys.
I was so enthralled by Pigeon Poo, the Universe and Car Paint, I e-mailed Dr. Kruszelnicki and he wrote back. Dr. Kruszelnicki recently came to Texas and I had the honor of meeting him. Truly a great man, and truly a great book. This book is as exciting as any suspense novel out there. With the relatively short chapters, it's easy to find subject matter, making these books good for reference. Dr. Kruszelnicki's books cater to anyone's interests in history, science, chemistry, and numerous other things. Without doubt, Absolutely Fabulous Moments in Science is a greatly written roller coaster of science, pleasing the young and the old with a highly comical explanation of everyday things.

from real people are inspirational and motivational
to read and reread time and time again. Bravo Dr.Mercer

Horribly self-serving and simplistic.......2001-05-23
This book offers very little help in leading successful change. The book's content really exists in one chapter that describes Mercer's three ingredients to successful change. These ingredients are very basic and intuitive concepts that are covered in a very cursory way. And all throughout the description of his three ingredients, Mercer is plugging his other books and seminars. It gets extremely annoying and detracts from the validity of what Mercer has to say.
The one positive for this book is that there are several interesting case studies for change. However, they are riddled once again with Mercer's plugs. Here's just one example from the middle of a case study:
"Employees pick up cues about the leader's optimism, attitudes, expressions, and way of handling situations. In fact, this is addressed in two of my books and audio books: (1) Spontaneous Optimism; Proven Strategies for Health, Prosperity & Happiness and also (2) How Winners Do It: High Impact People Skills for Your Career Success. My books and related business tools and speeches even delve into research and practical tips on how optimists tend to achieve much more career success than pessimists."
Aside from being self-serving, if these tools and practical tips do exist, why are they not included in the book?
I would strongly recommend not purchasing this book. There are much better books on change that you can spend your time and money on.
