No Nostalgia.......2007-07-28
I always wondered what happened when the dudes at subpop started rolling in cash after Nirvana broke. When you are so NOT ABOUT THE MONEY, and suddenly you are wallowing in it. I had no idea that the indie execs were sucked into a larger scam by a fame-obsessed scammer to the stars. Great storytelling and great stripped down prose. Keeps you from getting too nostalgic.
I Can't Believe I Read This!.......2007-07-27
White's story is about Dana Giacchetto, con man to the stars. What is particularly startling about this book is that the author's husband lost $80,000 (out of $100,000) to Dana, yet she began work on the book in collaboration with Dana. (Eventually Dana stopped cooperating.)
Dana began targeting the arts community (he had tried his hand in the area) after first working in a bank, reading Warren Buffett, and starting a band. Supposedly (per the SEC) about $20 million disappeared through Dana's activities. These were simply writing checks on Account A to deposit into Account DG (Dana Giacchetto's).
Investments were made - eg. Blue Chips such as Coca-Cola (ala Buffett), Texas water companies, and Motorola's Iridium (a satellite phone communications venture that went nowhere). Overall, however, they did not earn the returns Dan promised, nor cover the costs of his lifestyle.
Bottom Line: You won't learn any salacious (or otherwise) gossip about the stars in this book, not even any specifics about how Dana ran his con game.
A-List.......2007-06-30
I came to this book sort of by chance and read it through without thinking of putting it down. Emily White's a great storyteller of boiled-down prose. Bare bones the tale is A-list. Money and lies and sex and drugs. But the opening of her characters' lives is something else. Herself included.
Celebrity, like a passing Kate Moss or Kurt Cobain, is atmosphere in a better story. Her own. Her amazing Dana Giacchetto, his family, her husband. Headlines are torn away and filled in with the real thing. And the blur is written together as literature. This is a real back door to a stupid world. And she strips it down perfectly.
The book is a great read and not to be confused for a how-to-make-money or gossip rag. So you don't get to know how big Leo's penis is. Oh well.
Book Description
With Prince William currently at Sandhurst Royal Military Academy, and with his university days securely behind him, it would be easy to assume that, like his brother, he is destined for a career as an Army officer—but rumor has it that at the end of his year’s training and after the Queen’s 80th birthday celebrations, William will be settling down in serious preparation for his future as the King of England.
Having courted Kate Middleton throughout his time at St. Andrews University, the couple are now a permanent item. Having managed to maintain a rather low profile so far, Kate has recently been issued with her own security force, similar to that of Camilla, Prince Charles’s consort. This move has been widely interpreted as the beginning of getting Kate accustomed to the media spotlight into which she will step by marrying Prince William. From an upper-middle- class background, she is seen as a much-needed breath of fresh air by the monarchy, and her grooming has already begun in earnest—and crucially, with Her Majesty’s approval.
For the last two or three years, the Queen has set about ensuring the future of the monarchy with seamless changes. As one Palace official explains: "The Queen is about to step back, Charles is considered a safe pair of hands but the real focus, the real hopes for the future of the monarchy are on William…and Kate."

Guess he should have waited.......2007-04-20
Prince William and Kate Middleton had dated for many years and actually lived together for a while also, but considering the track record of the royal men up till now I think that the author should have waited to see if this relationship would lead to marriage (which it oviously did not) before writing a book with this title.
Too Soon.......2007-04-01
I didn't think it was necessary to write this book until - and if - William and Kate are married. I enjoy reading about Diana, William and Harry, but it just wasn't as interesting as I expected.
A satisfying exclusive account of how it happened........2007-02-03
WILLIAM'S PRINCESS: THE TRUE STORY OF THE ROMANCE THAT WILL CHANGE THE MONARCHY is a pick for any who love the British Royal Family and want to know the latest. Such an audience may already be aware of Prince William's love life; but WILLIAM'S PRINCESS delves deeper into the romance and what it will mean for the monarchy overall, and is a satisfying exclusive account of how it happened. Public libraries will find it a popular leisure lend.
Intriguing.......2007-01-17
As an American living in London, I am treated to Robert Jobson's Royal coverage in the Evening Standard. Now, after reading his book, I am really looking forward to his articles covering the surely soon to be royal marriage of William and Kate. I hope before long he will share with us his speculations on her engagement ring. Will it be an heirloom or a new design? The intrigue of a Royal Wedding!
Not a book about William's Princess.......2006-12-12
At the time of writing this book, the author was taking a punt on an impending marriage between the subjects, Prince William and Kate Middleton. Seasoned royal watchers would know that a book of this kind is unusual in that there has been no engagement announcement. Regardless, the title is a misnomer since only around 10% of the books 250 odd pages relate to the relationship! The rest is a rehash of old ground. The author tops and tails each chapter with a Kate and William sum-up and then proceeds to write about Charles and Camilla or Charles and Diana. There are a few snippets in the book about the W & K relationship, but not enough to sustain a whole book. Only for the real British royal fanatics. Wait until there is a marriage before writing another book, Mr Jobson and then you may have some material to work with.

No Home Should Be Without One.......2000-07-30
I loved this book so much I believe that every home should have its own copy. The facts and the insights Mr. Nass presents in his review of these wills are amazing!
I can't wait for him to publish another volume to come out so I can add it to my collection.
A recent father's day gift.......2000-06-28
I recently gave several of these books as father's day gifts and had wonderful responses. The book created quite a few heated discussions about philosophies of inheritance, charity, greed and personal expression after death. The book was entertaining to read while at the same time educational in exposing the simple errors many famous people have made in creating faulty wills.
Wills of the Rich and Famous.......2000-06-06
The book, wills of the rich and famous, contains many interesting looks at the oddities of rich and famous people as can be seen through their wills. However, this book is definetely not a book I would recommend to people who are looking for casual reading and are not trying to write a will based on a famous persons.
Fascinating Insights!.......2000-06-01
There is nothing quite like a will to reveal someone's true feelings. It was surprising to read how the rich and famous disposed of their property and used their wills to settle old scores and reward friends and relatives. Makes wonderful summer reading
Who left what to who and why.......2000-06-01
This reprint of an earlier edition contains more current demises and devises, including the wills of Elvis, Jerry and Diana. These peeks at how the glitterati and the grandees shuffled off their mortal coils and bequeathed their worldy possessions is revealing, amusing, sometimes noble and heartening and other times demeaning and peevish. These wills may not be for you, but they remind you that we all enter and leave this plane in a similar, if not identical fashion and the stuff, such as it is, that we accumulate in this realm, is no more than what dreams are made of, but, in our society, must be attended to. This is a snapshot of how some of us attend to that chore.

Fantastic.......2005-08-26
I have read alot of books in my life time and let me tell you the last thing you can call me is religious. However this is a great book. I have never cried reading a book and yet somehow Tammy Fay made me cry. Her book is candid, honest and real. She talkes to you as if you were having a cup of coffee in her kitchen. You will love reading her life story, I did.

Tammy HAS survived!.......2004-01-25
FABULOUS book that could only of been written by Tammy!
Its not particularly deep as the title would suggest but it does touch points that I think anybody would understand and identify with. Its basically a collection of thoughts and feelings and stories. But they are unmistakably from Tammy Faye and her wit and sense of humor and general zest permeate everything! One of the truly well-written, personal books by a "celebrity" where one feels they really made a connection with the author.
As somebody whose interests in Tammy come from her role as a gay icon, not a televangelist, the book can get preachy at times and if you're not into reading the Bible you'd better avoid whole sections of the book as the Bible and Christian ideas are oft-quoted and Tammy is clearly rooted in her faith. But I really feel that her faith is as much a part of her as her false eyelashes! In fact she is one of those Christians that really have that inner light they are all striving for and even if you don't agree with the particulars of her religion she has an undeniably beautiful spirit.
OF COURSE most of the book IS about false eyelashes...and clothes and wigs and purses and shoes and shopping!
Its just a hilariously fun ride through the mind of a hilariously fun person who has seen and survived alot!
Tammy's Little Book Of Thoughts & Advice.......2003-10-06
I have been a fan of Tammy Faye since the PTL Club days. I use to watch her and Jim Bakker everyday on The Jim & Tammy Show on PTL. I have read all of her books. But out of her books this is probably my least favorite. I LOVED "Run To The Roar" it was a book that really changed my life on how to face my fears. She titles one of the chapters in this new book "Run Towards The Roar" but really never goes in full details of the story behind running to the roar. For those who haven't heard the story or read Run To The Roar I reccommend it.This book "I Will Survive" is a fun book. I enjoyed it very much. A few recipes, make up tips, wig tips, nail polish tips, bible scriptures, encouraging advice. Its more of a journal than a book on surviving personal trials though. The weakness of the book is some of the chapters are very short...and kinda leave you with a taste for more. But I do love the fact that it is a very simple book and very easy to read and understand. This one is a lot of fun...but instead of calling it "I Will Survive" it should be titled "Tammy's Little Journal For Inspiration". If you ever loved Tammy, pick it up. Its a lot of fun. If you want a book on the PTL scandal though & her biography..."Telling It My Way" is the book she wrote for that topic.
Inspirational.......2003-09-29
There are several books that enlighten you, and this is surely one of them. Then there are books that change you, books that you take with you for the rest of your life, and these you must share with fellow seekers. These are the books that have unconditionally inspired me to be a better person and that I recommend to anyone searching for inspiration. The first is "The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho" this book is all about a shepherd trying to find his treasure. In the end he realizes his treasure was the journey, the people he met, the souls that touched him(How beautiful!) The second is "Siddhartha by Herman Hesse" A brilliant tale of a man who gives up everything for a journey of enlightenment. On his journey he meets the Buddha, he meets ascetics, and he meets his...(I wont spoil it for you). The last one is for kids, but it is still beautiful. "The Butterfly by Jay Singh" is a tale about a caterpillar in search of her smile! One day this caterpillar realizes she can no longer smile anymore because she is living an inauthentic life. She musters the courage to leave the Silk Palace to find her smile and discovers a whole new world that was hidden from her. Buy them, read them, be inspired!

A Good Read for Beginning Publicists and Small Business Owners.......2006-10-30
New publicists and small business owners should read this book to learn about the likes and dislikes of journalists before pitching a story so you won't come off as a pest. While it's a good starting point and tells you WHAT to do, it doesn't teach you HOW to do it. For a more in-depth look at publicity, I suggest Marcia Yudkin's collections.

Will Smith is a prince, and not just because he first became famous for his humorous rap music and his TV sitcom under the name "Fresh Prince." Although this African American is now a mega-star of the big screen, he's still a thoroughly decent person.
