5 out of 5 stars She's maaaaaaaad!.......2007-06-10

The Georgia Nicolson character IS truly MAAAAAAAAAD and this makes for some really good laughs. Actually, I laughed myself so hard I was literally crying and had to hold my belly. Boy Entrancers is hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing in a long while!

5 out of 5 stars It is what it is - too funny!.......2007-02-27

Oh, how clever Louise Rennison is. This hilarious novel reminds me a bit of a stand-up comedian's routine with a plot - of sorts. English teenager, Georgia, (the main character) has her own combination of slang and made up alterations of words that take a bit of getting used to at first. But her descriptions of events, friends, her own family, and life in general are so fast, funny, and furious, I could hardly stop laughing. Of course, it's all very silly, and Georgia comes across as perhaps a little to obsessed with snogging boys, or a bit too dim-witted at times, but then maybe not. In any event, if you like novels that are clearly intended to make you laugh, and you aren't looking for any deep messages except that there is always humor to be found in the strange and sometimes unbelieveably wacky things teenagers do, then this book is for you. Highly recommended for kids over 13 and anyone else who enjoys a good laugh.

another amusing Georgia Nicholson story -- nothing too new, but hilariously funny as always

America and London are two different worlds. The people speak differently, eat differently, and drive on different sides of the road. So it's a big transition when someone from either country goes to visit the other one. Then He Ate my Boy Enrancers, by Louise Rennison, is the sixth in the Georgia Nicolson Series, which was kicked off by Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging.. In this teen-fiction story, British 16 year-old Georgia Nicolson travels to America. She's not exactly what you call a typical teenager, as she makes up creative words, such as "hamburger-a-gogo land" (America), and loves getting into trouble. Despite her outgoing and comical personality, Georgia may have trouble keeping her wacky family in line. Vati, her loony father, has Georgia begging him not to wear his overalls in public. There is also Mutti, (her mother), and Uncle Eddie, who humiliate her at any given moment. Her 4-year old sister, Libby, is just as crazy as all the rest of them and emphatically loves to sing, er, interesting songs. Thank god Georgia's best friend, Jas, is also tagging along. She may regularly complain about missing her boyfriend and have annoying bangs, but she is the sanest person accompanying Georgia on this trip. The good news is, Masimo, gorgeous Italian-American singer of the band, The Stiff Dylans and Georgia's nearly boyfriend, is visiting his family in Manhattan. He thinks Georgia is still back in London, so imagine his expression when she pops up out of nowhere and says hello! This, however, may be a bit more difficult to achieve then Georgia pictured......

Georgia and her friends were hysterical! I couldn't stop laughing the entire time I was reading. The language and expressions used in this novel were an original blend of British slang and creatively made-up words. I also found that the characters were all well-developed, and of course, hilarious. I appreciate the way Rennison put together a diverse cast of characters. Their personalities were all varied and unique. I especially liked Georgia's cats, Angus and Gordy. They were the most psychotic animals I have ever heard of, and I loved to read about their comedic antics. They were relentlessly torturing the poodles next door and decimating Georgia's stockings. I think it was amusing how nobody had any control over them whatsoever.

Furthermore, you could always powerfully hear Georgia's voice. She sounded like an actual 16-year old. I felt like I was there with Georgia in every situation, comprehending every thought that went through her head. I recommend this book to fans of teen-fiction authors that incorporate comedy into their stories. Abstain from reading this book in public areas, as sudden explosive laughter is imminent!

4 out of 5 stars Then He Ate my Boy Entrancers.......2006-05-16

One of the hilarious tales of the British teenager, Georgia Nicolson, est tres amusant. Now that the "love god" is "out of her thoughts, and never to return", there is a new man on her mind. The Itallion Stallion, Masimo. Georgia is very impatient about his return from "Hamburger-a-go-go"(America), and is extatic when her family informs her that this is their new destination for vacation.

The sixth story of the Confessions of Georgia Nicolson is quite funny. I was not surprised it was though. The whole series is. I say, more prays for Louise Rennison, for creating the book that made tears stream down my face with laughter. The story is appropriate for, preferably, the "young adults" out there. The plot was brilliant and so were the characters. Bring on the next story!

Book Description

For ten years, the charmingly disheveled veteran FBI Special Agent E.L. Pender has been investigating the apparently random disappearances of a dozen women across the country. The only detail the cases have in common is the strawberry blond color of the victims' hair, and the presence of a mystery man with whom they were last seen.

Then, in Monterey, California, a routine traffic stop erupts into a scene of horrific violence. The local police are stunned by a disemboweled strawberry blond victim and an ingenious killer with multiple alternating personalities. Pender is convinced he has found his man, but before he can prove it, the suspect stages a cunning jailbreak and abducts his court-appointed psychiatrist, Irene Cogan.

In a house on a secluded ridge in Oregon, Irene must navigate through the minefield of her captor's various egos -- male and female, brilliant and nave, murderous and passive -- all of whom are dominated by Max, a seductive killer who views her as both his prisoner and his salvation. Irene knows that to survive she must play along with Max's game of sexual perversion. Only then will she be able to strip back the layers to discover a chilling story of a shattered young boy -- and all the girls he adored.

A sexually charged thriller of extraordinary originality and page-turning suspense, The Girls He Adored moves furiously from the inner recesses of the psyche to its final, startling climax. Jonathan Nasaw brilliantly portrays two equally intense characters -- a deviant killer and the expert who can unlock his darkest secrets -- and introduces one of the most likable sleuths in recent fiction.

Of all the rules a serial killer might choose to ignore, the costliest may be rolling through a red light within sight of a vigilant sheriff's deputy. But in Jonathan Nasaw's latest thriller, The Girls He Adored, that's exactly what he does. As the deputy tells it: "But when I look in, I see this blond girl, couldn't have been more than eighteen, she's sitting straight up holding her stomach with both hands. She's wearing a white sweater that looks like it's dyed in overlapping bands of red at the bottom, and she has the strangest expression on her face. Just, you know, puzzled--I'll never forget that expression. I ask her if she's okay, she lifts up her sweater with both hands, and her guts spill out on her lap."

A number of strawberry blondes have disappeared over the past 11 years. If rumpled FBI Special Agent E.L. Pender's correct, the unfortunate woman above is number 13. The good news is that "Casey" (after the gent with a passion for strawberry blondes from the song "And the Band Played On") is in custody, undergoing evaluation by court-appointed psychologist Irene Cogan.

The bad news is that before Pender can prove that Casey--or, given his dissociative identity disorder, Max, Christopher, Kinch, Lyssy, Alicia, et al-- is his man, the suspect breaks jail, gives Pender the slip, and takes Dr. Cogan on a hellish ride of psychosexual perversion. It ends on a nightmarish farm that could scare the pants off Dante.

How much Nasaw owes to Thomas Harris and his friend Hannibal Lecter is beside the point. In Casey/Max, Nasaw's crafted a true monstrosity; in Irene, a masterful adversary; in E.L. Pender, a cop as fine and likable as any you've met in some time. And he's wrapped them in a story like none you've lately read. --Michael Hudson

5 out of 5 stars Best Book i've read in a long time.......2007-08-01

This book is masterfully written, if you like thrillers without a lot of romance and fluff. But full of beleivable scenerios then you want this book.

5 out of 5 stars Sick...in a good way!.......2007-01-30

The Girls He Adored is a great novel! It has you turning pages almost faster than you can read! I could not put this book down; move over Hannibal, Max has come to town! I loved this bad guy...I mean guys...I mean guy. Max is a whole bunch of bad guys all rolled up into one. Max, Christopher, Mose, Useless, and Kinch Oh My! I wasn't even finished with this book when I got online and bought every other book the author has written. If you like nail biting suspense, with a little gore, and a really complex bad guy thrown in you'll love this book!

4 out of 5 stars Fascinating!.......2005-10-21

I very much enjoyed this book. I was bored the first 1/3 of the way through(hence the loss of a star), but after that it get's interesting. So if you decide to read this one, just hang in there, okay.

Max was absolutely fascinating. I loved the way his charachter was developed. And the writer explains the details about the disorder (DID/MPD) in such a way as to be interesting rather than boring and over my head. This book was without a double one of the better thrillers I've read in recent months. I CAN"T WAIT for the sequel.

4 out of 5 stars Not Bad.......2005-03-30

The beginning of this book was extremely boring! I was glad that I hung in there because there was a drastic improvement. It ended up being a page turner about half way through.

Wowwwww is the best way to describe this book!
Mr. Nasaw sure knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat with this one! I agree with another poster that it SHOULD be made into a movie. What a ride! I very much recommend this book. It was extreemly thrilling, emotional, heartbreaking and a great ending! Even though there are many many *people* in this book, I was able to see and feel for each one and felt I was right there while it was all happening. I have already ordered more of his books. *Fear Itself* was also a great read that I have recommended to many people. PLEASE keep them coming Mr. Nasaw! You have a true gift.
I don't usually re-read novels, but this one I'm sure I will!
Thank you for a book I will never forget!

2 out of 5 stars Sarcasm doesn't equal humor.......2007-07-09

On the upside, the book is a very easy and quick read, and it cost less than $2 on Amazon when I bought it, so not much was at stake.

That said, I was very disappointed. The entire book is just sarcasm. While sarcasm can be effective, there has to be more substance in a humor book. Cindy Chupak's Between Boyfriends Book effectively combined insight, sarcasm, and personality to create a bittersweet collection that sometimes made me laugh, and sometimes made me indecisive about laughing and crying. Whitman fails miserably in that regard. Her "humor" is shallow, formulaic, and predictable. By the 30th page, I knew what was coming, and it was no longer funny.

Im sorry I spent money on this book. I did not find it funny at all, I thought it was stupid.. I got half way thru the book in about 5 mins and then threw it away. Ugh!

5 out of 5 stars Funny book!.......2007-02-04

It's short, cynical, hilarious -- a perfect tonic to the avalanche of relationship books that take the subjects of love and romance WAY too seriously. Love should be fun -- and funny.

5 out of 5 stars Fun book!.......2007-02-03

Fun Book! I rarely laugh out loud while reading alone, but I did while reading this book. It would make a good un-valentine gift for a girlfriend (or stalker...).

1 out of 5 stars Don't waste your $$.......2007-02-02

Don't waste your time or money reading this book. Here we are reaching out for relationship guidelines and this author (supposedly an expert) selling books under the pretense of being helpful. Instead she writes a not funny at all book which ended in my garbage. If the author wants to write a comedy, market it as such. It wasn't even funny.

4 out of 5 stars People teens admire talk about God.......2007-04-13

Author Amy Hammond Hagberg wanted to help teens--her own and others--answer questions about God, including the big question: "How do you know he's real?"

Hagberg wrote to sports stars, recording artists and other celebrities, asking them to reflect on their life experiences and share how the reality of God was making a difference to them personally and professionally. The responses she received--from NBA players, Christian musicians, 'American Idol' contestants and others--are honest, revealing, and often compelling.

The resulting book is a collection of celebrity essays: mini-bios that focus on the reality of God in the midst of media attention, success and failure, and broken relationships. Contributors include Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic basketball team, quarterback David Carr of the Houston Texans, and popular Christian recording artist Clay Crosse.

Some of the interviews are especially helpful for Hagberg's original target readers: teens. Among these, Chrissy Conway of 'Zoe Girl' talks about her parents' divorce, the party scene, and the twists and turns along her personal career path in ways that connect with teens and with anyone who has ever considered attempting a career in music.

Hagberg is a gifted and skilled writer who keeps readers turning the pages as she unpacks celebrity affirmations of the presence of God in their lives. A great gift book for readers from teens through Gen X, but the stories here will interest readers of any age!

Note: Reviewer Dr. David Frisbie is an author and Executive Director of The Center for Marriage & Family Studies in Del Mar, California.

Armchair Interviews says: Anything that can help teens understand their role in living a good life is good.

5 out of 5 stars Celebrities share their faith.......2007-03-11

This is an ideal book to give to people who have questions about becoming a Christian, and who love sports and music celebrities.

44 extreme sports and music celebrities tell their stories in this book, from Jonny Lang (recording artist), to Barlow Girl (rock group), Kimiko Soldati (Olympic diving), CJ Hobgood (surfer), Dwight Howard (NBA player, Orlando Magic), Mick Hannah (downhill mountain bike racer), Jimmie McGuire (professional motocross rider) and more.

They share hard times they faced, how they became Christians and how their paths are more joyful due to their faith. Being a Green Bay Packer fan I turned to Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila's story of growing up in South Central Los Angeles with a tough background, a Muslim dad and a Christian mom, and how his becoming a Christian led to his current happy family life and NFL career. Christian Hosoi, professional skateboarder, after serious drug problems, is now leading a skateboarding ministry.

The two page "God's Road Map" at the end of each celebrity's story contains perceptive questions and Scriptures. Sports and music lovers will enjoy this book, and it can even be a "past watchful dragons book" that will steer doubting people on a new clear path.

3 out of 5 stars god unplugged.......2007-02-02

God Unplugged by Ammy Hagberg was very interesting. It is 403 pages long and was published in 2006 by Destiny Image. In the story top athletes, musicians, and also stars tell how god helped them get where they wanted to be and changed their lives.
In the story there were 44 celebrity reflections on true life experiences with god. Many of these celebrities have been extremely low in their lives and god has pulled them out of them. Also in some cases they have had no luck in there lives and finally achieved their goals after they gave there lives god. All of these people believe that god has either given them opportunities or even the strength to work through where they were to get to where they want to be.
I thought that this was a good book. I enjoyed reading it and seeing how god has changed all of these people's lives. The strengths of this book are that it has top named celebrities that people actually want to read about. The weakness of this book is that there is nothing to find out nest so you don't have a reason to keep reading. I did like how god actually gave them the strength to continue and succeed in life. The writing was very boring to me, but I liked the idea.
The book gave a lasting effect on me because I have a saint Christopher necklace that my grandma gave to me before she passed away and that keeps me safe when I race motorcross. So, I think that god has a great power on us. I would recommend this book, it will make you think.

5 out of 5 stars After reading this, you certainly KNOW he is real!.......2007-01-25

Truly, this, and the book before this, are really awesome books!
** Why?
Because they give some very good insights into other peoples way to God. Not only that, if you don't know the Bible inside and out (and even if you do, actually!), there are quotations from the Bible explaining the why and hows, depending on the story of the person interviewed.
All this, with Amy Hagbergs very nice way of writing (down to earth serious mixed with a nice blend of humor) makes this book a pleasure to read!
Personally, I strongly recommend this book to everyone. It might be those who Seek, or those who have found, it doesn't matter, in my opinion! :)

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic book!.......2007-01-24

What a great book! Amy Hagberg has gathered some of today's biggest sports and music celebs to talk about how they know God is real. This book is in stark contrast to so many of today's depressing, tragedy-focused headlines. And the list of celebrities is impressive! [...]

5 out of 5 stars Funny kid's boo.......2007-01-05

I teach second grade and used this book as a read-aloud for my class. The students loved this funny book and I will definitely be reading it again next year.

5 out of 5 stars Read this book back when I was 9-10.......2006-10-26

Despite the concerns raised about the "agenda" of this book, back when I was 8-9 it wasn't much of a concern. This is one of the few books I read back then that I remember, and notable as one of the even fewer that I really enjoyed. The book is well-written, funny and creative in its way of getting kids to imagine. Packed with imagery and humor, it'll hook a kid easily; something rare in books in the age of X-Box and PS2 (maybe the "agenda"-frightened people much prefer the "agenda" of Grand Theft Auto?).

As for me, I read this book about 3-4 times. I really enjoyed it. And for those scared that this book will give their kids "the gay", I'm quite straight. The only primary effect of the book was that maybe I largely stopped picking on girls so much and treated them more respectfully. And that's a maybe.

I don't know about the "agenda" people, maybe they'd prefer kids books portray their protagonists as tobacco-chewing, strutting wifebeaters or something.

5 out of 5 stars Marvin Redpost is so wierd!.......2006-05-18

I think you should buy this because there's lots of wierd stuff like when Marvin asked his sister, "Do I look like a girl?" My teacher said, "If you are paying attention you'll giggle." I'm like,"No books make ME giggle." But this one did. But that's just my opinion. By Katie

1 out of 5 stars Dangerous book? Only if missused to impose tolerance.......2006-04-13

Do not give any credit to the other comment below blathering about what is normal. This is not the first subject of the book. This is a funny book, no doubt about it. Children might laugh reading it.

Nevertheless, it may be shocking for younger children to discover that gender is something one can play with. If you give it to a child, this may raise questions that are rather out of the book itself (social problems, gender identity) which might make parents ill-at-ease. Such a book, funny as it can be, is not for younger children for the questions it raises. Especially if used as a way to impose a supposed to be tolerant behaviour that should not be imposed.
Reading this book is a piece of fun and must remain so, no more than the funny story of a young boy. It should never be used as a way to impose children specific ideas: children have the right to have fun reading, and still keep their right to have their own opinions, even if not the most "modern" of socially fashionable one.
It is only book for children, it must not be more. I rate it only one star because, in a text for children, it raises problems that cannot be truly understood by them. They are too young to understand, yet enough to be imposed opinions and prevented from thinking their own way about such problems.
They are plenty of good books for children of that age, even serious books and not "simple stories for babies". Therefore this one is far from being necessary.

5 out of 5 stars This book is very intresting.......2005-05-24

Casey sits by Marvin at school. And Casey said if you are a boy and kiss your elbow you will turn into a girl and the same with the girl. Then Marvin had a bad dream and woke up and SCREAMING and his mother, oh I mean "her" mother thought it was Marvin's little sister Linzy but it was Marvin. I am not going to tell you what happened at the end of the book. I really like this book because the ending is so good. You should read it! By Darbi

    Book Description

When most people hear the word "abuse," they naturally conjure up images of broken bones, black eyes, and bruises. But in truth, physical violence comprises the vast minority of abusive behaviors in any relationship. The overwhelming types of abuses are those that are difficult to recognize: verbal, emotional, psychological, financial, and spiritual.

Because no outward signs of mistreatment exist, these types of abuses usually go unnoticed, especially by the woman experiencing them. In particular, abusive comments often lead a woman in any unhealthy relationship to distrust her own reality and good sense.

But He Never Hit Me: The Devastating Cost of Non-Physical Abuse to Girls and Women exposes the truth about these destructive behaviors and also reveals the red flags of a potentially abusive relationship. Women can explore their own background information to understand what led them to these men, the shocking costs that non-physically threatening relationships have on every part of their life, and ways in which they can make changes toward a more positive, healthy, and rewarding future.

Imperative for women of all ages, from teens through senior citizens, But He Never Hit Me joins and aligns a large and supportive community of women dedicated to healthy, rewarding relationships.

3 out of 5 stars get the book.......2007-06-24

Up until this CD these were really fun to listen to and then for some reason the author decided to read them. The young lady who was reading them was wonderful and very funny. I really enjoyed listening to them. I'm not sure why the author decided to read them but she is so not a teenager and you really need a younger voice reading them not somebody who sounds like they are 50! It started out bad but then as she was reading she started to lose her voice and it got all scratchy and kind of higher pitched. I had to stop listening. So my recommendation would be to get the book NOT the CD.

    1 out of 5 stars Truly awful.......2001-07-08

Let me start by saying that I am not a Dennis Rodman fan. I can now say that I think he and the author were a perfect match. For about the first 2 chapters I felt some empathy for Ms Rodman, however, as I read further I discovered that she was an immature, self centered, physically abusive woman. She constantly trashes the other women in Dennis's life, while behaving the same way. By the end of the book I had lost all sympathy for her, and gained a true sense of pity for the child that she and Dennis have. It is a shame that trees were cut down to print this book.

5 out of 5 stars What people do for money, could just break my heart.......1999-08-11

America is truly the land of capitalism and opportunity. This chick has a baby by a known lunatic who abuses her, then writes a tell all story full of smut and filth, and then she has the audacity to expect us to feel sorry for her. Sorry!!!! I had a hard time seeing her as the victim, that cover is pure filth and ought to be burned. If my mother had the audacity to pose like that in a tell all smut fest like that I'd have a serious complex. No wonder Dennis dies his hair and cross dresses, with his dysfunctional upbringing and her as a wife and mother of his child I'd be a wacko too!!!!!

    5 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!!!!.......1997-08-27

this is a book that will keep you reading. I read it in a day.. and also read it again and again.. It's like a soap opera in a way, it makes you laugh, angry, sad, etc. It also makes you look at basketball (and sports in general) differently. I am a Dennis Rodman fan; but after reading this book, I'm more of a Anicka Rodman fan!!!!

    2 out of 5 stars Degreating.......1997-07-01

I did feel for Rodman in the starting but as the book progressed it became more and more into that same old rodman who in this book still boggles the mind to think what he doe
