Enchanting way to pass hours on the road.......2007-08-26
My daughters, ages six and eight, love these well produced radio dramas based on the C.S. Lewis classics. And I must say, my wife and I enjoy them as much or more than the kids.
We've found the series especially enjoyable on long road trips. Being audio-only, it keeps the children entertained, while allowing them to enjoy sights of our cross-country trips.
Now when we take long car trips, it has almost become tradition that we also journey through the enchanted land of Narnia using this great series.
FANTASTIC.......2007-08-08
Outstanding production, great cast, great music. One of the best audio drama's I have heard, and it was a hoot to see the grandkids sitting around the cd player(taking the place of an Atwater-Kent)getting lost in this fantasy world.Kids dont "need" to watch TV, just give them a great alternative! Highly recommended!!
Chronicles of Narnia (Radio Theatre).......2007-08-01
This is an excellent audio production of all the books from the Chronicles of Narnia. The sound effects and music are great. The production follows what was written by C. S. Lewis very accurately. These are great to listen to on long drives or commuting to work.
Fantastic Escapism!.......2007-07-22
Full cast, amazing sound, great stories - I have listened to these so many times now, total escapism for a typical Pisces!
Cronicles of Narnia CD collection.......2007-06-27
This CD collection is outstanding. On a 22 hour car ride, my 4 son's and I listened to it and all of us loved it! Just as entertaining for adults as it is for children. F.O.F made Cronicles come alive, much more exciting than hearing a book read, these let your imagination run wild. Also very interesting to have C.S. Lewis' step son introducing the production and giving some insight. Top quality production. Amazing value!!!! Highly recommended!!!

Miscommunication
Employee conflict
Work ethic debates
Loyalty issues
Varying wants and needs
If you are a manager, human resources professional, or business owner, you are faced with these types of issues every day. But why?
Because currently, there are five generations in the workplace: Radio Babies (born during 1930-1945); Baby Boomers (1946-1964); Generation X (1965-1976); Generation Y (1977-1991); even some Millennials (1991 and later). Each of them has a different perspective, based on their upbringing and daily lives. The key to making encounters between the generations successful is learning to understand the point of view of each generation and respect their differences.
The individuals and organizations that do this will be the ones to succeed. This book will show you how.
Authors Gravett and Throckmorton take a dynamic approach to the situation by writing in two distinct voicesas a Baby Boomer and a Gen-Xerusing a "point-counterpoint" approach to identify differences and similarities across generations.
They share hands-on experiences, real-life cases, recommended solutions, and ground-breaking research on how members of any generation can better relate to minimize conflict, miscommunication, and wasted energy. You will learn what each generation thinks of the others and how each wishes the others viewed it.
Bridging the Generation Gap is filled with strategies and solutions you can implement immediately to help build your own bridge between the generations.

Book Description
Brother and Sister Bear are not greedy children, but all the toys and candy on TV look so great! Mama Bear has to find a way to teach her cubs that they can't believe everything they see . . . before that pile of unused toys gets any bigger.
Customer Reviews:
Greedy Bears.......2007-07-25
Sister and Brother bear want EVERYTHING they see on the TV Commercials. Whether it is a new cereal or a new candy or a new toy or whatever. They want it and they HAVE to have it.
Mama Bear thinks she should unplug the TV, but then she would miss her show and Papa Bear would miss his.
The cubs keep pestering her to get the things in the Advertisements. So one day Mama decides to let them have everything they want off the TV commercial. They have to eat every bit of cereal and candy and play with all the toys for a month.
The cubs find out the cereal is gross, the candy is too sour, and the toys are lame.
They stop asking for things off the TV.
Great Books.......2007-06-08
My kids love these books. They are fun to read, and at the same time they teach them about daily values of life.
Very nice books for parents to share with their children.
Familiar characters, unique subject matter.......2007-04-13
Children love the Berenstain Bears-- the Berenstain bears have been a source of comfort before dentists' visits, shared important information about safety, and helped in times of transition like new schools or moves. This time, the friendly bears tackle the problem with commercials. Young children are exposed to commercials on TV, the radio, even at school-- this book deals with the "I need that because I saw it on TV" syndrome in a very clever, gentle, and clear way. Highly recommended.
Book Description
This is more than your average baby name book: unlike the dozens of mass-market paperbacks available, Town & Country Baby Names has the style and elegance to make an exquisite gift. Stunningly designed and produced, with charming line drawings throughout, it’s a lovely and useful resource at an excellent price. The introduction provides guidelines to consider when naming a baby, from researching the family tree for names to knowing the pitfalls of choosing a unisex or trendy name. Each entry includes the name’s origin and meaning (Claire comes from Latin, and means “clear and bright”; Stephen, from the Greek, means “crown”), and special features suggest possibilities such as Favorite Names from the Garden and Beloved Names from Children’s Literature.

Ordinary Baby Name Book.......2007-05-13
This book is definitely for the "Sarah and David" set. We were looking for something with a little more "panache" for our daughter and found the names in this book to be the requisite classics that you would expect from a book compiled by the publishers of "Town & Country" magazine. I will say that it was organized very well into specific sections, but I do recommend that if you are looking for a more original children's name, that you look at the "Beyond Jennifer & Jason, Madison & Montana" book.

Very Interesting.......2007-01-10
Focus on the Family has another quality product! We use audio books alot when traveling and this one is of course safe for the whole family, very thought and discussion provolking. I would recommend that children should be at least age 7 or so in order to follow the story. It is a very interesting way to interpret this Gospel. Our family has found it very enjoyable and we have listened more than once.
Book Description
After thirty years together, Cokie and Steve Roberts know something about marriage and after thirty distinguished years in journalism, they know how to write about it. In From This Day Forward, Cokie and Steve weave their personal stories of matrimony into a wider reflection on the state of marriage in American today.
Here they write with the same conversational style that catapulted Cokie's We Are Our Mother's Daughters to the top of the New York Times bestseller list. They ruminate on their early worries about their different faiths -- she's Catholic, he's Jewish -- and describe their wedding day at Cokie's childhood home. They discuss the struggle to balance careers and parenthood, and how they compromise when they disagree. They also tell the stories of other American marriages: that of John and Abigail Adams, and those pioneers, slaves and immigrants. They offer stories of broken marriages as well, of contemporary families living through the "divorce revolution". Taken together, these tales reveal the special nature of the wedding bond in America. Wise and funny, this book is more than an endearing chronicle of a loving marriage -- it is a story of all husbands and wives, and how they support and strengthen each other.

It takes a narcissist.......2004-05-04
It takes a narcissist of tremendous proportions to foist this scrapbook off on an unsuspecting public. On the plus side, Cokie Roberts does more than her usual cut and paste from the work of others in From This Day Forward. When not pulling from the work of others, Cokie (and the compliant Steve) offer up tidbits that are supposed to inform the reader how s/he too can have a great marriage.
Apparently the basic rule for a successful marriage is to live in your own little world the way kooky Cokie does. I doubt she realizes how racist she comes off in parts of the book. (Yes, Cokie, condescension is a form of racism.) Or how laughable most will find her book. Reading of the great "trauma" of her life, you realize this is someone who hasn't experienced many character building moments in her life. The great "trauma"? Learning that her new employer wouldn't provide a limo and that Cokie would have to take taxis around NYC. Oh, the horror! Oh, the shame! How did Cokie ever survive?
(Had she been told to take the subway, one gets the impression Roberts would have called it quits right then.)
A vapid celebration of what appears to be a vapid marriage isn't necessarily shocking -- what's shocking is that Cokie (and husband Steve) put their names to it. Had a child offered this slight volume as a souvenir to a wedding anniversary, we all would have "oooh"ed and "aaaawe"d over it. But for grownups to write such a book about themselves is the height of narcissism.
The book works best as anthropological study of When Gigantic Egos Mate.
A Wonderful Read.......2003-11-01
I always loved Cokie Roberts on TV and when I saw this book, I figured it would be fun to read about her marriage to Steve Roberts. I recommend this book highly to everyone thinking of marriage especially.
From the beginning I was drawn into this couple's world and liked the way they each expressed themselves in separate chapters. I found the entire book exciting, informative, inspiring, and so thankful that they took time to write about their unique marriage and how they make it work.
This is a refreshing book. A rare book about how a marriage can work. I've been married for fifty years and I know this couple will celebrate gold as well. Lots of love and best wishes to Cokie and Steve and thanks for sharing your busy happy loving life with us.
You'll be glad you read this book too.
Fun, light, cheery..........2001-09-26
I picked up this book for $5 at Borders, mainly because I enjoy listening to Cokie Roberts on NPR. I was curious to get to know her a little better.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book. She and Steve take turns writing, as if they're dialoguing back and forth. I appreciated their commitment to their marriage in a day when it's not all that popular to stay married to the same person.
I also enjoyed the glimpses into slave marriages and Old West marriages. I'm glad I picked up this book. It was a pleasant read for sure.
A boring book.......2001-06-05
A boring book filled with narratives, possibly copied from an encyclopedia, about historical figures. Apparently, stories from their own lives could only fill a few chapters of this book.

Book Description
Saturday Nights With Daddy at the Opry is both the story of growing up with a backstage pass to the entertainment world in Nashville as well as a heartwarming tale of a beautiful father-daughter relationship.
From the time she was a baby, Les Leverett, who was the official photographer for the Grand Ole Opry took his daughter, Libby, with him each Saturday evening to witness country music's greatest entertainers. Sometimes Libby carried his equipment, sometimes she played with the other children of Opry performers, but she was always observing.
Now some 40 years later, Libby Leverett-Crew touchingly remembers those Saturday nights with Minnie Pearl, Tex Ritter, Grandpa Jones, Roy Acuff, Dolly Parton, Porter Waggoner, Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, along with a few astronauts, muppets, ballet dancers, actors and actresses, and with Andy Warhol and kd lang thrown in.
Saturday Nights with Daddy at the Opry is a celebration of music and family-incredibly well written from one lucky daughter's perspective. Includes more than 100 photographs by Les Leverett.
Customer Reviews:
Very dissappointing .......2005-04-01
This promises to be something of a backstage look at the Grand Ole Opry, instead it's a more of a personal memoir with comments about country stars the author has known. While she writes quite a bit about Minnie Pearl, Grandpa Jones, Tex Ritter (hence the foreward is written by Tom & John Ritter, shortly before John's death), Dolly Parton, Porter Wagoner, Bill Monroe, Loretta Lynn, and John Hartford, and a few others are pictured and briefly commented on (Marty Stuart, Stringbean, Ricky Skaggs, The Whites, etc.) there are scores of Opry stars that don't even merit a mention. And over 35 of the "over 100 photographs" in the book are exclusively of Leverett-Crew's family without a star in the picture! And that's not counting the hefty amount of pictures that are with stars that also picture family members. Too bad the author did not just make this a book a history of her father's career (Les Leverett, a famed country music photographer) instead of this effort.
Enhanced with more than a hundred photographs.......2004-07-06
Saturday Nights With Daddy at The Opry by artist, writer, and photographer Libby Leverett-Crew is the biographical story of country music photographer Les Leverett as told by his daughter. As a little girl, Libby's father would take her along with him on his job as the official photographer for the Grand Ole Opry -- a position he held for over 30 years. This is not only a tribute to her father but also to the people (ranging from Dolly Parton and Minnie Pearl to Roy Acuff and Bill Monroe) who touched the lives of her family and the powerful impact a loving father has on the formative life of his daughter. Enhanced with more than a hundred photographs from her father, Saturday Nights With Daddy At The Opry is enthusiastically recommended reading -- especially for dedicated fans of the Grand Ole Opry.
Page-Turner.......2003-11-16
I picked it up to thumb through and couldn't put it down. It's beautifully written, full of photos, and absolutely fascinating. You don't have to be a country music buff to enjoy this book. It has great stories of many others from Andy Warhol to John Ritter. I felt like the proverbial fly on the wall. It's a must have, if only for the history lesson, but it's so much more.

Customer Reviews:
The Secret Garden.......2007-05-21
This kept me reading and I loved it. It killed me when ever I got to a good part I need to stop reading because it was the end of reading class. This book starts out sad but as the book went on the girl in the story was better then ever before.
Mary a girl who lived in India had some hard times since her parents had just died and she needed somewhere to go. She had to go to this place close to the moor This place was huge. She thought there must be thousands of rooms. She was right. In the middle of the night she gets up and walks around and hears some one crying and she goes through every room but still could not find that person. One day she did find him and his name was Colin. He was just a boy and thought he was a hunch back one. Mary loved it outside and she found a garden but inside the garden she was digging and found a key. She also found the door that goes with it. Her friend Dickon is helping fix it and it looks great. But she does eventually tell Colin and he wants to see it but Dickon needs to wheel him outside. As the days went on Colin decided he didn't need a wheel chair any more and soon started walking and running slowly and then racing. Colin's father was always so sad and then he came home and saw Colin walking and he thought it was a amazing and he was proud to call him his son.
This book is good for some one who likes to wait for surprises and likes gardens as well as happy endings from sad beginnings.
Secret Garden -Radio Theatre.......2007-01-30
Beautiful story with a great cast! Made my car ride fly by!
Excellent.......2006-02-23
Focus on the Family puts on the best Radio Theatre Productions - they're vivid and beautiful. The Secret Garden was one of those "beautiful" productions, truly excellent.
A disappointing adaptation..........2006-01-14
I'm giving this version 3 stars, as a sort of compromise with my kids, who both enjoyed it... I thought the production quality was fine, but the adaptation itself was very poor.
First, the story is changed to a first person narrative where Mary (now an old woman) tells the story. This might have been an acceptable framing technique, but changing the entire story to first person for no clear reason was awfully annoying. I would have far preferred a simple narrator and fewer changes to the text itself.
There was also a lot of "interpretation" that went far beyond the original text. I felt this version was "talking down to" me and my children, as if we couldn't possibly understand the story as written. ... Now I disagree with the previous reviewer who felt this version inserted Christian themes that had not existed in the original. On the contrary, I thought on that level it was quite close to the original. The only mention of anything religious is the scene in which the children sing the Doxology ("Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise Him all creatures here below. Praise Him above ye heavenly host. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.") which was pulled exactly from the novel.
My other objection was that none of the characters were particularly "hard" in the beginning. Mary, Mrs. Medlock, Ben Weatherstaff, etc, were all pretty darn sympathetic right from the beginning. Seeing them come to life is far less effective when they all seemed to be more or less alive to begin with. I wanted more change, more growth... I didn't need kinder, gentler characters with which to begin the story.
Over all it does follow the story pretty closely, but I felt keenly the loss of some of the original language and feel of the novel. I had enjoyed the Focus on the Family adaptations of the Chronicles of Narnia, but wish I hadn't spent money on this one.
Be careful --- this is not the original version!.......2004-03-15
The Secret Garden is a wonderful classic tale. I've read the original book, and seen two different movie productions of it. This "radio theater" version, however, is different. Apparently produced by Focus on the Family, it brings religion into a story that wasn't originally religious. To read the original, you wouldn't think of it as "Biblical" at all. What if Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island was rewritten so that Long John Silver viewed his piracy as an allegory for doing Christ's work in an imperfect world, and started carrying on about the Holy Spirit? This is not so different from what has been done with this Secret Garden version. For some, this could be a plus, but in case you are in the "other" category, let the buyer beware.
Customer Reviews:
The Legend of Squanto.......2007-04-05
My children and I listen to this as a Thanksgiving Traditon now, and even throughout the year.
It will be one of our Family Traditions from this point.
Thanks,
Great historical fiction.......2007-03-27
I enjoyed the audio. It brought to life the story of Squanto in an exciting drama.
Poor Quality.......2007-02-07
The story is great! Fantastic voice tallent as well. However, the quality is lacking. At the end of every chapter & beginning of the next, it skips or cuts off part of the dialogue. Amazon did send me a replacement copy, but it seems to have the same problems. Something no doubt in the production of these CD's. It's too bad really. So if you can deal with this flaw, I would encourage you buy it anyway because it is a good story. If you don't feel that you should support faulty merchandise, I applaud that too. Maybe Focus on the Family will figure this out and fix it.
