4 out of 5 stars Eight CAT tests on the CD-ROM are good........2004-03-08

This book comes with a very useful CD-ROM, which has eight computer-adaptive, actual-test-like diagnostic tests. The questions on these tests are very applicable to the GMAT, but the scoring is a little harsh, i.e. expect your actual GMAT score to be just a little higher than those on these diagnostic tests. Hence, the book itself is not spectacular, but it is worth buying just for the CD-ROM.

3 out of 5 stars The book is good but the CD is limited..........2003-10-20

I bought this book, the Kaplan 2004, the Offical GMAT Review, and the Princeton review book (ok, I went a little crazy on the book buying). The book itself was similar in content to the Kaplan and Princeton books, however, the CD was fairly lacking. If you were only going to buy one book, I'd recommend the official GMAT review book, then the Kaplan, then the Princeton, and then this book. This book was definitely worthwhile, but the limited CD made it my least favorite.

    Book Description

The Godgiven traits of cats quot; You exist to serve mequot; and dogs quot;I exist to serve Youquot; are often similar to certain theological attitudes held by many Christians in their view of God and their relationship to Him. Using the differences between cats and dogs in a lighthanded manner the authors challenge this thinking in deep and profound ways. This lifechanging book will provide a new perspective and vision for God as we delight in the God who delights in us.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant ministry that changed my life. .......2007-08-30

I think one reviewer at least missed it completely. Their conclusion that Bob is asking us to choose Bottom line of the New Covenant verses over and against Top line of the covenant verses is the Opposite to what he is saying and teaching. Cat & Dog Theology is not about replacing verses, or ignoring Gods love, but rather it is about correcting a Major Error in the church - that of a self-centred Christianity that focuses on blessings only and ignored the Purposes of God. He repeatedly emphasises 'incomplete' not wrong ! Yes God loves us, and there are a million and one resources telling us so, but where are the other resources talking about the other half of the truth?? Bobs seminar which I attended in Singapore in 2002 Changed my Life forever - God Bless him. I recommend you listen to his Seminar series on this. Gods purpose in Blessing us is to Bless all nations through us - a timely message for our comlacent self-centred church. I was guilty of exactly these errors but since Bobs seminar God has turned me around and as I put Him first and His mission first, I have been more blessed than I would ever have been had I sought only the blessings. We seek God because he is GOD and our lives are centred on Him for Hsi own sake not for our sake. !

3 out of 5 stars Sunday School Stuff.......2006-08-07

This is the basics folks. It's about serving God, not expecting God to serve you. I bought it as the authors were highly recommended to me by a friend, but I found it very "pedestrian".

I'd think youth groups of Jr. High School or High School level might like it.

    1 out of 5 stars Horrible.......2006-07-12

This book is exactly what is wrong with the church today. In this book, these two authors go way outside Scripture and introduce the reader to more psychobable and the devastating philosophy of man. There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end is death. The end of this book is death.

We cannot alter Scripture to have it fit our values. We must be transformed by the renewing of our mind. (Rom 12) God is God and He alone deserves our praise. Read the Bible, not this book!

1 out of 5 stars Masochistic Christianity at Its Finest.......2006-05-15

It's bad for you to pursue you own self-interest, happiness or prosperity. It's also bad to use biblical teaching to improve yourself by being a righteousness person. If you not completely and utterly focusing on God and other people--with no regard for your own well being--then you being practicing "meology". God is the only one who's allowed to be selfish, not you; you happiness doesn't matter to him when fulfilling His plans on earth. God wants you to suffer and possibly die to expand His kingdom on earth (a fate he's inflicted on millions throughout biblical history), and if you don't want to do so, then you're practicing "meology". Futhermore, absolute greatest calling for a Christian is . . . to make other Christians. So focus all your time, energy and money on evangelizing the world. If you don't feel called to evangelism halfway around the world, and instead choose to live your selfish modern American life trying to improve yourself and your immediate sphere of influnce, then you're practicing "meology".

If you just read the above paragraph, then you just saved $13.00 and several hours of your life by learning everything Cat & Dog Theology has to offer.

I hate criticizing other Christians, especially ministers, but I feel especially motivated against message these guys are sending to the rest of the Body of Christ. The flaws in Sjorgren and Robinson's books are evident to any honest, intelligent Christian:

    * The false dilemma presented between serving our own best interests and serving God's best interests. There the same thing! It's proper to criticise "solipsism" among so-called Christian, thinking that you are the only person who matters in the universe. But it is reckless to package deal this vice with pursuing your enlightened self-interest, that which is best for yourself. What's wrong with reading John 3:16 with a personal focus? Certainly God was focusing on us when he sacrificed his son. How does a human "serve God", the omnipotent being who can do or make everything He wants? Only by making ourselves the best humans possible, and living up to the fullness of the potential he has created in us. To criticise people who pursue their own good, and succeed in obtaining it, smacks of the vice even worse than selfishness--envy.

    * Kantian altriusm which consider a deed to be moral only if it's done for the good of others, and complete separates morality from the good of the person who is expected to be moral. Scripture makes very clear that following God's law will make us blessed (Deut: 28-1-14), and that the those blessings are imputed on us through Jesus' sacrifice.

    * A hyper-Calvinism which imputes all suffering to God's malvolence and dismisses the influence of human immorality, will or action. The Israelites were enslaved in Egypt for nine generations because God willed it, not because of the unrighteousness of the Egyptians or the Israelites. Stephen, Peter and Paul were persecuted, tortured and martyred because that the way God wanted it. Never mind the Pharisees, Greeks and Romans who actually stoned, tortured, and persecuted them. The debate between pre-destination and free-will is a complex one, but human will and morality must count on some level for our suffering. Why else would God give us moral commands, and impute blessings and cursings on us by whether we follow them or not?

    * Over-emphasis on evangelism. No everyone is called to directly evangelize the world, but some are called to lead quiet, stationary and/or productive lives, and be a witness to God's glory in that manner. Along with The Great Commission is The Cultural Mandate in Gen 1:26-28 to work, to cultivate and develop the earth God has created. Christianity is not just some MLM designed to recruit the entire world to be Jesus salesmen, but a way of life in all stations.

It is in my enlightened self-interest to know God, to be blessed by him in every way possible, and to be the person he wants me to be. For purely selfish reasons, I want to avoid eternal hellfire at all costs. It is also in my self-interest to spread his word and truth in the ways he has gifted me to do so, since I derieve satisfaction from seeing God glorified in the world. That's the way God constructed me, and all of us.

Sjogren's teachings showcase the fundamental flaw with the modern American church. The modern American Christian works in extremely hard six-days-of-seven to improve his life, his world, and himself. On the seventh day, he goes to church and has a preacher tell him he's greedy, self-absorbed, and adding nothing to the Kingdom of God. Then he passes the plate to help pay his salary.

The actors in our modern capitalist society have produced unprecedented wealth and happiness; they've fed more hungry, cured more sick, and clothed more poor than godly men have by miracles alone. The church--and especially the aloof and unsupportative church leadership--needs to come to terms with this reality and give thanks to the "meologists" who make their ministries possible.

2 out of 5 stars Good Idea sours.......2005-11-26

Appreciate these guys for their intent however I was quite disappointed in the book. At first I thought it would be a great metaphoric reference and explore the curious dimensions of our "aspects" towards God but then it went into a straight-forward pietistic enjoining that left me feeling like I'd been suckered into it. I will hand to book to someone who doesn't mind that however--all in all an interesting pietistic read but it doesn't do much more than rehash old stuff. Not original as it portends to be.

    1 out of 5 stars Not Recommended.......2004-06-04

The book has too much material, which mostly is useless. 592 pages of boring and exhausting suggestions that lead to nothing except somewhat improved ability to handle lengthy boring passages. Perhaps not completely bad afterall :-) The tests are too easy, esp math - I used to get the max. Makes you confident for a few minutes until Kaplan hands you your fanny with 600 written all over it. Verbal is not close to the Real GMAT. CR is screwed up - the logic does not go the right direction and several of my friends agree with me, it is not just me; SC is not focused on the style but rather on the grammar portion, which is not tested as strongly on the GMAT.

And yes, the software is not something to be happy about. If you used this book and found it helpful, I will be very interested to hear about it.

    -Bogdan.

4 out of 5 stars Accurate Scoring... Cd needs a little work.......2003-05-12

Let me start off by saying that I used Arco in conjunction with Kaplan CD prep. On 3 practice tests, Arco gave me a score range of 640-660. Kaplan tests were 530, 560, & 590. ETS official practice test was 660. Official real GMAT score... 650. ARCO was right on the money as to where I stood.. Kaplan was WAY OFF.
The CD contains 6 practice tests, in my opinion about half of what you need to practice for the real thing. The layout of the screen is almost identical to the real thing. The only problem I found was that when doing long passage reading in the verbal section, you can't scroll one line at a time... you push the down arrow and it JUMPS way down. Sometimes you have to play around with it to be able to read all the words... all of which cost you valuable time.
The book was very good for learning sentance correction techniques as well as math practice. All in all, the combo of the book and CD was very good, but I would recommend grabbing either the Kaplan or Princeton Review CD as well. 6 Practice tests with Arco, 4 with Kaplan , and 2 from the official ETS... that's just about right.

3 out of 5 stars Good try but rushed to market unfinished........2002-10-29

This animal has been rushed to market too soon. The setup menu is straight forward with the exception that it does not tell you we were setting up. The last feature on the menu says coming soon and there is nothing there.

There is a CD that comes with this book; however the quality control is very poor. The speaker stammers once in awhile and backtracks. At first they show you an example and talk about the example. Later they talk about the example and do not show you an example. Still further on, they tell you the choices that they made but do not show you what they need to choice from.

Just see your were you will need to have internet access to perform any of the functions in the book. The paper part of the book for the GMAT is well written and designed. Is the CAT part that really needs to be rethought.

    Book Description

Often misunderstood and sometimes misjudged, cats remain the most mysterious of our domesticated companions. Yet with a little patience and a lot of love, cats will enter your hearts on soft paws and remain there with an infinite amount of devotion. Author Karen Anderson explores some of the mistakes cat owners may unknowingly make while raising their feline friends. She also tells how to correct undesirable behaviors while at the same time forging a bond of trust and affection that will remain throughout your lives together. In an original format, the text is segmented into vignettes of behavioral descriptions and methods for interacting more rewardingly with your cat, each with an accompanying photograph. Page after page of insightful text and colorful photographs capture these wonderful animals in both their daily routines and frisky, playful behaviors - in short, doing what makes a cat a cat. A must-read for cat lovers everywhere, this book will change the way you look at our furry friends.

5 out of 5 stars Love this book - title should be changed however!!.......2006-11-13

There are two things wrong with this fine book: it's hardcover and thus, may come across as merely a 'coffee table book' with less text value. Not true! Secondly, the title perhaps suggests a book that is all 'sing song' and full of mushy cat ramblings. Completely false! 'Cats Have No Masters...Just Friends' should be titled something like, 'How to Have an AWESOME Relationship with your Cat.' There is no possible way that one could read this book and not substantially (if not radically) improve life with a cat. So much is covered in this book that is truly original - from Ms. Anderson's section on the (often overlooked) differences between cats and dogs, to dispelling cat myths, to the very detailed, practical, fun chapters on exactly how to treat your cat to bring out the best in feline-human friendship, this well-written book is an absolute MUST HAVE for any person with a cat. First time cat owners should read this book before getting a cat. Long time cat owners will smile and learn from the wisdom and humor on these pages. By the way, there are wonderful color photographs on each page, perfectly illustrating the lively text. This book is a gem. Treat yourself, treat a friend, don't miss this one!!

1 out of 5 stars Beware the evil software...it *will* destroy your system..........2004-09-16

This is a perfectly good prep course, ruined by horrid software. I bought the version expressly designed for Windows. For inexplicable reasons, the CD with the practice tests uses the Mozilla browser, which is highly incompatable with Windows. When you install the software, Mozilla will destroy all IE and Netscape settings you may have, and causes the performance of your entire system to degrade by a factor of 2x to 5x, depending upon the application. That's because much, if not all, Windows software uses IE, NOT Mozilla. You'd think that if the software was designed for Windows, they'd use Windows-optimized software plug-ins. But...no. Furthermore, the uninstall program doesn't work; it crashes about 30 seconds into the cycle, so you can't remove it OR Mozilla from your system. In short, you are sent into bit-bucket hell. If the software was as good as the book, I would be giving a very different review.

        Book Description

Two feline brothers fight to become the ruler of their species

Tension is growing between the Ferals and Indoors, and the old Cat Master, spiritual leader of all felines, is dying. Time is running out, and he must choose a successor that will rule wisely and keep peace among their kind. Of all his descendents there are only two brother that are qualified: Jett, the powerful, ambitious Feral who has survived the perils of the alley, and quiet, complacent Buddy, who was rescued by a human and now lives the pampered life of an Indoor. With his last breath, the old cat decides. He alerts Buddy through mind-talk. "Rise from the alley, my son," he commands. "Of all my blood, you are The Chosen." But his message is intercepted telepathically, and Darkness suddenly reigns in the cat world. Driven by jealousy and desperation, brother is pitted against brother in the fight to rule their species . . . a struggle that will confront Buddy's deepest fears and threaten the lives of those he loves most. Against a backdrop of dangerous alleyways and a scorching Texas summer, Buddy discovers the power of friendship, the lure of evil, ant the knowledge that no peace can come without sacrifice.

        5 out of 5 stars What a good read . . ........2007-07-31

I can literally spend hours searching for a good book. Sometimes I get lucky. The Cat Master is a fantastic read. Every page is filled with adventure, witty dialogue, humor, pathos ~ and all from the animals' perspective. The conflict rests inside Buddy, the main character who must fight the desire to remain an 'indoor' or seek his rightful place 'outdoor' in the animal world. New author Bonnie Pemberton has created a menagerie of quirky, funny characters, including Orie a lizard who believes himself to be far bigger and better than his small stature represents. I highly recommend this wonderful hero's journey for young and old, a story of good vs. evil, love and loss, failures and triumphs. Buy this book. You won't be disappointed.

        5 out of 5 stars Amazing read!.......2007-07-08

Bonnie Pemberton has penned a real gem in THE CAT MASTER!

This book is a great read for anyone, a true cross-over novel, not just to be enjoyed by young adults. I would recommend it to ANYONE, especially those who have a deep love of animals and wonder what drives them to do what they do.

This well-written text with excellently drawn characters makes me eagerly await Pemberton's next novel.

        5 out of 5 stars Engaging.......2007-06-27

This is the first book in a while that I have read thru at one all night sitting. It has all the elements needed to make it a best seller whether for a child or an adult. it's beautifully written and emotionally engaging. I am anxious to read more from this author

5 out of 5 stars Rare prose that jump off the page.......2007-06-17

Descriptions so real and imaginative they inspire this page turning novel for cat lovers and non cat lovers alike because of their crisp fluidity. Wonderful chapters leave you hanging on by a claw. This story is a fun ride for people of all ages. I would recommend this book to anyone wishing for a fun summer read. It has excellent word choices that will keep YA readers interested until the end. There is just enough spice to lure in the YA readers who may be reluctant to engage in a fantasy type novel. I would recommend this book to my high school students as well as my friends and family. I loved it.

4 out of 5 stars City Streets Filled with Danger.......2007-06-08

"The Cat Master" shows the reader a world filled with danger that is imposed on man's tamed creatures. These dangers are more often than not created by the very civilization which has tamed them. I found this book an enjoyable read and one that I wanted to ready quickly, but ended up taking it slow. Lots to think about, fun for adults as well as older children.

4 out of 5 stars Fine for me.......2007-07-31

I must have been moving too fast to take much notice of the errors the other reviewers mentioned. I found Arco's GMAT prep book and CD to be a very useful review and preparation for the logic and math on the GMAT.
Not having time for a formal prep course I bought this book, scheduled my GMAT with the testing center, and worked quickly through the book. Having the test scheduled and my money paid was a good way to get myself moving. The book seemed clear and straightforward. There is a lot of review of the questions given in the practice tests. It helped me start to think like the test writers and look for the subtleties in the questions. It did not give me a new brain, and I was not surprised to see my final scores reflect how I have done on other standardized tests.
Get the book, take the test, get back to school. You will be glad you did.

1 out of 5 stars Wrong, wrong, wrong! Shameful!.......2005-11-25

How can this test prep help you learn when there are so many errors? It was a waste of time! I'm shocked at the lack of quality control for this product. It would take too long to explain all the errors I found in just one small section of one test but the grammatical errors were GLARING. I erased it from my computer immediately after taking just that one section because I couldn't trust that any other material would be accurate. Try checking your local library to sample a lot of different test preps if you can. Shame ARCO!

3 out of 5 stars It contains many mistakes and not much explanation.......2005-01-24

I am a foreign student preparing for the GMAT. The answers in this book are not all accurate and that creates a lot of confusion because you will not understand what you did wrong. Also the explanations are not what I would like to get me prepared for the GMAT. I am going to buy the Kaplan and ETS books to study. There is a saying in my country that says
