5 out of 5 stars ABSolutely worth a look........2007-09-23

This book reminds me a lot of "Body For Life." It has a very workable plan to lose weight and the diet and exercise strategies are clearly laid out and explained in sufficient detail. Readers will find plenty of pictures too of the exercises that they are instructed to do. Motivational in nature, it's laid back writing style should appeal to many. Readers who like this book might also be interested in The Sixty-Second Motivator to help keep up their motivation to diet. Good luck!

5 out of 5 stars Abs Diet is an easy lifestyle.......2007-09-20

This is an easy to follow, straightforward eating and exercising lifestyle. It is not a diet, but a smart way to eat to maintain a healthy weight and great for your overall well-being. I had followed the same guidelines as outlined in Men's Health magazine and lost over 100lbs.to bring me to a normal weight and 6% body fat.

5 out of 5 stars Good Insight.......2007-09-18

I like the fact that the authors explain how things work in our bodies (how protein intake relates to the increased metabolism resulting from the workout, and to the muscle growth; which foods are good for metabolism; which of them aid in weight loss or lowering cholesterol levels). Although the idea of having six meals a day does not always fit my busy schedule, the one of snacking with fruits and/or nuts between main meals does seem to be effective in my case. What I like most about the book is the well balance diet that does not exclude any food groups. I am a great believer in the nourishment based on natural foods and The Abs Diet fully supports this belief. Dr. Tombak in the book "Can We Live 150 Year" farther explains proper food combination and its effect on our bodies. For that reason his book is a very good addition to The Abs Diet.

4 out of 5 stars Confused about the low fats.......2007-09-16

The book overall is good, but the sections about eating fats confused me.
First he talks about the 1980's war against fat, and he says they were wrong, and that fats are good because without fats you cannot get your fat soluble vitamins, A, D, E, and K. I agree. But, then he says saturated fats are bad, and saturated fats are in milk and meat which is also the best protein sources. So I just want to know why he is advocating low fat when he says low fat diets are bad. He does recommend olive oil, nuts and fish because of the fats in those. I believe that whole dairy is better for you than skim, because it's more natural and less processed. Altering natural foods is what got us into trouble in the first place.

I do understand about choosing leaner meats because we fatten the cows by feeding them way too many grains and it increases their fat deposits, which is unnatural.

Also he recommends eating lunch meat, and lunch meat has an awful lot of chemicals, unfortunately.

I would have liked a recommendation of what to look for in a whey protein powder, because I had never purchased any before.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent source on nutrition..........2007-09-12

I am a subscriber of Men's Health magazine and am very familiar with the author. I know this author is excellent. This book explains, in great detail, nutrition and how the body processes food. It also provides rather basic excercises that anyone can do. Yep, I need to lose weight about 20 pounds. I am not a big "restrictive diet" person becuase I have tried them and failed in the long run. What this book really is about is eating better(more healthy), changing our eating habits and excercising - very basic. It gives you a diet plan to follow which is rather easy...eat six small balanced meals a day to keep your metabolisim running. This book heavily emphasizes custom "smoothies" (all with whey protein in them) as regular meal substitute but, personally, I am not a shake/smoothie fan. I am not a big fan of "cold" food either. Luckily the book gives you recipes for "hot" food you can make and they are easy to make. Please be aware that you need to excercise often if you use the shakes becuase of the whey protein and peanut butter in some of them. If you don't you will get even fatter.
Monotony is also a problem with diets so I also recommend the "6 minute meals for 6 packs abs book" as well. It gives you even more recipes. Realistically I can't imagine getting 6 pack abs in 6 weeks. I can see an already skinny person who might have gained a few pounds to accomplish this in that time frame but heavier people will take longer.
Overall it is a great read and helps you form a base for healthy eating and excercising.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Book in Gitomer's latest .......2007-09-27

I think this is a great book for anybody that needs an attitude adjustment or not. It is just a very good book with exercises in the book to help you realize what you are doing that could be setting you back or negative. Or what you are not doing that can help you improve and be more positive. It makes you think and ponder. Most people think they have a positive attitude. You may be surprised after taking his evalution tests whether you are. This book helps you go from a positive attitude to a Yes Attitude which is even better. Read the book it is definitely worth your time. And then say YES!

1 out of 5 stars Not Impressed.......2007-08-29

Maybe 5 pages out of the whole book ENCOURAGED you to BECOME Positive with a YES attitude. The rest of the book was FLUFF.

He writes books...that's his job. He needs to sell books to buy the Beemer.

Did this book help me become MORE Positive?..... NO

Did it tell me how to become MORE Positive?..... NO.

So I went ahead and bought the "Magic of Thinking BIG" from Amazon instead.

ONE STAR because I liked the cover of the book.
Very overpriced and does NOT deliver.

4 out of 5 stars I have to admit... it's helpful.......2007-08-14

Honestly, I wanted to dislike this book. It seemed shallow and more like a powerpoint presentation than a book.

Let's start: too simplistic, dumbed-down. Obvious. A rehash of what I already know. A huckster pushing a product...

But I have to admit that I just found it useful. I actually started to read it for 15 minutes a day in the morning - every weekday. And I actually found that it did help my attitude, that it did help me move forward and respond more positively to those around me. That it did help me take an extra moment when I am about to say something negative... and think it over.

I've started adopting various ideas from the book... and they help.

I'm almost embarrassed by liking this book. But it has been worth 10x the cover price to me.

In the end - well, I just will say "thanks".

5 out of 5 stars Yes Attitude.......2007-08-11

This book was awesome. Very easy to read and FULL of inspirational things to think about and actions to take. I bought this book for all my employees to remind them to keep their "Yes" attitudes!

5 out of 5 stars Another great book from Jeffrey Gitomer.......2007-07-23

Again another great book from Jeffery Gitomer. I discovered him lately, however I consider him one of the greatest contemporary writer about sales and motivational. Like other books also the Little Gold Book of YES! Attitude is easy to read, I am not a native English speaker, direct to the subject, full of common sense and the last, but not the least, 100% applicable everyhwere.

Book Description

This Is Not the Life I Ordered is for anyone who has ever felt overworked, overwhelmed, or just plain unlucky (and, who hasn't?!). Through this collection of stories, wisdom, and practical advice, readers will meet four ordinary women who have faced extraordinary life challenges. Together, they have a history of six marriages, ten children, four stepchildren, six dogs, two miscarriages, two cats, a failed adoption, and foster parenthood. Two have lived through the death of their spouses and one was shot and left for dead on a tarmac in Guyana -- which is documented in "Jonestown" airing on PBS' American Experience

This book started simply with four friends getting together for "kitchen-table coaching sessions" to talk about their lives. Week by week and story by story, they realized their great advice to each other could help other women struggling with life's myriad issues of work, family, and love, as well as the big questions of life and death. For over a decade, the power and strength of their collective friendship enabled these women not only to survive but to thrive. They invite readers to join them to learn how they, too, can turn "misfortunate" events into joy-filled opportunities. Readers will want to share this book with every woman in their lives!

* Authors are best-selling business-book author, Deborah Collins Stephens; Emmy winner Jan Yanehiro; State Senator Jackie Speier; and entrepreneur Michealene Cristini Risley whose Flashcards was screened at last year's Cannes Film Festival.

* Authors' support circle includes Debbi Fields, Kristi Yamaguchi, Danielle Steele, Gerry Laybourne, and other power women.

* Features practical "Wit (Women in Transition) Kit" tips at the end of each chapter to help readers to be their own life coaches.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent strategies.......2007-09-12

I found this book to be very helpful as I tried to navigate through a very difficult time in my life. It gave real examples of situations that were much worse than my own, and provided practical ideas for moving forward.

5 out of 5 stars This Is Not the Life I Ordered: 50 Ways to Keep Your Head Above Water When Life Keeps Dragging You Down.......2007-08-14

This book is so inspirational! One of the best books I have read! I highly recommend it to all women and men. I plan on getting copies for my family and women friends. Thanks ladies for sharing your life stories and the stories of so many different and unique women. You are all an inspiration! God Bless

5 out of 5 stars It's Not About Being Average.......2007-08-10

Let's face it - we all come to a point where we think, "This is not what I wanted out of life." This book is for anyone who is at that point or has experienced a personal tragedy that has continued to haunt them. Anyone could read this and instantly identify the vast gap between the average American woman and the authors whose personal stories are shared within its pages, but the point of the book is not to point out who has it worse when dealing with bad situations (a new widow in suburbia or a cmpany executive losing a 6-figure income). The point is actually to give you an idea of just how bad things can be and how you can rise above anything. The basic information provided in the "action steps" apply to just about any situation. There are fantastic motivational quotes throughout and excellent ideas for how to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and get going again, no matter what your circumstances. Even if you are feeling negative and pessimistic, this book can help you find positivity and optimism from those people and places that already surround you. I have recommended this book to several friends who have already read and enjoyed it just as much as I did. I returned mine to the library and promptly bought my own copy (as well as a few extras for gifts)!

1 out of 5 stars Did I read the same book as the rest of you?.......2007-07-30

I stumbled across this book while doing research for a book I am writing. I actually wanted to use the same title for a collection of humorous essays, and then felt compelled to read this one. I am only halfway through it and am exhausted from slogging through the overabundance of headings and subheadings in each chapter, the overuse of quotations, and the endless posturing and patronizing from unrelatable situations that so few women will ever face - shot in South America while disbanding a cult, crying over the loss of a $200,000 job, escaping the Khmer Rouge. How is an average American woman supposed to connect with these stories? I am sure every woman mentioned in this book is courageous, intelligent and generous. But the disjointed writing and sloppy editing make it a chore to find their true essence and a message to carry with me. I had such high hopes for this book. I am glad now that I merely borrowed it from the library rather than purchased it. I do enjoy the cartoons, though.

5 out of 5 stars If You're a Woman, You Need This Book!.......2007-07-18

I just finished reading "This is Not the Life I Ordered," by Deborah Collins Stephens, Jackie Speier, Michealene Cristini Risley and Jan Yanehiro and all I can say is get this book!

This book touches every human aspect possible and carves out a whole new way of looking at life. It shows the power of connecting with women on all levels. These four authors weave in their life stories as well as countless other women's life stories into a book that will become your inspiration to get through the hard times, define your life, enrich the lives of others and live your life to the fullest.

It's the kind of book that you will buy for your friends so you can connect with them on a newer, deeper level.

It's the kind of book that you will read over and over again to receive a renewed strength, sense of self and desire to do more, be more and have more.

4 out of 5 stars Good idea, but overpromissing.......2007-09-24

There is one thing that I absolutely agree with Ann Luise - the amount of chemicals that we are exposed to in our daily lives is overwhelming. I think that cleansing our bodies from them ("unchemicalizing ourselves") from time to time is a very good idea.

There are several other authors that pointed to this problem in the past. There are also a few who suggested better or worse cleansing solutions. One author dealing extensively with this topic in her few books is Hulda Clark. Gittleman's Detox Diet is only a good addition to the anthology. I do, however, have a problem with the "eight pounds weight loss in a day" idea. Isn't this just a little over-promising?

My favorite author dealing with this topic is Mikhail Tombak who offers total body cleansing solutions (starting with the liver, via kidney, intestines, bones and joints, and ending with blood) in one of the chapters of his book "Can We Live 150 Year?" At the same time Mr. Tombak does not promise losing weight overnight...

5 out of 5 stars More about detox , than weight loss.......2007-07-13

I'm a big of Ann Gittleman. I have all her Fat Flush books. I think that the information they provide is invaluable. I learned a lot from reading her books. I've had success with this book and the Fat Flush Plan. To be honest, I did not lose the weight that I expected to lose from this detox diet. As one reviewer points out, it takes a lot of other factors to help you lose weight. However, the detoxification that I got was worth more than the extra pounds of weight loss. My actual weight loss came from Fat Flush. But, Fast Track helped to make my liver and colon much healthier. On this detox diet, sometimes it was hard for me to find a food within each of her categories that I liked, but I did my best. I liked the Miracle Juice, and it was easy to prepare. I really didn't think it was that bad. The detox day didn't affect me in any adverse way. I ate the next day, but I wasn't ravenous. To anyone who is thinking about purchasing this book, just know in advance that this book will help you in many ways, but it is a very tough 11 days. Just make sure that you're up to it before you begin. Also know that because it says that you COULD lose up to 8 pounds doesn't mean that you will. All I can tell you is that I enjoyed this book, and I will use it again to detox. Five stars for detoxification!

2 out of 5 stars Not really "One-day" as it claims.......2007-04-25

Having lived in Germany I was already familiar with the idea of quick fasts and fasting groups to cleanse the body and periodically offset weight gain. I haven't tried this one because it seemed pretty complicated and requiring lots of effort, planning and the purchase of special stuff like supplements. I was also pretty put off when I read that there was a highly structured 7-day "prequel" to the detox. One-day huh?

3 out of 5 stars Suprise eating health makes you feel better..........2007-03-29

Long term weight\fitness changes require long term effort.

That being said nothing like a jumpstart, new book, fad diet to get you going.

5 out of 5 stars The Everything Glycemic Index Cookbook.......2007-08-23

All the recipies we have tried so far are great. We are using in in connection with weight watchers, losing weight and my husbands sugar level is staying stable.

    5 out of 5 stars Nummy!.......2007-07-17

Easy recipes, easy to understand how it works with the Glycemic Index concept, and good for diabetics and hypoglycemia as well. Love the cottage cheese and tomato breakfast, as well as the Saturday Eggs, and Dieter's Delight (egg whites packed full of veg, and only 28 calories!). The Chicken Francoise with Fine Herbs was amazing, and far simpler than I thought.

Some recipes aren't so 'standard', but that's what adds to the appeal...tons of "normal", and plenty of "special recipes" to keep it fun and interesting. Majority of ingredients are found in my local grocery store, and the few left over are easily removed/replaceable, or found at an ethnic market, whole foods market, or butcher shop not far away.

Well written, maybe needs to be organized slightly differently, but I don't have any suggestions in that regard aside from taking it to the basic ideas of Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack, Dessert, Beverage, etc...rather than some of the odd (true, but odd for your standard Jane Doe) categories it currently shows (keep all the recipes...just put in more "typical" category headings to aid in knowing what is meant for what kind of meal, etc).

    3 out of 5 stars Good.......2007-07-12

Very simple and easy to follow, packed with recipes, some a little repetative. But I do feel it was value for money..

    2 out of 5 stars Not a book I'll be using frequently.......2007-05-17

A lot of the recipes tend to include ingredients that are not readily available -- many cookbooks will suggest more common substitutes, but this one doesn't. Many recipes take far more time than I care to spend on preparation for everyday meals. I found only a handful of the recipes to be appealing.

Also, if you don't own (or care to own) a food processor, this book isn't for you -- nearly every recipe involves one in some way.

Finally, the way the book itself is laid out makes the recipes difficult to follow while cooking.

    4 out of 5 stars Nice Cookbook.......2007-05-14

Some of the recipes I probably won't use, but the recipes I do use are pretty tasty.

In this third installment in the popular Fish! series, the authors examine change as a necessary, ongoing process that should never stop--at least not if one wants to keep the workplace vital and fully alive. Using a fictitious sushi restaurant as an example, this fable examines the three principles that Lundin, Christensen, and Paul believe are necessary for continuing success: Find It ("it" being each employee's personal vision of the business), Live It, and Coach It. Readers of the authors' previous books--Fish! A Remarkable Way to Boost Morale and Improve Results and Fish! Tales--should find its familiarity comforting. For those new to the series, this standalone volume is easy to read and highly valuable. --David Bombeck

    Book Description

he 'o-FISH!-al' follow-up to the phenomenal bestselling Fish! and Fish! Tales, Fish! Sticks is a stand alone business parable that shows you how to come up with a vision for your business and how to keep it alive, vital, and renewed through tough times, such as turnover in management and staff or a troubled economy. Using the example of a hugely successful, fictional sushi restaurant as a model for a vision of continual renewal, Fish! Sticks employs the same kind of easy-to-read story that was used in Fish! to illustrate its three major principals of continued success: Commit, Be it, and Coach it. When Stephanie, a new manager, takes over from a wildly popular and now promoted boss, she is faced with the problem of how to keep spirits up in a corporate unit that has, frankly, started to get bored and cranky and revert to its old ways. But then she visits the amazing Taka Sushi (formerly Taka Teriyaki), with its lines of customers cheerfully waiting for hours to get in. Soon, she realizes that the way to keep her employees motivated and her customers delighted can be learned from a bunch of waiters who teach one another everything they need to know. And when she finds out just how the owner of Taka knew to switch her main bill of fare from teriyaki to sushi long before anyone else, what she really discovers is the secret of keeping your work fresh.

4 out of 5 stars IT means: Find Purpose, Live Identity, Coach Accountability.......2007-08-19

An easy read and good use of the fable to emphasis an often overlooked part of performance management; the importance of each individual finding a piece of their Me Inc. vision within the Business Inc. vision. Although authors Lundin, Christensen, and Paul never use the term Me Inc. in this fable about sustaining a performance transformation within the 6th-floor neurological care ward of Good Samaritan Hospital (Business Inc. in the fable), referring to the connection as IT; they clearly convey the message that sustainable performance is only possible when individuals find their IT within the wards vision of customer care.

Recognizing that sustainable motivation/energy can only be created when individuals connect their purpose, identity, and accountability with their business's performance vision, the authors show how the employee's must Find IT thru individual conversations, Live IT by putting their unique identity into action, and hold each other accountable thru a Coach IT process unencumbered by hierarchy. While fables can only go so far in conveying the complexity of organizational effectiveness, this fable brings a critical piece of the puzzle to the front. It is recommended for use with teams as the next step after the initial visioning and performance goal setting processes of performance management. After reading about this book I was excited by the opportunity to get some more insight into the "Fish!" world, and I was especially interested in learning about `how to make change stick'. I liked how the book was another "fable" type story, and thought that this might make another good Book Club selection for our company book club.

Well, I read the book, and although I thought it had some merit, it was not nearly as easily accessible and distillable to the same audiences as the first "Fish!" book was. I was still glad I bought the book, and I did get something out of it, but I had real trouble imagining trying to pass this message on to others in our company.

I will say this, though. One message that came out of this book and that hit me loud and clear was that for "change" to stick, the meaning of the change has to be personalized to each individual, and it has to mean something to them, because once all the bells and whistles of the program are gone, and the initial excitement dies down, it will be impossible to keep a culture change program going unless others can relate to it personally and continue to buy into it on a day to day basis.

So, I thought THAT message was valuable and worth buying the book for, but I don't think I will be passing this out at our next book club. It was just not a book that was otherwise easily understandable to a much wider audience.

However, if you haven't read the original "Fish!" book yet, I HIGHLY recommend it...

    Book Description

No more punch lines that just slipped away. No more names on the tip of your tongue. No more senior moments! Drawing on cutting-edge neurological research, how to keep your brain alive: 83 neurobic exercises brings help to everyone whose memory is starting to slip. Devised by Dr. Lawrence Katz, a professor of neurobiology at Duke University Medical Center, and Manning Rubin, author of 60 Ways to Relieve Stress in 60 Seconds, here is a regimen of mental cross-training that can be done anywhere, by anyone, at any time of day. The premise is simple: When you exercise the brain, you release natural growth factors called neurotrophins, which in turn enhance the brain's level of fitness. And nothing so easily stimulates the brain as breaking routines and using the five senses in new and unexpected ways. So if you're right-handed, wake up tomorrow and brush your teeth with your left hand. Or close your eyes before you get into the car and then get the key into the ignition. Every time you open a new circuit in your brain, it's like doing a round of mental sit-ups, without the pain.

Might well be a recipe for ulcers , heart attacks and strokes:
reminds me of the latest fad diet. The Complete Scarsdale Medical Diet: Plus Dr. Tarnower's Lifetime Keep-Slim Program
Taking advantage of an aging generation of baby boomers who worry
about their future is somewhat reprehensible.
In my psychology class we had to study
a case history of monkey's that psychologists gave ulcers by " shaking things up a bit".
Stone age hunter gathers mostly lived to a ripe old age of 25:
so emulating them is probably very bad advise.
Point by point the book's prescriptions can be one for an early death

"Keep Your Brain Alive" offers some fairly standard advice on how to keep the mind agile as one ages. You've heard it before--be social, learn new things and new ways of doing routine tasks, use all the senses. The unique aspect of this particular book is the suggested exercises, but here the author veers away from the practical a little too strongly for my taste. He's big on exercising the sense of smell, and recommends driving around with a bunch of bottles with fragrance soaked pieces of sponge. Then uncork a particular one when you pass a specific place to fix it more firmly in your mind. I think if I did this my husband would begin having serious doubts about my state of mind--with good reason! I thought some suggestions could be dangerous, such as wandering around your home with lights off to activate the other senses--not a good idea for an older person, just as "uncork bottle while driving" is not a good idea. The scientific explanations are excellent--very clear and easy to understand--but I'd take the exercises with a big grain of salt!

    2 out of 5 stars Rip.......2007-02-14

I'm very disappointed with this book. It's based on fundamentally solid brain science and offers the following to strengthen your brain (i.e. build and activate new neural connections): "1. Involve one or more of your senses in a novel (new) context, 2. Break a routine activity in an unexpected, nontrivial way."

Basically, by breaking the routine and forcing yourself to learn new things or different ways of doing old things, new connections will develop within your brain and create thought processing and longevity benefits. If you're right-handed, start forcing yourself to use your left hand (I was taught this aspect almost 30 years ago). Take different routes to work. Start using other senses to take in data. You see a widget. You normally recognize it as such and move on. Here, it is suggested to pick it up, feel it, examine it, smell it, listen to it and more connections will develop. Go out and socialize. Nothing challenges the mind more than interacting with new people.

O.K. This is all good, valuable information. But the proceeding paragraph pretty much sums it up. The other 100 or so pages in this book are fluff, with examples of achieving novelty. This is appropriate for a magazine article, not a nine dollar book. In fact, it seems suspiciously similar to a recent Time article on brain science. Wow, this was churned out fast.

    Book Description

With the same wicked humor, buoyant charm, and optimism that have made her Shopaholic novels beloved international bestsellers, Sophie Kinsella delivers a hilarious new novel and an unforgettable new character. Meet Emma Corrigan, a young woman with a huge heart, an irrepressible spirit, and a few little secrets:

    Secrets from her mother:
I lost my virginity in the spare bedroom with Danny Nussbaum while Mum and Dad were downstairs watching Ben-Hur.
Sammy the goldfish in my parents’ kitchen is not the same goldfish that Mum gave me to look after when she and Dad were in Egypt.

    Secrets from her boyfriend:
I weigh one hundred and twenty-eight pounds. Not one eighteen, like Connor thinks.
I’ve always thought Connor looks a bit like Ken. As in Barbie and Ken.

    From her colleagues:
When Artemis really annoys me, I feed her plant orange juice. (Which is pretty much every day.) It was me who jammed the copier that time. In fact, all the times.

Secrets she wouldn’t share with anyone in the world:
    My G-string is hurting me.
I have no idea what NATO stands for. Or even what it is.

Until she spills them all to a handsome stranger on a plane. At least, she thought he was a stranger.

But come Monday morning, Emma’s office is abuzz about the arrival of Jack Harper, the company’s elusive CEO. Suddenly Emma is face-to-face with the stranger from
the plane, a man who knows every single humiliating detail about her. Things couldn’t possibly get worse—Until they do.

I had a hard time not trying to compare this book with the Becky Bloomwood series because there were some likenesses. It's a good book and I enjoyed it.

1 out of 5 stars disappointing to say the least............2007-08-27

I honestly have to say this is one of the worst books I have ever read. Don't get me wrong - I loved the Undomesticated Goddess (LOVED IT!!!), but this book pales by comparison. I am truly confused by the many 5 star reviews here. I would have given this a zero if it was possible. I have read hundreds of these type books, and this one was by far the worst.

The book started out great. I had some really good laughs and I got excited that this would be another great read. The story turned south really fast. I continued to read on because this book had received so many 5 star reviews here that I had hopes it would improve, sadly to say it just got worse and worse. When I finished I was so disappointed.

I didn't feel any attachment at all to any of the characters, especially not Jack. Actually the only one I felt something for was Connor. I felt bad for him especially since Emma lies to him and then dumps him like yesterdays trash. She starts dating the boss where they both work in front of all Connor's co-workers, how humiliating for poor Connor!!!! He was the only `nice guy' I saw in this story and Emma dumped him and treated him like he was nothing to her. Am I supposed to like a character that cheats and lies to her boyfriend then dumps him and dates someone else the very next day?? Did I miss something here? I am also not sure how she could be in love with Jack after just two meetings and no communication (no sparks - no anything) The only thing that connected them was a bunch of silly secrets she shared with him on the plane. He actually came off to me as a weird type rather than a love interest type.

There are just too many bad things about this book. The characters are undeveloped (those that were well developed where not important to the main story line at all), the `secrets' where nothing to get all in a huff about sharing BIG DEAL, Jack seemed like a stuck up jerk and not a serious love attraction, Connor got dumped while she ran around behind his back, Jacks secret he hide in the end was ridiculous .....it goes on and on in the BAD department.

I would not recommend this book at all. It's no secret that this book was a big floop!

5 out of 5 stars chicklit at its best.......2007-08-19

i looved this book! i just had to keep reading. i felt so bad for her, how humiliating that would be!! ahh but definitely addicting! i've reread it a few times so it's definitely worth trying!

    5 out of 5 stars Top Notch.......2007-08-13

Sophie Kinsella is probably one of the best authors around in her genre today. Can You Keep a Secret? was a fabulous diversion from her shopaholic series character where I always find myself slightly annoyed at the protagonist for her decisions, this time around the main character is easier to like. She spills all her secrets to unbeknownst to her, her future boss, thinking they were all crashing to their deaths in a plane. They live and she learns he is her boss and she regrets telling her secrets. But we all can see that he is a good secret keeper. The book is a light and funny read as he teases her a bit without the knowledge of those around them and she is terribly embarrassed about telling him that when her friend comes over saying that they are going to fax some papers they are really in fact going to do nothing. And he just smirks when this situations arises in front of him. You all can predict the end as these books al tend to be predictable. Anyone who reads these types of books will delight in this romp.

3 out of 5 stars Very Average Chick Lit.......2007-08-06

I have just been introduced to "chick lit" and thought that this one might be enjoyable, reading all the numerous 5 star reviews; however, while it was cute, it wasn't by any means 5 star material! I think that pretty much ALL the characters were under developed. The reader doesn't get a real sense of who any of these character are. I also think that the relationship between Emma and Jack is also VERY under developed. So they have two horrible dates and suddenly they are madly in love?? Give me a break. I also found myself saying many times throughout the book, yeah, right, like that would really happen. Some times her writing went a bit over board and like someone else mentioned in their review, why would you tell a complete stranger all the little, embarassing details about yourself just because you think that your plane is going down. And who would sit there and listen to all of it, not saying a word??? A bit farfetched, ya know? All and all, it was a quick, light read that consumed my time when I had nothing better to do.

5 out of 5 stars Rachael cooks up another classic!.......2007-09-08

The idea behind this clever cookbook is to have on hand a certain amount of basic ingredients. Then, to complete one of the recipes in the book, all you have to do is stop by the store and pick up a few items on your way home from work- thereby qualifying you to use the "express lane"- hence the title of the book.

This particular cookbook of Rachael's contains not only easy to follow recipes, but also has a wide enough variety of them that will keep you from serving the same boring meals every night- a chronic problem at my house.

All in all a good cookbook that deserves a place on everybody's bookshelf, I give it five stars. Also recommend The Sixty-Second Motivator if you have trouble sticking to a healthy diet.

I bought this book because I really like her. Unfortunately, you have no idea which recipes are good.. and which are not. The book is also not ideal for placing next to you while you cook. They should change the binding! Another minus.. no pic of what the finished product should look like. I understand it's a budget book.. but there has to be some features to make me want to buy another one.

I think I prefer browsing on Food Network... there are reviews from other cooks on whether or not it is good.

I recently recieved this book and have found a few recipes I want to try. However, living in a small rural western town, some of the ingredients are unavailable. Not really a problem for me since I susbstutute ingredients quite often.

My biggest problem with this book at the moment is the index: totally useless. As I thumbed through the book perusing, I found a recipe entitled "Steaks with Tangy Corn Relish and Super Cheese and Scallion Smashed Spuds." A day later, I wanted to find the recipe for the corn relish...I looked in the index under "C" for corn...nope, not there. "R" for relish...not there either. Oh, I remember, it was listed with steak in the recipe...looked under "S" for steak...nope, not there either. I finally find it under "B" for beef.

Another recipe in the book included a Spicy Citrus Salsa...can't find it under Salsa or Citrus, but it is listed under "C" for Chorizo.
Maybe it would be faster to thumb through the book until I find what I'm looking for?

I want to try the recipes for the condiments - to go with other dishes I make, but I'm having a very difficult time of finding that specific recipe. When I do find the recipe, it's rather difficult to separate those specific ingredients and directions from the rest of the recipe.
I will be making good use of a highlighter in this cookbook.

    4 out of 5 stars Ingredients.......2007-05-09

I'm new to cooking fresh food daily and am actually starting to like it. This cookbook has been tremendously helpful in that the recipes are quick and easy and the 'to-buy' list is usually short. The portions are generally for 4 and there's only 2 of us so we always have left-overs, which freeze or reheat nicely. I'll go through the book and buy 2-3 meals worth on Monday (it's still fast, maybe not express though!) and basically be set for the week.

I wish the cookbook had a list of the recipes that use the fresh-purchase ingredients. This would make it easier to use up the fresh-purchased ingredients if not used in one recipe. I still recommend this for quick, easy, tasty meals.

This is not your regular diet book, full of lots of great information and very easy to understand

    5 out of 5 stars What a smart man!.......2007-09-04

I see the other reviews and I say the same thing. If you get the kit, and listen to the tapes. You will lose weight. I was 365 and lost 60lbs in less then 3 months. I have a lot more to lose. But if your so heavy you can't do work outs. Even when you try to walk - You leg starts to swell. And your doctor agrees- you need to lose some weight before you can do anything. Because you could have a heart attack. This is the diet. You eat real food. But you must eat. A heavy person is not heavy because of eating to much. Its the right foods and to eat. Don't skip meals. As for the blue print. When you see your doctor. He can tell you were your problem spots are growing. So you can get the right diet. Michael has done so much for my life. I don't have to cry every night because my legs or my sugar is threw the ceiling. I am feeling like a person now. If you need to lose weight now. Read it, do it. Do it for your self.

5 out of 5 stars yes it does work.......2007-08-29

the book is a good place to start, but get the whole kit, no not every one lose 30lb in 6week (up to 30) but the more you have to lose that more you will lose. I reg person who got this kit and have been on this program for 12 weeks not and I have loss so far 56lb, but you have to be truly willing to change your bad habits. If you eat the way you should you not hungry cause you fill up on vegs, and with drinking all the water you stay full. The real secret to the plan is the mind set

    2 out of 5 stars Confused ?.......2007-08-24

I originally purchased this book as my daughter wanted to buy the 6 week makeover package for $300.00. I thought that if the 6 day makeover worked, then we would continue with the 6 week package. On purchasing the book, we had to decided our body types - totally confusing !!!! Neither my daughter nor myself could decide what body types we were - the one I chose was to eat meat 4 times a day - I am almost a vegetarian !!!
I am glad that I purchased the book, but found that the body typing was not consistent- too many choices, that lead to different diets.

5 out of 5 stars It really works!.......2007-08-23

I read some bad reviews on here about it not being enuf food. Apparently, these people did not do it or else they'd be singing the praises like the rest of those who actually did it!

I am very overweight. When I started the 6 Day...I weighed in at 265lbs. 6 days later I weighed in at 256lbs.

My top weight was 283lbs almost 3 months ago. I worked out...walked the park and treadmill like a mad woman to lose only 4lbs in the first month. The second month I tried Alli...which allowed an additional 13lbs but pills are not something I can live with forever. Then I tried this. Amazingly, I was very satisfied for 97% of the 6 days. A few times I woke in the middle of the night with some growling...really, and I just had a little fruit or portion of meat and at the end...I still lost 9 whole pounds.

Of course, any diet can work but this one teaches you to eat to live not to live to eat. Salt is bad for us especially people like me (African American). Toooo many of us die every year of High Blood Pressure because of toooo much sodium.

If you give it a try with an open mind and let your taste adjust...like a baby, you will really learn to enjoy vegetables in their natural state and herbs and spices instead of just salt.

Don't get me wrong...salt to me is delicious but my health and life taste so much better mentally!

You'll learn a lot of stuff about how to breath properly, how to exercise properly and tons of other stuff. Maybe you're a fitness, nutrition wiz but for me it was very educational and has changed my life!

    Thanks Michael Thurmond!

Oh, and apparently the man knows what he's talking about if he was the expert on a top, Hollywood show!
