The thinking's not fuzzy in these board books, but the animals certainly are. Sandra Boynton's familiar furry creatures introduce simple concepts in this bright collection of four books, replete with clever line drawings. In Horns and Toes and In Between, three horned monsters teach the parts of the body in rhyme: "...and we have a fuzzy TUMMY that we all like to pat / and a little BELLY BUTTON in the middle of that." The Going to Bed Book gets a Noah's Ark of animals organized for bed: "They hang their towels on the wall / and find pajamas, big and small." Opposites is just that: cute animals "high and low / fast and slow / heavy and light / day and night." In the rhyming reader But Not the Hippopotamus, a hippo finds himself on the outs as "a cat and two rats are trying on hats. / But not the hippopotamus. / A moose and a goose together have juice. / But not the hippopotamus." Rest assured the hippo finds love at the end. (Baby to preschool) --Claire Dederer

Boyton Rocks!.......2007-09-24
Sandra Boyton books are always a big hit at our house-she writes some terrific children's books that all kids seem to love!
4 great books.......2007-09-03
The Going to Bed book is my son's favorite of all time and all of the books' clever sing-song rhymes make even adult readers smile- like when they all go up to exercise after they've bathed and brushed their teeth.
Pick and Choose your Boyntons.......2007-09-03
Sadly, not only our toddler (18 mos) but we parents, as readers, were disappointed in this Boynton collection, Although the title of "Greatest Hits" implied that these books were among children's favorites. We have found this not to be true. While reading the books aloud they do not have the lyrical magic of other Boynton's like "Hippos Go Berserk," "Snuggle Puppy," "Barnyard Dance, " or "Moo, Baa, La La La!." Sandra Boynton has the gift of creating language and drawings that touch children's imaginations. These books aren't the best examples of that talent. Buy Boynton, but buy other books instead of her Greatest Hits, Vol. II.
Boynton's Books.......2007-07-16
I bought these books and a 'horned'stuffed animal for a baby shower gift. I like to give books for little ones. They don't out grow them right away. Always been a fan of this author. Very funny and cute pictures.
Love this set!.......2007-03-29
I purchased this set for my 10 month old daughter. They are sturdy board books, beautifully illustrated with fun, rhythmic text. The hippo book is our absolute favorite. Highly recommended!!

Worked for our son.......2007-09-28
This is the best book we have ever bought for our son! Our son was biting for months. Every week he had a least two incidents of biting, and MANY MANY attempts. The teachers would monitor him constantly.
We tried time-out, cold drinks, hugs, and prayer. Then his anti-social behavior went away for a whole week. We thought we were home free, until he started a new school. Again, the biting came back. The teacher said, "it's not a matter of if he will bite, it is when." He had five or six attempts everyday. My son was going to be kicked out of school. Then I read an article about these books.
I ran out bought the book the end of August. Thank God, he has not bitten since. He loves the book, and I attribute this book to his change in behaviour. He has not even ATTEMPTED to bite once -- knock on wood.
I don't claim this will work for everyone, but it sure can't hurt to try. Thank you so much Ms Verdick for an amazing book.
Outstanding!.......2007-08-08
We have a wonderful little 14 month old guy at our daycare who has been randomly biting everyone. Including my 7 month old baby girl. The sitter and the boy's mom had tried all kinds of things. Startling him, ignoring him to comfort the bite-ee, and a myriad of other stuff. Out of desperation (I am crazy about our sitter AND this little boy, but was unhappy about the biting), I bought this book after the third bite in a week. The sitter read it to the little guy and injected the little boy's name into every "you" in the book. It seems to have gotten the message across and so far no more bites have gone down. Best of all, there is a section with information and ideas for parents and caregivers about biting, why it happens, ideas to prevent and re-direct. I really like the approach of this book and I highly recommend it to anyone with a biter or bite-ee that needs some help.
great book.......2007-08-06
My son, 28 months, loves this book and it has really helped us. He really likes to hear this book, reading it over and over again. And he seems to be able to relate to the phrase, "ouch! biting hurts!" It has given us good opportunities to discuss the problem and to discuss what else could be done instead of biting. We have been very pleased.
Gets the message across.......2007-07-20
This book was somewhat helpful, for both us parents and our child. Now whenever we say something about biting, Jonah (21 months) will say "ouch, biting hurts" although it's not clear that he understands what that means. I wish I could say his biting has stopped, it hasn't, but I think he's teething and hope it will be over soon.
It seems to have worked!.......2007-06-16
I kindof wish the artwork was cuter in this book . . . or maybe it is the writing? I don't know, but nonetheless my son loves it and after we bought it, his biting problem improved almost 100%.

My baby loves it!.......2007-09-13
short and sweet, my 9-month-old baby loves this book. she has a couple of favorite pages, but we often look at this book. we also have That's Not My Train, which she also enjoys. I think we need to get more! a really great book!
a FAVORITE first book!.......2007-05-22
We started reading this book to our daughter when she was just a few months old and it is definately a favorite first book! The words are simple, repetative (but in a cute way not an annoying way:) and there is a new texture to touch on every page. It's so interactive. This is one of the few that our daughter loved to sit all the way through and it's small enough to go everywhere with us (and now that she can walk, she really can carry it with her everywhere:).
Happy with this book.......2007-04-11
These books are really cute. My son (8 mos.) likes to feel the different textures, and my daughter (3 1/2) likes to find the mouse on each page. We have the dinosaur one also.
A FAVORITE!!.......2007-03-11
This is my daughter's FAVORITE book. She's nine months and we've been reading it regularly fo the past couple of months. She loves the basic repetition of 'that's not my puppy..' and especially loves the '..ears are too shaggy.'page. She'll reach for the feely parts of the book :)
It's to the point now where if she's fussy or bored we can recite a line from the book (without having the book, just from memory)and she instantly is destracted, looks up at us and smiles!
I'm super pumped to learn there's other books in the 'series'!! Wish I'd had known sooner :)
Great book.......2007-03-08
This is such a cute book my daughter loves it. She has started to read it to us now and loves the fuzzy pages.

Love Sandra Boynton.......2007-08-20
In my eyes and the eyes of my kiddos (age 14 & 37 months) Sandra Boynton can do no wrong. And this book just adds to her great collection. The book is easy to read, colorful, and a lot of fun.
Funny little book.......2007-08-12
This book is funny and cute, and my daughter (24 mons)and I love it. She likes all the animals, and I like the humor. When reading it, you can get very silly and just have fun with it.
A guaranteed favorite for you & someone special!.......2007-07-10
This is one of the first books I purchased for my niece, who will be 2 next month. This book has brought such joy! Paige associates me with this book, and she brings it to me to read at every visit. We read this book hundreds of times in the rocker when she was an infant. The sing-song rhyme was comforting, and she knows my special way of reading this to her. Now the fun part is listening to her say hippopotamus! (pee oh paw a muss :) Her copy is so beat up, but we wouldn't have it any other way! It is well worn like a favorite blanket, and has given me many wonderful evenings with Paige!
how did someone find a rhyme for hippopotamus?.......2007-05-09
That's the answer you're looking forward to as you bounce along with the rhymes of this books. It's fun and sweet, and I don't mind reading it over and over and over...
But not the two year old..........2007-04-09
My two year old shut the book as I was reading and refused to listen. I found this shocking because Boynton's books are usually a hit with my twins. He did bring it to his sister a day or two later and listened 1/2 through...so maybe the two year old...

Fun book for little readers.......2007-08-13
My daughter got this book at 7 months old, and she has loved it from the beginning. She loves to feel all the different textures, and now that she is 11 months old she loves to "read" it on her own. The book is durable and colorful, and I recommend it.
Fuzzy, Fluffy, Squashy Fun.......2005-09-13
Our twin babies are enjoying these "That's Not My..." books. These are more engaging than some of the other touchy-feely books we've got. Some books put materials in the pages for the babies to touch, just for the sake of having them there - and the words don't seem to "match up" with the thing we're feeling, or they are so stretched for material that it barely makes sense what we're feeling. Many of the "touchy-feely" books simply lack story content. That's not true of these Usborne touchy-feelies. The text is simple and makes sense to toddlers, and gives them a wider vocabulary of adjectives -- especially "tactile" words, like "fuzzy," "fluffy," "shiny," "hairy," and even (in "That's Not My Teddy"), "squashy!"
For bigger babies (my babies are just one year old), it's neat to notice a cute little mouse who shows up on every page. That's one thing I love about Usborne baby books - even when the babies are tired of looking at the main story, there's always the cute little mouse to notice and talk about!
Our Son's Favorite! .......2005-09-09
Our son is now 5 months old and this is his favorite book. He loves trying to grab the mouse on every page and knows where to feel on all the teddies. He likes books in general, but you can really see him tune in when we pull this one out - he loves it! We can't wait to try out the others in this series!
Also, as the other reviewers mentioned, a very sturdy book compared to other touchy-feelies. It has thick pages and a wide variety of durable textures.
One of the best of the many touch and feel books out there!.......2005-06-19
There are ALL KINDS of touch and feel books out there now, many more than there were 7 years ago during my prior go-round as a mother of a baby! I find the quality varies a lot. So far, this is the winner for me! The pages are very thick, so the touchable parts of them can be thick also, and really be something you can touch. When the teddy shown has a soft nose, it's truly soft fabric, and feels like it will stay that way. The shiny eyes on another are big enough to really be noticed. The pages are simple and uncluttered, and the story is basic enough to be understood by a young listener. I plan on buying more from this series!
Good story.......2004-12-26
This book does not only things too feel and touch - it has a very good story too. You get to follow the white mouse as it is looking for its teddy. My 19 months old likes to look in it and my 5½ years old reads it.

HANDS ARE NOT FOR HITTING BB
Customer Reviews:
Hands are not for Hitting.......2007-09-27
Hands Are Not for Hitting This book approaches the problem of toddlers hitting others and pets with imagination. Children find it fun and enjoy trying to find other things they can do with their hands without hitting. This would be a good book in an infant school library and is for anyone who interacts with toddlers on a daily basis. Will help positive development with social skills. Highly recommended for mums, dads and grandparents.
My kids like it a lot.......2007-08-23
My kids like this book a lot. They each have a favorite page of the book, they fight over it, and they like to have it read to them. It is sturdy construction, and has not yet been destroyed or even seriously injured. On the downside, I wish that there was a better link between the words and the pictures, so that I could more easily go from reading the few words to pointing out something about the illustrations.
good, but too wordy.......2007-08-06
This is a good book, based on the whole series. But to me, and my 28 month old son, it is too wordy. I have cut out a lot of it and picked out my own main points that deal with his behavior problems and left out a lot of other stuff. I think the board book would be better, like the others I have (Teeth Are Not for Biting and Feet Are Not for Kicking). Maybe would be better for older kids. But I still like the concept and he still enjoys it, just not as much as the other two.
Disappointed in board book version.......2007-06-09
A previous reviewer had mentioned that the original book is more in depth, so maybe I should have opted for that version, as I was disappointed in the board book's lack of content. It tells what hands are used for, and adds in "hands are not for hitting" occasionally, but doesn't even touch on why we don't hit.
On the plus side, the book is nicely illustrated, has wonderful warm colors, and even has a small section with helpful hints for parents/caregivers on how to help your toddler deal with frustration.
Hands are not for hitting.......2007-04-05
Overall a good book which talks about the many uses of hands besides hitting. However, the price of the book is to much.
Customer Reviews:
Entertaining for little ones throughout the infant, toddler, and preschool years.......2007-10-03
This series of "that's not my" books is really done well. Bright colors with fun themes that kids like, and happy images. Good mix of textures in each book. My son loved them before he was one year old and was just reading this very book with delight a couple of days ago, and he's almost four. I highly recommend these (and almost anything else Usborne!)
That's Not My Dinosaur.......2007-08-16
A fantastic book for little ones. My 22 mo son LOVES the "Not My" series.
Over and Over she reads this one by herself!.......2007-07-05
My kiddo is 3 now and has had this book for over a year now. She loves it ans will read it to us over and over. She loves the touch and feel and we play find the mouse game as there is a small white mouse on each page too! Great books also have this is not my dog.
Attention Grabber.......2006-12-20
My daughter is 10 months old and loves this book. It is the only one she doesn't try to close before the end. Simple, bright colors, nice thick pages and keeps her interest. She loves feeling the different textures on each page. She chooses this book over all her other ones. All the books by this author are very similar but we have two of them anyway.
Great book for little babies.......2004-09-20
This was the first book I could read to my son. It is short, which is good for the limited attention span of the 3-4 month old, is so cute, and has interesting, bright simple pictures. He likes grabbing at the pages, too.

Product Description
Elizabeth Verdick. Illustrated by Marieka Heinlen.°"Look at those feet! Aren't they sweet?" Yes when they're walking, standing, leaping and landing. And when they're kicking balls or leaves. But not when they're kicking people! In simple words and charming full-color illustrations, this book helps little ones learn to use their feet for fun, not in anger or frustration. It also includes tips for parents and caregivers on how to help toddlers be sweet with their feet. Illustrated, board book, full-color, 7" x 7".
Customer Reviews:
great book.......2007-08-06
My 28 month old loves the books in this series, and we have unfortunately needed them. He related to the pictures of the injured and offended, and it has really helped his behavior. This one focuses a lot more on what feet should do, more so than the Teeth Are Not For Biting does with the teeth, which is good and bad.
Excellant teaching book.......2007-05-08
Great book if your toddler has been kicking lately. Teaches good behavior as well as phrases that you can use to stop bad behavior. Highly recommend this book.

Two Two Year Olds...A MUST.......2007-04-09
Bought this for my one twin who likes to kick. I think he is getting the point :-)
LOVE this book and its simple, effective message.......2007-01-10
We bought this book for our 19-month-old daughter when she hit and bit another child at school. At the time, she used to kick me when I changed her diaper, and her daycare had a copy of this book, so I bought it, along with "Hands Are Not For Hitting" and "Teeth are Not For Biting."
All three books are great. They are very simple, straightforward, with pictures and language toddlers can understand. The repetitive phrases like "Ouch, Kicking Hurts," and "Feet are not for kicking people," are phrases my daughter has remembered, and that we have adopted in our house in the event that she hits or kicks, as many kids this age tend to do from time-to-time.
Our daughter just turned two and still loves to read these books and has retained the lessons therein. It's a great series.
Side Note: The "Hands Are Not For Hitting" that we ordered here from Amazon is NOT a board book, and it's language is a little more advanced for a very young toddler, but you can "customize" the language and your little one will still love it!

That's My Book!.......2007-07-07
This is one of the first Usborne Books I bought for my family, way before I became a consultant for the company. My youngest loved it. The text is rhythmic, the touchy-feely aspect is very attractive to babies and toddlers and there is a mouse on each page for your child to point out. This series is great for vocabulary development, especially those adjectives. For a long while my child would say "that's not my ... " in many situations such as in the parking lot going to our car. "That's not my car, it's too blue." "That's not my car, it's too big." It became a very enjoyable game for us! I call these the "potato chip" books because you can't have just one!
Usborne books are great.......2006-09-19
This is a book my 16 month old daughter asks for time and again by saying choo choo...She can now say words like rusty, glossy, and rough from reading this book and touching the textures. A great "learning to talk" aid.
Best baby book.......2006-07-27
This is my son's favorite book. I started reading it to him when he was about 3 months old and he still loves it at 9 months. (When his toddler friends visit, they read right along too.) The simple but bright graphics really hold his attention and he now loves to feel the different textures on each page. This was such a hit that we now own That's Not My...: Train, Tractor, Dinosaur, Puppy and Teddy Bear!
exceptionally well made board book.......2001-09-29
My nine-month old loves this book--he spends a lot of time just flipping through the pages and checking out the different textures. Very simple text is balanced by very sturdy, brightly colored pages. Slightly larger than most board books, too. It's a great deal for the price.
Bright bold colors and great textures!.......2001-01-02
Board book is a terrific book for very young children. My three year old reads it to my nine month old! Graphics and colors are great; use of repeative verse is perfect for the very young, ie. "that's not my train it's ...A must have for a little one's library.
Customer Reviews:
My toddler loves to 'read' these books solo too!.......2007-01-11
We started our collection with 'not my Kitty' and 'not my puppy', we added 'not my bunny' at Christmas time, my 18 month old LOVES these books, she brings them to us to read to her and will also sit and 'read' them solo, we've invested in 6 more. Another great book, not by the same author is 'Tails'.
Darling Book !.......2003-10-30
I bought this book for my daughter for her 1st Easter when she was almost 11 months old. She loves to rub her fingers over the parts of the bunny as I read and will turn the pages when she's done. This is her favorite book to read before bedtime and usually takes it to bed! It's a very cute book and this one and the others in the series are sure to be every baby's favorite!
