Following a trail.......2007-06-27
Scholars doing research on a subject often uncover information the leads to a different path. Most scholars will ignore that information to finish the work they started, but other scholars follow that path to see where it leads. Thus it was for John Robinson, the author of "Born In Blood".
Mr. Robinson doing research about the Peasants' Revolt in England in 1381 uncovered information about the Knights Templar and subsequently their connection with the Freemasons.
Mr. Robinson, who is not a Freemason, took the information he gathered and presented it in a well written book. The facts uncovered and the conclusions reached will get both Masons and non-masons to look at the world's oldest and largest fraternity in a new, more positive, light.
GREAT.......2007-04-10
I am pleased to read another book that is not set to trash history makers but instead to make some sense out of the ignorance of many for the benefit of a true free society.
A Fascinating Read, But............2007-03-18
I have read and re-read this work a couple of times. Robinson writes a fascinating account of the Knights Templar and what may have happened to them after the Order was suppressed. As has been noted in most of the previous reviews, the author writes a good story. My gripe with it, and I say this both as a Master Mason and also as one who majored in History and minored in Bio Sciences in college, where are the footnotes? The references, the research notes to back up his statements? Without this supporting evidence that can be checked by other researchers, the work borders on being largely just speculation. I realize that much of the history of Freemasonry was never written down, and thus opens it up to a lot of speculation about its possible origins. A more recent work, The Secret History of Freemasonry, may actually be closer to the truth of the matter in that the Templars were patrons and financial backers of much of the great cathedrals and fortifications built during the two hundred years of their existence. And thus they would have had extensive connections to the operative masons who built these structures, and some of the refugee knights might have sought refuge within the stone mason guilds. Paul Naudon, the author of this work, backs up his work with numerous references -- something that unfortunately Robinson, now deceased, failed to do. So enjoy Born in Blood, but take it with a grain of salt.
A most plausible view of history.......2007-02-11
Maosn's, of which I am one, have an enigmatic past. In 1717 the United Grand Lodges of England (UGLE) suddenly appeared. Yet Masonic Lodges had existed for a long time. Why go so public that year?
John Robbinson set out to answer a simple question. How could the English Peasant's Revolt of 1318 been so well coordinated and executed in an era parish laws, illiteracy, and servitude? It took him, quite by chance from that revolt to Freemasonry. This book is well researched and well thought out. What he does, and what I find most fascinating, is to use the language of the Knights Templar- French, to support his thesis. Certain words recording in the reports of the uprising are generally ignored because when thought of as English, had no meaning.
His conclusion is fascinating and in a much better class historical writing than Holy Blood Holy Grail. A good read. It could serve as outline for a great epic movie.
While I do not subsribe to the Templar - Masonic School of origins, I do believe that he is correct on the Templar-Peasant Revolt connection.
(I prefer the enlightment - civil society school of thought: see books by Margaret Jacobs Ph.D) .
Born in Blood by John Robinson.......2007-01-03
Well written history and content of Free Masonry. Some of it is speculatve because the world simply doesn't know the early history of the Masons.
Book Description
What's beyond Freemasonry? That's the question investigators have pondered for decades and Craig Heimbichner furnishes fascinating answers as he probes deeply into the sooty arcana of the Ordo Templi Orientis --or "OTO" -- the higher secret society to which elite Freemasons emigrate as part of a process of occult succession.
"Blood on the Altar" pursues the shape-shifting trail of this successor group, on the Left as the pillar of a libertarian ethos, avant-garde drug culture and radical hedonism; on the Right, as the pillar of aristocratic preference for authoritarian rule and classical culture.
Heimbichner has deconstructed not just a Janus-faced secret society but a method of operation so deceptive, the reader can hardly believe that such audacious and far-flung duplicity and misdirection could possibly succeed for so long without exposure. But succeed it has, until now.
The head-spinning trail of the OTO leads from the US government to the NASA rocket program, from the Hollywood film industry to Right-wing "patriot" groups, from the New Age craze for the Kabbalah, to an attempt to control the conservative enthusiasm for traditional liturgy.
The OTO has marched from triumph after triumph, as the spectre of its "Great Beast", British Intelligence officer Aleister Crowley, cast its Thelemic spell over a double-minded populace alternately seeking freedom-and-contraint, sex-and-repression, magick-and-Christendom, science-and-superstition. "Blood on the Altar" shows the OTO to be the signature secret society behind the most dazzling--and puzzling-- charades of the modern Cryptocracy.

Get the facts.......2007-09-08
I was a member of the OTO for a number of years and even was the head of an Oasis. This fellow hasn't got a clue about the subject which he claims to be an expert on. I have gotten others ro read this book with a great enjoyment of the humor (unintentional). There may be a secret society running the world but this fellow has it all wrong. Anyone who knows the subject will find humor anyone looking for knowledge will only find confusion.

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
I've been a member of the OTO for nearly 15 years, so it may suprise many readers of this review that I would give 4 stars to an expose of my dastardly doings. Boy, don't I wish. When I finished the book, I went waving it at my girlfriend, saying, "Where is THIS organization? I want to join THIS OTO!" Sadly, despite Mr. Heimbichner's efforts to assist our recruiting drive, the reality on the ground and the glamorous mystique he weaves around the Order are often very different things. Grant's Typhonian OTO, Bertiaux's OTOA, Motta's SOTO, McMurtry's
"Caliphate" OTO (to which I proudly belong), the "Swiss" OTO, et al, are mostly working with entirely different objectives. We are, unfortunately, too busy squabbling amongst ourselves to mount any sort of organized offensive on the status quo. This is not, as Heimbichner suggests, because the higher ups of the Order have nefariously sought to present the illusion of confusion. I can assure you that the confusion is quite real.
Nonetheless, I think that Heimbichner would be suprised at the number of places where he and I agree. While I repudiate his racist blood-libel bit, (or, rather, not being Christian, I don't care who's fault it is that his imaginary friend, Jesus, was crucified), I share his criticism of Zionism and the excesses of the State of Israel. I also agree that the Thelemic teachings are rather edgier than perhaps most self-identifying Thelemites are willing to admit to themselves. I also agree that Vatican II was tragic in many ways for Catholicism.
Further, while I can't speak for other Thelemites, I'm willing to acknowldge that Heimbichner was correct that I have a love/hate relationship with the Catholic Church. Protestanism is not very impressive. The mushrooming of suburban shopping mall style mega-churches, where a consumer culture passively consumes the yammering of ill-qualified preachers responsible only to themselves, is the logical outcome of the protestant ethic. At least the Catholic Church is a worthy opponent. I love the tradition, the art, the architecture, the mystery of the Catholic Church. At the same time, I find the ideas of original sin and vicarious atonement repugnant. The Church's clinging to Biblical questionable doctrines forbidding birth control at a time when over-population threatens our planet is irresponsible, to say the least. In fact, the Church's mania to control the sexuality of it's adherents is perhaps its most objectionable characteristic.
The problem, really, with this book is that Heimbichner's One United Conspiracy theory makes him fail to appreciate what, to me, should particularly be noted; which is this -- that, despite competing value systems, often, similar goals make for strange bedfellows. He misses a great deal of nuance and complexity that would have made this book a serious historical inquiry. While Heimbichner laments our media manipulated society, he fails to note that Aleister Crowley, whom he blames for this state of affairs, was complaining about "The Black Lodge" trying to "stop people from thinking" as far back as the 1940's (see Crowley's Magick without Tears for more on this issue.) The real menace today is the military-industrial complex. This is true whether you are a "right wing nut" or a "left wing nut," an occultist or a Catholic. In our own ways, esotericists and students of conspiracy like Heimbichner, although he doesn't realize it, are actually after the same enemy. Talk about strange bedfellows.
I could go on in this vein, but to return to the original question, why would I give this book 4 stars? The answer is that, frankly, Heimbichner traces alot of connections that are helpful to members of the OTO. His comments on the Palladium are particularly interesting. He highlights other connections that, although they are hiding in plain site, are hiding nonetheless. Alot of this same interrelationship is traced, less prejucially, in Joscelyn Godwin's "The Theosophical Enlightenment," and should be studied there. Author and occultist, Allen Greenfield, recently recounted on a podcast interview a comment made to him by one of the great modern adepts, Martin P. Starr. The comment was (and I paraphrase, here) that more important than following the papertrail of occult orders, is to follow the transmission of ideas. Heimbichner seems to believe that he is tracing a "papertrail" from one organization to another, but what he actually traces is the transmission of ideas from generation to generation of seekers after the Light.
Perhaps the the Light of Initiation is a "darkness visible" to those beyond its pale. Even those of us who have set out in search of that light often only catch a few glimpses of it. While the Bible cautions that Satan may disguise himself as an angel of light, it is, perhaps, also true that the angel of God may clothe himself in darkness. Perhaps it is this darkness that the cowan experiences when he confronts the adept. Men like Heimbichner will never see the light within. They are stopped by the terrible form of the Dweller of the Threshold, repulsed by the darkness visible, when the light invisible dwells just beyond its terrifying shroud.
I should probably end with the disclaimer that, while I have spoken of my own affiliation with the OTO, I am in no way deputed to speak on its behalf, and these opinions are my own.
Love is the law, love under will.
yes, Virginia, there is an OTO.......2007-07-04
One of the lynchpins of Graham Lincoln's dismissive review is the supposed authority of The Oxford Handbook of New Religious Movements. I guess it's fine from an Anglophilic point of view, but most serious scholars turn to the work of J. Gordon Melton. Sure, even Melton agrees that there are (at least) four competing OTO's, but would one argue that there isn't some agreed.upon vision that identifies each as "OTO"? Do the many dominations of Christianity not agree upon certain basic principles? And given the involvement of L. Ron Hubbard in the Pasadena chapter of the OTO (pre.Scientology), how can the organization not be considered significant in any comprehensive study of ... post.ancient religion? Lincoln, whether he intends it or not, takes an unseemly puritanical approach to Heimbichner's book. For Lincoln, the Masonic Order - unlike practically everything else in American society - is above criticism.
A must read for the informed........2007-05-08
Very informative regarding the Masons and their aims for the new world order. Their power and influence in history and today, is indeed scary.
An underground classic destined to live on.......2007-02-20
This book is jam-packed with information and gores just about everyone's sacred cow with wit and insight as it shines a spotlight on the vermin-infested corner of occult Masonry. The campaign to slander this book on Amazon run by Masons and Thelemites (members of the OTO, subject of this book) is proof that the author struck the proper nerve. The lies posted below would be amusing if they weren't the (illiterate) product of such a campaign. For example, one recent reviewer mocks the author's statement that vampirism belongs to the upper levels of the OTO, but surely knows that the "Mass of the Phoenix" of the OTO is also known to initiates as the "Mass of the Vampire," and for good reason. Kenneth Grant not a member of the OTO run by Bill Breeze, which is "legally recognized?" What a joke. Take a trip to Peter Koenig's OTO website in Switzerland and you will find a document from Aleister Crowley authorizing Grant to run the whole bloody organization. That Breeze "won" something in the U.S. court system is another joke; in fact, followers of Marcelos Motta in the Society of the OTO claim the whole operation was run by the CIA through the courts. And the author never, ever claims that all of these individuals are members of the "same" OTO, but highlights the different and various individuals and branches of the OTO phenomenon.
These OTO reviewers are so full of contradictions that they praise the glossary and the research while saying it is "ridiculous." Really? They also pull out accusations and "tags" which are inaccurate, such as "racial bias" or mentions of UFOs (utterly absent from the book) in an attempt to attack the author or the book itself. As for the mention of infiltration by the OTO, the author never states how vast it is, but instead actually documents from OTO internal "libri" their own intentions to do so. This is never discussed in these reviews--for obvious reasons.
Buy the book and hang on to it. It will be worth serious money in a few years.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

cheap and handy but not so very illustrated.......2007-07-12
a nice book containing alot info on many ancients topics. see index. Manly Hall has done a great job here. At some chapters it is nice to know some more of the current mytology on beforehand.
for a book this big it's good to have it in a handy paperback. The text is over 70 years and copyright is not renewed so this book is also freely available on the internet. I was hoping this printed book would be more illustrated than the online version. it does have some nice color illustration in the midle but througout the book it was not as illustrated as I expected.
A penultimate work in the history of the occult!.......2007-06-08
This is probably one of the most voluminous books I've ever read, but I won't complain. I really think that the author had a keen knowledge that seems to be missing among more "elusive" new-age types. I am almost finished reading it and I can say this book is quite interesting; the only chapters that didn't fascinate me had to do with science, but I'm really not one for science and never have been.
A Book to be Ensouled.......2007-05-19
I can add little to what the others that have reviewed this book have said other than to give it my highest personal endorsement. Mr. Hall was that rarest of true scholars- the Agrippa of our age.
There are those that will question why genuine "secret teachings" should be published for the general public. The author answers this near the end of the book in recounting the tale of Alexander's displeasure in hearing that his mentor Aristotle had published one of his most profound discourses for anyone to read. Aristotle's reply was that those who lacked spiritual comprehension would gain little from reading the book. That is also true in our time. Most people will not read this book, and those who do (if not ready) will dismiss it as nonsense. That certainly applied to me in my youth. It is a foolproof lock to wisdom- it will sound like foolishness to those who have not yet obtained to spiritual comprehension. You have to be capable of contemplating such teachings and then internalizing them (or "ensouling" them in the author's terminology.)
This book is truly a link of the Golden Chain. The author understood the importance of the Mysteries, of Pythagoras and Plato, of the perennial wisdom that flows through the ages. That is why this book will never be dated- such wisdom springs from the Source and can only be recollected. That Hall could have mastered so much in his 20's is remarkable. That he was sensitive to the growing danger of unbalanced soulless materialism so young makes him a true prophet. Given his times and backgoround I can only assume that this man was directly initiated by the Gods themselves.
This Tarcher/Penguin edition is truly a reader's edition. The type is actually readable as opposed to some of the reduced facsimile editions. It is unabridged and most of the important illustrations are included. The table of contents is very detailed and useful and there is a full index. Still, one day, I will own my own copy of the magnificent full-sized original for it is as much a work of art as it is a compendium of knowledge and wisdom.
Interesting Overview and Good Starting Point.......2007-04-12
This is a good overview of some of the various "secret" teachings throughout history. Rather than sate my curiosity, it made me more curious about these teachings and the unifying themes within. I think the book was a little too speculative at times and had a heavy leaning towards Masons and Rosicrucians. That said, I recommend it for anyone who wants to get a sense of the secret teachings that seem to be a part of all ages, both outside and hidden within the traditional religious teachings.

Book Description
What secrets connect Egypt's Great Pyramids, the Freemasons, and the Council on Foreign Relations? In this astonishing book, celebrated journalist Jim Marrs examines the world's most closely guarded secrets, tracing the history of clandestine societies and the power they have wielded – from the ancient mysteries to modern–day conspiracy theories.
Searching for truth, he uncovers disturbing evidence that the real movers and shakers of the world collude covertly to start and stop wars, manipulate stock markets, maintain class distinctions, and even censor the news. Provocative and utterly compelling, Rule by Secrecy offers a singular worldview that may explain who we are, where we came from, and where we are going.

Believe it.......2007-08-12
Rule by Secrecy by Jim Marrs will keep you up at night thinking, is it all true? Marrs presents many arguments and you the reader can decide what to believe. However ask yourself this question why is there still war, conflict, plagues? Begin your education into the shadow world, I highly recommend this book.

It makes you think.......2007-07-04
I do not know if everything what Jim Marrs put in this book is as he says. I think there is a wide percentage of speculation and it would have been better if every author quoted could be referred to a specific book. That kind of information is not included.
Nevertheless, it is a book that gives us a hint of what could be happening around us everyday, of what we are not aware or we didn't even notice.
Summing up, it is a very different view of the world that couldn't be put aside, because maybe, it is the vision of the real world where we live.
Informative.......2007-06-20
Okay, the alien stuff is paranoid and silly. The stuff on bankers and the UN, CFR, Trilateral commision is pretty much documented and anyone can look up. Fascinating read. And about 85% is documented and provable.
All roads lead back to Sumer.......2007-06-06
After I decided to learn the truth about who really runs the world and what not, I picked up this book since it seemed to tie together all the things I was wondering about, going back to the ancient mysteries. Jim Marrs really does an amazing job of compiling all this information and tracing it back through history to the Sumerian texts about the Anunnaki. If you are at all interested in shattering the false view of reality our society is conditioned to accept, then take the red pill, and read this book.
Rule by Secrecy.......2007-05-31
Marrs gets through a little over half of this book doing a great job of exposing the new world order, reminding me of a newer up to date version of None Dare Call it Conspiracy by Gary Allen. He exposes the CFR, Trilateral Commision, Bilderbergers, the Federal Reserve, and that all roads lead to oligarchal business and banking families like the Rothschilds and Rockefellers. Marrs also shows the role that was played by these people in fomenting, funding and profiting from both sides of almost all major wars going back to the days of Napoleon. He does drop the ball when he briefly discusses "Nazi Occultism" and uses idiots like Trevor Ravenscroft and Peter Lavenda as sources.
From there he shows the role played by Masonic secret socieities in the French revolution, what is known about the Bavarian Illuminati and a few other secret societies. After that he goes into Knights Templar/Merovingian Bloodline/Priory of Scion territory, which while that stuff is interesting and should be studied, its all just conjecture. Actually those topics have became a whole genre onto themselves in recent years. Besides that I've always thought that Priory of Scion lists that the authors of Holy Blood, Holy Grail got ahold of were either an out and out hoax perpetrated by the authors of Holy Blood Holy Grail, or put out as intentional disinformation by somebody trying to mislead them and the public.
After the Merovingian stuff Marrs gets way out there by going into Sitchen/Von Daniken territory. Here is where Marrs really loses me. Maybe I missed something but is he claiming that this is the hidden knowledge that the secret societies of the world elites hold? That the true origins of the human race are that we are hybridized creations of aliens from another planet?! Hey I'm not an atheist and I believe in a lot of stuff that the average person would consider pretty far out but this is just a bit much even for me. I'm familar with Marrs work and he's a very well researched, down to earth guy normally so it really surprised me that he included this in Rule by Secrecy. Especially considering I've heard him on radio shows several times making fun of David Ickes wacky reptilian theories.
But that aside I'd still recomend reading this book, if not buying it if you can get it for cheap because whats good in this is great. Just take a few things, especially the last chapter, with a few thousand grains of salt.

An Exciting Delve Into Freemasonry.......2007-08-23
This book, which is the first one of three written by different authors and publishers in a similar style over the past couple of years, is a must read for anyone contemplating joining the Craft, so that he might ask intelligent questions of the Brothers he knows and who he will meet. It is wide-ranging in its scope and comprehensive in its coverage.
Great book .......2007-08-16
This book was great it gave a wonderful overview of freemasonry. I read this book before I was initiated. it is very well writen to the point and easy to understand. I recommened this book to anyone that is interested in joining the fraternity or if you are just interested in what it is about. For you Masons out there I have used this book for my friends and family that have asked me about Freemasonry. I gave it to a friend of mine who read it and after reading it has asked if he can join.
The Facts, and nothing but the facts..........2007-08-11
This is a great overview of the history of the Masons and all fraternal organizations and a good overview of the craft. I recommend it to all Masons and Mason-Wannabe's. A good read and great info!
Great resource for the aspiring mason.......2007-06-29
This book has been a great resource for me while learning about the history and structure of the Freemasons. About 4 months ago I finally took the step and petitioned my local lodge. Since then, I have undergone a background check, meet and greet, recommendation process, investigation by a 3 person committee and a ballot in open lodge at which point I was accepted into the fraternity. Since my lodge has "gone dark" for the next 2 months and I am awaiting my Entered Apprentice Degree, I wanted to take the time to study the history and trappings of the Craft WITHOUT ruining the surprise of the rituals. The Author took great care not to expose any Masonic secrets which meant that this was exactly what the Doctor ordered.
I have also purchased The Complete Idiot's Guide to Freemasonry (Complete Idiot's Guide to) and have found that to be an equally compelling read. You can't go wrong with either of these as far as I'm concerned.
An easily accessible text about the organization........2007-06-21
If you are interested in the Freemasons and are willing to accept that they are not to blame for everything from the great flood to 9/11 then you will find this an interesting look at the organization. Sometimes the truth is even stranger then the rumors and this will be the case as you explore there traditions and rituals of the group.

Nicely written, accurate and informative..........2007-05-30
Although I haven't read the entire book yet, I will say that a brief overview of its contents from the Table of Contents and a brief review of each chapter is enough to know that this book is well-written, researched and best of all, highly accurate historically speaking in things relating to the Order of the Freemasons.
A true expert's incisive viewpoint.......2007-05-30
I'm acquainted with the author and know first-hand what an astonishing wealth of information is in his head -- not to mention the information to which he has access through his connections within the fraternity. In this book, you are getting, admittedly, an overview -- the tip of the iceberg -- but the book also provides generous glimpses at the large amount of the iceberg that exists beneath the surface. As a non-Mason, I gained great insight into the workings and background of the Masonic fraternity as well as its role in history. Now that I'm acquainted with many other Masonic works, I can't imagine a better introduction.
Another Solid Defense & Exploration.......2007-05-13
This book (don't let the IDIOT series fool you) was a very interesting offering by S. Brent Morris. Morris is the co-writer of another, well-written book, Is It True What they Say About Freemasonry. He delivers the same clear and consise approach to this book. I recommend this book to anyone that is interested in knowing AND understanding the world of Freemasonry (minus the conspiracy theory-tinged hyperbole that floats around the internet as fact).

Excellent quality. Excellent illustrations and explanations.......2007-04-10
When my friends ask me about Freemasonry, I immediately recommend this book. It contains a great amount of information in a simple to understand form. It really goes into many details of the Craft, and is a great asset to Masons and Non-Masons alike.
the best of the two.......2007-02-10
I believe that the book Idiots GUIDE TO FREEMASONRY is better than the book Freemasonry for Dummies. It's better illistrations and its explaination on the subject of Freemasonry is excellent. The reader will completely understand the subject matter. I would recomend this book to every man that becomes a Freemason to read, even to the man that wanted to know more about the Fraternity, and excellant read.

WELL WRITEN WELL DONE. VERY INFORMATIVE.......2006-07-22
I enjoyed every page of this one. Not being an expert in this field, I certainly cannot vouch for each and every fact the author has given us, but the several facts I did take the time to further research proved the athor correct. The book is well written and in fact is quite a page turner. This is one of those I hated to stop reading and was rather sorry when I had finished it. It is important to understand this past era in order to understand where we are today. The consequences of the actions taken at that time are still being felt even to this day. Highly recommend this one.
Very Impressive.......2006-06-04
I am extremely impressed by the way Robinson conveyed the history of those tumultuous times in such a captivating manner. This work is rich in facts: both large and small, and all interesting. Aside from Templar history, I really appreciated Robinson's ability to clearly explain the major and minor players and the political machinery and machinations of all sides involved (Muslim factions, Hospitallers, Vanetians, the Popes, etc etc). Reading this work is a real learning experience, and Robinson's great writing is far from dry. After reading this book I will surely continue to read Robinson's other works.
Phenomenal - This is a must read .......2006-05-24
Where to start? This is a fantastic piece of work that takes you through the rise and fall of Templars. I would rate it better than Da-vinci code because this is no fiction. It is remarkable that a non-fiction work packs so much action and thrills. This is also the best account of Crusades that I have ever read. In addition, the author also touches upon the personal codes that governed the life of Templars (like the chastity belt, rules against bathing etc). All in all, I strongly recommend this book to anyone interested about Crusades or Templars
Good book, but there are better ones out there.......2006-03-05
John Robinson does a very good job in complining information about the Templar and presenting it in an interesting and readable fashion. I thoroughly enjoyed reading more about the Templar (and Robinson does include many details not found in the other Templar books I have read, contrary to those reviewers who claim it is all old material).
What I liked best about this book was its emphasis on context. Robinson does not just give an account of the Templar's doings; he provides an account of all the things which are happening around the Templars as well, which is essential for understanding the Templar.
I also liked Robinson's clear writing style. Some history book get you bogged down with dates and names, but Robinson does an excellent job of tying them together and helping you remember them so that events further into the book will make much more sense.
There are also two complaints I have about this book:
1. There are a number of small, careless mistakes which really should not have been there (i.e. slightly misquoting people, slightly incorrect dates, etc.) and which are rather annoying. As far as I can tell, none of his information is majorly wrong; he just does things like writing that events happened several weeks after another event when it was actually many months, so I guess it's not really a big deal.
2. He seemed rather biased against the Catholic Church. I myself am not Catholic, but even I do not think some of the things that they did were quite as bad as Robinson makes them out to be. For example, his comments to the effect that the charges of homosexuality against the Knights were very probably true because they had vows of chastity are simply underestimating the effect of religion upon people's lives and are just plain stupid. If the Templars couldn't take being chaste anymore, it is not very likely that they would choose to become homosexuals violating the ordinances of the Church rather than simply violating the laws of the Templar.
In conclusion, this was a very good book, but I think that there are better books on the subject out there. I would recommend Stephen Howarth's The Knights Templar. His book is slightly shorter (and thus has a little less detail), but it is also more accurate and is much more fun to read.
Overall grade: B+
Knights Templar 201 .......2005-04-28
Several readers have trashed this book, one saying 'Same old song in a new cover'. That reviewer then goes on to recommend two books written 10 years later.. That's probably why he thought that this was 'old'. While I can't compare this book to anything by Runciman or Tuchman, I will say that this is a pretty good book.
Before you buy this book, please pay attention to the title.. It is called 'Dungeon, Fire, & Sword The Knights Templar IN THE CRUSADES' In order to understand the impact of the KT in the crusades you have to understand the crusades themselves, and in order to understand the crusades, you need to understand the 'players', culture geography etc... The Crusades didn't revolve around the KT, they only played a part, albeit an integral one, in the crusades.
Yes this book is more than just the KT, and no it's not an in depth history of each of the crusades, but it's not supposed to be.. The reader should use this book as a building block about the KT, the crusades and even the Papal State.
What is interesting is that the more one reads about the KT the more you realize that there really is a lot of uncertainty and disagreement surrounding them. In his book, Howarth writes that the master of the Templars was never called the Grand Master, yet that is how Robinson refers to them. There were a few other descrepencies between the two books but nothing major.
The maps (all 3 of them) were ok. The tables of the 'players' in the back of the book were helpful.
I recommend this book.. Could you do better? Maybe, but with all of the junk that they are publishing about the KT these days you could do a heck of a lot worse.
Book Description
From 007 to 2001, from Dealey Plaza to the Apollo Moon Flight, from the barrel of a Bulldog .44 to the corridors of the pyramids of Sirius; from the secret symbolism of Jack the Ripper to the public symbolism of the first atomic bomb blast, this work illuminates the crimes and command ideology of the masonic Cryptocracy, where ground zero meets the zero hour in a bestial crucible of ritual murder, human alchemy and demonic invasion.
Secret Societies and Psychological Warfare takes the reader to the core of a cosmic cryptogram, a dark Oz where the ancient fables become modern memes for the psychological contagion and devastation of humanity, and where the stratagem the author terms "Revelation of the Method" becomes the key to the finale of the mysteries of the ages.

Thinly Veiled Christian Rhetoric.......2007-07-28
Was so excited at the premise of this book, but could not stomach it after a couple of chapters (VERY rare for me). A pro-life, Christian agenda slithers beneath the surface. Very irresponsible, opinionated "journalism".
Very poorly researched.......2007-02-17
Because I study collegiate history and mystical orders, secret societies and such, I thought this book and "revisionist history" would be interesting. However, this book is poorly researched, and the terminology is inconsistent. Having previously studied many of the subjects and organizations mentioned in this book, it is easy for me to see that the author either only skims or deliberately obfuscates both the terms he uses and the connections he professes to exist between various organizations and agencies.
The author must have only skimmed the surface of the organization known as "The OTO," because he makes no differentiation between the legitimate, legally recognized OTO (see book: "The Equinox: The Review of Scientific Illuminism : The Official Organ of the O.T.O. Number 10") and the "Typhonian OTO" of Kenneth Grant. There are several supposed "OTO" organizations, several of which are very misleading.
The author of this book attempts to obfuscate the fact that he refers to several "OTO" organizations as one organization; this is absolutely false, therefore he either needs to do much more research or he is deliberately making stuff up.
I also found that his usage of the term "Twilight Language" makes no sense, because he obviously has not studied the various aspects of what he attributes this term to; in other words, he attempts to apply the term to several different incompatible scenarios. He stretches shaky concepts and fills empty research with gleaned fodder from conspiracy theories.
There is no question that he neglected to properly research the OTO, yet he does mention some interesting people who actually were connected with the legitimate OTO (such as John/Jack Parsons).
This entire book can only be taken with a grain of Salt, however it is interesting, and could be a decent book if it were properly researched instead of thrown-together in such a sloppy manner. The photo copies are so blurry that they add nothing of value to the book. Mimeograph copies would be easier to decipher--the pictures mostly look like ink blots.
Over all, this is a very poorly written book, minimally researched, and the photos are abysmal; however, those with more knowledge may be interested in acquiring this book as a good laugh, and a collector's item. The author's conclusions and theories are highly dubious, silly in many cases, but entertaining.
If you purchase the book as part of a Truth Quest, you will be highly disappointed, because it is mostly bunk; however, if you purchase the book as entertainment, and for the subcultural context, this can be a fun read.
The author cannot be taken seriously, yet the book could lead to personal research, by branching off his work, following names and organization names the author uses. The overall impression I had was that the author was trying too hard, and adding too many layers of justification for his theories (because they are weak); the more he adds on to the original premise, the shakier his foundation becomes. More than anything, however, he completely undercuts any validity by blatantly mixing up facts; this can easily be verified by doing a few Internet searches. He simply lumps various groups together as a whole, thus undermining his own attempts to convince the reader. Clearly defined organizations are thrown into a blender by the author, thus resulting in mush and nonsense. Also, a trend that I am seeing in this genre is that authors will make a statement about Charles Manson, then tack-on a completely unconnected statement about the OTO, in order to trick Lazy readers into thinking the two statements are connected. This is an old trick, and follows the tradition of using outdated (proven false) nonsense such as The Leo Taxil Hoax which permeates Anti-Mason and Anti-Occult writings.
Much like authors who attempt to use false premises such as the Baphomet Taxil Hoax to promote Anti-Masonry and Anti-Occult rhetoric, this author uses false techniques to attempt to trick the reader into mentally connecting two independent statements about different groups into one visually constructed (misleading and false) statement, through word construction tricks.
This is a light read to be taken lightly, and with a grain of Salt.
The Wicker Man, The Unabomber, and Secret Societies.......2007-01-17
This book was a very interesting look into the world of Secret Societies and how they have used psychological means to control the world through manipulation of the mind and re-focusing the "Mind's Eye" with the use of "Psycho Drama" through the actions of people who may seem to just be another "lone nutcase", when in reality they're a dog on a leash being led or directed into action through the use of many different means.
From the Mason's to many other "Secret Societies" to use the people's innocence against them would be the way I describe this book. People should wake up and think about what's out there.

ahead of its time...yet timely!.......2006-08-05
Studying conspiracy for years, it doesn't suffice to say that Hoffman has done his homework. He pulls back the covers of the greatest conspiracy of all time and reveals his insights succinctly.
Please do not pick this book up for light reading or if you are new to subjects such as conspiracy theory, the occult, or secret societies. It will not make much sense to you.
Having said that, if you are halfway attuned to the world around you and can find truth despite having to tolerate mainstream garbage, this book will open your eyes even more.
After reading dozens of related books I keep coming back to this one. Brilliant!
Sorry Michael II, my rating scale only goes up to four stars and this is certainly worth it!.......2006-06-01
The best book Mike Hoffman, who unfortunately
hangs too much on the khazars, has ever done.
Plenty in here about the Masons, who controll
the zionists, as well. Hoffman's basic problem
is that despite the obvious inclination that
points to the Masons controlling Interenational
Zionist through the jewish B'nai B'rith Masonic
Lodge, Hoffman, elsewhere, fortunately not in here,
claims it's tht other way around, which I disagree
with. Other very fine books by this author, who I
consider a Revisionist friend, though his irregu-
larly published Newsletter is only lukewarm, include:
'They Were White and They Were Slaves', and the 'Is-
raeli 'holacau$t' v. the Palestinians', which is not
one of his best.

Review from a life member of the Scottish Rite Research Society........2007-07-26
This is a great introduction to the WORLD (Caps added for emphasis) of Freemasonry written in plain language for the Mason and Non-Mason. The full color/black and white pictures are excellent. Brother MacNulty is a loyal Man of the Craft and shares some of his cherised thoughts about the Craft with you within the pages of this book but he is careful not to spoon feed deep esoteric knowledge about the Craft because the Craft is not designed for babies. THE CRAFT IS DESIGNED FOR MEN. We Masons will guide you and give you the tools you need to find the ultimate answers for yourself, AS A MAN! Brother MacNulty is one of the brightest Masonic stars to come out from the state of Virginia. And like me, he is a member of both American and British Freemasonry. The knowledge resulting in his dual membership is reflected in this excellent book. Read "Freemasonry; A Journey Through Ritual and Symbol, also by Brother MacNulty, for a deeper understanding of the Craft. And finally, read "The Way of The Craftsman", also by Brother MacNulty, if you are a Master Mason interested in the ESOTERIC UNDERSTANDING OF THE CRAFT. I could say more to address the funny anti-masons but will not because that would be spoon feeding.
An interesting but shallow inside-look at Freemasonry.......2007-03-11
This book written by a long-standing member of the Masons is more of a picture-book than a book in the ordinary sense. There is very little text at all, it consists mainly of large pictures, and is hence a very short "read". That being said, he includes a lot of fascinating pictures, drawings and paintings both known and unknown from before. The book serves adequately as a decent introduction to Freemasonry, but don't expect this to be very honest. You notice immediately that it is written by one of the brothers, since he only vaguely hints at everything, and you don't really feel you get to know anything that is of real interest.
It contains a lot of interesting images that show you just how deep in high society this travesty runs. If you read between the lines though, you will quickly see a connection between Judaism, Freemasonry and the ruling "elites". It saddens me to see all these fine men in the early 1900's throwing their intellectual energy away into something so filled with subversive elements. What did the men of Europe have to do with Kabala and its various spawns and cousins? These men could have saved the West when it was still a relatively easy thing to accomplish, but instead they chose to sell out their souls to this meaningless Semitic non-sense.
Recommended, but read with caution, because this is not the real face of Freemasonry, that ugly grin hides beneath the "for the good of society"-facade. A very educating and penetrating essay to read regarding the subject is Julius Evola - "The Relationship between Judaism and Freemasonry", an essay I highly recommend and that you will find easily available on the internet.
(I read a different edition of the book)
Freemasonry:Symbols, Secrets, Significance.......2007-02-02
I would recommend this publication to particularily any new Mason or someone considering applying, as being the most complete overview of the brotherhood of Masonry I have found. It would also certainly be beneficial to some of those who have been in Masonry for awhile as a "rusty nail training" piece. The pictures and diagrams included in it are excellent quality accurately describing the rich heritage of the society. While it explains very well historical operative masonry to modern day speculative practice the author is careful to preserve the secrets within the degrees.
Freemasonry Enlightened.......2007-01-21
I am a Master Mason and also a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason so feel qualified to give an opinion, recognizing that other may not share my viewpoint.
Masonry is not for everybody, but this book goes a long way to tell the story in a manner that many non-Mason's can understand. There is very little these days that is "secret" and our Lodge is very open, even having its installations open to the public.
I concur that Masonry is not a religion, but it does reinforce my Christian beliefs, as well as those other religions we have in our Lodge.
This is a good book, not perfect, but well worth having and reading. I am enjoying reliving much of what I learned along the way and seeing how Masons around the globe work.
I recommend this book to those wanting to know more about this great Fraternity, home to many generations of Americans, including a large number of our founding Fathers.

great coofetable book for grandpa to show the family what he is been doing every week when he meets his friends to do charitable work
but in realityland
beatiful pictures beatiful stories beatiful explanations that say basically nothing except superficial bla bla
one always wonders if the guy writing this
is leaving all the really interesting stuff, connections, persons and vital data out on purpose
to keep the profane dumbed down
or if they themselves are so dumbed down to believe the crap they are writing
hard to imagine really given that they spend a lifetime studying this stuff and still havent been able to see a bigger picture than there local lodge
so if you re looking for a historical account by even the most sloppy standards this book is rubbish
if youre looking for explanations of the esoteric meanings beyond the most obvious superficial layer of things this book is rubbish
if you re looking for anything more than a thinly veiled advertisment brochure by a devout disciple of the craft
dont buy !
if you re looking for a brief introduction with glossy pictures
and are prepared to be misled
