Do you sleep with the light on? Are you in the habit of checking your doors and windows before you go to bed? Maybe even checking under your bed? If you are about to crack open Joe Hill's chilling thriller Heart-Shaped Box, you might want to rethink your nighttime habits--Hill's story about an aging rock star (with a penchant for macabre artifacts) who buys a haunted suit online will scare you silly. But don't take our word for it. We asked bestselling authors (and masters of dark terror tales themselves) Scott Smith, and Harlan Coben to read Heart-Shaped Box and give us their take. Check out their reviews below, and you might want to pick up a nightlight while you're at it. --Daphne Durham

In 1993, Scott Smith wowed readers with his stunning debut thriller, A Simple Plan. Thirteen years later, he spooked us again with The Ruins, a horror-thriller about four Americans traveling in Mexico who stumble across a nightmare in the jungle.
The set-up for Joe Hill's novel, Heart-Shaped Box, is appealingly simple. Jude Coyne, an aging rock star, buys himself a dead man's suit. He acquires it online, lured by the promise that the dead man's ghost will be included in his purchase. Jude thinks this is a joke, of course. He also assumes the seller is a stranger. We soon discover that he's wrong on both counts, however, and from this point on the story moves with an exhilarating urgency. Jude wants the ghost gone; the ghost wants Jude dead. We watch, chapter-by-chapter, as they battle for survival. "Watch" is the appropriate word, too, because this is an extremely visual book. Hill's prose is lean and precise, and he renders Jude's world with impressive confidence. It feels solid, every detail both correct and fresh. And this physicality provides a firm platform for the book's otherworldly happenings, which seem all the more frightening for being so securely grounded.
Hill has a flawless sense of pacing. His narrative never flags, nor does it ever move so quickly as to outrun itself. And one can sense his literary ambition pushing at the margins of the genre. There are times when his writing, for all its spare efficiency, seems to jump away from him, stopping one small step short of poetry. An e-mail to Jude from the ghost (trust me, it's not as absurd as it sounds) could even pass for something ee cummings might've written, in an especially morbid mood. And toward the end of the book, when Hill describes a trip down death's "night road" in a '65 Mustang, the passage has a startlingly lyrical beauty.
The story's horror ultimately has as much to do with Jude Coyne's past--his mistakes, abandonments and betrayals--as with anything supernatural. Jude has caused a lot of pain over the years, moving through life with a carelessness that verges on the callous. His battle with the ghost brings this behavior into sharp relief, forcing him to reflect upon his own capacity for cruelty. This dawning self-awareness leavens the book's bleakness and gore (and it is delightfully gory in places) with an unexpected sweetness. Despite our initial impression, Jude is gradually revealed--both to himself and the reader--as an essentially decent, even kind man. It's this kindness, this fledgling ability to love and be loved, that will ultimately be of crucial consequence in his death struggle with the ghost. And it's what makes Hill's debut not only well-written and terrifying, but also--as it draws to its close--surprisingly moving. So go ahead, take a chance, and open his Heart-Shaped Box. I think you'll be happy you did. --Scott Smith

Guest Reviewer: Harlan Coben
Harlan Coben is the author of the beloved Myron Bolitar series about a wisecracking sports agent, as well as stunning stand-alone novels like The Innocent and his breakout thriller Tell No One. His new novel The Woods releases on April 17, 2007.
You, dear reader, are obviously somewhat versed in making online purchases, so today, immediately after you click on the yellow "Add to Shopping Cart" on the top right hand corner of this page, why not do an online search and buy something totally unique?
Like, say, a vengeful ghost.
That is what rock-star Judas Coyne does, thinking it will be a laugh, fun for his "sick-o" collection of such things. It seems a random buy, but Judas soon learns that it is anything but. This particular ghost is one Craddock McDermott, step-father to recent suicide victim and boy, is he cranky. He demands revenge for his step-daughter's death, which he blames on Judas's shabby treatment of her.
Or is he after something else?
There are Amazon readers who will give you a better plot summary. Don't read them too closely because Joe Hill provides plenty of fun surprises. Heart-Shaped Box is a true spine-tingler. I don't use that hyphenated word much anymore. We have seen and read it all, haven't we? But right away, in the first chapter, there was a subtle line that made the hairs on the back of my neck go up in a way I haven't experienced since I first discovered great horror as a teenager.
Hill writes with a sure hand. The prose is compelling. Like most memorable tales of horror, this book is more about redemption than scary moments--though Heart-Shaped Box has plenty of scares. They are visceral, shocking and very well done. The characters are flawed and real. The father-son relationship adds texture and surprising poignancy.
So here's the thing. My guess is, you won't find a ghost to buy online, but if you read the Heart-Shaped Box, you will be getting something that will haunt you and startle you and stay with you and yes, visit you in your dreams.
Sleep well, dear reader. --Harlan Coben

Book Description
Judas Coyne is a collector of the macabre: a cookbook for cannibals . . . a used hangman's noose . . . a snuff film. An aging death-metal rock god, his taste for the unnatural is as widely known to his legions of fans as the notorious excesses of his youth. But nothing he possesses is as unlikely or as dreadful as his latest discovery, an item for sale on the Internet, a thing so terribly strange, Jude can't help but reach for his wallet.
I will "sell" my stepfather's ghost to the highest bidder. . . .
For a thousand dollars, Jude will become the proud owner of a dead man's suit, said to be haunted by a restless spirit. He isn't afraid. He has spent a lifetime coping with ghosts—of an abusive father, of the lovers he callously abandoned, of the bandmates he betrayed. What's one more?
But what UPS delivers to his door in a black heart-shaped box is no imaginary or metaphorical ghost, no benign conversation piece. It's the real thing.
And suddenly the suit's previous owner is everywhere: behind the bedroom door . . . seated in Jude's restored vintage Mustang . . . standing outside his window . . . staring out from his widescreen TV. Waiting—with a gleaming razor blade on a chain dangling from one bony hand. . . .
A multiple-award winner for his short fiction, author Joe Hill immediately vaults into the top echelon of dark fantasists with a blood-chilling roller-coaster ride of a novel, a masterwork brimming with relentless thrills and acid terror.

Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill.......2007-09-19
One thing I admire greatly about Joe Hill King, son of famous bestselling author Stephen King, is that he didn't get a leg up from his father like our President did. While I'm sure he's had plenty of help and advice, Joe Hill has earned his own success through his own writing. Having won a Bram Stoker Award for Best Fiction Collection with his first book 20th Century Ghosts, he now returns with his first novel, Heart-Shaped Box, which was naturally making a tremendous amount of buzz before the book even came out. And the congratulatory quote on the back of the book from Neil Gaiman just made it that more popular.
Our main character, Judas Coyne, is a famous guitarist of a band that was once up there with Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden, but after the sudden deaths of two band members, the guitarist is now a successful solo artist whose eccentricities range into the banal, naturally. His favorite is to collect items and trinkets of the most unusual - the weirder the better! So when Jude sees a ghost for sale on an auction site, he immediately jumps on it, chooses the buy it now option and soon has the package on its way. The single mother is very happy to get rid of the ghost of her grandfather who has been haunting her and her son for so long, and Jude now has his very own ghost.
The package arrives in a large black heart-shaped box and inside he finds an ancient but impeccable suit. Judas is impressed by it, closes the box and soon forgets about it. Then the haunting begins: strange noises and soon they see the ghost, walking around. Then things take a turn for the worse, as the ghost comes after Judas and his friends.
Sadly, when it is revealed where this ghost has come from the story kind of goes downhill. It turns out the ghost is the deceased grandfather of the sister of a former girlfriend of Jude's who killed herself after he dumped her. While the supernatural element of the ghost remains, and it is on their tail trying to catch them, the reasoning behind it is weak and destroys the foundation of the plot. Nevertheless there is a darkness and depth within this novel that reveals a talented writer with a bold future ahead of him. Like Carrie, this is not the best first novel, but with the talent in Hill's genes, we know there will be many more stories for him to tell that will be great and terrifying.

Couldn't put this book down!!.......2007-09-18
I havn't picked up a book in years. This one jumped into my hands at the bookstore. I love a good ghost story, so I said why not. This was the best book I have ever read!! I could not put it down. Two of my friends borrowed the book when I was done, they felt the same way (finished it in 2 days each). The only bad thing is going to be trying to find another great book like it!! Can't wait for the new Joe Hill book to be released!!
I havn't found another book that could captivate me like this one did.
THIS BOOK IS A MUST READ!!

Don't Start or You Won't Be Able to Stop.......2007-09-17
I just finished this book - I read it in 1 1/2 days, because it was such a fast, exciting read. I thought the idea of buying a ghost on the Internet was novel, although the rest of the book was pretty predictable. Still, it had me hooked. The characters weren't all that likable, but Jude gets more so. I think my favorite characters were Jude's dogs. Anyway...it's also got a lot of profanity and some crude stuff. Basically, it's Stephen King without all the finesse.
Boring.......2007-09-14
This book which was so highly publicized and got me all ready to read a truly great book and I got a book which is boring, tedious, you figured out what was going to happen before you got to it this book was so predictable, save your money.
Book Description
Principles of Corporate Finance is the worldwide leading text that describes the theory and practice of corporate finance. Throughout the book the authors show how managers use financial theory to solve practical problems and as a way of learning how to respond to change by showing not just how but why companies and management act as they do. The text is comprehensive, authoritative, and modern and yet the material is presented at a common sense level. The discussions and illustrations are unique due to the depth of detail blended with a distinct sense of humor for which the book is well known and highly regarded. This text is a valued reference for thousands of practicing financial managers. Richard A. Brealey and Stewart C. Myers welcome Franklin Allen as a new coauthor to this Eighth Edition. Sometimes the addition of a new coauthor means that one of the existing authors proposes to take a back seat. That is not the case with this team. Dr. Allen’s addition represents a genuine increase in capacity and brings fresh expertise and ideas to an already tremendously successful textbook and partnership.

Just perfect........2007-09-06
Although I did not pass the exam that I took. The problem was with the exam not the book. This is an excellent book with lot of work done to ensure that the book is perfect.
The presentations available online with this book have a few mistakes.
Not great for the beginner.......2007-07-17
This book is not very clear in its explanations and does not have too many worked examples. Not sure why my MBA school prescribes this. I recommend reading Fundamentals of Corporate Finance Standard Edition by Stephen Ross, Randolph Westerfield.
Lacking Full Explanations.......2007-06-07
This book leaves me with more questions about finance than I have answers. Who do the authors think they are writing for? It surely is not the beginner MBA student. It seems like words are expensive because they do not fully or even partially explain concepts. Finance is difficult but it should not be impossible. I should not have to read and reread to figure out what the heck they are talking about. Maybe they should serve as advisors to this text and let someone who knows how to write actually write the book. These guys may be leaders and brillant but they are poor communicators. I'm not thrilled with my professor either. Is he a cheerleader or a teacher?
Good introductory finance book.......2007-04-11
This is an easy to ready comprehensive introduction to basic finance concepts. I would not recommend it to finance majors but I consider it a good choice for general MBA or other students that do not have a stong quantitative finance background.
Comprehensive text - you get your money's worth.......2007-01-09
I got this book for my Intro to Corp Finance class. The professor was aweful, but the book got me through the class. There are several other finance classes that use the same text, so for once I feel like I'll get my money's worth out of a textbook.

Comprehensive overview of marketing fundamentals!!! .......2007-08-21
This book was actually used as a textbook for an online course Essentials of Marketing. The marketing fundamentals are divided into 5 parts; (i) Initiating the Marketing Process, (ii) Understanding Buyers and Markets, (iii) Targeting Marketing Opportunities, (iv) Satisfying Marketing Opportunities and (v) Managing the Marketing Process.
Part I lays the foundation for the entire book, explaining what marketing and strategic marketing process are, and relate the importance of environmental, ethical and social responsibility factors to the marketing actions. It mentions briefly the use of BCG (Boston Consulting Group) business portfolio analysis to quantify performance measures and growth targets to analyze a firm's business units. Similarly firms can also view growth opportunities using the market-product analysis. The 3 key phases in a strategic marketing process (planning, implementation and control) are introduced. More details on each step in the planning phase is provided, such as SWOT (strength, weakness, opportunity, threat) analysis, environment scanning, market-product grid, market segmentation, target markets, developing the marketing program 4Ps( product, price, place / distribution, promotion), budgeting, etc.
Part II discusses on the ultimate consumer and organizational (industrial, reseller, government) markets and buyer behavior. The NAICS allows the classification or common industry definitions of industrial, reseller and government markets for Canada, Mexico and US. The breakdown or definition of the NAICS is shown in detail. On a global perspective, the dynamics of the world trade is discussed. Porter's diamond of national competitive advantage shows the 4 key elements affecting world trade; factor conditions, demand conditions, related and supporting industries and company strategy, structure and rivalry. Further on, 4 global market-entry strategies are discussed next; exporting, licensing, joint venture and direct investment, in terms of the marketing mix (product, promotion, distribution and pricing) strategies.
Part III discusses the key marketing methods and then focuses on the marketing efforts on those key segments most likely to buy the product. The role of marketing research and the 5-step marketing research approach leading to marketing actions are defined. From the market research conducted, the 5-steps in segmenting and identifying the target markets, product positioning and sales forecasting techniques can be performed.
Part IV covers the 4Ps of the marketing mix that can be used to implement the marketing program. It provides correlation of the stages of the product life cycle (introduction, growth, maturity and decline) to the specific marketing objective (gain awareness, stress differentiation, maintain brand loyalty and harvesting/deletion) and the characteristics of the product, price, promotion and place strategy. 3 ways can be used to manage a product through its life cycle; modifying the product, modifying the market and repositioning the product. A brief discussion is on branding and brand management. The differences between products and services are highlighted. The 6 steps in setting price are discussed next. A few factors will affect the pricing decisions such as the type of competitive market (pure monopoly, oligopoly, monopolistic competition, pure competition), the pricing objectives and constraints, the estimation of demand and revenue, the determination of cost, volume and profit relationships, etc. Various pricing strategies such as skimming, penetration, prestige, bundle, standard markup, cost-plus, target return on investment, loss leader, etc can help to select an approximate price level. Following this, the marketing channels of distribution is discussed next. The channels' terminologies (broker, wholesaler, retailer, distributor, dealer), functions (transactional, logistical, facilitating), structure (direct versus indirect channel) and organization (traditional, vertical marketing system) are introduced. An entire chapter is dedicated to supply chain and logistics management. This section concludes with the promotion factor of the marketing mix. The concept of integrated marketing communications (IMC) is introduced as designing marketing communications programs that coordinate all promotional activities (advertising, personal selling, sales promotion, public relations, direct marketing) to provide a consistent message across all audiences. Guidelines are given on developing an IMC program. Since selling must be managed if it is going to contribute to a firm's marketing objectives, the sales management process is next explained.
The last part, part V, shows how marketing weave a myriad of controllable (4Ps of the marketing mix elements) and uncontrollable (environmental scanning) factors into interactive, traditional and multi-channel marketing programs. Among the marketing channels available, interactive marketing allows for interaction, individualization and customer relationship building through the choices of choiceboards, collaborative filtering, etc. The 3 phases (planning, implementation, control) in the strategic marketing process are again reviewed. Under planning phase, 3 marketing planning frameworks can be used; Porter's generic strategies, profit enhancement options and market-product synergies. Guidelines are provided for an effective marketing plan. As for the implementation phase, there is a need to schedule precise tasks, responsibilities and deadlines, as well as a marketing organization. The final control phase involves measuring results using sales analysis, profitability analysis and ROI marketing, and ends with taking appropriate marketing actions.
Overall, each chapter guides you on writing individual sections of the marketing plan. An example of a marketing plan is provided in Appendix A. In addition, there are case studies based on actual companies' experiences. Since finance is intertwined within marketing concepts, Appendix B gives an introduction into the financial aspects of marketing. In addition, this book pinpoints to a few websites where you can obtain more information such as www.supplychainbrain.com, www.census.gov, etc.
One of the setbacks is on the topic of building a price foundation. This book elaborates only on the demand curve, with no mention on the supply curve at all. Since pricing is based on the laws of supply and demand, I feel the supply curve needs to be taken into account as well. Another setback is the book does not delve deep into each subject matter. As an example, for pricing, this book highlights various methods of pricing such as price penetration, price skimming, target return on sales, cost-plus or standard markup. It provides definitions and only brief elaborations. For further understanding, other specialized resources have to be used such as courses or books on pricing, etc.
Nevertheless, this book is highly recommended for someone who is interested to gain an initial understanding on marketing.
Easy read.......2007-06-08
This is a great marketing and management book, easy to read, up to date examples and study cases. The website also provides videos of the cases if you don't like to read.
Marketing book.......2006-11-06
The book was received in great condition. There was no CD in it as I expected, but the overall purchase was very pleasant. Thank you.
Excellent Overview of marketing for undergrads.......2006-08-08
This book is an excellent resource for undergraduate marketing classes. The teacher materials (videos and cases) are solid and interesting. I have used this textbook for several years with great success.
I would like to see a bit more work in the book on B2B E-Commerce, which is so important as a business driver today.
Excellent topics with real-life samples.......2006-05-16
I love to read this book. The book contains interesting topics for basic marketing. However, it's a bit pricey on the shelf.
Book Description
This highly successful undergraduate corporate finance text is recognized for its tradition as the best corporate finance textbook at teaching finance. Block and Hirt's approach focuses on pedagogy and how students learn. With the Ninth edition, the authors' careful writing style and step-by-step explanations make the text easy to understand. They also have presented a strong real world emphasis throughout this new edition. Not only will students find real-world emphasis in text examples using "hot" companies recently mentioned in the business press, but there are also Finance-In-Action boxed readings that give an in-depth look at real business decisions, and consistent placement of real company logos in the text's margins. The Ninth edition continues to present a simple and understandable story of finance for students. All of these features come together to present a comprehensive story of finance.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Self Study.......2005-08-13
The text is very easy to read and simple to follow along. The self study guide that comes with it is very handy to get a full understanding of the mathematical equations. I was disappointed that the weblink provided in the book to get more up to date information from Standard & Poor's was not working. I had to order the 11th edition for my second finance class but that was by order of the university. When the 11th edition arrived the weblink in that book worked. I really enjoy reading the book on my commute to and from work. I recommend this book to even the curious person who wants a better understanding of retirement and pension plans.
I will always refer back to the two texts for all my finance needs.
Foundations of Financial Management, 10th Edition.......2003-09-28
Delivery was terrific. I received the book 6 days after I ordered it and it's brand new!
Very Good, But Not Excellent.......2002-07-12
As an undergrad taking his first finance class, I have have found this book to be quite useful. The concepts are explained in simplified, less-complicated ways and make reading each chapter less frustrating than perhaps some others (compared to some of the econ texts that I have had to use!).
It is well-written, concise, and employs some very straightforward, easy-to-follow graphs/diagrams. Also, both the formulas and the exercises at the end of each chapter are quite useful.
The only reason that I did not give it a 5-star rating is because some of the chapters did not use enough "real-world examples" or hypothetical situations in some of the more challenging lessons. This might better aid those students who are new to finance or simply need another angle to better grasp the idea.
A comprehensive, well-written finance textbook.......2002-03-02
This text is characterized by its extreme simplicty in explanation and presentation of its material. The flow of presenting the contents of each chapter is so sequentially logical that it makes the reader grasp the financial concepts very fast and effectively. Colorful illustrative diagrams are employed extensively to facilitate a high level of understanding and help the learner develop the necessary conceptual links between inter-related topics and items. In addition, it is very comprehensive and intensely supported with a "luggage" of real-life cases .I recommend this excellent text to everyone who needs to take an introductory course in corporate finance.
An excellent book for those who do not wish to learn finance.......2001-06-04
I used to be "illiterate" in terms of finance and I thought that this book would help me to comprehend the basic principles of corporate finance. Unfortunately, the content of this book is completely implicit. The authors wrote a book without taking into account the nature of the audience. Consequently, this book does not address to financial managers or to any kind of managers or even students. The only people who can really understand the content of this book is the authors themselves!
After having read many books regarding corporate finance and financial management, I have become familiar with this discipline. There are hundreds of well-structured remarkable books that you can purchase at a lower price...
Book Description
Essentials of Corporate Finance, 5/e by Ross, Westerfield, and Jordan is written to convey the most important concepts and principles of corporate finance at a level that is approachable for a wide audience. The authors retain their modern approach to finance, but have distilled the subject down to the essential topics in 18 chapters. They believe that understanding the “why” is just as important, if not more so, than understanding the “how,” especially in an introductory course. Three basic themes emerge as their central focus: 1. An emphasis on intuition—separate and explain the principles at work on a common sense, intuitive level before launching into specifics. Underlying ideas are discussed first in general terms, then followed by specific examples that illustrate in more concrete terms how a financial manager might proceed in a given situation. 2. A unified valuation approach—Net Present Value is treated as the basic concept underlying corporate finance. Every subject the authors cover is firmly rooted in valuation, and care is taken to explain how decisions have valuation effects. 3. A managerial focus—Students learn that financial management concerns management. The role of financial manager as decision maker is emphasized and they stress the need for managerial input and judgment.

Great!.......2007-07-26
I think the book does a good job of simplifying finance for those of us who are beginners in the field. They give clear, step-by-step examples so that it is easy to understand
Finance Textbook.......2007-07-23
The textbook's price was competitive, it was delivered in a timely manner as promised and in mint condition as promised.
I enjoyed doing business with this supplier.
Not sure why someone rated it poorly.......2007-06-02
I'm an MBA student with quite a number of courses finished. I'm over half way through the finance course that uses this book and have found it to be written very well. The example problems are great, and the explanations are thorough. Our professor did make available the answers to the questions at the back of the book and used the powerpoints developed by the author. All in all the only drawback I could find was cost (as usual with college texts). As a side note, several students did use the 4th edition in our class with the permission of the instructor and did just fine.
Finance Textbook.......2007-02-11
The description of the textbook on the web was confusing and resulted in the buying the wrong book; but the return policy and credit correction worked very well;
Good for a textbook.......2007-01-03
I had to buy this book and use it for Finance class. It was helpful and used real world examples.

Customer Reviews:
Best if used with a printed copy.......2007-08-23
If you have never read Think and Grow Rich before, I would suggest reading the print version first (or at least have a copy handy). Since you will more than likely want to re-read or refer back to certain passages (i.e., the exercises that you are asked to perform).
I've read it several times over the years and thought that the audio book would be a good way to turn my 40 minute commute to work into more productive time.
Unlike the abridged version, there are no anecdotes from Napoleon Hill interspersed throughout this audiobook. However, there is a great introduction by W. Clement Stone.
I would recommend getting this version along with the abridged version simply because I think it's fascinating to hear Napoleon Hill and W. Clement Stone speak about this philosophy in their own words.
A timeless classic.......2007-07-03
Think and grow rich is a must read for anyone with a dream. Hill describes in inspiring detail how a determined and thoughtful human can achieve virtually anything with the right attitude, plans and of course...thoughts. Dollar-for-dollar the best buy on the Internet.
Read the bible then read this!.......2007-06-08
What more can I say! If you need an attitude adjustment... here it is! Think about it! If you think you can... why cant you? This book deals with that from a near clinical point of view as well as a lamen joe point of view! Everyone on earth needs this book!
Content is great, cheap , crappy paperback copy.......2007-06-07
My comment is for the production of this paperback, not the content.
This is the poorest quality paperback I've ever seen or purchased. Large chunks of pages came loose from the glue binding almost immediately after opening the book the first time. I was on a trip and constantly had to deal with more pages coming loose and trying to fly around. Really poor quality repro.

This is one of my all-time favorite books which I re-read it at least once every other year. Ask anyone who has read this book and virtually everyone will tell you this is one of the best you will ever own. If you feel you need help succeeding in anything, then use this book as a coach. If you have the ambition, but need a plan - this book will help you. If you just need a pick me up, just read some of the stories intertwined - this book will help you.
This book is an all time great dealing with success and personal management. Dealing with practical methods for creating in oneself the ability to do whatever one puts their mind to. Starting with an idea (hence the name) one can expect to use this information to create a way to approach life that should produce positive results.
---**** THE BOTTOM LINE ****---

$ This version is the way it was originally published. It is older, yes, but newer versions seem to lose some of the original "flavor" and "intent".
$ If you haven't noticed, there's no question about whether or not you SHOULD get this book; the only decision is which version.
Book Description
Market-defining since it was first introduced,
International Business 6e by Charles W. L. Hill, continues to set the standard for international business textbooks. In writing the book, Charles Hill draws on his experience in teaching, writing, and global consulting to create the most thorough, up-to-date, and thought-provoking text on the market. Because many issues in international business are complex, the text explores the pros and cons of economic theories, government policies, business strategies, organizational structures, etc. Hill’s: International Business is known for its strong emphasis on strategy, and for maintaining a tight integrated flow between chapters. Hill’s book is practical in nature, focusing on the managerial implications of each topic on the actual practice of international business. The author’s passion and enthusiasm for the international business arena is apparent on every page as he strives to make important theories interesting, informative, and accessible to all students.

Hill's International Business.......2007-09-27
Great book for my MBA course in International Business. It is well organized, full of clearly defined principles, and loaded with case studies.
Don't waste your money.......2007-06-28
I think that these reviews are for the textbook and not for this "outline." This product is nothing but a glossary and binder paper. It isn't worth half the price. I'm very, very disappointed. Most of the definitions are repeated in other chapters and it gives definitions for words like "Disney," and "Accounting." This thing is completely useless to me.
Culture, Economics, Stategy, and Corportate Functions.......2007-05-17
I've used previous editions of this text in my international business course, and have decided to adopt this one as well. The text does a great job of hitting every topic that international business people/corporations need to know. The text covers country differences, economics, strategy, and corporate functions.
Another Amazon review incorrectly suggested that the author of this text is biased politically and in favor of larger firms. If the author intended to introduce a political bias in the text he certainly could have done it with the cases, but it is clear from reading such cases as the Kellogg Brown & Root case on page 190 that the author has no particular axe to grind. It is, in short, simply impossible to guess the author's political orientation.
The book also has no bias in favor of larger firms. The business school in which I teach is (in fact) oriented towards entrepreneurship and smaller firms. The text was selected, in part, because the information imparted would be just as valuable to small firms as it would be to the large. The author specifically addresses the topic of "mini-multinationals" as well as topics that would be of interest primarily to smaller firms.
smooth transaction, exact product, nice&easy supplier.......2007-05-14
exact product at an affordable price w a smooth transaction
Bias written into text.......2007-05-13
If you don't mind your information being written from the Western, pro Big-Business, capitalist view, the bias conveyed throughout the text won't be a problem. But if you are looking for something objective, something to fairly present the concepts associated with globalization, search elsewhere.
In the first two chapters alone, several instances of bias are written into the text. For example, in the first chapter, protesters of the WTO are referred to as "anarchists" and in the second chapter the difference between communists and social democrats is claimed to be that communists use violence in their revolutions. This is clearly not the case. While historically this may be true of the revolts, this is not even close to the fundamental difference between the two groups. For the first example, it can be seen that thousands of people gather to protest the WTO and it is certain that a select few, if any, consider themselves anarchists.
It is clear where the author stands!

Five Stars for a Classic!.......2007-09-19
If I had known how simple it would be to change my life I would have done it long ago. I was lucky enough to be given this book by a dear friend. With proper thinking my dreams have come true. I sold my book Never Trust A Man In Alligator Loafers in just three weeks! Life has become a series of "creative solutions" and I'm happy for it. My goal is to open my mind to allow the *really big thoughts* to come through and actualize my potential. I know that when I think it's possible it is. And life magically gets a lot more fun!
Read With A Group.......2007-09-04
First of all, of the various versions of "Think and Grow Rich" that are out there, this one is my favorite. The Editor has really done his homework to bring Napoleon Hill's Original work into historical context without bringing in modern day examples like other versions do.
Secondly, I highly recommend reading this book at the rate of a chapter a week with a group study. I had read this book by myself before, but have really accelerated my Awareness by reading it every 3-4 months with a different group of people. You don't have to do it that often, but each time you read this book, you get more and more out of it!
Finally, don't just read the book, but follow the specific instructions laid out in the book. This is the book that every success book out there is based on...it's the original. Do this, and you'll find greatness.
Cheers from the Windy City,
Ryan McIntyre
Think and grow rich.......2007-08-28
This book will be around forever. I have read it at least 10 times now and find some great enlightenment every thin.
Excellent Book On How To Live Life.......2007-08-27
Great book! I am half way through the book and so far it is definitely worth the price. The book gives insight on how to live like the past entrepreneurs. It teaches you to think in new ways and to use your mind to achieve all your goals. It shows you don't have to have a super high IQ to get rich or be some famous athlete or movie star. It focuses on hard work and being able to create ideas that are unique and powerful. Buy this book because you won't regret it.
Dare to Be Rich!.......2007-08-25
Think and Grow Rich, originally written in 1937 has created more millionaires that any book in the history of wealth-building and personal success literature. It all began with Think and Grow Rich, and no one's knowledge and reading on the secrets of success is complete without having read this classic first. This is the book that started it all. It is the first, the best and will forever reign the number 1 success and wealth book ever written. When you read just the first 3 chapters, you will see why I say and everyone who has ever read this book and has given its principles a sincere try, knows that he who follows Think and Grow Rich CANNOT fail.
After you read Think and Grow Rich, I recommend that you also read:

Thank you, Mr. Hill, we are forever grateful.
Book Description
Physical Metallurgy Principles is intended for use in an introductory course in physical metallurgy and is designed for all engineering students at the junior or senior level. The approach is largely theoretical, but covers all aspects of physical metallurgy and behavior of metals and alloys. The treatment used in this textbook is in harmony with a more fundamental approach to engineering education.
Customer Reviews:
May be great reference, but not good for learning.......2007-05-04
It has been three years since I had taken a material science-like course. So, I had hoped, that by opening this book, I would relearn the concepts I had forgotten.
Focus:
An intense look at the physcial metallurgy of metals, beginning with methods, going to crystallography, phase diagrams, and focusing on specific metals (iron-carbon, steels, etc.).
Good:
This book goes into great details. Metallography, crystallography are explained, many concepts are in great depth.
Bad:
This is absolutely not a good book if you don't know much on the subject or are rusty (like me). A lot of time is spent on the intricacies on microscopy. Many of the concepts are presented in too much detail. I feel that instead of learning about the properties of materials and material selection that I spend most of the time learning about every detail involved in the creation of dislocations. While this is very informative, as an engineer, I need to be able to select apropos materials, not spout how an electron microscope works or the fine details in edge dislocation. Homework problems are odd. And would it hurt if the pictures could have been colored?
Overall:
Again, good reference. Bad at teaching or reteaching you material science.
Very good foundation.......2000-06-24
I believe that this book is an excellent text for understanding physical metallurgy for the beginner . This is also an excellent reference manual for later information.

Customer Reviews:
Not that great.......2007-07-27
I originally purchased this book because of the glowing reviews. I also liked the idea of more tests on the CD-ROM.
I am taking my GED to get into a good college. I have been out of school for a couple years and felt that the GED is a better option for me than going back to high school. I had originally left due to not being challenged enough academically. So, there goes my search for a good study book. This is NOT it.
Firstly, this book is massive. It's huge and floppy. It will make a good paperweight in the future though. Not really a problem, just a slight annoyance.
Secondly, the CD-ROM tests stink. Plain and simple. I have passed every practice exam I have ever taken including the ones in this book. This isn't the case with the CD-ROM tests. I paid the extra for it and had I known what I was really going to get, well, I wouldn't have put out the extra change for it.
Thirdly, if you are like me and desire a bit more of a "workbook" type situation then you will be greatly disappointed. I taught myself all kinds of things in grade school as well as junior high but I used workbooks. I got very bored and frustrated with this book because I felt I was reading and reading and not really learning or practicing anything. I like to learn things thoroughly and comprehend them completely before moving on. I felt that this book just went from one section to another and then only had a few practice questions. Not good.
I have a Steck-Vaughn GED math book and I like the layout a lot more. They have workbooks to go along with the main book for all sections and that really appeals to me. I will be purchasing those books along with the workbooks and using this book with it to supplement some.
The GED is not easy. This book reflects that point, most definitely, but it is not as thorough as I would like it to be. However, this might be the right book for others. Learning styles are different for all of us.
Doubt.......2007-07-20
I don't know what a GED test look like; after studying a section or this book, I feel the material printed on this book is too easy for me, it's really that easy to pass GED? I don't know. My doubt could only be resolved when I go to take the test.
McGraw- Hill GED.......2007-01-11
It's easy to understand for this presentation. I strongly recommend this book to everyone need to have a higher education.
Worked for me........2006-11-30
I scored 684 on my GED. I would actually say that the test questions on the book were harder than the actual test.
What is most important when reading the question in this book, and the test itself, especially in "controversial" areas such as social studies etc, is that you can ignore whatever "biases" you have (or perceive the book to have, even though this perception is likely to your own biases) by carefully reading the question and ONLY considering the aspects that the question raises. So take the practice exams on the CD-ROM, read and truly try to understand any questions you might have got wrong, because within the content of the question there should not be many answers assumed incorrectly by McGraw-Hill. I think I counted only couple of question from all of them that had the 'wrong' answer, to best of my knowledge. Still, I think it was a great study book.
BEST RESOURCE FOR GED SUCCESS!!!.......2006-04-01
I am a vocational counselor helping adults return to school to learn a new career. Most have been out of school for 10-30 years. This tool helps them recover years of ability lost to non-use, but most especially to score much higher on their entrance exams to the colleges, which greatly reduce the number of remedial classes they have to take to bring their skills up enough to enter a degree program. In addition, those that dropped out of High School have been able to get their GED within as little as a week, or the time it takes to get scheduled into the local testing center (usually at your local Community College). It has been the single most important resource for nearly every student I have, and has proven its worth time and time again. You cannot lose with this one!
