Book Description
After Ren battles a DearS Biter attempting to recapture her, Takeya asserts his rights as Ren's owner, thereby invalidating the Biter's mission. However, this just makes things more complicated. Takeya's life is further complicated by the arrival of his little sister Natsuki, a rapid fan of the alien DearS who immediately declares herself Ren's bosom buddy. Of course, she doesn't necessarily take it lightly that Ren declares herself Takeya's slave.

Very Generic Plotline, but with an ok twist.......2005-04-14
This manga, DearS, is very similiar to every other "boy finds robot/alien/whatever girl" type of a story... where the predictable quasi-girl acts as some kind of a temptress and the guy is not like any man on this planet, and somehow, through stupidity usually, acts like a jerk to the girl. So, with that in mind, this is almost like every other manga ever made... Chobits, Saber Marionette J, Mahoromatic, AI Love You, Tenchi, and the list goes on.
If you like those types, then this may be worth the read. But, I mean, if you were able to read all those I listed above and still not become sick of this genre. This story has some very weird parts of the story where you may have no clue what is going on, but like every story that follows that same general plot, it has some interesting stories and character interactions. As well, I give a thumbs-up to the art... probably a little bit more risque than the recommended 13 and over, but still good.

affordable.......2007-08-26
a quick search of Amazon shows other texts on mining, but they are several hundred dollars. Written for professional engineers, they are a ready reference for their daily work. This particular book now has a current version, but this was satisfactory for my needs as someone curious about mine design and the economics of ores and metals. As you might imagine, there is more to everything than what we are exposed to.
Invaluable Reference........2001-03-26
This book is not a set of miscellaneous papers but a book of detailed planned chapter by chapter guide to open pit design and planning. This is the first of its kind and has had an uncomprehensible amount of detailed background research and planning making it an invaluable reference for any professional involved in open pit design, for both beginners and experienced experts. And for those not experienced with mine planning packages it includes CSMINE a scaled down software of the major mine planning systems which takes you step by step through core basic processes and principles used in resource modelling and open pit design. I highly recommend this book. Digby Millikan. Geolite Mining Systems. Consultant in resource modelling and open pit design.
excelent for mining design.......1998-09-04
the book is academic and practical for student and mining engineers.

The best part is when Anakin's pit droid helps him get the power plug from Sebulba. He has to be brave. The brave little droid helps Anakin put the power plug in the engine. Everybody cheers when Anakin wins the race.
Pit Droids Rule!.......2000-04-19
This was a good little book. The thing that impressed me with it is that the story actually fits into the continuity of The Phantom Menace. The art is well-done and was obviously done by someone who understands and takes pride in the Star Wars universe. A lot of books that are similar to this seem to be done by people who hadn't even seen the relevant movie. Incidentally, George Lucas has claimed that the pit droids are his favorite characters from Episode 1.

CUTE!?.......2007-05-18
I found the first volume a little boring, but you must see the anime or pick up the first volume before reading volume 2.
anyways...
it was interesting and the art reminded me of W.I.T.C.H. (Comic Book),
and hina Ichingo was absolutley a baby! this volume was very interesting although it centered around Hina Ichingo, this volume was the most interesting to me so far, I already have volume 1-4, and this was the most interesting to me, my manga collection builds up and I cannot wait to get my hands on DEARS, I cannot wait to get DEARS and Yotsuba&.
good continueation of an interesting series.......2006-09-15
rozen maiden vol 2 picks up where the second one leaves off now this is an interesting series it does follow a very standard anime formula but even then it does it well there is a definate sense of menace about even the main character. what will happen when alice is born and who is the laplace no mia i guess we just have to wait to find out
I was rather shocked..........2006-09-06
...to find myself liking a PEACH-PIT title but, even after the warning I recieved concerning the group's work on DEARS, I decided to pick up a copy of volume one (don't start the series without checking it out as volume two picks up mid-crisis).
{shock}
Since then, I've been eagerly awaiting for volume two and more adventures of the agoraphobic Jun with the precise and almost imperial Shinku in her battles with Sugintou (though you don't get to see her much in this volume).
The main addition to the cast in this book is Hinaichigo (Little stawberry?), a rather bratty Rozen Maiden whose master is an aquaintence of Jun's (and, no doubt, connected to the dark trauma afflicting him that has only been hinted at so far).
Hinaichigo is a bit co-dependent (to the point of misusing her host), and when you have that in a supernatural being, you have to expect things to get a little out of hand...
The art is soft and, for lack of a better term, delicate. Character design and dmensions shift to enhance and/or change moods fluidly (the sign of good plotting/writing). The story is brisk enough to keep you interested, while vague enough to maintain the certain degree of mystery required of such titles.
Keep an eye out late in the book for the fourth Rozen Maiden to make her appearance (along with her own endearing personality quirk).

Book Description
It all started when Uncle Frank came for a visitand stayed, and stayed, and stayed. It seemed nothing would rouse him from his comfortable spot in front of the TV. That is, until the day he hung an old coat hanger on a stick and picked up some unusual signals emanating from the backyard. All at once Uncle Frank was bound and determined to find whatever was buried out there, no matter how long it took. So he started to dig a hole--this really big hole--and what happened next would make more than just family history. In this hip, off-the-wall story, Matthew McElligott pairs a child's-eye view of eccentric adult behavior with brightly-colored drawings for hilarious results. Matthew McElligott is the author and illustrator of The Truth about Cousin Ernie's Head (Simon & Schuster). This is his first book with Viking. Matthew McElligott lives in Albany, New York.
Customer Reviews:
My favorite book to read aloud to the kids.......2004-03-27
Not your ordinary chilren's book, this one is well-written, intriguing, and above all, FUN. I love reading it to my kids, and the wonderful illustrations keep them engaged as Dad hams it up for them. Makes reading to your kids as much fun for you as it is for them. Highly recommended.
Uncle Frank's Pit...Great Fun!.......1998-09-03
Uncle Frank's Pit is one of those books that you just can't keep to yourself! After I finished it, I had to share it with my family and friends....then they ran out and bought their own copies! (Honest!)
The story is told from a young boy's point of view. When Uncle Frank shows up one day, he overstays his welcome. Why is he there? What is he looking for? When the boy and his family finally find out, everyone is in for a surprise...and I mean everyone!
Matthew McElligott combines clever and colorful illustrations with a "what-will-he-do-next" storyline. The little details hidden in the background of his illustrations made me laugh out loud! But don't believe me; read it for yourself!

Customer Reviews:
From This Seed in a Book, a Lifetime was Planted.......2006-12-05
Our kids are our seedlings and we nourish them with our heart and soul.Nothing else we do comes close except in our love given to each other.
They, our children, come to us unique and complex, beyond anything I ever concieved possible, though the love we feel for our child is so elemental and so simple. It's there. That said I am amazed this story was the favorite of favorites for my daughter Sylvia when at four she entered kindergarten. That was 13 years ago September. That first week I requested she be allowed to read "Cherries and Cherry Pits" as her birthday present to her class (what did I know of cupcakes then?) so we could then donate it to her new class as well as a few others a practice I still feel should be universal courtesy to classrooms. I can still see the incredulous look on Mrs. Wren's(her teachers) face a momentary fleeting insight into her perception of the request. What did I know? First parenting it seemed natural enough. Putting my daughter into a hood school seemed natural too, I was teaching there and I felt strongly together we would make a place for any and every child. I'd never want to teacher where my child wouldn't be welcome and happy and so it went.We lived this life. Fine until NCLB literally ripped the school to pieces chasing away experienced teachers many into retirement, kids to other sides of town, stripping art, music, implementing canned workbooks and stilling the possibilities and potentials.
That my Sylvia heard the message in this book speaks to my now 17 year olds' inner core. "This" is a story told in child voice. "This" is a story of a young artist. "This" is a story of a young girl in the now.
"This" is the story of a writer, dreamer, observer.
"This" is a story of a young girl who weaves tales of cherries and pits until in telling her own story of a vision of all the pits growing we find the why, it's growing to make the neighborhood filled with the beauty of the cherry tree blossom and the beauty of the cherry tree fruit. And it needs it.
My teaching life, that my daughter saw as real, the art I created, the actions she watched, she saw, the writer told here I realize tonight within the life we lead educating, working in community, striving to bring to fruition the joy of reading, of life of living-it was the same story-different version. Our cherry pits and our flowering blossom.
I read somewhere once about the cherry tree and it's symbolic meanings. I think that's interwoven here into what remains for me a highly metaphorical tale. This is a story for children and families.
It was a story once in our old Houghton Mifflin whole language based reading series, when our reading series was driven not by the madness of NCLB nonsense but by those that recognized that a story, well-told, rich, rising from cultures, from contexts, from places of human thought that reflects our observations, our capacity to find ways to speak to the young through our tales, this is something to motivate, to help , to educate. After reading with my first graders for years I was always able to make "this" stories from the way the writer initiated her set of stories, or use it to teach cherry related work or to get markers and seriously look at illustrating our stories once we reached in deep and found "our stories" that need to be told. It's phenomenal for using with children to teach "voice". I recommend this with children and remain proud of the day I came upon my daughter happily reading it aloud at three just to herself.
Please consider it for your daughters or sons.
An all-time favorite.......2005-10-29
I have loved Cherries and Cherry Pits for as long as I can remember. I love how this story tells the story of three different chaacters lives and the lives of their friends and family. I remember it being read me when I was in kindergarten. I love everything about the book down to the hand drawn pictures that depict how many children draw at that age. I still have my original copy of the book and will keep it forever.
This book is as sweet and juicy as a cherry itself..........1997-05-17
As a teenager not many of my friends like children's books, but I have and always will have a profound affection for them. "Cherries and Cherry Pits" continues to be a favorite of mine- your minds eye can relish on the fresh, colorful drawings whilst you read of the simple pleasures derived from a yummy little fruit. This book always leaves me with a little dance in my step, an artistic itch in my fingers and a mouth watering for cherries

Emotional follow-up to "The Axe".......2006-10-29
At times this story is quite heavy with emotion, however the characters are so well developed, by the end of the book you feel as if they are a part of you. the authors chooses a very interesting time in Noway's history to set her story. Viking traditions now being governed by Christian ethics. Fascinating and very well written with historical accuracy.
The story continues.......2002-06-04
In the second book of the Master of Hestvicken series Olav & Ingunn are home together at last on Olav's family manor at Hestvicken. Their life together is not a happy one however due to Ingunn's ill health and Olav's heavy sense of guilt.
This is a beautiful Norse saga in spite of the depression of the main characters, the attention to historical detail is wonderful. Readers of "Kristen Lavransdatter" will enjoy the chance encounter in the Snake Pit between Olav and Lavrans Bjorgulfsson and his wife Ragnfrid.
Book Description
Edgar Allan Poe's tales of terror, murder, and mystery are among the most celebrated in American literature. This carefully-chosen collection includes "The Gold Bug," "The Oval Portrait," "The Pit and the Pendulum," "The Cask of Amontillado," "Some Words With a Mummy," "The Tell-Tale Heart," and "The Murders in the Rue Morgue."
With striking illustrations and extended captions unique to the Whole Story, this collection provides background information for each story that modern readers could otherwise access only through a broad range of supplemental research--from details of the Spanish Inquisition in "The Pit and the Pendulum" to the Parisian detective milieu of "The Murders in the Rue Morgue." This distinctive approach places each of Poe's stories--all published in the mid-nineteenth century--within the context of their era, bringing them vividly to life.
