Not everything was my style but great ideas
Helpful in Wedding Planning.......2007-03-22
This book was one of the better books I've read for providing useful ideas that I could actually do myself. I only ended up using a couple of the ideas presented in this book but it was helpful for me in my wedding planning.
Parties NOT wedding........2007-03-10
This book would be cool if you had to plan different types of parties. There were only about 2 ideas we picked for our wedding. A lot of the ideas are kind of cheesey. They look very homemade. But there are good ideas in this for kids parties. Just my opinion! Good luck to everyone getting married!!
The Perfect Wedding Details: More Than 100 Ideas for Personalizing Your Wedding.......2007-01-10
I think the book is beautiful. I have a small wedding business that I run out of my home and this book gave me some great ideas.
Not what I expected... .......2006-05-27
This book is helpful for the couple that is creating many of the elements associated with their wedding -- favors, centerpieces, items for the reception (chair covers, seating cards, etc.)
Each 2-page spread features a photo of the item and a list of supplies and instructions to create it.
I'd suggest checking it out in the library or bookstore before buying...

Customer Reviews:
Buy a bridal mag instead.......2007-05-03
There are limited ideas and since trends change from season to season you are better off buying a bridal magazine. If you are looking for help planning a wedding there are better sources online. Watching cable television can give you ideas and save you some money; money that you can actually use for the wedding reception.
A Pro Tells It Like It Is.......2007-03-27
In this day of everyone thinking they have the talent, time and the option to "do-it-yourself", to shop cheap in price clubs or on the internet (or "know" someone in the business who owes you a favor), and also have access to countless mediocre DYI television shows and books, it is refreshing to see a book that tells it like it is.
If you want and can afford a top notch wedding done by true professionals, then lucky you. This book can guide you and your professional team to some amazing ideas.
This book gives one many, many ideas that many others have paid much more for. Some may seem over-the-top (average ideas do not make it into books), but these ideas will get a bride or wedding planner/designer/florist/cake baker all thinking and dreaming, and perhaps taking a wedding somewhere other than a factory, cookie cutter production. Anyone can flip open the yellow pages and go to the tacky wedding factory that every town and city seems to have. Anyone can have a backyard wedding. Anyone can elope to Las Vegas. And that's great if that's what you want.
Not everyone can plan a wedding, make beautiful bouqets, bake a great wedding cake, do lovely caligraphy, etc. - or write, edit and produce wedding articles and books. It truly does take a village of some kind to produce a wedding (or a wedding book).
Maria McBride-Mellinger is a consumate professional who plays in the big leagues. She has talent, taste, artistry, heart (she still gets enthusiastic and creative about the wedding business which she has been a trendsetter in for years). The extensive and generous directory of sources at the back of the book is pure gold. Even if you are in the business, these sources and recommendations would be a chore to come by.
The book has high production values, great photography; wimsy and reality; research and inspiration. It is very hard to keep reinventing the old wedding wheel, and kudos to Maria for doing it again!
The lot.......2007-02-20
This was not what I was looking for but what it's for is great. It give's you everything from start to finish. I'm not going to fault it just because it did'nt have all flower's in it because that was what i was looking for. It will be great for someone who is starting from the start of there wedding. It give's great idea's.
The last 112 pages of this book contains lists of vendors.......2006-07-28
My first disappointment with this book was that out of 348 pages, the last 112 pages are credits, acknowledgements, and pages upon pages of vendor lists ranging from calligraphy to ethnic artifacts. I could not believe when I got to page 236, the credits began! My disappointment was complete when I turned to the Winter section. I am having a winter wedding and thought this book might provide some ideas on winter wedding receptions. Not so... The chapter focuses on a single home wedding. I had hoped the book would cover pictures and ideas of multiple wedding receptions. I was so disappointed that I wrote this review. It's the first and only review of a book I've ever written. Don't waste your money on this one.
Whimsical, refreshing, inspiring . . ........2006-04-28
. . . just a few words to describe this book. Like her other books, The Perfect Wedding Reception is NOT a how-to book. Nor does it suggest that you have to do everything within its pages. Instead Maria gives us ideas and sparks our imagination so we can create a wedding that is classy, elegant, and fun!
Sure, it would cost a fortune to plan a wedding that is exactly like something out of these pages, but how can we find inspiration (and avoid a "cookie cutter" wedding) if we don't dare to dream big? Dare to pick one or two ideas from this book that you like, and use them. If they're on a grand scale, pare them down to suit your tastes and budget.
As ever, the photography is beautiful.
My only complaint is the large resources section - 100 pages that a vast majority of brides will never use.

Warm and Soothing Soup for the Soul.......2007-07-16
I got this book for my niece, soon to be married. She LOVES the Chicken Soup series, and, who can't use some soup for the soul, to sooth the nerves on such an important day!
This book is a must have for all new brides!.......2004-11-06
I saw this book advertised online and I bought it at our local book store when I became engaged. If you are a bride to be or in love or just love romance? This is the book for you the stories will tug at your heart strings, make you laugh, cry and even think about your new love. I am getting married this Nov 04 and the stories are AWESOME!
When you get busy with life's details reach for this book and find a comfortable chair and get cozy. You will not be sorry that you bought this book.I'm glad I bought this book it's fantastic.
The Important Things.......2004-08-31
Upon reading this book, I am immediately reminded of how strong the bond between couples in love must be, and how they can be. The stories in "Bride's Soul" consistently serve to regenereate and reinforce the fact that a lifelong love becomes a relationship in which the importance of the individual's existence gladly takes a back seat to the value of the couple's happiness together.
Love is a matter of respect, understanding, admiration, loyalty, strength, honor and commitment; and this book exemplifies all of these grand qualities in a language anyone could understand. I recommend this heartwarming book to any person who wonders about love, and all the power that it holds.
Thank You
Chicken Soup for the Bride's Soul.......2004-08-17
This great book had me laughing and crying with touching stories on every page. It is not only a great gift for any new bride, but for anyone who has ever been a bride. An excellent anniversary gift idea. This book puts the important things in life into crystal clear perspective. If you like a good love story you will LOVE 101 of them in one book!
Energizes the motivation to plan your wedding.......2004-05-02
This book is great for Bride's to be and Veteran Bride's alike. I bought this book prior to my March 2004 wedding. It offered me insight and motivation to keep planning my wedding. It is hysterical and touching. The cartoons are amusing and they can almost guarantee you will find at least one you can relate to. Highly recommended for anyone who has or is about to embark on the path of marriage.

Fussy.......2007-02-20
This book I found was very fussy. I just felt it was a bit over the top for a bride. I did love the colour's and flower's though.
GORGEOUS flower ideas for the bride.......2006-09-06
You'll get beautiful ideas for your bouquets, for the mothers' flowers, for decor and spotlight pieces. Maria McBride Mellinger has created a timeless collection of gorgeous images and explanations that will help you create your own perfectly personalized floral pieces.
This book would be a terrific engagement gift, as well.
A True Classic.......2006-04-08
Keep in Mind that this book is going on 15 years and it is still relevant and beautiful. This book has been part of my collection since 1995. I work in the industry and still draw from this book. It is a thin book, but it has a strong impact.
Bridal Flowers.......2005-10-06
Great work - I'm a florist and I am constantly gathering information for my artistry.
Her ideas are classic, yet fresh.......2003-09-05
As a professional bridal consultant, I keep an extensive library of wedding related books on hand to help my brides design their own weddings. Ms. McBride's Bridal Flowers is one of my favorites. It is full of wonderful ideas - not just the traditional "must have" wedding flowers such as bouquets & boutonnieres, but the out-of-the-ordinary (but inspiring) boas, decorated lampposts & gilded calla lilies. Ms. McBride shows that flowers are for more than just being carried or worn. The large color photos are fantastic. So many other books have little or no photos, or hand drawn diagrams that leaves the reader wondering. Ms. McBride's book lets you see exactly what she is talking about. It doesn't claim to be a how-to book, but perfect to take along when visiting your floral designer.

Customer Reviews:
Inspiring yet practical.......2003-07-21
If you need help and inspiration in planning your wedding there's no better guide than Maria McBride Mellinger. Of all Maria's books, The Perfect Wedding is still the one to buy for everything you need to know to plan and bring off a wonderful day. Don't bother with anything else. The Perfect Wedding Reception (also by Maria) is good but too much of it is already covered better and in more depth in The Perfect Wedding. I used several books to plan my own wedding (and my sister's) and kept coming back to this one for Maria's inspiring yet practical ideas. I especially love her bouquet ideas.
Truly Enjoyable Book.......2001-12-16
A good "getting started" book for those who just got engaged. Creative ideas for modern weddings - table settings, room decorations, floral arrangements, wedding favors, and more. Exquisite still photography helps to inspire --- And, if you liked any of the ideas in the book, she has a good-sized Resources section at the back of the book. There, you can find the necessary contacts in order to replicate some of the ideas for your own wedding.
Classy.......2001-11-03
Very classy & sophisticated decoration ideas for those who have money to spend; however, ideas can be adapted to your style and budget; sharp still photography; useful book that walks you through the finer points of planning a wedding - from the engagement all the way to the wedding favors.
Lovely to look at while dreaming of your wedding, but..........2000-07-26
If you recently became engaged and delicate visions of blossoms, lace and bubbling champagne are as yet unhindered by the actual planning process, then this would be a very nice idea book for you. It would be a much appreciated gift for a newly engaged friend.
I consider it a beautifully bound magazine without the annoying ads and pull-out tabs. The advice given on flowers, caterers and musicians is not much more substantial than what you'd find on the newstand, but the difference lies in the quality of the photographs.
The photographs are truly stunning - each are infused with incredible light. The most useful, I found to be those of flower arrangements. This can be used as a partial reference when going to the florist. I also enjoyed some of the decorating ideas for table settings. But remember, it's not extensive. As mentioned by another reviewer, the resource section might not list vendors in your area, and there are no website addresses.
If you want an equally, if not more eye-catching bridal volume with more detailed advice, try The Best of Martha Stewart Living : Weddings.
Great foundation for planning.......2000-02-26
This book is beautifully done. Some of the photos and ideas are definitely high-end (as other reviewers have noted), but the book also gives very practical advice about what kinds of questions to ask yourself and businesses as you plan your wedding. (You can adapt their ideas to your own budget.) Information is given on everything from engagement rings, to floral arrangements, to types of receptions. This book is most helpful if you're at the beginning of the planning process.

Book Description
"Silk, tulle, satin and lace-mere yards of fabric to some, but to every bride are at the heart of a romantic dream -- her wedding dress."
So begins Maria McBride-Mellinger's paean to the wedding dress, illustrated celebration of this most glorious of dresses. A contributing editor at Bride's & Your New Home magazine, the author brings to this gorgeous volume an appreciation not only of style and fashion history, but also of the cultural and personal significance of the wedding gown.
No other garment is as imbued with symbolism and tradition as the wedding dress. From the earliest wedding ceremony, the bride has been dressed in the finest of clothes. Part I, The Wedding Dress in History, traces the development of wedding dresses from the gossamer white linen shifts worn by maidens in ancient Egypt to the delightful and varied creations favored by today's brides. Historical descriptions, vivid paintings, and fabulous photographs take the reader on a journey through wedding gown history, revealing the centuries of meaning that lie behind this special dress, and significance of such accoutrements as the veil, the train, and the bouquet.
Today' bride enjoys as vast array of choices when selecting her own wedding dress. It might be a white silk ball gown with a cathedral train and floor-length veil; or a short, golden lace sheath with a lamé stole and no veil at all; or perhaps a white leather jacket paired with a tulle miniskirt. The stunning photographs in Part II. The Modern Wedding Dress, show that the dress may be short, long, elaborate, simple, formal, informal, white, colorful, or any combination thereof -- as long as it fulfills the bride's own fantasies. Here are explanations of the elements that make each dress wonderful: the details of shape -- from princess-line to sheath; of style -- from neckline to hemline; and of fabrics -- from silk to linen. Here, too, is a superb showcase of the top designers' most enchanting creations that will both delight and inspire the modern bride plus a look behind the workroom door at the creation of the dress from design through painstaking construction to delivery
Part III, Your Wedding Dress, presents the basic considerations that go into choosing a dress: from the details of the wedding itself, such as season and locale, to the bride's own needs, from cut to comfort. Also included are a discussion of the various shades of white, tips on tactics to flatter every figure type, and advice on veils, undergarments, shoes, handbags, jewelry, and bouquets. Since for many brides the wedding dress is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to indulge in the luxury of custom-made clothing, here is a guide to the salon experience. The author offers helpful advice for dressing on the wedding day, and suggestions on how to preserve the gown after it's all over.

Brides from the past.......2005-11-24
This book is definitely very useful for brides who want their dress inspired by the past. There's also a very curious part about star signs for brides-to-be who want to have fun. However, if your mantra is "modern", I don't think this book is appropriate.
worth it just for the pictures.......2002-07-11
there is text in this book but i barely made it past the pictures - historical dresses, cool modern ones, shoes, lace & more. a great book for deciding what you'd like your dress to look like. and daydreaming.
pretty, but vapid.......1999-12-29
Lots of great modern pictures, but not a very thorough look at the history of wedding dresses. I was hoping for a more in-depth treatment.
Beautiful history of the wedding gown.......1998-05-28
I thought that this was a beautiful book about one of the most special aricles of clothing a woman will ever wear in her lifetime. It showed the reader the great history of the wedding gown over a period of time, and how some of these same styles are popular by today's standards! If you are interested in a book that gives you nice pictures and a history of a timeless creation such as the wedding gown, this is the book for you. I have been married myself for sometime now, and I enjoy looking at this book even after my own wedding!
A visual treat but lacking in concrete information........1998-05-22
This book looks fantastic-beautiful cover, lush full colour pics etc. but it really lets you down on the practicalities. For example, there is very little advice given on choosing the correct gown for different figure types. The photographs were also really dated and the sketches used by various bridal designers were pretty but totally unwearable.Having said that it's a great book for a student of fashion or someone interested in the historical basis of wedding gowns.

Now You Can Have The Wedding Of Your Dreams Without Spending A Small Fortune !
Make Your Own Wonderful Wedding Favors And Gifts For Pleasure, Profit, Joy and Happy Memories!
Every blushing bride wants to have a memorable and romantic wedding that will be remembered for years with pleasant memories by all that attend.
The purpose of "Wonderful wedding favors and wedding gifts" is to help accomplish this, even if you or the bride to be is on a tight budget. It is not expensive catering and thousand dollar dresses that create lasting memories.
It's the beauty of the day, the sunshine smile of the bride and the feeling of being special for that one moment in time, no matter if you are a guest or the bride herself. This is what makes weddings special, romantic and memorable.
Many brides spend a lot of money on expensive plastic wedding favors and gifts for the guests that have no sentimental value. Many guests also spend lots of money on new gifts for the bride and groom that really do not hold special meaning at all.
It's rare that you see a true heirloom shared at weddings these days.
In a world full of manufactured material, it's so much easier to just purchase something quick just so you can say you care, instead of actually making an attempt to show how much you actually do care.
"Wonderful Wedding Favors And Wedding Gifts" not only provides crochet patterns for true heirloom gifts, but also provides sweet memories as you crochet lovely sachets for your bridesmaids, or wonderful Victorian gloves for the lucky bride to be.
No matter what your budget, you will find that none of the projects provided in the eBook require more than $20.00 investment, most only require $5.00 for thread, stuffing and a crochet hook.
So even if your budget is tight, you'll find your gift one of the most appreciated at the wedding, because it reflects much more value than money alone and also appears to be quite an expensive gift.
