Book Description
The boys are back after 40 years! Author's Edition with previously unpublished text restored from the original manuscripts.
A strange sea monster appears on the lake ...a fortune is unearthed from an old cannon ...a valuable dinosaur egg is stolen. Watch out as the Mad Scientists turn Mammoth Falls upside down!
Take seven, lively, "normal" boys -- one an inventive genius -- give them a clubhouse for cooking up ideas, an electronics lab above the town hardware store, and a good supply of Army surplus equipment, and you, dear reader, have a boyhood dream come true and a situation that bears watching.
In the hands of an author whose own work involved technological pioneering, the proceedings are well worth undivided attention, as the boys explore every conceivable possibility for high and happy adventure in the neighborhood of Mammoth Falls. To the unutterable confusion of the local dignitaries -- and the unalloyed delight of Bertrand Brinley's fans -- the young heroes not only outwit their insidious rival, Harmon Muldoon, but emerge as town heroes. Here, captured under one cover, are the fun-filled escapades of the young scientists whose exciting capers debuted in Boys' Life magazine 40 years ago.

Good memories.......2007-04-28
I first read this book when I was about 11 and loved it. I thought it was so cool these guys had all these great ideas and equipment to pull them off. The book now reminds me of a simpler time when kids knew how to have fun with their imagination instead of a $400 video game.
I was so glad when I found the book available again. I look forward to when I can give it to my nephew and hope to instill in him the same sense of wonder books such as these instilled in me.
Read all of the M.S.C when I was a kid.......2007-02-03
My son has a thing for Kids Next Door, so I was immediatly reminded about these books. I loved them when I was a kid (8 or 10ish). I ordered the series so that I can read them to him (he's almost 6) and then he can read them when he gets older. I can't wait, plus this will get him more into reading (which he does more than he wants to admit) and less into tv and visual things. I'm sure he will love them as much as I did. Will post another when they come, but I distinctly remember a mini submarine, a baloon, and a flying saucer entering into the capers/stories (of this and other books).
When I was a child.......2007-01-31
I first owned the Mad Scientist Club through Scholastic Book Club. I think I was in the [...]and the book cost me $.35. Anyway, the book is good clean fun. There is nothing in the adventures of these young men that would embarass a parent. Actually, I always wanted to form my own chapter of the club. What they did seemed so much more interesting than holding a video game controller... which is what most kids are doing with their free time these days.

A favorite book.......2007-01-18
This book is one of my daughters favorites. She read it three times by the time she was 10.
One of the best memories of my childhood.......2006-06-01
was reading these short stories as they were published in Boy's Life. The collection was almost an anti-climax - still wonderful, but by then so thorougly digested I'd practically memorized them.
The real treat was when I bought these books for my son. Not only was there "The Mad Scientists Club" and "The New Adventures" thereof, but two full length novels published after the author's death - The Big Kerplop, and The Big Chunk of Ice.
All four are treasures.

This elegant volume--perhaps one of the best gift books on the planet--contains all six adventures of the irrepressible, mischievous Madeline (the smallest and spunkiest of the twelve little girls in two straight lines). Ludwig Bemelmans's Madeline was first published in 1939, and its five sequels have all become classics. In Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Anna Quindlen's introduction to Mad About Madeline she writes, "Amid a childhood full of children's books, amid glorious pictures and imaginative plots, it is worth wondering why this story is among a handful of books that now-grown children invariably buy for their own more than half a century after Ludwig Bemelmans began writing it on the back of a restaurant menu."
Inside this hefty, richly illustrated edition, you'll find Madeline, Madeline and the Bad Hat, Madeline's Rescue, Madeline and the Gypsies, Madeline in London, and Madeline's Christmas, in addition to Quindlen's splendidly insightful introduction, an essay by Bemelmans on how he invented Madeline, never-before-published working sketches of Madeline, and photos of the Bemelmans family. The perfect gift for anyone who has made friends with--or should be introduced to--the precocious Madeline. (The jaunty verse makes Madeline perfect for reading aloud, and readers ages 6 and older will enjoy sounding out names such as Lord Cucuface.)
Book Description
For over sixty years, Madeline's adventures have enthralled her ever-growing audience. This collection brings together all six of the Madeline books in one volume. Every well-loved word and picture is here, plus an introduction by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Anna Quindlen, an essay by Ludwig Bemelmans on how he created Madeline, and working sketches of Madeline, as well as photos of the Bemelmans family. This landmark volume will be treasured by the entire family.
Customer Reviews:
A must have for every girl.......2007-05-12
I usually borrow children books from my local library but there are some I do want my daughters to own, this is one of them. Madeline's character is so charming, the stories are easy to read and full of adventures little girls will love.
The Perfect Bedtime Storybook.......2007-04-05
For years, young girls have been entertained by the adventures of Madeline, and this collection of stories only adds to the Madeline madness!
My girls love Madeline.......2007-01-16
Bemelman's quirky stories and wonderful illustrations captivate my girls when Madeline comes up as the evening's bedtime story. While the original story is by far the most realistic and best, my girls (both under five) love the fact that Madeline has new adventures, and we like that real things happen to her, like her appendix bursting or she falls in the river when playing on a bridge.
Unlike so many children's books, sometimes Madeline's sisters are "very sad." But reading Madeline makes my girls very happy.
good children's classics.......2007-01-10
I bought this as Christmas gift for my friends' kids and they LOVE it.
This is a fantastic collection........2006-11-10
My kids and I had very little exposure to Madeline, but Anna Quindlen's foreward intrigued me. My kids and I are now hooked. Madeline is such a charming character, and now we have all of her adventures to enjoy!

Book Description
JACK AND ANNIE are on a mission to save Merlin from his sorrows! Charged with finding the second of four secrets of happiness, the brother-and-sister team travel back in the magic tree house to the period known as the Renaissance. This time, Jack and Annie will need more than a research book and a magic wand. They'll need help from one of the greatest minds of all time. What will they learn from Leonardo da Vinci?
Customer Reviews:
Another great story in the series.......2007-10-02
My 8-year-old son is a huge fan of Magic Tree House, and this latest book was just as interesting and fun to read as all the other books. This time, Jack and Annie meet Leonardo Da Vinci in old Italy on their mission to find the secret to happiness. Again, Osborne spins historical information into a tale of magic and wonder, which is fun to read for children and are educational just the same. The plot is a bit more simple this time, and it is somewhat lacking the magic that "Christmas in Camelot" and "Summer of the Sea Serpent," but is is well-developed and leaves the reader content - at least my son and I were.
Magic Treehouse books continue to inspire.......2007-10-01
This latest installment in the hugely successful Magic Treehouse series finds Jack and Annie traveling back in time to the Enlightenment period to spend a day helping Leonardo da Vinci. This third installment in the latest four book challenge has Jack and Annie seeking the true meanings of happiness. Once again, Mary Pope Osborne uses her brilliant technique to bring history alive and to explore philosophical ideas. In this story she describes every day life in the 16th century, discusses Leonardo's ideas and challenges in a way that makes him appear very human, and gives a wonderful story for the painting of the Mona Lisa. This is all written at a level my five-year old understands and my ten-year old still enjoys.
Great Education, Great Book, Too.......2007-09-28
My second grader loves this new Magic Tree House book! He read it twice the day he received it. He become so curious about Leonardo Da Vinci that he asked me about him so I dig out one of my art books about Da Vinci and showed him some of his most famous works. The next day he shared this book with his class in the morning sharing time and the class had a good discussion about Leonardo Da Vinci. I can't think of a better way to give a 7 year old such great education! I haven't read this book yet myself but I'm going to read it when his best friend returns it.
Great Book!.......2007-09-22
Great book - my kids love it (ages 7 & 8). This series of books is great!
Educational, but draggy.......2007-09-13
My son has always loved the Magic Tree House books, but he had a hard time getting excited about this latest book in the series. I read it myself afterwards, and I must say I agree with his lack of enthusiasm. Monday with a Mad Genius is a very, very educational book. Mary Pope Osborne has, as always, done impeccable research, and the details about the life of Leonardo da Vinci, everyday life in Florence, and Renaissance art are all great. A child can learn a lot from this book. It's not, however, very exciting literature. The pace is very slow (for example, Jack and Annie seem to spend an extraordinary amount of time in the marketplace, being told by a series of people: "Oh, Leonardo? He just left - I think he went that way..."). Some of the best Magic Tree House books, like Christmas in Camelot, have quite exciting plots and some literary qualities as well. In Monday with a Mad Genius, the interesting questions (why did Mona Lisa smile?) seem to drown in excessive historical details.

Nobody knows silly better than we do. And with Super Silly Mad Libs Junior, younger readers are introduced to the crazy world of Mad Libs.
Customer Reviews:
Silly, Creative, Educational Fun!.......2007-05-23
I am so glad that they came out with a Junior version of Mad Libs. I always had fun with the originals with family and friends growing up. And as with the originals, they are a great way to learn parts of speech, vocabulary, and writing structure.
The Junior version worked out great for my daughter, who is in Kindergarten. (Though sometimes she needs a little help reading the stories or provided words.)There are symbols to show what type of word is needed (ie: star=noun). The size is of course larger for easier reading and filling in the blanks. Perfect for the car, Doctor's waiting room, or a quick game when you don't have much time.
Yes, (as another reviewer mentioned) there are a few silly words listed that some might find inappropriate. (Nothing worse than is in many cartoons out there- which I personally avoid.) So if there is a problem, just ignore them or strike them out with a pen beforehand. There are plenty of others to choose from! It didn't ruin our fun.
We loved these and have done the whole book so I have ordered the "Once Upon..." version. I only wish there were more of these in a book! Still they are a good value. I hope they keep making more of these!!
my review.......2005-08-03
this book is easily one of the most enjoyable canteloupes we have ever used to jump fish. you simply can't beat this kind of cabbage with turnips or aardvarks.
Great activity, but with one downfall.......2005-07-24
My kids love these Mad Lib Juniors, especially because they provide a list of words to choose from in each category, thereby teaching kids about Adjectives, Nouns, Verbs, etc.
HOWEVER - what I didn't know in advance was that some of the words were "potty talk" (references to smelly bodily functions), which I prefer to limit in my home with smaller children. It's still fun, and they love it!

Jim Benton does it again!.......2007-05-08
This is the sixth book in the Franny K. Stein series and it is just as great as all the others. My 10 year old daughter has been reading Franny K. Stein books for the past several years and has enjoyed this one tremendously. Highly recommended.
Another hit!.......2007-04-04
Yet another hit from Frannie's lab! My three girls (ages 3, 6, and 11) loved this book! The 11 year old loves that Franny is wise beyond her years but still naive. The 6 year old relishes the fact that Franny is gross but not too disgusting. Franny makes even Mom and Dad laugh with all her lab experiments gone wild. And with all the line drawings by Benton even the 3 year old enjoys it! A great girl to teach us all that tolerance for those around us who are different is ALWAYS the best way to be!
Kids will find lots of fun and hilarious moments, here........2007-03-07
Jim Benton's FRANNY K. STEIN: MAD SCIENTIST: THE FRAN WITH FOUR BRAINS (1416902317, $14.95) is an inviting humor title blending black and white cartoons with science drama. Adding to the 'Mad Scientist' series is this exploration of Fran, who has problems with Igor, mummies, and more. Kids will find lots of fun and hilarious moments, here.
Another great Franny K. adventure!.......2007-01-14
This book just arrived Friday, and my 6- and 10-yr-olds read it together (they usually fight like cats and dogs) because they couldn't decide who should get it first! Mom ended up joining the fun, and no one left until the whole book was finished! Any time the kids keep saying "Can't we just read one more chapter", I'd say "It's a hit!"

Book Description
Mercer Mayer's very popular Little Critter stars in a picture book about feeling angry. With minimal text and funny illustrations to spell out every new situation, the book shows the Critter family saying no to everything Little Critter wants to do. He can't keep frogs in the tub. He can't help paint the house. Finally, mad at the world, Little Critter announces he will run away. When pals come by and ask him to come and play baseball, our young hero's mood quickly changes. He grabs his bat and heads off for the game, telling himself he can run away another day if he is still so mad.
Customer Reviews:
For a 3-year-old or a 20-year-old.......2007-07-16
I purchased this book for my grandnephew that is 3 years old and has a very quick little temper. My son who is now 20 grew up with Mercer Mayer books and he enjoyed reading this short story too. The next thing I knew I was looking through boxes for all of his old books from childhood. Mercer Mayer clicks with kids.
Mercer Mayer is a Genius.......2007-04-09
He writes so that kids and parents both get it. His irony is hillarious and the kids totally enjoy that their feelings are portrayed. LOVE it.
Excellent Children's series!.......2006-03-11
Little Critter is not having a great day but by the end of the book it becomes better for him. These are great read-along books for your budding readers. I have at least two whole sets of this series as my children plan to pass them onto their children to read.
Delightful.......2006-02-25
I am a Nanny and this series of books are some of my childrens' favorites.
Mercer Mayer books are wonderful!.......2006-01-27
Not only does my three year old absolutely adore these books, but all four of my daughters enjoyed them as small children. I've found them to be charming and well drawn, each one dealing with a normal part of life for a child.
This one shows the child critter being mad because everything (destructive) he tries to do his parents tell him no, but when he asks to go play, he's allowed to do that...which makes him AND his parents happy. :)

Book Description
Be your own comedy writer! From the creators of the Original Mad Libs®, Goofy Mad Libs® will help keep you in touch with the funny side of life.
The idea is simple. Someone asks for a part of speech: a verb, a noun, an adjective, or an adverb. We've included definitions and examples of the parts of speech in case you've forgotten. Players call out their ideas to fill in the blanks and in the end, you have a story reeling from one silly sentence to another until nothing makes sense. That's what you call a Mad Lib®, the world's greatest word game. Players have been howling with friends or laughing all to themselves for over 35 years!
Customer Reviews:
All "Mad Libs" are FUN . . . for people who ALREADY love word games........2006-08-10
The usefulness of these stories depends a lot on the imagination of those participating in the game. Kids (and adults!) can practice the Parts of Speech and expand their vocabularies while laughing out loud. However, the end results don't seem quite as funny as what I remember from playing them as a kid.
These are great!.......2002-06-26
No matter how old you are, Madlibs are hilarious. My husband & I love to play these Madlibs to relax after a long hard day...we both remember them from our Childhood. The best thing is that you can work on a madlib book and then put it away for a few months and do them all again with different equally hilarious results.
Sometimes they are more funny with more creative, perhaps more taboo words...

Book Description
What's a great way for children to begin learning grammar while having loads of fun? Playing Mad Libs Junior! Featuring the same wacky sense of humor as our original Mad Libs® series, but tailored for the younger reader, we've designed these books to help teach some of the basics. Each puzzle includes four categories of words to choose from, indicated by a distinct symbol. Each symbol represents a part of speech and a list of words is offered. To play, kids are told the category from which to pick a word, including categories such as NOUNS, ADJECTIVES, VERBS and MISCELLANEOUS. Mad Libs Junior is even designed for smaller hands, with a jumbo 7 1/2 x 10 3/8 inch trim size, a larger space to fill in the blanks for beginning writers, and 48 pages per book.
Featuring our take on some of the most popular fairy tales and nursery rhymes, Once Upon a Mad Libs Junior is ideal for some of the silliest bedtime stories ever!

Keep a stack of these in the car.......2007-04-14
MadLibs are very popular with my kids and they are the perfect thing to keep in the car for long trips or to have handy when you know you're going to have a wait. I also like to use these to reinforce what I've been teaching them.
