The Frantastic voyage & the fran with 4 brains.......2007-09-22
My boys are 4 and 6 and they loves these. My 6 yr old can read them with no problem but they like for me to read to them both and we got The Fran with Four Brains just yesterday and they had me read the entire book to them last night. They are excited about the fact that i have ordered them this boxed set, and when it comes I am sure we will be reading them till we have read them all. I hope the author starts more in this series of books so they can continue to have a Great series that they enjoy that pulls u right in.
Franny K Steins Crate of Danger.......2007-01-09
My four year old son loves all the Franny books! Franny shows kids that it is okay to be different, that science can be lots of fun and that most "scary" things really aren't. My only complaint is that my son is constantly doing mad scientist experiments. We have test tubes filled with interesting items all over the house, just waiting to see what happens. Not high literature, but a lot of fun.
Clever and funny.......2006-09-08
My 6-year old son loves the franny stories. I thought he might have trouble relating to the girl, but he is very much into science and so he had no problems being pulled in to Franny's adventures. She dabbles in science, while still learning what it means to be a kid.
Franny K. Stein's Crate of Danger.......2006-02-02
My 9 year old son LOVES these books. He is a struggling reader, and would rather learn science than language arts. Because these books have to do with science experiments, he eats them up. He's on the 4th book now and I did not tell him to read last night, and caught him reading it on his own and almost done with it. It's exciting for me as a parent and reader to see him find a series that can hold his interest while he becomes a better reader.
Armani, 7 years-old: I can't stop reading these Franny K. Stein books.......2005-10-01
I love these books because they are great chapter books. They are funny because Franny is the coolest mad scientist, to be a girl.
I will read Franny K. Stein for the rest of my life.
Armani
Book Description
Thanks to the iron-on T-shirt boom of the 1970s and a raft of younger artists working today, hot rod monsters have persevered. Now award-winning car-designer Thom Taylor and legendary kustom kulture figure Ed Newton reveal the tricks and techniques used by masters past and present to render these whack rods and their warts-and-all drivers. Beginning with a brief history of the form, the authors examine figures like Stanley Mouse, Ed Roth, and Newton himself, then reveal how those pioneers influenced modern artists like Keith Weesner, John Bell, and Dave Deal, to name a few. In addition to offering chapters covering topics like equipment, perspective, light sources, and other technical considerations, Taylor expands on the cartooning, proportion, and color chapters from his previous works, applying them to the subject at hand. Also included are dozens of examples of the form from many of the above-mentioned artists and more

I bought this book for my husband, after several refferals from other hot rod friends. This book is better than described.

Lunch Walks Among Us.......2007-04-27
Franny K. Stein is a mad scientist who prefers all things spooky and creepy, but when she has trouble making friends at her new school so she takes notes on what the other kids do differently so she could do them and make friends. Untile one day she threw her lunch in the trash can and another boy threw chemicals in the trash can to and the food and chemicals combined and formed a monster nobody knew what to do. Except for Franny and so franny did an experiment and made a nice monster out of bolonga. The nice monster threw the bad monster all the way up in space and eveybody were happy and they all started liking Franny and they all made friends with her even though she was different. The nice monster became a janitor for Franny's school.
Colorado mom.......2007-04-25
My 7 year old daughter checked this book out. We, (my daughter, 8 yr old son, and me) think this book is great. It's funny and encourages children to be who they really are and not to try to be something phony just to fit in. There are parts that make you just laugh out loud. That's rare for me when I read children's books, and I've read a lot of them.
I didn't purchase this book but I just wanted to give it my support and endorsement. We've requested the other 4 books from our local library. I hope Benton keeps writing about more intelligent, funny, original and strong young girls. Benton should get this made into a Saturday morning cartoon & get rid of the boring Bratz-esque junk that our girls have to look at.
Diann.......2007-02-24
I ordered a copy of each books from this series for our school library. Now there is never one on the shelf, when one is returned it is quickly checked out again by another student. I have now ordered more copies. My daughters love the books. This one is sweet, it show's how Franny struggles to fit in and make friends. In the end she is accepted and loved for who she is.
Funny and silly and a great message too!.......2006-11-23
My daughter refused to read chapter books, even though she was in third grade already! That is, until we found Franny K Stein. After reading all the Franny so far released, she is finally reading other chapter books. And some days she doesn't want to put them down!
The books are so funny, and full of puns, which is something kids this age really like. And the "monsters" are very silly. And I'm really happy about all the positive messages it sends. The books show girls can be good at science and girls can like gross stuff like slime or boogers, and about how you should always be yourself and that you can be friends with someone even though you have differences.
Thank you Jim Benton for helping my little girl take the next step to enjoying reading!
Laugh out loud!.......2006-11-13
My seven year old was not a big fan of reading until we found the Franny K. Stein series. He has read all of them and laughs out loud. I highly recommend them and so does my son!

Book Description
Making monsters is Dr. Nutt's specialty. Her best creations are the Yummy Mummy, the Boogie-Woogie Man, and her masterpiece, Dracula-la-la! It's music to Dr. Nutt's ears, but the villagers don't like the idea of singing vampires roaming around their town.
Customer Reviews:
A funny look at monsters.......2004-03-09
My daughter enjoyed reading this book. The professor creates many silly monster creatures. To the delight and dismay of the local villiagers. Some of the words are difficult for younger readers, but the story is so fun children will enjoy hearing the story even if they can't read it.
Book Description
In this book the author provides a systematic history of the horror movie genre, discussing individual movies in detail, while also drawing out the more general patterns in the development of the genre. It is based on an analysis of almost 1000 films.

Customer Reviews:
Superb Coker cartoons, but..........2003-09-05
If you've seen Paul Coker Jr.'s "Horrifying Clishes" in Mad magazine, you know how great they are. Paul Coker is one of the greatest cartoonists who ever lived, and the concept behind this series really gives him a chance to show off his unique talent.
BUT...
Somebody thought they'd get fancy and add some color to the drawings, and they MESSED THEM UP! The color is done on a computer, and it adds very dark areas that throw the beautiful compositions off badly. Coker himself was obviously not involved in this; it was probably done by some flunky fresh out of a 2nd rate art school working for minimum wage. It ruins the drawings in many bitterely disappointing instances. Coker himself has been known to add watercolor or ink wash to some of his work, and he does so with the delicacy and unerring judgement of a master. Why didn't they consult him, instead of printing blocks of opaque dark green over his exquisite line work? The color is mechanical and flat, with no sensitivity to form; it gradates from dark to light mathematically, just like a lifeless computer program. It adds nothing and in some cases obscures much. Shameful.
This is still the best collection of Coker's art for Mad, though. Too bad.
