Book Description

Real people, real transformations!

"Absolutely amazing! It completely shifts your paradigm for life. One of the most wonderful things about it is that the results are immediate. My whole perception and relationship to money has undergone a major, substantial change."
—Chris Attwood, writer and teacher, California

"I've spent most of my life trying to figure out what's true and what's real. I have to say I now have a clear glimpse into what it really is."
—Tom Hill, Colorado

"Before Busting Loose from The Money Game, I was very unhappy and frustrated in my life. I was driven to find more ways to make money. I changed jobs, cities, countries, went back to school, read books. Financially, the stress was causing anxiety attacks and migraines so severe I stayed in bed. The joy I feel now is priceless. Money is there when I need it, in the amount that's needed, no matter what occurs (car repairs, unplanned trips, etc.). It's absolutely amazing!"
—Suresh Thakoor, Texas

"As a retired professor on a fixed and limited income, I always lived from a tight budget and felt compressed by it-especially at the end of the year. I don't use a budget anymore and have opened up new streams of income that were always closed to me in the past."
—Howard Rovics, Connecticut

"It opened a whole new dimension for me and shifted my perspective on life completely. I especially love how practical it is. The application is so simple, so effective . . . and fun!"
—Doris Kahle, Hagen, Germany

"I'd had a lot of success in the corporate arena, made a ridiculous amount of money and lost a ridiculous amount of money. But I was caught in a cycle of making it, losing it. I needed to break that cycle-for myself and my family-and this gave me the keys to do that. Busting Loose from The Money Game opened a window I had no clue even existed. This is very cutting-edge, a revolutionary approach to unwrapping yourself from limitations. If you're not satisfied with where you are financially and you're concerned about your future, get this book!"
—Ben Coleman, Texas

1 out of 5 stars This book has NOTHING to do with money. Don't waste your time or money.......2007-09-30

This book has nothing to do with money. It is a book full of vain philosophies, none of which are backed with any proof whatsoever. If you are looking for good books on managing money, getting out of debt, or building wealth I would recommend books such as: The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey; Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kyosaki; Multiple Streams of Income by Robert Allen; and Money, What Financial "Experts" Will Never Tell You by Alan Williams, Peter Jeppson, and Sanford Botkins. Also check out the website and resources found at [...].

2 out of 5 stars Is Comfort Important To You?.......2007-09-28

Like others have said, the idea is the world, including the human experience is holographic. Maybe it's true, maybe it's not. I'd save a lot then expect to lose it over the course of a year or more it would take you to cross the mental point where you 'bust loose' and really convince yourself that life and money aren't real. At the very least, do not owe anyone money. I just could not vibe with this book for long. I'd rather save, invest and get stuff I want.

Try the library. I never read it now.

5 out of 5 stars An Amazing Book.......2007-09-20

This is an amazing book that really helps the reader to eliminate the sources of dissatisfaction in his/her life if one is willing to commit to The Process. After just a few short days of using The Process I have had some incredible personal breakthroughs and I eagerly look forward to what else I create within my life experience.

My inspiration to buy this book came largely from the few really negative reviews written on this site. Thank you to all those who shared their fears in the form of attacks against the book and its author. I have been clearly shown again that there is tremendous value in that which stirs up so much emotion as people keep their death grip on obsolete views of the nature of life. The world never was flat just because people believed that to be true, acted as if it were true, and invested their lives in protecting those beliefs.

In the pages of this book you will not find strategies on how to earn more money or to protect what you already think that you have, however you will find a strategy to recover all of the energy and power that you have given to your life situations. As you recover this power you will have the capacity to act more boldly to pursue the unique authentic life that you came here to live.

If you have any inclination to buy the book, just go for it. Then give yourself the gifts of reading it with an open mind and applying its wisdom to your life.

Whether you liked the book or not - HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!!

1 out of 5 stars Author FAILS to prove his thesis, to put his money where his mouth is. .......2007-08-19

The author proposes that money is an illusion (agreed)and that you can create all the money you want by fully transcending the illusion. He gives a primitive method to eliminate negative beliefs and emotional charges about money --(Psycanics offers a more precise, faster, less painful and more powerful technique.) The book is well written and interesting, even plausible. The reason I fail the book with 1 star is that, at the end, the author states that it is possible to have an infinite abundance of money (one way is writing "magic" checks that are always good). However, the author apparently has never done this. He says he still has multiple streams of normal income from books and businesses and speaking engagements. Until the author proves his thesis by eliminating all human income sources and actually lives wealthy by the means he proposes, this book is just a FANTASY.

3 out of 5 stars Not about the money.......2007-08-11

Overall good information relating to life...but a bit far fetched to grasp. Nothing is real except your consciousness. Not a money strategy really, more of a mindset of just not caring cause nothing is real.

4 out of 5 stars For those who work in the prison system.......2007-09-21

It is an entry level book that informs people how to work in the prison system with the inmates. The information offered in the book is kind of stale and old; however, if one has never worked in the prison before, this book might be very useful.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent book !!.......2007-06-27

I work in a minimum security prison and found many of the suggestions helpful. This should be read by anyone prior to being hired into that setting!

5 out of 5 stars Good for everyday encounters with people.......2007-02-27

I have had this book for 20 years and keep it by my bedside as a quick reference when I need to assess the strangers that I encounter in my everyday life. You don't need to have a job where you work with criminals to need this book. Every citizen needs this book to know the con-games that are used by crooks. Just because they haven't been convicted yet doesn't mean that they aren't criminals now. I have loaned this book to many friends. They all eventually bought their own copy.

5 out of 5 stars A Real Eye Opener!.......2007-01-10

I've been a Correctional Officer for over 2 years now. And on my own I've picked out bits and peices of games that were attempted on me. But with the help of this book I was able to see the big picture much clearer. One just never knows how intricate and detailed the games criminals play until they learn how to spot the signs. This book is a must for new officers as well as seasoned vets of the profession. My father has been with the department for over 17 years and my mother almost 7 years. Both of them found this book very helpful. I have recomended it to several of my coworkers and they have all found it very useful. This book may be a little old, but as the author says, "The Games never change, only the players".

5 out of 5 stars Games Criminals Play: How You Can Profit by Knowing Them.......2006-12-05

This is an excellent book. It was recommended at the Police Training Institute I attended. After reading it, I loaned it to my Sergeant. My Sergeant recommended that the entire squad, both long-time and new officers, read it. The book is now being passed around among the correctional facility staff. Officers need to know how easily they can be manipulated into placing their careers and their very lives at risk.

Book Description

For baseball fans young, old, and in between, the ultimate guide to the new statistical thinking that's revolutionizing the game.

The revolution in baseball statistics that began in the 1970s is a controversial subject that professionals and fans alike argue over without end. Despite this fundamental change in the way we watch and understand the sport, until now no one had written the book that reveals, across every area of strategy and management, how the best practitioners of statistical analysis in baseball think about numbers and the game.

Baseball Between the Numbers is that book. In separate chapters covering every aspect of the game, the experts at the Baseball Prospectus examine the subtle, hidden aspects of baseball, bring them out into the open, and show us how our favorite teams could win more games. This is a book that every fan, every follower of sports radio, every fantasy player, every coach, and every player at every level can enjoy and learn from.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars loved it.......2007-09-21

I do not subscribe to the Prospectus, so I found this book to be incredibly fascinating. So much so I have passed it around to several friends who have also found it fascinating.
Although one can say a great many things with stats, this book presents some surprisingly sound arguments against many commonly held beliefs. ( and had a couple I don't necessarily agree with but that doesn't make the book wrong) I do admit that a couple of the chapters I didn't care about and therefore glossed over, but still I give the book a excellent review overall.
Thanks to this book, I, and several of my friends, now call Derek Jeter "Pastadiving". You'll just have to read that chapter.

5 out of 5 stars A new way to look at old strategies.......2007-09-05

I've watched baseball since I was a kid 40 years ago. I'd heard of Bill James and kind of knew about saberemetrics, but had never taken the time to learn anything about the new numbers.

This book was a great introduction. The concepts are explained well, and all are tied to real world examples I could understand so it wasn't like reading a statistical treatise.

Some of the concepts confirmed things I already knew, like how silly it is to rely on batting averages. Then there were other topics, like why it's not always a good idea to bunt that I had heard other people espouse, but conflicted with my traditional baseball thinking. After reading the chapter on it, I'm convinced.

Finally, one of the things I most enjoyed about the book was the many ways they compared current stars to former stars and current teams to past teams. That's one of the richest areas of baseball debate, and it's always been totally subjective. And it gets a little stranger when people arguing for the 1930s Yankees are two generations removed from ever seeing them play. But the authors lay out very reasonable statistical measures of how to compare players and teams across time. It certainly won't end debate--this is baseball we're talking about. But it adds a splendid new dimension.

5 out of 5 stars Five Stars for Content.......2007-08-13

Nice book and just what I needed so I now know why I can not make sense out of the baseball business that is so much about what we see on field now. And why baseball is no longer my grandparents or parents game of baseball. We will all lose interest even with a book explaining why and how about what and what is really what about baseball and what most influences the game besides playing a decent game of baseball for the fans and followers of a game that use to be a game enjoyed not a game that has to be enjoyed because of investments. The investment in the price of a ticket and a day at the ballpark is the fan's investment. No longer affordable because everyone deserves to be huge personalities making millions yearly. Just like we all should be multi-millionaires by now. Most people making money off of baseball have never stepped a foot on the field and probably only check in occasionally to check up on their money.

So we all will be just as saddened about what baseball is now and wait for it to end while giving our attention to the next sport that begins before the baseball season ends. What began as not a kid's game but a professional game for adults and what adults could enjoy and be entertained by is now like most of what influences our daily lives IT IS all about the BIG money supporting a game and process that use to give us all great games of baseball and an outing with friends or family.

The fun and enjoyment is almost all gone when the game became untrustworthy and dishonest and only credit card affordable.

A game of baseball is where we could escape to and find some enjoyment and not worry about being scammed. The enjoyment of baseball is almost gone, so very sad and unnecessary. I wanted this book so I could see the facts. Business is business and baseball business is the same.

Now our cherished pastime, national game is nothing more and mostly nothing more that BIG BUSINESS and becoming exclusive and what was once for all Americans, has become like so much else only for those who can afford to be Americans.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT BASEBALL BOOK.......2007-06-27

I bought this book for my husband, a true baseball fanatic, and he loves it.

1 out of 5 stars There is more to the game than a boxscore.......2007-05-27

Some of us like to actually watch and enjoy the game of baseball. Baseball Prospectus and their attempted empire do their best to ruin the enjoyment of watching games and players.

The title of this book is so incredibly arrogant. They want us to ignore pitcher's wins and runs batted in as if they are totally meaningless. I do not turn my nose at a twenty game winner, nor do I ignore that fact that some players considered knocking in baserunners to be an important accomplishment. In fact, Hank Greenberg often chided Charlie Gehringer for clearing the bases and not leaving any for him.

Instead, they offer complex formulae that tell us who we should consider to be the best. If I prefer Mays over Mantle or A-Rod over Jeter, I do not want someone to come along and give me their definitive answer.

What these pencil necked geeks refuse to admit, as anyone who plays with numbers knows, is that the answer is frequently set when you set up the parameters. No matter what BP says, they cannot answer whether good pitching beats good hitting. It cannot and should not be resolved.

The games are only one of the fun features. All answers are encrypted! Each is given on the same page as the game, but is printed upside-down and backward - as in a mirror image. To ensure that they cannot be accidentally read, the answers are further obscured by using italics and a reduced size type. A mirror is needed to reveal the answers - and a special unbreakable plastic one is provided with each book.

Book Description

Baseline Selling - How to Become a Sales Superstar by Using What You Already Know About the Game of Baseball, will dramatically change the way we approach the sales process, replacing the gratuitous complexity advocated by today's sales "experts" with an elegant and very effective simplicity. Studies have shown that the selling techniques of the last two decades have had very little impact on most of the sales population-less than 75 percent of all salespeople, to be exact. Why? Because of the complexity, learning curve and difficulty in applying the concepts in these systems. In response to the urgent need for a flexible, innovative process that will enable people to grasp the essential skills necessary to close a sale in any situation, Baseline Selling reemphasizes the fundamentals of selling in a fresh, memorable way that modern sales professionals can relate to and utilize, and above all, one that complements and enriches advanced sales methodologies. Salespeople who read this book and put its wisdom to work will succeed at acquiring more opportunities as they learn to get appointments more easily. They will excel at creating opportunities with prospects who are "not interested". They'll sell at higher margins by using the "Rule of Ratios". Their closing percentages will improve dramatically as they implement the simple Inoffensive Close". Salespeople selling commodities, struggling to differentiate themselves, will love "Commodity Busters" and every salesperson will be able to shorten their sell cycle by "Taking a Lead". Quite simply, Baseline Selling introduces a way for salespeople to visualize and touch all the "sales bases" without over-complicating the process.

5 out of 5 stars Best Selling Process.......2007-09-27

I have been selling for 20 years, and have been exposed to a very large number of selling systems. The vast majority of selling systems are extremely complex, and difficult to remember. Baseline Selling includes all of the vital direction of the more complicated systems, without being complicated. I have read the book 5 times, and use it for training new salespeople. You lose nothing and gain everything by switching from S.P.I.N., Customer Centric, or Solution Selling to Baseline Selling. Great work Dave!

5 out of 5 stars Straight-forward, universal strategy for tracking the sale!.......2007-09-13

Kurlan has created a universally adaptable flow allowing a fill-in-the-blanks mentality for tracking the sale of ANY product or service REGARDLESS OF the length of THE SALES CYCLE, COMPLEXITY of the decision hierarchy or DEPTH of the decision team! It works whether you use his easy-to-execute tactics or your own!

5 out of 5 stars Must have for anyone looking to succeed in sales!.......2007-08-31

This book does a very good job of simplifying the sales process to one in which if you follow the steps...you will close the sale. A must have, it is always in my briefcase. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to succeed in sales. This book really "covers the bases"!!

5 out of 5 stars A must read for sales people.......2007-06-12

A must for anyone that is in sales! The method Dave teaches is excellent and allows you to learn a different style that will produce great results.

At one time in my company I was the only sales person. As the company has grown so have my sales management responsibilities. I now have a team of sales people that I have never managed before this time. My sales coach - John Moore told me to read Baseline Selling and it has really helped me and my team. My thanks to John Moore and Dave Kurlan.

It challenges the mind far more that you may think and even challenges you to think. An excelent book to improve spatal orrientation, visual ques and logical thinking. Want to improve your cognition and perception? This would have to be the way. Further more, it is great to use to encourage family members to do the same and simply - THINK. A must try to anyone wanting to indulge the brain in lateral thinking.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful fun!.......2005-11-27

I just adored this book and enjoyed every single puzzle in it. As one reviewer points out, this is a book for word puzzle enthusiasts. It might be compared to Will Shortz's "Puzzlemaster Presents" series. What I love about this book is that it can be done without the aid of a dictionary, as it uses a vocabulary from common cultural literacy (e.g. types of candy bars, etc.). I also appreciate the fact that the references aren't dated like some game books are, which can lead to frustration when I am asked to rely on my knowledge of stars from the eighties. Overall, I simply loved this book for the accessible but challenging fun it provided. I hope that Mr. Battaglia will be gracing us with another book of this type soon!

2 out of 5 stars Not as it seems in the review ...........2005-04-27

I am a huge fan of brain teaser books. I have a huge collection of these types of book. BUT after reading this book I say that this book is not as good as it seems in the review. If you think that you will find many Logical and mathematical riddles, this isn't the book for you, but on the other hand if you are into word games this might be a great book for you .

You may have heard somewhere that Neil Gaiman's Sandman series consisted of cool, hip, edgy, smart comic books. And you may have thought, "What the hell does that mean?" Enter A Game of You to confound the issue even more, while at the same time standing as a fine example of such a description. This is not an easy book. The characters are dense and unique, while their observations are, as always with Gaiman, refreshingly familiar. Then there's the plot, which grinds along like a coffee mill, in the process breaking down the two worlds of this series, that of the dream and that of the dreamer. Gaiman pushes these worlds to their very extremes--one is a fantasy world with talking animals, a missing princess, and a mysterious villain called the Cuckoo; the other is an urban microcosm inhabited by a drag queen, a punk lesbian couple, and a New York doll named Barbie. In almost every way this book sits at 180 degrees from the earlier four volumes of the Sandman series--although the less it seems to belong to the series, the more it shows its heart. --Jim Pascoe

4 out of 5 stars Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-03

A messed up girl named Barbie has created a dream world with some serious problems. After blocking this out of a mind for her time, and not dreaming, eventually her dream world gets to her.

This drags in her friends and neighbours, who happen to include an immortal witch, and an agent of her dream foe.

Through a drawing down the moon ritual, the women involved enter the dream world to try and rectify things and find Barbie.

Needless to say, Morpheus is not at all amused, when he finally has to act.

This part really has little to do with the Endless.

5 out of 5 stars Not your grandad's comic book . . ........2007-07-30

This is one my two favorites in the 11-volume "Sandman" series, which has proven Gaiman to be a genius storyteller. I think I like this one especially because it's a full-length continuing story, not a collection of short pieces, and because the characters are terrific (all of them are just ordinary people, including the witch and the princess), and also because Gaiman is a master of poetic dialogue. The story begins in a New York tenement for mostly women, all of them genuine characters, and several of them with connections to characters in earlier volumes. Then Barbie -- Princess Barbara -- is threatened and three of her friends set off on the Moon Road to help her. But Barbie is on a quest of her own, to seek out and defeat the Cuckoo, through a land of her own dreams and imaginings. The Endless are actually rather minor characters this time, but the story doesn't suffer for it.

5 out of 5 stars Exellent.......2007-02-16

Gaiman's earlier work with the characters of the Sandman Universe is very good, and the later books continue the trend. I would recommend this to any fan of the earlier books.
For those unfamiliar with the series, I would suggest starting at Volume 1, "Preludes and Nocturnes", which sets up the premise of the series and introduces many of the characters.

5 out of 5 stars I think I saw Martin Tenbones on the streets yesterday..........2006-11-11

Like a huge boulder that cannot be stopped, Gaiman continues to plow through the journeys of the characters we first were introduced to in the spellbinding introduction entitled "Preludes and Nocturnes" with his fifth collection aptly titled "A Game of You". Like no other artist that I have seen in the past, Gaiman impresses yet again by taking a smaller character from his "Doll House" collection and expanding darkly into her dreams and past. That small character is Barbie - of Ken & Barbie - and the elaboration of her fantasy dream world that includes large hairy beasts, an inspector rat, a bird, as well as a monkey with a circus suit. It sounds nearly dream-like, but what Gaiman does (like no other) is give these characters moments of emotion, human traits, and a drive to see what they believe in succeed. Gaiman takes us from our physical Earth to this dream-created world with comfort and ease, nearly making us more excited to be in this fictional world than in our own. He does this through sympathetic creatures/characters, through the unknown, and through the unhinging power of Dream.

Our story follows Barbie as she attempts to reconnect with her world after her relationship with Ken soured. She has made a few friends in her apartment - one a transvestite named Wanda, a gay couple named Hazel and Foxglove that harbor a surprising secret, then there is Thessaly, an unknown neighbor that seems to know more of what is happening then the rest of our players. None the less, as it seems to be in this series, a character from Barbie's dreams escapes onto the streets of New York. Barbie sees it, realizes it, and retrieves a pendant from it before it is gunned down by the NYPD. She is struck by the idea that her dreams could become a reality. She takes the pendant home with her and deeply falls asleep only to awaken back in her dream world where she is asked to save it from the evil grip of the Cuckoo.

(Now, for the quick - quick - quick version...)

As she makes this journey with her supposed friends, Thessaly sets into motion a way to retrieve her from the lost dream world. She kills a neighbor George (who was oddly giving everyone nightmares in the apartment) and hangs the skin of his face on the wall so that he can talk to the saviors about what is happening to Barbie. Thessaly calls down the Moon God so that she, Hazel, and Fox can travel to Barbie's dream world to save her. Barbie finds the Cuckoo, but it is not who she expects it to be. Due to traveling, Thessaly has disrupted the physical Earth causing peril to Wanda - and just when we think that all is going to be lost, our heroine Dream takes his powerful step forward, wrapping up a phenomenal story that continues to build upon the world we still know little about.

This is another great collection by Gaiman in the expansion of his Dream world. I enjoyed the inception of a character that we already knew about, that we already knew her dreams, and Gaiman just wanted to grow upon it to demonstrate the overall power and depth of Dream. In a prior review, I was upset that we didn't have the opportunity to see much of Dream in a certain collection which ultimately created animosity with this avid reader, but in "A Game of You", I didn't mind. I liked not having Dream arrive until it was absolutely necessary because (unlike the past collection) there was this sense of fantasy that kept your attention throughout the book. The actions of Thessaly, the arrival of Martin Tenbones on the streets of NY, and the entirely creepy, yet bizarre world that Barbie enters that reminded me of a slanted Narnia. Gaiman gave us enough to wrap our minds around that Dream just seemed to be a mediator instead of a main character, and in this collection that worked. The eclectic collection of "real" people kept a strong balance between the realities that Barbie lived in and the dream world she created, it is only when the two combine together that we are provided with a climax like no other. While the other collections followed a similar path, I felt this one was Gaiman's strongest developed story yet. I say this mainly because he takes a similar structure as he did in "Seasons of Mists" - the onslaught of several different characters from several different walks of life - but expands it in a way that only he can develop. Gaiman is at the top of his game with this volume, and I cannot wait to see where he will take us next.

Overall, I was extremely happy with this collection. Yet again, I have no complaints as Gaiman does not seem to be slowing down at all. He brings imagination, creativity, and this layer of unrepentant darkness to the table with each page that I turn. I especially loved the insertion of Rose Walker into the finale of the story as well as seeing Dream's sister make a cameo appearance. This collection blended well, giving us yet another scope of just how big Dream's world is and how easily he has control over it. This is one of those collections that you finish, take a deep breath, and then quickly jump into the next realizing that you do not want to skip a beat at all. I strongly suggest this book to anyone that can get their hands on it. I still say you need to begin with "Preludes and Nocturnes" and follow the course, but one could read this chapter and still become an instant fan of the series. Gaiman proves yet again that this is the pinnacle of his graphic novel career.

4 out of 5 stars I like it a lot, but I'm not sure I get it.......2006-02-21

I did like this book. I really have enjoyed all the Sandman books so far. But as much as it galls me to admit it, I'm not sure I understand quite what the big deal is. I keep hearing about and reading about how fabulous they are. And yeah, they're interesting. It's an interesting world that Gaiman has created and I think the character of the Sandman is intriguing/fascinating. And the Sandman is good-looking in some of the panels. But I don't understand what about these novels/comics draws people in so much. I don't understand why the Midsummer Night's Dream one won that prestigious award which ticked the other authors off so they had to change the rules to specifically exclude a graphic novel from being entered ever again. I don't understand why this series is supposed to grab women readers in a way that other comic/graphic novel offerings haven't. It's a bit like David Bowie music, to me. I like it a lot. But partly, that's because I Want to like it. I think it (the music, or the graphic novel) is really weird and I don't understand why everybody else, with no inner urging, likes it so much. And then I read the preface to this book and the guy talks about all these layers and all this depth that I guess I'm really just not getting at all. Which also bugs me because I like to think that I'm smart. But, granted, I've only read it one time and that kind of stuff does usually become more apparent with multiple readings.

Book Description

Here it comes: a revolution in sudoku solving! This is by far the most complete guide to cracking these addictive puzzles ever produced, with tricks even the experts won’t know. While most books might have a few pages of introduction before proceeding straight to the sudokus, this one covers it all: hidden pairs, naked pairs, X-wings, jellyfish, squirmbag, bivalue and bilocation graphs, turbot fish, grid coloring, and chains. Every single one is here, and much more too, including the exclusive Gordonian logic methods (Gordonian rectangles and Gordonian polygons) that will turn even the hardest puzzles into a breeze. Of course, there are hundreds of sudoku for practice. A very special addition is a reprint of the very first sudoku ever published in 1979, from Dell Pencil Puzzles and Word Games magazine!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent guide for Sudoku.......2007-09-04

I found several techniques that I had not run across before that have helped me solve some of those "black belt" puzzles in the paper with relative ease.

4 out of 5 stars Mensa Guide to Solving Sudoku.......2007-09-01

The book met my expectations. It is an excellent resource for a serious Sukoku puzzle solver. It teaches new problem solving techniques and has puzzles in each chapter that test the new knowledge learned. It also has a lot of puzzles at the end of the book that will give hours of pleasure or frustration, dependin on your point of view.

Definitely good value.

My only negative comment would be the binding is not good and I have loose pages already.

3 out of 5 stars helpful, but hard to understand.......2007-08-15

Maybe because I am not a genius, this book was hard to undertrstand. It has tons of puzzles and a plethora of techniques to guide someone in solving the hard sudoku puzzles. However, I needed to buy another book that dumbed it down a little. The 2nd book I bought was Mastering Sudoku Week by Week: 52 Steps to Becoming a Sudoku Wizard by Paul Stephens. This book is wonderful. It is easy to understand and still teaches the techniques to solving the extreme sudoku puzzles. Also, for Mensa Guide to Solving Sudoku: Hundreds of Puzzles Plus Techniques to Help You Crack Them All (Mensa) there are 6 puzzles to a page and that is rather cramped. The harder puzzles require notes/candidate listing, which is nearly impossible with the size of these puzzles.

5 out of 5 stars Just Exactly What I Wanted.......2007-07-31

Although I had figured out most of the basic techniques listed in the book by myself, I needed a "teacher" in order to learn the more sophisticated solving techniques. This book provided exactly that, without the huge jumps between instructional steps that some books have. I like the fact that this book contains a large number of puzzles to solve which increase in difficulty, but for the hardest puzzles it would have been nice to have the name of a possible solving technique to access first in the answer section, instead of being forced to go directly to the completely solved puzzle.

I also would have preferred a round-wire or spiral binding so that the book would lie flat when open which would make the puzzles easier to work, but removing the sections of early finished puzzles while keeping the instructions intact allowed the book to flat and served my purpose anyway.

Overall, it was a great book...the best I've seen, and I've looked at lots of them.

4 out of 5 stars The Sudoku "Missing Link".......2007-07-29

Most Sudoku books are a collection of puzzles of varying complexity with either no solving strategies other than the basic rules of Sudoku or with a brief, superficial look at the more elementary solving methods.

"Solving SodoKu" by Peter Gordon is the exception. It covers virtually all the techniques required the crack the more difficult "evil", "diabolical", etc. type puzzles. It starts with the fundamental methods and graduates up to the difficult strategies. Each chapter includes a number of puzzles solveable using the method in the chapter to practice the technique. The book also has about 700 more puzzles. So far this is the only book I have found that goes into the level of detail to identify the "key" to the puzzle and then solve it. After working thru the techiques I am now finding and solving many puzzles using the Gordonian Logic family of strategies. That chapter alone was worth the price of the book.

I highly recommend the book if you are serious about solving super-tough puzzles.

Unfortunately, I could not give the book a 5 star rating as the puzzle size (6 per page) is too small and the binding is poor. My book is simply falling apart after what I would consider normal use. I'm also getting tired of copying the puzzle to a larger blank grid to properly work the puzzle.
