Book Description
"Jim Hardy is the most knowledgeable teacher in golf. This extraordinary book will be the most revolutionary instructional book since Ben Hogan's Five Lessons."
--Peter Jacobsen, Seven-time PGA Tour event winner
Voted one of "America's 50 Greatest Teachers" by Golf Digest and ranked in the "Top 100 Teachers" list of Golf magazine, Jim Hardy is a veritable scholar of swing. He's been fixing the swings of professional and amateur golfers since 1977, and in The Plane Truth for Golfers, he makes his groundbreaking concepts available to you for the first time.
Hardy's revolutionary approach is simple: There are two sets of fundamentals to the swing, not one. There is the one-plane swing, for more athletic players, and the two-plane swing, suitable for players of all abilities. Understanding these concepts is crucial to your improvement, and Hardy breaks them down into easy-to-follow steps, complete with dozens of photographs.
Customer Reviews:
Good compliment to Hogans 5 fundamentals.......2007-07-25
I must admit that as I read this book I began to realize that Ben Hogan was only 90 percent correct. As a 50 year old golfer with a life time of bad techniques there was no way I could swing the club like a person in great shape who is flexible and doesn't have so many bad habits. I have always used a 2 plane swing and didn't realize it until now. I'm glad I bought this book together with Ben Hogan's book because it allows me to make the slight adjustments to my grip and stance that will provide me with the final answer to a consistent golf swing.
Complements the DVD.......2007-06-02
Jim Hardy teaches both the one and the two plane swings, but has a bias for the one plane. The eye opener to me was the distinct difference between the two, and the realization that I had, on my own and through lessons, incorporated some features of both into my swing. That is fatal for most swings, and it was for mine. After vacillating between the two for several weeks, I decided to go with the one plane. Hardy makes it clear that either swing is fine, discusses how to decide which is best for you, instructs in both, and gives drills for both. It really helps to have a pro help with either swing, but make sure you have a pro who fully understands and can teach the plane that you want. (You will learn enough from the book to evaluate your pro). The DVD set is a little wordy, but as a visual person, I find it more useful than the book.
Innovative Concept.......2007-05-04
The concept of different swing planes is a breakthrough for instruction on the golf swing. Jim Hardy is a very reputable golf instructor. I found the DVD set to be very professionally done, but to contain too much explanation. While there are a number of examples and demonstrations of the principles that are presented, after more than 30 minutes of viewing, I found it very difficult to remain attentive to Jim's talkative teaching style. My 2-star rating applies more to the method of presentation than to these remarkable concepts. Other more skilled golfers than I have told me that they LOVE the DVD series. I suspect that experienced, skilled students of this very demanding sport will too. As for me, a high handicapper who has been playing regularly for less than a year, I found it to be "too much".
It is the Plane Truth.......2007-04-07
I believe that Jim Hardy is deinately on to something here. I always struggled with golf instruction - some tips worked like a charm while others didn't seem like they belonged at all. Now I know why - I am a one planer and alot of insruction is based around the two plane swing. I now recognize the differences and can concentrate only on things that will "fit" my swing type. My improvement is progressing very nicely now. With all the conflicting instruction out there - you owe it to yourself to read this book or get the DVD's and get working on the right swing for you.
This is a must for any serious golfer........2007-03-22
This book explains the difference in the 2 and 1 plane swing. It lets you know that you cannot throw any golf swing tip into your swing. You need to know what type of swing you are learning so you can identify what you need to work on and how to work on it. The only draw back is the 2 plane swing is an old school 2 lane swing. Meaning that the small muscles(arms and hands) are used. There are 2 plane swings that involve more big muscles in todays time and age.

Golf My Way: The Instructional Classic, Revised and Updated

Ben Hogan's premise in this 1957 classic is driven home in bold letters: "THE AVERAGE GOLFER IS ENTIRELY CAPABLE OF BUILDING A REPEATING SWING AND BREAKING 80." Religions are founded on less, and Hogan's detailed analyses and illustrated demonstrations of grip, stance, posture, and the two basic components of the swing make up a sacred book. Though its very simplicity seems dated, this is the tome of technique that should serve as the foundation of every golf library.
Book Description
The building blocks of winning golf -- from one of the masters of the game.
Ben Hogan, one of the greatest golfers in the history of the sport, believed that any golfer with average coordination can learn to break 80 -- if one applies oneself patiently and intelligently. With the techniques revealed in this classic book, you can learn how to make your game work from tee to green, step-by-step and stroke by stroke.
In each chapter, a different tested fundamental is explained and demonstrated with clear illustrations -- as though Hogan were giving you a personal lesson with the same skill and precision that made him a legend. Whether you're a novice player or an experienced pro, Ben Hogan's Five Lessons is a must-have reference for anyone who knows that fundamentals are where champions begin.

Super Book.......2007-09-26
Super book. If your an experienced golfer or new to the sport this is a must read for establishing the basic fundamentals of the swing.
Still One of the Best.......2007-09-12
Yes, there are a LOT of golf books on the market. And yes, there a many of those with flashy color photos. Nevertheless, Ben Hogan's "Five Lessons: the Modern Fundamentals of Golf" remains one of the best. It's clear, easy to understand, the illustrations (not photos) are helpful and pertinent, and it breaks the swing down into a level that's easy to understand. For anyone, beginner, struggler, or low-handicapper, this book has something that will help you.
Excellent.......2007-09-03
I'm a typical weekend warrior/hacker, probably get out on the course 3-4 times per month. I've been playing for 12 years or so and had never sought formal instruction or lessons, which has led to me being a very inconsistent ball striker and overall player. I was poking around on Amazon last month and saw the great reviews for this book and decided to check it out.
After a month of practicing the fundamentals in this book, I have become a much better ball striker, and probably most importantly, when I now hit a bad shot I know what I did wrong! This never happened before, it was all a big mystery.
This book explains the golf swing from grip/setup to backswing/downswing and tells you exactly how it 'should' be done, with some great illustrations and easy to understand language and theories.
If you are just starting golf, I would highly recommend you pick this up and avoid having to unlearn bad habits years later like I'm trying to do right now.
Oldie but a Goodie.......2007-09-01
As a new golfer I knew there were tricks that my fellow players knew that I didn't. I wanted to research the fundimentals of the stroke, grip and stance. This book was very informative in that regard. Although dated, it is a classic and the drawings are very detailed, explaining the descriptive text even better. Great knowledge was gained with minimum cost. I recommend it.
It takes hard work, but you can come away with a more productive golf swing........2007-08-24
I'm not sure the 5 Lessons in this book are all-inclusive for developing or reworking a golf swing. Many years have passed since its development and publication, but it does offer great tips for anyone tinkering with or completely rebuilding or even learning a golf swing. Yes, it take hard work to implement aspects of these 5 Lessons, but it seems worth it. You do have to check what some other, especially, contemporary teachers/golfers have to offer regarding the golf swing. But these lessons do hold up extraordinarily well when compared to most of today's instructions. Hogan is clear and the graphics are excellent. A definite classic in the golf instruction genre. I am very glad that I pruchased it and have enjoyed trying to absorb and implement the 5 Lessons.

Book Description
The biggest paradox in golf is that the harder you try to "hit" the ball, the worse you do so. In The Keys to the Effortless Golf Swing, Michael McTeigue offers you a simple system of sequential body movements that produces a true swinging motion with every club in the bag. The result is increased distance and greater accuracy for all sizes, shapes, and ages of golfers for a minimum investment in learning time.
The clarity and simplicity of McTeigue's frell-free approach to the golf swing leads the reader to a new experience of power and effortlessness. He truly shows how to "build a swing you can trust and keep for life."
If you love golf but have never played to your potential, here is a book that you will quickly come to treasure.
Customer Reviews:
Simplicity.......2007-06-11
I have probably read 50 different books on golf instruction. This one is not only the best, but a remarkably easy one to follow and implement. It has done wonders for my golf swing in a very short period of time. If you are religious in following its simple steps to learning (in most cases without a golf club in your hands), you will be amazed at your improvement.
The Ultimate Golf Swing Tip Eluded Me - Until Now.......2007-06-09
The very first time I played golf I got a hole-in-one.
It's been downhill ever since.
I was 15 years old and 35 years later I was still struggling to break 80. I'd hit the ball OK some days, but usually I always put too much pressure on my short game to score. I read all the books, took all the lessons and beat balls on the range until my hands bled. Mechanically everything always looked copasetic, but yet I was never consistent in ball striking. Thin, fat, toe, hook, push, etc.
I knew it was important to be in a relaxed and "athletic position" at address. My inherent problem was with excess tension THROUGHOUT the swing. I mistook power for the "coiling of the spring", (bad metaphor!). At the top of my backswing my arms, shoulders and torso were tied in one big connected KNOT. Like most men I thought muscle strength was the key to distance and I would try to over power everything without knowing it. Think Vijay Singh, Fred Couples, Ernie Els. Swing easy, hit hard.
So I took to the range after reading this book with yet another tip to experiment on like I've been doing on and off almost all my life; low and behold, once I relaxed my arms and shoulders throughout the swing and hit the ball in a much more free flowing fashion, I swear to God I felt like the incarnation of Ben Hogan. Solid, straight shots like never before. Feeling the ball compress against the face of the club each time was sublime. Working it right and left at will.
I'm now regularly shooting in the seventies from the pro tees and focusing more on the short game to start beating old man par. I may even start competing in some amateur events next year. The key is ZERO TENSION in all muscles throught the swing. Tension destroys the golf swing. Let the club swing itself. As Sam Snead said, "Feel oily".
The reason a good teaching pro could never help me is because they could not "feel" what I was feeling at the top of my swing. Thanks Michael McT. You saved a once putrid golfers soul. This book is a "diamond in the rough", no pun intended!
Old golfer says:.......2007-04-15
I've been trying to learn to play golf for some years now and found some very good help in various places. Swinging too hard and just trying to hit the ball have been my constant downfall. Tis book is finally helping me to understand and execute a smoother more fluid golf swing. FHurray.
Not only that: this book has helped me understand a number of concepts that I have been constantly encouraged to do and never understood.
I wish that I had found it years ago.

All About Golf.......2007-04-10
Learn why all those hours spent on the green aren't making your game any better. This book will also help you develop the perfect golf swing.
If you love golf and want to play better, do yourself a favor and work with the ideas in this book.......2007-03-10
I am 46 and have been playing golf since I was in my late teens. There is no question in my mind that the better you can play this game the more enjoyable it is. Those players who say it doesn't matter are simply not being honest with themselves. Sure I love being on the course especially with good company, but what is supposed to be a pleasurable hobby can be far from it when you are playing poorly. Lets face it; all of us have been there, and all of us want to improve. Unfortunately golf is not like many things we do in that practice doesn't neccessarily make perfect. If what we are working on (based on information we are given) is even slightly flawed, improvement is not likely to occurr despite our best efforts. Since golf is one area where there's no shortage of instructional material, our success will largely be determined by the effort we put in and information we use. Fortunately the author of this book, Michael McTeigue, has presented in his words "everything you need to know." I could not agree with him more. As a dedicated student of the game who wanted to improve, I went from book to book and theory to theory until I came across this little book. The book gave me a systematic method by which I have enjoyed considerable improvement in only a few months. If you're tired of hours of unproductive practice, I highly recommend you work with the ideas in this book.

Excellent, Highly recommended!!!!.......2005-05-15
This book taught me how to score better.
I really liked the golf routine for the short game
that is explained. The techniques in this book are definitely
helpful. I'm now a much better golfer. I now can hit the ball
much further. The author really taps into the limitations that were holding me back to becoming a great golfer. There are water
hazards on the two par 3s of my home course. I'm no longer
afraid of hitting it in the water.
I have much more confidence before I hit a golf shot because
of what I learned from The Ultimate Golf Instruction Guide.
FABULOUS BOOK, my dream has come true!.......2005-04-13
The reasons why this book has awesome golf instruction:
The short game explained in the book makes so much sense. It is a very simple, yet highly and I mean highly effective. I get up and down more often now then ever. I even hole a few chips every now and then. [...] this book has unconventional golf techniques that are highly useful.
My greens in regulation percentage has improved from average of 27% per round to an average of 55% per round. This took me a period of about six months. This book is not another quick tip book. However, as soon as I started using these techniques, I hit the ball a lot more at my intended targets. It has golf techniques that actually give positive lasting effects. I been through a lot of golf books. Golf books usually don't give me lasting results. However, this one does. The best of what I learned from other golf instruction books is proper etiquette and why people slice or hook the ball.
My driving ability has only gotten better. Before reading this book, my fairways hit was 35%. Now after following his essentials of the zero handicap golfer, I now hit approximately 60% of the fairways. Leonardi's technique makes a lot of sense because he showed me how to get more power.
My driving distance has gone up. Before applying the techniques in this book, I had an average driving distance of around 225 yards. After applying the author's techniques, my drives now average in the 265 yard range. I'm amazed at how much power I was losing because I used to be using poor techniques before applying Leonardi's techniques. Now I don't get those up and down practice sessions at the range as I used to get. My practice sessions at the range are much more consistent. In fact, I continue to get better. For example, in the book, it says "slumps don't have to be a part of golf." I can say that the author knows what he is talking about. I don't shoot bad scores anymore.
The author's unique golf instruction is easy to follow. Yes, the book is unconventional. But it's unconventional in an exceptional way. This book is worth much more then $50 because now golf is a lot more satisfying. I used to only dream of what it would be like to score below 80. My dream is now a reality.
[...]the book looks different and to have an open mind. The different look of the book fits perfectly with the unique and exceptional technique given. Ten Stars. Enough said.
Different technique that works........2005-03-22
If you really apply the techniques in this book to your swing, you will see a big difference on where the ball goes. I liked the eight essentials of a zero handicap golfer or better that were described by the author. It's not just theory, the stuff really works and I found it easy to follow.
I apply his techniques to my golf swing and it makes me hit the ball much more consistently. It seems Leonardi has discovered how to put the pieces of a golf swing together into something that works time after time and round after round. The nutrition portion of this book was highly informative. I think I have more endurance on the golf course now because of it. The price of the book is well-worth it. Look how expensive getting golf lessons are these days. If you like books on financial advice, I recommend The Millionaire Mind by Thomas Stanley, interesting book. For example one interesting point Stanley makes is that many millionaires are golfers and that golfers are correlated with higher incomes.
An unorthodox approach in an unorthodox package.......2005-03-09
If you have an open mind, read this book.
I know the author -- and his claims are 100% true. He taught himself how to play golf and he regularly breaks 70 now. And, yes, many of his techniques and strategies go completely against the present-day conventional wisdom concerning the golf swing.
But think about this. Tens of thousands of golfers read books, buy videos, take lessons and then practice, practice, practice. If all the current teachings of the golf swing were so good, then why do so few of golfers EVER break 70? Or 80, for that matter?
Dr. Leonardi's techniques clearly work for him. There is nothing unusual about his physiology, so his techniques will certainly work for many golfers as well. Will his techniques work for everyone? Of course not. Then again, no other golf book or video can claim anywhere close to a 100% success rate.
Ignore the packaging. No, this book does not look slick. But who cares? It's the info that you're purchasing!

Book Description
A detailed plan for conquering the FEAR that sabotages swings and ruins psyches, from the pioneering psychologist whose techniques have benefited Davis Love III, Justin Leonard, and numerous other world-class golfers.
As Jack Nicklaus once observed, fear is the golfer’s greatest enemy, inspiring Tiger Woods to "refuse" to give in to this debilitating emotion. It can turn professionals into jelly and dominate the games of most amateurs. It alters swing paths, causes “tap-in” putts to go awry, and transforms a golfer from a brilliant shot-maker on the practice range into an incompetent hack on the course.
Most golfers understand this, but do not have the tools to overcome it. That’s where Dr. Gio Valiante comes in. A pioneering sports psychologist, Valiante has studied the sources of an athlete’s fear, investigated the physiological and neurological impact of fear on performance, and, most important of all, developed a groundbreaking program for conquering it. With Valiante's help and by applying Fearless Golf, Justin Leonard went from three consecutive missed cuts to three consecutive top tens, and Chad Campbell recently moved from 98th in the world to 7th. Davis Love III went from zero wins in 2002 to four wins in 2003, and Chris DiMarco made the 2004 Ryder Cup Team.
Emphasizing the need to replace a fixation-on-results with a commitment to mastery of one’s body and one's mind, Valiante’s approach will not only help golfers reach their true potential, it will make playing every round fun again. Through concrete confidence and mastery drills, he presents specific ways readers can break free of fear’s grasp and perform at their best—even under the most extreme pressure.
With detailed quotes and anecdotes given exclusively to Dr. Valiante from the best players in the game—including Jack Nicklaus, Ernie Els, and other tour professionals, Fearless Golf is the ultimate guide to the mental game, the hottest topic in golf today.

Fearless Golf.......2007-07-22
Excellent book on the mental game. Good tips. Book was shipped promptly and was in better condition than stated.
Good Message, Just Way Too Long..........2007-06-14
Being a golfer who can shoot in the 70's on one day, then in the 90's the next, I figured the best thing I could add to my bag was a book or several on the mental aspects of the game. And, this is one of the most useful I've read. The author applies Professor Albert Bandura's credible concept of self-efficacy to a game that is oh so mental (I suggest you read Bandura's 1994 hallmark paper entitled "Self-efficacy" for more insight). Clearly, this book is helping me go lower and play more consistently. My primary criticism of the book is that the author takes way too long to deliver the message. I was compelled to skip pages containing endless examples and redundant messages. I guess Valiante wanted to hit the 200 page standard to justify the price, but he could have written it in 50 pages.
Nonetheless, if you experience rather wild fluctuations in performance, this book will likely ring true for you.
Hang in there. .......2007-04-24
OK, it started badly for me. The first chapter is somewhat repetitive.
I persisted and found to my delight a book that is valuable, well written and insightful. I don't know what happened in the writing of this book but I found the start nausiating and the rest of the book to be marvellous.
Dr Valiante has changed my focus from the purely mechanical to include the mental side in my swing preparation. My golf swing has become smoother, more focused, more targeted and more confident.
Consciously Unconscious.......2007-04-10
Really relax when you play golf. Among other useful tips, this book will teach you how reducing your grip pressure will improve your shot.
Bob .......2007-03-31
I have been golfing for two years since retirement. I knew my problems were mental and I felt I was the only one who experienced this. This book has shown I am not alone by a long sight and it provided helpful suggestions to cope with my tension and doubt. I have just started to use the ideas this year and it gives me a whole new perspective on approaching the game.

Must have.......2007-09-24
This is a must have product for anyone working on Jetta, Golf or Gti cars
Knowing how to service everything in your car, priceless.......2007-09-19
I had one to many issues with shady repair shops and got this book for my aging Wolfsburg 1.8T Jetta. The insight into the construction and service of my car has been priceless. You need to bring your own patience, methodical troubleshooting approach, and motivation if you get into the bigger stuff. Yet, whether you have someone else do the work or whether you do everything yourself this book provides invaluable insight. It will certainly pay for itself.
repair book.......2007-07-19
this book as everything you ever wanted to know about your jetta. It's a good refrence
The only book you need........2007-07-06
This is the standard repair manual. Really long and detailed. Best you can get for VWs
The only manual to have..........2007-06-15
But then, it's about the only manual available. Personally, I think they cut corners simply because they have no real competition. This is the only useable manual for the MK IV cars.

Book Description
Improve your swing with the teacher the pros trust:
"(Jim Hardy) was the one person who really had the greatest influence on me in terms of my teaching. Jim had such an incredible mind for the game of golf."
--From The Only Golf Lesson You'll Ever Need by Hank Haney, Tiger Woods' golf coach
"Jim Hardy is the most knowledgeable teacher in golf. No other instructor has his understanding of golf swing techniques and what makes them work.”
--Peter Jacobsen, Champions Tour player and winner of seven PGA Tour championships
If your shots are off target and your swing needs improving, you simply won't find a better fix than the powerful breakthrough techniques of Jim Hardy. Jim's smash bestseller, The Plane Truth for Golfers, introduced the revolutionary one-plane and two-plane swings to golfers and teaching pros around the world. It changed how players think about golf and how the game is taught.
In this exciting master class follow-up, he takes your swing to the next level, giving you in-depth instruction in how to execute both of these swings perfectly for on-target shots every time.
Jim shows you how to:
- Assume the proper stance and posture for each style
- Position and move your hips, shoulders, and torso correctly
- "Feel" the difference when you correct the faults in your swing
- Gain proficiency in your swing with detailed drills for both styles
He begins by giving you a review of the basics, outlining the one-plane and two-plane swings as he emphasizes his most crucial lesson: “All swings are either one- or two-plane actions, and to become good at golf you must work towards being a fundamental purist, only learning and employing those elements relative to your swing type.” With Jim's guidance, you'll first determine which swing type is right for you, then master your specialized swing. It's a powerful feeling when your body and arms are moving in total coordination with the club, and it can only happen once you master the art of the swing.

An excellent follow up to the first book!.......2007-09-15
I have found Master Class to be an excellent follow up to the first book, The Plane Truth for Golfers. The first book lays the foundation for the two different types of golf swings, and Master Class takes you farther into the "how to's" of performing each swing. There are many more pictures in this second book demonstrating the necessary positions, and much information on the various faults for each swing and drills for how to correct them. Those that say that this book is repetitive information from the first book obviously have not read both books in detail. If you go to get a golf lesson, you don't get all of the information in the first or second lesson. That's the beauty of Mr. Hardy's teachings. He gives it to you in the proper sequence for learning it. His DVD's are excellent additions to the book that offer much more for the visual learner and also give you a glimpse into the genuine character of Mr. Hardy. There is no need for me to read any other instruction and my golf game is improving. So will yours.
The Plane Truth for Golfers Master Class.......2007-08-09
Excellent product and follow up to the original book by Jim Hardy. Well written, and gives good guides for some specific problems that players can encounter. A lot more drills than in the first book as well.
It does get more technical and slightly more complex to assimilate. Some of the things described are hard to visualize, and seem to moderately contradict some of the teachings in the first book, particularly in the use of the arms in the down swing.
Good To Know.......2007-06-01
I think it is a stretch to call this book the best one ever written on the full swing. That is too much of a blanket statement and the fact is that each golfer finds their own path to golf "enlightenment". I didn't find this book to be that much different from the Plane Truth for Golfers.
What has made me understand the difference between each swing is that there is a "Classic" swing and then there is the "Modern" swing. The classic swing is characterized by that Reverse C position caused by tilting. The modern swing is characterized by stable legs and more of a rotation of the body.
Very Nice Follow Up to Plane Truth for Golfers.......2007-05-31
I have the original Plane Truth and the DVD series. The Plane Truth Masters Class is an excellent follow up to these. I especially like the new and additional drills for each type of swing. In this book, Hardy breaks down the two swings in their own sections in the book with drill chapters that correspond to that swing type. This makes it easier for those who already know which swing type they are-
The Plane Truth for Golfers Master Class .......2007-05-21
Decent job of explaining the one and two plane swings. If you have read the first plane truth book, you really do not need to get this one. Some additional depth to the explanations, but not worth spending the additional money. If you are debating between the two books, get the first one.

Book Description
It's not about changing your swingit's about changing your mind: Two legendary coaches give golfers a powerful new approach to the game... and to life.
As coaches to some of golf's top players, Pia Nilsson and Lynn Marriott have designed and refined a revolutionary way of teaching the game, with phenomenal results. They don't believe in prescribing the same stance, grip, and swing to everyone, followed by hours of purposeless drilling. They don't even believe in beginning with physical technique. Their success has proven to them that a great game begins with a great vision.
Unlike any other golf book, Every Shot Must Have a Purpose offers cutting-edge techniques for integrating the physical, technical, mental, emotional, and social parts of a player's game. The book's revolutionary pre-shot routine will improve your focus, leading to a golf swing that is not only successful but can be repeated under extreme pressure. Emphasizing the individual golfer rather than a rigid set of mechanics, their VISION54 method takes the frustration out of the game. Why 54? Because they believe it's possible to shoot a 54 (making a birdie on every hole of a par-72 course) if you have the right mind-set and well-honed intuitive power.
An engaging read for the beginner or the seasoned golfer, Every Shot Must Have a Purpose is inspiration for life, not just the links.
I have been impressed by Pia ever since I saw her in action in the late 1980's, first as a player and then as my coach. Pia is open-minded and intelligent and possesses the desire to constantly help others develop... I have been inspired to follow her beliefs and life philosophy.

"Must have book for your mental game".......2007-08-31
At first when I got this book, I thought this was just another book to help you with your mental game. But after reading this book, I find it has help me focus on every shot. I like their idea of "think box" and "play box". I find when I'm ready to swing that I had so many swing thoughts that it would really mess me up when I swing. The authors kept it simple to where I did all my thinking in the "think box" (choose target, type of swing, etc). Once you cross the line and stepped into the "play box" all you do is just focus on the target and just swing. I find myself hitting closer to the target and not all over the fairway.
The other ideas mentioned in the book are really helpful. Keeping positive thoughts as opposed to negative thoughts when you swing helps. If all you do is focus on avoiding the bunker or water, well guess what happens your shot ends up in the bunker or water. I am having a lot more fun playing a round of golf after reading this book.
I highly recommend this book for help with your mental game!
every shot must have a purpose.......2007-08-26
helps one to focus of the importance of thinking about the importance of every shot when playing golf
How to Drop 8 shots quickly.......2007-07-06
This little Book replaces all the dozens of books that I have purchased over the years. I read it through twice and have reduced my score from the mid nineties to the mid Eighties. I am 76 years old and am living proof that you can teach an old Duffer some new Tricks. I play with an over 50 Group twice a month and last Month I won my "D" Flight by 5 Shots, earning a $51.00 Gift Certificate. It is so full,of good common sense, and mainly confirms the most important distance in Golf is the Five Inches between your Ears.
Sound basic advice, but the writing is gimmicky........2007-05-11
As most of the other reviews mention, this book is focused on the mental and emotional approach to golf, as opposed to swing mechanics. I think that's great. You can pick up some useful insight, and hopefully you can get advice on your swing mechanics in person from a qualified instructor (definitely the best way to go).
The authors give some good advice on how to approach the game. They talk about a "think box" and "play box," which are useful concepts. I picked up a good slogan, "achieve and leave," which I now say to myself when I start getting compulsive on the practice range.
The bad news is that I found the writing to be full of gimmicks and advertisements. They use a lot of UPPERCASE LETTERING for emphasis which drives me crazy because I feel like they're shouting at me (okay, I may have some personal issues here...). They went so far as to trademark the name GOLF54, and they shamelessly promote their schools and some pseudo-science nonsense called HEARTMATH.
If you're looking for a good book on the mental game, check out Golf Is Not A Game Of Perfect (Bob Rotella), Fearless Golf (Gio Valiante), or Extraordinary Golf (Fred Shoemaker).
Physical, Technical, Emotional.......2007-04-10
Bring all the aspects of your golf game together and learn how you think about the game itself. There are also exercises and challenges to help you improve your game.

Book Description
The best players know that golf is a game of confidence, and most important, concentration–the ability to focus and block out distraction. The goal of achieving clear thought is also at the heart of Buddhist teachings. In his highly original and groundbreaking book, noted PGA coach and Buddhist instructor, Dr. Joseph Parent, draws on this natural connection and teaches golfers how to clear their minds, achieve ultimate focus, and play in the moment for each shot.
Zen Golf presents a simple system for building “mental game mastery.” Dr Parent’s unique PAR Approach (focusing on Preparation, Action, and Response to Results) guides golfers with specific techniques for each aspect of their games. In chapters such as “How to Get From the Practice Tee to the First Tee”, “You Produce What You Fear”, and “How to Enjoy a Bad Round of Golf”, the author shares a personal teaching regimen that has helped improve the games of professionals and amateurs alike. By combining classic insights and stories from Zen tradition, Zen Golf helps eliminate the mental distractions that routinely cause poor shots and loss of concentration, allowing golfers to feel in “the zone” that professionals have learned to master.
Clear, concise, and enlightening, Zen Golf shows golfers how to prepare for, execute, and equally important, respond the results of any golf shot. A different approach to golf instruction, this book shapes ancient philosophies into new teachings.

By far one of the best books on the mental side of sports that I have ever read, and I have never even swung a club!
Outa my own way!.......2007-08-14
Dear Dr Joe:
Just got back from San Diego where I was able to play golf four days with my
grown sons, nephews, and some other folks I picked up games with randomly.
Included a round at Torrey Pines South.
Have reread both Zen Golf and Zen Putting following our time together in Sun
Valley. Can't thank you enough for your coaching of the mental game. I've
never enjoyed PLAYING golf so much in my life. Followed up your clinic with
a day spent with Lama Tenzin Dondhen who was in Sun Valley. He gave a guided
meditation morning with a progression of mantras moving into silent
meditation, then a talk in the afternoon. All tied together beautifully.
Thanks so much for your service and passing along the wisdom that can't be
found because it's already there!
Zen Golf: Mastering the Mental Game.......2007-08-06
Audiobook review - very helpful combination of advice on handling the mental aspect of the game along with exercises to practice control. Read/listened in conjunction with Extraordinary Putting which also discusses the mental part of the game - I recommend both.
shot my best golf after reading this book.......2007-07-10
I was constantly looking for that next "tip" for my swing mechanics that would help me play a better game of golf, but all each tip did was give me one more thing to spin around in my head as I approached the ball, and by the time I got around to swinging the club, I was losing focus.
I was inconsistent, frustrated and was thinking of giving the game up, since I wasn't having any fun. Then my cousin recommended this book for me. I read it in a week's time. My first round of golf after that, I shot an "OK" score, but I enjoyed my time out on the course so much more than before.
Two days later, I shot the best round of my life.
This book really has changed the way I approach the game, each hole, and each shot. I enjoy myself so much more, am more relaxed, and most importantly - I am having more fun playing the game.
Dr. Parent's visualization techniques are very helpful. And he doesn't just tell you how you should approach golf, he shows you. Well worth every penny!!!

40 years later and finally got a clue.......2007-06-14
Playing golf, getting lessons from the like of the great Dave Stockton(Mac O'grady system) and , attending the Masters for the last 10 years..none of that helped me like these Cds.
My attitude and direction for a better game helped me garner my 1st Senior National Championship 2007 (1st flight Costa Rica). Find a pro, learn the mechanical side, and most importantly, trust the Rotella Mental game!
Happy Game.......2007-04-14
I'd really had few expectations about something like a psychologist saying things about golf playing. But I found myself so nervous last amateur tournament I engaged, that I was about to try anything. What a surprise!! Not only my game has improved immediately, but, most important, I'm having much more fun. My government has charged me 60% import taxes but it worthed every nickel.
A Must Have.......2007-02-20
It's amazing how Rotella knows every single thought that passes through a golfers mind while putting, approaching or while making any other type of shot. The examples and exercises are very helpful, I thought it would be difficult to imagine all the scenarios, since this is my first audiobook, but I had no problems at all! If you play golf and want to improve your game and handicap this is definitely a must have!
Rotella is a must for any serious golfer.......2007-02-15
Fantastic value for money. Any experienced golfer will understand the importance of the metal game of golf. This series of cds will get you thinking differently about golf - I have just had two shots shaved off my handicap!!
Rotella Rules.......2006-03-09
Having read a couple of Rotella's books I knew what to expect, but listening to the CD's was still very helpful. His level headed approach to keeping your cool and playing in the moment should do much to keep my head in the game.
His advice is not trendy or overdone. Very practical but very believable.
His style is anectodal, informal and approachable. Well worth a listen.
