Book Description
Fourteen-year-old Eric is plagued by thoughts that germs on his hands could be making his family sick. Kelly, age 8, feels distressed if she can't count her pencils in multiples of four. No one wants to get rid of OCD more than they do--that's why Talking Back to OCD puts the power to beat obsessions and compulsions in their hands. This uniquely designed volume is really two books in one. The first portion of each chapter teaches children and adolescents skills they can use to take charge of the illness. Instructions that follow show their parents how to provide encouragement and support. Based on the most effective known treatment for OCD, the book demonstrates ways to "boss back" when OCD butts in, enabling many youngsters and teens to eliminate their symptoms entirely. Early-onset OCD is as common as diabetes; this powerful book will help thousands of young people show this unwelcome visitor to the door.

Outstanding book!.......2007-09-10
When we first realized our son was showing signs of OCD, we began to research any information that would somehow help us. We needed material that was practical and would give answers and guidance to enable us to get our son back.
We found this book and began working through the steps with our son. The explainations were clear. The quotes from other kids with OCD were encouraging. The layout was reader friendly. My son gave OCD a nickname as Dr. March suggests in his approach. He hated OCD as much as we all did for stealing so much of his time and causing such frustration. The blame was on "OCD" not my son as a person and this was a huge step forward.
I can hardly believe the progress we saw as we worked through this book. Slowly and steadily my son began to chip away at each obssesion/compulsion. He mapped them out and graphed the progress. It was a difficult task, but this book was like having Dr. March give my son and the whole family personal therapy at every turn.
We had looked at other material on OCD and even tried a therapist, but NOTHING compared to the information and tactics explained in this book. We have our son back! He's free again - free from the OCD! What more can I say?
the best child-centered book for overcoming OCD.......2007-08-24
My 11-year old son has been in weekly therapy for treatment of OCD for over one year. One-on-one therapy has been very useful and cannot be overlooked. However, reading this book, TALKING BACK TO OCD, together with my son and having him follow it verbatim is what truly helped him BEAT OCD and know that he is in control! My son followed the instructions completely and has been nearly symptom free for over three months. Dr March's book gave my son the confidence to control his brain pathways and know how to "talk back" when OCD rears its ugly head again. I HIGHLY recommend this book over all others (and I have read them all!)
Consider this before you buy............2007-07-10
I have watched a child endure OCD for 6 years, trying medication, nutrients and formal cognitive behaviorial therapy with various improvements and exacerbations. With no disrespect to the author, this book is does not give any "new look" to OCD as the Part I is titled.
The author indicates that the child can assume responsibility for the "homework" to enage in CBT. That won't happen from reading this book. The content to kids is buried. Even my 16 year old honor student found it convoluted, repetitive and not engaging. And, he has had formal CBT therapy and tried to use the book as a refresher.
The hype on this book makes it sound "child-centered". That's a lure. It is definitely an adult read. In fact each chapter has extensive sections called "Instructions for Parents."
If you are looking for a book geared to a child or young adult with OCD to help them help themselves, this is not the one.
Excellent.......2007-03-10
John March - as usual- has provided a comprehensive view and treatment manual for OCD. Might be too difficult to apply as a parent, but a wonderful resource for any professional!
Excellent Service and Product.......2007-02-01
Item arrived in a timely manner and was in excellent (new) condition. Thanks!

Go!!.......2007-01-05
I purchased this for my nephew who has developed a passion for Go. I gave it to him but he issued a challenge at the board. Woefully out of practice, I read the book. Both he and I agree, the book is terrific. It is clear and concise. We both will be moving the next volumes.
Excellent introduction.......2006-11-25
Being new to playing Go, I found this book to be extremely helpful. It's simple but effective explanation of the three core phases of the game acts as a fantastic introduction to some of the most essential elements of play. A lot of concepts that were a bit hazy with me came into concrete solidity after reading through this book. I've read a lot of free instructional material on the internet, but Kim's coverage of the same material in this book is far more clear than any of those free sources.
This is the way to Go.......2005-01-17
Suppose you wanted to learn to play chess or bridge. Well, you would ask people to tell you the rules. And you would improve just by trial and error. But you might also need something you could use for a textbook or reference that would guide you through the steps to become more than a beginner. That's true in Go as well.
One problem with Go is that it is often hard for a beginner to have any idea what the score is. In bridge, you know the score. In chess, you can see if you are ahead in material. In Go, it is tougher to see how you are doing. It makes it that much more confusing for an untrained beginner.
And that is where we come to books on Go for the beginner. There are a variety of introductory books, such as the ones by Cho Chikun, or Kaoru Iwamoto, or Richard Bozulich, or Peter Shotwell (not to mention older ones such as those by Otto Korscheldt, or Edward Lasker, or Kaku Takagawa, or Arthur Smith). Some are by famous Go champions, some are not. But one can read any of these books carefully, play a few games, and still be a very weak player.
For a set of books that can take one from a complete beginner, teach one the rules, and get one to single-digit kyu strength (or close to it), I like Janice Kim's 5-volume set the best. And this is the second volume in it (second edition, 1998).
I think these books teach the fundamentals better than the other books I mentioned. In this book, one learns about making bases, running with attacked stones (that moving horse!), invading and reducing territory, and a little about attacking and defending. I liked the example of a ko fight where one side runs out of ko threats but still comes out ahead (although losing the ko) because the winning ko threat was to try to escape from a ladder (adding stones to the ladder was worth as much as the ko). And I liked the emphasis on preventing the "tiger's mouth" formation as a fundamental concept of contact fighting.
This book is really easy to read: one does not even need a Go board to understand it. And I thought it was a good idea for Kim to refer to White (generally the stronger player) as "she," and Black as "he."
The first book in this series is for total beginners, and it teaches the rules of the game. That material can be absorbed very quickly. After that, this book ought to be easily readable for anyone who is interested in the game.
Excellent second book of go.......2003-02-20
This was the second book I purchased for learning go (the first was Charles Matthew's 'Teach Yourself Go'). For the beginner, Go can be somewhat frustrating to get into. There is a plethora of books that will teach you the basic rules, but these can also be learned from a variety of web sites.
After these, the average beginner knows the rules, but not how to actually play. An opponant will play a stone right next to one of theirs, and they don't know how to respond... do I play above it? or on the other side? do I ignore it and play another hoshi (star point)?
This book teaches the reader about making jumps (how to expand on territory you're claiming or keep from being captured), base extensions (in order to stake out territory), and the basics of ko fights and contact fighting (what happens when stones are played right next to each other). If you've done a bit of playing and problem solving online, I would recommend picking up the next book in this series at the same time. As soon as you finish this book, you'll begin to see more patterns in games and understand that there is more you should be seeing behind the moves. As a result, you will probably want to study the game more, and the next book is really still a mid-level book.
My only complaint about the book would have to be just that. The niche it fills, for the reader who has learned the rules but isn't ready for serious study of go patterns yet, isn't filled unless you have both the second and third book in this series. These probably should have been published as one larger book. That notwithstanding, it's an excellent second (and third) book of Go.
As a side note, while the fourth book in this series is quite interesting, it is not as much of a prerequisite for studying other books, such as the Elementary Go Series, as book II and III.

Entertaining if nothing else..........2007-06-12
This is a funny read and has some good facts and information for both old and new Bisexuals, but the quizzes could have been better or left out completly.
Some of the questions for the quizzes were too broad, since some of us have never been in situations they pertain too.
I did think that they focused more on the sex issues then the mind/soul/community issues, but it was informative nonetheless.
However, I had great fun reading the book and could tell that the authors worked hard to acheive a good balance of sobriety and humor to make it entertaining instead of sterile.
I am actually looking forward to another book by the authors, if they decide to make one!
Not the greatest,,but better than most........2007-03-20
I liked the book. It was a fun read and had some very insightful parts. Not to be taken too seriously,,,but for those who are just coming out..a good thing to have in your arsenal.
Wow, I never thought I'd like this, it's for gay guys too!.......2007-01-21
Who'd think that a dyed-in-the-wool gay guy would get so much out of a book called this. It's not a great title, because it limits who's going to pick it up, but geez, it's funny. I laughed out loud a few times and called a few of my friends to read sections of it. It's a humor book, and it has a lot of facts in it too.
Like every gay guy, I've had my share of relatioships with supposedly straight or bi guys who I always think are going to leave me for a girl, and they often do. Well, I wish I had that funny contract at the back of the book about what to fill out for my partners. I love it. Like the section that limits your partner's "other partner" to leaving one foot on the floor at all times, or not leaving a toothbrush over at the house.
I'm most fascinated about the celebs they have talking to them, and also the scientific research, good and bad about bi people. I didn't knw there was so much about it, and so much confusion. I love the animals section, where everything from snails to whales show incidents of going both ways.
Even if you're not promiscuous, or if you're straight, or gay, of if you've ever wondered or wandered the other way, you'll find something enjoyable in this. It's a perfect bathroom book, to pick up and read while sitting there. I've bought three copies for guys who wll at first get offended, but I've marked the pages they should read. Thanks Nicole and Michael for a good laugh.
A Must Read Book.......2007-01-10
This is a great read for ANYONE. Don't be intimidated by the title. It's not just for Bisexual folks. It's funny and has some great "tests" to take on sexuality.
Hilarious Bisexual Fun!.......2006-11-22
This book is totally hilarious! It's a light-hearted fun read that kept me laughing all the way through. I love the description of the professional bisexual activist, the cute quizzes, and everything in between. I kinda wish that one of the intro chapters had been turned into a concluding chapter instead, but that is a minor criticism.
We bisexuals have so many books on theory, biphobia, bi representation, and tons of other much-need, but not necessarily fun, topics. This is the bi humor book I've always wanted to read.

Book Description
In the Philippines, Henry Makow, 48, discovered a tropical paradise where women are still traditional and the husband is the head of the household. A LONG WAY TO GO FOR A DATE is Makow's candid and ironic account of his courtship and marriage to a young Filipina. The book recounts his quest for love and masculine identity at a time when both are under siege in America. A book for men and women who want to understand them.
Customer Reviews:
A good read if you are a man, but women will probably hate this book.......2007-03-29
I got this book a few years ago and thought it was a very good read. Although i dont agree with some of the choices the author made in his life (in regard to marrying someone so much younger than himself) He does make some very interesting points about feminism in the united states. Definately worth the 10 bucks i paid for this book as there are lots of things you can learn from his mistakes and from his wisdom on feminism.
Disturbing.......2006-08-31
The little girl with the bucket on the cover (looking for a husband as a way out of poverty?) is not the most twisted part. . . At least he is not advocating the sale of under aged girls. But it's not that far off. Remember that part of the the book the Joy Luck Club where they sold their daughter? I picture this guy lining up with a few bills asking where he can buy one. You need a good shower after reading this. It left me feeling slimed. creepy, creepy, creepy. I do admit to not reading it cover to cover. You don't need to watch an entire movie before you walk out. I picked up a copy in the library and read some of it thinking, "dude, you can't be that bad of a date," but as I read on I though, well. . . maybe. . .
Seen it all before.......2006-08-17
A social reject, possibly with a mysogynist or male dominant complex, goes to Asia to find a more "tractable" female. Women from own area are now "too ugly", "too aggressive", "not feminine", or "mercenary".
He finds a number of females who are interested and willing. This can be for a number of reasons: for example, some of the women are "professionals". The men have an advantage in thier upbringing which teaches that a certain amount of respect or courtesy be given to women. This gives any non-Asian male an advantage over Asian men.
The man, usually over the moon about his good luck, ignores any mercenary motive on the part of the female for getting involved (money, green card, etc.).
I've hung around Asia, notably Thailand and the Phillipines, long enough to observe that a lot of these women
a) know the guy is unattractive
b) but don't care because they're getting something out of it.
Going "shopping" for a mail order bride as if people were the equivalent of car parts or something that could be easily replaced shows a lack of concern for women as individuals - basically negating what makes a man charming to these women in the first place.
I didn't see anything in Makow's handling of this other than his bad attitude and need to exert dominance and control, which, oddly enough, didn't make him any taller or better looking. It's hard to tell if he was looking for a relationship or a sex slave, but somehow I'd guess the latter.
Sexist claptrap.......2006-06-13
I'm sorry to have to give even one star to this sexploitative abomination. Don't buy this book. Or buy it, and make us relive the '50's... which led to the '60's. God help us, that led to the 70's and all that polyester. No! We must never go back.
Dont waste your money, dont waste your time........2006-04-25
In my opinion, this book is a complete disaster. I'd say it is a perfct example of what not to do when encountering other cultures. I managed to make it only to page 42 and finally just threw the damm thing in the trash. I don't know the ending to this sad tale, I only hope that the young lady he courted doesn't end up stuck in a foriegn country all alone. Knowing what I know now I would not buy this book again because I was expecting good information about what to expect, instead I was exposed to diatribe about what is wrong with women.

Customer Reviews:
Good book for multicultural unit.......2006-01-08
The illustrations in the book aren't fantastic, but they are clear and show the landscape of where each child lives. The text describes, using only a sentence or two for each page, how children around the world get to school. I think the brief text is great for the subject--since the book generates a lot of discussion, it takes awhile to get through. This is the type of book I would recommend in paperback for your classroom use; don't spend the extra money for a hardcover version. The kids enjoy hearing it but it's not something they'll ask for over and over. Oh- and the book has a back page with a map showing where each child is from. What a great addition for Kindergarten/First graders who are more familiar with the globe.
The Way We Go.......2002-03-28
This is a book about children around the world. The people go to school on bikes and skateboards. They hide under trees. They walk on paths. They walk down hills. The are not aloud to go outside.
Wonderful book for multiculural and transportation lessons.......1998-10-13
Next year I will be a teacher and I am starting to build my classroom library now. This book is a wonderful book to have. It discusses forms of transportation that most children would not think of. It also teaches them about other places in the world.

Book Description
These days, everyone seems to race through the day multi-tasking at breakneck speed, with no time for quiet prayer. Author Barbara Bartocci was frustrated by this factuntil she realized an important truth: Every single task is potentially holy if we do it with a holy intent. And that's the premise of Grace on the Go. This book offers quick, imaginative ways to help busy people make prayer an integral part of their days.
Part One contains short reflections from real life, designed to lead the reader into a few minutes of quiet meditative prayer, offering a brief "step of holy action" to incorporate into an ordinary day. Part Two offers ways to turn a single minutefrom drive time to lunch timeinto a prayerful encounter with God.

Praying on the Go.......2006-08-10
A new book out from award winning author Barbara Bartocci has breathed fresh air and energy in to my prayer life. In Grace on the Go: 101 Quick Ways to Pray (Morehouse Publishing, paperback, 98 pages, May 2006), Bartocci acknowledges life's frantic pace and offers her readers support and encouragement for making active, frequent prayer a part of their lives.
In the beginning of the book, Bartocci describes her own frustration over trying to lead a truly spiritual life. With the following words, Bartocci hits at the heart of what, in my book, makes her Grace on the Go so special:
"And I realized that "living spiritually" is not something that exists out there. It's a commitment to make our lives - as they unfold - a gift to God."
Grace on the Go: 101 Quick Ways to Pray is not like other tomes on prayer I've seen - it's designed to be read in small bits. From its diminutive 2.6 ounce design to its format of being written in small segments, the book lends itself to any active life. Tuck it into your purse or diaper bag. Slip it into the front zipper pocket of your organizer. Set it in the glove compartment or cup holder of your car. Then pick it up and dive in. It doesn't matter which page you land on when you open the book - you'll find immediate inspiration and motivation. I've been enjoying and frequently reading it during my daily activities and have found it to be a wonderful spiritual resource.
In the closing pages of the book, Barbara Bartocci references Mother Theresa's statement that the busier her life became, the greater her need for prayer. The same holds true for you and I - grace comes in finding moments each day, no matter where life puts us, to turn our hearts to God.
A perfect "picker upper" in every sense.......2006-07-10
You can judge this book by its cover. It's not a heavy. It's quick reading that gets you going spiritually -- and it's small enough to tuck into a backpack, glove compartment of purse.
I like the way it's laid out by both time of day and times of need. Barbara's suggestions are uplifing and at the same time realistic. I had to smile at No. 9: "...resolve to do something kind for someone who (rubs) you the wrong way...then notice how difficult it is to make yourself do it."
GRACE ON THE GO is a keeper. It's also a terrific small gift.
A Tiny Treasure Jampacked with Inspiration.......2006-07-01
In Barbara Bartocci's book, Grace on the Go: 101 Quick Ways to Pray, she presents "practical and imaginative ways to put a spiritual spin on your ordinary day."
"A relationship with God is always like a two-step dance," writes Bartocci, "one step going inward in prayer and another step going outward in loving action." Thus, in most mini-meditations, she offers a specific action step.
Each reflection is thoughtfully written with nuggets of truth and vivid anecdotes that can anchor the ideas in your heart. Plus, her creative imagery is entertaining. "Most of the time we carry our bodies around like briefcases, hardly noticing them."
Her refreshing thought, Practice Shower Power, is only 57 words long. Another reflection ends with "Today, look for just one person--or one situation--that could benefit from ... kindness." Drawing from her lifetime of Christian faith, Bartocci even includes a compact description of the age-old practice of centering prayer.
"People who want a strong spiritual core need to pray regularly," writes Bartocci. "Prayer doesn't always require formal words or a visit to church but it does require daily practice. It's why I'm writing this book."
Grace on the Go is brimming with insight and quick to read. At only 3 ounces, it's perfect for fitting into a purse, a pocket or a letter to your friend. I've already found several opportunities for giving it away ... if I had just been willing to part with my only copy.

Book Description
Girls' athletic participation in school and community sports programs is skyrocketing. Girls now comprise thirty-three percent of all high school athletes, representing a dramatic increase from four percent who participated in 1971, the year before the enactment of Title IX. You Go Girl! is a collection of first person insights, thoughts and stories from successful women in the world of sports. Athletes, coaches, and sports executives talk about their lives, their dreams, their frustrations and disappointments-as well as their victories and passions, practice habits and perspectives. Their stories will inspire, teach, motivate, encourage and challenge any reader-male or female. Among the women who have contributed their personal anecdotes and insights are: Mia Hamm (soccer); Gabrielle Reece (beach volleyball); Marion Jones (sprinter and long jumper); Kerri Strug (gymnastics); Chris Evert (tennis); Nancy Lopez (golf); Picabo Street (Olympic gold medal skier) and many others. Most of today's young women went through school after the 1972 passage of title IX: the same cannot be said of their mothers. This book provides a powerful opportunity to close that gap.

Women of Texas.......2000-11-17
I just got my copy of You Go Girl in the mail. I am Mom who traveles in her van all over town to attend her kids sports activities, and this book has been with me all week. I liked the way Charlie and Kim told the personal stories along with professional truimphs. I think woman of all ages would enjoy reading this book. It has truly been a hit in our household.
Inspiring and Uplifting!.......2000-08-29
The book "You Go Girl" is a must have for female athletes of all ages. As you read through each chapter, the steps and obstacles of becoming a successful athlete are presented in the stories of women in the world of sports. The greatest part is you can pick up the book and begin reading any story! I am a teenager playing 3 sports in high school and can easily apply the lessons these women present into my daily routine. I have recommended this book to my friends and cannot wait to show my coaches!
EXTRAORDINARY BOOK!.......2000-07-18
These amazing women athletes all made the decision to set a goal, to have the right attitude, to have faith and determination, and to make sacrifices in order to reach their dreams/goals in life. This book is very uplifting and inspirational - full of wisdom, optimism, gratitude and joy. It is truly a gift that makes you feel so good after reading just a few pages. I had the opportunity to share some of the stories with my male friends and they enjoyed it as much as I did. My five star recommendation goes out to both Kim and Charlie. Thanks for being able to share all these inspirational stories with us!
You go girl.......2000-07-14
A must reading for females and males a like. I bought it for my 2 girls, ages 10 and 7 and started to read it before them. It is not just about sports but rather how we all should approach things in our life and situations that arise... I am making sure my 2 boys and wife also read it and I am recommendeing it to my students

I flipped through this book at a local book store and was impressed with the life lessons Doren and Jones have presented in a wonderfully readable fashion. I gave "What makes winners win?" to my grandson, I'll give my grandaughter "You go girl" and hope they both read it!

Book Description
Are some people just born lucky? The answer is no, people control their own fortunes. The Book of Luck will show you that there is a way to structure your luck and to bring success into your life and into your control. It will show you how to be lucky, always, demonstrating what has gone wrong in the past and outlining what you need to know for the future. Summers and Watson use extensive research and draw on their personal experiences both professionally and personally, to bring you a book crammed full of practical tips on how to turn the tide of your luck.
This book will appeal to people who want to move up in life, people who have been made redundant, people who have plateaued in their careers and people who are ambitious for the next step - or simply people who want to make more of themselves in a business or personal context. The Book of Luck shows you how to:
- choose your own luck
- use social situations to increase your potential for luck
- use your own personal strengths to increase your luck
- choose how you respond to situations and maximise your luck
- train your mind to expect long term success
- develop a good luck mindset.
