Book Description
So says Fox News military analyst Colonel David Hunt in a book that cuts like a buzz saw through the half-measures and half-truths, the dangerous timidity, and the outright stupidity that—if left unchecked—will lead America to lose the War on Terror.
In the hard-hitting On the Hunt, Colonel Hunt draws on his twenty-nine years of active military service and his high-level military and intelligence contacts to give an inside perspective on this global struggle, setting him far apart from the usual pundits and talking heads. Here he presents fifty pages of previously unpublished documents that reveal the chillingly detailed plans of the terrorists and insurgents who target Americans, as well as U.S. tactics to stop our enemies.
From the Department of Homeland Security (“Get rid of it. Scrap it.”) to military leaders who have almost zero combat experience to risk-averse, politically correct strategic decision-making, Colonel Hunt pinpoints dire problems that need to be fixed before it’s too late (which it nearly is). Offering real solutions that most politicians and pundits are too timid to talk about, On the Hunt lays out specific steps to:
• Win the war in Iraq by changing the way we fight—by taking the gloves off and, in doing so, honoring the sacrifices our soldiers are making
• Deal with Iran, North Korea, and other dangerous threats
• Solve the illegal immigration crisis and keep America’s enemies from breaching our borders (both of them)
• Make our towns and cities more secure—not by looking to the federal bureaucracy but by taking responsibility ourselves
• Protect the liberties of American citizens at home
• Ensure that our soldiers are trained and equipped to fight today’s and tomorrow’s wars
As Colonel Hunt’s millions of viewers on Fox News and all the readers of his bestselling book They Just Don’t Get It will expect, he pulls no punches while incisively analyzing a war unlike any other. In On the Hunt, Colonel Hunt reveals exactly how high the stakes really are in the War on Terror. He condemns failed policies and the people who made them (and, yes, he names names). And most important, he clearly identifies the strategies, tactics, and qualities of leadership that we must bring to bear to ensure the survival of the proud and free nation we love.

Hunt for President!.......2007-06-13
...or at least Secretary of Defense. Colonel Hunt doesn't hold back at all in this book, its not your typical academic style book.
I loved his style eg page 8 he says that all that matters is "killing the bad guys and bringing our boys home in 1 piece.F*** the rest" He's prepared to lay the smackdown on terrorists and the hopeless politicians in charge in D.C whom he calls "pantywaists" and says they need to 'grow a pair" ha ha love it! Finally a no BS look at the War and what needs to be done.
Essentially the Colonel says its quite simple:kill the bad guys, it doesn't matter what the politicians think, what the world thinks, how much it costs or who gets the credit. Any leader who can't handle this and is more concerned with their career is a girleyman who needs to be sacked. PC types won't like this book, heck they probably wouldn't be able to pick it up with their limp wrists, the stuff in this book is enough to make Ted Kennedy drive off a(nother) bridge.
The only criticism I would have is that the Colonel also advocates showering baddie countries like North Korea with aid and goodwill in return for them giving up their nukes and support for terrorists. The problem with this is that these baddie countries are unlikely to abide by the terms of such deals, eg North Korea got such a deal from America in 1994 only to reveal in 2002 that they had been cheating on it all along.
All in all a great book that pulls no punches and has the balls to say what needs to be said, its very easy to simply write off the Colonel as a trigger happy cowboy but that's overlooking the serious failings in this war on terrorism and the solutions to fix them, President Bush must read this book and so should you if you don't then you may as well as the Colonel says "bend over and starting praying towards Mecca"
A lesson in character this nation sorely needs.......2007-06-08
When one reads the news, and listens to the expert opinions of "talking heads" on TV, it's all too easy to believe that the free world is facing complex problems that allow for no reasonable or successful solutions. The messages we receive include the following: we face 1.3 billion Muslims who blame us for all the ills of the world, and we should understand that it's their world and not ours; nobody in Europe or Britain loves us any more, so we must be terribly wrong; every time we try and react, we only make things worse; we had our run, and now it's time for us to step aside; western civilization is obsolete and on the way out.
Reading Colonel David Hunt's "On the Hunt" tells us: No, we're still in the game; and now's the time for us to kick some butt, make no excuses, offer no explanations, come back home a victor, and marry the prom queen.
My experience, as just one reader, is that I sleep better when I read Hunt right at bedtime. It makes me feel safe knowing that somebody, somewhere, understands it the way he does. If I become discouraged by current events and find myself starting to whimp out and despair, a couple of pages of Hunt gets me back on track. You may have exactly the opposite reaction, and, if that's the case, I'd suggest you leave it alone because "On The Hunt" is pretty potent stuff, and not everyone can handle it.
Maybe the most reassuring part of "On The Hunt" is the author's attitude: David Hunt simply was not born to die as an enemy collaborator. His prose is personal, conversational, and expressive, and communicates his attitude and feelings as well as his ideas. When "his time comes" I suspect he'll go out a warrior, having never surrendered or submitted. That's a character lesson this country sorely needs.
If we heed Hunt's advice and follow his example, and he is wrong, at least we won't go down whimpering, soiling our drawers, and apologizing.
Much like I thought it would be........2007-06-01
No ground breaking here, just some enlightenment. The best part of the book deals with the kind of leadership we have and the leadership we are sorely missing.
On The Money.......2007-05-12
Col Hunt is right on the money. Until America puts the conduct of the war in the hands of field commanders with combat experience, we will not win. I do not believe in a cut and run philosophy, but politician must remove themselves from the tactical decision making. I recommend this book.

The way it should have been.......2007-05-12
Just finished reading the book and it was a great read and told what should have been done during the Iraq War. It again proves to me that peacetime can be a badtime for the military in that many individuals rise up to leadership positions that are unqualified in the time of war.

Everyone should read this book. It will change your life and how you live, even where you live. Every product in this world will have an effect on one's health.
Rapp's MASTERPIECE.......2007-01-10
I have read all her books. This is the best. EVERY HOME SHOULD HAVE A COPY.
Required Reading!.......2006-02-04
When I first read the title, my first thought is "I know this, I've heard it before".
That is how I felt. Until I read the book. What an eye opener!
I happen to be one who rarely gets sick, and recovers quickly when I do. I also tend to opt for a healthier life style. However, there is a family history of cancer.
In reading this book, I realized that there is even more that I need to be doing to protect myself and my family. Dr. Rapp has done a considerable amount of research and shares her findings with the reader. Research references are listed at the end of each chapter for those wanting to learn even more.
If you own a home you need to read this book. If you rent a home or apartment, you need to know the information in this book. If you golf or live near a golf course, this book is for you. If you have children or grandchildren in school, consider reading this book.
Sleeper's Awake -- Dr. Rapp is Calling .......2005-11-05
As a pediatric nurse, I am deeply concerned about the increasing numbers of children who are falling prey to the deadly combination of environmental illness and toxic foods. We need a modern Florence Nightingale to light the way and go to bat to save our children and the environment from the increasing numbers of toxins. Read this book, become informed and please help. Pioneer Doctor .......2005-07-18
As a naturopath who works with many allergic and environmentally sensitive patients, I wholeheartedly recommend this book. In great depth, Dr. Rapp talks about the multiple factors that are causing so much ill health and suffering in our toxic world. Readers will find the author to be kind, compassionate and practical with "nuts and bolts" tips. She was a pioneer in this field and in this book shows she is at the top of her game. I hope she'll do a cookbook next as so many of the existing allergy cookbooks contain so much poor information, Dr. Rapp has a great website [...].
Book Description
Get Rich, Don’t Bitch
“I don’t have time to deal with my money.”
“Managing money and investing is too intimidating.”
“I’m not a numbers person.”
“My husband takes care of our finances.”
“I’m just not good with money.”
Jean Chatzky has heard all the excuses for why women don’t deal with their finances. She used to make them herself. For the first time, Jean tells you how she made every financial mistake in the book—not paying her bills, going into credit card debt, letting her 401(k) lapse—before finally making the decision to take control of her money and her future.
Whether you’ve made these mistakes or you want to avoid them, if you’re ready to take charge of your financial life then this is the book for you. In it, Jean shares these valuables lessons:
• Where to start
• How to decode financial jargon (it’s easier than you think)
• How to get over your “I’m not smart enough to deal with money” feelings
• Why being a “good-enough investor” will make you more money in the long-term (while trying to be a “great investor” will drive you crazy)
• Why you might think you are bad at math, and why that doesn’t have to be true
• How (and where) to save your money
• Why women make better investors—and higher returns—than men
Jean is famous for her ability to explain money and investing. In a clear and accessible way, she breaks down all the scariest parts of dealing with money—from investing in stocks to saving for your retirement—to make them doable, easy, and yes, even enjoyable. She also includes throughout a “Map to a Million,” great tips on easy and quick financial changes you can make immediately . . . that really add up!
Are You Ready to Be Rich?
If you want to get rich, if you want to be wealthier than you are today, you really need to do only four things. That’s right, just four things.
• You need to make a decent living
• You need to spend less than you make
• You need to invest the money you don’t spend so that it can work as hard for you as you’re working for yourself
• And you need to protect yourself and this financial world you’ve built so that a disaster—big or small—doesn’t take it all away from you
Everything else is just window-dressing. The fees—and how to avoid them. The advisors—and how to hire them. The deals. The scams. The ins. The outs. They are all interesting. Some of them are even quite important. But until you have conquered the heart of the matter, they are all minutia.
The four cornerstones, by contrast, are the meat and potatoes of your financial life. If you do those things today, you’ll start getting rich tomorrow. And once you feel set financially, you’ll be able to start focusing on the truly important things in life. —

A crowd pleaser.......2007-08-30
I see why Jean Chatzky is so popular, she really can break things down so that anyone at any level can understand them. At times I was hoping for something more but felt that I learned a lot nonetheless.
Practical insights -- not fluff (a "good" thing).......2007-05-30
I think Suzy Orman gave this industry (financial self-help) a bad name. Jean has restored its lustre.
Jean provides a thorough overview of the process of optimizing ones financial affairs. I'm in the investment management business (with Ivy degrees -- whatever that is worth) and am generally skeptical of this stuff, but Jean gives tangible, actionable insights, and writes with great skill. A clever book that is also useful -- rare.
Great Book for Women.......2007-05-19
I felt this book is great for those women who don't know enough about their finances, but would like to start. I am a single mom and do all my own, but still learned a few things to start saving for the future.
Guide to financial security for women........2007-04-08
The author wrote this book to be directed to women. If you enjoy shopping and hate dealing with finances, then this book is for you. Jean Chatzky will gently guide you with a little prodding to quit whining and get your finances in order.
She believes if you want to get rich, if you want to be wealthier than you are today, you really need to do only four things.
1)You need to make a decent living.
2)You need to spend less than you make.
3)You need to invest the money you don't spend so that it can work as hard for you as you are working for yourself.
4)And you need to protect yourself and this financial world you've built so that a disaster-big or small-doesn't take it all away from you.
This is outstanding advice and I completely agree with her, these have been the keys to building my personal 6 figure net worth.
She also has sprinkled through out "Map to a Million" which shows you what saving and investing a certain amount of money will grow to in 20 or 30 years. Some of the amounts are really shocking. For example start investing 10% of a $35,000 income at 30 years old and you will have $457,254 at retirement, if the employer gives a 5% match it will be $685,881 at 65 years old.(This does not even include raises, and the money gets about 8% a year in stock index funds).
If you are a beginner in personal finance reade this book, it will be a tremendous help. Also read Financial Peace by Dave Ramsey for a book from a male perspective.
A book every woman needs!.......2007-03-18
I am a single woman. Even though it addresses married women, it defintely is a must read or listen for all women. It gives you great tips and wonderful ideas on how to manage your money.

Book Description
Getting a young child to go to sleep and stay asleep is one of the most challenging aspects of parenting. Yet many parents resign themselves to enduring years of exhaustion. Practical help is not easy to find, and much of the available advice stresses letting even very young babies "cry it out," an option that is not comfortable for many parents. Kim West, known to her clients as The Sleep Lady®, has developed an alternative and effective approach that is gentler on both parent and child. West emphasizes that sleep is a learned skill and explains how parents can teach children to sleep, even at an early age. She starts with newborns, showing parents how to avoid sleep problems from the beginning. And she has solutions for older babies and children who have developed poor bedtime, nighttime, or nap time habits. The Sleep Lady methodincluding a gentle, practical, step-by-step program called The Sleep Lady Shufflehas proven effective for hundreds of families. West has spent more than a decade successfully teaching parents how to help their children sleep soundly and independently through the night. She provides specific, achievable guidelines that work, while also taking into account the values, lifestyles, and parenting styles unique to each family. Most parents who adopt The Sleep Lady Shuffle see dramatic improvements in a few weeks, if not days. Good Night, Sleep Tight contains age-specific chapters from birth through five years old, in which West succinctly outlines what action to take; discusses important developmental changes; provides sample waking, feeding, and napping schedules; advises how to use The Sleep Lady Shuffle; and lays out common problems and solutions. Included throughout are real-life testimonies and anecdotes from parents West has assisted. Good Night, Sleep Tight also discusses co-sleeping, bedtime strategies for twins and siblings, and dealing with nightmares and illnesses. West even offers tips on how to minimize sleep disruption when families travel or experience other breaks in routine. Essential reading for any tired parent, or any expectant parent who wants to avoid the pitfalls of sleeplessness, Good Night, Sleep Tight offers a practical, gentle, easy-to-follow remedy that will work for all families in need of nights of peaceful slumber.

A good mix of sleep strategies.......2007-09-21
I first read Babywise, which a friend had given me. We started on a flexible schedule with feedings about every three hours. This was very helpful and a good start, but after reading some negative things about the book, I wanted to read some others. There are so many different theories on sleeping and feeding! I found Good Night, Sleep Tight and really liked it because it seemed to be a good mix of the different theories. There are a few main components that almost every sleep book I've read recommends, including having a bedtime routine, putting the baby down drowsy but awake, and creating a sleep friendly environment. This book begins with those basic components and gives you additional information and resources. I like that it gives some guidance as to what a typical schedule might be like, what you might expect, etc. It's also nice to see that what you're experiencing is very normal and that there are things you can do about it. My son started sleeping through the night at about 3 months. Naps are still a little difficult to settle him down for and I just pulled the book out again to get some advice on making naps a little easier. There is a whole section of suggestions. I don't think this is a cry it out book. She creates a middle ground between letting your baby cry and responding immediately. Although we didn't need to do the "Sleep Lady Shuffle" she suggests, so I can't comment on that. You will drive yourself crazy trying to find the "right" way to do things. Read what you can and do what feels right.
not worth it.......2007-08-25
This is essentially a "cry it out" book, except she recommends staying in the room for the crying part. There is no new information I could find. So utterly not worth it. It seems that this book was written to generate sales for her individual consultation service. If you've read "No Cry Sleep Solution" and "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" you do not need this book. Just meet the ideas in the middle and realize there will be some uncomfortable nights, then spend your money on something worthwhile.
Not much help for younger babies.......2007-08-24
We bought this book when our daughter was four months old (and had it shipped overnight--we were getting desperate!). It wasn't very helpful, as it turns out. Her advice for babies this age essentially boils down to letting them cry it out, but staying in the room with them. Not particularly helpful, especially since our daughter was more hysterical when we stayed in the room with her than when we left her alone. We ended up doing more of a Ferber approach. No fun for anyone involved, but it worked.
When she was seven months old, we went on a trip, and her sleep schedule got all messed up. We got the book out again, and this time read the chapter on six- to seven-month-olds. This is the age where West introduces her Sleep Lady Shuffle. The idea is that you stay near their crib and "shh-shh-shh" at them, pat their back, whatever. It's a pretty good approach, and it seems to work for our older baby. So if you're looking for advice on how to get your six-month-old to sleep, you'll probably get some good information here. If your baby is three months old, get another book.
It's okay.......2007-08-21
I needed something to tell me how much my baby should be sleeping and to give some direction on how to help that happen. If you want to or need to impose a schedule on your baby, this book is the least dogmatic I've read. It's also okay if what you want is some general baby sleep information.
Saved our sanity!.......2007-08-01
My daughter is what Kim West calls "an alert baby," much like one of her daughters was. Which is a euphemism for "the child doesn't want to sleep -- ever." By the time my daughter was eight months old (keeping in mind that I'd returned to work when she was 10 weeks old), I would have paid thousands of dollars for some means of getting her (and us!) to sleep. We read a review of "Good Night, Sleep Tight" and not only bought it but also paid for a phone consultation with Ms. West. That thorough evaluation, combined with what we'd read in the book, turned our daughter into a sleeper within three nights!! I couldn't believe it -- I kept checking to make sure she was still breathing. Among the invaluable tips we learned was that for our alert non-sleeper, the nightlight was a detriment to her falling back asleep; she'd start looking around and seeing toys and then would want to play. And turning off the nightlight was just one of many changes we made that worked for our daughter. Today, she still has bouts of sleep disruption and when she does, the first thing I do is pull out "Good Night, Sleep Tight," which we keep in a handy place -- obviously, I cannot recommend this book enough!

Deceptive Title.......2007-07-14
If you've just been hit with the revelation of your husband's "secret life", this book may not help. The title is deceptive because it implies that you will be healed after reading it.(Healing is God's job!) I was frustrated with the first few chapters, because it dealt with man's sexuality rather than the wife's torment. My raw agony was nowhere to be found within the pages of this book. However, this book was still useful. Overall, the book was all right.
There were nuggets of practical advice and hope. I liked the way views from both wives and husbands were presented. The most important thing I learned was that it is possible for a husband to love his wife and still sin against her. I don't understand it or like it, but I believe it and this book does a good job of introducing that concept. I also learned a lot about the importance of a Christian wife's role of encouraging her husband spiritually. I liked Fred's description about how Brenda influenced him by lovingly refusing to accept anything less than righteousness from him. I also liked Brenda's attitude that her destiny is forever entwined with Fred's and that when one sins it pollutes the stream for both of them.
If you are in deep pain right now, understand that healing will take lots of time and lots of God. This book won't fix you or your marriage, but it can give you some insight and encouragement. For biblical healing, I strongly recommend "Lord Heal My Hurts" by Kay Arthur.
Great book.......2007-06-29
I'm half-way through it. So far, it is a really great book w/ super insight. I highly recommend it. Best description for this book would be "lifechanging".
WHAT A GREAT BOOK! .......2007-02-23
This is an outstanding book. This addresses a very real problem and does it in terms we can all understand. It is an easy read and includes enough actual stories from actual people to cross the bounds of "it could never happen to us" Thanks Fred and Brenda!
You are NOT alone!.......2006-09-02
This book has helped me realize that I am not alone and that it is completely NORMAL to have these types of feelings.
Women share their personal stories and feelings in this book. Wisdom is handed out to help you make your own decisions.
One word of caution...personally, it kind of fueled my fire in a way...not sure how to describe it, but it almost gave me more bullets against my husband.
It's not a feel good read by any means, but it is a should read.
Realistic and helpful steps to restoration.......2006-08-27
Understanding why your spouse was stupid enough to become entangled in the porno web is one thing; forgiving him and restoring your relationship is quite another. This book lays it all bare and gives practical counsel that, if followed, will help a woman wanting to accomplish that end.
Some reviewers of this book expressed disappointment with the focus on pornography and masterbation, but I bought it anyway. Adultery begins in the mind. With easy access to internet pornography, thoughts are turned into images. Sexual obsessions have mental, spiritual, and emotional ramifications. Each has to be acknowledged and addressed. This means going back to where it begins. Cut off a weed at its roots and it will die. This is a good book for women who are truly ready to forgive.

Productive Reminders.......2007-09-04
I loved this little book and I think it's very useful as a wake-up call on a daily basis. Intellectually the book's thesis that tryint to read between the lines is futile in a dating context is very simple - however since this acvtivity is emotionally fraught one is likely to selectively ignore such sensible advice. I think this rhyme heps as well!
A man who doesn't call
Or simply finds he can't

Greatest Book For All Women!! A Must Read!!.......2007-08-31
As a former private investigator, when I purchased this book, I was a bit curious as to what this book would say. When I read it, and saw just how brutally honest and straight forward Greg was in telling women the TRUTH about everything, I was plesantly surprised and appreciative that a MAN would dare to be that bold and that honest about things. I urge any teenager, woman or man to read this book for any pre-dating, divorce or widowed circumstance if they are thinking of entering the dating world. Greg said things that I myself have been telling clients in domestic cases for years!!
wake up girls.......2007-08-23
I think Greg offers very good advice in this book. Girls, ditch those losers! You deserve better and Greg will help you see the truth about those obnoxious, careless, what about me guys out there. Read this if you are having doubts about your man or always end up with guys that are losers. Greg sheds light on behavior and what it means.
your daily wake up call.......2007-07-06
This book was funny in some ways and serious in others. It certainly makes you think about stuff that is for sure. I bought it just to see what it was about and some of the sayings caught my attention. A great book if you have just broken up in a relationship or thinking of breaking up...it will make you think.
Great Book For Singles!!.......2007-06-02
I have really enjoyed reading this book. I read alittle each night especially if I am alittle down at the end of the day or a man has said something that has ticked me off, then I read a few pages and it all makes sense as to why he said what he said! LOL I would recommend this book to every woman that has been through a bad break up or divorce especially DIVORCE!! I love Greg for writing this I could hug him! It is a real pick me up or it is a real wake up call for a woman that could be in the dark as to why men are the way they are or as to why we act like we do with men, it's because He's Just Not That Into You! LOL

The Poetry of Presence.......2007-03-17
This is what I'm talking about...
There are things you can't reach. But
you can reach out to them, and all day long.
The wind, the bird flying away. The idea of God.
And it can keep you as busy as anything else, and happier.
From Where Does the Temple Begin, Where Does It End?
Certainly, Mary Oliver knows this haiku by Zen poet, Basho?
The temple bell stops
but I still hear the sound coming
out of the flowers.
What poem could you write?
Connections woven in language.......2006-02-19
Mary Oliver not only observes the natural world around here but finds language to express its many moods and meanings, linking them to her outer and inner life. The "simple" cadences of her lines carry a hidden depth to them. Well worth reading and meditating upon.

Awesome Find!.......2007-09-14
On first view (size and inside design) I was not impressed!
I took a few minutes to review the pages and I was sold! I took the book home and dove right into the exercises that span 6 types of activities! My son, who wants to be a designer @ 16, completed some of the projects until midnight!
I love this book, the breakdown of the projects in the back and the interviews inspire even rookie designers and reignite the fire of the design practitioner. It is a breakdown of the the elements of creativity, including writing projects, design, writing, and problem solving!
Enjoy!
This great book to kick-start creative mind........2007-07-11
I love this book it was full of great ideas, althought some of ideas were recycled a couple of times. This is great book for anyone creative field or whom is serious about creative hobby.
The Copywriters and the Designers are Happy.......2007-06-14
Some of the creative exercise books out there are kind of....well, lame. This one isn't. It's got its share of silliness, but the exercises in this book really get the right-brain working. For most, you don't need anything more than pen, paper, and imagination. A handful of the exercises call for items that you can find around the house or office.
Although they aren't necessarily designed with a team in mind, it's easy to adapt the exercises for a group. Plus, the range of exercises makes the copywriters and the designers happy. My group, a corporate creative team, frequently pulls from this book for our weekly creative stretch. Everyone usually has a good laugh at the end results.
Basically a rip off of a book written in 1999 called 50 Creative Exercises.......2007-04-28
I didn't find anything original in this book. It seems to be a rip off of a series of books written by Dr. Nicholas in the 1990s on Creativity - called 50 Creative Exercises.
Geared toward designers, but great for ANY creative mind!.......2007-04-22
It is certainly what it says! I started tabbing all the exercises that I especially wanted to try right away. Well, let's just say the book looks like it's growing some very colorful hair with all tabs sticking out of it! A lot of them that struck me initially seemed to be photography challenges, but I guess that makes sense since that is one of the things I'm really hoping to improve on this year.
It addition to the exercises, they also have numerous short interviews with some leading designers across a spectrum of website, logo, promotions, illustration, animation, etc. In these, I found numerous ideas and concepts to ponder, some of which I will be sharing with you here in the coming weeks.
Although this book is certainly not specifically geared towards scrapbookers, I think any serious 'creative' would find great value in this book.

The Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense. Sound like something out of the X-Files? Well, it's one better; it's Hellboy, the world's greatest paranormal investigator. A mysteriously conjured demon, he's essentially a big red guy who goes looking for trouble. The catch is that he's not really the best investigator; let's face it, he's no Agent Mulder. But Wake the Devil always manages to maintain its creepy edge, in no small part due to Mignola's art, which may seem familiar. He did the set designs for Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula.
Book Description
A murder in a New York wax museum and a missing corpse lead Hellboy into ancient Romanian castles on the trail of a sleeping legend: the original nobleman vampire. Nazi scientists prepare for the return of their occult master and the end of the world, and Hellboy confronts his purpose on earth.

Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-03
Some good, old fashioned monster hunting. A death in New York leads to a vampire in Romania, the possible offspring of something a lot worse.
The team gets a new member when a homunculus is discovered, and finally, have to deal with that witchy-poo Baba Yaga and some other strangeness.
More top notch Hellboy goodness.
Way Better Than "Seed of Destruction".......2007-07-21
Wake The Devil is better than its predecessor, "Seed of Destruction". The writing is far more cohesive, entertaining, and flows without the hiccups that plagued "Seed".
Rasputin returns with another presence from beyond calling the shots, but Mignola also works in a few more historical or legendary figures, including Dracula (or a stand-in for him), Baba Yaga and the Furies, as well as introducing new characters like the goddess Hecate, the evil industrialist Roderick Zinco, the "brain in a jar" mad scientist Herman Von Klempt and several other well-characterized Nazis. Mignola also adds a touch more overt humor to this volume along with some terrific banter and a sense of history between Hellboy and his B.P.R.D. compatriots, hints more at Hellboy's mysterious destiny without veering into "chosen one" cliches and basically maintains and even widens the eclectic mix of genre influences while seeming more focused and sharper in general. There's nothing really wrong with Seed of Destruction, but Wake The Devil is really where Hellboy comes together.
One of the things that really struck me about Wake The Devil was that the characters seemed to be having more fun, and that comes across in some ways as Mignola having more fun as well. Flying solo without Byrne as scripter and obviously bolstered by the success of his first Hellboy effort, Mignola seems more confident of himself, more sure that Hellboy is what he wants it to be, and that confidence comes across not just in a more complicated backstory for the villains but in a general sense of fun in the characters. There's even some outright slapstick, such as Hellboy's jetpack failing or Abe's sardonic "Hellboy's blowing things up again" when Castle Giurescu goes up.
What I really liked, though, was a slight shift in the dialogue. Though it's not so noticeable as to be jarring, Mignola does sort of get away from the more bombastic and Silver Age elements of Byrne's scripting in this volume, replacing it with a more wry tone that veers from scholarly to regular guy with ease. Quotes from William Blake and pompous, insane rants by Rasputin exist alongside good Hollywood banter like Hellboy heading off to Romania in search of good food with the Bendis-like turn of phrase "paprika chicken, baby!" Hellboy in particular benefits from an infusion of a little more humor and confidence, trash-talking his opponents and muttering to himself in self-deprecating tones when he gets himself into trouble. Of course, it's not just in the humor that the dialogue shines, as Mignola has a gift for the villainous turn of phrase, as when Nazi villainess Ilsa utters the memorable bon mot "Oh, I would cut open the world to see it bleed." Now that's what I call a bad guy line of dialogue!
Leaving aside the manner of the storytelling in terms of dialogue, Wake The Devil also benefits from a complexity of design. The plot that Hellboy goes out in search of is tracking down a vampire who may or may not be the legendary Dracula. In the course of this investigation, he runs afoul of his old nemesis Rasputin, who is tied in with an Elder God-like "Dragon" and a trio of Nazis who originally helped raise Hellboy, as well as a mad scientist villain that Hellboy had a run-in with in a previous short story. What's amazing isn't just that all of these villains (a good half dozen in all) are so interesting and well-fleshed-out on their own, but that Mignola's tale links them all, from vampire to Nazi to mad monk to mad goddess to Russian witch/goddess, and it all just flows so well together. There's a sense of a tapestry behind all of this, and if Mignola hadn't figured out by this point just what Hellboy's actual destiny was and how he tied into all of this, well, his script certainly had this reader fooled on that score.
The only aspect of Wake The Devil that isn't an improvement on Seed of Destruction is the artwork, because it would have been very difficult to improve upon. Mignola does open the book up a little, shedding some sunlight and open spaces on the B.P.R.D. and getting them out of creaky mansions and swamps exclusively, but he maintains the mood with European castles, forgotten labs and haunted forests too. The change in colorists, from Chiarello and Hollingsworth to Sinclair, is also a slight change but can't really be called an improvement, as all are expert colorists and Sinclair's work here is excellent, perhaps a little stronger on the brighter, sunlit aspects than Hollingsworth or Chiarello might have been but otherwise just a continuation of the strong coloring we've already seen. In addition, Mignola has some spectacularly choreographed action scenes in Wake The Devil. Probably the most memorable is Hellboy's brief but powerful showdown with Giurescu, but his fight with Hecate or the Furies is equally impressive.
Hellbot Vol 2.......2007-02-08
This is definitely awesome. Continuing Mignola's story of the big red devil with a giant stone fist, volume two explores deeper into the mythos of Hellboy. A must read.
Excelente! dibujo, historia, narrativa........2007-02-07
Cualquier tomo de Hellboy es garantia de excelencia en todos los sentidos, si lo compras te aseguro que no te arrepentiras y vas a querer tener toda la coleccion.
Simply awesome.......2004-09-26
This second Hellboy mini-series from Dark Horse found Hellboy creator Mike Mignola taking on sole writing duties (legendary X-Men and Fantastic Four scribe John Byrne took script writing credit for Seed of Destruction) as well as art, and he surprisingly managed to craft a slightly better book than Seed of Destruction. The story revolves around our favorite paranormal investigator taking on vampires, while all the while Ilsa and Kroenen await the return of Rasputin and the end of the world: something which Hellboy is the key to. Full of creepy atmosphere, stylish storytelling, gothic art, and loaded with revelations and a few surprises, Wake the Devil reminds us just why comic books are so fun to read. If you're one of the many who saw the recent film and dug it, you should really check out every Hellboy graphic novel you can get your hands on.

Superb resource book.......2007-05-03
I had this series of books before - loaned them out at work and never got them back (go figure!). Happy to have found them again here.
Even company money could be spent more effectively.......2003-06-17
For any medium to advanced trainer, group leader, or presenter, this book does not raise any new methods of improving audience participation. In fact, the "cheese" factor is enough to choke even the most discriminating mouse.
Having said that, if you're a beginner with little to no background in or exposure to group training, then this book may help give you a little head start to realize how to engage an audience through active participation.
It's only because of the potential to aide a beginner that I rated this a 2. Otherwise, it's sitting with a lone star.
Decent.......2001-07-25
I was expecting more. But it certainly lived up to its title. Maybe my expectations were a little to hight.
I have yet to try any of the examples yet, but I am certainly waiting to try.
It's not that great........2000-01-30
This book wasn't that great. There were VERY few ideas that I would use. I wouldn't recommend buying this book.
Great for any Organizational leader!.......1999-01-25
I used a bunch of ideas from this book for my position in a student organization. A definite must for programs on dry material. It never hurts to have an ace up your sleeve, and this book is it!
