Book Description
As winter's hold deepens in the dark days of February, Miami's hotels fill to the bursting point. Cruise ships flock to the busiest port in the world as people desperate for warmer climates board these behemoths of the seas. People with too much time and money fill the clubs. In every other jurisdiction, as its citizens are driven indoors, there is a downturn in crime but not in Miami, as the members of the Miami-Dade Crime Lab can attest.
Stretched to the breaking point, Lieutenant Caine is called to what appears to be a failed international terrorist incident: a botched arms-for-Afghani-heroin exchange. The scene is littered with bodies and blood droplets identified as being from one Abdus Sattar Pathan. Once before, Pathan managed to escape being charged in the murder of a Federal agent. This time Caine has him. Except Pathan has an iron-clad alibi: he was miles away, on stage doing his magic act. Horatio is convinced that Pathan and the international terrorist known as the Hare are one and the same. Can Caine prove it before the Hare puts his deadly plan into motion?

Okay conclusion to the two-parter.......2007-04-03
Cortez's two-part CSI:Miami story, concluding in "Harm for the Holidays: Heart Attack" is very true to the TV series and the characters in it. That is to say, it's an engrossing read, but strays as far from technical reality as does the TV series. If you like "good guys vs terrorists" stories, you should get both books and read them -- you won't be disappointed.
Good but a little predictable.......2007-03-21
This is yet another good CSI:Miami book. It kept my attention from beginning to end, although I figured out the "big twist" well before it was revealed. That didn't ruin the enjoyment of the book, however. It is the second book in a two-book storyline, but I think either one can be read as a stand-alone book (especially this one).

Book Description
Christmas in Miami¿the city is wrapped in its own unique festive cheer, and countless children breathlessly await the arrival of Santa Claus. Except this year there are hundreds of Santas. Miami has been invaded by the Red Menace. An annual gathering of hundreds of red-suited, jolly old fat men and women swarm over the city, comical and annoying, until one of them turns up dead.
In what should be a time of goodwill to all the Miami-Dade Crime Lab finds that what appears to be the simplest of crimes hides darker motives. Who would want to kill Santa? Who would go to such lengths to conceal the identity of a victim that they would decapitate him and remove both his hands? And how does a simple convenience store robbery suddenly spiral into an international incident of kidnapping and murder?

True to the show.......2007-01-15
Mr. Cortez has kept the characters, plot, and plot development true to the TV series. If the book were an episode, I would consider it at or slightly above the average episode.
Book Description
** COMPLETELY UNAUTHORIZED **
This selection of smart, accessible essays covers CSI's cutting-edge science, intriguing mysteries, and engaging personal dynamics. Essays from experts in the field illuminate such processes as DNA testing, ballistics, crime-scene photography, and autopsy procedure. With pieces that focus on the leads' varying appeals, the history of forensics on television, the show's treatment of alternate sexualities, and whether the incredible attention to detail actually gives criminals an advantage, this anthology provides an in-depth investigation that enriches the viewing experience.
Customer Reviews:
From one of the chapter authors.......2006-10-21
This book contains a variety of viewpoints regarding the CSI series, some of the differences between "real life crime scene investigation" and that on television, and the CSI series' impact on our lives. The second chapter, titled "The CSI Effect" was written by one of the original CSIs (yours truly), who worked at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department when CSI creator Anthony Zuiker was riding with Crime Scene Analysts (CSI) to conduct research for his pilot and initial series episodes.
A three-part definition and detailed description is provided for the "CSI Effect". One part of the chapter, "Why Cops, Prosecutors, and Real CSIs Hate the World's Most Popular TV Show" asks and answers some very candid questions directed to law enforcement professionals.
If you love CSI, this book is definitely for you. If you don't like the shows, I dare you to read the book. I'm sure you'll come away with a different perspective.

FLORIDA GETAWAY
Thomas Lessor left Las Vegas for Miami to get away from it all -- in fact, he felt certain he was going to get away with murder. But he was wrong, and the Las Vegas PD soon contacted Miami with a warrant for his arrest.
Hot on his trail, the Miami CSIs are called to the scene of his abandoned car...a car that's been abandoned in spirit but not in body. And on a pleasant and secluded Miami beach, a young couple is about to make a gruesome discovery....
Customer Reviews:
Reads just like an episode on TV.......2007-01-15
I was glad that I bought this because CSI Miami is my very favorite show on TV right now. I love A&E right now because they play episodes randomly throughout the day and every evening. I really thought this book read very much like the episodes play on TV. The author even made sure to mention Horatio's sunglasses, which he takes off and puts on at least five times per episode.
I generally liked most of this book. It was a little strange to read all of the swearing and foul language because it is censored on TV, but I suppose that if the show were on HBO or whatever, it would be perfectly normal. It is evident that Max Collins did a good deal of research and collaboration, because the characters sounded and behaved exactly as they would on the show, and he didn't take any liberties or try to compromise the characters simply because it is his original story. I appreciated that.
myserious.......2005-01-19
The book CSI Miami, Florida Getaway, is a thrilling murder mystery. When a murder escapes Las Vegas and then finds him self buried in the Miami Beach dead, you know the story is going to be exciting. Max Allan Collins made this story to capture the adventures side of his readers. When you find your self in the Miami heat, remember the book you never wanted to let go of.
Miami Crime Puzzler.......2004-12-23
I love the CSI: Miami TV series, and was thrilled to see it in novel form! This is a fine book and a fine mystery. Max Lucado is a pretty accomplished mystery writer himself. I could not believe all that Lucado has done as described in the author's bio at the end of the book.
The story is about a weathly hotelier who has almost surely murdered his mistress/girlfriend. He is slipping through Gil Grissom's fingers. Gil Grissom? Wait a minute, I thought this was CSI Miami. Yes, it is somewhat of a crossover book. There is more than one murder. Interesting characters include a sexy female Cuban nightclub singer, the wife and stepson of the hotelier, and three aged, retired ex-mobsters from Jersey.
My only complaint is that the CSI team characters talk in the same clipped, stilted dialouge as the TV shows. I thought the purpose of a novel was to bring more depth to the characters, to expand their TV profiles.
All in all, an excellent read for CSI/Mystery/Crime lovers.
Good for a Spinoff!.......2004-03-21
Even as a pure C.S.I. Las Vegas fan, I picked up this book for a quick read. I've never really enjoyed watching the Miami series, but to my pleasure I enjoyed this book immensely. However at the end, I felt that there was really no resolution to the various aspects of the book. It really gets good, and then all of a sudden BAM, its at the end. You're left with many questions. On the whole, I enjoyed meeting the Miami cast in print, and now may enjoy watching C.S.I. Miami, having a bit more background information on the cast.
Enjoyable CSI Mystery.......2004-03-17
Gil Grissom was furious that his forensic evidence had been thrown out in court. If Greg Sanders hadn't been on vacation when the evidence was processed there would be no question that Thomas Lessor, a Boyle Hotels executive, would even now be in jail awaiting his sentencing. As it was, Grissom had to watch Lessor fly away, effectively getting away with the murder of Erica Hardy, his mistress, for the time being. However, a short time later, Grissom had the evidence that he needed to bring Lessor back to Las Vegas so they called the Miami-Dade police.
Lieutenant Horatio Caine was at a murder scene when Catherine Willows called to ask him to go pick up Lessor. A limousine chauffer was tied up with duct tape and left in the trunk, where he asphyxiated. Leaving a few members of his crew at the crime scene, Horatio continued to The Conquistador, where Lessor was supposed to be staying. Problem was, Lessor never showed up from the airport. Horatio had a sinking feeling that Lessor and his chauffer were linked. He had proof when they found the remains of Lessor's body, buried in garbage bags on a beach. Now Horatio was left with two bodies, an ambitious lounge singer with Mob connections, and three aging hitmen - all he had to do was connect the dots....
This is the first book that Max Allan Collins has written with the CSI: Miami team, although he has written several with the CSI: Las Vegas team. Although I did not feel that it was as good as the others he has written, it was still very well written and highly entertaining. It was a bit longer and more drawn out than the other stories, which read just like a TV episode would, and I kept trying to map out how they would cover all of the information in one episode and they simply couldn't. I was also a bit disappointed that all of the action focused on Horatio and that his team didn't play into it a bit more, but the TV show can get like that a bit too. Also, I felt that, for being so drawn out, it sure ended abruptly. I would have liked to see a tighter middle section of the plot and a smoother ending, but those are my only real complaints as, on the whole, it is fast paced, very descriptive and an interesting read. If you are a CSI fan and love to read, then this is a great book for you!

Book Description
The Miami Dade Crime Lab is called in to examine the body of a young woman who has washed ashore on an island in Florida Bay. Lieutenant Horatio Caine is quick to identify the probable murder weapon: a shark dart used by the navy as part of an experimental program to kill enemy divers. However, during the autopsy, Doctor Alexx Woods finds that the true cause of death was drowning; the dart was used postmortem.
When another mangled body of a woman is discovered, Caine begins to suspect the worst. The unusual and violent nature of the crimes bears all the hallmarks of an organized serial killer -- sexual predation, a great deal of preparation and a disturbingly distorted worldview. Now, the lieutenant and his team must race to piece together all the clues to stop the murderer before they can strike again.
Customer Reviews:
A fast-paced story.......2007-05-13
This is the first book of the CSI series that I have read. This story immediately hooked me in the first few paragraphs. While the character development of the CSI team and the suspects is really good, sometimes the details around the actual work of the investigators was very technical. However, the detailed aspects added to the whole story development. I recommend this book because it is a fun and fast mystery with great characters.
lame writing, but good mystery.......2006-08-28
the mystery is about a wierd serial killer with an obsession with water, latex, and a cheesy old horror movie.
sounds wierd, and it is. but serial murderers aren't exactly normal. the mystery works. but writing it down ruins it.
as far as i can tell, all the flaws in the writing are because the book was trying to mimic a tv show. the author tries to make the dialogue into witty banter, but fails miserably, so everything anyone says just sounds very lame.
and the book is full of nauseatingly boring lectures. they find latex under a victim's fingernail, so we get treated to a huge speech about rubber and the proteins latex is made of. then we hear about latex again when a witness is allergic to it. i'm sick of latex. but that wasn't all they talked about. i had to skip way too many boring, useless lectures. now, i'm a big fan of csi. and i like learnning. but the information you get by watching csi isn't in fifteen minute long lectures about random topics like latex. it's about stuff that actually pertains to the case, and takes up about a couple sentences, not two pages.
but if you like reading bad novels and don't care whether the writing's good, then you'll like the mystery. it's not amazing, but it's good enough to keep you turning the pages. it was good enough to keep me reading, even through the terrible writing.
What a Great Page Turner I really Couldn't Put It Down!!.......2006-08-20
I really enjoyed the book. Some of the details left me not wanting to eat sometimes because the material was a little to grafic for my taste but then again that is what CSI is all about. However, the graffics not with standing I still enjoyed the book tremendously and honestly was very surprised at the end.

Mistakes again..........2005-10-20
First of all, I really like the CSI series, even though I'm a bit concerned about how many spin-offs they'll produce. When I first looked into the novels and graphic novels, I was quite eager, since so much of the things I like about the series are to be found there. Yet, as I went through most of these books, most of them by Collins, I found again and again certain mistakes in the conclusions. As in this one, and not to spoil too much, additional information about an unknown DNA sample - the person is African-American - gets without any reason or explanaition conveniently transferred onto another unknown DNA sample, making a crucial connection. When I read that, I was stopped reading right there, went back in the book to check, then checked it again, but it still didn't add up.
I guess, it's possible that maybe I didn't understand everything right, or skipped these ultimately essential details. If that is so, and someone reads this and knows, please post something here and tell me. Otherwise, mistakes like that ruin the otherwise enjoyable reading experience
Weak book in Collins' CSI series.......2004-09-10
I have become a fan a Collins' CSI books. This one is by far the weakest of the lot. The plot is extremely far-fetched and not written in a way to make it at all believable. The ending is both predictable and laughable.
I was also disappointed in the character development. What has impressed me with Collins' other CSI books is the way he is able to further develop the characters that the television series has brought to life. He does nothing to add to any of the characters in this book and does little to show the personalities that the television series has developed.
I do recommend reading Collins' other CSI books if you enjoy either of the CSI television shows (or even to read them if you are not a fan of the shows because the books are decent stand-alone reads). But this one can be missed. It does not even come close to living up the standards set in his other books.
one of the best CSI books.......2004-09-08
I think Max Allan Collins has much more a feel of the Miami characters than he does for the Vegas ones. This book is very well written, and is very true to the series.
One of the best books I've read.......2004-07-25
Collins did a great job at capturing each charactors personality. Also he did great at showing how well the charactors worked together.
Good summer read.......2004-06-25
After the drive-by killing of crime boss Kurt Wallace, a war between the many gangs of Miami began to vie for control of the Miami's underworld. Soon each gang becomes a victim to an attack, only to turn around and kill out of revenge, leading to the city becoming a bloodbath. Soon after this all starts, a DEA hotshot, Jeremy Burnett, is wounded and his wife killed in drive-by identical to the murder of Wallace, bringing the Feds into the picture as well. Lieutenant Horatio Caine and his CSI team are trying to solve the mystery behind the Wallace murder because they believe that once they find out who started the gang war, they can bring an end to it. On top of this, this all has to be done before the Governor is forced to bring in the National Guard to stop the gang war.
One thing I like about Collins' CSI books is that they aren't based on a specific episode of CSI (like you find with other novelizations of TV series) but are stand alone books. It was nice being able to relate to the main characters of the book since I am familiar with the show. However, I did get very confused with all the different gangs, their leaders, and who was involved with what that I almost had to start taking notes. Unless an author is generous enough to put in a separate listing of cast of characters, I'm not too thrilled when a book gets like this. Other than that, it was an enjoyable, easy read and well worth putting on a summer reading list.
Average customer rating:
- Great Read!
- Definitely better than the Collins books
- Keep 'em coming!

Book Description
Lieutenant Horatio Caine of the Miami-Dade Crime Lab is called in to investigate a mysterious death at an organic eatery. He finds the victim, waiter Phillip Mulrooney, bent over a stainless steel toilet, his clothing shredded. Great Read!.......2006-11-08
I originally picked this book up as a "cheesy" read for the beach or on an airplane, and I was surprised at how good it was! It really captured the essense of the characters, and while it was technical in places it was very readable and understandable.
Definitely better than the Collins books.......2006-06-28
This book was a lot truer to the television series than the two previous books in the genre. The characters voices were very much in tune with what you see on the screen, and the situation was unique enough to capture your attention, and plausible enough to believe it. The original characters were *people* and not cardboard cutouts. The language flowed smoothly, the settings didn't overpower the story, and the story didn't jerk from place to place to suit the author's timeframe. I for one am eagerly awaiting the next book - something I will NEVER do for Mr. Collins.
Keep 'em coming!.......2006-05-12
This is the first CSI:Miami book I've read; I've watched the TV series often. I was delighted that the author caught the essence of the TV characters. I could hear the voices and phrasing of the actors as I read.
I think the appeal of the CSI series is that we can actually learn something new while we are being entertained. For me, the book version enhances that learning opportunity, without the sometimes gory special effects distractions.
Overall, the book has a lively and interesting plot line, and showed skillful use of technical details. I look forward to more CSI:Miami books by this author.

This author is no Max Allan Collins.......2006-03-03
I am a great fan of the CSI: series TV shows and absolutely love the CSI: books written by Max Allan Collins. Eager to read another CSI: Miami book, I decided to give Donn Cortez a try. This author clearly does not have the feel for the characters and smooth storylines of the TV show. The book was filled with too many technicalities on rocket-building, etc., and is just bogged down with excessively detailed explanations. I am an avid reader, and this has to be one of the worst books I have read in a long time. If you want to read a CSI: book, stick to the ones written by Max Allan Collins!
Book Description
In Miami, the sun is hot and the crime is hotter with this trio of hard-hitting tales of crime scene investigation in the steamy setting of palm trees, bronzed bodies and hot lead. Miami-Dade police Lt. Horatio Caine and his crew of CSIs deal with stray bullets, wayward spouses, and counterfeiters as they examine the clues and bring the guilty to justice.

Great yet small.......2005-01-16
I personaly like this book it just keeps you guessing all the time like all the other CSI books. I say if you like the CSI: Miami CBS show you will like this book.
not quite what I expected; but ok, decent representations .......2004-07-21
This was not quite what I expected; like one of the other ones I have (Thicker Than Blood) but they (i.e., the artists) did a fair job at making the characters look like their human counter parts; especially, in some frames, David Caruso. [Horatio Caine.]
Reads like a "screenplay" version (i.e., very basic). I prefer the novelisations/novelizations by Max Allan Collins.
Comic Book?.......2004-02-06
I was very disappointed when I received this book and found it to be a comic book! I have really enjoyed the other CSI books so this was just a let down right off the bat.
Book Description
When a counterfeiter is killed, Horatio Caine and the Miami criminalists have to prove that when it comes to murder, it doesn't matter who the victim is - the truth must be found.
