5 out of 5 stars Best book for new treasure hunters.......2007-07-21

I am just beginning my hobby with a metal detector. I purchased several books on treasure hunting and this is by far the best. It has a broad range of extremely useful information. By all means start with this book if you too are a beginner. Most of the other books I bought had a lot of fluff. This book has a ton of useful information and guidance.

5 out of 5 stars The metal detectors guide book.......2007-07-06

This book is an invaluable resource for the beginner and even the intermediate detectorist. It has filled me with new ideas of where and how to search for lost valuables and coins. The tidbits on history and archeology were most interesting.

5 out of 5 stars Fun and interesting.......2007-05-20

This book has a lot of information about treasures all over the country. Tells you where to look, how to go about hunting and what equipment you need and what to do when you find your treasures.

3 out of 5 stars The Urban Treasure Hunter.......2006-11-07

I was looking for a book on using a metal detector. This was not it.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Read for New Treasure Hunters.......2005-10-14

I read this book from cover to cover and highly recommend it to anyone new to the hobby of treasure hunting and metal detecting. Chaplan knows his subject well and covers everything from how to get started to what to look out for while hunting and what to do with the objects that one finds.

The author leave no stone (or dirt!) unturned in the process. An excellent, all-around resource on the topic.

Rembrandt and the Golden Age of Dutch Art celebrates an unprecedented era in the history of art. Drawn from the superb collections of Amsterdam's famed Rijksmuseum, the works of art featured here are a testament to the richness and variety of the paintings, prints, and decorative arts produced in the Netherlands in the 17th century. In a unique approach, Ruud Priem leads the viewer through the highlights of the Golden Age, beginning with the artists themselves and their studios, emerging into busy city streets and the bucolic Dutch countryside, and sampling the variety of 17th-century life and culture. Featured are ninety dazzling works by preeminent Dutch artists—Rembrandt van Rijn, Frans Hals, Jacob van Ruisdael, Pieter de Hooch, and Jan Steen, among them.

    5 out of 5 stars The Treasure hunter's gem & mineral guide.......2007-01-11

We found this book to be very informative and of great help in knowing what a gem mine or business has to offer in gem's and minerals. We think that this guide is a must for any one looking for gems to know what they do to help you and offer you . very ,very good .

    1 out of 5 stars Useless.......2006-06-21

Really thin volumes that hardly cover each state included. Big on organization and sections, but what is the use if they say "no information."

Most of the content is museums which can be found on the web or in free state tourism guides. The list of collecting sites (free, or fee) is sorely underdeveloped.

I returned my copy, even though I wont see much $ after shipping charges are deducted from the refund amount. I was just plain insulted by the book. (I got Northeast and Southeast books - sent both back!)

    Do not buy!

1 out of 5 stars Gem and Mineral Guide ( Northeast).......2003-03-09

This book is loaded with useless information. If your looking for someplace to mine gold or gems. This book will not tell you. It does however provide you with guide services contact information. So if your looking for a river or area in your state where you can pan some gold. Don't look in this book! I didn't see anything you can't see in the yellow pages of your local phone book.

    1 out of 5 stars Not a good value........2002-08-13

Very few sites listed, and mostly out-of-date info. Of no use in planning a trip. Save your money.

1 out of 5 stars Fee Dig sites and Museums.......2001-12-13

A real disappointment. I have looked over the "Quadrant" series by Eckart and it was much better. I would recommend a book search for the "Gems and Minerals of America" by Jay Ellis Ransom, it has much more comprehensive information and a lot more than even the "Quadrant" series contains. But of course local "collecting guides" are even better. Contact the clubs in the area you are going to visit and see if they will let you go on one of their field trips or suggest a location. I'm VP of the Montgomery Gem and Mineral Society, we would love to take you on a trip.

Scraper Jones Treasure Hunter is a story of planes, airboats, hurricanes, explosives, and treasure hunting. The book contains no graphic violence, no vulgarity, and no adult situations. The book is a suitable read for mature teens and young adults. The main character, Scraper Jones, is a common household name. His band of fellow treasure hunters is made up of six diversified individuals living on the edge. Professor, a researching genius, has earned millions researching treasure leads for the most successful treasure hunters in the world, now he wants to get out of his lab and join the action. Chickenman Pete, a desert rat, never sleeps under a roof, steals for his keep, and has connections throughout the Desert Southwest that can supply the unique requirements of professional treasure hunters. Hardman, a former hard rock miner, is desert-wise, a worthy foe, and knows the Desert Southwest as well as any man. Patch, a one-eyed ladies-man millionaire society dropout, is interested only in the dangers of the hunt. Marlow, a demolition expert, constantly overestimates the correct amount of high explosives with devastating results. Willie, a mentally handicapped black man, disabled while suffering a beating by a racist cop, struggles to hold his own. These men follow a treasure lead from the Desert Southwest to the eye of hurricane Andrew in the southern bayous of Louisiana. Along the way they encounter twists and turns, unscrupulous underworld drug lords, desert rigors, and hurricane nightmares that would send normal men fleeing for their lives. The author, William S. Butler was born and grew up on a small family farm near Danville Illinois and in 1962 moved to San Diego California. He has roamed the Desert Southwest as a rock hound, prospector, and treasure hunter; earned his living as a technical writer, both writing and instructing others on how to write; and has lived and worked an adventurous life in forty-five different states and twenty-seven foreign countries in the power industry. Mr. Butler is a licensed private pilot, storm chaser, and racecar driver. He served aboard a submarine during the Cuban missile crisis, and was a decorated counter insurgent during the Vietnam War. Mr. Butler has called Las Vegas, Nevada home for the past twenty-five years

This book is a dark horse. Filled to the brim with action. Wry phases, and humor. We read it as a family (all adults), by the fourth chapter we were discussing who should get the parts. Will Smith was a shoo in. A good read. We questioned the 9-12 year age bracket.

5 out of 5 stars The encyclopedia of Washington ghost towns. Their history and how to find them........2007-04-06

For anyone who loves the history and romance of the Wild West, this is an outstanding book that will help you understand more about the where and when of boomtowns in the old and the new west. It was mining that drove development in the western United States, not the cowboy. The products of Northeastern Washington mines were what held together this pioneer country and it helped to sustain development of the west and the United States.
Get lost with this book on a road trip through the dusty corners of Washington State! You will love it.
