Book Description
This new edition of the original Italian classic is the only English edition in print approved by the National Foundation of Carlo Collodi in Tuscany. It is translated from the original Italian text by the well-known American Poet M. L. Rosenthal and printed in Italy on patina paper. The illustrations in this edition are reproductions of paintings created for the centennial of Pinocchio in Tuscany by Roberto Ciabani, celebrated Florentine painter who was designated magnificent master of Florence, Italy for his artistic work. The book was created in Tuscany from the original text which follows the newly released Italian film of Pinocchio. Pinocchio is a story for adults as well, about how to resolve the conflict between contradictory passions: to be a free spirit pulled by unbridled pleasures and fantasies or to become the ideal of a responsible, caring human. Pinocchio is still the most widely published book in the world after the Bible.

Wonderful.......2005-11-10
It is a great classic story. The art-pictures in this book are made by Roberto Ciabani who was designated "Magnificent Master" of Florence and he is a Tuscan. I really loved the pictures in this book and my son loved the story. It is for all ages!!!

Book Description
While Carlo Collodi's internationally revered Pinocchio may not have been the single source of the modernist fascination with puppets and marionettes, the book's appearance on the threshold of the modernist movement heralded a new artistic interest in the making of human likenesses. And the puppets, marionettes, and other forms that figure so vividly and provocatively in modernist and avant-garde drama can, according to Harold Segel, be regarded as Pinocchio's progeny.
Segel argues that the philosophical, social, and artistic proclivities of the modernist movement converged in the discovery of an exciting new relevance in the puppet and marionette. Previously viewed as entertainment for children and fairground audiences, puppets emerged as an integral component of the modernist vision. They became metaphors for human helplessness in the face of powerful forces -- from Eros and the supernatural to history, industrial society, and national myth. Dramatists used them to satirize the tyranny of bourgeois custom and convention, to deflate the arrogance of the powerful, and to breathe new life into a theater that had become tradition-bound and commercialized.
Pinocchio's Progeny offers a broad overview of the uses of these figures in European drama from 1890 to 1935. It considers developments in France, Spain, Italy, Austria, Germany, Sweden, Russia, Poland and Czechoslovakia. In his introduction, Segel reviews the premodernist literary and dramatic treatment of the puppet and marionette from Cervantes' Don Quixote to the turn-of-the- century European cabaret. His epilogue considers the appearance of puppets and marionettes in postmodern European and American drama by examining works by such dramatists as Jean-Claude Van Itallie, Heiner Müller, and Tadeusz Kantor.

This is an amazing book, not to be taken lightly as the cover suggests. The writing displays a certain amount of eloquence that only a brilliant writer like Harold Segal could pull off successfully. Thank you, Harold, for this essential piece of literature.

This book is amazing. It covers every aspect of avant-garde puppetry with a certain amount of eloquence only a brilliant writer could display.

VINTAGE DISNEY IS back! This beautiful Little Golden Books boxed set brings back six of the most popular Disney stories of all time with the original artwork from the 1940s. From Pinocchio, Mother Goose, and Dumbo to Bambi, Scamp, and The Three Little Pigs, these gorgeously illustrated classics will make this boxed set a true gem for fans and collectors alike.

Exactly as advertised.......2007-08-25
It's hard to beat these old classics. Packaged together in a paper slipcase just like a DVD box set, these six Little Golden Books are exact reproductions of titles published in the 1940s and 1950s, with those same sweet stories, charming if somewhat muddy illustrations and, of course, cheap little cardboard covers. But quality issues aside, they're perfect for kids to spread out on the floor, read in bed or, of course, have read to them. One book, "Walt Disney's Mother Goose," is a collection of 32 short nursery rhymes illustrated with comparable scenes from Disney films and cartoons. It includes such rare tales as Bobby Shaftoe, Cross Patch, Deedle Deedle Dumpling, Jumping Joan and Little Betty Blue.
If you love the art in these books you should also check out Walt Disney's Classic Storybook. It's a keepsake hardback with most of these same stories and illustrations (and many more), but it's printed beautifully on quality gloss paper. In it, these illustrations are just stunning, with crisp lines and vivid colors.

Book Description
Are you a Pinocchio Parent?
You may be asking yourself these very questions: What lies, clichés, and half-truths do I tell my children? How do these lies hurt my children and my relationship with them? Clinical psychologist and author Chuck Borsellino claims that our culture condones all sorts of lies -- from "tiny fibs" to calloused misrepresentations. Though well-intentioned in our unintentional lies, we set our children up for failure and disappointment and undercut our credibility.
In the pages of this book, Dr. Chuck Borsellino helps you sort out fact from fiction, intention from outcome. Most important, you'll learn a better way -- a way to help your children live life within the bounds of reality while fully exploring the dreams of their heart.

Pinocchio Parenting.......2007-03-06
Pinocchio Parenting is a wonderful book. The author provides simple, valuable insights and ideas that are easy to apply to real life. The 21 lies that the author points out that we often tell are kids are thought provoking, to say the least. I found that some were "lies" that I actually believed myself. While I didn't agree that all were actually "lies", Borsellino certainly gave me food for thought.
Learning to recognize and teach your kids the truth will be a valuable experience for the entire family. I highly recommend this book to anyone that deals with kids in anyway. It is a wonderful guide.
Has knowledge of psychological & spiritual factors -- you decide how outrageous.......2007-01-21
In the introduction to Pinocchio Parenting, Dr. Borsellino says that "Smart people believe half of what they hear. Really smart people know which half to believe." Remember Gepetto's Pinocchio, the puppet which became a little boy? The more lies he told, the longer his nose grew. Well, the author is suggesting that each time we verbalize certain "outrageous lies," we take on the aspects of this storybook character.
Perhaps we as parents have not looked at Dr. Borsellino's listings as lies, but he presents a strong discourse on each one. He and his wife Jenni wrote How To Raise Totally Awesome Kids, and he has a nationally syndicated television program called At Home Live! with Chuck and Jenni, so his credentials seem to underlie his talking points.
The author lists the 21 different lies in chapter form, relating examples and giving his truths at the end. I have chosen a few of the most familiar chapter headings and revealing truths as enticements for reading this book.
The number 1 lie is: "You can be anything you want to be," with his truth being: "You may not be able to be anything you want to be in life, but you can do the most you can with what you have and do it in a way nobody has ever seen before." Number 5 in the listing is: "It Doesn't Matter Whether You Win or Lose--It's How You Play the Game," with his truth listed as: "Winning isn't everything--but it does matter. People keep score for a reason." Number 11: "It's Not What You Know but Who You Know That Counts," with the truth being: "It's not about what you know--or who you know. It's what you do with what you know that matters most." Number 14: "It Doesn't Matter What You Do in Life, as Long as You're Happy," with the truth listed as: "Happiness isn't a right. It's a by-product of chasing your dreams and living your purpose."
And, in listing a number 22, Dr. Borsellino lists "The Most Damaging Lie of all--The Lie We Tell Ourselves," and that being that we don't matter. His truth statement is: "Your life matters. You're not insignificant, irrelevant, or inadequate. God believes in you. God values you and has a dream for you."
The author has demonstrated his knowledge of psychological factors that play in the perpetuation of clichés that we have heard over the years, but he also shows the spiritual side. I had never thought of these statements as "outrageous lies," when I had repeated some to my own children, so I believe this is a strong assessment. But, I would invite people to read this book and determine for themselves how "outrageous" their statements might have been. - Sharon I. Rideout, Christian Book [...]
Paradoxical references.......2006-11-24
I was very surprised and dissapointed to find so many biblical references in a book with such a title.
A wonderful parenting book.......2006-08-17
Pinocchio Parenting is a truly exceptional book. The author has done extensive studies and provides simple, valuable insights and ideas that you can immediately apply. The 21 lies are profound and simply working on them with your kids will be an awesome experience/exercise. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has kids, teaches kids, or interacts with kids in any way. It is a wonderful playbook!
Book Description
Perella's translation and introductory essay capture the wit, irony, ambiguity, and social satire of the original nineteenth-century text, finally reclaiming Pinocchio for adult readers. It also represents the first time the whole story has appeared in English. This bilingual edition includes over 130 drawings by the original illustrator, Enrico Mazzanti.

The Adventures of Pinocchio .......2007-08-23
This is not a childrens's version at all. For adults who want English on one side of the page and Italian on the other, this is the book for you.
I had purchased it for a child and now will have to find another edition.
Great Read.......2006-11-21
this is the original story of Pinocchio and it is wonderful. Unlike the Disney version, this book takes you through all the adventures of Pinocchio. It is truely a great book, and everyone should have a copy.
Book Description
James Pinocchio wakes up in the back of a New York City taxi with a combination lock piercing his left ear and no idea how it got there, or what the combination is.
The following day, his wealthy parents decide they've had enough, and they send him off to Sleepy Hollow, the famous rehab facility in Upstate New York. While there, Mr. Pinocchio meets all sorts of Fascinating Characters, one more Unbelievable and Amazing than the next, and they challenge him to confront his Deepest, Darkest Fears. The experience leads Mr. Pinocchio to the very edges of despair, but at a critical juncture he finds hope in the arms of a Bad Woman.
The love affair ends tragically, alas, and, like many parts of Mr. Pinocchio's story, stretches credibility to the breaking point, but the harrowing adventure -- which involves a great deal of pain, a smattering of dirty sex, and endless amounts of girlish crying -- eventually leads to Redemption and Healing. But not for Mr. Pinocchio

I wan't my brain cells back.......2007-08-27
It's pathetic that someone wasted their time writing this book to bash A Million Little Pieces. My ex is in prison for meth related crimes and this book has been crucial to his recovery. It has helped our communication, and whether James' story is exaggerated or not, it's one of the best and most helpful books I've ever read and recommend it to everyone. This book however is a complete waste of time and brain cells, and sad that the author makes a living talking trash about others.
Poor Taste.......2007-04-05
Anything that parodies the story of a drug addict is an insensitive callous assault on common human decency. They might have just as well brought in the cripple and cancer patient too. A poorly written waste of time. They should be sued for the cover.
wow........2007-02-09
this has got to be the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. everyone should leaves James Frey alone. a million little pieces was a great book. and just because he embellished doesn't make it any less of a great book.
good for the funny bone.......2006-07-12
if you've read a million little pieces and have a decent sense of humor, you'll be tickled by this book, which is quality parody--better than i expected. i gave it three stars because i did, however, bore of it in the middle (you can only last so long reading james frey's borderline annoying angst multiplied times 1000 with pointlessness--even if it is hilarious--added in) and ended up only skimming through the rest, once in a while stopping on a random page to laugh. still, from the supposed "acclaim" on the first page and back of the book to the author's acknowledgments, it had me chortling aloud in the bookstore (these turned out to be my favorite part of the book).
Laugh Out Loud Funny........2006-05-14
James Pinnochio's hysterical parody of James Frey's "A Million Little Pieces" will cause any reader who followed the Frey controversy to collapse in giggles. Starting with the cover art of a baby's foot covered in ice cream sprinkles, and extending through every Frey nuance, "A Million Little Lies" is just one funny book.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a good laugh.
Book Description
"Thanks to Carlo Collodi, the real creator of Pinocchio, I have for many years been able to live thru the wooden boy. His ability to hold the metaphor in limitless ways has made my drawings, paintings and sculpture of him richer by far. His poor burned feet, his misguided judgment, his vanity about his large nose, his temporary donkey ears all add up to the real sum of his parts. In the end it is his great heart that holds me. I have carried him on my back like landscape since I was six years old. Sixty-four years is a long time to get to know someone, yet his depth and secrets are endless. This book is for the Boy." Pinocchio has long been a significant motif in Jim Dine's work, and this book is his illustrated version of Collodi's original, dark story. Set far from a traditional fairy-tale world, containing as it does the hard realities of the need for food, shelter and other basic measures of daily life, its allegory, satire and wit are the perfect subject for Dine's graphic drawings.

The "real" Pinocchio.......2007-09-02
This is a lovely book. I have purchased several copies for grandchildren. All of Cooper Edens books are great resources for collectors of great illustrators, but can be confusing to small children who can't understand why characters look different on every page.I still buy all of his books for myself and will for my grandchildren when they are older. Pinocchio, because he is wooden is recognizable in all his different renditions. I believe my five year old grandson will love this book as I do. While Disney was a fixture of my childhood and I do want my grandchildren to see these films so different from modern children's fare, it is very important to me that they read at some time the full texts of "Pinocchio"," Peter Pan", "Alice in Wonderland" and of course Grimm, Hans Christian Andersen, Perrault and Aesop. Children will read if they are read to often. I can't wait to share Mark Twain and Dickens with my babies. Now please Mr.Edens, Give us a collection of the wonderful illustrators of "The Waterbabies" with the full text!
good one also for adults.......2007-01-15
I gifted it to a 37 yrs old and he just loved it!
Great pictures. Good quality in general

not received.......2006-03-10
Very disappointed. I ordered this movie for a birthday that has come and gone. I still don't have the movie. I can't seem to find an 800 number to call to check up on it. I sent the seller an email asking for his help in expediting it to me. I never heard anything. Very, very disappointed.
not my favorite.......2005-12-16
this book, although i liked the movie, i didnt really care for the book, because it doesnt interest me as much as the movie, although the characters are the same, and the book is told the same,it just doesnt help me picture the action, like the movie does
Choose another copy.......2005-08-02
I guess I'm partly disappointed with this book because I remembered this story differently....Apparently Pinocchio was not the story of a puppet who longed to be a boy and whose nose grew when he told a lie. Rather, according to this version, he is a puppet who longs to be a boy and turns into a donkey and is swallowed by a whale. The story is wordy and yet you feel like you are reading an abridged version and the illustrations are cheesy. I ordered this specific book because I thought of "Golden Books" as classics. Order another version.
