It doesnt get any better than this! Another "Motorbooks workshop" series book.Its 270 pages in colour that explains in great detail engine management systems.
There is at least one fault,its a bit too technical for some people but its still a great book.
There are plenty of diagrams and photographs throughout.If you are building a street machine or hot rod and want to consider EMS instead of carby engines this book will explain it all.

This book is a great book for overview if you never knew how a car works. It's a great book for basics and has several projects that are glossed over. Its' got lots of great photos.
Not one place does the book talk about Engine Management tuning. Fuel Maps, Ignition maps, what you are looking at, what they mean, basics like adjusting the 2bar spark map for turbo, etc... It talks a lot about history and products but does not cover what it says it does which is the actual engine management tuning. I strongly suggest looking elsewhere for a book if you actually plan on doing some ECM tuning or EMS tuning, this books does not even get you started on how to do it, it has lots of photos and history so you can sound like you know what you are talking about at the next car show, but nothing there to get your hands dirty.

THE BOOK on EMS systems.......2007-07-14
this book is detailed enough in its explanations that a programmer could write his own engine management system. It is good to the point that if you own one of the many project cars mentioned you should buy this book. The author obviously knows a LOT about engine management systems. If you ever worried about the specifics such as proper ignition timing or what the best AFR would be in situation x , this book is the answer. There is no reason to make this review lengthy, the book is very good. I am very picky about my books, I wont even buy one if it's amazon rating is under a 4, and I think this book is great.

I enjoyed the book. I found it very helpful in understanding the elements of an engine management system. I wanted to better understand my car's brain and decide whether I wanted to tinker with its software or not.
My next step is to look into programming software packages and programmer units- thanks to reading this book, I feel good about taking the next step: brain surgery on a supercharged iron beast.
Excellent background primer.......2007-05-19
This was a very thorough introduction to Electronic Fuel Injection basics, starting out with how you would want to design a system to handle those items that used to be handled by a distributor and carburetor. The author also talks about the advantages of EFI systems, typical engine parameters, and even gives formulas for deriving various component sizes, such as injector flow rate. If you are looking for in-depth information about how to tune a specific motor or automobile, this isn't the book for you. The specifics of engine tuning are given in more general terms so that they can be applied to your particular application as you gain knowledge to tackle your first EFI tuning project.

Great reference material.......2007-09-23
I use this book as reference material for my friends and family. My mother-in-law thought that her diverticulitis was a result of "all the vegetables (you) make me eat!" When I sent the book and she read the explanation, she actually did begin eating vegetables! We have more understanding of how to operate our cell phones, tv's and cars than we have understanding of how to operate our own bodies. This is a great way to begin to learn.

I pride myself on medical and nutritional knowledge I've gained through much reading for the past 11 years, but halfway through this book, I've already learned some things I hadn't previously known.
I've read other books from this wonderful doctor, and I'm glad to be adding this one to the list.
Most books that advocate a vegan diet (low fat or otherwise) will never be read by the general public, but I have hope for this one because it really is such an easy read. It's lightly humorous while informative.
Though this book is really only geared towards the digestive system, I have to say I believe this is (at least) one of his best books yet.

Dr. McDougall's program can help your digetive concerns, take you off the antacids and restore you to good health. This can only happen if you follow the program 100%.
Many people may be inclined to adjust the program to their own comfort level and you will be wasting your time.If you are willing to make lifestyle changes you will be restored to good health.It is un-American not to hit the fast food circuit in the view of many people I council so I ask them all how American is it to suffer with heart disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoperosis and the like. Unfortunately I know too many people who would rather follow the quick weight loss diets like Atkins. High protein diets are a problem in America. Look up "deamination" and tell me if that biochemical reality will restore your kidneys and liver to good health.Get the truth, get the book!

I've read many books on diet(based on science)and its effect on health over the years, yet I've still learned a great deal from this book. Lots of eye opening info that's explained in detail yet very clearly written. I believe we desperately need more Dr. McDougall's in the world.

Saved A Few Dollars.......2005-07-25
This book did help me to change a water pump in the lower unit successfully. It was
easy to follow once I idenitified which motor my boat had. Make sure you pay
close attention to the order you remove parts. The pictures are clear, however
they don't always show every small detail, especially when replacing washers, or
bolts. I saved over $200 dollars on one repair by purchasing the book. Looking
forward to saving a few more dollars when something else goes wrong.
More detailed information needed.......2003-06-23
The first thing that I needed this book for was to replace a broken belt. The belt is in a difficult place to get at in the engine. This book does not even address HOW or The STEPS to replace this belt. I was dissapointed; however, the rest of the information in the book looks helful should I need to use it in the future.

I thought this portfolio was put together quite well. The pictures are distinct in their own class. Many would look at this book as a form of pornography, it may have been for it's time. But you have to consider what is printed in todays world. Elmer Batters pictures are pure, honest, and show beautiful women in the way that nudity should be shown

Very little,incomplete, general information. Nothing specific about any of the engines listed. If you need a manual for a service or repair procedure that you have never done, look elsewhere! Also, the type set looks like someone typed it on a "1928 Underwood" typewriter.

I bought this book expecting my 1990 Johnson 88HP engine to be covered. This book does not even list any 88 HP Johnson engines. I am very dissappointed with it.

This book gives the bare minimum of information. The information recieved will direct you to another page/section where that information is incomplete. After all how can someone tuneup an engine without nomenclature/adjustment settings? I was expecting a lot more. Example;See illistration #4........There is no illistration #4!

Not errors.......2007-07-03
The book's French expressions with "de le" are not errors or colloquialisms, just normal French expressions. (You can't use "du" for "de le" when "le" is a direct object.) While Tune Up Your French has an original approach, you can learn correct French usage from it and its idiomatic expressions are fun. The book and cd help you understand the relationship between language and culture through a lot of specific examples.

I am really enjoying reading this book. It would be great to learn French in this way in the beginning i.e. useful, everyday phrases, and then move onto the grammar and language rules after you've mastered key expressions. I am thoroughly enjoying this book and it's made French fun again.

I own a lot of French language aids, and this is my favorite. The CD is fantastic, with lots of good information, easy to understand and very helpful. It may be over the heads of beginners, although my kids have learned a lot just by hearing this in the car.
learning French.......2007-05-07
Gives usful tips on how to improve your French vocabulary, particularly use of idiomatic expressions which are impossible to translate literally in English but widely-used by the French. Last chapter on tricks and "trucs" particularly useful as it reduces complicated problems to a manageable form. I did not find the CD useful as all the speech on there is quite rapid and difficult to understand for a non-French ear. Also it did not seem to relate to the text in any direct way.

This book and its accompanying CD are indispensable for anyone who has had years of reading and writing in French but never actually lived in France and had the experience of daily conversation. I am amazed - the CD taught me in 1 hour more than years of college courses.

The title is misleading. The manual only covers gasoline engines. I have a Volvo diesel sterndrive of the same era and it isn't covered.

The most fully illustrated book on every Looney Tunes cartoon to date.Every single Warner Bros. cartoon from 1930 to 1989.

For the cartoon conisseurs!.......2004-06-22
Here is an illustated guide to the Warner Bros. cartoons commonly known as LOONEY TUNES AND MERRIE MELODIES. Every cartoon was either a Looney Tune or Merrie Melodie. These include both the short subjects and feature films. One of WB's biggest cartoon stars,Bugs Bunny appeared in tens of cartoons in a 25 year period,1940 to 1964. Bugs' first official appearance was in 1940's A WILD HARE. A few earlier cartoons such as PRESTO CHANGE-O,HARE-UM SCARE-UM and ELMER'S CANDID CAMERA(featuring Elmer Fudd) featured a similar-looking prototype. WB's other big stars include Daffy Duck who debuted in or around 1938. The star's name appeared in some titles of his cartoons such as DAFFY DUCK & EGGHEAD,DAFFY DUCK IN HOLLYWOOD and DAFFY DUCK AND THE DINOSAUR. Same thing with Bugs Bunny(BUGS BUNNY AND THE THREE BEARS,BASEBALL BUGS,BUGS BUNNY RIDES AGAIN and BUGS BUNNY GETS THE BOID). Also Elmer Fudd(ELMER'S CANDID CAMERA,ELMER'S PET RABBIT and GOODNIGHT ELMER). Other big stars are Sylvester,a mean-spirited cat always wanting to kill sweet little canary Tweety. Later stars include Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote,Speedy Gonzales and Foghorn Leghorn(Foghorn first appeared in the 40's). There's also Porky Pig who first appeared in the 1935 Merrie Melodie I HAVEN'T GOT A HAT. Porky starred in many black and white Looney Tunes since that cartoon. This book lists synopses for every cartoon produced by WB. It also gives release dates and production credits with directors. I like the awesome concept of the variously colored rings bordering the beginning and end title cards. Over the years,they changed colors. The sizes changed also as did the studio logo(the original light blue changed to red). Some cartoons made between 1937 and 1940 featured multi-colored rings. WB still produces short subject cartoons occasionally but does more feature films today. This book went to press before the 1996 release of SPACE JAM,a semi-animated film starring basketball great Michael Jordan and featuring WB's cartoon stars. I dedicate the book to the memories of longtime director Chuck Jones,actor-director tex Avery(Jones and Avery later went to MGM),Mel Blanc(voice of Bugs Bunny) and actress Bea Benaderet who later appeared on TV's The Beverly Hillbillies and starred on Petticoat Junction.
Great Resource, but the index could be a little better.......2004-03-06
This book is a great resource to read about these classic Warner Brothers cartoons. It would have been nice if the book had included more groupings by characters in the index. The book is 390 pages long, so it seems that they could have included a few extra pages to list all of the appearances of Elmer Fudd or Yosemite Sam.
Finally! Now I know I've seen all the cartoons of one series.......2003-07-02
I have had a quest to see(and act out)all of the cartoons of Wile E. Coyote and Sylvester. But some episodes appeared on cable networks more than others, and others I saw, but missed the episode name. So I purchased this book to find out which cartoons I've actually seen. It describes the episodes with details such as the ACME products in each episode, the methods the villain uses, and other interesting facts. Buy it if you wish to see all the Warner Bros. cartoons of all or one of the characters!
If you love the Looney Tunes, here is your book.......2002-06-19
It's easy to sit back and watch the re-runs of Warner Brothers cartoons and just let them wash over us, but that would ignore all of the work that went into them. We would not get an appreciation of the sheer number of cartoons produced. Luckily Beck and Friedwald were obsessed enough to pull them all together in one volume. Going on a year by year basis, from Bosko cartoons of 1930 to the last gasps of 1969 (and the reawakening in the 80's) the authors provide a landmark reference showing the premiere date, the credits given in the openings, and a thorough synopsis of the action. But of course any reference like this would be an oddity if it was just a listing. But we are provided with two ways to find information - a title index showing the entry (all purpose for grabbing when watching that cartoon), and an index based upon appearances of 15 of the most popular characters. Want to find out when did Marvin the Martian appear? It's here. (1948 - Haredeveil Hare). Wonder how many cartoons starred Daffy Duck - count 'em up. (a whole lot) Just sitting back and reading synopses shows the breadth of jokes and settings that the artists were able to take advantage of. You can also see the repetition that occured when the writers fell into a rut. Just a great book to have on the shelf to pull down when you want and a great guilty pleasure!
