In the series debut, Dearest Dorothy, Are We There Yet?, Dorothy faces a decision that may change her town forever, and her gift for shaking things up comes in handy. In the second book, Dearest Dorothy, Slow Down, You're Wearing Us Out!, the town's irresistible cast of characters is back in full swing as they confront some of the many surprises life sends their way. Customer Reviews:
Fun series.......2007-08-31
I love little town series such as Jan Karon's Mitford or Philip Gulley's Harmony, so when I read about the Dearest Dorothy series, I decided to give them a try. I was not disappointed. The main character really is a dear! She's so spunky and fun loving. There's not a lot of drama or poignancy, just a nice light read.
A Great Find.......2007-06-15
I happened upon this book while looking for a good read. I admit when I saw "Partonville" I wasn't sure what I was in for! I loved it! Great characters, Dorothy is a spunky old women who reminded me of my own spunky grandmothers who both lived to be 98! and Josh is a breath of fresh air. The relationship they develop is wonderful. It's a light read and sure to put you in a good mood. I've shared it with my mother (an avid reader)and she mentioned the following books in the series, I've ordered them and am just finishing book two "Slow down You're Wearing Us Out!". It is just as entertaining as the first. Can't wait to start on book three "Dearest Dorothy, Help! I've Lost Myself!"
Not as expected........2007-01-15
The author of this was toted to be an upcoming and compared too... what. It is well written, but the plot, action and premises of this is yet to "get to me". As to "..... Are we there yet?" I still have yet to figure out what it has to do with the story of the book.
Wonderful Series.......2006-08-24
I came upon this book by accident and I am glad that I did. The characters are wonderfully written and you will find yourself laughing one minute and all of a sudden you will have tears in your eyes. Dorothy is the type of woman that you hope you grow up to be like. Even though she is in her late 80's, she is young at heart and people find her a joy to be around. Not only is the character of Dorothy well written, but the other people in the town are interesting too. After reading this book, I went and bought all the others that are out and look forward to upcoming books. If you have read and enjoyed the "Mitford" books, I know you will enjoy this also.
Dearest Dorothy Books consistently delight.......2006-06-26
I'm eagerly awaiting further volumes in this delightful series.
I love all of them so far.

Customer Reviews:
Decent, but not great.......2007-02-09
There were a few very good stories in the book, such as the night Goldberg won the title, and almost had to beat up the check-in guy at the hotel. But a good majority of the stories are from guys I just didn't care about. I can't get excited about a story from Chavo Gurerrero, Sergeant Slaughter, or The Hurricane. If there were more stories from Superstars in there, it would definitely have been better. As I was skimming through the book, I would find myself only wanting to read stories from the Main Event level guys. The HHH's, Randy Orton, Big Show, Goldberg, Kurt Angle, guys like that. Not enough stories from guys like that, and too many from mid card talent.
Are we laughing yet, no, almost........2007-01-19
This was an enjoyable read, although expected it to be funnier. There are some good stories, but, most are more serious than I expected. I was surprised that so many of the superstars that have moved on from the territory are included, ie. Rico, Christian, etc. Still it is okay for the casual WWE fan.
Entertaining.......2006-04-19
Most of the customer reviewers have something to contribute to why this is a good book in spite of it not being literary. It is funny that one person suggested various places to read this book and he came up with the john, or is that term not PC anymore(hmmmmmm)? Anyway that is exactly where our family copy ended up and it makes for good quick spurts of reading. The stories are entertaining and who would have thought that coming from a spectacle that bills itself as entertainment. I for one read it by jumping around and skipping certain passages or personalities that I find less than entertaining , there is that word again! The segemnts contributed by Chavo Guerrero where he talks about Eddie and their lifes ambition and how wrestling was such huge part of their lives and families lives sums up a concurrent theme running thoughout the book, family and the extended wrestling family. The humor is at times bizarre, the antics sort of wierd but what can you expect with so much time on the road. Most of the experiences are first hand, probably embellished stories but that is part of the fun. It is like the matches themselves, you know they are part(those slams etc, hurt) fake but it is entertaining. Also like the matches it is part soap opera, part drama that is coming from these actor/atheletes. The choice of contributers is strange as there are a few Hall of Famers mixed in with current superstars but certain guys are absent from the fraternity like the main man himself Mr. McMahan, Eddie Guerro, "The Rock", Hulk Hogan, Benoit or Batista. I guess it was a select fraternity chosen for ths project. The little stories are simple reading that will make you laugh and give you a smidgen of insight into these characters, it is afterall very entertaining. Get one to stock in your "private" reading room if you like WWE.
Alright............2005-11-03
This book is good. It has several chapters, diferent stories. Most are very interesting. I really would have liked to have seen Batista and Torrie Wilson in the book. Are We There Yet, doesn't have many descriptive stories of what their busy lives really are like. It isn't the best book from the WWE, but should be read. It's funny and interesting, with cool pictures!
The Truth of the book.......2005-10-26
This book is a "tell all" book. Meaning it exposes the truth and the truth is some wrestlers think twice about signing WWE because of the long travels and never seeing their family. Roddy Piper refers it as the "sickness". if you ever asked your self why wrestlers(sabu) turn down WWE contracts for TNA, this is the reason. Having to fly out the next mornings after every show, with out seeing your family for months, trying to stay faithful to your wife can mentaly bring you down.

Get to know Australia.......2006-11-15
This book is a wonderful way for kids and adults alike to share a journey around Australia. The descriptions and illustrations are wonderful and typical of Alison Lesters style. Anyone planning a long car ride with kids should read this book together.
There is a world out there..........2005-05-11
This is a fantastic book for fostering a child's interest in the world outside their own community. It doesn't matter that the topic is a trip around Australia - it could just as easily be any part of the world. The point is that this is a family of five that goes out and has an adventure together. In doing this, they are spending time together and discovering more about the country they live in.
There is a lot of information about Australia in the story, taken from a kids-eye-level which engages preschoolers to primary age children.
Young Billy's chant 'Are we there yet' is not a yearning for home, rather it's every child's boredom with the seemingly endless driving on a 10,000km+ road trip around a continent. All children can identify with this!
This book is definitely a favourite in our house!
Fantastic book.......2005-04-28
If you and your children are thinking of moving/holidaying in Australia this is the best book to buy. My nephew in the US absolutely loves it, and cant wait for his next trip. Buy it, you cant make a mistake with this one!!!
the varied landscape of Australia for children.......2005-03-01
A trip by a family with three children around Australia takes in wildlife, seacoasts, natural formations, and deserts, different inhabitants, tourist spots, and other points of interest. Most of these are pictured three or four per page. The youngest child, Billy, misses the family pets, and keeps asking when they are going to get home. The family is glad to be eventually home after the lengthy trip; but everyone appreciates what they have seen and learned about the large, diverse continent of Australia. For ages 4-8.

Book Description
Sixteen-year-old Elijah is completely mellow and his 23-year-old brother Danny is completely not, so it's no wonder they can barely tolerate one another. So what better way to repair their broken relationship than to trick them into taking a trip to Italy together? Soon, though, their parents' perfect solution has become Danny and Elijah's nightmare as they're forced to spend countless hours together. But then Elijah meets Julia, and soon the brothers aren't together nearly as much. And when Julia suddenly decides that maybe it's Danny she's really interested in, Danny has a decision to make: does he honor his relationship with the brother he thinks hates him, or does he follow his heart, which sorely needs some repairing of its own?
Customer Reviews:
Are We There Yet?.......2007-06-15
This is the kind of book that makes me want to do something extremely daring and meaningful. Like jumping off something or swimming in my pool with my clothes on (which is what I did...)This book is extremely well written and a poignant, beautiful look at relationships. Danny and Elijah are well developed characters and watching their relationship unfold and grow is lovely. The writer, David Levithan, does a beautiful job using the setting, Italy, to ground the story and provide real-life context. The personal adventures both brothers go on provide a well-written and heartfelt look at insecurities and problems they have. The most basic area of the plot is perdictable, but the plot is not what makes this story special. It's the characters and the development of thier relationship. A wonderful and quick read!
A novel that explores the dynamic between brothers.......2005-08-12
Elijah and Danny are brothers. Elijah is the dreamy brother, who loves to hang out with his friends at boarding school and has endless conversations with strangers. Danny is the elder brother --- hardworking, serious, and completely devoted to his first job in advertising. Elijah thinks of Danny as being a sellout, a phony, and a liar. Danny thinks of Elijah as being a penniless, pothead fallback, with no sense of reality. Both brothers have forgotten the affection they once had for each other.
In an attempt to get the two siblings to communicate again, their parents send them on a tour of Italy. An impressionistic blend of novel, travelogue and poetry, ARE WE THERE YET? is about the brothers' travels through Venice, Florence and Rome. Travel, particularly in a foreign country, has a disorienting quality that makes things seem simultaneously immediate and very faraway. David Levithan captures this paradox, as well as the strange coincidences and people the two brothers encounter along the way. He covers the major sites of each city, along with minor sites important to each character.
Notably, Levithan writes about the remnants of once-thriving Jewish communities in each city. When the brothers visit the infamous Jewish ghetto in Venice, immortalized by Shakespeare's Shylock, they read that 8,000 Italian Jews were sent to concentration camps during the Holocaust. Only eight returned. Later, a guide notes that the Venetian Jewish community now numbers about 600 in a city of approximately 63,000. Doubly an outsider, as an American-Jew in an Italian city filled with some of the most famous Christian artwork in the world, Danny starts to question his place in the world, and a system of values that has left him largely alone.
When he and Elijah fight about a woman Elijah meets at the scene of an accident, the brothers separate, leaving them both truly alone in a foreign country. Slowly each comes to realize that despite the pleasures and autonomy of being alone, "it's good to share a life." Elijah realizes that he isolates himself through casual relationships and does not express his feelings for the people he truly loves. Danny sees that his work has come between him and the people who love him most. The brothers reunite in Rome. They share a serendipitous sunrise at the Parthenon, followed by a tour of all the sites in the movie Roman Holiday, which they are surprised to discover they both love.
In a conversation between Danny and one of his childhood friends, Levithan touches on the difficulty of being brothers, when the process of growing up interferes with the bond they once shared:
"Brothers are not like sisters. They don't call each other every week. Will you be there for him if he needs you? Of course. Should you love him without question? Absolutely. But those are the easy things. Do you make him a large part of your life, an equal to a wife or a best friend? At the beginning, when you're kids, the answer is often yes. But when you get to high school, or older? Do you tell him everything? Do you let him know who you really are? The answer is usually no."
ARE WE THERE YET? not only explores the dynamic of accumulating distance between brothers, but also looks at the way Danny and Elijah begin to close the gap as they gain maturity. The optimism that is part of Levithan's other novels saturates this book, offering the following advice for relationships: "Don't go for normal. Go for happy. Go for what you want it to be instead of settling for what is."
