Customer Reviews:
Behind The First, Garfield's Most Pleasing Treasury........2002-05-09
I was very happy when I purchased the First Garfield Treasury. I was equally pleased when I picked up The Second Garfield Treasury. I loved the idea of Garfield's hilarious Sunday comics released as they had originally been seen in newspapers, in living color. However, at about The Third Garfield Treasury, the logos (which were just coming into the strip) were cut, as well as the very first square in the strip. For example, in the strip where Jon and Odie were going to sneak and surprise Garfield on his birthday, the picture of Jon going sssshhh to Odie was cut out. The rest of the Treasuries went the same way, and I was dissipointed, although I still bought them (color!).
When I saw The Tenth Garfield Treasury at the book star, I was expecting more of the same in terms of the logos and such. No. I was very pleased to buy this book. The logos are there, as well as the first little square. The color is great, and easily show off how much the graphics have improved. The book is well desighned. Garfield's jokes are still very funny, and since the strips are from his latest (and funnier) books, Garfield Throws His Wieght Around, Garfield Life To The Fullest, and Garfield Feeds The Kitty, all Garfield fans will be howling as they read it. It's re-read value is off the charts. I've read this book more than twenty times and I still laugh my head off each time.
Jim Davis is a very talented cartoonist to be able to keep Garfield alive for more then twenty-four years. Garfield is always cute, and very rarely are his strips flat or un-funny (which was the specialty of Peanuts).
Bottom line: The Tenth Garfield Treasury is a must buy for all fans of Garfield or someone who just needs to laugh or kick off a depression. Highley recommended.
Great collection of sunday comics!.......2000-07-25
This treasury has very vibrant color, is smart and funny and falls in line with all the other great Garfield comics. It is amazing how Jim Davis can think up new and great comics after all these years!
Better than the other Treasuries.......2000-03-27
This book has way better graphics than the other treasuries. It also has the logo box and the joke-like first box at the beginning. It even has a great cover. Great book!

Book Description
Garfield in 100% color. What could please Garfield fans more than this special collection of the best of Garfield's Sunday comic excursions? Whether he's taking a bath, avoiding a vitamin, or using Jon's leg for a scratching post, he's the same lovable feline he always was.
Customer Reviews:
The fat and furry feline as he first appeared .......2007-08-07
This is a collection of the first Garfield cartoons, although it is restricted to those that appeared in the Sunday papers. Hence, they are all in color. Followers of the fat and furry feline will note a difference in the appearance of Garfield. In the first few pages, he is a bit fatter than he is in the later pages, his ears are much smaller, he has a perpetual frown and he has larger jowls relative to the overall size of his face. This is all summarized in a before & after page at the end of the book.
However, the laughs are always present as Jim Davis captures the essence of the personality of cats in his cartoons. All cat owners will at some point recognize each one of their cats in the antics of Garfield, whether it is in their insistence on being treated as royalty, informing you of their need for food or executing their right to totally ignore their owners. This book is a must for all fans of Garfield.
See how it all began..........2003-02-27
In 1978, United Feature Syndicate gave the go ahead to Jim Davis to do a cartoon strip about a fat, lazy cat who would rather eat and sleep than do just about anything else. Now, 25 years later, this cat would still rather eat and sleep than do just about anything else. At least some things in this world never change.
Garfield has been making grown-ups and children laugh for almost 25 years. This comic strip is one of the most widely distributed comic strips in the world. And in this book, "The 1st Garfield Treasury" you can see how it all began.
The Garfield of today does not much resemble the Garfield of 1978, looks wise that is. I had forgotten how different he looked back then. But his charm, or lack of it, is still there in all of its glory.
This book takes us through the first two years of Sunday comic strips, from 6/25/78 to 7/13/80. If you grew up with Garfield as a kid, and even if you did not, the "1st Garfield Treasury" will be a wonderful look back at how it all began.
A Historical Treasure Chest Of Classic Laughs........2002-05-19
Certainly, Garfield has evolved over the years into something else. Today, Garfield walks on two legs, isn't even close to how fat he was then (he just has a little gut) and is much meaner to everyone around him. Here, in his very first strips, he's got about six chins, is mean, but still sweet to his owner, less cynical, more cute, and just plain more heartwarming.
Garfield the cat was born in Mama Lioni's Italian Restaraunt, where he showed an instant love for pasta, and, most of all..... LASAGNA! The owner was doing bad bussiness because of his lack of food, and so he sold Garfield to a pet store, where a yound man by the name of Jon Arbuckle walked in and took the kitten (the BIG kitten) home with him. Since then, Garfield has been making us laugh for twenty-four years (so far) but I still don't think he's as good as he was in the beggining, here. This is were all the characters are introduced. Jon, Lyman, idiot dog Odie, and Garfield. In this book he looks like a completely different character. He even walks on four legs, like a real cat. Here he's got more of a attitude of a creature new to the world. He explores the fun of sharpening his claws on the drapes, sharpening his claws on the chair, and eating, sleeping, and kicking Odie off the kitchen table (poor, clueless Odie, he'll never learn). Jon, Odie, and all of the other characters have changed, as well. Odie used to have black ears (although at the end of this book, his ears are brown) and Jon looks less geeky.
The best thing about this book is the color. Bright and vibrant, it's nice to see Garfield as he originally was. The color in the book isn't as good looking as it would later become (see: The Tenth Garfield Treasury) but it's cute.
garfield may be more recognized as he is today, but I've always felt that his older comics are his best. Garfield Treasury is a must buy and keep for all fans of the fat cat. Highley recommended.
Jim Davis needs to give up.......2000-10-19
This cartoon has always been the same : lasagna, Mondays and diets. When I saw how old this book was I couldn't believe it. I thought this stuff was mildly funny when I was 12, but it's just insufferable now. Odie needs to kill Garfield and save us all another 20 years of anguish.
The Original~The Best.......1999-11-07
This is garfield in the beginning. This is the first garfield i took from my public library to read. It is so hilarious, it is the best treasury of them all. ALl fans of the cat should have treasury #1 in hardcover, its soooo great.

Another Good Full Color Adventure For The Fat Cat, Garfield........2002-05-13
I picked up the 7th Garfield treasury a little while ago. I've re-read it many times. It's a very funny book. In this book Garfield does things with snow only possible in a comic strip, goes on a diet, gets his house remodeled by Jon's mom (Uh, oh), attacks the mail man, steals food, eats, and sleeps.
garfield at his best here. Getting into all sorts of mischief but always remembering to "sleep on it," and dingling odie's ball until he loses his mind. the Sunday comics (in beautiful color here) were previously available in black in white in his hilarious mini-books Garfield By Pound (#22), Garfield Keeps His Chins Up (#23), garfield Takes His Licks (#24) and Garfield Hits The Big Time (#25). I think having Garfield in color is the best way to go. It's great that now the books are being released completely in color (go buy the first three books right now!).
The 7th Garfield Treasury is very funny, and despite missing logos (only reason I didn't give it five stars) it's a worthy, funny book to purchase.
Nice cover art, too!
Good job, Garfield!!.......1999-07-18
It was a great book. I don't like it as much as the Simpsons, but Jim Davis did a good job. Garfield made me laugh for a long time. I reccomend it for the avereage Garfield fan and one who has a love of humor. The thing I like about the treasuries are that they are in color. I also have the 1st treasury amd other Garfield books.
Garfield, Odie, and Jon make some laugh out loud scenes.......1999-01-01
Some of the comics I have seen in this book are so funny you will just crack up! The comics go every Sunday and they are in color for about two years! If you like the comic Fox Trot, or any other comic you will love The 7th Garfield Treasury!!!!!

Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty.......2002-12-14
This "Treasury" is a collection of Sunday Garfield comic strips from October 1984 through November 1986.
This treasury collection also shows the final morphing by creator Jim Davis of Garfield and his friends into what we see today in the comic strips.
Yes, Still Missing Logos-But Still Funny........2002-05-19
Garfield is back in living color for the fourth time and it's funny. In this book, Garfield and Odie run away from home and do several other things in color. Garfield makes me laugh all the time and I'd recommend this book, as well as his mini-books and other treasuries. Funny.
Good, good, good.......2000-04-27
This book is a nice anthology of some of Garfield's funniest moments. Really enjoyable
a wonderful book.......1999-11-16
The first time I read this book I was only 8 years old Garfield has done wonderful things for me. He has given me a companion. Even if he is a cat.
A cat's cat.......1999-04-01
Speaking as a writer of humor/satire/parody (most recently, Scratching the'Net: Web Sites for Cats - a book answering the question, "What would the internet look like if it were run by cats?"), what can I say except that Garfield is truly a cat's cat. And it's all here in this excellent collection.

Customer Reviews:
Very Funny, But Still Missing The Logo Boxes!.......2002-05-10
I laughed a lot throughout The Ninth Garfield Treasury, but I wasn't completely satisfied with my purchase. Why? Well, as other reviewers have noted, the logos and very first little box in each strip is missing! This is a problem because I'm sure Jim Davis spends a lot of time thinking up these creative logos and I don't know if he's happy about them being cut out.
Other than that, The Ninth Garfield Treasury is a pretty good buy. I've always thought color was the best way to go with Garfield (check out the funny one that's half black-and-white and half color in this book!), and so I've been purchasing the Treasuries for that one reason. This book is noticeably a lot more bright than the previous few. Red, black, white, green, all sorts of colors show up in this book, and with good detail, too. I think Jim Davis is one of the most talented cartoonists ever (take that, Snoopy!), and his ability to make all his Garfield strips funny and cute (some quite heartwarming, too). I hope Garfield goes for another twenty years (or forty, or sixty!), because I find him constantly inspired. He rarely fails to make me laugh! Keep up the kicking, Garfield!
If you like this book, I'd recommend Garfield Treasury, and The Tenth Garfield Treasury.
What can I say.......1999-11-06
The best yet. it is so funny and I don't just say that because I'm a die-hard garfield fan. it was very well written. I'm telling you if you like garfield you like this book.
The best garfield book..............1999-03-21
Get ready to laugh! This book is the best book of the treasuries!I like this book, because it has lots of color in it.And I agree, this book dosen't have logo boxes like the other books! The bad part of this book is that it is short. But I think Jim Davis should make the tenth treasury!
A very good book, with one exception..........1998-07-12
The only thing I don't like about the Garfield Treasuries (the recent ones anyway) is that they don't show the Logo-boxes or Drop-panels (as shown as in the "mini-books") with the sunday comics! These things might not show up in all comics sections every week (just like some newspapers still have dailies in b/w) but they're still a major part of the strip and I'd love to see the colors of the logo and drop panels in the Tenth Garfield Treasury. Other than that, this is a great book and a must-have for any Garfield fan.

Customer Reviews:
Three times as lazy!.......2004-02-17
The cat who eats from noon to night, and then sleeps the rest of the time, is back for another round of making us laugh.
"The Third Garfield Treasury" contains the Sunday comics of our favorite cat from August 29, 1982, to September 30, 1984.
In this collection of funnies, you will see Garfield get ribbon-tied by little girls, turn Odie into a basketball, romp through the flowers (while they're still at the floral shop), entertain the masses on the fence, and much more.
Although these particular strips are two decades old, they are just as funny today as they were back then.
Garfield Is A Great Cat With A Belly Full Of Laughs!.......2002-05-19
Back in color again. Garfield, Odie, Jon, Liz, Nermal, Lyman, are all back again to serve out a bunch of laughs in thier comic strips from Sunday, bigger, bolder, and in color. This book has all sorts of things going on in Garfield's cat life. He gets nailed to the cieling for a practical joke he played on Jon, and other funny things. The colors in this book are bold, bright, and beautiful, showcasing Garfield nicely.
This is a good book. Only problem, this is where the logos started being cut out. Still a good buy.

FUNNY!!.......2003-01-11
Garfield is still alive and tickling funny bones. I bought this for my seven year old son, who has just discovered Garfield and loves him. The great thing about this book is that I laugh with my son!
Great Compilation, But Missing Logos........2002-05-13
The 5th Garfield Treasury comes recommended from me, but not without a few problems. As most of you know, these more recent treasuries are cutting out the logos and the very first little box. A shame.
But, that aside, this book certainly has its laughs. I laughed a lot and this book (as long as you bring along EVERY other Treasury and the black and white books) is great for long car rides. People think Garfield is only for the little kids, but he's for the adults, too. The whole family can laugh at the fat cat's hilarious mischief and his practical jokes on Jon, his hapless owner. Some of the colored Sunday strips are from "Garfield Rounds Out," which is one of my favorite Garfield books. Having them in color here is a real treat. An especially funny strip in this one i where Garfield pretends to be a bird-bath, and gets more than he bargained for.
The 5th Garfield Treasury is laugh out loud funny! But then again, what Garfield book isn't?
well I liked that book more than anythink.......1999-08-06

Customer Reviews:
Very, Very Funny!.......2002-05-13
I'm a big fan of Garfield. He's my favorite comic strip character and I always pick up his books. The 8th garfield Treasury may not be perfect (where are the logos?) but if I laugh really hard during the book, I'm satisfied that I made a good purchase.
In Garfield's 8th full-color romp through Sunday comics, the big fat glutton visits the Nerd Hall Of Fame, watches Jon's chase with the lawnmover, goes to a pet show, and does his usual: eats, sleeps, and kicks Odie off the table.
The colors in this Treasury are a little darker than some of the previous ones, but the drawings look good, and Garfield's bad, fat attitude is apparent throughout.
All Garfield fans will crawl over this book. A good buy.
this is a good book.......1999-10-22
this book was very funny and is better than a some hairypickle. Garfield is a great comic strip.
Oh My God It Is Funny.......1999-06-12
This is the most hilarious Garfield Treasury yet. I reccomend this book to everyone out there.
Garfield is far better than some hairy pickle!.......1998-08-03
I think Garfield is one of the greatest strips of the modern era, and this book almost lives up to it. My only problem with the Garfield treasuries is the absence of the logo panels. Keep up the good work, Davis; and go back to whence you came, Bodega! Get back to your pickles!!
garfield is such a big hairy pickle.......1998-05-28
i did not like this book. eigth garfield treasure? hell, they should have stopped with number one. lets face it jim davis obviously cannot draw real tuff so he draws big fat dumb cats, stupid weenie dogs, and a big dumb idiot jon who probably eats too many hairy pickles. if i were a parent and concerned about what my child reads then i would definitely not recommend this book to anyone. It is horrible, difficult to read and the pictures just down right stink. oh yeah that nermal character is so stupid also, who ever heard of a cute cat, all cats are ugly hairy and smelly just like pickles. if you want a good book with lots of stupid animals and stupid hairy pickles then you will love this absolutely horrible book
Book Description
The best is here! Garfield's sixth collection of bona fide fun-filled Sunday comics is guaranteed to tickle your fancy and make you roar with delight!
Customer Reviews:
One Great Garfield Book!.......2002-05-13
Yes, yes, yes, yes. I know that the logos are missing from this book and that's why I lowered ratings on the other Treasuries, but since this was the first Treasury I bought, I don't really care. This book is just to funny! Garfield's Christmas, Garfield's New Years, a real great food joke, all sorts of great things are within the pages of this book, in beautiful living color, too.
We all know who Garfield is but some of us haven't really read him, yet. I used to not read him but when I discovered this gorgeous book, I couldn't get enough of him. Him, his owner, Jon, the idiot dog, Odie, all get into some very funny situations. I, like all have the other books, have read this one countless times. I love it. Garfield cracking some of his best jokes in his longer, more colorful, and more energetic Sunday strips. I'd recommend you buy this book now! It's a no regrets one, unless you regret laughing to hard.
Garfield at his BEST!!!.......1999-01-05
Everyones favorite furball is back to annoy Jon and Odie. I laughed out loud reading this book.Any Garfield fans should read it.

It's fun to sit back, read, and take a stroll down memory lane with some of the characters we haven't seen in a while in the recent strips. There's Lyman (Odie's master), Arlene (Garfield's sometime girlfriend), Nermal (the world's cutese kitten), and the veterinarian (the only human being to go out with Jon more than once).
"The Second Garfield Treasury" is a collection of Sunday comic strips from July 1980 through August 1982. In this collection you will see the evolution of the drawing of the characters into what we see today.
So make a pan of lasagna, sit back, and watch everyone's favorite cat gulp it down right before your eyes.
Back Again In Living Color!.......2002-05-19
After the success of The Garfield treasury, a sort of sequel book was inevitable. So, this is The Second Garfield Treasury. While not quite as good as the original, this book dishes up on plenty of laughs, with Garfield kicking, eating and sleeping through his kitty-life (he finds time to get locked in a dog pound, however), but making sure to never forget to joke.
Recommended.
This has got to be the best treasury yet........1999-10-18
