1 out of 5 stars Interlude in Death.......2007-09-22

I was somewhat disappointed in the book because it has less than 100 pages, but it was delivered as promised.

1 out of 5 stars This is a rip off.......2007-09-15

This book has only 88 pages but was portrayed as a novel, rather than the novella that it truly is. I returned it unread so as to get my money back. If Amazon wants to keep their customers happy, they should practice more truth in their book summaries. I was completely disappointed with Amazon as well as with the author (why collude in such a sham?). Better to pay full price at Borders than to go through the hassle of a return.

4 out of 5 stars Good, but short.......2007-09-11

I really love J D Robb and this series but this one was way to short. Still a very good read.

4 out of 5 stars Good Reading.......2007-07-19

From the start, I knew this book was originally part of an anthology from the "Out of this World" series Out of this World. I still say even 88 pages of a JD Robb story is worth the price. In this installment, Eve has been given orders by her Commander to attend an off-planet conference and give a talk on homicide. The conference of course is held at the Olympus Resort, one of Roarke's many properties, and most of the gang from Cop Central are in attendance. Seems the big attraction, one Commander Douglas R. Skinner, a police veteran with a 50-year, spotless record is very interested in Eve, mostly because he wants to take her husband down for all the evil doings he had committed in his former life. When Eve is approached by Commander Skinner, she does what you would expect; she tells him to get lost! So begins the adventure of a settling of scores between the police commander and our favorite lieutenant, going head-to-head to balance the scales of justice. Whether you purchase the book by itself for $2.99 + tax or buy it as part of the "Out of this World" series of stories, it IS worth the money!

Nora Roberts Rocks! what more can I say. Lt. Eve Dallas makes the best protagonist.

5 out of 5 stars I am a history buff and I also liked these books.......2006-07-27

These books are good, even if you are really interested in historical accuracy. The great thing about them is they can really inspire one to do their own research and learn themselves about what was going on during that time. The interactions between the characters and famous historical figures aren't factual, of course, but the major events are accurate. These books really inspired me to do my own research and to visit the cities that the characters inhabit. I really enjoyed reading them, so if you love history, don't let the fiction aspect scare you away, it often serves as a fun backdrop in which real learning can take place.

5 out of 5 stars A MUST READ, MUST BUY!.......2003-05-26

I have only recently been introduced to Bodie Thoene, but I became an instant fan with Vienna Prelude. Some of the twists in the book had my mouth dropping open. In the world of espionage, you don't know who to trust and who not to--these books brought that alive. They are written about a time before even my parents were born, and it's mouth-droolingly interesting to see what could have happened in this totally foreign world. I've never read anything like these and am in the process of buying all of Thoene's books. I'm even buying for my mother and telling everyone else about them. OUTSTANDING READ!

5 out of 5 stars Must Read.......2002-08-22

Vienna Prelude is the first book in an amazing series. The characters are intriguing and Thoene's ability to show the struggle of the Jewish resistance in pre-WWII Europe is incredible.

3 out of 5 stars Am I the only one to criticize these books?.......2002-01-18

I'll say that the books are interesting. They definitely have that in their favor. However, I have just finished reading some of the other online reviews for the Zion Covenant Series, and it seems that everyone loved them instantly, without finding anything to criticize about them. Well, I'll give you a more critical opinion to help guide you in your book purchases:

If you DON'T care for books in which....
1. ...the characters are very stereotypical;
2. ...the authors take great liberties with the thoughts, words, and actions of actual historical figures and make them say and do things that you know they never did, or would have done;
3. ...the main characters are great pals with the actual historical figures, and are rich, are beautiful, are witty- in short, have absolutely everything they need to accomplish the story and aren't very believable;
4. ...the plot isn't believable;
Then, these books might not be just right for you.

Yes, the books are very interesting. The plots aren't very believable, but they are interesting. The history contained in them is written well, and the books are worth reading for that alone. Unfortunately, these books are more of the same historical fiction in which overall unbelievability prevails, and that spoiled the books for me. Now, if you are not picky about having great people in history meddled with (for example, at one point in the third book Winston Churchill gets involved in a plot to kidnap the heroine, because she would be so exceedingly valuable as a spy for the Allies), and you don't worry about the other points in my list either, then you probably will like the books. For reading for amusement, they are fine. But if you want really great historical fiction, I wouldn't suggest the Zion Covenant.

5 out of 5 stars I love these books!.......2001-10-16

If you start reading this series, you will not be able to put the books down! Against the backdrop of pre-WWII Europe, the Thoenes create characters that are true to life, and that you can't help but root for -- or against. These books are incredibly well-researched and well written, and a great investment of your time and money. You won't be disappointed!

Book Description

Under the Tuscan Sun meets the wide-open sea . . . An Embarrassment of Mangoes is a delicious chronicle of leaving the type-A lifestyle behind -- and discovering the seductive secrets of life in the Caribbean.

Who hasn’t fantasized about chucking the job, saying goodbye to the rat race, and escaping to some exotic destination in search of sun, sand, and a different way of life? Canadians Ann Vanderhoof and her husband, Steve did just that.

In the mid 1990s, they were driven, forty-something professionals who were desperate for a break from their deadline-dominated, career-defined lives. So they quit their jobs, rented out their house, moved onto a 42-foot sailboat called Receta (“recipe,” in Spanish), and set sail for the Caribbean on a two-year voyage of culinary and cultural discovery.

In lavish detail that will have you packing your swimsuit and dashing for the airport, Vanderhoof describes the sun-drenched landscapes, enchanting characters and mouthwatering tastes that season their new lifestyle. Come along for the ride and be seduced by Caribbean rhythms as she and Steve sip rum with their island neighbors, hike lush rain forests, pull their supper out of the sea, and adapt to life on “island time.”

Exchanging business clothes for bare feet, they drop anchor in 16 countries -- 47 individual islands -- where they explore secluded beaches and shop lively local markets. Along the way, Ann records the delectable dishes they encounter -- from cracked conch in the Bahamas to curried lobster in Grenada, from Dominican papaya salsa to classic West Indian rum punch -- and incorporates these enticing recipes into the text so that readers can participate in the adventure.

Almost as good as making the journey itself, An Embarrassment of Mangoes is an intimate account that conjures all the irresistible beauty and bounty from the Bahamas to Trinidad -- and just may compel you to make a rash decision that will land you in paradise.

5 out of 5 stars fun read.......2007-09-07

This is a fun book. Among other things, it is the first book on a cruising trip that I have seen with recipes using local ingredients.

More than that though, Ms. Vanderhoof discusses her initial fears and concerns and her later comfort with sailing. All of us have that to some degree, maybe especially if we start sailing as adults.

Also, there are funny and poignant stories. For example, her doctor noticed a lot of bruises on her body and asked her if her husband were beating her. The answer: No, we're just sailing. Her stories about her friends in Grenada are charming and revealing about life in Grenada.

4 out of 5 stars Now I want to sail a boat around the tropics for a year.......2007-05-18

Not that I didn't before, but this book was detailed, warm, and made me want to follow the author's path. Unfortunately, some of the most intriguing things the author described are no longer there, but the potential for similar adventures is. I like the idea of giving a focus to your travels, as they do when they begin to explore the rum distilleries. And the recipes, while sometimes having difficult to procure ingredients, are intriguing and exotic.

5 out of 5 stars best cruising story I have ever read...and one of the best books ever.......2007-05-12

This is a delightful journey. I read it on a snowy weekend and felt like I was in heaven. Ann Vanderhoof is an eloquent writer and the strory is appealing to men and women. You do not have to be a sailor to love this book, the story is universal.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful!.......2007-05-10

I loved this book from the first page, and I was sorry to have the book end. These are good people, and that seems to invite goodness back to them. Their adventure was believable, and made me want to see parts of the Caribbean I haven't visited. The book is a quick read, perfect for the beach and a nice rum punch!

4 out of 5 stars Recommended before a Cruise.......2007-04-07

I read this just before a cruise in the BVIs. It is a fun read. However, it was a lifesaver for me in many respects. I had copied some of the recipes out of it before I left as I wanted to try them while cruising. Not only did we use the recipes (which were very good), it really gave me a feel for what to take (and not to take) as well as the things I would need to watch for on a cruise. The best example was when we caught a conch. Amazingly, I had the instructions for cleaning it on the page with a recipe. It worked perfectly and saved us incredible amounts of work.

The only downside to this book is that I am now longing to do exactly what they did, take a two year cruise!

5 out of 5 stars Terrific Anthology.......2006-09-18

I bought this when I looked at the index and saw one of the authors is Tee A. Corinne who truly knows how to deliver a story.

This is a Keeper!

I found the following information on the book -

From Publishers Weekly
What do women want sexually? Here 21 women writers, some pseudonymous, spin a variety of candid erotic fantasies in an attempt to answer the question with a turn-on for every taste and circumstance. One of the most imaginative, "The House of the Twin Jewels," describes a futuristic brothel for female patrons. "A Japanese Play" features group sex for money while the camera rolls. "The Scavenger Hunt" and "Humming" celebrate lesbian love, the latter affording a healing experience for one partner, her "aging body wracked these days with the storms of menopause." In "Fearful Symmetry" the handicapped male lover has a prosthetic arm. "Cradles of Light" mingles autoerotic enjoyments with memories of the past. Clinical therapist Barbach has written and edited several volumes (including the nonfiction Pleasures: Women Write Erotica designed to help women fulfill their sensual potential. Her introductory comments to this book stress the need for affirmation, tenderness and mystery. Unhappily, many of the stories suffer from awkwardly sentimental and amateurish writing. Literary Guild and Doubleday Book Club alternates. Copyright 1986 Reed Business Information, Inc. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From the book - 21 erotic short stories by women, for women. "In this intense exploration of seduction, romance, and erotic fantasy, Lonnie Barbach has collected 21 tales that stimulate the mind as well-as the .body. These graphic stories, filled with the unexpected and forbidden, brilliantly capture the myriad layers, colors, and visions of every woman's sexuality. These stories - by and about women, young and old, married and single, heterosexual and lesbian - involve mysterious partners, racy games, risqué encounters, and more. The result is a classic work of passion that can be used as a starting point for shared intimacies or as a pleasure experienced alone."

3 out of 5 stars Some excellent stories in this volume........2005-07-14

People don't change, sex doesn't change. Writing about sex doesn't change much, either. Originally published in 1986, this volume of short stories ages fairly well, I think. What it's lost in bite is still made up for with flavor. These stories are not as edgy as they were back in '86, but they are still good stories.

Some real gems appear here. Valerie Kelly's "Berlioz and the Ghetto Blaster" takes a genre sex-fantasy staple - the hunky handyman - and renders it with such reality and connection that it becomes fresh again, and one of the hottest pieces in the book. Gayle Feyrer turns to science fiction/fantasy for "The House of the Twin Jewels," an intense and marvelously evoked depiction of lust and beauty as an alien woman falls for a male pleasure-slave. The beautifully-written and painstakingly-evoked "Birthing," by Doraine Poretz, really got to me on a fundamental level, as did Rebecca Silver's "Fearful Symmetry." Sandy Boucher's "Humming," about an older woman loving a younger woman, is beautiful and resonant, and deeply comforting.

Most of the other offerings are at least good, and though there are a few that aren't my thing, there was only one that I really disliked. That was, unfortunately, the first story in the book, but thankfully, I plowed right on through, and was glad to discover some stories that I will definitely revisit in the future.

As a whole, this is varied, evocative, writing, and the subject matter is just challenging enough to be piquant but not uncomfortable.

Considered in a modern context, the stories are not particularly shocking or provocative (though there are exceptions). It reads much like any collection of women's erotica . . . smooth, gentle, and not so much randy as emotional.

A lot of it is very well-written though a majority of it is a bit more billowing and metaphorical than really crazy with the hips, and the writing does skew toward the "and when she had an orgasm, the whole universe came with her, because she was At One With Everything" school of sex writing.

Writers, take heed. There is a difference between having well-groomed, genteel sex scenes, and writing like a rapidly-deflating patchouli-scented gasbag. If your heroine touches the world when she touches herself, you are probably hanging too much on the Big O. Beware the impulse to overstate.

Okay?

Okay.

Overall, worth a look.

Its the only play i read in the book. It was an interesting read. The dialect is sometimes hard to understand, only a few words though.
The play is fast moving and interesting. The scandalous Eben-???(dont want to ruin it for you) relationship is unexpected and dramatic. Perhaps too dramatic, in a rome and juliet complex.

5 out of 5 stars Three great and rarely performed plays by Eugene O'Neill.......1998-11-18

One of these three great plays by Eugene O'Neill is Strange Interlude which was written in 1923 and won the Pulitzer Prize in 1928 when it originally ran on Broadway. Its running time is over four hours and it is usually performed with a dinner break. It is a family chronicle, of sorts, following the life of Nina Leeds and her family in a small university town in New England - from her early days as a young woman mourning the loss of her ideal lover during WWI, through her middle age years. It is the story of a family's secret and their determination to keep this secret unknown by others, and sometimes even to themselves. The play's most unusual quality, though, is found in the words that each character speaks. Not only do they converse with each other using naturalistic dialogue, but they also voice their subtext, which is unheard by the other characters in the play, but is heard by the audience. This device brings to the surface the secret life that each character in the play carries with them but is not willing to reveal to others. It creates, in the audience, as if it were another character in the play, a "sharer" of these stage characters' secrets. Through it all we view the lives of these characters with a fondness, and we root for them. Perhaps we root for them because we know, very much, why they are doing the things they do to each other.

The two other plays are well worth the experience of reading and/or seeing on stage. Mourning Becomes Electra, based on the Greek Electra myth, is especially wonderful. Its set in post civil war america and like Strange Interlude its length makes it a rare theatre treat to see performed on stage.

When Nick sells Tarantino Investments, Shelia is heartbroken and sure her fantasies will never come true. But when she receives a mysterious invitation, her life changes…forever.

Erotic Weekend By Cheyenne McCray

What she never expects is to meet the man of her dreams—who just happens to be her fellow Vice President of the investment firm she works for, Derrick Macintyre.

Derrick has had his eye on Andi for as long as she's worked at the investment firm. When he learns she's planning a weekend at his favorite club, he ensures that she ends up as his sub—and he intends to make her his, for always.

Erotic Stranger By Cheyenne McCray

It's been ages since she's been laid, and Teri has a deep, dark fantasy… She wants to spend one erotic night with a stranger.

Josh Williams is a BDSM Master who knows a born submissive when he sees one. After just a look at the green-eyed brunette in the hotel bar, he has no doubt he can teach her all about pain…pleasure…and complete submission. What he doesn't expect is what Teri has to teach him.

4 out of 5 stars Very entertaining.......2007-08-23

I found this book to be very entertaining. I am reading it for the second time. I always find something I missed from the original reading.

1 out of 5 stars Uncomfortable afterwards.......2007-07-27

There are three stories in this book. The first two are okay,(I am not a fan of BDSM) but I had a big issues with the third one. The Dom uses an empty, open-neck, champagne bottle on the sub, in that story. (I think you know what I mean.) Even though this was consensual, I still thought it was dangerous and degrading to the female.(Yes, I know that this is fiction.)

As a result, I will not purchase books by this author again. Shame on her!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome BDSM Erotica!.......2007-05-31

Cheyenne, I think I love you. I haven't seen another author who A; can write decent characters, good dialogue, and fast moving plots and B; actually truly understands the world of BDSM and creates fantasies that are broad reaching, erotic, and realistic.

Erotic Invitation - Voluptuous mild-mannered Sheila is in love with her hot boss Nick. The day he quits she gets a sexy dress and a hot invitation from him. Nick takes her out on the town for an evening of fantasies long denied to them both where he gently initiates her into the world of dominance and submission. Excellent story!

Erotic Weekend - Andi is a high-powered executive with a crush on a fellow VP, Derrick. Her fantasies are of bondage, discipline, and submission, and Derrick is her main co-star. When a mututal friend tells Derrick that Andi is going to try these fantasies out at an S&M club he jumps.

Darker and more erotic than "Invitation" this story explores the world of true Doms and trained subs, and Andi lives out her and Derrick's fantasies with him, 2 female subs, and their male Dom. Jealousy is well examined, the emotions feel real, the sex scenes are extremely well paced with great anticipation. Hot!

Erotic Stranger - Harder to believe than the first two you should read this one last. Teri travels for work constantly and she's lonely. Feeling daring she dresses in a sexy LBD, goes to her hotel bar, and looks for a man to bring her fantasies to life. Josh is an experienced Dom who knows a born sub when he sees her and in one night he takes Teri to the depths of her desires. Wonderful!

If you're new to the world of BDSM Erotica, this is the place to start. The writing is so well done that I'm going to have check out all of Cheyenne's other works.

Don't miss!

Spontaneous, sexy, hot, sensual, delicious and explosive are mere ways to explain the three short stories in this one delectable read. I certainly couldn't pick a favourite!!

The three couples are masterfully created and brought together by a gifted author who takes three every day type ladies and makes their dreams come true. Of course, in the form of these three ladies, McCray also makes the heroes dreams come true as well.

A reader can't go wrong with a McCray title!

Best collection of stories out there - not a dud in the entire book. I'm not as eloquent as the other reviewers but trust what they wrote, I'm glad I did.

5 out of 5 stars Review of "Change of Pace: Erotic Interludes" by Cheri.......2005-07-04

"Change of Pace: Erotic Interludes" by Radclyffe is a wonderful collection of short stories so delightful and delicious they will tempt, tease, and thrill readers for years to come. The anthology is contemporary, yet timeless, not only about sex, but also about love, longing, lust, surprises, chance meetings, planned meetings, fulfilling wild fantasies, and trust. Radclyffe is a masterful storyteller devising subtle plots, interesting settings, and developing believable characters, which don't get in the way of the hot sex scenes.

Radclyffe paints her characters using just enough brushstrokes to give the reader a whole portrait. When one lover states, "She had the hands of a magician, the mouth of a saint, and she could read me as if I were a billboard lighting up the night in Times Square" [p. 134], it's easy to imagine how much she appreciates her lover.

"Full Service Station" made me laugh out loud when the main character was so horny she thought, "The waitress in the diner, a friendly gem of a woman about one year older than God, made my pulse trip. Hell, even inanimate objects such as trees and fireplugs were beginning to appeal" [p. 14]. The scene became funnier as it went on but you'll have to read the book to see what I mean. This is a mere sampling of Radclyffe's humor sprinkled throughout the text.

"Runway Blues" was great! Who hasn't fantasized about meeting a stranger at an airport after the trials and tribulations of trying to fly somewhere on a holiday weekend? Or maybe you've been to the Red Light District in Holland as in "A Woman in the Shadows," or longed for a massage as in "Four Star Accommodations," or perhaps a luxurious bath as in "Hart's Desire." If you've ever gone toy shopping in a sex shop, you'll love "Happy, Happy Birthday, Baby." Contemplating a piercing? You have to read "Pleasure Points!" All of the twenty-five stories are diversified enough to keep you interested, and are sexy enough to keep you hot.

The build-up, humor, and satisfaction are evident and incredible; Radclyffe gives her readers the pay-off they long for and have come to expect. Trust me when I say that you are going to need a fan, cold shower, partner, or whatever floats your boat, to quell the fire you'll feel while reading "Change of Pace: Erotic Interludes." Three of my favorite stories are the "Clinical Trials - Phase One: Calibrations," "Clinical Trials - Phase Two: Video," and "Clinical Trials - Phase Three: Assist Mode," but I highly recommend you read all of Radclyffe's "Change of Pace: Erotic Interludes" and choose your own favorite. I am sure you will have more than one favorite in this five star collection.

5 out of 5 stars Hot Hot Hot - and beautifully written, too.......2004-12-13

Radclyffe, the best-selling lesbian romance novelist, has now gifted us with the first (of many, we hope) all-Radclyffe erotica collection. And each of the more than two dozen erotic shorts in this collection takes the old cliche "good things come in small packages" to a new, searingly sexy level.

I have a love/hate relationship with erotica collections. On the one hand, I have always been a fan of short story anthologies: I love anticipating lots of new characters, a variety of voices, a broad range of images. Like a tasting menu, a collection of shorts has the potential to present many wonderful experiences for the price of one. Unfortunately, more often than not *erotica* anthologies fail to meet my expectations. When I read erotica, I want it to blow in my ear. I want to feel the touch of hands and teeth and tongue. I want to forget that I'm reading and to be reminded that the brain really is a sexual organ. But with most erotic anthologies, I'm lucky if more than a few of the stories have that effect on me. Sure, often the stories are good; they just don't...do anything for me.

The stories in this collection are exactly what they are advertised to be: erotic interludes. As Radclyffe's fans have come to expect, each one is beautifully written, creating a sexy, sensual envelope for the reader. You'll meet different characters, different voices, different scenes, different toys. I dare you to read more than one story at a sitting.

But probably what I like most about these stories is that the point of view is constantly a positive one. When I read erotica, I sometimes get the sense that the writer thinks she's being "naughty" or "dirty" -- that there's something salacious about what she's saying, that it's something only bad girls do. I find that a huge turnoff. But Radclyffe's stories are free from any subtextual disapproval -- these are stories about women who love women's bodies, and who love bringing other women pleasure, written by an author who has (literally) elevated the description of that pursuit to an art form.

The perfect gift for yourself, for your lover, or for someone you'd like to send just the right message. Indeed, the perfect read for anyone who wants to test the limits of her own erotic desires. This is the best, from the best.

Nora Roberts, writing as J. D. Robb, propels you into the darkest night of Lieutenant Eve Dallas's life - when a killer comes to call…Eve's name has made a Christmas list, but it's not for being naughty or nice. Even though Eve can't quite see it that way, it's supposed to be at least partly a vacation. But work intrudes in the form of a bloody homicide, and Eve is off and running. Byron & Kit:
Byron has known Kit since she was a small child, when he made a promise to take care of her as his own when her father died. Now she's grown up, and one of the strongest women he's ever known, standing by his side and helping him run his territory. She's also convinced they belong together. Of course Byron is stubborn. He thinks of his promise to Kit's father and refuses to get near her, even threatens to send her away. But if Byron sends her away, Kit is not coming back.....

    Jonathan & Lori:
Jonathan has wanted Lori for the last seven years, since he first saw her. But he believes she's way too innocent for someone who's seen what he's seen, done what he's done. Yet Lori loves him, has been in love with him for as long as she's known him, and his rejection of her hurts. Lori is a witch, but unlike her sister, Sarel, she is a Healer, not a Warrior. Only she can't seem to heal what's in Jonathan's heart. Now Jonathan is marked by an old evil that wants to destroy them all. Someone has taken someone precious away from Jonathan, who must make a choice. He's never really seen Lori for what she is, has always denied his need for a mate, but now he begins to realize just how special she is, and how much she means to him. And when Lori makes the ultimate sacrifice, proving just how powerful she actually is, he'll finally understand how much he means to her....

Byron's & Kit's story is a short but sweet taste of the Hunters, one that was very enjoyable. Jonathan's and Lori's journey is more bittersweet, filled with complex layers and emotions. We are given deeper glimpses into the personalities of many characters, and hints of what is to come in future stories. You'll find yourself moved to tears of sadness as well as happiness by the fate of these courageous and loyal beings. Being a Hunter is not always a happy life - it's hard and violent and bloody, but there's hope and love and honor to sustain them. Each story will leave you wanting more. Shiloh Walker has created a unique and intriguing world of magick, sensuality, and blood that is fierce and binding. Her writing keeps getting better and better, with added dimensions that keep you guessing as to what she'll think up next. Enjoy the ride.

If you love to read vampire erotica this series is a must. I like the way the author tells the story of the vampire and his mate. I am a reader of erotica and this book is a good read. I hope that she continues this story line. I will be the first in line to buy the next book she writes in this series and the bonus is you get two books in one binder.
