A Great Read!.......2007-09-16
Clancy-like technical writing and Ludlam-like action. Throw in Grisham for good measure and you won't put thisbook down. The action just keeps on coming. Some brilliant writing that made a good movie (but the book was much better, as usual). Highly recommend this one.
Oh come on!.......2007-08-01
This has to be one of the worst suspense novels I've ever read. Stephen Hunter makes a number of technical errors and implausible scenarios to try to make up for his wooden prose and lack of understanding of the shooter's culture.
- For instance, early on he claims that a villain carries an "automatic shotgun" under his coat. Then a chapter later he changes it to a "pump shotgun". Sure Benelli makes the M3 Super 90 now, but it's clear that Hunter doesn't know this (was the M3 even in existence when he wrote the book?). He just fails to pay attention to detail.
- Then he places the hero on a hilltop, has him rapid fire over 45 rounds through a .308 with hot hand loads at moving targets at variable distances, hero never misses, over a 145 men turn tail and run, then he fires a shot at over 1,200 yards offhand (or kneeling) and hits all three rounds on a single concealed target. Of course Hunter probably believes that a bull barrel might make up for heat stress but...oops, he forgets to have that particular rifle bull barreled (which probably wouldn't help anyway).
- Oh, and let's not forget the main premise of the whole story: hero fires a bullet through his rifle, villains recover the bullet, put it through a slightly larger barrel with a paper patch or sabot, bad guy then makes a precision kill at well over 1,500 yards. Yeah....right.
- The poor woman hostage has a bad guy tape a shotgun to her head with his finger on the trigger. The hero blows off the guy's arm at the elbow.... at six feet... with 00 buck... firing from the hip. Somehow he miraculously misses the woman (who was supposed to be between the two antagonists). She falls backward on the gun and severed arm and the shotgun doesn't go off. Then the hero goes through a gut-wrenching worry fest while trying to disconnect the girl from the shotgun because he's worried the gun might go off with the bad guy's finger perched on the trigger. *GROAN* THEN he takes the arm/shotgun and tosses it "as far away as he could".... so he just spent five minutes worrying that it might go off and then he hap-hapzardly launches it through the air.
The story line is weak. The dialog is unimaginative and dependent on cultural cliches. The characters are one-dimensional to the extreme. There is no suspense and everything in the end plays out exactly as you would expect it to from such a formulaic plot line. The only piece of mystery in the whole story is so implausible that you'll laugh at it when Hunter finally deems to tell you his big mystery.
If you know very little about guns (or just enough to write a hack novel) or don't particularly care about good writing then you will probably like this book.
One of the best action-packed book I had in years..........2007-07-27
Stephen Hunter really did a good job in packing all the actions and excitement into one book. Very well laid out plots and you could really feel the characters. It was so breath-taking that you just kept on turning the pages...
A must-read, overlooked Classic!.......2007-07-10
What makes this book great:
1. Ever imagined a scenario of one man against the world? We've all seen movies or read books about people overcoming insurmountable odds. But Vietnam Veteran Bob's foes are tougher than all of them. Mentally, they have him beat. Some of the most devious minds have come together to plan the perfect conspiracy. If that isn't enough, a shamed, but ingenious evil psychiatrist has Bob all figured out. He knows his fears and weaknesses. The bad-guys certainly have more connections than Bob. The entire U.S. Government and mass media is intent on ending his life. In terms of firepower, even discounting the nation's law enforcement personal, and the hand-picked group of ex-military types that personally hate Bob, a well-trained and battle-hardened group of Central American commandos are poised to fill our hero with bullets. If Bob's lucky, he'll get a long range rifle, an incompetent ex-FBI agent, and an 80 year old southern lawyer to help him out. If he's unlucky, maybe he gets a .45 ACP and the Ouachita Mountains. How can it get any better than this?
2. Tension and uncertainty aren't great things in life, but they are when you're reading a suspense novel. This book is packed with plot twists and unexpected turns. A book that has believable, yet riveting, surprises is the kind of book that I want to read. Stephen Hunter incorporated plenty of this into "Point of Impact."
3. Sometimes a passionate romantic encounter, sporting event, or life threatening situation will make your heart accelerate, but how about a book? This book is more than a slowly decaying lump of processed wood and splattered ink. This book will make your heart thump, thunder, and accelerate. I found my eyes racing through paragraphs during the multiple climaxes in this book.
4. Awaiting the revenge part. This book has some disgusting villains that badly need to be punished for their atrocities. This can be a fulfilling thing to read about. And you're guaranteed to keep turning the pages until the evil-doers get what's coming to them.
5. Appreciate a good conspiracy? Or would you rather see it come unraveled by the hands of a real American hero? In this book, we have the perfect conspiracy. You won't see a more immaculate frame-up. Even if you hate the undercover villians, you'll appreciate their professionalism as they plan to send Bob the Nailer, and a few innocents, to their doom. The best part is seeing the conspiracy fall apart, though.
6. Better than the movie "Shooter." We've all heard this adage before, so there is no use in me repeating it. Just trust me on this one.
7. If you appreciate guns and marksmanship, then that's something else you'll like about this book. Some of the calibers might be foreign to you if you're a novice like me, but if you like target shooting or gun collecting, this book will really resonate with you.
So what are you waiting for? Get lost in a world of suspense, intrigue, guile, and all those other adjectives for a few hours. Give your brain a kick, figuratively of course. You can let Bob Lee Swagger be your guide and not risk being picked off at the top of a hill.
Here's some more stuff about the book if you're eager.
Characters:
Bob Lee Swagger: AKA Bob the Nailer. A Vietnam vet with a reputation for superb sniping abilities. He is not without battle scars, both mental and physical. Physically, he was shot in the hip by a sniper during Vietnam. Mentally he has problems too. After Bob got shot in the leg, his best friend Donny Fenn tried to save him and got killed in the process. Bob came back from Vietnam and went through some difficult times and finally settled down in a lonely cabin in rural Arkansas. He has no companions but a handful of friends that he spoke to on occasion. He also has his dog. His life consists of collecting his checks from his services to the armed forces and shooting. Shooting is his only passion and pastime. He methodically hones his rifles to perfection on a daily basis. This hobby is a form of escape really. Bob shoots targets and forgets about everything else in life. Bob is intensely patriotic and never lost his southern humor, despite the hardships and setbacks that he has faced. Something about his psychological profile convinced a handful of masterminds that he would be the prime fall guy for their assassination plot. Swagger shows what he has left in him as he struggles against what appear to be insurmountable odds.
Nick Memphis: All Nick ever wanted was to be an FBI agent. Early in his career he landed the prestigious position of sniper for the FBI. In a hostage situation, he was in the position to take the shot at the deranged criminal. Perhaps due to his own nerves; or perhaps because of the commanding officer barking orders as loud as possible into his ear piece, Nick messed up the shot in the worst possible way and hit the hostage in the spine. As a result, his career took a dive. He lost his sniper position and was reassigned to the FBI headquarters in New Orleans. He married the wheelchair bound woman that he hit in the spine that terrible day. They surprisingly build a loving relationship. But everything takes a turn for the worse when she passes away. Sometimes unsure of himself and plagued with bad luck, Nick does his best to be a stellar agent but things just never seem to work out for him. Despite his work ethic and loyalty, he struggles to not get fired as he works for the FBI. Everything is elevated when he finds himself in the middle of the investigation and chase to capture Bob the Nailer.
Jack Payne and Colonel Shreck are ex-elite military veterans. They are the muscle behind the assassination and conspiracy plot.
Dr. Dobbler is an evil psychiatrist who no longer has a license. But this does not keep him from working for a covert front that might be loosely connected to the CIA. He's got Bob's profile.
There are more villains than meets the eye. Among them is a brutal Central American General, government law enforcement agents, a local policeman or two, and perhaps some government officials that are pretty high up. There is also another sniper, and evil one. He seems to be the opposite of Bob, and he might even be more skilled.
Plot summary:
Bob is at home, minding his own business, when a handful of strangers show up at his rural Arkansas trailer. Bob does not want to talk to them initially, but one of them flips him his congressional medal of honor and Bob listens to him in part as his patriotic duty. The strangers have a wonderful proposition for him. They are representatives of a cutting edge ammunition company that has designed a process to make the most accurate and reliable rounds in the world. They need a top notch marksman like Bob the Nailer to sample their product, endorse it, and represent it. But to make sure Bob endorses the product in good faith, they invite him to test the ammunition at their facility. Bob starts out with some simple tests; firing and checking the marking of different kinds of ammunition, including the new company's ammunition and Bob's custom loads. Just to show Bob that the ammunition was truly phenomenal, the mysterious company had Bob simulate some real life sniping events. During the final event, Bob simulated the murder of a drug-cartel Kingpin from several hundred yards. By the force of some ingenious psychological manipulation that will not be revealed in this review, Bob becomes angered and nearly traumatized. The whole ammunition bit was a set up to lure Bob into a covert operation to protect the President of the United States!
Bob's new covert allies inform Bob that they have obtained top secret knowledge that the man who shot Bob and killed Bob's best friend, Donny Fenn, during Vietnam, was planning on killing the president. They needed his sniping expertise to find out more information so that they could stop the terrible event.
To Bob's surprise, he is set up and framed for the assassination attempt (and murder). Now he has the entire federal government, and local law enforcement personal, and everyone else in the country on his tail.
Bob has a two goals, vengenance and clearing his name. The first goal is greater than the first. Somewhere over the course of the book, Bob's character develops in the midst of these hardships and he acquires a third goal. He wants to start a new life. He seeks to emerge from the hermit-like existence that has consumed him in rural Arkansas and find love and family like many other Americans. Bob is up against top secret organizations and powerfully efficient foes. He must utilize stealth and violence to survive.
One of my favorite parts of the book is when our wrongly accused sniper matches his jungle fighting prowess with a sizable group of Central American commandos.
This book successfully manages to have multiple climaxes in a way that other books fall short. The first climax involves multiple master snipers, elite villains, psychological manipulation, and involves Bob going toe to toe with the evilest of covert, conspiring, and absolutely brutal villains.
The second climax is Bob matching his wits with the sharpest young (and old) minds of the federal government.
I'm not sure which of the climaxes was more exciting, although the second one is a bit further outside of Bob's area of expertise.
The book is highly recommended. It is the kind of book that you read for enjoyment, and it is a classic in this regard. Very few books (if any) surpass this work in its ability to show the reader a good time.
Better than the movie.......2007-07-09
I saw the movie first and then read the book. While the movie does give a very nice visual rendition of the book, reading is much more engaging. The storyline was great. As a woman, some of the gun aspects of the book were a bit too detailed for me, but it was educational. Will definitely read other Stephen Hunter books.
Book Description
The key insight of Gaia Theory is that the entire Earth functions as a single living superorganism, regulating its internal environment much as an animal regulates its body temperature. But according to James Lovelock, the theory's originator, that organism is now sick. It is running a fever born of increased atmospheric greenhouse gases. Earth will adjust to these stresses, but the human race faces a severe test. It is already too late, Lovelock says, to prevent the global climate from "flipping" into an entirely new equilibrium that will threaten civilization as we know it. But we can do much to save humanity. In the tradition of Silent Spring, this is a call to action.

Science education.......2007-08-22
In every life time we come across a few books that are really important. I class this as one of them.
This book provides the man in the street with the information he needs to make balanced decisions about what is really going on with the climate and how well meaning green efforts are counter-productive.
The arguments in the book are counter-intuitive and as a result exposes the folly of most of the political and media commentary espoused on this very important issue.
Complex ideas are simply presented in a very accessible manner, this is not a stuffy science book full of incomprehensible statistics, rather its science education at its best.
Teach it in schools, Teach it to journalists, teach it to the man in the street.
No Simple Answers.......2007-08-19
Lovelock sees himself as a member of a new profession of planetary physicians. Continuing the analogy, the earth is running a fever, and in danger of acquiring a morbidity lasting as long as 100,000 years.
This fear is based on evidence from the Earth's history 55 million years ago when a geological accident released more than a terraton (a million times a million) of gaseous carbon compounds into the air, raising the temperature in tropical regions about 5 degrees C and 8 degrees elsewhere, and taking over 100,000 years to return to normality. Lovelock further claims we have already put more than half this quantity of carbon gases into the air and the sun is hotter than it was in the earlier instance.
Positive feedback in the Earth's environment makes our situation particularly sensitive. Warming from existing CO2 melts glaciers, which in turn reduces existing reflectivity of the sun - warming the Earth more; at the same time warmer seas reduce the oceans' ability to hold existing dissolved CO2, etc. (Melted ice caps would increase ocean levels 120 meters.)
Alternatives are few, and difficult. Powering all transportation through biofuels would require acreage 4-6X that now used for food, and would still generate considerable CO2. Burning natural gas produces half the CO2 now created otherwise; however, 2% leaks (natural gas is mostly methane - much more climate-affecting than CO2, though fortunately shorter lived) throughout the process would negate this benefit. Peat bog fires create 40% of the world's total carbon emissions, per Lovelock (it seems something could/should be done in this area). Wind energy is only available about 25% of the time, and tidal energy would only supply about 6% of England's requirements. Sunlight is not even totally reliable in the SW, and storage and transmission costs would seriously hurt its viability outside that immediate area.
Recommendations: 1)Nuclear energy. 2)Population reduction, assisted by productive uses of women's' talents.
One topic was not addressed - Lovelock states that the U.S. has been reluctant to pursue global warming improvements. I suspect he is correct; however, no explanation for this was offered.
An invaluable guide to the future.......2007-07-01
In this dour assessment, Lovelock has taken his original brilliant insight of Earth as a living organism and extrapolated it into the pessimism of an environmental disaster in the making.
Until Lovelock, no one thought of all life on this planet as creating a unique living being in its own right. In retrospect, it's obvious; this is the nature of true genius. In a very scientific manner, backed by the finest research and impeccable data, Lovelock reached an understanding of the Earth that matches the basics of Native American philosophy.
This book is a timely prediction that life on earth will collapse within the next century due to human activity. His reasoning is accurate, brilliant and based on a fundamental flaw; he fails to recognize that humans continue to change. The agricultural revolution that began 10,000 years ago made profound changes; the evolution of teosinte into corn is one of a myriad of amazing progress.
Now the Industrial Revolution is changing human habitation from 95 percent rural to 95 percent urban; worldwide, 50 percent of people now live in cities, and this will be 70 percent within 50 years. It's the most profound population shift since hunter/gatherers became farmers; and, it's likely to have an ever greater impact on the natural world.
Humans have evolved from gathering food to producing food to producing things to producing intangible ideas. An intengible idea has economic value, but it is not something you can drop on your foot. It's a product of brainpower, not natural resources. Two centuries ago, the wealth of nations was their natural resources; today, the natural resources of the US are 3 percent of its wealth while the intengible ideas are 82 percent.
Lovelock ignores this ability of humans and wildlife to change. In Phoenix, the rich live in walled, guarded and video-camera'd enclaves such as Biltmore Estates; coyotes are also learning to live there and are making Shih Tzus, Sharpeis and other toys into their own fast food snacks. Coyotes once were limited to the Rocky Mountains; now, they're found in Central Park in New York and everywhere else they choose to adapt.
Life changes. People are flocking into cities which became "the dark satanic mills" of Dickens' times. Now possible to build zero-carbon cities, as planned in Abu Dhabi. Humans change. Granted, change is often costly. Without forethought, millions may die. Without change, the toll will be even greater. But, change will occur. It always has, it is now, it always will be so.
This book sets out the scenario of a potential disaster, based on the knowledge of a brilliant and innovative scientist. Neither Lovelock or any other individual will come up with all the answers; but, in reading it, every thoughtful person will be prompted to come up with their own solutions large, small and meaningful.
Lovelock presents a beautiful concept of the world, a philosophy that reaches the levels of Native American wisdom. The difference is not becoming stuck in the status quo, as with Native American religions; but, in adapting to a radically different future. This book recognizes the danger of the status quo; change (evolution) means everyone must adapt to the future. Those who don't will become extinct.
Those who do will be thankful there were books such as this to serve as guides and inspirations along the way.
Very late on Gaia. Very, very late.......2007-05-25
What sets this book apart from the other climate crises books is that Lovelock's view is complicated by double aspects. Not only is global warming causing its problems, but also overpopulation is causing disturbance of Gaia's self-regenerating processes. Even if we were fortunate enough to solve atmospheric carbon accumulation we would still face a shortage of land. Lovelock points to land lost to agribusiness to feed the billions. Disturbance of soil microorganisms as well as the loss of the rainforest is to blame.
Lovelock stresses alternatives to fossil fuels favoring immediate development of nuclear fission. He notes "one of the striking things about places contaminated by radioactive nuclides is the richness of their wildlife."
Lovelock also distances himself from environmentalists in his defense of DDT. "These insecticides badly needed controlling, but the indiscriminate banning of DDT and other chlorinated insectides was a selfish, ill-informed act driven by affluent radicals in the first world. The inhabitants of tropical countries have paid a high price in death and illness as a result of their inability to use DDT as an effective controller of malaria."
The tone in this book is decidedly grim - much more so than Lovelock's early books. He does stay on-point here.
An alarming report on global warming.......2007-05-10
James Lovelock, an eminent scientist and innovative thinker, is best known for his "Gaia Hypothesis," named after the Greek goddess of the Earth. This proposes that all parts of the Earth - living and nonliving - function together in a complex, interdependent system that can be viewed as a "living entity." Lovelock contends that our Earth, "Gaia," is very ill and, alarmingly, will become even sicker due to the effects of global warming. He contends that the nations of the Earth must immediately institute a series of drastic actions to reduce carbon emissions and the other greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming; and that they quickly must take other vital steps to protect the environment. According to Lovelock, if the Earth's people do not take these long-overdue actions, civilization will most possibly perish and, as he grimly puts it, the Earth will become a savage world ruled by "brutal warlords." Lovelock's book is a crucial wake-up call for the planet and life upon it. We suggest that you read this book to learn about the horrors that may - and the author reports very likely will - occur without immediate action to slow global warming and mitigate its dangerous effects. Forewarned is forearmed.

Revenge Has Consequences That You Must Except.......2007-06-06

You just over heard some gossip about a person that you know! Do you spread the gossip some more? If you think you might, then this might be the book for you!
Alicia Riveria is tired of being Massie Block's beta and always being the second choice or second hottest - so she decides to start a clique of her own. Well once Massie finds this out, she goes ballistic! With the race between the two, to tell who's the hottest or who's better, the girls realize that they loose the most important thing that they had. Friendship.
The best part of the book was the climax when all the gossip between the girls, exploded and revealed itself, through a cat fight. Then when they're told to stop, they stat to laugh about the whole scene and then become friends again! It's a happy ending.
As the reviewer of this book, I would say the main idea is that friendship s more important than popularity or attention `cause being popular has lots of responsibilities, but friendship involves just being yourself.
I liked the way this book switched from all the girls' different perspectives and they talked about their true feelings in their perspectives. What I would change about this book is the drama. There seems to be too much drama between the girls that the book doesn't quite, then, seem completely real, but yet its still very interesting. I would recommend this book to teenage girls between the ages 12-18, because it can help anyone of them, realize how important friendship really is and how unimportant being popular is. Overall this book is very good and I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone.
the clique revenge of the wanabes.......2007-05-23
I absolutley loved this book so much! There are many things that go wrong though. The girls think that nothing could go wrong between their strong friendships, until one day it all falls apart. Alicia was hanging out with Olivia way to much. The other girls knew that there wasn't enought room for her in their clique. Alicia had to make a decision to whether or not to stay with the clique, who had been her best friends forever, or stay with her new bestfriend Olivia. The clique planned a mean revenge for Alicia to make her want to change her mind about being best friends with Olivia, who was a "loser beyond repair," and not "the pretty committee."
When i was reading this book i could not put it down for one second. There was so much action going on it was really hard to put it down. The book was definitely, without a doubt in my mind a page turner. This book shows real life situations. I can relate to almost everything that happens in this book. This book is a great book for girls who are going into middle school, or who are in middle school
Revenge of the Wannabes Review.......2007-05-06
When Alicia Rivera cheats by switching ballad boxes at the OCD fashion design with her partner Olivia, Massie Block her former best friend decides she needs to get revenge. After dance rehearsal Alicia talked to some of the girls decided she needs make other friends too other than Massie. They convinced her to hold Friday night sleepovers, even though Massie always invites her popular friends over every Friday. When she finds out she is furious and decides she doesn't want Alicia to hangout with them anymore. When Alicia and Olivia go to the Teen People Interview for winning the contest, the lady there asks them if they want to model for the magazine instead. They agree and she said they are able to bring six other friends. When Massie hears this she calls the lady and tells them that they will be the others. In the end the go to the photo shoot and it turns out a total disaster because they all get into a fight, but after that the make up and are good friends again. The Revenge of the Wannabes is a funny, interesting novel I would definitely recommend.
One of the reasons I liked this novel is because it is easy to understand and keep interest in. The story dealt real life situations that happen to teen's everyday like friendships, crushes, and popularity. Such as Alicia being tired of being pushed around by Massie, wanting to be more popular, and have other friends. Also Clair who is kind of new to Westchester and lives in Massie's guesthouse is just starting to feel popular and Massie's friend.
Another thing I liked is the characters and how they acted. Alicia Rivera wanted to be independent and more popular yet she still wanted to be exactly like Massie. She did similar things like Friday night sleepover, start her own clique, and even find look alike new best friends. Also I liked the Teen People fashion editor, Lucinda because she didn't care and was cool about everything even when she found out Olivia and Alicia cheated. She always made sure everybody and there outfits look perfect. There is also Massie, who very popular and used to getting everything she wants.
Lastly, I liked this book because of the unique well written plot. The book is mostly about revenge for Massie to get back at Alicia for starting her own clique and cheating on the fashion contest. At one point in the book Massie and her friends painted a mural describing Alicia's backstabbing then showed it to her that sent her sobbing out the door. There were several twists and unexpected parts such as when Clair is accepted into the clique and Alicia has Todd, Clair's younger brother, spy on Massie's sleepover.
Revenge of the Wannabes is a wonderful book that I would highly recommend. It was fun to read about events that I could relate too such as the drama that happens to normal teenagers. Also I liked the characters such as Kristen, who doesn't have very much money is still really good friends with the popular girls in school, and they have kept her secret for a long time. The reader will have fun trying to imagine what it would be like to be in the position of people in the book such as how Massie felt when she found out Alicia backstabbed her.

there coming for revenge.......2007-04-05
The characters of Revenge Of The Wannabes are Clair Lyons, Kristen Gregory, Dylan Marvil, Alicia Rivera, Massie Block and Oliva. Massie Block is the most popular girl at school but Alicia want's to be more popular then her, so Alicia and the other girls at the dance studio starting talking about the sleepover that Massie Block always has and they came up with an idea that Alicia should have a sleepover of her own. so when Alicia got home she thought about it for a while. She went up to her room and checked her messages on her phone and she had messages from her dance studio friends and from Massie and those group of friends. Alicia was really confused she didn't know if she should have her own sleepover or go to Massie's. Later in the book it was a Teen People design contest Massie really won but before judging Alicia and Oliva changed the vote boxes so the 2 girls went to Teen People and they got to see all of the latest clothes and even got to take something home.
A Favorite!.......2007-03-30
Alicia had cheated in the OCD fashion contest and now Massie feels that the revenge is long past due, and she will stop at nothing to crush Alicia's perfect record. After dance rehearsal Alicia was talking to the other girls and decided that there was too much "Massie" in her life, and the other girls talked her into starting sleepovers on Friday night. Massie owned Fridays and that course of action was not an option, but she could not refuse the wide eyes staring in on her. As the day of her Teen People magazine interview grew closer Alicia continued to wonder if Massie knew what she and Olivia had done, but when the day of the interview came and Massie still did not say anything she thought that she was in the clear, but in truth Massie knew exactly what had happened. Then Massie found out that at the magazine interview Alicia and Olivia had been offered a modeling job, Massie decided to tell the people that Alicia was lying, but when she did all the people said was that they did not even care. Massie was so mad at Alicia that she invited her over and she had a mural of her on the wall and explained its contents to Alicia and sent her running out. Then one day at a Briarwood soccer game Cam convinced Alicia to ask Claire out for him. Alicia told Claire the news and said that they should go on a double date and Claire agreed to go. While they were there Alicia had Todd spy on Massie's sleepover. The next day Alicia said that unless they where a scarf showing that they were in her group she would tell everyone their secrets. They all wore the scarves and they all went with Alicia to the shoot and there they all got in a fight after breaking down from all the pressure that had been building up during the past month. After that situation they became friends again and Claire was admitted to the Pretty Committee. I really enjoyed this book and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys gossip and tough social situations.
I enjoyed this book because it depicted how cliques and popularity affect social structure and how people act. At the beginning Alicia wanted to have her own sleepover and be the leader of a group, but Massie completely rejected the idea because she thought that people would like Alicia more than they liked her. Another time was when Alicia found out all of her ex-friends' secrets and she used that as leverage to get them to see things from her point of view. Another point was at the very end when everyone let out the anger built up inside of him or her and they started fighting. The fight was Massie's friends versus Alicia's friend and finally at the end they made up and continued the photo shoot for Teen People.
The book details the life of the Clique over the course of about one month and it is amazing how people changed and stayed the same. Kendra, Massie's mother, was always very strict about keeping everything clean and perfect, but after she started reading with a book club she started to .et go and was not as strict. She even let the girls paint the old horse barn. Another person that changed was Claire, because at the beginning she was quietly in love with Cam, but was never confident enough to really go out with him. After he did, though, she really liked it and found another thing to like in Westchester. Finally it was Massie who changed the most. In the beginning she was always rude and jealous towards Claire because she had a crush on Cam as well, so she was always telling Claire to break up with Cam because she was always so mad that someone had beaten her at something. In the end she allowed Claire to go out with Cam and she developed a crush on Derrington.
Another thing that I appreciated in this book were the different characters and how they acted. I especially liked Lucinda, the editor for Teen People because she did not care too much about anything or even that Olivia and Alicia had cheated in the contest, but she did care about how the other people dressed around her as well as her clients. Another character was Alicia Rivera and she was tired of sitting in Massie's shadow and decided to be independent and start her own group. Of course there is Massie Block, and she is an ambitious seventh grader that is used to everything going her way and getting all she wanted.
This was on of my favorite books because of the characters like Kristen, a girl who does not have very much money and yet has still made friends with the most popular girls in school, and has kept her secret over the years. I also liked this book because of how the characters changed through the progression of the story. I also liked this book because it shows how popularity really does control our life. I recommend this book to anyone that can really relate to the situations in the book.

It was good until...........2007-08-31
I really like the book I couldn't put it down, But when I got to the end of the book I was upset it should not have ended the way it did I was like ohh no! Otherwise it was a good page turner.
Short & Sweet.......2007-07-21
I have had this book "Death Before Dishonor" for 7 months and I just read it. It was actually pretty good. It was a quick and easy read.
The only problem I had with it was that you never learn that much about the characters, it just gives a brief glimpse at them, and it moves on. Like I wanted to know why Trill's baby momma was not in the picture? Why Mont turned on Trill and set him up? And why was Precious so damn money humgry?
Other than that Nikki does her thing.

Refreshing Read.......2007-05-31
I think it's really cool that 50 is getting into writing (or co-writing) street fiction. The story line was written well & was a smooth & easy read. I read this book in one sitting! I look forward to more G-Unit books. Right after reading this one, I picked up and finished the Ski Mask Way. I was not disappointed by either. Good reads.

and way to help each other. It was great reading and I could not put it down.

Loved it.......2007-07-12
I loved this book, and all the others in the Revenge of the Sisterhood series. I couldn't put them down!!!
Resurrection.......2007-05-24
Number Five of the Sisterhood Series delivers the sweet taste of revenge. "Sweet Revenge" by Fern Michaels keeps the reader come back for the next installment.
Isabelle Flanders' architectual career/life were destroyed when she was blamed for a drunk driving accident which took the lives of three people. Later she realized she was not driving the car and protested to no avail. She seeks out Nicky Quinn for help but the system doesn't work for her, hence her credentials are established for membership in the Sisterhood.
A fun read where nothing is simple but the almost happy endings, which are predictable.
Nash Black, author of "Qualifying Laps."
The Sisterhood is a GREAT series.......2007-05-13
I have so enjoyed the sisterhood, and the revenge that each sought. I agreed with their methods, and am looking forward to the last of the series. I wish I belonged in the "club"!
Sweet Revenge.......2007-05-07
I really enjoyed this novel. The whole 'sisterhood' series is great. It's good to see 'good' prevail, even if it is in a fantasy. And even if it takes 'doing wrong' to correct a right. It was a fun book to read. I could hardly wait to see how it was all pulled together.

Lethal Justice (all the Revenge of the Sisterhood books).......2007-08-24
I love all the Revenge of the Sisterhood Books. Lethal Justice is great. I can't wait to read more of Fern Michael's books and the rest of The Revenge of the Sisterhood Books.
Vigilantes.......2007-07-22
The Sisterhood series is one of Fern Michaels' best series. Each installment is better than the last. In this installment it's Alexis' turn to get revenge and Michaels accomplishes this with such class. I love the way she humiliates the criminals.
Ruins grow thorns........2007-05-24
Alexis Thorn, the first-time around, passed her revenge by The Sisterhood. She was haunted by the specter of bars controlling her life.
"Lethal Justice" by Fern Michaels gives Alexis the justice she was denied in grand style as the Sisterhood unite and gain a new member in this the sixth of a good series.
Wanting and being afraid of the consequences of her desire, plagues Alexis, as she knows the score. She served time in prison for a crime she didn't commit and has no desire to return. Perhaps the most complex of the series to date.
Nash Black, author of "Qualifying Laps" and "Taxes, Stumbling Blocks & Pitfalls for Authors."

Hard to finish...not worth reading .......2007-07-19
I wanted to like this book, but the plot was very disturbing-how can anyone feel positive about a book that endorsed this kind of ending?
Women who can outwit the government in this fashion? Yeah, sure.
Everyone has a BMW? Yeah, right.
They don't get caught when they spy? They always get the info they want? That's realistic...
And what happens to the horses? This book was over-dramatized and the characters were 1-Dimensional. The writing showed promise, but didn't deliver. I won't be reading any other books by this author, sad to say.
Till Justice Do You Part.......2007-06-11
Fern Michaels', "The Jury" doesn't rest on the success of previous additions to the series. The old southern adage: "You wouldn't want to stoop to their level," doesn't help when your only answer is: "You want to bet." Ms. Michaels provides a vicarious experience and keeps her fans coming back for more.
Nikki is suffering from guilt, even though she brought the members of the Sisterhood to her adoptive mother's attention; she feels the strain of an outsider. Now, her name has been chosen for the next revenge. Nikki believes her membership in the close knit group is under false pretenses as she has reunited with her life's partner without telling her friends. Taking a vacation, Nikki leaves her law firm in the hands of Allison Bank, a replacement for her beloved childhood companion.
Allison betrays her employer for a chance at the big time, and the Sisterhood convenes. In the meantime, Paula Woodley, a Washington wife, is almost beaten to death by her husband. Now Nikki mission becomes twofold, defeat Allison and regain her life's work and help Paula Woodley put an end to the torture she has endured during her marriage.

Book Description
Goldy Schulz is thrilled to be catering a holiday breakfast feast for the staff of the Aspen Meadow Library. But little does she know that on the menu, alongside the Great Expectations Grapefruit, Chuzzlewit Cheese Pie, and Bleak House Bars, is a large helping of murder.
While setting up at the library, Goldy spots a woman lurking in the stacks who bears a striking resemblance to Sandee Brisbane—the Sandee Brisbane who killed Goldy's ex-husband, the Jerk. But Sandee is supposed to be dead. Or so everyone believes.
Goldy's suspicions mount when the body of Drew Wellington, a former district attorney, is found in a corner of the library with a map worth thousands of dollars stashed in his clothing. She's convinced that Sandee is involved.
But the holiday madness is only just beginning for Goldy. Soon she's drawn into the dangerous, double-crossing world of high-end map dealing. And like the ghost of Christmas past, Sandee keeps making an appearance. Could she be out to prove that revenge is sweet?

absolutely horrible.......2007-10-04
I still can't believe it. I actually bought this book and 'Dark Torte'!
Both were a terrible disappointment. I read all of her first 12 books,
twice and loved them. What the hell happened? Mott Davidson could not have possibly written this book! How many times does a writer have to use 'had had' in one book, even on one page? I am an author, that is just plain laziness. All of the allegories, or made up cliches, if you will are horrible. The ridiculous way that Goldy continues to put herself in peril for nothing are worse than horrible. This woman has been banged up so many times, she should have been dead, five episodes ago. She's not James Bond, let's face it. I am slogging thru it, just to say I finished it but it's difficult, to say the least. The ony advantage of owning my personal copy, is that I can mark it up, with as many black marks, as I want to. C'mon Diane (may I call you Diane?). I don't know which lackey you handed off your 'pen' to but pick it back up again. This is not you!
Leaves you hungry for more--and not in a good way.......2007-09-27
I have been a fan of this series since the beginning but I was terribly disappointed with this effort. The character of Goldy has always been somewhat neurotic but now is additionally portrayed as rather shrill and overprotective, especially in the depicted relationship to her son, Arch.
I agree with a previous reviewer that much of the book was filled with Goldy's speculations about who might have been motivated to commit the crime as well as needless recapitulations of events. All in all, it was a tedious slog instead of a delightful bit of light mystery fiction.
Annoying and predictable.......2007-09-27
Diane Mott Davidson has missed the mark in this Goldie Schultz series Goldie has become tiresome and annoying in her amateur detective side line She interferes actually with the investigation and she needs to get a spine!! The other characters are very one dimensional and I think part of the problem is the reader I have never really enjoyed Barbara Rosenblatt's interpretation I really liked the early readings done by Mary Gross and I am totally sick of Goldie's husband calling her Miss G
Ugh........2007-09-25
This could very well be the worst Goldy mystery yet. Not only are the characters mere two-dimensional puppets, Goldy has turned into a narcissitic busy-body who I found myself rooting against. The supporting characters are merely that -- props that allow Goldy to to do whatever the heck she wants and then pull her out of trouble when she finds herself stuck.
How many times can one person put themselves in harrowing circumstances with no clear reason? How often can Goldy tromp over her friends and lie to everyone under the sun to stick her nose where it doesn't belong? How many map dealers could there possibly be in one small town? And how often can DMD use the phrases "white stuff," "two-step," and "quickstep?" The mystery itself doesn't make much sense, and Goldy vacillates from feeling sorry for Sandy to quaking in her boots at the mere mention of her name.
I used to love this series, but I'm afraid it just went onto my "don't waste your time list."
Sweet Revemge.......2007-09-24
Once again Rita Mae Brown has made a satisfing taste of mystery.
From the 1st page to the last she kept my attention.
Definitely worth reading again and again. I will look forward to the next book in this series.

Angel dont play!.......2007-09-17
This book was a very good read. I liked it better than the first installment to this trilogy. I cant wait for the sequel.
Pretty Good. .......2007-09-11
I liked it. The only part that I didnt like was that through out the entire book, Dutch was no where to be found. But!!! its good because it kept me wanting to read more. The action sequences in the book were great. I think Teri Should start turning some of these books into movies. and with someone like Dame he did paid in full and that is something I can see True to the Game like. I totally saw the entire way how World was killed in the bathroom. Teri's good for creating that picture.
THIS IS A GREAT BOOK.......2007-08-06
I could not put this book down. I have read both DUTCH and DUTCHI II can not wait for DUTCH III the conclusion, of the trilogy. I had never read any of Terri Woods book before, and I am now a Terri Woods fan for sure. Her character are great, and the book is well written. I am difinitely waiting on DUTCH III.
Excellent.......2007-06-28
I'm a great fan of Teri Woods books. Her books draw you in and keep you hooked from the first page to the last. I can't wait for Dutch III to be released.
OUT OF THIS WORLD!.......2007-04-02
Terri Woods has out done herself. The Dutch series is a real catch. Once you read part one you will be hooked. I have read both Dutch and Dutch II and I can't wait for the conclusion in Dutch III. Terri don't make us wait to long. I finished Dutch II in two days and was really disappointed when I was done. Not with the book but because I did not have part II to read right after I was done with part II. This series is a great read!
