I received a copy of this cookbook for Christmas (Thank you, Santa.) The book was all that I was expecting it to be and then some. Cookbook fans and Desperate Housewives fans alike will enjoy this book, and if you are both, even better! It is an honest-to-goodness cookbook, with a twist. It's also like a Desperate Housewives "scrapbook", with photos, snippets from the show and some cooking history for each of the "Housewives."
Obviously, the five "Housewives" of Wisteria Lane did not write these recipes, although they are presented as though they did. Christopher Styler is the creator of these wonderful recipes, capturing the style of each "Housewife". From Bree's perfectly fancy treats to Susan's fool-proof, simple dishes, there are a variety of cooking styles presented and a number of dishes available for each style. The photos of the dishes are great and reflect the appropriate housewife style even in presentation. (Check out photos of Lynette's dishes and you'll see a pacifier and plastic dinosaurs in the background.)
I like the fact that the cookbook is arranged in six different "Housewife" sections, one section for each of the five principal "Housewives" of the show and one section for the "neighbors" of Wisteria Lane. As a result, this cookbook is effectively grouped by style, rather than by course or food category. You want something fancy and intricate? Go to Bree's section. You want basic family fare? Check out Lynnette's. You're looking for a seductive, romantic meal? Go straight to Edie's section. (By the way, if you do want to see a list of all the salads in the cookbook, just go to the index in the back and look under Salad.)
Included in the collection are also recipes for dishes that have been either featured or implicated on the show, such as Susan's famous Macaroni and Cheese, Bree's muffins, Felicia's Macaroons and even Mrs. Huber's Smoothie (remember the blender?).
I do have to tell you that the first time I used the cookbook; I decided to do a three-course DH meal, with each course from a different section. I used Bree's Boston Lettuce & Chili-Toasted Walnut Salad (everyone loved the walnuts!), Susan's Shopping Bag Chicken (which I doubled) and Felicia's Wisteria Lane Icebox Napoleon dessert (with which I took a "Lynnette shortcut" and used a pudding mix). My family and guests loved it all!
The highlight was when I was cooking Susan's Shopping Bag Chicken. As I went to stir the chicken and veggies in the roasting pan after the first 15 minutes, my roasting pan (which is still very new) started to slide off the oven rack as I pulled out the rack. The whole thing started coming at me...and it was hot! I quickly said a couple of unprintable things, dropped my spoon, grabbed the other hot pad and managed to stop the roasting pan before it hit the floor. I pushed the pan back onto the rack, picked up two pieces of chicken off the floor, rinsed them, tossed them into the pan and with as much dignity as I could muster, closed the oven door. I then turned to my startled guests and said "Well, that wasn't in the recipe." And then without missing a beat, "but then, it WAS Susan's recipe!"
While I can't "guarantee" the same exciting results I had, I can say the food was great and I would love to make it again (with less drama, I hope). Whether you actually make any of the dishes from this cookbook or not, you'll enjoy looking at it.

I received this cookbook as a gift, and I absolutely love it! I'm a huge fan of the show, plus I'm a cookbook junkie. This cookbook really suprised me with how many good recipes is has. It includes foods and ideas that everyone can make and eat: family meals, comfort foods, healthy dishes, fancy feasts, and more.

This is the seventh (or at least seventh) collection of drawings involving housewives. There are exactly 37 well-drawn detailed drawings of women inside the book. Obviously enough, all the pictures have some connection to weddings, just married women, or just about to be married women. The pictures range from somewhat tame (I guess the tamest one in this collection would involve a woman kissing the bride) to somewhat extreme (involving bondage in one form or another, humiliation, getting caught in action, whipping). The women are brides, guests, in-laws, bridesmaids, and the maid of honor. The men, if there is a man in the picture, is shown shocked/surprised at the action, is being "thanked" by the bride, is walking away happy, is a priest, or is being distracted. Most of the action occurs outdoors or in some form of church or hotel (like the picture of the surprise guest on the honey-moon), but some of the action does occur in-doors (like the picture where the in-laws welcoming their new daughter-in-law by whipping her).
Overall, the collection is interesting, and well-drawn. The collection contains pictures of bondage, whipping, and humiliation. Note: some of the collections contain a page that collects the title of the pictures, and this is one of those collections. The page is at the very back of the book and is called the "Table of Contents."

Adult black and white graphic novel that contains issues 1-5 of the Housewives at play series, plus an extra story.
Housewife Cathy Stevens is drugged by neighbor Patty and made into a slave. The first story involves the capture of Cathy. Cathy is drugged, tied to a table and raped. Afterwards, she is photographed unbound. Patty uses the pictures to convince Cathy to become a slave.
The second story adds another "owner" to Cathy's life. Neighbor Beth catches sight of Patty dominating Cathy through the window and goes to the front door. Instead of attempting to help Cathy, Beth assures Patty that she wants to join in the fun. Patty is agreeable to this action, and Cathy doesn't have a say in the matter.
The third story introduces Cathy's daughter's friend Jen. Jen visits Cathy at her home and asks to be driven to school, as it appears she missed the bus. Cathy agrees and starts off with Jen. They stop off at Jen's house to get something she "forgot," but Cathy finds out that Jen hadn't really forgotten anything. Cathy finds herself bound naked on Jen's bed and attacked. Eventually, it turns out that Cathy hasn't found another "owner" but a slave of her own.
The fourth story involves a special dancer at a strip club. Patty and Beth want to go on a vacation together and decide to use Cathy to get some money. Under their power, Cathy finds herself dancing at a strip club, a special dance wherein the customers are allowed to touch, and more.
The fifth story involves Cathy taking out some of her frustration on Jen, and the recruitment of Cathy's daughter, Melissa, to the ranks of slavery. Cathy helps her slave drug Melissa . . . but Patty and Beth unexpectedly show up.
The sixth story is the continuation, revealed for the first time. The story is told in a shrink's office, and Cathy relates what happened. Patty and Beth had some fun with the girls and Cathy's husband Donald suddenly appeared and found the action. He did not enjoy what he saw.
The artwork is good, and it's nice to see an adult graphic novel with strong plot, characterization, and it doesn't hurt that the women are quite attractive. The series of stories is very enjoyable. More tales have been told, but they have not yet been collected in one book yet.

The men are either shocked at the action or looking for their women.
The action occurs in-doors (like the woman caught having fun on the washing machine), outside (numerous, like the picture of one of the soccer moms of the losing team bound over a grill being whipped), at a doctor's office (like the picture of the aggressive OB GYN), at a hospital, and at school (like the picture of the back to school parents night).

Enjoyable, cool, laydback, relaxed and hot. A book of drawings. Discoveries of lesbian encounters, by boyfriends, girlfriends or family. The best was the soft and elegant lines. Offensive motives presented in a very non- offensive way.
But why not make a story? I REALLY would enjoy to get a comic book with lesbian sex presented in a way like this. An idea for Rebecca ?

This is the sixth (or at least sixth) Housewives book (not counting "Housewives at Play Book 1" which is a collection of the first five comics (not the picture books, but the comic magazines). This book is a full-length comic as opposed to the others in the housewives graphic book series, which are collections of pictures. This book falls between the fifth and sixth comic magazines. The housewife comic series is published in a small thin adult comic magazine-form, and follows the story of Cathy, a housewife, that becomes a slave to two female neighbors, acquires a slave of her own (one of her daughters female friends) and introduces her daughter to the life-style. This particular book-length comic tells the story of Cathy in an insane asylum telling her story of her life as a lesbian slave to a female doctor.
An interesting well-drawn comic. The book contains bondage, lesbian sexual slavery, whipping, waterworks, and incest.

I bought this book as a fan of Desperate Housewives. It is, however, inappropriate for most fans. It is a collection of 17 essays on DH, primarily feminist writings. I slogged through three essays and gave up. They seem to be well-written, but they were just too academic and dry for me.
The chapters are (1) Culture, (2) Sexual Politics, (3) Genre, Gender, and Cultural Myths, (4) Narrative, Confssion and Intimacy. All of these topics are of interest to me, but I still couldn't handle the writing style and content---just too dry and frankly, boring. If you are looking for very serious, academic writing, and are a DH fan, you could potentially enjoy this book.
The book includes an episode guide for seasons one and two, an extensive bibliography, an index, and a film and tv guide. The authors are all distinguished writers and critics. It seems to me that it would be a great resource for a graduate level media class. I would not ever recommend it for regular fans, however, even committed ones like me.

I first ran across pin-ups drawn by Rebecca at the more mature areas on the San Deigo Comic-Con several years past. The retro-style Rebecca uses for thee housewives pin-ups were quite striking and reminds me a little of the Gil Elvgren cheesecake pin-ups. I ended up buying this first collection of Rebecca's Housewives at Play series of pin-up collections and I've been hooked on them since.
This first collection does indeed have the most pin-up work. They also have less of the computer-enhanced refinement Rebecca's later colections will have. Housewives at Play takes the mundane and stereotypical suburban housewife and adds a heavy dose of sex and naughtiness to the whole package. Rebecca's housewives still show up in their Sunday, WASP-y best but are now involved in such things as BDSM, sex slavery, sexual fetishes of all stripes, some incest, forced girl-on-girl rape and the cuckolding of said husbands.
Housewives at Play may be Rebecca's first and biggest collection of suburban moms gone extremely wild, but it's also one of her best. This book and its contents got her noticed in the Adult Comics industry and she's become one of its more popular artists. One would think that from all she's drawn if she gets her inspiration from unfulfilled fantasies or from personal experiences. Either way her work will titillate and maybe even shock the faint-hearted.

FUN.......2001-08-17
Rebecca, in my opinion, is the greatest artist of the Sapphic arts around. She is an excellent craftsman with a very realistic style, has a lot of imagination and a great sense of humour that adds instead of distracts from the erotic qualities of her art, and she is really into the subject matter as well (women at play while the men are away). And her women are not just sexy, but also very beautiful and realistic (two qualities that elude most erotic cartoonists).
Those who like the second volume (More Housewives at Play) should definitely order this one when it gets back in stock. The art on this first volume isn't quite as clean and crisp as the second volume's, but on the other hand the women in this volume are more varied and seem less like they have come from a cookie cutter (the only weakness with volume 2). All the other great elements are here, including the humour that can still be enjoyed when the reader isn't feeling frisky.
