Filled with insights.......2007-09-05
As a fan of the cult show this is the book to read lots of theories about the symbolism and meaning of the show. A great read pack with insights.
Interesting look into other's minds........2007-08-09
I think this project is amazing. After reading all of the books and getting the updates every Sunday from the website, I have come to realize that everyone has their own bag of crap to carry. It's a very interesting look into the minds of people and the secrets they carry around with them. Some funny, some sad. If you would like a book that is read in one sitting (everyone I have let see it has to look through the whole thing), this is the book for you.
Great!.......2007-07-15
It's the reading equivalent to searching through someone's medicine cabinet. It'll make you cry and make you giggle. Ultimately, it will make you contemplate your own secrets!
People Have Secrets Both Dark and Light.......2007-07-07
And secrets have power. It is a courageous and amazing thing to write down a secret and post it on a website. Some secrets are sweet, some are deep, and some are heartbreaking. But with each secret I read, I know that my secrets are not crazy. I'm just a normal person, like everyone else.

At the beginning of 2005, Frank Warren launched a new blog called PostSecret as an experiment in community art, inviting strangers to mail him anonymous postcards that made art out of their innermost secrets and then posting a selection of the cards every week on his blog. Within a year, his blog was one of the five most popular in the world, and his first book, PostSecret, was one of the surprise bestsellers of 2005. My Secret is his second book, a collection of cards from teens and college students--none of which has been shown on the website--that carries the same emotional power and creativity that have made Warren's project a phenomenon.
We are featuring seven postcards from the book here: see two of them on this page, and click on the numbers below to see five more.

My Secret.......2007-09-21
This book is classic, just like all of the other PostSecret Books. A must have for the PostSecret collector. You are not alone.
It is nice to know others have secrets!.......2007-09-14
What a really cool way to express yourself! I know for a fact that letting go of a secret makes life a little easier sometimes...and to have the opportunity to see what others have let go of is pretty neat. I wish it were longer!
Inspiration.......2007-08-23
This is an fascinating book filled with people's deepest secrets. It's beautiful to be able to open it, and feel as if hundreds of people have poured their hearts and creativity onto the pages. It's a thrill when you come across a secret and applies to you as well, makes you realize you aren't alone. Visually appealing, along with being the best kind of memoir, this book is a must have along with the other post secret books.
Love it; wish i could share it.......2007-07-18
I've done it a million times, but I still love flipping through this book and reading the secrets. I only wish that it was all "school appropriate" so I could share it with my students. Power points will have to suffice until they come out with a PG edition. Sadly unlikely...
Awesome Idea...tons of fun to read!.......2007-07-17
I love post secret and the person i gave the gift to also loves post secret! Its a great gift idea and tons of fun for everyone!

Very good conceptual and technical introduction to the Web Services like SOA components.......2007-06-20
This book is specially interesting by its chapter of introduction to the BPEL, since it is a subject that does not treat in almost any book of technical form.
It is a very interesting book so that it introduces to the reader in all the concepts and technologies involved in the Web Services focusing it towards a services oriented architecture.
It does not get to be a complete book on SOA, tries it either, but it provides good bases.
What makes very interesting to the book is that each concept and architecture introduce it very correctly and later makes one more an approach more technical, with examples of code, or definitions.
Everything and not to be a complete guide if who provides a very ample vision and detailed enough, so that the reader concretely knows that he is being spoken at every moment and he knows by where must extend its knowledge.
He lays the way to the knowledge of the technologies implied in the Web Services.
A very special chapter is of the BPEL where aside from introducing conceptually it gives it a good technical introduction providing to the reader the technical foundations to know the BPEL and power to confront a following deeper learning of the matter of more comfortable form.
It provides the necessary keys and concepts, as well as a general vision, allowing a later learning of the matters that interest easily but.
It is a book that nowadays is updated with the technologies that treatment.
Recommended for a very good conceptual and technical introduction to the Web Services, of form independently and like tool of SOA.
Not a bad book - Good fundamentals less on development focus.......2006-04-03
This book is all about Web services platform architecture and standards. It cooks well on most of the alphabet soup of web services standards. This book would guide you instead of browsing over the internet for what is what. The book falls short on guidelines for implementing them. The book also a bit old in its evolving specifications and endorsed standards coverage particularly less about WS-I and WS-Security* standards. That is disappointing.
Explains all you need to know about the Web Services Platform.......2005-10-18
What do you get when you put a number of Web Services gurus from IBM in a room for a while? You'll get the "Web Services Platform Architecture" book. In short, all the authors that assisted in writing this book are Web services experts from IBM who have either wrote the specs or assisted in writing the Web services specs in question. The nice thing about the book is that is it an easy read. It is not a dry, boring, "reading-these-specs is-putting-my-to-sleep," book. As you know, there are a number of specs that cover Web services, so the authors have a taken a short-and-sweet approach to each protocol. Each protocol is covered in detail, but the detail surrounds why you would want to care about this protocol, and not what paragraph 4, subparagraph 8 of chapter 2 of WS-Security says about naming conventions, for example. Each chapter ties the business needs to the technical aspects of the protocol, and talks about how the protocol can be used to solve a given business problem.
The following protocols are covered in this text:
Messaging-type protocols such as WS-Addressing
Description-type protocols such as WS-Policy, and WSDL
Protocols that are used for QoS specification such as WS-Security, WS-Reliable Messaging, WS-Atomic Transaction and WS-Business Activity
Security type protocols (WS-Security) and other related protocols such as WS-Trust, WS-Privacy, WS-Federation and WS-Authorization
Workflow and composition type protocols such as WS-BPEL.
As the authors move "up" the stack (the protocols are presented and classified very similar to what I described above - layers atop of the transport protocols such as TCP/HTTP), the business examples get more and more involved and complicated. You need to realize that there is not much code writing actually occurs in this book, but a high-level architectural methodology of how different pieces of the Wed services stack fit together, and compliment each other. The different examples given demonstrate another very crucial fact: an architect can pick and choose the protocol and standard s/he wants to get the job done. Web services protocols are by no means an all-or-nothing concept. This is why interoperability of various protocols very important, and the main reason why some of these protocols are stuck at the "final" stages of approval committee for such a long time.
Two case studies are presented at the end of the text that covers the end-to-end model of the protocols. Authors also discuss a number of competing protocols that have come out of various Web services standard committees, and why each one is needed. Future trends in Web services is the last topic discussed in the text with a brief talk of Web semantics.
All and all, this is a great book on Web service protocols - the topics are easy to read and follow - something that each and everyone one of us involved with Web services can use given the number of protocols and standards that are out there.
Too high level.......2005-07-25
There are several other books, that are over 2 years old that do the same job as this book. As an SOA enthusiast, you probably own or have read several of them already .. why bother with another one?
Very high level.......2005-05-12
As an architectural book this is a fine work. It's short, somewhat terse but not overly so. Graphics are consistently well used throughout. And the author has a genuine grasp of the subject.
If you are looking for an architectural level work, or a high level introduction to web services, then you may have found your book. But if you are looking for something that presents both the architecture and some examples of implementation you won't find what you are looking for here.

For 30 years Frank McCourt taught high school English in New York City and for much of that time he considered himself a fraud. During these years he danced a delicate jig between engaging the students, satisfying often bewildered administrators and parents, and actually enjoying his job. He tried to present a consistent image of composure and self-confidence, yet he regularly felt insecure, inadequate, and unfocused. After much trial and error, he eventually discovered what was in front of him (or rather, behind him) all along--his own experience. "My life saved my life," he writes. "My students didn't know there was a man up there escaping a cocoon of Irish history and Catholicism, leaving bits of that cocoon everywhere." At the beginning of his career it had never occurred to him that his own dismal upbringing in the slums of Limerick could be turned into a valuable lesson plan. Indeed, his formal training emphasized the opposite. Principals and department heads lectured him to never share anything personal. He was instructed to arouse fear and awe, to be stern, to be impossible to please--but he couldn't do it. McCourt was too likable, too interested in the students' lives, and too willing to reveal himself for their benefit as well as his own. He was a kindred spirit with more questions than answers: "Look at me: wandering late bloomer, floundering old fart, discovering in my forties what my students knew in their teens."
As he did so adroitly in his previous memoirs, Angela's Ashes and 'Tis, McCourt manages to uncover humor in nearly everything. He writes about hilarious misfires, as when he suggested (during his teacher's exam) that the students write a suicide note, as well as unorthodox assignments that turned into epiphanies for both teacher and students. A dazzling writer with a unique and compelling voice, McCourt describes the dignity and difficulties of a largely thankless profession with incisive, self-deprecating wit and uncommon perception. It may have taken him three decades to figure out how to be an effective teacher, but he ultimately saved his most valuable lesson for himself: how to be his own man. --Shawn Carkonen

Here at last in paperback is Frank McCourt's critically acclaimed and bestselling book about how his thirty-year teaching career shaped his second act as a writer. Teacher Man is also an urgent tribute to teachers everywhere. In bold and spirited prose featuring his irreverent wit and heartbreaking honesty, McCourt records the trials, triumphs and surprises of teaching in public high schools. Teacher Man shows McCourt developing his unparalleled ability to tell a great story as, five days a week, five periods per day, he works to gain the attention and respect of unruly, hormonally charged or indifferent adolescents.
For McCourt, storytelling itself is the source of salvation, and in Teacher Man the journey to redemption--and literary fame--is an exhilarating adventure.

"Nearly a decade ago Frank McCourt became an unlikely star when, at the age of sixty-six, he burst onto the literary scene with Angela's Ashes, the Pulitzer Prize -- winning memoir of his childhood in Limerick, Ireland. Then came 'Tis, his glorious account of his early years in New York. Now, here at last, is McCourt's long-awaited book about how his thirty-year teaching career shaped his second act as a writer. Teacher Man is also an urgent tribute to teachers everywhere. In bold and spirited prose featuring his irreverent wit and heartbreaking honesty, McCourt records the trials, triumphs and surprises he faces in public high schools around New York City. His methods anything but conventional, McCourt creates a lasting impact on his students through imaginative assignments (he instructs one class to write ""An Excuse Note from Adam or Eve to God""), singalongs (featuring recipe ingredients as lyrics), and field trips (imagine taking twenty-nine rowdy girls to a movie in Times Square!). McCourt struggles to find his way in the classroom and spends his evenings drinking with writers and dreaming of one day putting his own story to paper. Teacher Man shows McCourt developing his unparalleled ability to tell a great story as, five days a week, five periods per day, he works to gain the attention and respect of unruly, hormonally charged or indifferent adolescents. McCourt's rocky marriage, his failed attempt to get a Ph.D. at Trinity College, Dublin, and his repeated firings due to his propensity to talk back to his superiors ironically lead him to New York's most prestigious school, Stuyvesant High School, where he finally finds a place and a voice. ""Doggedness,"" he says, is ""not as glamorous as ambition or talent or intellect or charm, but still the one thing that got me through the days and nights."" For McCourt, storytelling itself is the source of salvation, and in Teacher Man the journey to redemption -- and literary fame -- is an exhilarating adventure. "
Customer Reviews:
Teacher Man - Slightly Disappointing.......2007-09-18
Frank McCourt's poverty-stricken youth in Limerick, Ireland, so aptly described in the Pulitzer Prize winning Angela's Ashes actually comes to his rescue in his chronicles in Teacher Man in New York City's public high schools. His first day as a high school English teacher at a vocational school on Staten Island is a whirlwind of confusing strangeness, as if he just stepped off the boat all over again. His college education did not prepare him for these exuberant adolescents, the likes of which he never knew in Ireland because he left school at thirteen to help support his mother and brothers. His stories saved him: the rambunctious adolescents, who spoke a seemingly foreign language and behaved according to the rules their own secret, sub-cultural sect, actually sat down and listened when he told them his stories. Magic. The magic of good storytelling.
This magic spell of the storyteller saves Teacher Man from the ill effects of its lack of depth. Humorous anecdotes compensate for the absence of substance in the classroom. Indeed, McCourt accomplishes much in revealing the daily struggle of teachers, an "in the trenches" portrait of five classes a day with over 150 students. Clearly, the author describes the plight of the overworked, underpaid educator, a member of the "downstairs maid of professions", and readers will sympathize. But, the realities of sandwich throwing, wisecracks, and requests for "the pass" to use the bathroom overwhelm the lesson plans. And so, especially at the start of his career, Mr. McCourt regaled them with stories simply to keep them quiet. Although silence is valuable in the classroom, the curriculum must be addressed as well.
To his credit, McCourt does learn to become a good, perhaps even a great, teacher. Small snippets early on hint that he does possess the natural talent to translate confusing concepts into analogies his students can comprehend. For example, one epiphany relates his discovery that "grammar is the way language works" just like psychology is the way a person's mind works. Students get this, just like they understand the structure is like the structure of a ballpoint pen - both need something to make it work. A pen needs a spring like a sentence needs a verb. Another brilliant idea that sets his students to work is the "excuse note" writing exercise. After a hilarious study of their own excuse notes, many of which are forged, Teacher Man asks his students to write excuses from Adam and Eve to God, from Al Capone to the authorities, from Hitler to the Jews. These bursts of inspiration compensate for the drudgery, such as correcting mountains of compositions (170 students multiplied by 500 words each) that amount to reading the Encyclopedia Britannica.
McCourt's career contains segments of unemployment, the acquisition of his Masters degree, and a failure in attaining his Doctorate at Trinity College in Dublin. Interspersed throughout the memoir, the author includes both humorous and depressing incidents concerning his personal life, including an unsatisfying marriage and a bout of psychotherapy. McCourt reaches his stride as a teacher (not a "taskmaster") at the prestigious Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan, where his principal encourages him to be innovative and his creative writing classes spawn ingenious techniques to motivate his students. Students sing recipes and learn to write stories others want to listen to. In 1976 Mr. McCourt earns an award as one of America's Teachers of the Year.
Although Teacher Man may lack pedagogical content, the memoir entertains and causes one to consider the problems of the American educational system and the difficulties teachers encounter on a day-to-day basis. The author maintains an open mind and always learns from his students. He learns that being honest is paramount as a teacher. His honesty prompts him to tell his life's story, and in doing so, his students are motivated to write honestly themselves. For that alone, Frank McCourt deserves the accolade of Teacher Man.
school'd.......2007-09-18
Teacher Man was I think the best of the three. You have so much sympathy for Frank as he tries to teach America's youth while being teased for his "Irish Brogue" the fenetic spelling of how the kid's talk easily let's you hear the dialogue in your head, as well as get a real feel for their cultural backround, the Mexicans, the Italians, the Blacks it's fantastic, I'd say that book taught me a thing or two about life in general.
"Listen. Are you listening? You're not listening".......2007-09-12
A smile. A reminiscence of the good old school days. How many times did our teachers address us with that remark? If you are a teacher, how often did/do you say it to your students? Countless times. Mr. McCourt recounts his 30+ years as a teacher in various high schools in New York. For those of you who were, are or will be teachers, and for those who were, or are students, or if you simply like real-life stories, this is the book for you.
Honing his teacher's skills as the years went by, Mr. McCourt delivers a true insight of life in the classroom, with its laughs, its tears, its frustrations, its joys. This book is constellated with memories of his past, which he would often talk about to his pupils who always listened avidly and eagerly and were encouraged, in turn, to open up and believe in themselves.
His passion for teaching is all there in those laughs, tears, frustrations and joys. Unquestionably, teaching was what Mr. McCourt was meant to do, no matter how undervalued a profession it often was/is, but if you love it, that passion is the fuel igniting everything.
His writing is, as usual, witty, harrowing, poignant and humorous at the same time. He explores his own weaknesses and strengths squarely, learning as he teaches, facing hundreds of challenging minds every day.
After "Angela's Ashes" and " 'Tis ", this is perceived by the author as the last book about himself. Should it be the case, please allow me to quote him once again by saying that I'm so glad that he "sang his song, danced his dance, told his tale". Auspiciously, he'll write some more.
Boring.......2007-09-05
One of the most boring books I've ever read. I had to force myself to keep on reading, then when I started just skipping large sections of it I knew it was time to quit. I didn't finish it and I'm not sorry!
teachers need to be heard.......2007-08-26
As a teacher of 30 years I enjoyed Frank's book. Having read his previous 2 books, I eagerly awaited this publication. I was slightly disappointed that Teacher Man dealt more with Frank than the kids. It also did not display much of a critical analysis of our educational system. A new publication, Tales of the Dolly Llama, by Guy Kuttner, gets more to the heart and the core of both the system and the travails that kids and their parents encounter in dealing with this monolith we call the Public School System. If you liked Frank's book, you'll adore Guy's.

Tools and Textbook...too many errors.......2007-04-19
This book was used for an intermediate forensics course and it was a terrible combination. I don't know if the authors bothered to validate their procedures with the tools, but neither worked well. We spent almost as much time trying to get the tools to work as we did actually performing investigations. Not only that, but the answers to some of the problems were incorrect. Bad choice of textbook for a college course !
It is introduction to Computer Forensics.......2006-08-27
This is a textbook for computer forensics. It should be introduction to computer forensics. The book discuss overview of procedures and expectations of a computer forensic investigator. The technical sections in the book uses software to find information. Unfortunately, this information is basic and review for computer nerds.
THIS IS AN UPDATE. I just finished using this book for my class. We went through all 14 chapters: the CD is missing files, and the documentation is not in-sync with the demo software. The school contacted Course and Course is still trying to figure it out (maybe version 3). I am not a legal expert so I don't know if the procedures are right, but they made sense. The book focus is the process of making the extracted information legal. All the software is either demo or limited version. Majority of the projects uses Drivespy which function uses DOS (Win 9x). Sorry, you are out-of-luck if you don't have Win 9x computer. They have limited version of Forsenics Toolkit that works on XP, but the book only uses on a few projects.
Wrong Book to use for College Course!.......2006-04-02
College Professors Listen Up! This is not the book to use for teaching Computer Forensics and Investigation. I am a student in a graduate course for Computer Forensics. The fact that this book uses strictly commercial software for all the exercises is sad. Especially since there are many Open Source tools available that can be used to conduct Computer Forensics. The software included with this book requires that the buyer obtain a license from the vendor, before the software can be used. Then the license is only good for 120 days. This is not fair to the buyer especially for students, who usually have no intent of keeping the book past the end of the semester. It would be better to use a book for the class that the students would find worth keeping for the long term. Also, a book that uses Open Source tools for the examples/exercises, would provide much more value to the students. A much better book to use would be 'Incident Response and Computer Forensics, 2nd Ed' by Chri Prosise, Kevin Mandia and Matt Pepe. If this book does not suite you, then I am sure that you can find another book to use.
This book is better than the previous edition, but there are still problems with the information. As another student posted about a case project. The evidence proved the employee innocent. This is just the beginning of other problems that you will find with the book.
Buy at your own risk!
Only read it a little.......2006-03-24
I am a complete novice at computer forensics (CF). I am taking a technical college course in CF for which this was the required textbook as I write this. I wrote this review so Amazon would stop pestering me with emails asking me to write this review. I haven't finished the course or the book yet but in the absence of any other reviews maybe my experience will help others.
So far I am through chapter 5. The book seems pretty good except for a couple of minor issues. Many CF software such as Drivespy requires commands entered from the DOS command line. The way the DOS commands are printed in the book it can be hard to tell where spaces are required in a given command, with the result that sometimes we were unable to type the commands correctly, which meant that the commands would not execute. It took us some experimenting to figure out the correct command, since like many computer users, we are not that familiar with DOS anymore.
Also, there is a sample problem in chapter 4 I believe involving processing a disk to recover information supplied by the writers of the book about whether a fictitious employee was operating a business on company time. The information we recovered was supposed to confirm that the employee was doing so, but the information we actually recovered indicated that he was not, so we aren't sure what that was supposed to mean.
My course instructor was very enthusiastic about this book, but she is a novice at instructing CF courses as well. I hope that this helps anyone interested in the book and stops Amazon from sending me those emails. When I finish the course I will try to post a further review.
Great book........2006-02-18
The book explains in good detail about computer forensics and investigations. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to look into this field of study.
Book Description
As with any burgeoning technology that enjoys commercial attention, the use of data mining is surrounded by a great deal of hype. Exaggerated reports tell of secrets that can be uncovered by setting algorithms loose on oceans of data. But there is no magic in machine learning, no hidden power, no alchemy. Instead there is an identifiable body of practical techniques that can extract useful information from raw data. This book describes these techniques and shows how they work.
The book is a major revision of the first edition that appeared in 1999. While the basic core remains the same, it has been updated to reflect the changes that have taken place over five years, and now has nearly double the references. The highlights for the new edition include thirty new technique sections; an enhanced Weka machine learning workbench, which now features an interactive interface; comprehensive information on neural networks; a new section on Bayesian networks; plus much more.
* Algorithmic methods at the heart of successful data miningincluding tried and true techniques as well as leading edge methods
* Performance improvement techniques that work by transforming the input or output
* Downloadable Weka, a collection of machine learning algorithms for data mining tasks, including tools for data pre-processing, classification, regression, clustering, association rules, and visualizationin a new, interactive interface

A great introduction to data mining and machine learning.......2007-07-24
I bought this book in the hopes that it would help me better explore the data from the Netflix Prize contest, which it did. I had been reading numerous Wikipedia articles, scientific papers, etc. on line and felt it would be useful to have a more general tome on the subject. This book covers many of the common, overarching themes i.e. clustering, neural networks, linear regression, etc. to varing degree. I only wish the examples involved slightly more complex data sets and more pseudo code was provided. I suppose since the book is very closely tied to WEKA, one could always dig through the source code of that application; but I feel that the authors could have provided a bit more of the strictly algorithm relevant code in the book.
Incredibly Useful for theory and Practice.......2007-05-15
This book is by the guys who created WEKA. It covers a wide swath of machine learning without losing a dilligent reader. Then it walks the reader through using WEKA - a fantastically powerful open source tool.
Amazing.
wrong named.......2007-04-20
If "practical" means having a sample project with the theory, the name of this book is incorrectly named. With a big bunch of text or description, it is not "practical"!
Incredibly practical introduction.......2006-10-30
This book is perfect if you are trying to get your hands around what data mining and machine learning is. Most of the books I have read on this subject want to start with equations and get more complex from there, with little practicality. This book makes extensive use of examples and introduces the mathematical basis for algorithms where needed. The authors make the point that simpler algoritms often work best for solving machine learning problems. Similarly, I would argue, simpler books work best for understanding highly complex fields. I very highly recommend this book.

Sinning again.......2006-05-19
Call it "noir meets Kill Bill." Frank Miller stripped comic art to the bone in his "Sin City" series, which takes place in the fictional "Basin City," where corruption is the rule and life is cheap.
It's a gritty, dark, edgy series with several interwoven stories, and artwork that give no distraction from the rocky stories. And this collector's edition contains the last volumes of the series, plus the added "Art of" but with the bloody, gritty storytelling amped up with the greater quality of the publication.
Dwight returns in "Family Values," arriving at an old diner and finding that someone shot up the place. Turns out an Old Town prostitute was murdered by a Mafia shooter, and now Dwight is on the warpath. Accompanying him is rollerblading ninja/assassin/prostitute Miho, as he works his way to the top of the powerful Mob...
"Booze, Broads and Bullets" is a short story collection, full of little gritty vignettes. It provides little insights into the characters -- among other stories: Dwight rescues a beautiful mystery woman, Marv rescues a little girl from sex slavery, the lethal Delia lures in men for sinister purposes, and a pair of dumb crooks debate whether to steal a corpse's boots.
"Hell and Back" is the end of the "Sin City" series... so far. It introduces us to Wallace, a shaggy artist who also happens to be a Vietnam veteran. He saves a stunning starlet named Esther, and goes out for a drink with her... only to be drugged and tricked by a mystery woman when he awakes. As he struggles to rescue Esther from her kidnappers, he discovers the gruesome reason they want her.
Finally there is the "Art of Sin City" book, which fills out the boxed set. To non-collectors, it's not much of a thrill, especially since most of the artwork has appeared in the graphic novels. But since this boxed edition is meant for collectors, they might want this for the complete set, despite its scanty new material.
Anyone who has seen the excellent "Sin City" movie will know what to expect -- a bloody, stark, lawless retro-noir story, with a lot of killing, sex and revenge. Wallace puts it well at the end of "Hell and Back": "That rotten town. Those it can't corrupt, it soils. Those it can't soil, it kills."
So what kind of boxed set is this? A collector's set, not the type you take off the shelf and flip through, but the kind you dust, admire, and occasionally show proudly to fellow graphic novel geeks. But if you were to flip through it, you would find fine-quality paper, tight hardcover bindings, and Miller's artwork sitting in the middle of it, looking better than ever.
Normally I would think that a black-and-white comic, with only the odd splashes of colour, would be wasted on the paper here. But it actually adds definition to Miller's stark artwork, and makes it leap off the page. Whether black-and-white or with the odd bit of colour, it's very striking just to look at.
The second boxed set of Frank Miller's "Sin City" continues the noir comic, and adds an extra artwork book for completists. Dark, edgy and beautifully bound.

Book Description
DC Comics Absolute Editions set the standard for the highest quality, most in-depth presentation of classic graphic novels. Each oversized volume is presented in a slipcase and includes unique additional material making each Absolute Edition a cornerstone of any serious comic collection.
On its publication in 1986, Frank Miller's THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS changed the landscape of the graphic novel irrevocably. With its dark vision of Batman's future and its stunning artwork, THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS set the world on fire. 15 years later, Miller's sequel, THE DARK KNIGHT STRIKES AGAIN, further redefined the boundaries of the superhero genre.
Now, both of these comics masterpieces are collected in one giant-sized slipcase edition for the first time ever. Frank Miller has provided a new introduction, a new cover and new art for the slipcase. This edition is also filled with bonus material featuring an excerpt from Miller's original plot for DARK KNIGHT RETURNS #4, sketchbook material and much more.

Great Compilation.......2007-04-03
A well put together bundle of both the classic and the new graphic novels with a few extras. Very Impressive packaging (coffee table worthy).
Cost to damn much........2007-01-28
The first one was great. The second one...I think that Frank Miller read "Kingdom Come" and said "I can do better!".
Only problem is. He didn't.
Once Amazon dropped their discount this is no longer worth it. Buy it if you love Frank Miller but buy it somewhere else.
BOTH Worthy Reads.......2007-01-27
Everybody knows TDKR was a phenominal book. What everybody doesn't know is that The Dark Knight Strikes Again is ALSO a phenominal book. Many readers have their opinions warped by superficial comic book reviewers who critique Miller's sequel because it was not as "dark" or "gritty" as the first book was. Is that it? Is that you're only complaint? Are you so ignorant that you're not going to delve underneath the appearances to look at the thematic significance of the work?
Yes, TDKSA is a departure from its predecessor in terms of style. But it still shines in RELEVENCY. Miller gives us a mind blowing look at what our society is and may become. What is democracy in the media age? Do the people really run a country where a select few that run the major news outlets control everything that the people know and believe? And does it make us feel any better that it is one man, Batman, who is arrogant enough to enforce his social ideology on us?
Don't be fooled. While The Dark Knight Returns is still a significant work in today's literary work, it was a book about yesterday. The Dark Knight Strikes Again is a book about TODAY.
Great Batman book.......2007-01-16
I love Batman and this book is realy great its one of the best books I own you should buy it.
Half good, half ordinary.......2007-01-16
I can distinctly remember the pleasure I had reading the original Return of the Dark Knight issues way, way back. A massive, high quality volume like Absolute Dark Knight is fitting for a such body of work. Sadly, the second part is _much_ less interesting in most respects.
