5 out of 5 stars ending!!.......2004-10-02

The CCS saga ends with this. No magic changing in this volume. Only Sakura struggling with her emotions and Syaoran returning home. That's basically it. The front and back pictures are great. It's better in color though.

5 out of 5 stars working my way through the series..........2004-06-09

In this book, several characters are leaving. Eriol is going back to England, and Syaoran Li is going back to Hong Kong. Sakura finally has to decide what she really feels for Li. As usual, the most interesting thing about this series is the relationships - if the series were just about capturing cards, I would have stopped reading a long time ago. I loved this volume, because reading about Sakura as she works through her feelings was very interesting. The artwork is still beautiful, and I definitely recommend this book. I think it would probably be best to read this volume after reading at least some of the previous volumes. There is a "the story thus far" section, as well as some information about each of the main characters, but you might still miss out on the emotional impact of this book if you begin with it.

4 out of 5 stars For Younger Manga Readers Only..........2004-05-16

The Cardcaptor Sakura series is definitely for younger readers only. The whole concept of the series is about a magical girl (Sakura) who spends her time catching cards.
This is the final installment, which is very similar from the Cardcaptor Sakura anime, however the ending is quite different.
The "Original Manga" style means you read it backwards (right to left) which could be challenging for some kids to read like that.
The whole book, in a nutshell, is really, for kids aged 7-11 who are reading manga for the first time.
If your over 13 this book may not be for you. However if you like or obsessed with mangas with fairtale endings, you could buy this book. It takes around 5-15 minutes to read, cute it may be, it's not that much as a thriller, as it is predictable.
If you're 13+ I suggest reading All-New Tenchi Muyo: Alien Nation. It may have a "darker" plot, it seems more "teenage" reading on the whole.
The CCS manga contains nothing seriously explicit, meaning it's suitable for all ages. Why the anime DVDs are rated PG-13, I don't know.
If your 7-9 you'll love it. If you're 9-10 you'll find it mediocre. if you're 11+, this might be a bit of a bore. If you're anime-crazed with cutesy talking bears (Kero) or a girl in pink dresses (Sakura), you might be able to "enjoy" this book. But it's totally you're call.

4 out of 5 stars cute!!!!!!!!!!.......2003-11-22

I love this book it's so cute this one won't have much card captoring in it and cardcaptor fans know why.don't read this if you have not already read volumes 1-5 or you will spoil a great ending.tokeyo pop does it again!!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Sakura and Syaoran: Major Angst Alert!!!.......2003-11-16

CLAMP have done it again. Another beautiful book, the end of Cardcaptor Sakura. This book focused on the relationships of Cardcaptor Sakura and brings them all to a close. Everyone is shown with their loved one. Fujitaka and Nadeshiko are reunited, we are shown that Eriol and Kaho are together, as are Rika and Mr Terada, Chiharu and Yamazaki, and Eriol tells us that Yukito chose Touya to be his first love (although we already knew that from book 4), and since Touya sacrificed his magic to save Yuki and he touches Yuki's face a LOT when they talk we can assume he feels the same way. So everyone has their special, number one person except... Sakura and Syaoran. So Syaoran finally confesses... we could see this was coming, but CLAMP twists it into angst territory. I am not going to say too much, but there is a lot of angst, and then a happy ending of course!! My one disappointment was how little Touya and Yukito appear in this book, but then I am a manic Touya and Yuki fangirl, so that is probably just me. A beautiful end to a beautiful series. And this is coming from someone who hates romance novels or movies. This is the only thing vaguely near romance I can stand, and that is because CLAMP is so skilled at injecting just the right level of sappiness into it. :) And who can resist Yue at the beginning when he is sulking and Eriol is talking to him?

5 out of 5 stars The best volume of Sakura, hands down!.......2006-01-15

NOTE! I am actually seventeen, but I'm also lazy and didn't want to do all that extra work. ^_^ My review is below.

From the very first page--which shows Sakura crying over her brother's loss of magical power *cough*Yue's fault*cough*--to the last, you will be hooked on this volume. I speak from experience. It is the absolute cutest volume of the entire twelve-book series. There are no flaws in it whatsoever. *SPOILER!* My favorite part is where Sakura-chan finally confesses her love to Yukito-san. *SPOILER'S END* But anyway, please pick up the original first six, read them, read Master of the Clow 1-3, then take a deep breath and read this one. I was absolutely thrilled with my purchase, and I have a feeling you will be, too! Elissachan has spoken.

5 out of 5 stars Very cute........2005-11-25

Card captors is about a 5th grader girl with the magic of the clow cards which are these cards that each have there own magic. When Sakura relizes the clow master is going to die she must find out the 2 yes 2 people who will take his place. It is pretty easy to guess who they are but still reading the books is still alot of fun. Very cute books. Like in the second book Sakura gets attacked by a giant teddy bear! The art is great too.Great book for all ages and Tokyo mew mew and Salior Moon fans.(to tell you the truth I like this book even more then Salior Moon ^_^!)

5 out of 5 stars more cardcaptor, please.......2004-07-03

I will read them all! By the time I'm done, the sweetness of the series will probably have rotted my teeth out, but at least I will be a happy toothless person. In this book, Sakura finally deals with her feelings for Yukito, along with the usual battling of the Clow Cards. Sakura's talk with Li about her feelings for Yukito was, I think, the best reason to have this book. The Cardcaptor books always make me smile, even during a reread, which is as good a reason as any to get something, I think.

5 out of 5 stars the best.......2003-11-22

This is the best book in the cardcaptor collection.Sakura tells Yukito that she loves him but finds out that she does not love him in a #1 kind of way but as a father.Li helps her fell better .She desides to make a kinmoyo for him so that Li can go to a festivel with her and Tomoyo(my favoite character)you'll love this book if you're a card captor fan.

5 out of 5 stars This series is great!.......2003-10-13

This continues along from the plots in the previous comic, which you should get before purchasing this or you'll be lost.
Summary:
The Tomoda kids host a cafe. There, Sakura confesses her feelings to Yukito. And then we can't forget about Clow Reed, who continues to test her. Later, we find out about Clow Reed, Kero, and Yue's past. If you want to find out about more stuff leading to the next book.

5 out of 5 stars can't wait to read more.......2004-06-09

In this volume, Sakura has to have one final battle against Clow Reed. It confuses her, because she has no idea why he would want to fight her, since he chose her to be Master of the Clow. This book is very interesting, because this is where Sakura finds out everything about Clow Reed's reasons for fighting her, as well has the connections that other people she knows have to him. This book has a lot of Yue, who is one of my favorites, for totally shallow reasons. Reading about Syaoran Li's continued hidden love for Sakura is also a lot of fun. It would probably be good to have read some of the previous books in the series, although I certainly haven't been reading them in order. I definitely recommend this volume.

5 out of 5 stars Nearing the end of a beautiful adventure.......2003-09-11

I'm assuming that you have bought the first volumes of the Master of the Clow series if you are buying this one, hence SPOILERS for earlier parts of the series. Okay!

In this volume, the last-but-one of the Cardcaptor Sakura series, we get the conclusion of Sakura's outward battles to convert the Clow Cards into Star Cards, and the climactic battle between herself and Eriol (who we already know is the one causing problems for her).

As well as the battle (which is pretty spectacular- but then, this IS Clamp we're talking about), we find out the reasons behind what Eriol was doing, and a major plot twist that was not in the anime- this was something that caught me completely by surprise, as I'd seen the anime before reading the manga.

Personally, I don't understand why this twist wasn't put into the anime, but oh well, I really appreciated it here. ^_^

There is some development of the ongoing 'situation' between Syaoran and Sakura as well, and the ending of this volume leaves you waiting for a conclusion of all of Sakura's- and the other characters'- inner, abstract battles and worries, now that the more tangible ones have been finished with.

It's the anticipation of these other loose ends of the series- the relationships and couplings that have been previously hinted at or developed- that will leave you dying for the final volume (it did with me, anyway), so I'd advise you to get volume 6 at the same time as this one, if you can.

There isn't really much else to say: the artwork is just as beautiful as all the rest of this series, and there is just as much cuteness, though perhaps a little more action and seriousness compared to other volumes in the series, since this *does* cover the 'final battle', as it were.

Ah, and the bonus card in this one is of Clow Reed, in case you were wondering.

If you're following this manga series, you certainly can't go without this volume. A must-have for all Clamp and Sakura fans. ^_^

5 out of 5 stars The Beginning of the End.......2003-08-18

Secrets are revealed as the final battle takes place! Eriol, Spinel Sun, Ruby Moon, and their plans reveal themselves. In order to save the town, her family, her friends, and her guardians, Sakura must find a way to change the last two cards into her own. Can she do it or will everyone sleep forever?

One of the best CCS books ever a a must read for any fan! Read to find out what happens to Sakura in the second to last installment of Cardcaptor Sakura! Enjoy!

SF : THIS REVIEW IS RATED SPOILER-FREE

If you've already got 1 & 2 of this arc of sakura stories, you'll be pleased to hear it gets better! (impossible as it may seem)
Sakura is beginning to finally get her head round what it means to be a Clow Master, but still has much to learn. Meanwhile, a very shrewd Tomoyo is still pestering Li about his feelings for Sakura. Sure enough, he FINALLY plucks up the courage to tell her as Tomoyo suggested, but stuff begins to get in the way (typical), much to our amusement. Personally, my favourite part of the book was when Sakura was attacked by sheep down that dark hole. How can i forget?!? "What happens to Yukito?" i hear you cry, and, as promised by book two, Yuki begins to fall into a bit of trouble. There's a kinda 'how will they do it?' thing going on, but i recommend you don't read any spoiler reviews: i did and it ruined the reading (but it was still fantastic). I would recommend getting 4 and 5 along with this, else you may suffer withdrawal symptons whilst waiting for them to come one by one.
thanks for reading,
Xx*Darlz*xX

5 out of 5 stars love this series.......2004-06-09

Okay, so it wasn't so long ago that I sneered at the thought of Cardcaptor Sakura, but that was before I knew anything about it. Now I can't read the books fast enough! In this book, Clow Reed once again tests Sakura. The relationships between the characters has always been the most interesting thing for me in this series. Syaoran is still trying to work up the courage to tell Sakura what his feelings for her are, and Toya and Yukito's relationship gets developed more. Toya has to do something, because Yue is fading away, and if he fades, then Yukito (Yue's temporary form) will go too.

Once again, the artwork is lovely - it's really detailed! The right-to-left format, which is the format that the comic was originally in, can take some getting used to if you haven't dealt with it before, but the back of the book gives instructions for reading this format. The original sound effects characters have also been preserved, although, unfortunately, there is no translation provided for those characters. Mostly, this doesn't matter to me, but sometimes it would be nice to know what the sound effect was supposed to be. Still, I definitely recommend picking this book up, or at least getting started on the series, because it's worth it.

5 out of 5 stars The best CLAMP series, the best Cardcaptor Sakura book!!.......2003-11-16

I will list the reasons why this is a series that everyone should read this book and this entire series:
1) CLAMPs drawings are beautiful. Without fault. And the chibis are really dinky *huggles chibi Yue*
2) Chibi Yue with question mark over his head near the end (so cute!!)
3) All the characters have their original Japanese names *yay*
4) It is not a childrens' series, it is suitable for all ages because there is no older content but the plot can be appreciated by anyone
5) This is the book where Yukito is fading away *sob* so there is a whole "How will he be saved?" thing going on... this book answers that question!!
6) Syaoran is so cute when he is in love with Sakura
7) The end scene is really beautiful, and there is a fair amount of Touya and Yukito sappiness *yippee* in a way that only CLAMP can pull off
8) Nakuru Akizuki is annoying Touya in this one!! (although not as much as the previous two) And she is such a funny character... she should be in the books more

9) The heroinne isn't annoying, or spoilt, in fact she is sweet, innocent, yet strangely mature and selfless without being pious. She is instantly likeable, as are all the characters in their own way.
10) There isn't much in the way of battles in any of the books, just enough to keep it fresh and different, and then the rest is concentrating on their relationships. When I first read CCS, I was amazed how different to Magic Knight Rayearth (a previous work of CLAMPs) it was, because in MKR there is an awful lot of battle time clocking up and it gets boring, whereas CCS battles are always funny and inventive because they are interspersed with Tomoyo's adoring comments about Sakura and her outfits (and does anyone remember the time Sakura was attacked with stuffed sheep while in a sheep costume?!?)

Unlinke many mangas, all the characters in CCS have their own little quirks that make them interesting, even the characters who appear for about three lines or so a book. Each character is so well fleshed out that the world described seems vibrant and full of life, and so these books are a joy to read. CLAMP really designed the plot well, and I look forward to watching the anime (not Cardcaptors) and reading CLAMPs new work Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, which contains characters from different CLAMP mangas including Syaoran, Sakura, Touya, Yukito, Tomoyo and Fujitaka from CCS, or so I believe.

5 out of 5 stars I love this book!.......2003-07-30

I think this " MASTER OF THE CLOW" story arc is alot better than the first CAPTURING CLOW CARDS" arc. The reasons are why are because:
1. It's "AUTHENTIC MANGA" in right to left format and it's more cool since it's the way the people in Japan make/read them.
2. The CLAMP group put little japanese laanguage tidbits in these.
4. I like how the CLAMP group made the front of these, with it kind of looking like CLOW CARD, and Sakura being the picture in the middle.
5. The events roll by faster.
6. This second arc has a lot more suspenceful events than the first arc.
Now, onto my review:
In the first chapter:
The holiday is White Day, and everyone is getting/giving presents.
In the second chapter:
Clow Reed tests Sakura again.
In the third chapter:
Clow Reed tests Sakura again.
In the fourth chapter:
Toya gives his magis to Yue.

1 out of 5 stars The books I never got.......2007-01-23

The books are amazing, though I never got them from Amazon. After too many months of waiting, Amazon finally told me they did not have them.
Very disappointing

4 out of 5 stars I haven't found a cuter boy x girl series yet!.......2007-01-22

Please note this is just Volume 1 of the series and not the boxset! I think Amazon has their links mixed up as everyone else is reviewing this as the First Box Set of the Cardcaptor Sakura Manga Set. It isn't! For proof, the 1st Box Set is $21 and this is just $10, hint hint, it's just one Manga.

What to say about this adorable series? Well for a start it is different to the Anime version. I've only watched the American version and didn't see anything wrong with it, but I am planning on buying the Japanese version so I may have a different opinion when I own it.

The story is pretty basic; Sakura is an average (Japanese) 10 year old (very different from American kids!) in love with her older brother's best friend, but that changes when she gets finds the Clow Book in her father's basement and releases the Clow Cards upon the world...well around the city anyway. Having only 1 card left in her pocession, Kero the Guardian of the Cards demands Sakura recapture the cards one by one in order to restore peace. And this is where the Manga begins: Sakura is capturing her third card; the Jump Card. Already with Earth and Windy in her grasp, she also captures Watery and Illusion in this Volume.

The only problem I found with it was Sakura's constent referring to Yukito, she's obsessed with her brother's best friend. That got a little silly.

The Art is lovely and the cute storyline makes it stick out. I think everyone has at least heard of Cardcaptor Sakura. I might as well point out, this is the original Manga Right-to-Left unlike Tokyopop's first -edited- version.

There were also rumors in Japan that Yuna was based loosely off Sakura and her urge to collect Aeon's.

Overall I think this is a wonderful Manga for smaller kids; boys or girls to start them into Japanese Grpahic Novels.

4 out of 5 stars RETURNING CARDS TO THE CLOW.......2006-02-03

Sakura Kinomoto, a Japanese fourth grader at Tomoeda Elementary, has been thrust into her destiny with the discovery of the "The Clow", a book of magic which contains the powerful "Clow Cards". These magical cards were imbued with the sorcery of the great magician, Clow Reed. Unfortunately, Sakura had no idea what she was doing when she opened it and the cards have been scattered all through the city. It's not totally her fault since Cerberus, or Kero-chan, the guardian of the book was napping on the job. Now, not only are the living cards wreaking havoc, but he has lost most of his power and now displays his weakness in the form of a winged lion cub with an Osakan accent. Dubbing Sakura a "Cardcaptor", its up to the duo to find all the cards before the spirits contained within them hurt someone. They won't be alone though. Tagging along for the adventure is Tomoya, Sakura's classmate and best buddy, whose ultra-rich mother will supply the dough for neat gadgets right out of James Bond, and also a constant line-up of costumes. Add to that Tomoya's video documenting of Sakura's exploits and the adventure begins!

There's not a lot of originality in Cardcaptor Sakura. It's not her fault that Sakura has to conform to the magical girl mythos of transformation and battle scenes with sometimes barely scary spirits. One of the things that makes this book more interesting is the absence of Sakura's mother who died many years ago. Her at times melancholy thoughts of this relationship that never had time to blossom really informs everything she does, especially when she thinks she sees her mother disturbing the living as a ghostly apparition. I also enjoyed the pluck and innocence of most of the storyline as Sakura takes on the daunting task of being a Cardcaptor with hardly a protest to atone for her mistake. The action scenes were done well and the manga as a whole has great art which at times seems uber-cute but can be creepy and spooky at other times. Perhaps the creepiest thing about it is that the male characters all seem like castrated geldings and have an odd capacity to invade the space of traditional Japanese women.

4 out of 5 stars Must Buy.......2005-09-01

This item is worth buying b/c the art is beautiful, stories are great, and the box is beautiful and sturdy. But b/c I had watched most of the anime episodes, the only thing I was quite disappointed in is that the books had secluded other episodes. But over all, it is quite a good buy. Collectors should definitely buy it, the second boxed set too. Each box set includes three books, along with a very nice Cardcaptor Sakura bookmark in each (book). This item is a must buy if you are a Cardcaptor fan. Also, you might want to check out other Cardcaptor items, such as Movie 1 and 2 (DVD), DVD Volumes, and Cardcaptor Sakura: Master of the Clow (Manga--sold individually).

5 out of 5 stars A perfect release for a perfect manga!.......2005-06-15

Cardcaptor Sakura was the first CLAMP series I ever read and it continues to remain my all-time personal favorite mahou shoujo manga. I just love everything about this series! All the characters are loveable, you even get attached to the characters that you start off hating at first! Sakura also breaks all the stereotypical mahou shoujo heroines! Most heroines are usually very clumsy, always late to school, like to procrastinate, and drool over every single guy they see, but Sakura is actually quite atheletic, usually on time, does fairly average at school, and the only boy she has a crush on is her brother's best friend, Yukito. She doesn't rush into battle without any plan of attack yet come out completely unscathed, unlike most mahou shoujo heronies, either. Sakura actually plans a strategy to capture the Clow Cards, proving that she has brains as well as guts!

The best example I can think of for this is in the Watery card chapter of the manga. Sakura has to capture the really powerful Elemental card, Watery, but at this point in the series she only has three Clow Cards she can use to capture it with, and none of them are powerful enough to do it on their own. So, Sakura lures the Watery card into her school freezer with the Fly card, then freezes it by trapping it with the Windy card and is finally able to capture it! Cardcaptor Sakura also doesn't bore you with lengthy transformation sequences or "I will punish you" speeches either, as Sakura relies on her best friend Tomoyo to design all of her battle costumes for her, which can also provide plenty of cosplay ideas! The artwork is really good too, as always with CLAMP, and the pacing of this series is perfect! Not once did I ever feel that the storyline was rushed or dragging! Although Cardcaptor Sakura does follow a formulatic approach at times, there are plenty of plot twists to keep the reader always on the edge of your seat and some of the chapters don't even involve Sakura capturing the Clow Cards at all! Heck, even the entire last volume of the manga has practically no magic in it, which goes to show that Cardcaptor Sakura is more about its storyline and characters rather than action.

While personally I prefer the anime's version ending, the manga's ending wrapped things up nicely and is probably one of the sweetest CLAMP endings I've ever read. Not only is this an excellent series, but Tokyopop has even given this manga a five-star re-release! When the Cardcaptor Sakura manga was originally released in English, Mixxzine flipped all of the artwork, Americanized a lot of Japanese food and the dialog, changed it so that everyone called Yukito "Yuki" instead of just Touya, goofed up on what Shaoran's surname was, mispelt Mizuki-sensei's name as "Mitsuki-sensei", replaced any Japanese text with English text, and generally did a sloppy job on it.

However, this re-release fixes all of those problems! Not only is the artwork unflipped and the translation revised, but they even got the characters' names right, left in all of the original Japanese culture (and included a nifty culture encyclopedia in the back for newbies), and even left in all of the Japanese honorofics! This is probably the best English manga release I've ever seen! Sigh, if only all manga was released like this. Anyway, Cardcaptor Sakura is a fantastic manga that surely won't disappoint you, especially with this perfect English release! Cardcaptor Sakura is a good introduction to CLAMP because it features all the important themes of friendship and love that are practically staples of CLAMP manga without a lot of the angst stuff you usually find in their series. It's also a good introduction to anime and manga in general with it's not overly-simplistic yet not overly-complex storylines! Cardcaptor Sakura is undoubtedly a classic series that any self-respecting anime and manga fan abosuletly has to read! If you haven't read it yet, go pick it up now! If you've already read the flipped manga of this series and are unsatifised with the quality of it, show your support for unflipped manga by buying this perfect English re-release today! And if you liked Cardcaptor Sakura, you may also like Sailor Moon or Tokyo Mew Mew!

THAT'S better--get THAT.
I complement that all the way!! Go CCS box set!

5 out of 5 stars Looks Good!.......2005-05-18

This book looks good! I have the Cardcaptor Sakura: Master of the Clow, and those were awsome. But for the people who say this book is 'inapropriate' and it has 'language', lookit the rating!!
Young adult means teen. T for teen. Get it?

4 out of 5 stars Cute.......2004-10-23

Cadcaptor Sakura is a cool series about a girl whose goal is to re-collect magical cards that she accidently released from an ancient book, with the help of a pixie-like creature she also released from the book, Keroberos, or Kero for short. The neat costumes Sakura's best friend makes for her to fight evil in are flashy, lacey, and fluffy dresses with matching hats. The characters are memorable, and each has something to offer. The Clow Cards pose a threat, but not so much of one that you can't enjoy Sakura's life outside of battle.

Overall, I would say THIS book is good, but the second book contains extremly mature, and...well...kind of gross content that kids shouldn't be reading. I still re-read the first and second books that I purchased because I know what to expect, and it doesn't change my opinion of the world or bother me much, but I definitely don't plan on buying any other books in this series.

I wrote this review for the first manga book, but for some reason it is being shown as a review for the second one. I'm just telling you so that you don't get the wrong idea.

3 out of 5 stars Cardcaptor Sakura.......2004-10-07

Despite the cute charecters, somewhat entertaining storyline, and amazing artwork, I think you'll find that this series is mildly innappropriate. I discovered that upon reading the second book. There was one cussword, and some elements that some parents may not approve of. I know mine didn't. I'm getting ready to try the Tokyo Mew Mew manga books, and hopefully those will be more for kids then Cardcaptor Sakura, and above all, Sailor Moon.

5 out of 5 stars more Cardcaptor goodness..........2004-07-03

I'm sure that a lot of reviewers have explained the events of this book very well, so I won't bother in my review. This series is really addictive, as long as you're okay with incredibly cute characters and character interaction. Everyone is just adorable, even when they happen to be adults. The facial expressions on all the characters are excellent. If you like one of the Cardcaptor books, I think it would be really hard not to want to get them all, since CLAMP often gives you just enough character relationship information in one book to have you wanting more. The plots of the Cardcaptor books aren't all that complex, but it's not the plots that are the most important part of the Cardcaptor series. A big part of the series is the character interactions, how everyone's relationships with others develops. That's why I keep reading the series - I want to know how things turn out with everyone!
