Book Description
"Splendid monograph, the first of major proportions in nearly thirty years
.ever thoughtful, opening the door to Friedrich's world that much wider."Chicago Tribune
Werner Hofmann vividly demonstrates Caspar David Friedrich's extraordinary ability to reproduce the natural world in faithful detail, while at the same time imbuing it with spiritual and religious significance. Caught between the near and the distant, the finite and the infinite, his human figures find a space in which to engage in the thoughtful contemplation of nature and the divine.
Carefully placing the artist in a wider context, Hofmann examines contemporary judgments and influences on Friedrich's work. The beautiful illustrations include many of Friedrich's drawings and watercolors as well as over ninety of his works in oils. 193 illustrations, 150 in color.
Customer Reviews:
I agree with "A reader": This book is sublime........2006-06-17
This should be considered indispensable to anyone interested in this artist, Romanticism, or landscape painting in general. As well as offering a carefully considered account of the artist's life and work, the text is careful to separate the myths that have grown around some of these paintings, carefully placing the artist within the context of his own time and covering the manner in which these images have been misappropriated up to the present day.
Above all, this is the most thorough and best-reproduced representation of this artist's work I have seen to date, containing not only every single painting I have seen from other studies of the artist, but also several I encountered here for the first time. I doubt this will be equalled (let alone surpassed) for many years to come.
Sublime.......2001-04-24
Werner Hofmann's new monograph on Caspar David Friedrich benefits from superb colour reproductions as well as Hofmann's own discursive brilliance.
Selections from Friedrich's letters are a neat fit, bowing to the idea that his transcendental painting ultimately eludes scholarly discourse.
This book lands with authority, passion, and a keen sense of the vistas of silence that Friedrich communicates to admirers everywhere.
A bargain. Snap it up if you come across it...
Book Description
While most can only imagine the lavish living quarters filled with fine china, dramatic drapery, and regal furniture that lie behind the iron-clad gates of the most exclusive addresses in America, Jeremiah Goodman has had the rare opportunity to enter and paint his impressions of the residences of the rich and famous for the past 54 years. Goodman's expressive watercolors not only act an archive of interior design for the second half of the 20th century, but also provide a glimpse into the artist's unique ability to infuse a depiction of domestic space with a sense of drama and emotion second only to being there. In addition to making art based on the interiors, Goodman also painted studies for rooms-to-be, creating the beautiful plans on which the rooms themselves would be based. JEREMIAH: A ROMANTIC VISION is a 210-page retrospective of Goodman's career, with over 80 plates of Goodman's work, photos and ephemera from his life, and reflections from Goodman himself. Over the span of his career, Goodman has made renderings of the homes of such influential icons as President Ronald and First Lady Nancy Reagan; legendary theatre personas Mary Martin, Sir John Gielgud, and Richard Rodgers; Baron and Baroness Philippe de Rothschild; jewelery designer Elsa Peretti; Greta Garbo; Cecil Beaton; Betsy Bloomingdale; the Duchess of Windsor; fashion designers Elsa Schiaparelli and Bill Blass; Vogue editor-in-chief and fashion icon Diana Vreeland; interior designers Billy Baldwin and Mario Buatta; and famed photographer Bruce Weber; in addition to illustrating rooms for House and Garden, The New York Times Magazine, Harper's Bazaar, and Interior Design, a publication for which Goodman illustrated each month's cover for 15 years. With an introduction by playwright Edward Albee, JEREMIAH: A ROMANTIC VISION offers a rare look at a true life of grandeur.
Customer Reviews:
ELEGANT GRANDEUR.......2007-08-03
Mr. Goodman's remarkable talent to interpret any interior as lush, dramatic, grander than grand was clearly sought after by a legion of society's prominant names. Like the american painter John Singer Sargeant, Mr. Goodman's confident handling of paints thrust the viewer into the a world of impossible glamour. Environments that boasted the highest ceilings, polished marble floors, heavy gold frames, crystal ornaments, rare fabrics covering many museum worthy pieces of furniture, forests of exotic plants all bathed in the most dramatically dappled sunlight easily transports the viewer to a dreamy never never land. We're talking rooms dressed to impress and then some! Rooms belonging to the likes of Garbo and Bruce Weber. There's a history lesson here of decorating styles thru the mid 20th century whether the space was public or private. But the strength of the book is really the spectacular painting technique and the rich, romantically luxurious point of view of the artist. In a world mostly devoid of any masterful illustrations in the popular press, to see so much wonderful work is a special treat indeed.

Customer Reviews:
The book that changed my life. .......2007-03-04
This review is written from the point of view of a licensed massage therapist who went in the business after reading this book.
First I would like to share the story of how thing book got into my hands. Everyone who has been in Provincetown, MA, will tell you it's a different town. I knew nothing about its fame when I first set my foot there which was because I was offered a job there. At the end of the season I already knew that visiting Provincetown and not getting something from a sex store was like visiting Rome and not going to see the Pope. So, set on buying a modest souvenir for myself, I marched in one of the four stores in town and looked around.
To cut the long story short, among the huge selection of accessories and books, my attention was attracted by a book labelled "The Art of Sensual Massage". I flipped through and decided to give it a shot. As a shy single lady unsure how to approach the subject of her affection, I thought that was a sensible choice. I had my souvenir and a couple of weeks to experiment the moves on friends before I became brave enough to suggest it to my crush.
It is very important to understand that this book is entitled the art of SENSUAL, not sexual massage. If you are looking for a book to teach you techniques focused on and around the loins, look elsewhere. There are a lot of tips and hints on how to make the touch intimate, private, just for you and your partner though.
A total beginner with massage, my first tries with the book on a few volunteers left me stunned. I was amazed how good it felt to them! This was also extremely satisfying to me to see the change. In a week I was hooked. In a month I was confident enough to offer it to my crush. It was a ... melting experience.
Remember: all touch feels good. That is, if you desire to touch and be touched. This book can be a very powerful tool in the hands of those who want to bring happiness and content to their partners. It presents a wonderful form of physical intimacy not involving sex. The descriptions/instruction is very clear, easy to understand, with great pointers and suggestions. There photos are quite helpful as well and the models are chosen well. The models are nude but none of what is shown is in bad taste. Have in mind that the pictures were taken a while back in time which explains why they are in black and white and of course the body hair.
The techniques described in the book are excellent. Even now, as a professional massage therapist I still use some of the techniques suggested in this book. It is not necessary to have in-depth knowledge of anatomy to practise at home and with a few exceptions, they are very safe. Massage is for pleasure, not for pain and the author does a great job conveying the idea. Here are a few hints how to improve your experience (some are mentioned in the book, some aren't).
-- Warm the oil before you start. Dipping it in the sink with hot water for 5-10 min makes all the difference in the world.
-- Work the muscles (avoid pressure on the bones).
-- Keep your hands on your partner. Stay connected and if you need to reapply oil, do it with one hand.
-- Use firm and confident strokes.
-- If you start causing pain, stop immediately.
-- Always stay off the spine, varicose veins, sprains, hurt muscle/skin.
I warmly recommend this book to caring couples who want to explore each other's sensuality and learn new ways to bring harmony, content and pleasure in their relationship. Even though I do not have the DVD to this book, I suggest you to buy it as well, especially if you have no prior experience in massage. I believe the book may be of interest even for massage therapists and their partners. It definitely won't teach them anything new technique-wise but the attitude is indeed inspiring and refreshing.
Fabulous. Everything you need is here........2002-04-09
Having purchased many massage books over the years I still find this one, my first, to be a great inspiration. Inkeles' love for massage really comes through and you are able to get right into the technique--usually a few minutes after you open the book! Beware of some of the older editions of "The Art of Sensual Massage" which were printed on low quality paper. The photos suffer. The Arcata Arts edition ... is much improved throughout and has many updates to the text.
Indeed, this truely is THE essential massage book, especially for beginners.
Great book, works on many levels.......2001-11-27
Whether you are looking for a professional masseur or a sex therapist you will LOVE this book. The techniques absolutely do not disappoint. Great relaxation through sensuality. This book is particularly easy to get into if you are a beginner in massage.
Essential if you are a massage enthusiast.......2001-08-06
This first (and still the greatest popular massage book) belongs in your library if you are serious about massage. No other book manages to teach massage so easily and with such great results. You will get compliments from your friends when you massage them. Note: this is really a couples approach, not a strictly professional one. I love this book!
Delivers great sensuality.......2001-06-16
Great book. No hype here. I was actually massaging the first night (what a date!). Highly recommended!

Excellent book.......2007-08-12
The book has beautiful photos of purses which would inspire even the least creatively challenged. There are detailed instructions, a material list, preparation, and construction instructions, and there are patterns in the back of the book(which you need to enlarge). There are at least 14 bags, all beautiful and distinct. I would highly recommend this book to anyone wants to create a lovely purse.
Great Book.......2007-06-08
Love this book. The purses are unique and different. Hope they publish another one.
Fantastic .......2007-05-29
This book is so fantastic! Just looking at it over and over is enjoyable. I went to the Ruby Tag website and found info that the the purse hardware in the book has the wrong sizes. Boy, would I have been frustrated if I hadn't found that out. There should be a sticker on the front or a bookmark or something to alert to that in case someone didn't accidently find the information at the web site. Have not been able to start on a purse since I just had surgery before the book arrived but have spent many pleasant hours thinking about the works of art that I am going to be able to create. Great Job Ladies you are so talented in your designs. Thanks...
Creating Romantic Purses: Patterns & Instructions for Unique Handbags.......2007-01-12
This is one of the most beautiful books I have ever enjoyed. The purse art is beautiful to look at and stirs your creative juices. The patterns are easy to read and understand. The ladies that created the purses in the book are very talented artists. I have already started one of the crazy quilt bags due to being inspired by this book.

Not my favorite.....................2005-10-22
This is probably my least favorite NR book to date. It does start off slow but it eventually picks up. I had a hard time really getting into these characters. The story itself is ok but overall there was just not enough there for me to give a higher score..........sorry Nora!
UGH! .......2005-10-17
I'm a big Nora fan, but I couldn't even finish this one. By the fourth chapter I began to skim. WAY WAY WAY to much detail for me. Which made it boring and slow. Testing and corrosion, is it fake, is it real ...blah blah blah. ENOUGH! I did however enjoy the side story about the brother (I forget his name). But thats it folks. Unlike ALL the other reviewers, I hated it. I say PASS on this one. But as you can see, I'm in the minority.
Just the best...........2005-10-16
Once again,Roberts delivers unforgettable characters, unlikely new twists and phenomenal descriptive narration. Ryan Boldari is one of the most adorable characters she's written, even though he's a thief he's an irristiable one. Wonderful layering, great secondary stories - brava!!
Homeport Review.......2005-10-07
This is one of the best Nora Roberts book I've read. There was a pretty good twist in the end that I didn't see coming. There were no parts that I thought was slow-reading. I was pulled in throughout the whole book and I didn't put it down until I was finished.
1999 Nora Roberts.......2005-09-19
This is mystery romance novel about stolen art and the mix of romance between the burglary and art proprietor. The secondary story of alcoholic brother and his first love had some wonderful moments. The mystery was great and I didn't have a clue who the killer was until it was unveiled. I would recommend this novel and 'The Villa' by Nora Roberts's.
Book Description
Internationally acclaimed oil painter Robert Hagan reveals his personal easy-to-learn techniques for creating sensitive, impressionistic paintings.
In his no-nonsense way, Hagan demystifies the oil painting process. Artists, no matter their level of experience, will be able to create enchanting paintings almost immediately using Hagan's unique "placement theory" and simple color system based on two "mother colors."
Readers will find 400 full-color photos that show the paintings coming together as well as the artist at work. This book also includes 8 start-to-finish painting demos, in-depth direction on how to pull together elements from various reference photos, a color palette, reference photos, sample sketches, and helpful instructions that make every project inside simple to replicate.
Customer Reviews:
It's really pretty average........2006-06-04
Ok, I suspect the other reviewers are really big fans of Hagan, because I can't see any other reason for such high ratings. It's your average book about painting that doesn't really teach you anything about painting. Notice that it's a 96 page book with 400 pictures... so most are very small. Comments for them are similar to "I was after this effect," "I did this ...," "I did that..," "I decided this," "This confirms blah..." No substance. I never heard of Hagan before buying this book, but it does have a few nice paintings in it. Since I do like the works shown, I give it a 3 instead of a 2. If there were fewer but larger pictures I'd give it a 4.
The art and science of landscape.......2005-02-06
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is having a little trouble getting started painting. Classes are fine, if you can find a teacher who doesn't just plop a model or still life in front of you and tells you to have at it. Books and videos are helpful (especially the ones by Helen Van Wyk), but most assume some prior knowledge of painting or drawing.
This book breaks down the complex business of oil painting by suggesting a palette which is both manageable and gorgeous. Hagan's palette will save you a lot of money and wasted time. It is not the usual palette suggested by most books; it will give you a huge jump start and prevent a lot of disasters. He also greatly simplifies the matter of brushes. But best of all, he actually explains the SCIENCE of landscape. There is a perfectly logical scientific approach to painting any landscape which will work every time you apply it, in every instance. I am astonished that after years of studying art, I have never seen this explained quite this way before. It works, too. I learned more in my first half hour with this book than I have learned in ages.
Lastly, don't let the "Romantic" word in the title fool you into thinking the author paints like Thomas Kinkade. Even if you don't wish to emulate the author--I certainly don't--his explanations of atmospheric phenomena and good, solid instruction of procedures will facilitate the expression of your own authentic work.
His paintighs are amazing.......2005-02-03
Hagan is without question one of the top painters that come from Australia. The book title "Romantic Oil Painting Made Easy" may be however a bit decieving. You have to understand that it is made easy for Mr. Hagan because of many years of drawing, painting and a great talent. He shows in steps how he painted some of his art, what source photos he used, what he was thinking about each step and what needs to be done in order to have picture that holds together. Don't think of this as a "step by step how to paint...". It is a view into artist mind and very worth the trip.
Other great artists that deal with modern impressionism and contemporary realism are australian watercolorist Joseph Zbukvic or american Pino.
Exciting and Worth Much More..........2004-03-16
As a painting instructr, it is a joy for me to find work that thrills the class and instructs so well. Roberts mastery of simple, minimum color, a 'mother color' and exciting brushwork and well as his own enthusiasm and romantic leaning, makes using his well written book, a delight.
We actually hummed while painting! Well written. Filled with colored "how to" photos. Overflowing with step by step photos and instructions. Beautiful, large photos of completed paintings. The best instruction book I own...I have every book he has written. A must if you want instruction, how-to photos , an exciting approach to impressionism, all the help you need and a full understanding of Mr. Hagans work. As an added plus, his brushes are easy to locate and so inexpensive you won't believe it! A high praise, I know. I recommend it happily.

Customer Reviews:
The definitive Franz Liszt -- all 3 of the volumes! .......2007-05-09
This will probably be one of my shorter reviews [A sudden shout: "Yeah, right Doc!"] because I can quickly cut to the chase, to wit, Dr. Alan Walker has produced in this painstakingly researched 3 volume biography [spread out over 25 years during the research] with this 1811-1847 book being the first in that series, the 'definitive' Franz Liszt! This trilogy is a must read for those interested in Liszt and, IMO, is not only the definitive Liszt from "the" acknowledged authority and foremost Franz Liszt scholar but a decided asset to the Liszt biographical literature per se.
Two more comments: Watch the Amazon vendor prices for the 'hardcover' editions! Originally, these were rather pricey books in hardcover [although well worth it! Knopf quality!] but I was able to get 'used' albeit literally mint hardcover editions of the 3 volumes from 3 separate Amazon vendors. What's that? Sure! The original harcover editions were, in order of publication, $25.00, $39.95 and $45.00. I'll generally check out the hardcover offerings over the paperback editions in most of my books and sometimes there are some really exceptional buys out there although if it's a choice between 'good' and 'very good' pay the few dollars extra for the 'very good' or 'like new' grade notations.
Finally, check out among other of Dr. Walker's tomes on Franz Liszt, "The Death of Franz Liszt: Based on the Unpublished Diary of his Pupil Lina Schmalhausen" which is quite an eye-opener with regard to the "treatment" [or lack of same therein] of Liszt prior to his demise. As I said when I reveiewed that book, I trust the source of the diary find as well as the findings and its editing, annotations and examination via Dr. Walker as to the veracity of the Schmalhausen remarks. I quoted the remarks of the conductor, Felix Weingartner, who was 'there' at the time and his own observations [et al] lend credence to the Schmalhausen diary.
So too, and if finances permit and you want Franz Liszt a la mode, get the 3 volumes in one swoop plus the Lina Schmalhausen diary book which was edited and annotated by Dr. Walker in re the death of Liszt and finally, putting it all together, the 2005 published Dr. Alan Walker 'capstone', if you will, "Reflections on Liszt." See my reviews on those two tomes as well.
Doc Tony
What's that? Why not! Doc Walker with a straight white haired wig resurrecting Steve Allen's "Meeting of Minds" and doing the one and only "F. Liszt" as a sort of latter day counter-balance to Victor Borge's 'interpretation' so to speak in that classic Mike Wallace skit! Who better than Doc Walker to play Liszt and concurrently know what he's talking about! Ahhhh! That's the rather cogent difference!
A sudden voice: "What about Doc Walker's Chopin and Schumann tomes?" Fine! They could be played next! ;-) [as I place much trust in Dr. Walker's sense of humor! But the obvious compliment of his research is clearly evident!]
Superb accomplishment - enlightening.......2007-04-11
As a music student in the 70's the subtext when discussing Franz Liszt was that he was a showman who leaned on his empty virtuosity. Chopin, Mendelssohn, and Schumann on the other hand, were the true romantic artists.
It's taken me over 35 years of studying piano and music to get to the point where I would read this wonderful biography of Liszt, and my eyes have been opened even wider about the wonderful artistic character of Liszt and his completely indespensible role in 19th century music.
This book (I have all three) is a wonderful read, at some times it is "laugh out loud" funny, and is filled with musical examples that perfectly illustrate the points that Mr. Walker makes.
If you are a musician interested in the piano, or the Romantic period, you owe it to yourself to let the scales fall from your eyes, and read this enlightening exposition.
Great Biography Of The World's First Rock Star.......2006-08-15
Alan Walker deserves 5 enthusiastic stars for making his life's purpose the writing of Franz Liszt's definitive biography, and succeeding nearly as well as humanly possible considering the availability of the always-emerging Liszt materials throughout the years. For me, I would have liked to have seen an even more musically-oriented life of Liszt. More than a few times, Walker mentions that eyewitness accounts exist of important concerts, only to refer us in a footnote to some person's diary (probably only available in some Transylvanian dialect if you could ever find it) rather than telling us about it himself. Meanwhile we're treated to almost painfully detailed renderings of Franz's love life with Marie D'Agoult and the many domestic dramas which haunted him as his pursued his life on the concert trail... but these are minor quibbles. The book is great, no doubt about it. Poor Liszt, he was the busiest piano virtuoso in history at that time, traveling in various carriages and carts across thousands of miles of potholed roads where he was jolted mercilessly and endured illness, exhaustion, rain, mud, snow and ice while he raced to his next gig. He was literally thrown to the ground violently at least twice, when wheels dipped into ditches or the drivers fell asleep and the whole carriage overturned. (It's sad and sobering to realize that this is exactly how the original bassist for the rock group Metallica, Cliff Burton, was killed more than 150 years later on a lonely road in Sweden. He was sleeping on the band's tour bus when it overturned. In a similar accident, singer Gloria Estefan was lucky to escape with her life.) Somehow, despite these gritty and dangerous travel conditions, Liszt performed a grueling succession of mostly triumphant concerts everywhere from Italy to Scotland to Russia before he decided he had been bounced around quite enough thank you, and settled down to compose and teach in Weimar, where Volume two of this epic biography begins. Towards the end of Volume 1, I began to feel as if author Walker's spark was fading slightly. And lo and behold, as I began reading Volume 2, I was very pleasantly surprised to see that the intervening years in which the author was researching the next installment had allowed him to completely recharge his batteries, and present part 2 to the public with a fully-renewed sense of brilliance, wit, and passion for his subject matter. Highly recommended reading for biography buffs interested in great musicians and composers!
10 stars for this phenomenal achievement.......2006-07-29
This is simply the standard of Liszt biography. The fact that Alan Walker researched enough to fill three volumes is an achievement enough, but you know what else makes this biography so good? It's fun to read. Without a doubt, anyone interested in Liszt will find anecdotes, insights, illuminated facts, and even musical analysis of the most colorful and exciting character in classical music: Franz Liszt.
I've read this book twice, actually, and the second time was even more enjoyable. This owes to many things: Alan Walker's superb writing style, eloquent organization (gives the pedantics many footnotes to absorb at the bottom of the page) and a fine cohesion of thoughts and ideas put into each chapter. Sometimes I can't help but enjoy the biography as I would a novel. Yet Walker does not write it like a novel and clearly sets out to chronicle Liszt's life from his youth all the way to his retiring from the concert stage. In between these pivotal times, Walker manages to debunk myths, explore Liszt's underrated music from his virtuoso days, and examine other characters who interacted with the Hungarian composer. Walker is always focused on Liszt but never detracts by discussing Clara and Robert Schumann's reactions, or Sigismond Thalberg, Chopin and even Alkan. Walker depicts their perspective of Liszt and goes on to explain why there were so many misunderstandings.
Stories of Liszt's true meeting with Beethoven, his exciting romance with Marie D'Agoult, the duel with Thalberg, his generous nature to play for charity, and so many enticing stories of his concert days all help to shed light on what a remarkable man Liszt was, and at such a young age, too. The whole book is an exquisite panorama of Liszt's character, detailed through his letters, his travels, his music, and his legacy as researched by the author. What Walker has done is set the standard for the way Liszt should be viewed in the history books. For so long, musicologists were almost feeding us false information. From the really low ones we were even getting propaganda that he was a womanizer, a cheat, some kind of vulgar pianist, and even a fraud. Walker candidly mauls those old and incorrect views into the dust; he explores and accurately dispels the myths and ignorance that so many people harbored and still harbor for him, and for that I feel thankful.
Never have I read a biography twice like this and found the second reading even more engrossing. There is never a dull moment, never a chapter that slows down. To be fair, the only chapter that was uninteresting was the prologue and biographical information of Liszt's family. Despite that, once you're absorbed into Liszt's young world with Czerny, his move to Paris, and his tours all over Europe, it's like being on a rollercoaster ride during the whole book.
Bottom line: Liszt lovers must read this book; it's the best wealth of knowledge to get on the young Franz Liszt and it is written in a way that doesn't just educate, but also entertains. Highly recommended.
Perfection is here!!.......2003-06-03
I don't need a thousand words to express my admiration for the deepness of this Liszt's biography by Alan Walker. The research evolved unto these should have been formidable. The unique comparison for such a work of 30 years of research is the Work of Liszt itself. We cannot immagine how Alan Walker got all these informations, he seemed to really know what Liszt made all days in his life.
In a word: Incredible !!! Get it!

Book Description
During the period of European revolutions the British Romantic theatre found itself reexaming the whole cast of social and sexual relations. The five plays grouped here represent some of the most radical and unusual examples of Romantic drama: Horace Walpole invented gothic melodrama with his incest tragedy, The Mysterious Mother (1768), and Robert Southey imagined the theatre as a site of revolutionary protest in Wat Tyler (1794). Joanna Baillie's psychological case study in aristocratic hatred, De Monfort (1768) was thought too alarming to have been written by a woman, while Elizabeth Inchbald's hugely successful Lovers' Vows (1798) was sufficiently subversive for Jane Austen to analyse some of its illicit potential in Mansfield Park (1814). Byron's strenuous tragedy The Two Foscari (1821) explores an inescapable conflict between parental love and political authority. The stage imagined by these writers is an arena of tense and embattled desires, with sexual and political claims mapped onto the same conflicts of power. This exciting edition is the only one of its kind and provides the first authorized texts of the plays complete with fully-researched reference to major authorial revision.

rudimentary .......2007-07-16
I'm going to begin by picking a nit, here. This book is not authored by Ms Vinyard in the conventional sense. Probably 50% of the copy is authored by other women.
On to more important issues:
1) Most of the material in the book is quite elementary. If you don't know what point of view is or what the options are, this book explains that. But if you want advice beyond "don't change point of view too often," you will not get much help.
2) Unlike other writing manuals, this book is not structured in a way to help a beginner actually write a romance. It reflects this in it's contents, which include "Elements of Romance Storytelling," but nothing on putting the elements together.
I prefer "On Writing Romance" by Leigh Michaels and "Writing Romance" by Vanessa Grant, both of which rewarded my reading time with a great deal of useful information.
On the other hand, if you want to be part of the romance writers' community, this might be a good book for you, as it often mentions Romance Writers of America and the author's own web site. The section on "Support Networks" is as long as the one section on writing, "Elements of Romance Storytelling," and there is a whole section titled, "Inspiration, Comisseration and Information." That's all padding, from my point of view.
My own experience? I've won a state wide fiction award, edited a very small magazine and a book published by a major publisher, and written for a web site with ga-zillions of hits a week (yes, that's a technical term), and a glossy magazine. I teach college. I need to organize my material well and include plenty of useful content if I want my work to benefit my students.
I'm Gonna Be A Star........2007-01-10
This book is generally known as the mack-daddy of the "how to write a romance" books. My sister and I intend to become embarrassingly rich with the information we glean from it. Should you never see my name again, rest assured, the fault lies with me, and not the book.
A Keeper!.......2006-11-27
I'm about halfway through this book and have already learned so much that I'd pay FULL price for the book (I'm a used book nut, so that is saying a lot).
The info about proper manuscript set-up is worth buying this one.
I am not a "new" writer but haven't written romance until now. Looks like I chose a quality reference for the job!
I'm afraid many sub-par books are published every year about how-to-write. THIS one is not one of those!
A Must Have for all new Romance Writers!.......2006-07-03

This book contains tips, ideas, advice, examples and more on every topic. I have read more than 25 books on this subject but THIS BOOK is undoubtedly one of the BEST!
The BEST book on Romance Writing.......2005-02-26
Many of the books on this subject are not current and are only mildly entertaining... Ms. Vinyard on the other hand fills the pages with exciting descriptions of the current Romance market and piles on the practical advice for the new and experienced writer. This book is a must for ever Romance writer!!
