5 out of 5 stars awesome.......2004-01-24

I have been reading this book for the last 30 minutes and it's one wow after another. I just turned to my dog and said "This book is amazing!" hehe.

Seriously. The dive in and "look what you can do with ps" style of this book is very impressive. I bought it as an alternative to the more advanced wow book. This is the one I was looking for. 4 thumbs up!

5 out of 5 stars Even for the well-seasoned.......2002-03-22

I **LOVE** this book! I've been using Photoshop since version 4 and i'm self-taught. I am not an expert yet but then i don't consider myself a novice either.

This book is for everyone. What i most like about this book is the easy style and sample pages, The quick shortcuts to just about doing everything, and the explanation of why one tool works better than another.

I just attended a 2-day Photoshop class and the instructor highly recommended this book. at first, i thought that it was for the very beginner, but it's some much more. It's like a dictionary... you keep it for reference.

as i glanced at the instructor's book, i noticed that it was truly worn. she said that she's had to buy a second copy because she's used it so much. you can't possibly memorize everything about photoshop.. so why not have the best resource in town?? This BOOK!

5 out of 5 stars Photoshop reference extraordinaire.......2002-01-31

I love this book! I wish all software books were written this well. If you took 20 Photoshop books at random and put them through some magic process that took all the good stuff out and condensed them into 1 easy to read, well-organized, no fluff, no 1500 pages and 4 pounds of paper book, this would be what comes out.

When I picked this book off them shelf and started reading it, it was immediately obvious that the layout and organization were very good. The more I've used the book, the more I appreciate what it has to offer. Simply, a superior reference to Photoshop 6! It's really a "textbook" example of how to present information in a logical and easy to use fashion.

I didn't find having the images in black and white a problem at all. In the context of this book, color images would not add much information at all, although I'm sure they would add a lot to the price.

A superb reference book, well-written and organized. The Adobe user guide and Classroom in a book are now relegated to the back of the bookshelf.

Please please please...software book writers, use this book as a model of how to create your future books. This book shows well that less is often more. People are not buying software books by the pound, they are really more interested in quality information, not quantity!!

I'd like to give this book 10 stars, but 5 will have to suffice.

5 out of 5 stars Best Photoshop book, period.......2001-09-20

Photoshop is a deep and complex program and this book makes it (almost) simple. The book has several strengths -- first is McClelland's astonishing knowldge, next is his ability to explain complex things in terms even a beginner can understand, third is the brilliant way the information is organized. Face it, no matter how much knowlege a book contains, if you can't find the knowledge it's useless to you. The publisher and book designer make McClelland's information always easy to find, even if you are looking for some obscure feature like using the Color Range command to make a mask. No matter what your skill level, this book will open the Photoshop world further to you. I'm a graphics professional and I have a dozen Photoshop books on my shelf -- and this is the one I always pull out.

5 out of 5 stars Look & Learn Photoshop 6 is Great........2001-01-25

you can start learning photoshop fast and easy. This book is suitable for beginners. It's full of illustrations and pictures, and to the point. In addition, you don't have to read a lot. it's a quick start. it's so informative and you can use it as manual too. even filters are covered, what are they and how you can use them step by step. good work Deke.

5 out of 5 stars Great pocket introduction for beginners!.......2005-05-13

I've read the author's "Digital Photography All In One Desk Reference for Dummies" and "Mastering Digital SLR Photography" and feel fortunate that he is one of the few photographers writing these books among the glut of computer book writers taking a stab at it. So, I purchased this book as an introductory guide for my wife, expecting to find the same clear, accurate coverage of digital photography. I was not disappointed.

All the basics are here, general enough to cover any brand of digital camera, but specific enough to be of use. Because it really is a "quick reference" it will not be the only digital photo book you need. However, it has good information for the beginner and can be used as a reference to answer quick questions. More advanced photographers should avoid this book, because it really is just an intro.

1 out of 5 stars You're a dummy if you buy this book !.......2005-04-08

Poorly written, little useful information on Digital Photography.
The photos inside the book are very poorly printed Black and White photos. My old copy machine would do a better job.

Pathetic effort at Digital Photography, the author should stay with computer books.

Be warned, don't waste your money !

Book Description

Adobe Photoshop is the world's leading image manipulation software. Used by both professional and amateur graphic designers, it is the de facto standard for print and Web publishing.

The Art of Photoshop centers on a suite of 20 digital images created by Daniel Giordan and his staff at DigiRAMA design studios. Visually complex, and rich in layered tonality, these images are designed to inspire readers to push their understanding of Photoshop and its capabilities, while offering a glimpse over the designer's shoulder into how the images were created.

The reader will not only learn the techniques used by the author, but also how to apply them to their own images. They will learn how to use curves to correct color, silhouette images, use gradient maps, build custom brushes, use blending modes, and draw and paint into an image.

2 out of 5 stars Sorry, but no........2007-04-06

I really was excited to get this book and verry pissed to finally read it. The philosophy behind the books' creation is solid, from a creative pov. That rarely happens with anything. But this book had everything I already knew about layers, masks, selections. I expected a deeper digging in of photoshop and compositing materials to form a more real-world sense of how pros put together real eye-catching images. Instead it covered the first quarter of my photoshop class and the images are not that interesting. Only the cover image and one other inside was good. Otherwise this doesn't display anything new to me. What a waste. I guess mmy instructor was some kind of genius and taught us intermediate stuff right off the bat. Next time, show some realism in your work, not fluff. Sorry Dan, ya coulda' done better, I know you could have shown more powerful images and how to achieve them.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent book.......2007-01-11

This is excellent book, especially for those interested in the artistic photographic image. It is helpful, and wholly inclusive of wonderful techniques to spur the imagination for the serious professional or avocational photographer. It has moved my images from ordinary to extraordinary. I highly recommend this book.

5 out of 5 stars Very nice images. Very nice presentation. Very good book........2005-08-09

Too many Photoshop books feature images that start out ugly and are uglier by the time the author is finished with them. This book is inspiring in the beauty of the images and broad utility of the techniques offered. Anyone who wants to approach Photoshop from an artistic angle will like this book.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent!.......2003-12-02

This is a beautiful book and I highly recommend it for any Photoshop user beginner, advanced or anywhere in between. I consider myself pretty advanced in Photoshop and I learned a lot from this book. Just overall a great book and you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars The Most Beautiful Book Ever.......2003-10-28

I was looking for a book to complement a university level digital media class I was taking, and this was it!!! Not only did the beautiful imagery and artful presentation inspire me, but the description and image gallery showed me EXACTLY how to construct these works of art. This is by far my favorite book, and I treasure it as a piece of art!

1 out of 5 stars OK, if You're Interested in Photoshop.......2007-05-08

I recently finished my certification in Fire Investigation and have since taken a course in Digital Crime Scene Photography as well as reading a couple books on digital photgraphy. I was disapointed in this book, as the majority of it dealt with managing your files with software, not actual technique. I was hoping for something a little more along the lines of a "how to" book, with regards to shooting technique and lighting. I have since returned the book and am exploring other options.

4 out of 5 stars Complete book.......2003-11-28

This is a compact book (just 256 pages), for people who may need to get a general but complete idea of the matter.
And, as the matter is not that common, it's important to find in a single book so many arguments put together.
The step by step concept of the book allows beginners to start "thinking" as a forensic photographer.
The accompanying CD, with images and exercises, provides a basic and easy to understand introduction to the use of photographic elements used in legal / forensic investigations.
As a professional, I find this book too short and lacking in some details. Also, I think it's time for an updated / revised edition.

Aimed primarily at the serious hobbyist or business professional, the Digital Photography Bible functions very well as an introduction to taking, retouching, storing, and publishing digital photographs, as well as choosing equipment and software. Instead of a step-by-step how-to on a particular application--like most of the books in the Bible series--this one is more of a discussion of the many different aspects of digital photography. Some topics--for example, emergent technologies--get only a cursory glance. However, for the most part, the book does a good job of covering everything you need to know to get started.

Launching into digital photography means making a succession of comparisons, and this book has done most of the legwork for you. It examines the different brands of cameras and accessories, as well as the hardware and software you'll need to process the images, from printers to papers. Appendices chart out the comparisons and list 46 pages' worth of digital resources--from Agfa to Zing Network, an online digital-image community offering unlimited free storage.

Author Ken Milburn shares his experience as a photographer, with tips and tricks on how to take a good image, whether it's the basics of high-quality photography or technical insights into working a digital camera--such as compensating for shutter lag or the usually excessive depth of field. He touches on several image-editing applications, but devotes the most time to the basics of using Photoshop.

If you have extensive experience taking and processing conventional photos, but have yet to dive into digital, you'll be able to appreciate how the book weighs all the variables involved. If you've committed yourself already to a particular camera and software, you still will benefit from the help on how to get the most from them. The author's gallery of color photos shows examples of different problem-solving techniques covered in the text, and the companion CD-ROM contains demos of many of the applications discussed, including Photoshop 5.5. --Angelynn Grant

Book Description

* Targets a unique audience of professionals and serious amateurs.
* 16-page color insert demonstrates techniques used to solve problems best understood by seeing the before and after versions of an image.
* CD-ROM contains hundreds of sample photographs, a trial version of Photoshop 7.0 and the 3-D editing program Conama.

3 out of 5 stars Couldn't ignore technical problems.......2003-01-24

After reading the first 20-30 pages of this book, I found myself
so distracted by all of the typos and technical errors that I
couldn't continue with it. It seems to me that an expert on
digital photography should be able to keep mega_pixels_ and
mega_bytes_ straight. I got tired of mentions of 5MB cameras and
such. There are numerous other examples, but I already returned
the book and can't cite them all from memory.

If you can overlook this, then I have a feeling the other reviews

that say this is good for beginners are on the mark.

5 out of 5 stars Wow!!.......2002-10-08

...I've been an amateur photographer for 15 years, and my husband bought me a Canon Powershot A40 and this book for my birthday. I'm no stranger to photography, but I'm amazed at the effects I've already been able to achieve with Adobe Elements and the use of this book. I particularly appreciated the chapter on special effects and the one on cataloging and archiving images.

4 out of 5 stars Wish I'd Read These Reviews..........2002-03-12

I wish I'd read the reviews before I bought the book. I'd echo the sentiment that I was too advanced for the book. The CD wasn't anything I could use either. It was good in spots, but what I learned was really on a few pages. If you just bought or thinking of buying, your first digital camera and goodies, then buy this book.

If you've been shooting for a while and using Photoshop, you'll learn a little, but wish you'd bought something else--like a lens or something, or a different book.

5 out of 5 stars All you need to grasp a concept or learn more..........2001-12-05

Ok I work with digital cameras, printers and scanners for about 3 years now (professional as well as private life). The concept of digital photography is not new to me and there are few things that I'm unfamiliar with but... There are some settings, details or modes that I would like to try or set but just don't have time. This book will solve those problems. It will take you from basic settings and steps in technique and bump you up. So if all you want to do is print/scan basic proofs or shoot nighttime pictures you will be instructed what to do. But if you want to be more advanced, print better photos, shoot more interesting stuff all you have to do is read on... This book really covers everything; that's probably why it is $40. There are some stuff that you won't need. And if you know basics of photography, parts of the book will bore you but at the end you will have a knowledge that will allow you to improve your digital darkroom techniques. I'm really not looking for camera recommendations since I know what I want. Buyer has to be aware that examples of equipment used for demonstration may be little outdated right now. Same thing goes for camera/scanner recommendations at the end of the book. Digital bible should be used as photo guide not as an equipment recommendation source. Also one thing about the book is that author does not try to find solutions (sometimes). Some problems are solved with minimal intellectual involvement. Example: if there is a problem, tweaking will help (time consuming) but it is recommended that you have to go out and buy a $200 printer profile (much faster/less headache)... I would love to see more of the day to day solutions from peoples personal experiences rather than strictly theoretical solutions (which work fine but cost $). I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

4 out of 5 stars Great Book for Beginners; Terrible Book for the Advanced.......2000-12-13

The Digital Photography Bible is intended for a beginner to low-intermediate digital photographer. The book is very complete - which for some may be the reason you buy it. For me, it was the reason I could not give it five stars.

When I say the book is complete, I mean it covers every topic imaginable. From selecting a digital camera (or scanner or printer) to the right imaging software to how to do basic editing on those programs. This may be what potential buyers of this book are looking for: an all in one manual that gives you a great start and that can later be used for reference. Unfortunately, I mistook the title for being a thorough reference that went beyond the basics. This book may get you to the intermediate level of digital photography but it does not take you one step beyond that. My expectations were for a more detailed look at some advanced techniques in later chapters. In my estimation the book dedicates 80% to the beginning digital photographer and 20% to the intermediate.

Some of the topics covered are:

1) Buying guide for digital camera, scanner, printer, and imaging/editing software. 2) Elementary photo techniques. 3) Pros and cons of using an IBM or MAC platform machine. 4) Basic imaging and editing techniques (primarily in Adobe PhotoShop). 5) BONUS: CD-ROM containing "lite" versions of popular imaging software.

Overall, I rated this book four stars because it is full of information and worth the purchase if you fit in the beginner or low-intermediate category of digital photographers. If you've been using a camera (film or digital) and PhotoShop for at least six months with good results, you don't need this book.

BTW, I'm still waiting/looking for a intermediate to advanced level book if anyone has any recommendations, please e-mail me.

If you're the kind of person who'd rather read the telephone directory than a software manual, Adobe Photoshop 6.0 Classroom in a Book could be just what you need to get a grip on the latest version of the world's best image-editing software.

Seventeen project-based lessons take you through every aspect of Photoshop. The book starts with the basics--the revamped interface, selection tools, and working with layers--and then moves on to more involved projects like retouching, using the new vector shape and clipping path features, advanced layer management, and special effects. Each lesson begins with a clear introduction and finishes with a brief review section, which is a good way of assessing how much you've learned and whether you need to go over anything again.

Anyone who is, or wants to be, a Photoshop pro must eventually tackle color management, and two lessons are devoted to this difficult subject. "Setting Up Your Monitor for Color Management" examines the principles of color management and shows you how to calibrate and create an ICC color profile for your monitor using the Adobe Gamma control panel. "Producing and Printing Consistent Color" deals with proofing images on a CMYK PostScript printer and creating color separations for commercial printing. There's also a chapter devoted to spot-color printing. The remainder of the book deals with producing Web graphics using ImageReady 3.0.

While it lacks the depth of some of the other Photoshop tomes, this is probably one of the most effective courses there is for beginners and intermediate users. --Ken McMahon, Amazon.co.uk

1 out of 5 stars Where the lesson is leading isn't clear from the beginning.......2005-08-11

If there are those out there who have read: "Adobe Photoshop 6.0 Classroom in a Book" ISBN 0-201-71016-1
and disliked it as much as I did, please submit reviews of better books you've found.

I got the impression that, that book tried it's best to make sure you had very little idea of what the lesson was leading up to until the very last sentence. The problem with this method is that it makes understanding and following the lesson much more difficult because you have little idea of what it's leading up to.

Using it as a reference is pretty much impossible. You can't just pick up the book and go to a point of interest and learn that topic. It seems like you have to start at the beginning of the book just to get the sence of something in the middle or end of the book. Frankly, what a piece of crap. Thanks for any recommendations.

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent Teacher.......2004-10-21

When I first picked up Adobe Photoshop 6.0, I almost gave up on it because I had no idea how it worked. Instead I searched around for a book to teach me how to use it. Well, Photoshop 6.0 Classroom in a Book was the right one to chose! Simple, step by step lessons teach you about each feature of 6.0. If you're brand new to Photoshop, this book will make you an expert!

3 out of 5 stars Good for "How?" not "Why?" or "What?".......2003-03-25

If you want the practice and need a step-by-step lesson, this is a good book. I did want the step-by-step practice, and I'm still glad I bought the book. However, it only tells you what to do. It's not very good at explaining why you're doing it or what exactly the overall effect will be. Also, any tool, filter, etc. that you don't learn about in the lessons, you don't really learn about at all. I think it's a great book for practice, but it's probably best used in conjunction with another book that doesn't have lessons but gives a better explanation of the tools, what they do, and when and why to use them. An example is probably Photoshop 6 For Dummies. I haven't bought it yet, but I've looked through it, and I think it will be helpful if used along with Classroom in a Book.

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent starting point.......2003-02-19

First, let me say that it is very easy to pick apart any book that attempts to introduce a beginner to such a complex application program as Photoshop6. I am not an expert on Photoshop but I have invested a lot of time and money learning how to use it effectively in web development. This is an very cost effective approach to learning some of the useful features that Photoshop offers to the artist both in the Print media and the electronic web pallet.
Just remember this is starting point Photoshop is an life long pursuit if you are trying produce original quality work. If you can find a good copy used. It will be a reference book that you will continue to use years after you complete the exercises in it.

4 out of 5 stars Good Book.......2002-07-14

I found this book to be a good solid hands-on "text-book". The hands-on lessons made sense. The lessons explained what you were doing as you were doing it. This enabled you to really learn the information so that you would be able to fully utilize all the features of photoshop. Although I don't feel the lessons about the web uses of photoshop were as thorough, I had a good enough grasp of photoshop it took very little effort on my part to figure it out. This is the best book you can find explaining how to use photoshop you can find.

The authors of Photoshop 6 for Windows and Macintosh: Visual QuickStart Guide have many years' experience in writing--and it shows. This latest volume is one of the longest QuickStart Guides (as befits such a complex application), with each page chock-full of screen shots of images, palettes, toolbars, and option panels. Photoshop's work environment has changed significantly since version 5.5; for example, a new options bar has been added. Right off, this guide maps out the landscape with callouts and captions that define each and every item you might see when Photoshop is running. A "6.0!" icon marks every new item.

The strength of all QuickStart Guides is their abundance of black-and-white screen shots laid out in one column on the page, coupled with the step-by-step instructions and concise explanations that appear on the adjacent column. These are not tutorials that simulate a classroom experience by taking one project through many stages (although sample images are shown). Rather, this book is more like a fix-it manual--you have a problem in your own work, you look up the appropriate keywords in the index, and then you apply the steps to work out a solution.

As would be expected, the book takes you through all the many parts of Photoshop, from pixel basics like resolution to selections, layers, history, masks, paths, type, filters, actions, and preparing images for print or Web. Also covered is using ImageReady to optimize images for the Web and make slices, rollovers, and animations. Features that are new to ImageReady 3.0 are also highlighted with a "6.0!" icon, making it easy to find just those topics that will be of interest to readers already comfortable in version 5.5. There's also a lengthy list of keyboard shortcuts for both platforms, followed by an impressively detailed index. --Angelynn Grant

5 out of 5 stars "You'll be up & running in no-time" (seriously).......2003-06-08

Very good resource for learning the ins-&-outs of Photoshop. Nothing in the book was a "serious waste of time", which I find in a lot of books. You'll pick-up a great deal, but still there's even more to learn. Displacement maps & all those other tidbits are left out, but thats why Colin Smith, Kelby, Monroe, & other gurus, come out with the books they do.

As for those other reviewers who says its not for beginners, thats nonsense. If you not sitting in front of Photoshop practicing then perhaps the newly aqquainted will get lost.

One last note, Photoshop 7 is out now, I've toyed with it and used it, and this book for 6 is still just as good. In 7, theres a filebrowser, a cool new brush engine, and some [crummy]new tools in the toolbox that you'll never use.

:)

2 out of 5 stars NOT !! for beginners.......2003-02-22

I just got this book and have been trying to read for the last few days. It's dry as toast, and goes into very little detail on how things are done. It will start a new subject and not even gin an explanation as to what it is. Magic wand;, just tell you how to use it, not what it's used for, no examples of what an image looks like before you use it, with another one after so one can see the difference. This is the first review I wrote, but I just had to get the word out. If you're a beginner you need something else, so my quest goes on.

3 out of 5 stars Book Level: Intermediate!.......2002-09-07

It is the first Photoshop book that I bought. It confused me a lot. There is no learning guide in this book. After I read a true beginner level book, I found it quite useful as a "How-To" book.

2 out of 5 stars Not For Beginners; Black&White, Crowded Format a Problem Too.......2002-07-02

So far this is the Photoshop book I'd tell you to buy last after my buying 5 different ones. It is the one in use in my college level course and I think they should use just about anything else. Its biggest problem is that it is just too complicated for a beginner to use. It throws an enormous amount of material before you.(That is the effect it has upon you as a student--data being dumped on you en masse) Hours later into reading it, you are no better off than when you started. It is also in black and white and every single page is jam packed with material. This off-putting visual style/format is no aid to learning either. Now that I'm steadily improving in Photoshop, I hope I am able to occasionally open this book and learn something I haven't gleaned elsewhere so as to get my [money] out of it. I have yet to be able to do this though. I can't really recommend buying this book and I think colleges should stop requiring it as the text.

4 out of 5 stars A good book for a complete novice.......2002-11-26

I bought this book because I have MGI PhotoSuite 4 and I wanted something to help me make the program help me verses me fighting with the program. Originally, I felt this book was too simple and did not offer true help. However, over the last several weeks I have changed my mind. I am creating my first project and have found this book to be a useful resource. The author walked me through the exact steps I needed to take to complete the various tasks of my project. This book saved me time and reduced my frustration by giving me tips and clear explanations of to create my desired results. I have more to learn about PhotoSuite and I plan on keep this book next to my mouse.

Additionally, this book would be helpful to anyone in the market to purchase his or her first digital camera. The author takes time to explain many different things about photography and digital cameras. As a complete novice, I enjoyed this learning experience

1 out of 5 stars Reading this book may cause acne..........2002-03-02

This book is long on saccharine and short on tutorial reference. I was hoping that this book would be a definitive reference text on how to use PhotoSuite 4, but I found that the majority of the text is devoted to pap that I'm not interested in (e.g., entire chapters on, believe it or not, "Cheap gifts and chic digital accessories" or "PhotoSuite 4 for fun and profit"). The few chapters that actually deal with using the product itself are too lightweight to be much assistance. In all fairness, this book would be good for young people under age 12, ultimate computer-phobes... If you're looking for a serious product reference, skip this text.

2 out of 5 stars PhotoSuite 4 for Dummies.......2001-06-13

Inasmuch as this complete program as changed as PhotoSuite upgraded (?) their program to 8.0. Therefore this book is different than the look in new program. The complete process has changed making this book a poor guide and help!!!!!!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Good book for PhotoSUITE pros, great for beginners.......2000-12-11

I had Photosuite 2 from the computer I got a couple of years ago, and enjoyed it, so I decided to upgrade and get PhotoSUITE 4. Ironically, I work at a bookstore and received this book the day before, and since its the only book about PhotoSUITE around, I bought it. The book is great, since I worked out a couple of the things in the program (i.e effects and framing) but not the others. The books good, but a Que Special Edition or Bible would be even better but it's good enough for me!

    Book Description

Photogrammetry is the use of photography for surveying primarily and is used for the production of maps from aerial photographs. Along with remote sensing, it represents the primary means of generating data for Geographic Information Systems (GIS). As technology develops, it is becoming easier to gain access to it. The cost of digital photogrammetric workstations are falling quickly and these new tools are therefore becoming accessible to more and more users. Digital Photogrammetry is particularly useful as a text for graduate students in geomantic and is also suitable for people with a good basic scientific knowledge who need to understand photogrammetry, and who wish to use the book as a reference.

Dan Gookin explains the latest consumer trend in PCs in Digital Scanning and Photography: specifically, how to choose, buy, configure, and use scanners and digital cameras. The book addresses both Microsoft Windows and the Mac OS, and general information (what resolution is) intermingles with specific instructions (how to resize an image in Adobe PhotoDeluxe). The illustrator of this book deserves great praise. The technical drawings, which showcase such details as where you plug cables into a scanner, are razor sharp and almost photo-realistic. Maybe they're ink-enhanced photographs--it's hard to tell; but, in any case, they're far better than the grainy photos that usually populate books that have a hardware angle.

Gookin, a pioneer of the trend in lighthearted writing (as in DOS for Dummies), communicates lots of facts and well-reasoned opinions without being dull; often, he's downright funny. But sometimes the flip shtick goes a bit too far, as when he remarks that all scanners should come with some kind of software that makes them go: "If you haven't found the scanner software," Gookin writes, "search the scanner box again." Okay; but less obvious advice would be to go to the scanner manufacturer's Web site to see if they have the software available for download there. --David Wall

5 out of 5 stars Great helpful guide.......2002-06-18

I don't own a digital camera (35mm buff) but just couldn't get the hang of achieving even decent scans of my 35mm shots. This book follows Adobe Photodeluxe to the "T" but is very useful for anyone with a scanner. Changed everything and frequently use the book as a reference tool. Best bet for the price!

    5 out of 5 stars Now I know!.......2001-05-05

I can take a picture using my digital camera and I can even use the software, but the pictures looked horrible. So I broke down and bought this book. Wow! Now I know what I was doing wrong - lots! It's the technical information about resolution and working with the software that makes all the difference in your pictures. This is a must buy. If you've spent the money to buy the camera, spend a little extra, buy this book, and do it right.

5 out of 5 stars Surprise! You don't know as much as you think you do.......2001-01-09

I recieved this book as a gift and I snickered, thinking I already knew a lot about digital photography. Boy, was I wrong! This book is full of great information about things that really matter (resolution for example). This is a must buy for anyone scanning or using a digital camera. Really, there's a lot to learn!

    5 out of 5 stars A Good Read.......2000-09-21

Want to know the difference between image, monitor and printer resolutions? This book is a great intro to the world of digital graphics. The author writes in a witty, nontechnical manner, and manages to make even a technical topic a joy to read. The chapter on Internet images, however, lacks coverage of online photo albums such as ecircles and clubphoto. Perhaps the accompanying Web site at wambooli can pick up the slack.
