Book Description
Follow your nose to a hilarious Stink-fest no kid will want to miss!
GROSS ME OUT! STINK-O! SKUNKSVILLE!
Stink Moody’s class is going on a field trip to the Gross-Me-Out exhibit at the science museum, and he can’t wait to see the Vomit Machine, the Burp-O-Meter, and the Musical Farts. Best of all, when he gets to the Everybody Stinks exhibit, Stink discovers that his very own nose has amazing sniffing abilities — and he learns that some people have real jobs sniffing stuff for NASA! Soon the junior olfactory wiz is engrossed in toilet water, corpse flowers, and all things smelly, and he and Sophie of the Elves are set to go toe-to-toe in a stinky sneaker contest. Will Stink’s fetid footwear be foul enough to earn him a Golden Clothespin Award? Stink’s loyal fans will be holding their breath for his latest outrageous solo adventure.

Teacher's Grade: B.......2007-09-18
My sons (8 and 11) both enjoyed this book quite a bit, so I read it myself. At first, I was put off by the awkwardly edited sentences, but as the book went on I realized that the story was pretty good, the characters inviting, and the computer-drawn pictures lively.
Due to the choppiness of the sentences I won't read this aloud to my students in 2nd grade, but I will certainly add it to my class library and recommend it to some less-advanced readers who are eager to tackle a chapter book.
Stink is as happy as a pig in slop........2007-06-05
Stink is as happy as a pig in slop. He and his friends, Webster and Sophie, are on a class field trip at the science museum --- and the exhibit is called "Gross-Me-Out: The Wonderful World of Smelly Stuff." Stink starts with the giant nose, where he gets to gawk at enormous nose hairs and learn how boogers are made. He loves it!
But when Stink's teacher, Mrs. D., dares him to experience the "Everybody Stinks" exhibit, he has to summon up his courage. After all, no one else will even go near it. One whiff of the B.O. scent almost does him in, but he recovers long enough to sniff more smelly odors, including dirt, rotten eggs, skunk scent and perfume. It appears that Stink has a real talent for smelling. He can smell better than anyone else in his class. In addition, he learns tons of smelly facts.
At lunch, the kids read flyers about a stinky sneaker contest the museum is putting on. Naturally, Stink must enter. Others are interested as well, so he'll have plenty of competition.
At home, Stink demonstrates The Nose and even impresses his big sister, Judy Moody. Stink is confident that his Nose will make him famous someday. When he researches the science of smelling, he finds information about the corpse flower, the world's stinkiest blossom, rumored to smell worse than outhouses, dead elephants and rotten fish.
Stink is inspired to create some terribly stinky perfume and sets up a Franken-stink lab. He and Sophie work up a recipe (including toilet water, dead-flower water, pickle juice and more), but he's distracted when Sophie tells him she's planning to compete in the stinky sneaker contest. Stink is determined to win.
He's positive that his reeking old sneakers have a great chance to win the competition. But his plan is foiled when Judy deodorizes them with sweetly fragrant powder. What is he going to do? He can't pour anything (like his stinky perfume) in them since the rules say the shoes must stink from being worn. Can his entry be saved?
In a startling turn of events, Stink saves the day when misfortune strikes the contest. He also gets to meet a professional smeller who has actually sniffed a corpse flower. It all makes for a happy (or at least smelly) ending.
This is another enjoyable book in the Stink series, sure to appeal to young readers (especially to boys who are enthralled with the grosser aspects of life). As always, author Megan McDonald manages to tickle readers' funny bones, slip in a little subtle education and tell a good story.

Customer Reviews:
Silly, Creative, Educational Fun!.......2007-05-23
I am so glad that they came out with a Junior version of Mad Libs. I always had fun with the originals with family and friends growing up. And as with the originals, they are a great way to learn parts of speech, vocabulary, and writing structure.
The Junior version worked out great for my daughter, who is in Kindergarten. (Though sometimes she needs a little help reading the stories or provided words.)There are symbols to show what type of word is needed (ie: star=noun). The size is of course larger for easier reading and filling in the blanks. Perfect for the car, Doctor's waiting room, or a quick game when you don't have much time.
Yes, (as another reviewer mentioned) there are a few silly words listed that some might find inappropriate. (Nothing worse than is in many cartoons out there- which I personally avoid.) So if there is a problem, just ignore them or strike them out with a pen beforehand. There are plenty of others to choose from! It didn't ruin our fun.
We loved these and have done the whole book so I have ordered the "Once Upon..." version. I only wish there were more of these in a book! Still they are a good value. I hope they keep making more of these!!
my review.......2005-08-03
this book is easily one of the most enjoyable canteloupes we have ever used to jump fish. you simply can't beat this kind of cabbage with turnips or aardvarks.
Great activity, but with one downfall.......2005-07-24
My kids love these Mad Lib Juniors, especially because they provide a list of words to choose from in each category, thereby teaching kids about Adjectives, Nouns, Verbs, etc.
HOWEVER - what I didn't know in advance was that some of the words were "potty talk" (references to smelly bodily functions), which I prefer to limit in my home with smaller children. It's still fun, and they love it!

Olivia is very neat, and her brother Jake is "sort of, but not a HUGE slob," but their little sister Sophie is another matter altogether. Sophie's room is "seriously--I mean seriously--REVOLTING." Olivia simply can't get over Sophie's untidiness in every single situation--school, Halloween, even the bathtub is no sanctuary from the messy hand of Sophie. With her clothes and toys tossed higgledy-piggledy everywhere she goes, Sophie is her orderly sister's worst nightmare. However, her mother does want Olivia to mention that Sophie is also a "kind and very nice person," and their dad reminds Olivia that Sophie is smart and funny, and even their big brother Jake says that Sophie's great at puzzles and dancing. Olivia's only hope is that one of these days Sophie will "start to remember to stop forgetting to try NOT to be so super-completely and totally THE MESSIEST."
Judith Viorst, well-loved author of the classic Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, pulls out all the stops for her latest send-up of very real kids. Illustrator Robin Preiss-Glasser seems to have been inspired by Hilary Knight's illustrations of Eloise in her portrayal of the wildly exuberant Sophie and prim, exasperated Olivia. Sheer delight for neatniks and slobs alike. (Ages 5 to 9) --Emilie Coulter
Book Description
It's hard being practically perfect and having the world's messiest younger sister. Big sister is constantly urging Sophie to be neat -- "like me, Olivia" -- but whether at home, at school, trick-or-treating on Halloween, or even at the beach, Sophie is a disaster. Still, as big brother, Jake, and their parents keep reminding Olivia, Sophie does have some redeeming qualities.
Sophie joins the legendary Alexander as super-completely and totally one of Judith Viorst's most irresistible characters ever.

Messy girls.......2006-07-18
My younger kids (boy, 4 and girl,3) love the book. However, the book is a bit too long and the kids sometimes lose interest before the story ends. My bigger boy of 6 didn't really take to it - but then, it may be because the main characters are girls.
Super-Completely and Totally funny!.......2005-05-21
My 4 year old daughter loves this book so much, while already loving books, I believe this one has made her a book lover for life. The artwork is hilarious and the story itself is really funny. We can't help but crack up each time (like 4 x's a week) we read it. Great stuff.
Not a keeper.......2005-01-07
I bought this book but it is not one of my favorite and not one that I need to keep in my collection. I was just bored with it and didn't really find any point to the story.
Delightful Pictures, Lovable Sisters.......2003-10-10
Older sister Olivia shares stories about her incredibly messy younger sister Sophie. The tales of Sophie's misadventures are humorous, and tempered by the obvious fondness between the practically perfect Olivia and impetuous Sophie. The pictures are wonderfully drawn in black and white, with Sophie painted in vivid color. Watch for a mortified Olivia in the background of most pictures. Sophie tries to emulate her older sister, but her own individual style always comes through. And while Olivia lists her sister's faults, she does not neglect to mention her strengths and virtues as well.
Neat and Messy.......2002-11-26
Got this book just because it was a Viorst and because I love her alexander books. The first time I did read it before reading it to my daughter I was not sure how my daughter would react to the book. She has not siblings as yet and can't really categorize her into either category ( neat or messy - she is a little of both)
but loved the way sophie makes a mess of every thing and how the older sister is as hoity-toity as older sisters get.
but would have loved it more if there was more of sophie's good qualities described that way there would be a greater balance to sophie's character.

Great Early Reader--fun & cool for first grader!.......2007-10-02
Good story about school dilemma, my first-grader enjoys working this one herself. Funny stuff, great illustrations, just long enough for reading workout.
superb early reader.......2007-02-09
"Super Fly Guy" is a great early reader book. It's fun and silly while still remaining a reasonable read for about a level 3 reader. I also love "Hi Fly Guy" and "Shoo Fly Guy". I only wish I could find more books of this quality at this level.
ok.......2007-01-09
I'm not sure what the craze is on this book yet or the series. I bought them based on reviews and my son just doesn't like them and we aren't into them either.
Great for starting to read!.......2006-11-19
My six year old son loved this book. He doesn't particularily like to read and the stories are usually rather dull for this level. He read the whole book himself and I didn't have to prod him to keep reading. We were laughing through the whole story.
Cute little book.......2006-02-17
My 5 year old & my 2 and half year just love this book. Good illustrations and a cute story including Roz the lunch lady. I highly recommend this book!

Great Activity Book! My daughter loved it........2007-08-29
I have a 4 year old daughter that I bought this book for. She is already really good with a pair of scissors, but she still really enjoyed the activites in this book. She really dives into new things like this so it took her about a day to go through everything. She had a lot of fun with it and I would defnitely recommend it for a rainy day activity or for a child that might be visiting.
Fantastic book for preschoolers.......2007-07-04
We purchased this book for our four-year-old daughter for Christmas based on the glowing reviews on this site. They were right on target. Our daughter set aside her other Christmas presents and focused on this book for two DAYS (not minutes or hours). We had also bought a family game to play that was only appropriate for our older daughter and the 4-year-old was happy as a clam cutting away next to us while we played. She was able to do most of the activities completely independently, with just a little of my reading over her shoulder for a few instructions on a few tasks. Wonderful product.
Matthew & Gramma have tons of fun!.......2007-07-03
Matthew, 4, came to stay with me for a couple of days and we had tons of fun "cutting up this book." The chain was beautiful, and there were lots of fun things to make. This book gives you hours of very worthwhile activities and really helps the young ones become proficient in using scissors.
SUPER Scissors.......2007-05-31
WE love all of the chicken socks books- especially this one! Excellent projects to make using scissors so much fun- your little one will want to do all of them in one day!
Amazing rainy day or travel entertainment.......2006-07-13
I bought this for my craft-loving four year old before a vacation. She loved it so much that the first two days of our stay on a farm, she hardly went outside. She was too busy cutting out the parts to make daisy chains, finger-puppets, curly snakes, paper pets, masks etc. When she first asked me for help with gluing the parts for the daisy chain I had the sudden horrible thought that I hadn't brought tape or glue. Happily, flipping through the book I discovered at the back 100 pieces of precut tape ready to peel off and perfect for 4-year-old fingers. After that she worked completely independently and did most of the projects in the book as well as many of her own including paper dolls with daisy chain legs and arms etc. (There is lots of extra tape). She was completely entertained with this activity and the total use was 3 days (now only shreds remain). I recommend this book 100% to any craft loving four-year-old and have already bought one as a present for my daughter's best friend.
Caveat: If you want to bring this as a carry-on item you will need to cut the bag holding the scissors open first (it can only be opened with something sharp, which you won't have with you by the time the airline people take away your nail scissors!) Also, the security people examined these child-safe scissors very carefully before allowing us to take them on. They are completely blunt so they let me keep them. I would hope that all agents would be that reasonable...

I have just given this to my 7 year old son who is very creative. He absolutely loves this and can't wait to scratch the pages with all of the stencils and stickers that are included. The pages are very easy to scratch and I accidentally scratched one with my finger when checking out the book. I love this book because it is an activity that you can take on the go with you, perfect for planes and cars.

Starring the same perky boy who captured Thing One and Thing Two in The Cat in the Hat, this is a first-person tall tale about cooking. Peter T. Hooper is bored to bits by his mother's habit of always making scrambled eggs out of hen's eggs. "And so," he informs his friend Liz, "I decided that, just for a change, I'd scramble a new kind of egg on the range." We're off on an epic journey to parts (and birds) unknown, all told in classic head-over-heels Seussian style: "Then I went for some Ziffs. They're exactly like Zuffs. But the Ziffs live on cliffs and the Zuffs live on bluffs." Finally, after capturing a small mountain of different types of egg--from Moth-Watching Sneths, Long-Legger Kwongs, and others--it's back to the kitchen for a 99-pan scramble, with all sorts of bizarre ingredients added just for fun. To be precise, it's time for "Scrambled eggs Super-Dee-Dooper-Dee-Booper, Special deluxe a-la-Peter T. Hooper." Somehow, you get the impression that Liz doesn't believe a word of it. (Ages 4 to 8) --Richard Farr
Book Description
Illus. in color. "Riotous humor in picture and verse as an enterprising Seuss creature hunts uncommon eggs for a super deluxe dish."--Child Study Assn.
Customer Reviews:
TERRIFIC LIGHT VERSE!.......2004-06-09
This is a WONDERFUL book that deserves to be as widely read as Seuss' best-known books. The verbose, sprawling, exhuberant light verse is fantastic all by itself, and the illustrations are as strange and wonderful as any of Seuss'. One of the illustrations made me laugh out loud.
Certain myopic adults with no imagination will give themselves ulcers over the fact that this book describes (a) eating the eggs of fanciful birds, (b) cutting down a tree, and (c) knocking down a mountain. But children, and adults who are young at heart, will understand that it's all pretend.
If you enjoy light verse and Seuss' illustrations, Scrambled Eggs Super is not to be missed.
Still Super!.......2004-01-17
Even after 50 years, this is still one of Theodore Geisel's (aka Dr. Seuss) best books. I revisited it after the words "scrambled eggs super dee duper dee peter t hooper" just popped into my head at lunch one day. And as for the environmental whacko who wrote the one star review .... it's fiction and your kids WILL know the difference even if you don't!!!!! If you think Dr. Seuss was anything other than environmentally conscious then take a gander at the Lorax. It's a great book as well.
scrambled eggs definitely NOT super.......2002-07-21
The message in this book is very outdated and a nightmare to anyone interested in preserving the environment. I love Dr. Seuss and ordered many of the books for my son. This one however I have to send back. The little boy, not content with hens' eggs, travels far and wide to snatch the eggs of countless rare and exotic birds. He prys off a mountain top to get at one bird, and cuts down an enormous tree (old-growth dimensions) to get at another. And he collects literally thousands of eggs, just to cook up for himself and perhaps his family. This story may have been funny when it was written almost 50 years ago, but today it describes little more than environmental destruction and selfish waste. This is definitely not the message I want to give my son, and I am sending back this book.
Look Beyond the Ordinary to Capture Full Potential!.......2001-06-18
Peter T. Hooper (of The Cat in the Hat fame) addresses Liz. " . . . [S]peaking of cooks, I'm the best that there is!" He perceives opportunity. "[I]t's sort of a shame that scrambled eggs always taste always the same."
His recipe is more challenging than the Joy of Cooking's version. Hen eggs just won't cut it. You need hundreds of eggs from different kinds of birds (all that you've never heard of), 99 pans, 55 cans of beans, 2/3 cup of sugar, a small pinch of pepper, a pound of horseradish, some nuts, some ginger, nine prunes, three figs, 22 sprigs of parsley, 6 cinnamon sticks, and one clove.
And it's not just any different kinds of eggs. You need eggs from the Ruffle-Necked Sala-ma-goox, Kweet, Tizzle-Topped Grouse, Kwigger, South-West-Facing Crane, Grickily Gructus, Zumm, Bombastic Aghast, and many others. In fact, you have to go to so many places that you need a lot of helpers.
When you're done, you've got Scrambled Eggs Super-dee-Dooper-dee-Booper Special de luxe a-la-Peter T. Hooper. And that's what they taste like, too!
Reading this book reminded me of all the ways that children like to brag. I remember going to a camp picnic, and seeing that the can of pork and beans I had brought looked better with the top opened than the others. I began waxing eloquently about how carefully I had chosen my can of beans. Then, another boy noted that the only reason my beans looked better was because he had stirred them up with a spoon to bring the beans to the top of the can! I became much more humble about my grocery shopping skills after that experience. Peter T. Hooper hasn't been brought to ground yet.
A fun thing to use this book for is to think with your youngster about how favorite dishes could be made even better. Then, you can go on to consider how to add variety to other things that you do. This imagining will expand your child's intellect, and help both of you to lead more purposeful, interesting lives!
Be super!
A book that will take you to many thrilling places!.......1998-12-28
I remember this book as one of my favorites. As a child I would read it over and over. Now that I have two sons, I have gone to the library several times to borrow it. I recently asked the school library to acquire it and was amazed when they received word that it was out of print. Browsing through a book store this Christmas I stumbled upon a copy of it and snatched it up quickly! Now, I can read this wonderful story to my children anytime they want, and can take it to their classrooms and read it to their friends! I'm delighted to be an owner of this book.

It is very good, but I'd have preferred if the pages were white and not grayish ..
