4 out of 5 stars Good read ...BUT.......2007-04-11

Good illustrations but not that easy for a DVD STudio Pro 'Dummy'. I found that I had to go to the Apple DVD Studio Pro manual from the net to work out what to do. Then, after I had a basic understanding, and a few hours of fiddling on the computer, this book came to life for me and was very useful. Particularly the project workshops.

3 out of 5 stars Not Worth the money, but still pretty good.......2005-12-08

I've been in a fight w/ Apple and Peachpit over this 'new' version of DVDSP4.
I'm an Apple cert. instructor for this and other ProApps. When I started reading the new book I found the same mistakes from version 3 had been copied over to version 4.

Granted, the new compressor app is great but nowhere does it explain the new features of DVDSP4 like support for external video, VTS editing and the whole HD support. I was told by Apple and Peachpit that this version of the book was intended to be an 'revision' of the old book; however, the general advertising of this book says 'Fully Update' instead of 'Fully Revised'... a bit misleading to the people who thought this version would help instruct students on how to best use the new features. We'll have to wait.

Book Description

The goal of this book is to apply the principles of acoustics to the audio arts. This involves serving as an interpreter of major trends and the literature for students and practitioners in the audio field. Along with covering the more theoretical aspects of acoustics, the book applies the theory to the design of specialized audio spaces such as the home listening room, the control room, and the multi-track-recording studio.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Title may be misleading.......2007-07-25

There are two common definitions of the word "acoustics." The most general is "an area of physics dealing with sound and sound waves" and the second is "the qualities of a room that determine audibility and fidelity of sound in it." This book is a very good reference for the latter, but if you're looking for the former, look elsewhere. Also, I'm not sure I would describe it as a Handbook, but rather as a reference text.

It is good for what it does cover and is relatively easy to read.

5 out of 5 stars A book for the advnaced.......2007-07-09

A great book, but can be too advanced for some. A lot of physics is included - which is great - but perhaps some previous knowledge or some side reading is a good idea.

Over all, excellent book, and a goldmine to buy.

5 out of 5 stars Good book.......2007-05-11

It is nice REFERENCE book for practicing sound engineer. If you in a process of setting up your home studio and need quick and meaningful start get Acoustics for producer and musician, includes SoundsAcademy Certification and it will take you inside the subject fast and straight to the point.

This book addresses room acoustics and in this regard is superb reference but many music related aspects of acoustics aren't there. For room acoustics treatment this book is very useful though.

5 out of 5 stars A recording studio masterpiece.......2006-04-27

OK, so this does not cover ALL acoustincs. If one is interested in recording or playback acoustics, this is THE BEST. As an engineer and producer who has been involved in the construction of a dozen studios, I have the clients and architects read this before we start hard design parameters. For lay listeners, the chances are good your audio budget is better spent on acoustic treatment rather than a more exotic cable. For all of the above, this book will explain the what, why and how to get results. For professionals, it explains how to obtain designable results. I find it an easy read, and I refer to it occasionally, particularly when discussing room acoustics with neophyte "sound men" and audio engineers. I'd read it if I were you.

3 out of 5 stars Have you got time?.......2006-03-27

Despite its title, this book should better be called Master Handbook of Room Acoustics, as it is primarily and almost solely dedicated to the acoustics of enclosed rooms. With its over 600 pages you will need a large hand, and plenty of time to read. But the information you gather when reading the main text, could have been presented in less than half the number of pages. Despite - or is it because - the abundance of words and excursions into anecdotes, the explanations are sometimes missing the clue. The last few chapters have been written by others authors, and are more to the point. Besides, these co-authors use the SI system, while the main text is using American units. A bit out of time, I would say.

4 out of 5 stars Great beginner book.......2007-02-19

I have been recording a little on my Fostex MR8 and a little on my computer. I have a few audio editing programs, but was just fuddling through. I didn't know the difference between a dynamic mic and a condenser, didn't know how to properly mic a cabinet, or even which frequencies bring out the best aspects of an instrument. This book solved all of those programs. If you need detailed info on computer recording or MIDI, go elsewhere. If you want a good smattering of audio, digital, computer, and MIDI recording, this is the book for you.

4 out of 5 stars very useful book but it won't answer all of your questions.......2007-02-07

I've just started recording on my pc on a budget, this book has definitely provided some helpful tips. Since I'm recording exclusively on the pc, it has alot of information I don't need since it covers a variety of recording methods. The Dummies book for PC recording may have been a better choice for me, but I haven't read it so I can't be sure. If you're just getting started like me, I don't think this book will answer all your questions. But along with some internet browsing and some questions at your local music store, this book is useful so at least you have a basic idea of what to ask and look for.

5 out of 5 stars Lots of useful information.......2007-02-06

According to my 17-year-old guitar and drum playing son, this book has lots of useful information for home recording. He's got a Tascam 8-track recording deck in the basement and has used this book to learn how to better use the Tascam. I guess I'd recommend it to anyone who does home recording. If my kid finds it useful, I'm sure you will, too. Unless you're already a home recording expert.

4 out of 5 stars Recommended.......2006-08-18

A good read for the amateur recordist. The book is easy to understand and covers a vast array of concepts.

5 out of 5 stars Great Introduction.......2006-03-24

Just good all around info, for the novice. Much can be learned by the newbie, and this book will facilitate greater understanding, as the reader progresses to much deeper and complicated material. I highly recommend it, unless you already have a good fundemental grasp of the subject. I've been involved with it (recording) for a while, and basically bought it for friends and musicians to review. Even so, I still learned a thing or two myself. Good book, for it's intended audiance.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Pretty comprehensive.......2007-01-09

This book is useless if you already own "The Master Handbook of Acoustics" by the same author. However as the title suggests it's all about being on a budget, which it explains fairly well. If you are building a projects studio in your house for example..this is a must read.

5 out of 5 stars Too technical for and audio "engineer"?!? LOL.......2006-04-27

This book is an update of Everest's classic "Acoustic Design for Home and Studio". It is great for what it is. For more capable types, Everest's "Master" book is more complete. This one has the basics. For those who thought this is too technical, I wonder how they expect to deal with the other aspects of audio engineering. Just knowing how to twist a knob is not a path to excellence.

In actuality this is a well written, very direct primer, starting with very basic physics, and leading to easy design engineering. It's not hard to calculate, design, finance or construct good acoustics, and the payoff is huge. It does require a modest amount of work, and calculations to get good data. Remember: "Garbage in, garbage out." Acoustics control your recording and playback. This book will give you a fighting chance.

3 out of 5 stars too technical.......2004-09-25

if you are on a financial budget, you are likely on a time budget, and this book can be a time sucker. it reminded my of my high school trigonometry book. I didn't spend much time with that, either. To the defense of the writer, my friends in the business who actually know what they are doing, swear by this guy and his books. I, however, am just trying to make a room in my house sound a little better, and could care less to know about the science behind it any more than I care about the science behind a combustion engine while I'm driving. I recommend 'basic home studio design' by paul white. simple, small, easy, the minimum that you need to know- but as much as i think 90% would need.

2 out of 5 stars WAAAAY TOO TECHNICAL.......2002-07-25

Too much time spent on the mathematics of sound transfer and acoustics. Not enough on how to build the studio. Could not find a "complete parts list" for any of the plans. This is not for someone looking to build a simple studio. Very technical and boring.

4 out of 5 stars great advice, but dont stop here.......2001-11-06

as another reviewer says, this appears to be the previous edition of what is currently titled "how to build a small budget recording studio....". also, as another reviewer has noted, you dont have to read it in order -- each example project its its own chapter with its own self-contained presentation. each example does stress diffferent design goals that translate to different acoustic treatments.

its a little annoying that every page seems to be an advertsemen for an rpg product. this is mitigated by the author's inclusion of journal and patent references that tell you everything you need to know to build these treatments yourself if you like. or if your budget doesnt allow for the beautiful wood forms from rpg, just take the keywords and run -- diffusor, absorber, abfussor -- and its easy to find someone besides rpg that makes the things using less expensive materials.

i enjoyed the book enough that i'm ordering the next edition. i also recommend his book on stereo theory if you want an overview of the psychoacoustics involved.

Book Description

With advances in digital technology, musicians can now produce their own music. But the gear is only part of the equation when it comes to recording and mixing. The next part is finding a soundproof room that you can produce it in. Unfortunately, any old room in your house will not suffice for a quality recording. Without a decent room, you'll never be able to record a studio-quality recording you'll be proud of and be excited to have other people hear. So how do you go about creating a space in your home that has similar acoustics to that of a world-class studio? How do you soundproof this room to keep your sound in and outside noise out? How do you construct or modify the room so that its size and shape best complement its function? This book teaches you how to do all these things, from building a professional home studio to saving thousands of dollars in the process. This book shows you how to design and understand your room - how to treat it, wire it, and condition it while using widely available materials. Each step features visual aids to illustrate underlying concepts, as well as professional tips and examples from actual studios. Everything is covered, from room design to electrical considerations, room treatments to codes, permits, special needs, and more.

5 out of 5 stars Must Read.......2007-09-28

If you are planning on building a studio, then you must read this book. If you are thinking of having a contractor build a studio for you, then have THEM read this book too. Rods experience shows throughout this book by giving readers detailed explanations and drawings, clear, consise directions, theory for the "why am I..." and more. Anyone who is determined to build a studio, correctly, can do so with the help of this book. My studio would not be close to what it is today without his help.

Rod's book is very well written and easy to follow.
Answers a lot of questions in a straight up way.

Helped me a bunch already.

5 out of 5 stars "Build it like the pros".......2007-09-04

I've read this book twice through now and I'm still learning new things. I've been able to apply almost everything in this book to a basement studio build that I'm doing. The title says it all: "Home recordings studio - Build it like the pro's".
It's a book that explains how professional recording studios are built - and then applies that knowledge and science (in a very readable format) to how it could be used to BUILD a home recording studio. Rod explains a lot of physics without using complex math and a lot of construction techniques without going over your head or boring you with technical step-by-step jargon.
To address some of the negative posts here - I think those readers were looking for a way to "build" a recording studio - without having to "build" anything. Even then - I think this book does a great job of addressing Acuostic treatement of rooms and such.
At any rate - it's a very thorough book that explains a lot in a very readable way.

5 out of 5 stars From the basics to the complex things.......2007-08-16

If you are new in the topic this book is going to help you, undoubtedly. There is a little mess with the "Home" in the title, but there's no problem with it: the book covers from the "Home" to the "Professional" world very well. It describes several of the most efficent DIY designs which can be used even in professional studios, but one thing people doesn't understand is: There is no easier way to get professional insulation with "home tricks", so the book explains the only ways to get it (not cheap, not easy). There are no miracles in acoustics, so just go with it till you cover your needs, either for home, semi-professional or professional studio.

2 out of 5 stars Waste of time.......2007-01-10

If your hope is to work with the equipment and space you have, this is probably not the book for you. The author uses the book to advertise lots of expensive brand merchandise starting on page one. There's also little you can learn from this book unless you are willing and capable of making major structural modifications to your space. "Home" recording studio is a misnomer, if you ask me, unless your home happens to have an unused wing that you can spend a year or so reconstructing as a professional studio. The narrow focus may be perfect for those people who have the time and resources (money for contractors, etc.) to do it, but there were only about five sentences in the whole book that applied to my situation. If you consider yourself more a musician than an engineer, I would not recommend it. I would give it three stars since it is obviously useful to some people, but some horribly unedited writing throughout the book (such as, "Yes, sir, just like magic - it disappeared, and here you've been told that magic doesn't exist.") brought it down a star.

5 out of 5 stars Insightful for Power Users..........2007-05-13

This book is chock full of interesting ideas and strategies for sound-designers and composers using Reason. It's fairly well written, and provides excellent logic-diagrams and tips for building devices using the Combinator that I hadn't thought of. Many examples are multi-device applicable - so even people that don't exclusively use Reason can learn things about general synthesis and sound-design. As other people have noted: THIS IS NOT FOR BEGINNERS. Highly recommended for sound-designers, medium/advanced users and performers.

5 out of 5 stars Great book for learning some practical synthesis techniques.......2007-03-29

This book will teach you some very useful and practical synthesis techniques that are used in popular electronic music. Almost all the examples he walks the reader through ends with "oh! that's how they do that!" I have been doing electronic music off and on for over 10 years and was wanting to learn some new techniques and this book definately did the job. As a double-wammy, if you're familiar with synthesis you can apply everything you learn to other programs and hardware.

I got this book a couple a weeks ago and have to say that it is pretty cool. It is not for beginners. It will show you more advanced concepts of Reason 3.0. Still working my way through the book. Very cool.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic book.......2007-01-23

This book really covers the program in incredible detail. It's not a book that can be skimmed through. You really need to have your highlighter handy as you read it. There's a lot to absorb even for someone who has used Reason before. The chapters on "Essential Shortcuts" and "Control Voltages" alone are worth the price of admission.

5 out of 5 stars Simply Excellent.......2007-01-06

This book is very well written, clear and informative. It consists of step-by-step examples, and concise explanations of audio engineering concepts, that are essential reading for anyone serious about making electronic music with Reason

The text is laid out in a logical sequence, starting with sections on fundamental concepts such as keyboard shortcuts, and Control Voltage (CV) usage, both of which are required reading for the sections on effects, mastering, drum programming etc. The result is a text that builds upon itself, slowly re-enforcing the earlier information as the book progresses. I recommend treating it like a text book, following it from start to finish, and performing each example in turn.

Considering the complexity of the subject matter, I find it remarkable how clearly the concepts are explained in this book. I've been using Reason for 4 years and am realizing I've only scratched the surface of what is possible. I wish I'd had this book from day 1.

Note: For the full benefit I recommend using Reason 3.0 with this book as opposed to an earlier version

5 out of 5 stars Great book for techie but new to audio........2007-06-27

I just started to work with the technical group at Church and needed to come up to speed on audio systems. I'm an amateur radio operator (ham) so technical things didn't scare me but I just didn't know about the equipment or concepts.

This was a great book to show me what's out there, how it's controlled and what to look for.

I've realized the world is ratio's and this book did a great job showing how things are processed and reasons why they are that way. Great book to learn from and a fantastic book to double check others thoughts. (Yea, politics)

Best book I've seen so far on audio systems to date.

5 out of 5 stars You will understand audio after reading this book........2005-06-27

Begin (and end) your quest for audio knowledge as it relates to a studio and modern recording with one book. It delivers what the title promises, an understanding of audio (even if you're not building a studio). I found UNDERSTANDING AUDIO an immensly practical and comprehensive volume explaining "everything you needed to know about audio", whether you're a layman, student or professional. From start to finish, the explanations of concepts, processes, and technical definitions were abundantly clear and free of unnecessary techno-babble. This is used as a text at Boston's Berklee College of Music, but don't let that scare you, rather embrace it. (especially since you won't have to pay the tuition fee) The writing is concise with well chosen words and the information is top notch stuff. Designed to give you a complete overview of the various and interactive components of "audio", it more than does so and in my opinion, better than any other comparable book on the market today at any price.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Guide!.......2005-04-05

Through friends I heard about Berklee Press' books and decided to check out a few titles at the local bookstore. I was very impressed and requested a catalog, and in the catalog I found Understanding Audio: Getting the Most Out of Your Project or Professional Recording Studio. Being a novice in the sound recording world, I decided to risk the $25 and buy the book. Let me tell you it was $25 well spent. This book explains, in a very understandable way, basic and advanced audio techniques. One thing I found most useful was it explained how putting a microphone at different angles produces a different type of sound. It also goes as far as showing the history of recording studios and their technology. This was a perfect book for me because it is not only a handbook for intermediate to advanced level sound engineers, but it also serves as a beginners guide to sound as well. The graphic examples are extremely accurate and helpful, and the in depth detail of every topic is excellent. This is a great book for anyone currently working or planning on working in the recording field.

5 out of 5 stars Build a Better Sound.......2005-02-02

I recently embarked on the adventure of transforming my basement into a functioning recording studio. Shortly after beginning the process I realized I was way in over my head. However, after reading "Understanding Audio", all of my questions have been answered. After providing you with a basis for understanding how sound works, Thompson gives several suggestions and techniques for setting up your equipment for optimal sound quality. Project guidelines are given at the end of each chapter which help you apply the techniques discussed. I'm happy to say that my studio is nearly finished and I am thoroughly pleased with the sound quality it is producing. I definitely recommend this book to anyone thinking about building their own studio, or for anyone who is interested in learning more about the way sound works.

Book Description

Make your small home studio sound huge! Guerrilla Home Recording is a revolutionary approach to getting great sound in a home or project studio. Author Karl Coryat breaks down the process by showing how to think in terms of three simple "dimensions of sound," and then explains step by step how this can help you achieve amazingly clean recordings with maximum impact. Best of all, you don't need the latest pro gear to do it. You'll learn: how to make even the noisiest gear dead quiet * getting instruments to sound crisp and distinct in a mix * making drum programs and sequences sound like they were played live * getting the most out of a limited number of tracks or mixer channels * blending tracks together into a professional-sounding mix * fun projects and exercises to sharpen your ear for sound * and how to avoid the most common mistakes amateur recordists make.

4 out of 5 stars Great book!.......2007-07-20

This is a great book for anyone that owns a home studio. I will explain why I gave it 4 stars in a bit.

First of all, its a catchy read. The diction and style of his writing is very calm and friendly, as if you were speaking with him in person. This is what will hook you!

Secondly, the chapters are very well divided into sections such as "How to Record almost Anything" and many others.

In a sense, it may seem a little childish and not-so-accurate, but at the same time, the reader must remember that it takes it all back to basics to lay the foundation for future learning. The best way to learn in the studio is do observe, try, fail, and experiment. This book will spark that interest.

I have been recording my own music for a few years now and I find that this book gave me some helpful insight and great tips for EQ settings, and the importance of experimentation. It's a great little book! The only reason I gave this book 4 stars was because many of the things I felt like I already knew, however, there were times when he would hint that he was going to go in deeper about a subject, and he only told me a few things I didnt know and many that I knew. THAT is a PERSONAL preference, so for someone that knows little to none about home recording, this book could be a LIFE SAVER!

I would say this: If you own a consumer home studio, you cant go wrong by OWNING this book. Even if it doesnt help you incredibly, this book IS useful and thought provoking, which is the most important part: it will spark your interest to learn and try new things in your studio.

4 out of 5 stars Advice from a patient friend.......2007-02-09

The title of this book is somewhat inaccurate, since it doesn't really cover a wide variety of types of studio gear or types of recording. Rather, reading this book is more like spending several hours in the particular studio of one patient, experienced home recordist who is generous with his time in explaining, engagingly, his own set-up and how he uses it.

A problem anyone new to home recording will confront is the feeling of coming in late on the conversation: frustratingly, the manuals for even entry-level gear seem to have been written by engineers (often, Japanese engineers) who assume everyone else has been working with audio recording gear since at least 1950, just like them. And, it is always engineers, not musicians, who write the manuals. Thus, we get instruction on "attenuation" instead of being told how to produce a diminuendo, and we get pots instead of knobs.

A key benefit of this book is that it is written by a musician, and explains what the engineers are talking about in words musicians use.

This is, overall, an outstanding book for any musician assembling a home studio. The author understands, from experience, that no home studio is going to match a pro one, and that understanding how to use ordinary gear is more valuable than spending many thousands of dollars on equipment that won't achieve much benefit outside the environment of one of those pro studios. The author's specific target is a recording that will sound good to a musical listener, while realizing that a home studio will never impress (or fool) a pro sound engineer. Particularly valuable here is his advice on when to stop trying -- e.g., he is right that recording drum sets in a home studio is bound to lead to disappointment, so why spend a few more hundred or thousand dollars on a set of matching drum mikes?

The author plainly came of age in recording well before the digital era. As a result, his recommended set-up is perhaps heavier on hardware, and makes less full use of software, than a brand new set-up would. As an example, he considers a hardware mixer a core piece of equipment, and devotes considerable space to describing work-arounds to deal with the limited connections available on most (affordable) hardware mixers. Whether a hardware mixer is needed anymore if you are using mixing software is an open question (and a good way to start heated arguments on the appropriate forums). Still, understanding how to use a hardware mixer will make using mixing software much easier, since most software products aim to emulate the functions of hardware models.

The book is a nice mix of specific tips, general theory, background explanation, problem-solving, and arcanely entertaining trivia. The more detailed tips tend to be specific to rock recording, so musicians in other genres may get less out of this book. However, at the price there is plenty here to benefit any musician wanting to make home recordings.

I docked one star from my rating out of irritation with small factual inaccuracies (e.g., the author doesn't understand that the panning of a drum set can be affected by whether the drummer is left-handed) and larger limitations (e.g., the author has never learned to record with multiple mikes and therefore never explains how to do this -- his approach is strictly one track at a time.) Again, though, for the money this is a great book to have.

4 out of 5 stars Guerilla Home Recording.......2007-01-29

This has been a really helpful book. He goes into detail about what separates professional from amature recordigs, and shows you how to get those sounds. Also, a lot of tips and tricks for people to cheat a lot of things. I gave the book a 4 out of 5 though because the subtitle is "no matter how weird of cheap your gear is." This is not really covered much in the book. He also strongly suggests, without saying it outright, that there is a lot of gear you will need to get a good sound, and if you don't have it, you should try to find a way to pick it up. Overall a good read and he makes a lot of concepts that I didn't undestand before comprehendable.

5 out of 5 stars Basic but a must have.......2007-01-19

This book is definately for all levels of Recording. Very straight and to the point. Very clear and concise, and doesnt limit you to having to have a specific piece of gear.

5 out of 5 stars Really informative book!.......2007-01-18

I bought this book for my son who is into home recording but had some questions. He said he got some great ideas and saw that he was doing some things wrong. For instance, he had the wrong kind of speakers for recording. I bought him 3 or 4 books on this subject and this one was his favorite.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Should be for construction engineer.......2007-01-15

I thought it was going to cover the entire aspects of the recording studio including the suitable equipments, unfortunately it was just directed toward the construction. I'm not the construction engineer so why would I care too much on the details. I think basic theory on the construction is enough and more elaboration is needed for the furniture and equipment selection.

2 out of 5 stars Not very helpful.......2004-07-14

This book was a big disappointment. I was hoping for detailed instructions for the construction of a studio, and what I got was a refresher course in Acoustics 101. The book has a lot of theory which could be helpful to someone that doesn't already know about diffusion, absorbtion and reflection of sound waves. What it doesn't have is room dimensions, angles of walls, or decent illustrations. The illustration for a garage multi-track studio was literally a line drawing of a square with a bisecting line across the corner signifying what would be a disfunctional control room. If you're not ready to build a studio and want some good information on room modes and acoustics, this is a good enough book. If you want to apply these principles and actually build a studio, there are better instructions on several free websites.

5 out of 5 stars Thank you for your help.......2004-07-07

I used this book as a reference to build a private studio where I record the CDs for my label. It sounds great, reverberation is under control and low, over the whole spectrum. And it cost me HALF of what I'd expect. I used two regular doors instead of a professional grade studio door (I got this money saving idea in this book), I designed my air condinioning using his ideas (it is quiet and has no sound leakage), the cables go into the recording booth using ideas that I found here. The studio has been in operation for four years and everybody loves the sound. I can't praise it enough. My label's web site is outrosdiscos.com.br in case you want to know what was recorded here.

1 out of 5 stars Not helpful at all........2001-10-09

For example, the only help this book give you as far as treating the acoustic of a project studio is to tell you to buy a certain particular brand, RPG, and get 4 of their bass traps, 4 of their absorbant panels and 2 diffusors, and where to place them. No different option is discussed, no alternative....

And when you find out that this option amounts to around $3,000.00, and the author concludes: "this option represents the very minimum defense against the effects of early reflections, the minimum of bass absorption and the minimum of rear-wall diffusion. Much potential improvements remains."....you start wondering about the "budget" he's talking about in the title.

I wish he'd mention the fact that a couch or a love seat make for a great bass trap, that pannels of 703 or 705 fiberglass covered in burlap fabric make much greater absorbants than foam for much cheaper, and that a cluttered shelve makes for a great diffusor....

The rest of the book is filled with mathematical equations and tables and graphs that lack some clear explanations. The book is discouraging at best, boring and not reflective of it's title.

3 out of 5 stars New edition, good!.......2000-04-29

I own a previous edition. I read it very carefully. The book is very useful, if we understand the word. I mean that if you want to build a Recording Studio, fast cheap and easy, read this book. There were serious incongruences in the previous edition I hope to find renewed in this one. For example, the cutoff frequency value, which in the Master Handbook of Acoustics is set to a certain value, in this book has another value! both books have been authored by Mr. Everest. I will try this new edition and more comments will come up. Anyway, buy the book. If you use the recommendations given by Mr. Everest, you will earn money.

Book Description

Dora shares one of her very first big adventures -- going to the potty!

By pressing the button, toddlers will become familiar with the toilet's flushing sound. This is a perfect tool to help little explorers feel comfortable and confident about using the potty!

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Not impressed.......2007-05-20

My toddler is a huge Dora fan, and she will like this book because it is a Dora product, but beyond that, it really isn't that great. The story line is unimaginative (once Dora was a baby and wore diapers, now she is a big girl and uses the potty) and it does not keep my daughter's attention all the way through. Too wordy! Also, the button to make the flushing sound is too difficult for her to push on her own.

4 out of 5 stars Good Teaching Aid.......2006-01-16

Although we are still in the process of training, my daughter loves reading her Dora Potty Book and pushing the button. She has several "push the button" type potty books and the Dora one is the quietest of these (depending on your view that good be a good or a bad thing). If you have a little Dora fan then this book should be a good choice for you. The language is basic and to understand. Wish us luck!

5 out of 5 stars Good Dora Book..........2006-01-10

My husband and I bought this book for our 18 month old daughter because she loves Dora and we're starting to talk about potty training. We bought it three days ago and we've read it about ten times to her. At the moment she just loves it because it's Dora, but hopefully in time; once she gets closer to understanding the whole potty training thing, it'll serve a helpful purpose. There's a little button that kids can push that makes a toilet flushing sound. She can't quite push it yet so we have to do it for her.
