The Title Says It all.......2007-08-17
If you want to go back to your school days and have no interaction with the subject matter then this book is OK. But to work on your photos and learn what you want to do to them forget it. Way to structured, more suited to a textbook in a real class room where you can ask the teacher "how do I do this", forget it.
UGH! Frustrating and too project driven........2007-08-06
I imagine this book would be fine for someone who has never used Photoshop, and just wants to be walked through a tiny bit of the program. This was a required text for a graphics class on electronic imagery, and I found it to be frustratingly limiting, to say the least.
For instance, one project has you going into a folder to access the background and other images for a collage. This is fine if that is what you want to do, but what if you want to find your own background, add your own images, or heaven forbid, explore some of the possibilities with the huge selection of tools Photoshop offers? This book covers just a tiny portion of a drop in the proverbial bucket, and I found myself supplementing this text with SEVERAL other books, as it is a very "think inside the box" kind of text. There are a myriad of ways to do things within the Photoshop program. (Just one of the great joys, in my opinion, of working with Photoshop) I don't believe this book in any way, shape, or form, relays that to the reader.
If you are looking for a good introductory text for Photoshop, keep looking! This one is sadly lacking!
Nice.......2007-07-05
This is an excellent product for any beginner. I had no clue about CS2 until I started this book. This should be in your library if you're using CS2
Adobe Photoshop CS2 Classroom in a Book.......2007-06-10
This book is the worst photoshop book I have ever used! In almost evey lesson he leaves out intructions. He acts like you did the lesson before. He does eveything the hard way. I hate this book and I would not give it a star. It takes forever to finish and I have to go to my NAPP help to do it the right way. I have not learned anything from this book. Don't buy it. Deb
Amazing.......2007-06-09
Along with the disc, the step-by-step instructions to do certain exercises, is just what I needed!!! This book was a requirement for school, and I know I'll be using it for a VERY long time to come!!!

Low rating not product, but Amazon crappy service!.......2007-10-03
Two different orders made on same day, Amazon charged me for product twice and sent me two copies of the book I had ordered. I despise overseas customer service! Could not understand them, period! Website said they would not need verification of my account since I had contacted them through the website, Wrong! I am curious I they were dinking around or if the website is wrong. I do not trust them now with my information. Second attempt got english speaking person, maybe American, but seemed the be standoff-ish as if they could tell I had called before. Said my problem could have been a cookie that was on my computer from the Amazon website and this was why the item was sent twice. Given a couple of drawn out solutions. Very frustrating! Found link to send book back to Amazon as a wrong ordered item. I was not given this option on the phone. I want them to have their property back and I want it done quick so I don't have to pay interest on the charge on my account for this item. Absolute nightmare! I could have bought local, saved money and my time! I'll go elsewhere!!!!
SEE SPOT RUN.......2007-09-29
I signed up for a computer graphics illustrator class at the college and after the first week almost dropped out. A friend sugested I buy ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR CLASSROOM IN A BOOK. With the aid of the book I learned the program, applied my creative skills, completed the class with an A grade. The ADOBE CLASSROOM IN A BOOK series has been a real help to me.
Great Book.......2007-09-22
I really like this book because it helped me learn new things that wasn't taught in school. I which I had bought this book and others like it before I spent so much money going to graphic design school online.
If you are interested in learning graphic design, get this book.
Thorough, Easy to Follow.......2007-09-14
This books gives a very thorough walk-through of Illustrator CS2. If you already have knowledge of other design software, or have lightly used Illustrator previously, the chapters are set up in a methodical manner that are easy to follow and cover all of the options available in this powerful software. The book comes with a CD containing practice files, which further enhances the learning experience.
Over the past year I had taught myself how to use Illustrator, but going through this book has completely raised my level of expertise.
It does help if you are not a complete novice, but if you are, you will learn everything you need to know to create vector art.
Good Intro to CS2.......2007-09-09
I have CS2 and found this to be a solid introduction to the basics of this complicated program. Much in the tradition of the Photoshop7 book. Do every lesson 2-3 times if you are new to Photoshop.
Book Description
With its ever-tightening integration with Adobe's full suite of creative products and its own increasingly sophisticated feature set, InDesign is winning legions of Quark and FrameMaker converts. If you’re among them–or if you've decided to sidestep those programs altogether–you need this book. In these pages, the Adobe Creative Team uses a series of project-based lessons to provide a thorough grounding in the InDesign school of page design. You'll find step-by-step lessons in InDesign CS2 fundamentals plus plenty of the advanced tips and techniques you need to take your page designs to the next level. The workbook-style format includes self-paced lessons followed by review questions to reinforce the knowledge and a CD with all of the files required to complete the book's projects. Throughout, special focus is given to the features new to InDesign CS: the new Adobe Bridge file browser; object styles, snippets, smarter text handling, the ability to hide or show layers in Photoshop and PDF files, and much more.
Customer Reviews:
Very helpful.......2007-05-09
I am a convert from PageMaker, so I was already familiar with a lot of the functions in InDesign. However, the book has still been very beneficial. The examples and already finished or almost finished documents that come on the disc are great tools to learn with.
The book is easy to read, despite being written by Adobe. Sometimes the only way to learn is to buy a book written by a third party, but I've found that is not the case here. Adobe did a great job.
What about CS3?.......2007-04-21
I'm only giving it 1 star because CS3 has now been released, so the book is of modest value except for those who wish not to take advantage of the new and improved. Try taking this one to a used book store and you'll see that at "1" it's over-rated.
Aside from that, this is an excellent series of manuals, particular valuable as software publishers no longer include manuals! As they say at O'Reilly: "The book that should have been in the box."
Adobe InDesign CS2 Classroom in a Book.......2007-03-15
This book is extremely helpful with the Adobe InDesign program I wish I would have had it a year ago!!
Classroom in a book InDesign CS2.......2007-01-06
An excellent way to learn the program in depth working from the CD and book simultaneously at your own pace. Money well spent.
Book Description
As much art book as guide,
The Photoshop and Painter Artist Tablet Book: Creative Techniques in Digital Painting uses traditional drawing and painting theory exercises, coupled with real-life projects, to show readers how they can use Painter and Photoshop with pressure-sensitive tablets to draw and paint with a computer. Award-winning artist and author Cher Threinen-Pendarvis shares her own drawings and paintings with the readers, sharing her creative thought processes and composition design secrets that she uses in her own work. In this gorgeous, large format, full-color book, Cher takes readers step-by-step through a variety of projects designed to improve their drawing, composition, and conceptual thought processes while exploring different uses of the many brushes available in Painter and Photoshop. Along the way, Cher shows readers how to set up a pressure-sensitive tablet and stylus; use mark-making tools in Photoshop and Painter; create tonal, gestural, and contour drawings with a pressure-sensitive tablet and stylus; incorporate scanned artwork into digital paintings; use photos as a reference for the illustrations; make creative use of color and ideas for composition design; translate traditional color theory to digital color tools; simulate canvas and paper; create mixed media; and more. All the concepts, processes, and projects in this book can be applied to readers' own drawings and paintings, and the lessons and examples demonstrated in this book are designed to work with the most current versions of Painter and Photoshop, as well as most earlier versions of the software. In addition, readers will find brushes, textures, images and other goodies on the book’s companion Web site that they can use as they work through the projects in the book.

Photoshop and Painter Artist Tablet.......2007-09-05
The Photoshop and Painter Artist Tablet Book: Creative Techniques in Digital Painting
While I was not overly impressed with the art illustrations in this book I am very impressed with instruction. It explains the A-Z's of setting up your computer for Digital Artwork for both original art and photos. This includes setting up your pallates, naming/saving files, backup, etc.
Would recommend for newbies and experienced alike.
Painters Book.......2007-06-27
This book is a great guide to using the painters tablet with photoshop software. Very good reference.
A good book if you know Painter already.......2007-05-07
This is a small book that I bought in a bundle with my Wacom Tablet. The book is pretty good about showing you how to paint in Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop, but you need to already know the software. There is no real "introduction" to the software. The book just assumes that you already know how to choose brushes and such, and takes you right into the painting methods. I like the book, but I don't recommend it to anyone who doesn't already know a bit about Corel Painter or Photoshop.
High Recommendation from a Digital Artist.......2007-02-15
One of the most valuable things about, "The Photoshop and Painter Artist Tablet Book" is that Cher gives us a variety of projects we can do that will help us master digital painting.
Not only are we guided through how to use a graphics tablet and stylus in combination with Photoshop and Painter software; but through some of the basics of drawing and composition, as well. Plus, each project is accompanied by step-by-step examples that are refreshingly original and clear.
So, whether someone is new to the medium or has a decade of experience with digital painting like I do, Cher provides projects we can all learn from. Because of that, this book is a welcomed addition to my creative library and one that I highly recommend.
Great for Beginners.......2007-01-18
I was disappointed in the book cause its more oriented for beginners, i was hoping to learn new techniques as i am more toward advanced. But the book itself is great for beginners and made a great gift for a friend of mine.

good intro, one flaw.......2007-07-11
good, basic intro to a professional tool. while it might not "be for beginners" as some have said, neither is after effects. the one problem i have with the book is that several of the lessons require effects that only come bundled with the Pro edition of AE7. given that the title of the book does not mention Pro, the authors should probably have taken more care to avoid using features limited to the Pro edition.
Average Tutorial from Adobe.......2007-04-05
Actually this is about what I expected from Adobe. It's a basic instruction book for After Effects 7 that shows a beginner some of the mechanics of the program. The lessons pull the reader through the steps needed to produce the required results without much explanation.
As another reviewer noted, the examples aren't that good. Watching the sample movies before doing the lessons, you find yourself saying "And why would I want to produce something like that?" Or maybe "It takes over an hour just for that 10 second cheezy cartoon?"
After Effects is an extremely powerful program that's used by many professionals in countless video applications. Watch any TV program and you'll surely see the results of what After Effects can do. Much additional instruction beyond this official training book from Adobe, that you have to pay extra for, is obviously required to get the most out of After Effects.
I just got 2 more books,"After Effects" by Fahs & Weinman and "Creative After Effects" by Taylor. I'll see how they compare with Adobe's book.
Update: After reading "Creative After Effects" by Angie Taylor, this Adobe Classroom in a Book looks like a Pulitzer prize winner in comparison. Don't even think about wasting your time on Taylor's so-called "book".
A must-have if you own After Effects!!!!.......2007-04-01
I sat for a solid week trying to make sense out of the confusing owner's manual for After Effects, and never got anywhere. After just the first "lesson" in this book, I already knew my way around in AE smoothly, and then with each lesson, I was accelerating rapidly with knowledge. The official AE owner's manual will definitely be tossed into a dark corner for a long time.... this Classroom In A Book should be listed as a manditory requirement for learning how to use AE. It is very easy to understand and takes you through some very cool steps to help you create videos like the pros. Without this book, I would still have no clue as to how to function inside AE.....If you want to learn how to use AE in a flash, then you HAVE to buy this book!!!!! I recommend it 100%!!!!!
Good~.......2007-03-19

Life Saver.......2007-03-16
I had a project that I needed to start and finish in a couple of weeks. I had trouble learning it until I received this book. Very helpful. My only issue is with DHL. I paid for 24 hour service and got it in about four work days.

Had to look online for what I wanted to do.......2007-08-15
I thought this would be a good book to learn Photoshop with because it came from the software maker. Unfortuately this was not the case. By following the book's instructions, I was not able to add a simple border to an image. I ended up doing a Google search from which I found the instructions on an online forum. As it turned out the Adobe book had left out a step of how to select the image. (You can't just click on the image) So, as a result of this missing step, the menu item I needed was grayed out so I couldn't add the border. Also, the pictures in the book are not in color, they are black & white only. This makes it difficult to figure out which tool bar icon they are trying to get you to go to.
I just bought another Photoshop book because this one is useless.
Great Book, Easy To Use.......2007-05-13

Adobe Photosop Cs.......2007-03-09
The book and CD arrived in a very short time in excellent condition. I am very pleased with it thank you.
Don't Buy It Without the CD.......2007-03-02
If you buy used, be sure the CD is included as it is essential to following the lessons. I am ordering a second copy, new, so I will have the CD.
Good, but photos are weak.......2006-11-29
I read this book here in Brazil.I'm an agronomist(jobless) here in Brazil and I like to read books.
I read this book translated to the portuguese. This book is great in size. The lessons are good. The main problem of this book are the photos.Almost all of them are B&W.This book is good, but the photos are weak.

Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 Classroom in a Book.......2007-09-29
Individual lessons walk you thru how to use Elements. Tell you various ways to use the features of the product. Step by step instructions are very helpful.
Photoshop Elements - Classroom in a Book.......2007-09-24
A lot of information but needs to be more fully defined. Difficult for a "beginner" to use. Being new to Adobe Photoshop I found the book to not explain steps thoroughly.
A worthwhile investment when learning Photoshop Elements.......2007-09-08
This book is well organized and easy to follow. You use the files on the CD that comes with the book to do the lessons. All of the lessons demonstrate principles of working with PSE and are not difficult to follow. The book also anticipates and points out what you can do wrong, so is helpful in that regard also. I also have worked with Photoshop Elements, The Missing Manual Photoshop Elements 5: The Missing Manualwhich is much more comprehensive but takes a lot longer to work through. You may want to own both books eventually, but this one is a good start since you actually get to complete processes right away, such as touching up old photos, that come in handy whether or not you have learned everything that the program can do. If you are struggling with teaching yourself PSE, give this book a try.
Clasroom in a book.......2007-09-04
I find this easy to learn rom, but it does take me a lot of time.
Also, the tutorials online from Adobe Photoshop are brief overviews, but a good companion piece,
Easy to follow lessons .......2007-05-08
Adobe's PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 5.0: CLASSROOM IN A BOOK is billed as the 'fastest, easiest way to learn Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0', and as such it's a fine classroom or home study pick. The title comes from the notable series of software training workbooks, and ELEMENTS 5.0 delivers what it promises; eleven quick lessons covering all the basics, packed with tips and real-world applications and techniques. Color screen shots are a big hit, here, making it easy to follow lessons based on real screen samples.

Photoshop CS3 for Photographers.......2007-09-29
This book is very big in size and has ample amount of information for the user. We are using it in our Photography class for Photoshop training but there is a CD that anyone could use without a class.
Comprehesive and Informative.......2007-09-26
This is not for beginner. Mainly it aims at the seasoned PS users. I have owned Mr. Evening book since CS2 and found it very useful as a reference materials. The shortcuts and tricks are embedded in the text; as a result, you have to really read the book to garner the info. There are other books which give you tips & tricks. Just consider this book is a reference material.

Better than an owners manual.......2007-08-13
This book is better than an owners manual for cs2, taking you through step by step instructions, if you already know something just skip that section, if you don't then it works, and it's easy to understand. The pages are color coded, great index and it has lots of picture examples.
must-have for photographers.......2007-05-30
i would recommend this book to anyone who is a photographer or thinking about taking up photography as a hobby. it's an amazing book and has very nice tutorials. i've been using it for about a year now. the price is very nice too.
Lots Of "Eureka" Moments Here.......2007-05-29
I've taken an abbreviated Photoshop class only to leave with more questions than answers. Fortunately, our teacher appreciated this fact and recommended this book to all the photographers in her class. I have not been disappointed except for lacking the time to work my way through this massive tome. Every time I open this book I discover another wonderful timesaver or neat trick to improve my photographs.
As good as it gets.......2007-05-14
Even more than I could expect! This book is intended to teach digital photography with Photoshop to make your photos get a new level that you could never imagine before. But if you want to learn the camera or tips to make your photos better without using your computer this is not what your need. One plus is file format explanations. And if you want to get muscle, this book is perfect for you too; because it's made with the best paper I saw in a book with photo quality in all pages the weight is a ton.
Good formatting.......2007-04-10
Besides being a good book about CS2 I really like the color coded chapter edge tabs. Frequently, it is the little things that make a difference.

Great for college requirements.......2007-04-24
Unfortunately, I can't give a personal recommendation as to content, but this is required for our daughter's BS degree in Art. What a great way to purchase college texts and save money on the exorbitant cost of required college materials!
Helpful Tool.......2007-03-15
If your learning design. This book will get you started. Great for beginners. Not for advanced users.
"Help" is a better Resource.......2007-03-01
The book covers two or three not-too-deep projects through photoshop/illustrator/indesign, etc., but it's a little like having someone hold your hand through the woods. Anyone can pick up these basics, the same concepts, as soon as they start a project using the Creative Suite modules -- Adobe provides excellent "Help" resources, and there are all kinds of tips and support out there from online searches/blogs. Save your $30+ and pick up a few magazines on the subject.
Adobe Classroom Series.......2007-01-24
I have used the Classroom in a Book to learn Photoshop in the past. I really enjoy these lessons. I haven't started using the Creative Suite lessons yet but after browsing through the book expect the lesson to be fun to learn.
