Book Description
The greatest automobile racing team in the world.
Inside Ferrari is an exclusive and intimate view inside Formula l's most successful, most alluring and most secretive professional racing teams. This book provides a rare glimpse into the world famous Ferrari factory, inside the Ferrari garage and inside the Ferrari test track, capturing what it takes to be one of the world's great sports teams.
The camera division of the Olympus Corporation Camera Company, a sponsor of the Ferrari Formula 1 team, commissioned Jon Nicholson to go behind the scenes at Ferrari and take exclusive photographs of its Fl Team at work -- in preparation for races, and during races. Working as a team, Nicholson and racing journalist Maurice Hamilton created a candid profile that is packed with exciting stories and on-the-spot action photographs of behind-the-scenes workers and such internationally famous drivers as Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello. Here are (almost) all the secrets involving:
- The factory
- The testing
- The cars
- The drivers
- Racing
- The Ferrari racing family.
No one else has ever been given such access to Ferrari, and this book will be a delight for millions of Formula 1 racing fans.
Customer Reviews:
Ferrari fans - You will want to buy this book.......2007-01-10
I bought this book for my dad for Christmas. We are huge Ferrari fans and it's great to have a book on Ferrari that has some authenticity... there are stax of book on Ferrari, the cars, the F1 team and so on, but few of them have any real ties to the factory.
This is where this book is different. The foreword is by Jean Todt, the photographer is a hugely respected F1 photographer and the guy who wrote the bits between the photos is one of the most successful F1 writers around - a great recipe!
The authors were given exclusive access to Ferrari. Anyone who has been to the factory will know how secretive and restricted it is for visitors and appreciate seeing this hidden side of Ferrari.
If you are a Ferrari fan, you will want to add this one to your collection!
Outstanding addition to your Ferrari collection.......2007-01-08
I had read about this book several months back, and, having followed Ferrari Formula 1 racing since the early 1970s, I had to have it. The photography is excellent, although most of the pictures are behind the scenes at Maranello or at various racing circuits around the world. The cars and the crews definitely take frontstage here, with the drivers being mentioned secondarily.
The author and photographer were given access to the team during the time that Rubens Barrichello was Michael Schumacher's teammate. This was definitely the modern golden age of Ferrari, with 5 straight driver's championships for Schumacher. The insider information is nice, but if you really follow Formula 1 you have probably heard much of this before.
What I liked best was the section featuring the tour of Enzo Ferrari's old office, the comparison of the racing and road car divisions of the factory, and the details of both Maranello and Fiorano, the two test tracks that Ferrari owns. The fact that the team can take the cars out, run full racing lengths daily, wet down the track as needed to test tires, etc. shows how important racing is to the workers that have taken Ferrari to the pinnacle of the pinnacle of motorsport.
At the price, this book is a steal. Stop reading and buy it!

The next best thing to an actual visit.......2006-09-23
I too have had the privilege of visiting Mr. Metz's garage-cum-museum, which is only a half hour's drive from here. If you can't get to see his collection first hand, this is the next best thing.
fascinating reading and a fascinating museum.......2002-06-28
this book is an excellent pictorial trip through one of the world's finest collections of bicycles and related items. i have actually been to the Metz Bicycle Museum in Freehold, New Jersey and have had a personalized tour by David Metz, the owner of the museum which is the basis for this book. this book is a very good introduction to the history of bicycles and the photograpy is excellent. however, on an actual tour of the museum you get some of the most interesting stories first hand from David Metz. this 87 year young collector is only too happy to share his knowledge of bicycles with any visitor to his museum. the book and a trip to the museum if at all possible will both be something to remember

IF A CAR CAN BE SEXY ..THIS IS IT.......2006-10-13
Exhaustively chronicled and well presented, this is the benchmark for books on the icon Ferrari. This car is and always has been a piece of art, the cars are beautifully created and the most stylish. The perfect car for the continental Italian. Ferrari is like everything italian, it just get's better with age. If you have any interest whatsoever in Ferrari, then i highly recommend this book, the images alone are worth the purchase, the book looks like it was designed by Ferrari.
History of World Supercar Industry.......2001-04-12
Antonio Ghini's book contains whatever lies below the "Prancing Horse" badge, for models produced in the 50 years period; moreover, it helps to understand and find answers of today's automotive & motorsports technologies' innovational questions which are solved decades before. The online version of the book is available at CuoreSPORTIVO ICEO Web Site with pictures.
Awesome Official Account of Racing History.......2001-02-15
This is the true story - from Enzo's days as an Alfa Romeo engineer and race mechanic, up to his death...and beyond. It's refreshing to find the story so well summed up - while it's not an unbiased account, it's exactly what you'd expect from the folks who make some of the most amazing machines on the face of this earth. What an awesome story, and great pictures to boot!
Balanced book.......2000-12-10
This book accomplish quite properly it mission. To give us a shallow look at the first 50 years of the make. Good and some very rare pictures, diagrams explaining technical solutions and good but condensed text. A must.
The Racing Bible.......2000-06-01
If you are interested in a broad sweep of Ferrari racing history, this is the book. If you are interested in Ferrari road cars, buy "Ferrari" by Hartmut Lehbrink instead. This is an excellent book, large and heavy with great color pictures and cut-aways. It does gloss over the road cars and has great summary color thumbnails of all Ferrari's (racing and road)in the back. A worthy addition to any Ferrari library.

Eye Candy For The Trailer Park Crowd.......2003-04-27
This book brings together a wonderful collection of visual images of travel trailers from the late 1920s through the 1950s. The images come from vintage photographs, publicity brochures, and other publications. A majority of the materials come from the collections of the University of Southern California, the Auto Club of Southern California, and Vintage Vacations (a California travel trailer restoration company). The quality of the image reproduction is excellent making this book a genuine feast for the eyes.
Although subtitled "A Visual History Of Mobile America," the majority of pictures are from California with the rest of the country only sketchily represented if at all. Florida is the only other state to have more than one or two pictures included.
The book has eight chapters. Each begins with one page of text consisting of three paragraphs. The rest of the chapters are illustrations with captions and quotes. The first chapter "Motor Camping" has some of the earliest photos and portrays the beginnings of the travel trailer craze. The second chapter "Selling The dream" contains a collection of illustrations from brochures and advertisements. "Wish You Were Here," the third chapter, is a collection of postcards both humorous and illustrative. The fourth chapter "Trailer Shows" contains pictures from various California trailer shows. Pictures of the latest trailer designs are often enhanced by including attractive female models. "Take A Look Inside" is the next chapter which portrays the interior furnishings of travel trailers. Again attractive female models often enhance the photos. "I've Got This Idea" is a chapter that captures some of the more inventive and original travel trailer designs. A whole chapter is devoted to "Trailer Logos." It was in this chapter that I found the only reference to my 1948 trailer made in Alma, Michigan.
The book ends with a chapter on "Teardrops," compact trailers with outdoor kitchens built into a back hatch. A one page bibliography provides both current and historic books and articles for further reading. A joyful coffee table book, light on text, but very rich on illustrations, that is eye candy for the trailer park crowd.
My new favorite book!.......2002-09-04
I am so happy that there is finally a book about this part of American pop culture that has been largely ignored! I had no idea that so many amazing pictures have survived all these years. The graphics are wonderful and I love all of the logos. Great book.
Saw the review in TIME Magazine, ran out & got it..........2002-08-22
It really is a great little book. The endless pictures are the selling point as I could (and have) look at them again & again!
If you like trailers, or 50's Americana Camp this is a great book.
Finally! What a great book!.......2002-07-26
Colorful, instructive and full of eye candy. It's about time someone published a book for those of us who love vintage travel trailers and just plain Americana. This book will live on the very top of my coffee table library.

Book Description
Mikael Jansson photographs Formula 1: cars, drivers, mechanics, race tracks, pit lanes and spectators. Behind the colorful surface, the glistening bodywork, the noisy engines and the smell of burning rubber lies a fundamental concern with power, both on the track and on the page. Jansson, who was once Richard Avedon's assistant, has been one of the most respected photographers in the fashion world for some 20 years, and his work has been included in museum and gallery shows around the world, as well as in Italian, American, French, British and Japanese Vogue, among many other magazines. Every photo in Speed of Life--from passing cars to the reflections on drivers' visors, from the dust of the opening lap to the rubber particles flying from deteriorating tires at the end of the race--brims with movement and action.

Book Description
A beautiful and indispensable guide to wooden power boats by America's preeminent photographer of wooden boats. This small, elegant book of the most gorgeous wooden powerboats in the world is divided into five categories-launches, runabouts and racers, power cruisers, motor yachts, and work boats. Among the magnificent vessels included are Kittywake, a 100-year-old British steam launch, and Jessica, a legendary 75-foot motor yacht built in 1930 whose early years were spent as a fast commute to New York City through Long Island Sound. Also presented here are converted shrimp boats, tugboats, gold cup racers, and the stunning Principia, a gleaming 96-foot power yacht and favorite among enthusiasts.
Customer Reviews:
Pretty pics, but NOT a guide.......2007-09-10
One can tell that the pictures were beautifully done, but there is only one pic per boat and sometimes did not show the best side of the vessel...the Chris "barrel back" had the rear covered by spray ! A brief paragraph with year, builder/ designer, length and beam was about it on the description. Not exhaustive, not very informative. A minature coffee table book of a very few wooden powerboats. Pics; 5 stars, organization; 5 stars, information/ completeness; 2 stars.
This is the Sears Catalog of Wood Boat Types.......2000-09-06
There are just a few facts and a paragraph of text for each boat on a single page, but cruise thru the chapters to select the next type of boat you, as a woodie fan, wants to move up to. I like the 30's commuters and the runabouts (I own a 1941 Chris) so this book sits in the living room and gets reviewed periodically when time permits. The ultimate woodie wishlist book. Vance Jochim, webmaster for www.coolwoodies.com - homeport for two ACBS chapters.
Beautiful small book, but misleading title, not a guide.......1998-11-04
Excellent book and beautiful photography, but this is not a guide to help you find a particular model or type, it is a composite of various photographs (beautiful) of individual owner boats categorized by style and type. Great book, but if you are looking for a guide book, this is not it.
Customer Reviews:
Jeff Gordon.......2000-06-20
This is a beautiful book for fans of NASCAR and esp. fans of Jeff Gordon. It is well written and the photography is very outstanding. It would be a great addition to any library.
A great book for people who dont know much about Jeff Gordon.......1999-10-10
It is not a large book by any means, but it does roughly go over Jeff Gordons racing career, starting from the age of five up until his 1998 Winston Cup Championship. It's great for people who have little knowledge about Jeff's life on and off the track, and it's also a fine book for people who like full color photos. If you live in an area like I do where Nascar is not really considered a sport and you have heard of the name Jeff Gordon, and you would like to know more about him, try this book.

Book Description
Edited by Caitlin Fitzgerald and Alexandra Rowley. Essay by Alexandra Rowley. Introduction by Robert Fulton Jr.
In 1932, Robert Fulton Jr. -- inventor, sculptor, architect, writer, film maker, pilot and explorer -- undertook and filmed an 18 month motorcycle voyage around the world. Descendant of the inventor of the steam ship, Fulton has travel and intrepid adventure in his blood, and has only recently been acknowledged for his many creative endeavors, including his work in photography and film. In 1932, following a year of architectural studies in Vienna, young Fulton set off on a modified Douglas twin-cylander motorcycle to film the architectural wonders of the world, but soon came to realize that he was interested in filming people as well as places. Fulton credits this journey with shaping his life, his attitudes, his curiosity, his respect for other cultures and for nature, his understanding of solitude and interconnectedness. The Long Journey Home chronicles the 18 month voyage from London, through Europe, the Middle East, India and Asia, with stills from the original 35mm nitrate film Fulton shot along the way. His beautifully composed images express the wonder of a young man realizing the world for the first time, and reveal all the attendant felicity and tribulation he experienced.
Customer Reviews:
What a book!.......2000-09-01
Very thoughtful and interesting book. Masterfully edited. It's a MUST BUY.
a peregrination for the simple wayfarer.......2000-06-25
this account of mr. fulton's journey across the world fed me with images of profound beauty, simple and fleeting figures, and visual humility. i really enjoyed the simplicity of the book's layout and architecture -- there was no need for more text; the photographs supplied the reader with its own 'blind' footnotes. i liked the fact that the book captured how travel can be simple, at times clumsy, and incredibly poignant. this is a beautiful book.
Nice, but could have been better.......2000-06-17
To have a book of "round the world trip 1933" must be great? Well unfortuanetly one gets the feeling this book could have been better. More pictures, as Fulton was a very talented photographer in his days. Some countries are hardly represented: Japan 2 pictures, France 1, Java 1. It wouldn't have hurt to include more photographs, as hardly any text is included. I felt the book is not really giving a deep insight in his travels / experiences he had in the 1930's.
Book Description
Tour the tracks of the early sixties where the five Grand Sports made history. Drivers Dick Thompson, Roger Penske, A.J. Foyt, and others are captured in classic shots from Sebring, Nassau, Watkins Glen, Daytona, and Road America. See Shelby's initial reaction to the Grand Sport, plus nearly 300 photos of the cars, engines, chassis, drivers, and action at the track.
Customer Reviews:
Almost like they never existed........2005-03-21
Good book, but not great. Unfortunately, it is the only pice of writing on these 5 legendary cars that GM engineers built and raced in "secret". Lots of photos you won't find elsewhere, and it is the only place the incredible story of these cars is recorded. How funny that GM marketing "commemorated" (with the 1996 'vette) these cars, which they did not support, and actually axed when they found out about them. This story just goes to show what a driven group of individuals at GM were able to achieve with passion, means, and hard work - they were able to defeat the Ford racing machine and the legendary Cobras!
